Revisiting Twilight: The Twilight Renaissance

After a slow death since the 2012 release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 2, Twilight as a franchise has managed to make a resurgence in the public eye. Though the series began to see nostalgic success from 2018 onwards, thanks to a Netflix streaming deal, the release of Midnight Sun, and a global pandemic, 2020 appeared to be the year of the ‘Twilight Renaissance.’

Another large factor contributing to this resurgence in popularity is the dissemination of memes and other online content, particularly on platforms such as Tumblr and TikTok. Nowadays, though it is still largely female-dominated, the Twilight fandom is composed of a diverse range of individuals, from the middle-aged women and now-adult fans which long made up the original fandom, to more men, current young adults, and queer teens. 

One of the main staying powers within the fandom however, is a love of criticism for the franchise. As Sydney Dawson states in an article for Wired, “I don't think there's anyone more critical of Twilight than die-hard Twilight fans… I’m seeing elements in the books that maybe went over my head as a kid, like the ‘life begins at conception’ idea and the way Indigenous people are handled in the books,” (2023). Dawson, who wishes to conduct an ethnographic study of the series’ fandom, represents a new wave of fans who are critical of the series in a way which reflects but can still be differentiated from criticisms of the past. Just as both the series’ quality and themes have been examined in the past (Eate 2015), they continue to be examined in the modern day. 

However, the main point of difference is that it appears that many of these critiques are derived from a place of nostalgia and legitimate enjoyment. Other perspectives from the Wired article (Eakin 2023) clarify this. As Amy Taylor states, “It's things that were always there, but it took a while for some of the younger generation to catch up.” Natalie Wilson said that “We can read the books and enjoy the films and still question some of their messages.” Other articles such as Haley Johnson’s ‘I'll bite: Giving into the ‘Twilight’ renaissance’ (2022) and Jamie Khan’s ‘The Twilight Renaissance of 2020, the year it stopped being called lame’ (2020) reflect similar personal experiences.

As it stands today, the Twilight fandom is able to challenge many of the gendered-biases against it as a female-dominated fandom space. It is clear that though the franchise and it’s fans have been disproportionately criticised in comparison to their actual realities, that this fandom has since developed a much healthier culture of criticism.

Qatar Seeks Solution To Settle $11 Billion Debt By 2023

Qatar enjoys the status of being amongst the biggest LNG exporters globally, as it plans to become the largest natural gas provider by 2030.

Doha has allegedly approached international banks to negotiate refinancing more than $10 billion in debt due in 2023, according to Bloomberg—which received the information from three people familiar with the situation.

Officials at the country’s Ministry of Finance (MoF) are holding discussions with international banks regarding a “potential syndicated loan or bond sale,” according to the sources who chose to remain anonymous, as they are not permitted to announce the matter publicly.

They explained that there has not been an ultimate decision, as the government may either choose to refinance the debt partially or push the matter to a later time, since Doha enjoys “financial flexibility.”

Financial flexibility is best described as an entity’s capacities to react to unexpected expenses and investment opportunities. Organizations with robust financial flexibility are able both to endure difficult economic times as well as benefit from unexpected investment opportunities.

Bloomberg reported that a spokesperson for Qatar’s MoF noted that Doha did not have immediate plans to refinance the debt. The ministry “is always in talks with banks to assess market conditions for possible debt issuance as part of our normal liability and fiscal management exercise,” the spokesperson said.

Fiscal deficit 

Syndicated loan portions in the Gulf region exceeded a record of $113.5 billion in 2021, according to data assembled by Bloomberg, as sovereign and corporate issuers took the initiative to step in and benefit from the easy financing conditions and cheap liquidity.

Doha expects a fiscal deficit of approximately 8.3 billion QAR ($2.3 billion) this year at a supposed oil price averaging to $55 per barrel.

The country, which is one of the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) producers worldwide, expects gas—a cleaner alternative to oil and coal, to remain a significant and an integral element in the global economy for a long time.

As such, Qatar is spending an estimated $30 billion to bolster its LNG production capacity by approximately 50% in the next six years.

The Gulf state is arranging to release its first ever green bond this year as it intends on tapping into a “booming global market for sustainable debt.”

“It’s investing billions into clean energy in an effort to transition from being one of the top carbon emitters globally on a per capita basis,” Bloomberg added.

