Best BMW Performance Upgrades In 2022
BMW makes excellent vehicles with powerful engines. However, there may be a time when you desire a BMW with more power or a different driving style. Therefore, BMW cars undergo several BMW performance upgrades from time to time to improve the capacity of these luxury cars.
Tumblr media
The top additions for your BMW performance car parts are listed here. We don't include the BMW performance upgrades below in any particular order. We always advise taking your car to a BMW Car specialist for any BMW performance enhancements.
Major BMW Performance Upgrades
BMW ECU Tune
Software that modifies the factory parameters of your BMW engine is known as an ECU tune. It modifies the timing, fuel, airflow, boost, and gasoline to increase the horsepower and torque of your BMW. BMWs are known to respond well to an ECU tune.
It acquires a good amount of power because they are designed with performance in mind. Alternatively, you can purchase a tuning package for Stages 1, 2, or 3. You may buy a trustworthy software tuner for your BMW performance improvement in the UK called MTC Motorsport.
A BMW tune is the first improvement we suggest if you want greater power and torque. When having a BMW tune, we advise visiting a reputable auto shop for a dyno tune for your vehicle. The superiority of a street tune over a dyno tune is still disputed.
The Dyno tune, though, is typically a superior choice. Dyno tuning allows increased safety, higher torque and power gain, and more precise measurements. And this will consequently improve the performance of your BMW.
BMW Intercooler
Your BMW's standard intercooler may get heat-soaked. When your intercooler cannot sufficiently cool the charge air from the turbo, heat absorption takes place, which reduces performance. When you start to upgrade your BMW's performance, it can happen.
We advise replacing your factory intercooler with an aftermarket improved intercooler to address this issue. The engine will be able to cool the air and produce more power and performance with a thicker, more effective intercooler. BMW Intake System
Generally, a BMW engine's stock intake system is built to strike a balance between comfort and effectiveness. It is a manufacturer restriction made with the general public in mind. For ardent auto fans, nevertheless, this reduces the performance of your BMW.
Therefore, since a cold-air BMW downpipe feeds more air into a forced induction engine, improving output, we advise upgrading to one. To increase performance and airflow, we advise upgrading to a full BMW intake system that does away with the stock airbox.
BMW Suspension Upgrade
Suspensions are a fantastic performance modification that may boost handling, output, and even general driving comfort. This update will replace the shocks and struts on your BMW.
Thanks to BMW suspensions, you may change the compression and rebound dampening settings and the height of your BMW. Your BMW suspensions can be adjusted to maximize either performance or comfort, or you can switch between the two!
BMW Wheels
Tires are frequently forgotten when performance improvements are made. Unexpectedly, your maximum acceleration, maximum deceleration, and maximum cornering are all controlled by your tyres.
Tyres shouldn't be disregarded even though they appear like a simple modification. Changing your tyres has enormous potential to improve your car's appearance and performance. Depending on your vehicle, the terrain, and driving style, you'll need the best tyres for BMW.
BMW Charge Pipe
So far, the BMW B58 charge pipe has proven to be incredibly dependable. Only a few B58 owners have reportedly busted their charge pipes, and most of them were running high boost levels with modified turbos. The charge pipe is still made of plastic. But a significant distinction accounts for the increased dependability.
The charge pipe is connected to the engine and the intercooler on the N54 and N55 engines. The charge pipe would bend since it was attached to both a moving and stationary component, placing stress on the plastic and causing it to crack and shatter readily under high pressure.
Conclusion
Thus, you can see that minor BMW Performance Upgrades can change the capability of your BMW car and make it more competitive than the other vehicles. For buying efficient BMW performance car parts, visit the online store of MTC Motorsport.

New Post has been published on https://www.vividracing.com/blog/vr-tuned-ecu-flash-for-a90-supra-now-available-big-power-gains/
VR Tuned ECU Flash for A90 Supra Now Available! Big Power Gains!
Although there was a lot of initial skepticism about the new A90 Supra and the BMW B58 engine under the hood, it has since proven itself as an awesome chassis powered by a fantastic engine. While the B58 might not have the same notoriety of the old 2JZ, it’s a very strong engine with a massive amount of potential when modified correctly.
Toyota rates the A90 Supra at 335hp, but our independent dyno testing shows the actual power number is a bit higher. As a turbocharged inline-six, we knew the B58 had a lot of potential before we began our tuning process. Previous BMW turbocharged engines are well known for big power gains with basic modifications and the B58 is no different.
