Exploring the Impact of Disability Pride Month: A Closer Look
Introduction
July marks the celebration of Disability Pride Month, a time dedicated to honoring the unique experiences and contributions of individuals with disabilities. This month-long observance is not just a celebration but a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey towards inclusion, acceptance, and advocacy. In this blog, we will take a closer look at the impact of Disability Pride Month, its history, and how it continues to shape society.
The Origins of Disability Pride Month
Disability Pride Month began as an offshoot of the broader disability rights movement, which gained momentum in the late 20th century. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), signed into law on July 26, 1990, was a pivotal moment in this movement, laying the foundation for disability rights and anti-discrimination laws in the United States. Disability Pride Month was established to coincide with this landmark event, serving as a time to celebrate the achievements of the disability community and to continue advocating for equal rights.
Raising Awareness and Challenging Stigmas
One of the most significant impacts of Disability Pride Month is its role in raising awareness and challenging societal stigmas. Despite progress, people with disabilities often face misconceptions and discrimination. Disability Pride Month provides a platform to educate the public about the diverse experiences of individuals with disabilities, breaking down stereotypes and promoting a more inclusive mindset.
Empowering Individuals and Communities
Disability Pride Month empowers individuals with disabilities by fostering a sense of community and belonging. It encourages people to embrace their identities, share their stories, and take pride in their achievements. This empowerment extends beyond the individual, strengthening the broader disability community and reinforcing the importance of solidarity and mutual support.
Advocacy and Policy Change
The visibility and momentum generated during Disability Pride Month play a crucial role in advocacy efforts. Activists and organizations leverage this period to push for policy changes and greater accessibility. These efforts have led to significant advancements in areas such as transportation, education, employment, and healthcare. By highlighting ongoing challenges and advocating for solutions, Disability Pride Month contributes to meaningful and lasting change.
Celebrating Achievements and Contributions
Disability Pride Month is also a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of individuals with disabilities across various fields. From artists and athletes to scientists and activists, people with disabilities have made remarkable contributions to society. By shining a spotlight on these accomplishments, Disability Pride Month inspires future generations and underscores the value of diversity and inclusion.
Fostering Inclusivity and Acceptance
Ultimately, the impact of Disability Pride Month extends to fostering a more inclusive and accepting society. It encourages everyone to recognize and value the unique perspectives and talents that individuals with disabilities bring to the table. Inclusivity benefits everyone, creating a richer, more diverse community where all members can thrive.
Conclusion
Disability Pride Month is a powerful celebration that goes beyond recognition; it drives awareness, empowerment, advocacy, and inclusivity. As we observe Disability Pride Month, let us reflect on the progress made, acknowledge the work that still needs to be done, and commit to creating a more inclusive and equitable world for all. By embracing the spirit of Disability Pride Month, we honor the resilience, strength, and contributions of the disability community, paving the way for a brighter future.

blog post 4 | research
While there are several avenues of research I might explore for this essay, such as how to improve colorwork knitting or the history of the Norwegian Olympic sweaters, I have decided to focus on the studies that produce evidence of how beneficial knitting is to one's mental health.
In a study done by a PhD student, Joanna Nordstrand, results showed that the benefits one's mental health by engaging in meditation, which can decrease anxiety and depression. It gives one confidence in one's creative ability, a sense of identity through occupation, mental stimulation which helps reduce symptoms of dementia and ADHD and challenges the brain, and problem solving skills.
There are also benefits found in joining the knitting community by introducing one to a "low-stakes" social environment where everyone can work or share their craft without the pressure of job status, hierarchal positions, or other social stigmas.
Being occupied with a task not only yields a sense of accomplishment, but it also provides a system of structure in one's life by being a designated time and space for one to relax, focus, and take a break from other life stressors. It can play a role in one's long-term gratification by motivating one to complete other daily chores or less-meaningful activities in order to have more knitting time. The tactile experience of working with the yarn offers a pleasant sensory experience that is both calming and engaging.
While many forms of creativity are similarly healing to the mind and used in the therapeutic field, knitting is one of the few that can be done discreetly in public without disturbing anyone nearby. It is quiet, easy to transport, and calming for those with social anxiety as it can provide a temporary reprieve from social engagement such as prolonged eye contact and small talk.
Perhaps the most interesting part of this study is the segment in which researchers discuss how knitters choose to challenge themselves with different types of new skills. The preferred level of difficulty varies from person to person, day to day. Often when one has more stress, more knitting is required to relax, but mindless operations are preferred.
I would like to further this research by relating it to how the Nordic way of living promotes slow and mindful habits, such as knitting, to practice gratitude and find inner peace every day. The time and mental energy I have spent on this craft varies greatly over time, and there have been some minor disappointments such as unsuccessful projects or financial impediments, but overall it has been the most worthwhile pursuit of art I have found in benefitting my mental health and quality of life.
