sollux & terezi on beforus are in the business of ruining lives (for fun and profit)

ive been in a beforus mood lately so im thinking abt what the trolls lives could have been like.

sollux and terezi are white collar criminals. i wanted to give her the seer curse of Seeing Things even though she isn't a player, so she utilizes her infinite outcome matrix analysis abilities to forsee tragedies specifically caused by negligence. there was definitely a point in her childhood where she attempted to be a mothmanesque figure, warning potential innocents of upcoming events and terrorizing the people responsible for totally preventable misfortune.

but then she grew up and realized that the people who were responsible for shoddy architecture, massive layoffs, and general societal injustices didn't have a conscience to torment. They were gaming the system for money $$$ and you had to hit them where it hurts. she used her proclivity for predicting small-scale catastrophes to predict how said ensuing scandals would affect the stocks for the entities involved. you can't make the executive heads feel bad about dropping 30% of their staff to feed their own salaries, but you can definitely manipulate the market and ruin their public perception until people are papering their hives with the company currency

sollux, who worked the BSE as their best surveillance analyst, clocked terezi as a front runner when she showed up out of absolutely nowhere and scored huge profits after two consecutive PR disasters led to the bankruptcy of like 8 corps and heavy damage to their subsidiaries. it was kind of impressive, but he had a job to do yaknow? terezi, who was immediately on the run from the beforus finance cops and had to be sneakier and meaner with her manipulation, and sollux became completely obsessed with this criminal mastermind who was VERY easy to track. she was always behind the scenes in every major upset but sloppy about it. he probably should have turned her over to the authorities the second he knew her location. but, let's be honest, can you resist a pyrope on a mission?

after a very tumultuous rivalry that swung red and black like a centrifuge they eventually join forces because it turns out terezi doesn't have any inside info. she's just acting on VERY good hunches. there's honestly not really anything illegal she's doing PERSAY. and then sollux joins the efforts and uses his forensic experience to make her a lot harder to track, as well as collecting sensitive info and facilitating scandals that will rock the bottom line of anyone they consider an enemy. terezi is very into the networking part of it, amassing a silent army of business associates who can do the dirty work for them, either through bribery or blackmail. she knows how to get people to do what she wants >:] it's a bit morally dubious but it's all for the sake of the people.

lots of fun moments with these two, like when sollux brainstorms a series of possible connections that could insinuate that a group of people have been too careless in their various embezzlement schemez and theres a big tower of cards begging to be toppled. or when terezi comes to a sudden realisation that a potential whistleblower's nerve is about to run out and they've gotta act NOW if they want to benefit from the fallout.

these two are always hiding from the 9+ cumulative life sentences they've accrued and the financial ruin theyve rained on corporate beforus. as a result, they pretty much only have each other, and maybe a handful of their most trusted affiliates. kind of hard to nourish any type of relationship when the people close to you are in danger of being implicated in your many crimes and all of your enemies are incredibly wealthy, powerful, and influential. i imagine their luck runs out one day and they're disappeared from society without a trace.

Brazil negotiates Turkish market access for beef exports

Brazil is in final negotiations with Turkish authorities to secure access to Turkey’s market for Brazilian beef. Initially, Brazil is expected to agree to a reduced quota of 4,000 to 5,000 tonnes with zero tariff and the requirement for sanitary tests on the cargo, according to sources familiar with the matter.

This strategy aims to gain an initial foothold in Turkey, where beef prices have soared. In 2023, beef prices in Turkey surged by 200%, leading to a 30% reduction in consumption as consumers shifted to chicken.

Recent talks have finalized technical and sanitary requirements for the deal. Turkish authorities are mandating testing for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as mad cow disease, despite Brazil being classified as a country with “negligible risk” for the disease by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

Brazilian officials have accepted this condition as part of their strategy to finalize market access and pursue future expansion. Initial proposals for a 10,000-tonne quota were halved during negotiations.

The share price of Elcid Investments started off only at ₹3.21. However, shortly after being relisted on the BSE on October 29, 2024, its share value increased to 225,000 rupees before closing 5% up at 236,250 rupees. Not only did this increase boost the profile of Elcid Investments, but it also made it the highest priced share in India, overtaking MRF Ltd that had its shares trading at 122,576.50 rupees on that day.

What is Elcid Investments and who owns it?

Elcid Investments is an NBFC incorporated with the Reserve Bank of India that is engaged in the business of investing in equities, bonds, mutual funds and other related securities. The business is also parent to two firms, Suptaswar Investments & Trading Company Limited and Murahar Investments & Trading Company Limited. Each of these subsidiaries are also registered with RBI as NBFCs.

75% of the Mumbai based non banking finance company Elcid is owned by the owners of Asian Paints whereas Hydra Trading and 3 A Capital Services owns 9.04% and 3.34% of the company respectively.

Business Overview

Excluding the managing director, only three people remained in the full employment category with the firm. In financial Year 24 which is the year in which Elcid Investments company’s net profits climbed by 139 % to 176 crores rupees.