Our initial baseline test showed the Supra putting down around 310whp and 391wtq. Keep in mind, every dynamometer is different and they will all show different results for baseline testing. Once our baseline testing was complete, we removed the ECU from the Supra and flashed it.
Once the ECU was reinstalled, we put the Supra back on the dyno. With very similar ambient temperatures, the stock vs tuned tests were kept as close as possible to eliminate the possibility of incorrect numbers. With the new VR Tuned flash installed, the A90 Supra put down 372whp and 429wtq, representing power gains of +62whp and +38lb-ft.
Next, we mixed some fuel to create a 93 octane blend, which resulted in 381whp and 432wtq! Continuing our testing, we loaded an off-the-shelf tune file many A90 owners run through BootMod3. Peak power numbers between VR Tuned and BootMod3 off-the-shelf file are pretty close, however, our VR Tuned ECU flash has larger gains through low and mid RPM rev ranges.
Power:
Stock Power: 310whp and 391wtq
91 Oct Tuned Power: 372whp and 429wtq
93 Oct Tuned Power: 381whp and 432wtq
Peak power gains only tell part of the story. Throughout the entire rev-range, our VR Tuned ECU flash added a massive amount of power. The low-end and mid-range power gains help the A90 Supra accelerate off the line and out of corners much faster, resulting in much better driving experience.
With optimized fueling and ignition timing, overall fuel efficiency is also improved. On top of that, throttle response is also improved compared to stock! Overall, tuning is the best bang-for-buck modification you can install on any A90 Supra.
Features:
Improved Throttle Response
Works with additional modifications
Dyno proven gains

TEST DRIVE: 2019 BMW Z4 sDrive30i — No Straight-Six, No Problem
When it comes to the BMW Z4, the version everyone wants to know about is the Z4 M40i. It’s the first M Performance variant of the Z4 and it’s the one that famously shares its engine with the Toyota Supra. That engine is BMW’s excellent B58 3.0 liter turbocharged I6 engine and it makes a whopping 382 hp in North America. However, the version of the Z4 that seems to take a backseat, one that’s often forgotten by enthusiasts, is the new BMW Z4 sDrive30i. I’m here to tell you, though, that it shouldn’t be forgotten.
We recently attended BMW’s Test Fest in Palm Springs, California, at the wonderful Thermal Club. If you’ve never been to Thermal, you need to check it out. It’s basically a country club for rich car enthusiasts and it’s awesome.
While there, we were able to test several new BMWs, on both road and track, and one of them was the new BMW Z4 sDrive30i. While we were only able to sample it on the road, and surrounding construction limited our fun during the route, we drove it enough to understand that it’s a great little sports car that shouldn’t live in the shadow of its six-cylinder sibling.
Six-Cylinder, Who?
Let’s start with what the Z4 ’30i is. Under the skin, it’s essentially the same car as the M40i version, only it packs a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder under its hood. That little turbo four-pot might be small but it delivers a hefty 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, the latter of which being available between 1,550-4,400 rpm. So it has some serious punch, especially when you consider it only weighs about 3,200 lbs. So 0-60 mph is claimed to take 5.2 seconds. We wouldn’t be surprised if it actually cracked the high four-second range in real world testing, though.
Out of corners and when pulling away from a stop, the Z4 ’30i packs plenty of punch, more than enough to spin its wheels and make a bit of a scene. It doesn’t sound great but it’s not bad, either. It’s more of a generic angry turbo-four noise. It’s enough to make things exciting, though. It makes up for that with character, though. It pulls smoothly throughout its rev range and the eight-speed auto makes easy work of swapping cogs. So its acceleration and performance are more than enough to be fun.
Not Just a Pretty Face
Though, you don’t buy the four-cylinder BMW Z4 for straight-line performance. You buy it because you can live without the performance of the six-cylinder but still want a fun little roadster. And it is indeed a fun little roadster, don’t let its funny looks fool you.
On the move, the Z4’s steering is heavier than expected (though, it’s still relatively light) and very sharp. Even small steering inputs make the Z4 respond in kind and it feels lively. It’s far sharper than I had anticipated and it makes the front end feel very connected, very accurate. While there’s little in the way of actual steering feel, the front end responds exactly to its steering inputs and that allows you to lean on it, feel confident in it. So even without much actual feel, it’s a very accurate, very responsive little car.
Then there’s the chassis, which is very playful and incredibly rigid for a two-door roadster. To be honest, I didn’t sample it with the top up (why would anyone drive a Z4 with the top up in Palm Springs, honestly?), and I completely forgot it was a roadster. During my drive, the chassis felt so stiff and rigid that I never once noticed a single shimmy or shake. It’s that good.