Here is the study:
I hope everyone's research is going well for this blog post! Thank you for reading if you made it this far (:

A Whovian Watches Star Trek for the First Time: Part 083 - Vulcan Corruption Undone
Star Trek: Enterprise - Season 4 Episode 9 - Kir'Shara
We open with the Vulcan High Command preparing to Invade Andoria. Their leader is claiming that the Andorians have the Xindi prototype weapon, from Season 3. Of Course, we know that Archer destroyed that Prototype when the Andorians tried to take it, so these are just lies for the Vulcans to justify a war.
Meanwhile, Archer is on his way to the Vulcan Capital with the Kir'Shara, and Enterprise is heading to Andoria. Trip's plan is to meet Shran, because of course he's the only Andorian who would trust Enterprise without evidence. Apparently, if the Kir'Shara is revealed to the public, it will prove that the Syrranites are correct about Surak's teachings, and will remove most of the Vulcan High Command's support.
Apparently the Syrranites also know a cure for Panar Syndrome, from way back in the episode Stigma. This doesn't feel like as big a revelation as it should be though, because we haven't really seen how T'Pol's Panar Syndrome has effected her since that episode. If we had been shown its effects throughout, say switched out her Trellium Addiction for the effects of Panar Syndrome, I feel like the revelation would feel more important.
Enterprise arrives at Andoria and tell Shran about the invasion. His anger in this scene is really well performed. Instead of believing their plans however, they transport Savol onto their ship for a torture session. I love that their way of torturing Vulcans is to just forcibly lower their emotional inhibitions, I thought it was a little bit funny. Savol also got a few good lines while being tortured, specifically about his story about the Soldier who's name now means fool in the Vulcan Language. Eventually Shran and the Andorians do come around though, and even invite Enterprise to join them in the battle
A few Vulcans working for the High Command intercept Archer's group, and we get a pretty cool Melee fight scene. T'Pol also lying about where they're taking the Kir'Shara was also great. Archer and T'Pau's various guerrilla tactics in the desert make for some great action.
Meanwhile T'Pol is taken to Vulcan Command, and I just love how slimey V'las sounds when he talks about executing her, like he's just so delighted to have an excuse for an execution. Sent a shiver down my spine. However, his plans are interrupted by the Andorian fleet intercepting the Vulcan fleet. Plus, scans aren't showing the Xindi tech, because it doesn't exist. A Firefight breaks out between the fleets just as Archer arrives at High Command to present the Kir'Shara, and the fleet is called off.
Apparently, also T'Pol's husband has annulled the Marriage, which is a nice conclusion to that particular conflict, I just wish he was more directly involved in the arc for him to come to that conclusion. It looks like Vulcan is going to go through a huge reformation now.
The episode also ends off on a really weird note of revealing that V'Las was working for some other Vulcan dude, and the episode acts like it's a big reveal, but I've never seen this guy before.
This was definitely the political intrigue focus episode I've been looking for since the start of this arc. The Vulcan religion and Worldbuilding stuff is fun, but I'm glad we're really digging into the political corruption themes. I find it really interesting that the Religious sect of the Vulcans seem to become the dominant force on Vulcan after this arc. Is that what they're like going forward? I'm here for it, it's just weird that what I thought about the Vulcans before starting these posts was more akin to how they've been so far.

airing my grievances
| aug 2nd, 2024
in trying to stay true to myself, i find myself (for a second day in a row!!) writing out my feelings onto this blog. i am tired of running and want to stick to obligations that i have made, for once in my life. what this looks like is precisely this: writing despite not feeling like it, which i am absolutely not on this fine friday evening. i am exhausted and so emotionally drained that 1. have a harder time expressing them due to fatigue and 2. kind of emotionally numb since i use numbness to protect myself when i feel overwhelmed. however, this technique is not healthy whatsoever. so what has happened today and what have i been stressed about? well i've had to go into the city (without giving out details, i live in a suburb and had to drive further inwards towards the city core to buy some furniture for my new apt as university season is coming closer and closer) to run some errands and the spending aspect of furnishing a place for university is stressing-me-the-fuck-out! more on that later. i've also felt many feelings of nostalgia today, which will also be discussed.