The balked share capital rose in its sales more than two-folds to 236 crores in the year under review. There were only 200,000 shares issued and outstanding at the end of September 2024, 75 percent of which are promoters. There were 241 traded stocks at the centre(s) BSE on Tuesday against the average volume of 100 days of five shares.

What made the price of shares for Elcid Investments outrun other stocks?

The company's re-list on the BSE on 29 October 2024 raised the stock price which led the shareholders to immense profit. The company's capital now stands at rupees 4725 crores.

There was no delay in the selling of that particular share which was later followed up by a high frequency of buying due to mistakes from shareholders.

In June, the market regulator, Sebi, advised stock exchanges to conduct special call options for a few of the investment holding companies or holdco, whose shares are being offered at an extreme discount to the book value of the stocks.

It also issued a framework allowing some of the holding companies to bid for such price discovery. Holding companies hold interests in other assets including shares of listed companies without running any business activity on their own.

Consequently, the first of such call options developed on October 28 to discover prices and in two sessions, elcid shares increased Rs 236246.47.

What’s more puzzling is the fact that shares of Elcid stock were available at only Rs 3.53 till last week.

The book value of the stock was about Rs 5,84225 as at the end of March 2024, the last week price of Rs 3.53 was that of a Friday, which is the reason for the spike in the price. Even with this sudden spike, the company's book value has already been 2.5 times more than the Tuesday price of 236,250.

On Tuesday, Elcid investments closed shares at Rs 2, 32, 250 each, whereas shares in MRF were at Rs 1, 22, 577.

Another important reason for its high price is due to the ownership of Elcid Investments, which is around 8,500 crores and cited as owning more than 2,83,13,860 equity shares or a 2.95% stake in Asian Paints Ltd.

India’s Most Expensive Stocks

Other than Elcid Investments, there are just 30 companies in India whose shares trade more than Rs10,000 apiece. Some stocks that stand out in this group include MRF, Page Industries, Honeywell Automation India, Shree Cement, 3M India, Abbott India, Nestle India, Bosch,Procter & Gamble Hygiene, and Lakshmi Machine Works. Investors engage with these stocks because they have a trustworthy return on investment and have proven to be sound investments that perform well over the long term.

Please can you explain the BSE thing? I know loads of people who give blood (I can't myself for actual medical reasons) who were in the UK during the BSE outbreak. Surely that would rule out more people over like 30

vCJD (which is what it's called in humans) can lay dormant for decades after exposure so in fact yes it SHOULD rule out all of those people

But if you were in the UK at any point during the BSE outbreak and consumed any beef or dairy products in that time? There is a small (237 in 1 million if i recall correctly) chance that your brain is just gonna melt at any point

The reason it's taken so seriously is a) it isn't really testable for in blood. not in a screening sort of test in any case and b) vCJD - or any prion disease really - is a fucking nasty way to die. And die you certainly will. The prognosis is "always fatal" and it's also untreatable so all that can be done is making you comfortable for the remaining year or so of your life once symptoms develop

Obv in the UK we can't rule out "everyone who was alive in the 80s and 90s" because that is still the majority of our adult population but like. Everyone else can

This is the first song by Blake that she reacted to, so this is the first time she heard him sing, found out what his voice sounded like. She mentions, after it starts, that she only knew of him as a personality and had no idea what his voice sounded like. However, she said that she did meet him and Gwen in January 2020 when she was working on a project (she wouldn't say) and said that they both were really nice.

Qatar lifts embargo on Brazilian beef

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock informed this Tuesday (30) Qatar has normalized its beef trade with Brazil after restrictions were imposed due to an atypical case of BSE.

The government of Qatar lifted the ban on beef imports from Brazil, which had been imposed due to an isolated case of atypical Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) reported in the state of Pará. “The Brazilian government was pleased to receive the announcement yesterday, May 29, of the end of restrictions on Brazilian beef imposed by Qatar,” said the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in a statement.

The Brazilian government informed this announcement adds to the recent reopening of other markets due to the same situation, such as Tunisia, Palestine, and Russia, and represents the full normalization of beef trade between Brazil and Qatar. The Gulf country restricted purchases on March 5 this year, including Brazil on the list of precautionary measures, which subjected its exports to constraints. Last year, Brazil exported 6,000 tonnes of beef to Qatar, obtaining USD 36.9 million in revenue.

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, unlike the classic form of the illness, also known as “mad cow disease,” the atypical form occurs naturally and spontaneously in the cattle herd, does not pose a risk to public health, nor does justify import restrictions, according to the rules of the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).

What Are The Indices In The Stock Market?

How to Calculate SENSEX

The SENSEX has adopted the market capitalization weighted system, which assigns weights to companies depending on their size. The weight increases as the size increases.

It is now believed that the overall market share was 100 points when the index was created. This displays the percentage change in a logical manner. So, if the market capitalization rises by 10%, the index rises by 10% as well, from 9 to 10.

Assume there is only one stock on the market. Assume that the stock is now trading at 200 and that its fundamental value is 100. If the stock is worth 260 tomorrow, it has increased by 30%. As a result, the index will rise 30 points from 100 to 130. If the stock price falls from 260 to 208, the loss is 20%. The SENSEX will be revised from 130 to 104 to reflect the decline.
