MCU Defenders Update

In a perfect world we would be getting Luke Cage Season 3 where he and Jess are expecting beautiful little baby Danielle Cage. In an even more perfect world Loki didn’t die in Infinity War AND all our Marvel Television heroes were given portals to join the final fight against Thanos in Endgame. But this is not the case and while I can headcanon that Misty Knight became a judge and Benjamin Poindexter with some memory issues was placed under her watch and is working as her DA (in the CBS show All Rise) the hope of the Marvel Netflix casts returning in whole is highly unlikely. And yet there is some news...

Daredevil: If you haven’t seen that brilliant pic of Charlie and Tom swapping super suits on Halloween then now behold! The two great friends are currently in a Broadway production called Betrayal but their offstage friendship can be compared to reports on Marvel Studios’s thoughts on Charlie’s future as Matt Murdock. As it’s been over a year since the Man Without Fear’s final season there’s still a while of a cooling off period until these characters could be used in the MCU. But many sources seem to confirm that they want Charlie to return as DD in some shape or form. As the flagship show on Netflix it garnered much favoritism among fans and news like this comes as no surprise. Season 3 ended with a cliffhanger setting up for a rematch with a full on comic book Bullseye but it’s all just for wait and see at this time.

Jessica Jones: Krysten is not enjoying much work since the farewell JJ season earlier this year. Instead she is enjoying her best life as mom to her son with the incredible name of Bruce Julian Knight Granofsky. But with such availability it seems that Marvel Studios wants to put her back to work at Alias Investigations once the cooling off period is through as well. It is interesting considering that this Defenders roster was an uncanonical Marvel Tv conception. In the comics Jess is not a major player so by carrying over both she and Daredevil makes it seem like Marvel Studios would like to reserve their continuity in the MCU.

Luke Cage: An iconic figure both in the era he debuted in the comics as well as in the time his series aired. His character is important yet like Jess even he is not as major a player in the comics as DD. But his show really picked up in the final season ending on a very interesting note with Luke as the King of Harlem’s Paradise. However unlike the former it seems that while the MCU might have plans for the character they do not plan to bring back Mike and would in fact reboot the series entirely. For me I love Mike and his portrayal of Luke and the series as a whole however I do feel that his fight choreography never lived up to his comic book capacity. Mike is doing well though appearing in the new movie Black & Blue while also starring in the new CBS horror show Evil. If these rumors are true Luke won’t be the same without him though. By extension as joked about before Simone has moved on as well and is starring in the new CBS show All Rise (it’s evident that CBS has big LC fans) alongside Dex himself Wilson Bethel. Happy for them but of course this supports the idea of the reboot.

Iron Fist: I know it looks bad that I don’t have any pics of the cast and how many people strongly disliked the series but it’s primarily because I just couldn’t find any pics of them in their upcoming works. The hard criticism of IF followed Finn for a while but faith the Games of Thrones alum is hopefully to be renewed as he’s been cast to the Apple TV+ series Dickinson. However the future of this series beyond a second season seems hard if star Hailee Steinfeld is to do the Disney+ Hawkeye series and continue on as Kate Bishop. Jessica is also having no trouble finding work as she is set to appear in next year’s film Monster Problems as well as being in talks to star in The Matrix 4. Now there are rumors that the the Living Weapon might make a rebooted return in the upcoming Shang Chi film but this just seems more like a suggestion for the kung fu film to include more kung fu heroes and as such should not be taken seriously.

Punisher: Of the Defenders (if you considered Punisher as one) Jon just might be the busiest and biggest name of them all. While he’s not exactly a Hollywood headliner Hollywood sure does love him. From his big break in The Walking Dead Jonny Bernthal has worked alongside heavy hitters from Leo DiCaprio in Wolf on Wallstreet to Brad Pitt in Fury and now Matt Damon and Christian Bale in Ford v Ferrari. But him as Frank Castle was some real hardcore headlining to me on par with the likes of RDJ as Iron Man or Heath Ledger (RIP) as the Joker. He pulled all the great comic book parts of the character off the page and in adding his own spirit into Frank made him feel real. I feel like he really found the role he was born to play and hopefully Kevin Feige feels the same. While on press tour for FvF in an interview Jon was asked on the matter in which case he replied that Frank is “in his bones” but he feels the Punisher needs to have a presence in today’s media even if not portrayed by him. Ironically Punisher is one of Feige’s favorite characters and he even helped produce the film Punisher: Warzone in which case he handpicked Volstagg himself Ray Stevenson as his ideal Frank Castle. But hopefully Jon’s natural, gritty, and hearty performance spoke for itself as reports say its no surprise that Marvel Studios has plans for Jon and this fan favorite to return to the big screen.