so, why does pursuing an education have to be so stressful? money money money MONEY! the monetary aspect of life, especially in regards to renting out a place + sorting out things related to this have been stressing me out to the point where i have had really bad diarrhea and wake up at 7am in the morning and cannot sleep any longer due to my anxiety, despite still feeling rather physically tired. i am not in a terrible financial place, by any means of course. i am rather privileged in terms of capital. however, i have a rational/irrational (i have not been able to figure out if it is rational or not as i am still confused on how i truly understand the value of money) fear of going broke while pursuing my studies. i am worried that i will become homeless (not that i carry any stigma towards homeless individuals. the system is simply broken and we as a society really do not invest in these individuals as a whole. and don't even get me started on the factors that contribute to this). a question for me regarding this would be: so if you are so worried about being broke, why don't you just live at home with your parents while pursuing your education? well, i just don't think i could do it. commuting has various negative impacts on health and as someone who suffers from anxiety and really bad depression, i simply do not have any more energy to deal with the consequences associated with this (increased likelihood of development certain physical health conditions and the overall negative impact commuting would have on my energy levels + mood). i need a lot of time to recuperate and practice self care. this really cannot be done on any sort of public transportation, especially during a trip that would easily take 2+ hours. yes, this sounds like a "privileged" person problem but i do believe that if i were to commute, it would eventually result in me dropping out of university. on top of that, i really cannot live with my parents anymore. i need to break free as them as they are having a (negative) profound impact on me. i fear that if i live with them any longer, i will never be able to truly recover from the damage taken. the damage? two emotionally unavailable adults that judge me on everything that i do and i simply cannot take it anymore. in being emotionally unavailable, they cannot express their feelings properly. i am expected to comfort them, despite them never reciprocating this and even if they did, a daughter should not have to play this role. uncontrollable emotional outbursts ranging from expressions of annoyance to anything to white hot anger. they are codependent on me, from tech issues to directions to providing them with emotional support. i am tired of taking care of everyone but no one taking care of me. the worst thing is that they are completely unaware of the fact that 1. they are acting this extreme and 2. that it is deeply affecting me. and yes, i have tried to have conversations re: this but i don't get through to them. either this case of denial is intentional or unintentional. either way, it's rather frustrating. i also do not want to be in a relationship (platonic or not) where my major role of mine is to try to fix the other person! this is a useless and exhausting effort! save your energy by saving yourself! some may think that this comes off as selfish as "if you truly cared, you would try to change them no matter how many tries it takes." maybe so, but most of the time, trying to change someone simply does not work, especially if they do not want to or simply have an inability to change. at this point, you can only focus on yourself and do what is best for you. for me, this means putting a lot more distance between me and my parents and in the process, learning + undoing unhealthy behaviours and creating healthy ones instead. i believe at this point that this can only be done if i am on my own. through living long enough on this earth, i find that i am easily swayed by others emotions. i unconsciously mimic the mood of the room, even if it does not align with my actual morals on how should i react

Championing Disability Freedom and Equality: Paving the Way for Inclusive Progress
Disability freedom centers on the right of individuals with disabilities to live autonomous, self-directed lives. This concept is rooted in equality, ensuring that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers to make choices about their own lives, including where and how they live, work, and interact with the community. Achieving this level of freedom requires a multifaceted approach involving legal protection, societal change, and personal empowerment.
Understanding the Current Landscape
While significant strides have been made in the recognition and enforcement of disability rights, genuine equality remains elusive for many. Physical barriers, social stigmas, and institutional discrimination still limit the full participation of disabled individuals in society. Understanding these challenges is the first step toward addressing them effectively.
Legislation and Accessibility
Key legislative frameworks like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in the United States and the Equality Act in the UK have laid the groundwork for improving accessibility and combating discrimination. However, compliance varies, and many areas—from public transportation to digital access—still lack comprehensive measures that support true disability freedom.
The Role of Technology in Enhancing Freedom
Advancements in technology have ushered in new opportunities for individuals with disabilities to exercise their freedoms. Assistive technologies, such as voice recognition software, mobility devices, and customizable apps, empower users by breaking down barriers to communication, transportation, and employment.
Innovations Driving Change
Emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) are set to revolutionize accessibility further. Smart homes equipped with IoT devices can help individuals with disabilities perform daily tasks more independently. Meanwhile, AI can offer personalized support systems for learning and interaction, adapting in real-time to the user’s needs.
Tackling Employment Inequality
Employment remains a critical area where disability freedom is often restricted. Despite legal protections, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is significantly higher than for the general population. This gap highlights the need for more inclusive hiring practices and workplace accommodations.
Strategies for Workplace Inclusion
Employers can play a pivotal role in enhancing disability freedom by:
Adopting Inclusive Recruitment Policies: Processes that are accessible and welcoming to candidates with disabilities, such as offering application materials in various formats and ensuring interview venues are accessible.
Providing Reasonable Accommodations: Adjustments in the workplace that enable individuals with disabilities to perform their job functions effectively, such as flexible scheduling, specialized equipment, and telecommuting options.
Fostering an Inclusive Culture: Training and awareness programs that promote understanding and respect for diversity within the workforce.
The Importance of Inclusive Education
Education is a cornerstone of empowerment and independence. Inclusive education systems that support learners with disabilities from early childhood through higher education are essential for enabling full participation in society.