Qatar’s LNG capacity

In 2019, Qatar was the biggest LNG exporter worldwide, with total gas supplies reaching 110.2 BCM (billion cubic meters), according to data from S&P Global Platts Analytics.

Qatar currently has an LNG production capacity of approximately 77 million mt/year, but has plans to boost it to 110 million mt/year (metric tonne per year). It seeks to further advance this rate through its North Field East (NFE) and North Field South (NFS) expansion projects.

Times have changed and so has the media (BCM 110)

During lockdown, I expected my time as being part of an audience to be on hold until restrictions let up. I expected that due to the movies being shut that I wouldn't have the same collective experience I would usually have for a while. Recently a new show comes out on disney+  that was called Wandavision, there was one episode that aired every Friday, normally this wouldn’t be that big of a deal, id usually just finish an episode and go over the episode in my head and question or think about my favorites parts, this was a habit most people grow into I believe, that after seeing a movie with friends or family your mind immediately goes into bringing up the best parts as if your mind wants to save those emotions you felt at the climax of the show. Because of Covid I would usually finish the episode and feel dread knowing I couldn’t express those same opinions with my family, who all have very different tastes in movies and shows. I eventually got on the app known as TikTok and was relieved upon seeing all the people who were watching the show and talking about their theories and favourite characters and parts of the episode. I found myself having those same experiences just in a different way, much like most of the year I was having those experiences online rather than in person. The videos i saw on TikTok of people talking about Wandavision soon become my most anticipated part of my day, I looked forward after watching an episode and going on TikTok to see other's opinions on the latest episode. WandaVison was also had one of the biggest audiences watching it, bigger than another popular show at the time Bridgerton I think that having that discussion, even over social media, made it less isolating when experiencing something you enjoy. The media has always made its job to connect people easy and accessible and due to almost all of the world having to shut down and stay inside it made it more tempting to go on social media apps and interact with people. Everyone essentially ignoring the speech of "not speaking to strangers on the internet." As we all grew bored of staring at our walls. TikTok gave hundreds of thousands of people a creative outlet that connected us all together and we all utilised it best when we all needed it most.

I’m thankful that I could turn to TikTok to get the extra content I craved to see and hear about, I got to experience that collective, group experience all over again but with a much bigger audience, overall I would say the internet saved my sanity during this time and still does to this day, because of all these media platforms I get to interact and be apart of a community. Social media as a whole has continually grown and evolved to suit what humans need best, I doubt that anyone predicted that we would’ve become so reliant on our devices or our social media accounts but nevertheless I’m glad that I had social media to turn to during these current strange times we live in.

In the wake of the Kremlin's recognition of Donetsk and Lugansk, the US, UK, and EU promised more sanctions on Russia. However, these are not the tough measures they have threatened Moscow with for the past few months. Rather, they are comparable to the sanctions adopted by the West after Crimea's reunification with Russia, according to reports.

"The United States has declared the imposition of sanctions relating to the recognition of the two republics. But these sanctions are purely cosmetic", says Gilbert Doctorow, an international relations and Russian affairs analyst. "Europe is going to take some sanctions against individuals whom they say have played a role in these latest decisions by Russia relating to recognition. But that's also purely cosmetic. Serious economic consequences - I don't see any whatsoever".

Meanwhile, Berlin has frozen the certification of the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline, running under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany. The German Federal Grid Agency temporarily delayed the certification of the pipeline late last year. The agency told Sputnik that it has no forecast about the timing of the renewal of the certification of the Nord Stream 2 operator yet.

Despite the US trying to convince Germany to nix the gas pipeline, Berlin never promised to eliminate the project altogether, according to Doctorow. Nord Stream 2 is designed to deliver 55 billion cubic metres (bcm) of natural gas per year to Europe, thus doubling the original Nord Stream capacity to a total of 110 bcm.

"What happened [on 21 February] is quite minor in terms of an infraction of the Western-dominated world", says Doctorow. "So, I don't expect anything. However, what happened yesterday is only the first of many steps that will come as Russia seeks to get the capitulation of the United States and NATO to its demands of 15 December regarding the reorganisation of European security".