OKAY I’M TIRED LET’S GO QUICKLY NOW. today was long and very fun, I definitely enjoyed it. my alarm was set for 8 but for some annoying reason I woke up at 7:16 and couldn’t fall back asleep which was less than fun but Jess woke up shortly afterwards and we just started getting ready and were thus early for everything on our schedule lol. So we got all our stuff together and left the airbnb, took an uber to ihop because Jess wanted “a real breakfast” (eggs, specifically) where I predictably had a waffle and there was a terrifying moment where I was eating it and my esophagus decided to do that spasmy thing it does that kinda felt like I was choking and I couldn’t do anything about it for a solid like 10 seconds so that was kinda scary but thankfully it then subsided. We were under the impression that the con didn’t open for general admission till 11 (which looked like it was not true) so we still had time to kill, so the plan was to uber to a starbucks and hang out there, except we kinda messed up because the starbucks we went to was inside a grocery store....so not exactly what we were expecting. but we hung out there for a little bit and then were just like fuck it let’s just go over there and we did and it was open so?? that was that lol. We didn’t know how the format of the con was going to be since when they had Ace Chicago they literally had the worst venue and it was just set up extremely poorly, so we didn’t know what to expect here. This was much better though, it was in a sports arena (ice hockey?) so all the venders and artist alley were in the outer circles with the floor itself being for panels and autographs/photo ops. Much better than Chicago, lol. so we looked around for a bit and I obtained a wonder woman phone case (I was waiting to get one since I know I’d have good options at a con) before getting in line for my autograph with Charlie Cox since that was at 12. so we stood in line for that for a bit but once it hit 12 we started going pretty quickly, Charlie Cox was super cool and I told him I was a real lawyer and showed him my ARDC card which was great and he was like “so you just need to become a superhero now since you already have the lawyer and the red hair down” which was pretty much perfect lol so that was great. from there we went over to the other side of the floor (they had it set up with a massive divider in the middle because the celebrities was in an extra security area so they didn’t want other people coming in, so you had to go up to the next level which was a LOT of steps to transfer over) and waited for the Taron Egerton panel at 1. This was the guy Jess came for, he was in the movie Kingsman which she showed me and it was actually very good so I was looking forward to that. Unfortunately the audio set up was not very good and it was really hard to figure out what they were actually saying for much of it, but what I did hear was good, so that was good. Once that was finished Jess had the photo op with him at 2:30 with the line starting at 2, so she went to go do that while I went up to the vendors in hopes of finding some funkos since there were a couple vendors that had them. Elektra from Daredevil has been on my want list for a while, she’s selling for $8 on amazon but it’s much more fun to go find them at cons, so I was expecting like $10 and it should be easy to find since Charlie was there (and Krysten Ritter was too, I was doing a low key Jessica Jones cosplay but it was hot in there so I took the jacket and scarf off for most of the time). I did indeed find her at my first stop but they were charging $15 and I was like “ehhh I can get her for $8 on amazon” and was ready to move on but they were like “oh we’ll match that” since they were apparently trying to get rid of their stock so I said okay cool and got her lol. The only other one I had on my wanted list for the moment was Kevin McAllister from Home Alone but I felt like I wasn’t going to find that at a con lol so I’ll probably just order him from somebody else. While I was looking though I saw some game of thrones ones which made me want to see if I could find an Arya one because I love my small murder child so I kept looking until I found her and got her as well. I went back to the floor area to wait for Jess to finish her photo op but I was on the side across from the security so the security guards up there wanted us to just wait on the outer ring of the upper level so I just chilled out there for a bit and made friends with the security guards and ended up getting free ice cream??? haha there was a little stand that was like a nitrogen ice cream (meaning it’s made using liquid nitrogen, if you’ve never seen it before you should look it up because it’s super cool) stand and they were apparently closing down for the day so they just came in and was like “who wants free ice cream??” so that was fun lol. Jess was starting to get lightheaded since we hadn’t eaten since breakfast so once she was done we sat outside for a little until she felt a bit better and then ubered to the Cracker Barrel we wanted to hit up (which we were originally going to walk to since it was only like half a mile away, but obviously Jess was feeling lightheaded and she’d already been in lung pain all day without her inhaler so we weren’t going to do that). We were planning on getting to the airport by 5 for our 7 pm flight and it was like 3:30ish when we got there so we told our waiter we only had an hour and they actually had a list of things that was like “in a hurry? try these!” and it included chicken and dumplings which is what Jess always gets and it also had roast beef so I was like okay I’ll try that. Super good service, I swear we had our food in like under ten minutes lol. and omg, the roast beef was so good, I’m never ordering anything else at Cracker Barrel ever again lol. So we ended up leaving there more around 4:15 so we had plenty of time to get to the airport which was like a 25 minute drive. Nice uber driver we chatted with a bit, once we got to the airport it was fairly deserted as tends to be the case on Sunday evenings, so we planted ourselves at the gate and waited as the area slowly filled up. we were zone 4 for boarding of course since we have the super cheap tickets (always) so we were still siting while like, every other person was already up and trying to get on line lol it was funny. Got on board and in our seats, flight went well no hiccups there, I alternated between candy crush and sudoku depending on when I would lose my lives in candy crush and needed to kill time lol but then I’d get sucked into sudoku and do a few games of that before going back. We were cracking up laughing because we were flying Spirit where you have to buy drinks/snacks and we were being kinda ridiculous and got their “cheese plate” and Jess got tea for her lungs and the flight attendant said something like “oh we can bring you more hot water” but we weren’t sure how we were supposed to get it so we were like waiting but they weren’t coming around so we pressed the call button and it like beeped and then shined in this like bright blue light all over us and we were just like omg this was the worst decision I feel so shamed lol but she came right back over and brought it, so I guess it worked. Landed soon enough, walked back through the terminal and up to the door where you can call for the uber. It was one of the ones with the light on the front that you can change different colors and I had it set at green, and I swear there were like 4 cars with a green one and nobody with any other color lol, I’ll have to go back to purple. Ubered home fine, dropped Jess off and then went to my place, whereupon I dropped my stuff, got in my pajamas, took my pills, then sat down and wrote this so there’s time for my xanax to kick in and I can actually fall asleep when I lay down for real. And with that, I am done. I will be sleeping for the next however many hours it takes for my body to wake up lol and I plan on enjoying it very much. So I will be doing that now. Goodnight lovelies.