Educational Reforms for Better Inclusion
Creating an inclusive educational environment involves several key actions:
Curriculum Adaptations: Offering materials and teaching strategies that accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
Teacher Training: Equipping educators with the tools and knowledge to effectively support students with disabilities.
Peer Integration Initiatives: Programs that encourage interaction and understanding among students with and without disabilities.
Advocating for Comprehensive Healthcare
Access to healthcare is another area where individuals with disabilities often face significant barriers. These can range from physical accessibility issues in medical facilities to a lack of providers trained to address the specific needs of disabled patients.
Ensuring Accessible Healthcare Services
Improvements in healthcare access can be achieved by:
Training Healthcare Professionals: Educating medical staff on disability etiquette and specific health conditions that affect disabled individuals.
Improving Facility Accessibility: Ensuring that medical equipment and buildings are accessible to all patients.
Promoting Preventative Care: Specialized programs aimed at addressing the unique health needs of individuals with disabilities.
Building Community and Support Networks
Community support is vital for sustaining disability freedom and equality. Networks of care and support not only provide necessary resources but also foster a sense of belonging and collective identity among individuals with disabilities.
Strengthening Advocacy and Support
Efforts to build strong support networks include:
Empowering Advocacy Groups: Supporting organizations that fight for disability rights and policy changes.
Creating Spaces for Community Engagement: Hosting events and activities that are accessible and encourage participation from individuals with disabilities.
Leveraging Social Media: Using platforms to connect, share resources, and amplify the voices of disabled individuals globally.
Moving Towards a Barrier-Free Future
Championing disability freedom and equality is an ongoing challenge that requires the cooperation of all sectors of society. From policymakers and businesses to educators and individuals, each has a role in shaping an inclusive world. As we continue to advance in technology and societal understanding, the goal of a barrier-free future becomes increasingly achievable. By committing to comprehensive reform and proactive advocacy, we can pave the way for a society where disability freedom and equality are not ideals but realities.

#JamesDonaldson On #MentalHealth - #MentalHealth And #MentalIllness: What Resources Are Available To Help Overcome The #Stigma?
Ian Robinson, Monroe News-Star The terms "crazy" and "unstable" have become pejorative terms because of the way society views #mentalillness, local professionals say, and this #stigma is causing many to suffer needlessly. The effort to destigmatize #mentalhealthissues seeks to help more people become more willing to seek the treatment they need. Kimberly Peters, a #behavior analyst and former therapist in Monroe, said people tend to associate #mentalhealth with not being productive. Peters said when you see a homeless person, the ultimate assumption is that they may have #mentalhealthissues, which is not always the case. "If somebody had cancer, we wouldn't stigmatize them," Peters said. "If somebody had diabetes, we wouldn't stigmatize them and #mentalhealth is another illness. Why is it that something in your brain is seen as something so different to something in your body?" #Stress, #depression and the holidays: Counseling professionals give tips for dealing with holiday stressors #JamesDonaldson notes: Welcome to the “next chapter” of my life… being a voice and an advocate for #mentalhealthawarenessandsuicideprevention, especially pertaining to our younger generation of students and student-athletes. Getting men to speak up and reach out for help and assistance is one of my passions. Us men need to not suffer in silence or drown our sorrows in alcohol, hang out at bars and strip joints, or get involved with drug use. Having gone through a recent bout of #depression and #suicidalthoughts myself, I realize now, that I can make a huge difference in the lives of so many by sharing my story, and by sharing various resources I come across as I work in this space. #http://bit.ly/JamesMentalHealthArticle #Mentalhealth has become stigmatized politically, socially and historically, according to Northeast Delta Human Services Authority Executive Director Monteic A. Sizer. "For political reasons, there are public policies that were created that favored one group over another group," Sizer said. "For social reasons, people developed issues via social groupings, be it their family, be it their peers. Historically, there are cultural and structural barriers that again advantages one group over another." Sizer said acknowledging that all humans experience emotional distress in life is a way to encourage mental health. "You also normalize it by saying political and social factors influence #mentalhealth outcomes," Sizer said. "Science confirms that about 80% of all #mentalhealth and primary care challenges can be attributed to social and environmental factors. Genetic factors only contribute to a lesser extent or degree." More: What's the difference between #CBD and #THC? Are they legal in Louisiana? There are disparities between white and #Blackcommunities, Sizer said, however, there are also disparities shown between economically marginalized blacks and whites compared to those who are not marginalized or poor. "Barriers preventing Blacks from seeking services are largely social," Sizer said. "We call these barriers 'negative social determinants of health' and again, these are contributing factors that creates the atmosphere for additional people needing our services." Sizer said some of those barriers include a lack of insurance, not having transportation to treatments, not knowing how to navigate #mentalhealth systems and discriminatory practices in #mentalhealth systems. #Domesticviolence: Resources are available to help break the cycle Peters said she is unsure if a group of people receiving #mentalhealth can be based on nationality or the size of a municipality. Peters said large metropolitan areas, such as Atlanta or Dallas, offer more resources towards #mentalhealth. "It seems it's the size of the town and resources," Peters said. "I don't think you can discount the culture that the person comes from. New Orleans is a big town but it's a known fact that there's a large population of untreated #mentalhealth individuals. I do think race plays into it, as well as the size of the town and resources that are put into it, the choices that you have and the bigger hospitals makes a big difference too." SANITARY NAPKIN DESTROYERS: A SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION FOR PUBLIC RESTROOMS
Public Restrooms in high-traffic areas like offices, schools, malls, or transport hubs are crucial for maintaining hygiene. While maintaining hygiene, many aspects go unnoticed. One such issue is the proper disposal of sanitary napkins.