Kiev Left Donbass With Little, If Any, Choice

Russia on 21 February recognised the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) in response to calls to do so by the Russian State Duma and the DPR, LPR leadership as well as to Kiev's continuing refusal to follow the provisions of the Minsk agreements, struck in 2014 and 2015 and approved by the UN Security Council. The recognition came as the Ukrainian government had amassed considerable forces along the contact line with the two Donbass republics and ramped up shelling last week in a clear violation of the Minsk accords. The leadership of the DPR and LPR announced the evacuation of elderly people, women, and children to Russia. The OSCE reported over 2,000 ceasefire violations on the day of the two republics' recognition.

"Over the past eight years, Kiev has repeatedly infringed the Minsk Agreements in many ways, including the murder of the former prime minister of the Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko", says Joe Quinn, a Paris-based political commentator and author. "Kiev felt confident that it could flout the agreements with impunity because it believed it had the political, economic and military backing of both the US and major European nations".

Earlier, the Kiev government made it clear that it would not engage in dialogue with the DPR and LPR, which left the breakaway republics with little, if any, alternatives, according to British-Serbian political commentator Marko Gasic. On 9 February, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that Kiev would not adhere to the Minsk agreements on "Moscow's conditions", and would not engage in direct talks with the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, which constitutes one of the core provisions of the Minsk deal.

"Kiev does therefore look like it has forfeited any moral right to govern those people since it probably prefers to exterminate or expel them", Gasic remarks.

Moreover, it has been clear to any objective observer of the situation that Kiev and its Western allies "have always intended to retake the Donbass region by force if necessary", according to Quinn. If Kiev had its way, it would continue to harass the people of Donbass, the commentator notes, adding that in the aftermath of Russia's recognition the people of Eastern Ukraine will be shielded from Kiev's aggression.

"[Recognition of the DPR and LPR] put a stop to the hot war between the two republics, Donetsk and Lugansk, and the Kievan regime", says Doctorow. "It turned the conflict into what is called a frozen conflict, similar to what exists in Transnistria, with respect to Moldova, what exists in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, with respect to Georgia, nobody is fighting. Nobody is dying".

Donbass Independence is Result of US-NATO Actions

The unfolding Ukrainian crisis is the product of the US and its NATO allies' policies, according to the observers.

"Had Washington properly encouraged Kiev to reach an accommodation with the people of Donbass, then Moscow's declaration regarding Donbass independence and protection would not have been necessary, nor made", says Marko Gasic.

Under these circumstances, Russia's recognition of Donbass' sovereignty "has to be measured against the danger of doing nothing, a passivity which would clearly allow a real humanitarian catastrophe to unfold in the Donbass", according to the British-Serbian commentator. In addition to this, Moscow faced clear geopolitical danger posed by "the military intentions of Kiev's NATO puppet regime in its joint operations with NATO on Russia's doorstep", he notes.

However, the West's understanding of the situation is "limited", according to Gilbert Doctorow. He notes that the most surprising case is Germany and Chancellor Olaf Scholz's remark that Russia's warning of the ongoing genocide in Eastern Ukraine by the Kiev military and neo-Nazi battalions is "ridiculous".

While the US, UK, and EU are not listening to Russia's arguments, they can't go much further in demonising Russia, Doctorow believes.

"We've already hit bottom. But take Russia seriously? Yes", he says.

As for recognition of Crimea and Donbass, the US and NATO set a solid legal precedent when they recognised Kosovo's sovereignty and carved the region out of Serbia, according to Doctorow. The recognition of independence on the basis of the Donbass republics' popular mandate and the right to self-determination is a very strong legal argument, he notes. "[It is] very embarrassing for the United States to try to say no", the analyst concludes.

HĐQT Tổng Công ty Đầu tư và Phát triển công nghiệp - CTCP (Becamex IDC, Mã: BCM) vừa phê duyệt phương án phát hành tối đa 1.500 tỉ đồng trái phiếu riêng lẻ trong năm nay.

Việc triển khai thực hiện và phương án phát hành chi tiết được HĐQT giao cho Chủ tịch HĐQT Nguyễn Văn Hùng quyết định.

Đến ngày 17/11 tới đây, Becamex IDC có 4 lô trái phiếu với tổng giá trị 2.000 tỉ đồng đáo hạn cùng lúc.

