The Vanguard Action Squad, Plus Their Affiliates and Enablers
...
Out of context, this kinda looks like they're all mocking All Might's victory pose.
Twice be like, “Who farted! It was me!”
...
What’s funny about this is when I used the reference from the original Death Parade opening…
…I didn’t realize they were all crammed in the elevator going to Hell. (Or the Void, you know what I mean.)

I'm trying so hard not to get sucked into this as my new favorite thing. Found a couple of good clips from the Dabi/Shoto fight on Youtube. The first one has the awkward sub translation, and I like the dub translation better, especially the part where they change 'You're like the congealed broth of calamity!' to '-And you walked among them, even though you are a child of calamity!'. (Makes more sense)
Shoto deserves a moment of self-pitying teenage angst dealing with this shit. -Like imagine him coming out with, "I didn't ask to be born! I didn't ask to have you feeling a constant sense of self-rejection looking at me like I'm your replacement! I work so hard to be that close to effing perfect, and yet you have to find reasons to call me dirty and shameless!"
Then there's the bite where Shoto tells Dabi he has the kind of powers that can beat him (not true. It ended up being a whole family effort at the end). Dabi comes back with how Shoto had it all -ideal body, fire resistance, training- but he was a spoiled brat who didn't live up to his full potential. Then they changed half-baked 'doll' to 'puppet' in the dub. Calling someone a puppet is more of a burn.
Imagine Shoto saying, "Give me a minute! I'm sixteen! GAWD! I had to grow up hearing it from Dad, and now I have to hear it from my older brother while he's trying to murder me! Then you had the nerve to call me dirty and shameless!"
(Nobody wants to be shamed constantly. Nobody wants to be thought of as a puppet who lets people jerk them around).
Then someone posted a video of the end of the fight where Shoto explains he isn't a puppet. He treats Dabi with a lot of depth and decency for someone his age, even as he defeats him. Dabi makes the comment about the two of them being on parallel tracks whose paths will never meet, and Shoto replies, "Our paths will cross; I'll force them to.."
It's like he understands that Dabi is somewhat the victim even if he did unspeakably evil things, and he's trying to say that someday when the sting of having Dabi try to kill him subsides, maybe then they can forge a familial connection like normal people. (Later he proves it by asking him what his favorite food was as a gesture of kindness, or because he's sincerely trying to connect with him).
youtube
Shoto froze the entire city, but he has his provisional license, so it's all good.

so i got a super old RME interface early this year for work because it had enough ins and outs and was not USB, these three things were important for reasons, anyway turns out every output on an RME interface is a mixer and you can loop all the inputs back to an input without physically connecting any cable, so now what i do is route my computer's playback to a channel i never use, one of the s/pdif or ADAT channels, and i open up something to record and i use that channel as an input so that way i can go on listening to whatever the fuck on my computer while also recording it at the same damn time (at the same damn time?) at the same damn time! and most recently used this to make a cassette mixtape for a friend, from a whole bunch of different sources.
HOLD THE LINE!! KEEP PUSHING!!!!!

“You done for the day?”
“You bet.” She looked at him slyly. “Hey, since I let you and your vigilante friends off the hook the other day, I think you owe me dinner.”
“I’m unemployed and don’t mention to my father how you like to party after hours. You buy me dinner.”
“Oh, like you’ve never gone drinking and made questionable choices.”
“Yeah, but my dad already knows that about me," Touya frowned. "I make it a point that he knows that about me.”
“Fine, fine, we’ll compromise," said Moe. "We’ll stop at an izakaya quick, I’ll pay for the food, but you get the alcohol because between the two of us, only you can afford the good stuff on a whim. Top shelf, don't be cheap.”
"And everyone walks away from this extortion with good feelings."
...
I haven't written very much with them in Ambush Sim, but Touya has an interesting relationship with his father's sidekicks. Half of them condemn him for being the family problem child, and the other half actually know the full story, and Touya's attitude toward the second half is 'low-key resentment they still work for his father but also recognizes resigning from working with the No. 2 Hero is objectively a bad career move.' He's actually on better terms with the younger sidekicks. It's the older ones who were aware of Rei's abuse when it was still going on he really can't stand.
As a result, Touya, Burnin', Onima, and Kido are on a 'we don't talk about Endeavor' basis.
Kido: So, uh...listen, about us working for your dad--
Touya: *already pouring the alcohol* Are we gonna sit here and bitch about work or are we gonna get hammered?

Patti Labelle's solo career made us forget about the fact she was a part of a successful group before that. Nonetheless, she did return to Labelle much later, though she already tested a possibility of a reunion on her Burnin'. Sure, there were only two tracks that she worked with Mrs. Hendryx and Mrs. Dash on that LP, which does fit, because the disc does resemble a typical 90's album of a veteran superstar, i.e. there is just too much of everything. While one can do interesting stuff with that notion, Mrs. Labelle sadly doesn't do that. However, she could've done a reunion of her old band then, since their tunes might be two of the more intriguing ones here. Then again, she probably sensed the time wasn't right that during that time.