Traditional disposal methods often result in unpleasant odors, overflowing bins, and clogged drains which cannot be compromised. As it affects our hygiene, being wary of such conditions is essential.
To reduce the harmful effects of these napkins new-age technology and sustainability have been combined to form an effective solution, the Sanitary Napkin Destroyer. It aims to offer a cleaner, more efficient, and eco-friendly alternative to the traditional methods.
Let’s learn more about this machine and how it works in detail.
CONCERNS WITH TRADITIONAL DISPOSAL METHODS
The disposal of sanitary napkins for women without anybody noticing is worrying. Mostly women wrap the napkins in the newspaper and throw them in the bin. Some even flush them in the toilet or leave them in corners which causes blockages and contamination
Moreover, these napkins are mostly made of non-biodegradable materials like plastics and synthetic fibers that take hundreds and thousands of years to break down. This leads to massive landfill problems and high-scale pollution.
HOW SANITARY NAPKIN DESTROYERS WORK?
The gadgets are used to discard sanitary napkins hygienically and sustainably. It uses high-temperature incineration to completely destroy the soiled product by turning it into ash. This eliminates the risk of contamination and odor as it reduces the spread of bacteria and other diseases that thrive in waste bins and water containers.
This approach is more appropriate and hygienic than the traditional disposal methods.
ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
The objective with which these devices were built was to minimize the harmful effects on the environment by safe disposal. By using incinerators instead of the standard ways, these devices downsize the landfills and the volume of non-biodegradable waste that ends up causing plastic pollution.
Additionally, some destroyers are designed to use less power while dealing with spoiled products to promote sustainability and energy efficiency.
IMPROVED HYGIENE
Apart from the environmental benefits, these machines improve the hygienic standards in public restrooms. It contributes to a cleaner environment by eradicating the need for waste bins. Heavily crowded areas or public spaces like shopping malls, offices, and schools are difficult to keep clean, which is why these places are more in need of these destroyers.
This also offers a discrete option to get rid of sanitary napkins, enhancing the comfort of restroom users. Further, it promotes hygienic menstrual practices and lessens the stigma related to menstruation.
With cutting-edge technology, these gadgets are a new-age solution for sustainable and hygienic solutions for disposing of menstrual napkins. It is a complete solution to all problems related to traditional techniques. It cuts trash, lessens the negative impact on the surroundings, and enhances cleanliness.
As the knowledge of sustainability and public health issues grows, the use of such devices will also increase simultaneously, leading to a cleaner and environmentally friendly future.

NDIS Disability Lismore Providers
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) allows participants to self-manage their own funded supports. This includes choosing a provider and managing their support services on their behalf. However, not all providers are NDIS registered. It is important to choose a registered provider with appropriate qualifications, registration, and insurances.
In the literature, it was highlighted that people with psychosocial disabilities and those from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds experienced barriers applying to the NDIS. This was particularly prevalent in rural areas. To know more about Disability Lismore, visit the Dabba Mallangyirren website or call 0403856995.
Dabba Mallangyirren is a registered NDIS provider of disability services, and is committed to providing personalised care that meets each participant’s individual needs. Their team of experienced professionals is dedicated to building genuine connections and creating positive experiences for their clients. They offer a range of supports, including home and community care, personal care, respite services, day support, accommodation assistance, transport and allied health. They also provide NDIS support coordination, which helps participants get the most out of their plans. The service is available in Lismore, Ballina, Tweed Byron Bay and Northern Rivers areas of NSW. They follow strict privacy rules and will not share your information without your consent.
Dabba Mallangyirren is a specialist NDIS provider that offers a range of disability services. Their team of qualified professionals is dedicated to providing personalised care to meet the unique needs of each client. They also strive to create positive experiences for their clients. In addition, they prioritise genuine connections and encourage participants to add a little adventure to their lives.