I was also really impressed by its suspension setup. The car I was testing had adaptive dampers and even in its Sport mode, it never felt harsh or uncomfortable. When you consider that the roads around Thermal are horrific — filled with rough pavement and deep potholes — and that it lacks a fixed roof, the fact that the Z4 is actually comfortable even in Sport mode is seriously impressive. Despite being comfortable, it’s never soft or squishy, like the previous Z4. It’s a proper sports car and both its suspension and chassis feel firm and composed. So it’s impressively damped; full of composure but never harshness.
Prettier in Person
Personally, I think it looks great as well. While I didn’t love it in photos, seeing it in person makes a big difference. The car I drove was wearing Frozen Grey II Metallic paint with Magma Red interior and 19-inch jet black wheels. It looked like a proper sports car, both inside and out, and while sitting in it, it felt special. Though, the best color option is Misano Blue. There was only one available at Test Fest in that blue and it looked fantastic. If it were my money, that’d be my color.
While the inside isn’t much different than that of a 3 Series, it feels a bit more special. The seats adjust nice and low, so you can sit low enough to feel like you’re sitting on the ground and that’s what you want in a sports car. Despite sitting low, there’s still enough visibility over the scuttle (and I’m only 5’9″ on a good day), so it’s easy to see out of and place on the road. The seats are also very comfortable and supportive while looking great, as well.
Complaints? There are a few. While the digital gauges are the same as on all new BMWs, the actual screen is much smaller on the Z4 than it is on, say, the 3 Series. Because of that, they can be a bit tough to read while driving quickly. Thankfully, the brilliant head-up display can provide you with all the info you need. Also, some of the materials felt a bit less than stellar on the inside for a car that costs closer to $60,000 than $40,000. And for a pure, bespoke sports car, it should have a better sounding exhaust.
No Six-Cylinder, No Problem
Though, these are minor quibbles. The new BMW Z4 sDrive30i is a great little sports car and is already one of the best sporty roadsters on the market. We didn’t get much time in it but I can already say that it’s better to drive than any roadster in its price range that doesn’t wear a “Boxster” badge on it. And even still, I think the Z4 can properly challenge it. Do you smell a comparison test coming?

2020 Toyota Supra Performance: Horsepower, Suspension, and TRD
The European-market 2019 BMW Z4 and global-market 2020 Toyota Supra share the same BMW B5830M1 3.0-liter DOHC 24-valve twin-scroll single-turbo inline-six. It’s a proper straight-six tribute to the five previous Supras (six if you include the 2000GT) and a perfect successor. This aluminum engine makes 335 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm. Due to emissions regulations in Europe (started in September 2018), this version of the B58 engine includes soot-scrubbing gasoline particulate filters that result in higher exhaust backpressure and lower horsepower production.
There are no such particulate regulations (yet) in the U.S., so our free-breathing Z4 M40i will get the 382-hp B5830O1 version of the engine, which makes the same 369 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, our in-market Supra retains the EU filters and the resulting output. They both share the same ZF 8HP eight-speed automatic transmission with manual shift capability, spinning an electronically controlled clutch-pack differential between the rear wheels. There will be no manual transmission, at least initially. Although both cars feature a launch-control mode, the engine control unit, transmission, and differential are tuned to each manufacturer’s desires.
Expect acceleration to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.
As many of the best sports cars do, the 2020 Supra has a MacPherson strut front and multilink rear suspension with anti-roll bars. Aluminum control arms bolt to the front subframe, and a combination of aluminum and steel is used at the rear. Driver-selectable multimode dampers provide readily distinct settings among Normal, Sport, and Sport+ modes. Besides suspension damping, those modes also affect stability control, throttle tip-in, exhaust tone, gear changes, and steering weight/quickness. Toyota brags of the Supra’s 50/50 weight distribution and a low center of gravity—despite its upright straight-six.
At just 97.2 inches (a current 911 is 96.5 inches), the Supra’s wheelbase is 4.0 inches tighter than that of a Toyota 86. Front and rear track width (62.8/62.6 inches) are wider by 3.0 and 2.0 inches, respectively. The Supra-bespoke Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (255/35R19 front, 275/35R19 rear) are both wider and far more aggressive than those of the 86. So not only is the Supra’s footprint “squarer,” but it also adds 200mm (7.9 inches) in width of grippier tire rubber relative to its sporty coupe sibling.