Trong đó, các trái chủ bao gồm: Ngân hàng TMCP Đầu tư và Phát triển Việt Nam (1.080 tỉ đồng), Ngân hàng TNHH Indovina (500 tỉ đồng), Ngân hàng Liên doanh Việt - Nga (400 tỉ đồng) và CTCP Đầu tư và Phát triển Ngân Lực (20 tỉ đồng).

Trước đó tại ĐHĐCĐ thường niên 2020 diễn ra vào ngày 26/6, HĐQT Becamex IDC trình và đã được ĐHĐCĐ thông qua việc phát hành cổ phiếu cho cổ đông hiện hữu với tổng số tiền dự kiến thu về hơn 3.100 tỉ đồng, thời gian thực hiện 2020-2021.

Toàn bộ số tiền dự kiến thu được sẽ dùng để tái cấu trúc tài chính, bao gồm tất toán 4 lô trái phiếu nói trên và phần còn lại bổ sung vốn lưu động. Nếu các đợt phát hành trên diễn ra thành công, vốn điều lệ của công ty tăng lên 12.420 tỉ đồng.

Cũng tại đại hội, Chủ tịch HĐQT Nguyễn Văn Hùng cho biết, công ty đang gặp khó khăn về quyết định tăng vốn từ phía cơ quan Nhà nước, kéo theo tình hình tài chính của công ty cũng khó khăn, cụ thể là gây áp lực nợ và lãi vay ngân hàng.

Kế hoạch năm nay, Becamex IDC đặt mục tiêu doanh thu trên 6.000 tỉ đồng và lợi nhuận sau thuế 931 tỉ đồng, giảm 40% và 65% so với kết quả thực hiện năm 2019.

Trong ba tháng đầu năm nay, lãi ròng của Becamex IDC đạt gần 311 tỉ đồng, giảm 48% so với cùng kì năm 2019. Đây cũng là mức lợi nhuận thấp nhất (tính theo quí) Becamex IDC có được kể từ quí I/2018. 

Không chỉ giảm lãi mà dòng tiền của Becamex IDC cũng ghi nhận âm trên 96 tỉ đồng trong quí đầu năm nay, trong khi cùng kì dương 110 tỉ đồng.

Twilight and the 'Anti-Fan'

Although semiotic productivity is often associated with fandoms and fan culture, notably through means of textual production such as fanfiction and fanart, it is also true that all audiences of popular media will engage in some degree of semiotic activity (Fiske 1992). 

As such, it comes as no surprise that individuals who are less kind towards a particular piece of media or franchise will draw their own conclusions and respond in their own way to any given work. The ‘anti-fan’ can be described as somebody who is not necessarily against the idea of fandom, but someone who strongly dislikes a given text or genre (Gray 2003). This is an important distinction, as anti-fans can often be just as active as participatory members of fandom spaces, as those who identify themselves as fans. As Gray states, “hate or dislike of a text can be just as powerful… and [anti-fans] can produce just as much activity, identification, meaning, and ‘effects’ or serve just as powerfully to unite and sustain a community or subculture” (2005, p.841).

In her 2011 article, Jacqueline M. Pinkowitz discusses the concept of ‘excess’ in relation to the Twilight anti-fandom, specifically in relation to the late 2000s online community, the Anti-Twilight Movement (ATM), and how its representations of Twilight fans interact with the dominant cultural hierarchy. Through the group’s anti-fan behaviours, ATM perpetuated cultural notions regarding ‘high-culture’, ‘academic’ media, stating specifically that they were “protecting the name of literature” (2008). In doing so, the website highlighted the supposed inferiority of “the popular, the emotional, and the feminine” (Pinkowitz 2011). 

However, because the behaviour and media engagement of fans and anti-fans are similar, anti-fans such as those who comprised ATM can also be associated with the connotations of excess associated with fandom. 

ATM was aware of the fact that although it was rejecting Twilight's rabidly devoted fans, it had at the same time created an entire website dedicated to the Twilight books, inviting comparisons to the same rabid behaviour they intended to criticise. As such, ATM made attempts to convince site visitors of its lack of interest or investment—that ATM rejected the ‘excess’ displayed by Twilight fans and other anti-fans alike, aiming to position their critiques as inherently rational. On their FAQ page, in response to the manufactured question "Why do you put 90% of your energy into something you hate?", ATM wrote, "Ahahaha, 90% of my what? You obviously don't understand how fast (and easy) it is to make a website. We barely put any 'energy' into this." 