They operate across multiple regions, including Tweed, Byron Bay, Lismore, Northern Rivers region, Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Melbourne. Their regional presence makes them a trusted choice for individuals seeking disability support. Their strong commitment to personalised care and creating positive experiences sets them apart from the competition.
The NDIS provides many options for people with psychosocial disability, including community access, supported independent living, a fun-filled short term accommodation break, or a friendly companion. However, these options can be difficult for people with psychosocial disability to navigate. The NDIS has also been criticised for not addressing a range of issues that can impact on the health and wellbeing of participants with psychosocial disabilities.
Debra Hamilton is a lived experience mental health advocate and is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Sydney. Her research explores experiences of choice and control for NDIS participants with a primary psychosocial disability. She has a Bachelor of Medicine (Hons) and a Graduate Diploma in Bioethics. Her previous work has included community ceramic classes for children and adults, OSHC child care, high school teaching and NDIS Local Area Coordination services.
A number of publications have reported that the episodic nature of mental illness creates barriers for people with psychosocial disability to apply for NDIS. A dissertation by Langmead also highlighted that self-stigma can impact a person’s sense of entitlement to equal rights and opportunities such as those provided by the NDIS.
Solutions are needed that address these barriers, including assertive outreach to engage with people who may be disconnected from their mental health supports and a redesign of the NDIS application process that is respectful and helpful rather than retraumatising. The recently released NDIS Participant Access and Inclusion Framework has committed to improving these issues, but its impact remains to be seen.
As an NDIS participant, Dabba Mallangyirren has a passion for working with individuals who have psychosocial disabilities. She is dedicated to genuine connections, safety, and creating positive experiences for her clients. She has completed a Bachelor of Arts and Post Graduate Diploma in Education, and is a qualified mental health first aider. She has also been employed as a Local Area Coordinator and Community Engagement Champion.
NDIS participants have the freedom to choose providers and workers for their supports, based on their interests and goals. They can also maintain informal support arrangements with family and friends. However, many NDIS participants find it helpful to use a service coordination provider. These providers can help them navigate the NDIS system and select suitable support workers and providers. To know more about Disability Lismore, visit the Dabba Mallangyirren website or call 0403856995.
There is a cottage industry growing around NDIS services, with a variety of companies keen to clip the ticket between participants and service providers. One of these is CareAbout, a company that specialises in marketing disability support providers to NDIS participants.

Breaking the Chains: Accessing Chronic Pain Treatment in Orange County
Introduction
Chronic pain is a pervasive and debilitating condition that affects millions of individuals worldwide, including those residing in Orange County. Despite its prevalence, chronic pain often goes untreated or undertreated, leading to significant physical, emotional, and social consequences. Accessing effective chronic pain treatment is crucial for breaking free from the chains of suffering and reclaiming a fulfilling life. In this article, we explore the challenges of accessing chronic pain treatment in Orange County and highlight strategies to overcome barriers and improve access to care.
Understanding Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is defined as persistent pain lasting for weeks, months, or even years, beyond the normal healing time for an injury or illness. It can manifest in various forms, including musculoskeletal pain, neuropathic pain, and visceral pain, and is often accompanied by other symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, and mood changes. Common causes of chronic pain include arthritis, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, injuries, and underlying medical conditions.
Challenges in Accessing Chronic Pain Treatment
Despite advancements in pain management, accessing adequate treatment for chronic pain remains a significant challenge for many individuals in Orange County. Several factors contribute to these challenges, including:
Limited Access to Specialists: There is a shortage of pain specialists, including pain management physicians, in Orange County, leading to long wait times for appointments and limited availability of specialized care.
Insurance Barriers: Insurance coverage for chronic pain treatment varies, and some individuals may face limitations or denials of coverage for certain treatments or medications, making it difficult to afford necessary care.
Stigma and Misunderstanding: Chronic pain is often misunderstood or stigmatized, leading to skepticism from healthcare providers, friends, family members, and employers. This can discourage individuals from seeking help or discussing their pain openly.
Fragmented Care: The fragmented nature of the healthcare system can make it challenging for individuals with chronic pain to navigate multiple providers, treatments, and interventions effectively, leading to disjointed care and suboptimal outcomes.
Socioeconomic Factors: Socioeconomic factors such as income, education, employment status, and access to transportation can impact individuals' ability to access chronic pain treatment, with disparities in care often affecting marginalized communities disproportionately.
Strategies to Improve Access to Chronic Pain Treatment
Addressing the challenges of accessing chronic pain treatment in Orange County requires a multifaceted approach that addresses systemic barriers and enhances the availability and quality of care. Key strategies include:

Day 28: Around the World in 30 Days - Glen Waverley, Victoria, Australia
A suburb of Melbourne, about a half hour drive in if the traffic isn’t dense, meaning that while Magicks aren’t registered or regulated living there as opposed to those with residence in the city, but the stigma for certain Magicks is less tolerable due to the population being mostly families. But the over all Australian acceptance on Magicks and magic in general make it a nice place to live, Mundus and Magick alike.