When Stock Is Not Enough…
What about those folks for whom stock is not enough? Coetzee hinted we can expect warranty-backed TRD (Toyota Racing Development) parts, and maybe even a TRD Special Edition. “You’re going to see a number of parts available on the vehicle,” he said. “You may see some TRD parts. You may see some Gazoo Racing–branded parts. And I expect parts from the aftermarket, free of our support.”
Gazoo Racing was founded in 2015 to coalesce all of Toyota’s various racing programs under one virtual roof. MotorTrend’s bet is on Gazoo to be the performance upgrade for Supra. They campaigned a Supra race car last year as part of the car’s development. Besides, the 2020 Supra already has a GR badge, and there are or have been other Toyotas with GRMN (Gazoo Razing Meisters of Nürburgring) badging available elsewhere.
Whether the new-gen Supra might make a reappearance in the next installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, also expected in 2020, Coetzee couldn’t say. It would be a natural fit, and if it does land the role, let’s just hope the sticker package is better this time around.
The Supra is clearly important to Toyota, if not for Toyota. “We have rather modest volume expectations, in line with where we see the realities of the market for sports cars today,” Coetzee said. “Still, for us, we feel it’s important to do the vehicle and to be back at the game again. It has a special place within our lineup.”

New BMW Z4 Roadster fully declassified
For the premiere of the serial BMW Z4 second generation again not selected auto show, and the show of elegance in the California town of pebble beach — the same place a year ago and showed a concept version of the sports car. But that new Z4 conforms to the canons of automotive beauty is not obvious. On the one hand the Bavarians made a powerful Roadster with an abundance of memorable details — in the first place is a new BMW for optics with almost a vertical double “pupils”. In the style of crossovers X5 and X4, tapered rear lights, there are “gills” on the fenders and spoiler at the stern, and a soft convertible top instead of a hard benefited and silhouette, and practicality, because the trunk has more. But the current requirements for pedestrian safety no longer make a RWD car with a short front overhang and long rear. The new Z4 is wider and longer than its predecessor, but the wheelbase was a little shorter so the nose — that is, the front overhang is turned out so long. Although the long bonnet, is assigned to the rear axle of salon and half the weight still allow to consider the BMW classic Roadster.
Exact sizes will be announced in September during a full-scale premiere at the Paris motor show, but according to preliminary data, the length of the Z4 has grown by 80 mm up to 4318 mm, although the weight decreased by 45 kg to approximately 1550 kg.
The new Roadster with an index of G29 — the fruit of joint development of BMW and Toyota, but the Bavarians were responsible for all the hardware, so traces of Japanese engineering in the Z4 is not found. But the future coupe, Toyota Supra, on the contrary, will get much from BMW, including a platform with a classical layout and components. If you believe the journalists who have already seen the prototypes “setki”, the front part of this platform is unified with the two-door BMW second and the fourth series (i.e., with racks McPherson in the suspension) and the rear part is an adapted fragment of the chassis of the machines of the fifth and sixth series architecture CLAR.
At competition pebble beach new Z4 shows only M40i First Edition. Apparently, this is the most charged of the civil M-like version, which is armed with a row turbosystems B58 3.0 with a power of 340 HP And, from all the previously released cars with this engine the Z4 will differ by the presence of a particulate filter. Yes, the filter, trapping the solid particles are now needed and petrol engines to meet the future requirements of Euro Temp-6d, which take effect this fall. However, starting with July, BMW sets up these filters on all the cars and home of the German market.
In the transmission from the Z4 eight-speed automatic ZF with limited slip rear differential. The chassis is an electronically dampers. To 100 km/h M40i will accelerate in 4.6 seconds, and on the track, the Roadster should be faster than M2, but the line will appear and more modest versions with two-liter turbochetverkami, as well as a more powerful M version, with the “sixes” from M2 and M3/M4 power 360-380 HP In this regard, the BMW revolution is not preparing.
But in the cabin of the Z4 owners are waiting for just a difficult moral choice. The fact that BMW is abandoning its former style interiors and translates their car on the so-called “virtual cockpit” with an LCD instrument panel, hand-drawn scales like Chery Tiggo 2 and the reverse of the tachymeter scale.
In addition to the climate control behind the BMW X5 lost rotating handles adjustable temperature and found for a keypad. As well as a block of the control light to the left of the steering wheel. Even a joystick “machine” now the other. In short, the usual left only the wheel, pedals, buttons to select the radio station and detached the screen on the front panel. However, still a glimmer of hope that in the base trim, BMW will offer at least a traditional analog instruments.
For sure we will know it in the fall and tested in practice can only in the spring of next year when the second quarter BMW will start serial production of the new Roadster.
