⇨   He’ll admit... that got his processors to freeze a minute.  “ * ......... [nugget].  KID.  ARE YOU REALLY....... SINGING..... [Minecrap] SONGS AT ME? ”  He only knew that because he mentally searched the lyrics for a match, he is far too old and rich for minecraft, he swears! He vibrates as he tilts his head  a l l  the way, unnaturally far to the side, hands raised in confusion, but then it occurs to him to process what was being implied. He glitches back upright.

YOU WANNA BEAT THE [ Big Bad Big Shot ] LIKE IN ALL YOUR FAVORITE [ Let’s Plays ]..?      WELL TOO BAD!     I’M NOT JUST SOME  [ identifier: Hostile Mobile Entity ] ANYMORE !!! I- I- I’M  [ M O R E ] THAN THAT...  I WON’T LET THIS-- I WON’T LET THIS.... *kicks down the door* i have a new berdly headcanon. who wants it. jk that was a trick question you’re getting it anyway

the new art print was making me giggle because

it was a full pair of glasses the whole time. two different colored, different shaped lenses. he looks like such a little goofball i LOVE it. and i was going to call it a day but i kind of absentmindedly remembered that different colored lenses is one of swatch’s signatures so like... omg what if swatch gave those to him?

he (and noelle, i’m just assuming,) got a tour of queen’s mansion at some point and i kind of doubt it’s something queen would have given herself - just doesn’t seem like it’d be her thing. at most she probably just popped in on those screens to provide funny commentary, etc. soooo the task of giving these kiddos a tour would have been delegated to one of the swatchlings or maybe swatch themself

for the sake of this i’m going to say it was swatch themself ^^

so swatch is walking around the mansion, berdly and noelle trailing after them, and they’re showing off all the ins and outs of the place, all the shortcuts between floors, etc, and they’re mostly focused on giving the tour, only glancing back at berdly and noelle every so often, but they notice: my, isn’t the little blue one squinting an awful lot? and come to think of it, he does keep tripping over the rugs in the halls, and moving rather close to all the paintings, almost like he can’t see from an ordinary distance... the tour is paused momentarily.

swatch asks berdly if everything is alright, just because he’s been stumbling a bit throughout the tour, does he need a break...? a snack, anything? and noelle kinda glances over at berdly and she does a bit of a double take. she’s like, “oh, berdly, where are your glasses??” and he says, “i have no idea. but! fret not, my dear noelle, i am perfectly capable of navigating without them, you see, i will not be deterred-” and this kind of dissolves into one of his embarrassing little monologues, which swatch promptly interrupts, pardon their forwardness, and asks the two of them to follow them.

follow them where? ...supply closet. why does swatch have several pairs of multi-colored glasses? in the supply closet? details. can’t a bird(?) simply be prepared for any occasion and any outfit, omfg. anyway, swatch rummages around for a pair that matches berdly’s whole... get-up and of course they find one, because they are prepared for literally everything. and they give them to him! something something, magic, the glasses adjust themselves to whoever puts them on, something - it’s not a perfect match to berdly’s actual prescription, but it’s so much better

berdly is really shocked by the gesture and he kind of. reacts by trying to brush it off. he removes the glasses and tries to hand them off to swatch again, like, “o-oh. um. well!!!!!!!! your kindness is appreciated, haha, but i don’t really need these! i’m perfectly fine as i am.” (noelle is beside him, pinching his arm, saying, “oh my god berdly just take them!?”) and swatch just kind of smiles and responds with “i’m sure you are, young master. but i do insist, take them. it’d make me happy to see you with them.” and when berdly is still kinda like, looking like he’s about to reject the gift, swatch adds something akin to... “seeing you with them on really makes you feel a part of the family.” and this gets berdly to shut up finally. he looks at the glasses in his hands for a long moment, and he mumbles a quiet (genuine) “thank you.”

swatch says nothing. they lean down and take the glasses from berdly’s hands, and they set them back on berdly’s beak, still smiling. then they straighten and say, “well, let us resume the tour, shall we?” and they continue on like nothing had ever happened. berdly isn’t paying much attention for the rest of the tour, trying to process what happened - a kind, gentle adult noticing something was wrong, even though they had only known him for a few minutes, and taking the time to give him something that would help him, even a little. that sort of genuine care, and then patience, when he initially reacted with ungratefulness... he’s not going to get attached he’s not going to cling to swatch’s side he’s not going-

COUGHS i think the idea that the swatchlings kinda fuss over berdly because he’s also a bird and *parental instincts activating* is sweet. so let’s drag in swatch too... queen may be focused on noelle and she may not be particularly interested in stepping in as a parental figure for berdly the way he desires, but y’know what... he has someone who’s willing to take him under their wing after all :)