Pinkowitz also argues that the Ragemail page on their website would often be used to showcase Twilight fans at their worst, characterising critics of their community as petty and unsophisticated, traits typically associated with teenage girls. This allowed them to reject these “femininely gendered rabid fans” for their emotional volatility, youth, and perceived lack of education or intelligence (Pinkowitz 2011). 

ATM never reaches the levels of anti-fandom as demonstrated in Catherine Strong’s 2009 study of the Cracked forums, which observed that users saw Twilight, as “basically as close to worthless” due to its female target demographic (2009, p. 9). These anti-fans claimed that Twilight “sucks because it was written for teenage girls” (Strong 2009, p.9), a position not held by ATM, however they still perpetuated the placing of the feminine at the bottom of the dominant cultural hierarchy (Pinkowitz 2011). Similarly to phenomena such as Beatlemania, which was defined in part because it challenged the “then-prevailing ethos of teenage purity” (Pinkowitz 2011). The assertion of labels such as “rabid” or “manic” and the moral panics surrounding these majority-female displays of fan expression reveal societal anxieties about the mass-articulation of female desire, with the eroticized fan typically being depicted as female (Pinkowitz 2011). 

As a widely popular romance franchise, Twilight posed a threat because of its potential for the expression of female desire by its fans, and thus deserved to face similar descriptions of its fans as inherently irrational, in an attempt to police and restrict such expressions.

Fashion and its Horrible Advertising (BCM 110)

Advertisement is one of the best ways to expand your business and gain a wider client to sell your products to. The ad below has thin women in underwear promoting new clothes, nothing inherently wrong with that alone, however in big block quotes says “the perfect “body”” stating that the perfect body is only exclusive to thin women. A person's self image can impact them very heavily, especially if ads like these are exposed to younger girls who don't have the same body type as those women. There is nothing wrong with women showing love to all types of body types and sizes however only promoting thinner people in areas like fashion and health will only have negative impacts on people's emotional wellbeing. 

Body positivity is defined by the promotion of all body types. For years things like the fashion industry have defined the ideal beauty standard, they have dictated what weight, skin tone and hair type is most appealing. These things can and do have heavy impacts on young girls. Even the quote alone “the perfect body” has negative impacts, searching up that quote alone shows articles about what men see as perfect, there is a serious lack of representation regarding how women should see themselves. The fashion industry is predominantly run by men even though stereotypically fashion itself seems very feminine, having men in fashion is not bad but it does have impacts on what the consumers gain as the clothes are seen from a tone deaf perspective of the male gaze. The fashion industry in this day and age has made some improvements but still has some bias towards representing skinny models, Victoria Secret Angels for example still has the majority of the models being very thin. By promoting thin models above all else will only promote things like eating disorders and poor self image issues, this narrative only pushes that being thin will make you successful that if you want a modelling career you need to be a certain body type and if you do not fit in that certain weight gap that you will not be successful. Many young girls heavily believe that they can only reach happiness by being thin, the fashion industry, especially fast fashion pushes that belief by depicting their models as happy because they are thin. 

Overall the fashion industry needs to be more accepting and diverse to other people to be a more inclusive and safe space. Going back to the ad there is nothing wrong with speaking about body positivity until you only uplift one type of body that has always been the beauty standard, we need to build a more supportive environment for everyone within the fashion industry and most importantly stop advertising ads with these harmful messages.

Move To Water Lubrication Gathers Pace With X-Press Deliveries

The two Super Eco 2700 containerships China’s Zhoushan Changhong Shipyard is building for Singapore-headquartered X-Press Feeders have launched with a complete water lubricated propeller shaft arrangement supplied by Thordon Bearings.   CY Engineering, Thordon’s distributor in China, has now completed the installation and commissioning of the Thordon scope of supply aboard X-Press Mekong (Hull Number CHB085) and X-Press Pearl (Hull Number CHB084).