It’s also a half hour drive away from the beach! It’s a large part of the culture, a nice weekend away to the beach could be anyone’s plans. The beaches here are nice and sandy with lovely waters. Lost of Magicks who possess abilities with water live along the coast, creating a lot of fun activities for locals and tourists alike. There’s one particular legend who is known for being able to manipulate water so well that she takes people out into the ocean under a bubble on tours along the ocean floor. She and her son, who has the ability to communicate with animals (ocean life included!), are one of the highlights of the area.
Another notable thing about the beaches in the area is the local
Sports are a big part of the culture in Melbourne, those that like it love it and those that don’t feel like it’s being shoved down their throats! Glen Waverley is known for having most of the footy grounds for the area. Meaning it’s home to a lot of pitches for football, cricket, rugby, etc etc. It hosts Mundus leagues, Magick leagues, and leagues that accept both with amended rules to make the games fair.
Crime is low in this area, as well as the inner city, due to Australia’s regulations on weapons and minimum wage keeping most people living comfortably. Crime is mostly organized rather than opportunistic. The police employ Magicks and Mundus, though Magicks are favored due to their abilities being seen as an advantage.
Since Australia is very Magick friendly, they also allow Magicks to enter their health care field. They encourage those with healing abilities to join. Those with such abilities are required to attend the same schooling and complete the same certifications as anyone else, but they are highly favored when seeking employment.
Glen Waverley is known for having some of the better public schools within the area, making it a desirable place to live for families. There is no separation of Magckis and Mundus in the schools, though they do offer certain after school programs for certain Magicks. Example: There are sorcerer centric events at the local secondary for the younger kids about to graduate to find an older sorcerer to fall under an apprenticeship with.
Due to the magical wildlife that populates Australia there are a lot of them found within the suburbs as the population and infrastructure branched out from the city, over taking the natural landscape. Glen Waverley in particular is known for having large influxes of the Oozlum bird. The local football club has even claimed the bird for their mascot.
But some of the magical wildlife are not as friendly or as pretty as the Oozlum bird. Some are more scary and deadly! Though Glen Waverley is not as prone to having these animals find their way into the suburbs as those closer to the Australian bush, they do see their fair share. The Wildlife Service’s number is known as well as 000! They are equipped to take care of animals like the Yara-ma-yha-who, Tiddalick, and Drop Bears, as well as snakes, spiders, and the like.
Glen Waverley is about the last train stop from Melbourne heading that way. Like all public transportation, it’s not perfect. Sometimes it’s late, sometimes it breaks down, but it is cheap. The inner city has the Tram system that’s free to the public as well, no pass, card, or membership required! The trains have all been enchanted. When they were first put in, sorcerers were asked to put protection charms, efficiency spells, self cleaning charms, etc, on the trains. They are regularly updated biannually to keep up to code and working well.

First Responders and Mental Health: Suicide Prevention Month
By a former first responder
I know, it’s almost the end of September. But, September is Suicide Prevention Month. It is a touchy subject. Especially for first responders. I know we have all dealt with the general public and either suicide attempts or they’ve been successful. I can’t count how many calls I’ve dealt with that were either attempts or successful. They are so sad and its depressing. You often wonder if they had just had someone to talk to or if someone would have just noticed that something was “off” with them. I have had at least 2 where it was a complete surprise. One such incident, this older gent. He was so pleasant. He had called us to come get him out of the floor because he had fallen. We tried to get him to go to the ER. He finally said he’d go. So we transported. He had made statements like, his wife was out of town. He didn’t want to leave his home. We kept reassuring him that he was going to just go get checked out. He was okay with that. Fast forward to the end of my double shift. We got a call out at his home. I didn’t see the note that was attached to his door we went in. I went down the hall, calling his name. There was a single light on in his house. I followed it and it lead to his bedroom. He was laying in the bed. Wet lung sounds. I went to him and tried to get him to talk to me. I pulled back the covers and discovered a weapon. Come to find out, he had contacted 9-1-1 to get us to come out. He told dispatch to send us out because he had fallen again. He said we had been so nice. Once he hung up the phone, he shot himself. We had gotten to him to soon as he was still breathing when we arrived. The note that was posted to the door was to his housekeeper. He wanted her to clean the house before his wife got home. He had prepped. He made “as little mess” as possible. He used pillows to keep the “mess” at bay. He also carefully chose a “less messy spot” to shoot himself. He had a plan. I beat myself up over it. If only I had listened more closely. I remember that call so vividly. Truthfully, there was nothing I could have done. He had made his mind up. He only told us that he didn’t want to leave his house. I know that many of you have had situations like this. This was before the Critical Stress Debriefing days. I was stressed beyond belief with that call and a few other suicides. What a lot of the “higher ups” fail to realize that those calls can be just as tough, if not worse, than other calls like the traumas out there. That’s why we must look after each other. Speaking of each other, how many of us have lost a co-worker to suicide? Here is a statistic for you from cssr.Columbia.edu. It is the Columbia Light House Project. In more than 1,000 firefighters, they found that nearly 50% had suicidal thoughts at some point in their career! About 16% reported one or more (!!) attempts. What?!? Survey of EMS 37% had contemplated and 6.6% have attempted it! Wow! That is way to many! In 2020, per USA Today, 116 police officers committed suicide were as there were 113 LODD. Though the number of police, fire and EMSnumbers could be higher due to the STIGMA! In the same article it said that EMS/Fire had 127 suicides in 2020 and in 2017 there were 126. (usatoday.com/higher suicide rate police firefighters mental health) Yall that is way to many!! 1 is too many. We need to help each other and break this stupid stigma. Get help. It is okay to not be okay. There are so many programs out there. Let me tell you, you are stronger than you think. There are people out there that know exactly how you feel. You are not alone. It may feel like it. That one buddy that is ‘to busy’ to stop and talk, find another one. There are numbers to call. There are plenty of people out there that want to talk to you. Please, please reach out. You will be missed by someone!! You are stronger than you think. You just need to prove it to yourself. 9-8-8. Call it. I understand that the weight of the world could be on you. You need to call 9-8-8 and let someone help you relieve that weight. That burden.
I’ve talked about it before, contact your HR and get your EAP to give you some free sessions. Its confidential. If you are in South Carolina, contact us here at Choices Counseling. 803-851-4049. We would love to help you, to listen to you and give you some tips to ease you on your journey. If you are out of the area, please call 9-8-8 and get your local resources. EAP can help you find a resource as well. You don’t have to fight alone anymore. Please take care of yourself, mentally, physically, and emotionally. You are loved and someone out there would miss you terribly. By Marie B. Suicide Hotline: 9-8-8

Title: Embracing Freedom: Promoting First Boarding for Nudists on Airplanes and Buses
Introduction
In our ever-evolving society, the quest for personal freedom and acceptance of diverse lifestyles continues to gain momentum. Nudism, or naturism, is a lifestyle embraced by millions worldwide, fostering body positivity, self-acceptance, and a harmonious connection with nature. As we strive to promote inclusivity and break down societal barriers, the concept of first boarding for nudists on airplanes and buses emerges as an opportunity to advance the normalization of nudity. By creating designated spaces for nudists to travel comfortably and confidently, we can foster a more accepting world that celebrates diversity in all its forms.
Embracing Body Positivity
First boarding for nudists serves as a platform to challenge traditional notions of modesty and encourage body positivity. Nudism promotes the idea that the human body is beautiful, regardless of shape, size, or imperfections. By providing nudists with a designated space to board public transportation, we create an environment that fosters self-acceptance and allows individuals to feel comfortable in their own skin. This inclusive approach helps break down societal stigmas surrounding nudity and promotes body diversity as something to be celebrated rather than hidden away.
Creating Safe and Respectful Spaces
First boarding for nudists takes into account the need for safe and respectful spaces for this community to travel without fear of judgment or harassment. By designating specific boarding areas for nudists, we ensure that their privacy and personal boundaries are respected, creating an environment where they can feel secure and at ease. This approach promotes a culture of understanding, empathy, and tolerance among travelers, fostering a more compassionate society that celebrates individuality and diverse ways of life.
Environmental Benefits
Advocating for first boarding for nudists on airplanes and buses aligns with sustainable and eco-friendly practices. Nudism inherently encourages a deeper connection with nature and the environment. By allowing nudists to board first, we create an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable living and respect for the natural world. Furthermore, nudists generally require fewer resources for clothing, reducing the environmental footprint associated with textile production, washing, and waste. This approach aligns with the growing global movement towards sustainable living and highlights the positive impact individuals can make on the planet.
Promoting Social Progress
In a world where societal norms often dictate how we should look and behave, promoting first boarding for nudists is a step towards dismantling these expectations. It challenges the status quo and encourages society to embrace diversity, dismantle body shaming, and foster a more inclusive and accepting future. By advocating for the normalization of nudity, we create opportunities for open dialogue and education, helping to dispel misconceptions and prejudices surrounding nudism.
Conclusion
First boarding for nudists on airplanes and buses represents an opportunity to advance the normalization of nudity, promoting body positivity, respect, and environmental sustainability. By creating designated spaces for nudists to travel comfortably and confidently, we foster a society that embraces diversity and challenges societal norms. Let us strive to create an inclusive world where all individuals, regardless of their appearance or lifestyle choices, can be celebrated and appreciated for their unique contributions.