  Both MARIC-designed, DNV GL-classed vessels feature Thordon’s award-winning COMPAC propeller shaft bearings, bronze shaft liners, a Water Quality Package, ThorShield shaft protection coating and the company’s proprietary bearing condition monitoring system (BCM).   Due for delivery later this year, the vessels were ordered in 2018 with options for an additional two plus two.   Sam Williams, Thordon Bearings’ Regional Manager for Asia and Greece said that X-Press Feeders, the world’s largest independent common carrier with a fleet of more than 110 Panamax vessels, specified the Thordon system after operating a COMPAC-installed vessel acquired two years ago under a Sale & Purchase agreement.   “Based on their experience with the system installed aboard the 2018-built X-Press Kabru [formerly Washington Trader], which is based on the same Super Eco 2700 design, the owner specifically wanted the arrangement for its newbuilds. This is a testament not only to the success of the MARIC design, but also to the environmental performance and cost-saving benefits of a water lubricated system,” said Williams.   Indeed, a key factor in the shipowner’s decision to specify the arrangement was to further enhance a design already optimized for “clean shipping”.   Commenting on the vessels’ green credentials, Williams said: “With a hull form designed for maximum fuel-efficiency and reduced emissions, the move away from an oil-lubricated shaft to a more environmentally acceptable solution was a significant motivation. The experience the owner had with X-Press Kabru proved the COMPAC system’s operational and environmental performance but also showed that long-term operational savings can be achieved with water lubricated tailshaft bearings. A very cost-effective alternative.”

  X-Press Mekong and X-Press Pearl are the 4th and 5th ships to be built based on the Super Eco 2700 design to use Thordon's proven water lubricated system.   All the vessels in this series have been designed to meet DNV GL’s stringent tailshaft monitoring notation TMON, which means a water-lubricated shaft has the same extended shaft withdrawal inspection periods as an oil-lubricated system.    Terry McGowan, President and CEO, Thordon Bearings’, said: “X-Press Feeders has a clearly defined set of environmental sustainability standards, so we are delighted it has incorporated COMPAC into the design and build of these super eco-friendly newbuilds. The first COMPAC newbuilds in the X-Press fleet is a further indication of the container shipping segment’s commitment to improving the ocean environment.”   It does appear that liner shipping companies, in particular, are avoiding oil-lubricated propeller shaft bearings in favor of a seawater-lubricated system.    In 2015, Thordon inked a milestone agreement to supply the water lubricated bearing system to two 3600 TEU Jones Act boxships. And in 2019 the COMPAC-operating Log-In Polaris was delivered to a Brazilian shipowner. That same year China’s Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard delivered the final vessel in a series of two newbuild containerships to a Greek owner. All three of these vessels are based on the Super Eco 2700 design incorporating a COMPAC shaft line.   Commenting on the bearing systems’ popularity amongst Chinese shipbuilders, Alex Li, Managing Director, CY Engineering, said: “The Zhoushan Changhong Shipyard is well equipped to install water-lubricated systems. The Thordon system is one of a number of environmentally sustainable solutions now widely adopted across Chinese yards to meet environmental sustainability goals. About 40 shipyards are experienced with the arrangement and are enthusiastic about the COMPAC system.

Energia: Russia con Gazprom padrona del mondo

A breve #Gazprom annuncerà l'avvio delle forniture di gas liquefatto alla Cina tramite la pipeline "Power of Serbia". Con quest'opera la Russia si appresta a conquistare la leadership mondiale per quanto riguarda la distribuzione di energia, in particolare di gas liquefatto. Così come scrive la Bellomo su Il Sole 24Ore, la mossa russa tenderà a ridefinire lo scacchiere energetico globale. Le conseguenze maggiori le avranno in primis gli Stati Uniti ed in subordine gli altri distributori globali di gas liquefatto. Ad accelerare il progetto i dazi imposti da Trump alla Cina che  hanno indotto Pechino a rallentare  le importazioni dagli Usa. Altro fronte sono i rapporti l'Europa, dove Mosca è in continua trattativa con Bruxelles per le  nuove rotte di approvvigionamento al fine di penalizzare l'Ucraina e quindi, poiché il nostro gas passa da lì, anche l'Italia. Gazprom va avanti come un treno e fra pochi giorni  inaugurerà anche il #TurkStream, per servire i Balcani via Turchia e raddoppierà #NordStream  verso la Germania, grazie al via libera dato dalla Danimarca a passare dal proprio territorio. Le forniture di gas alla Cina, scrive Il Sole 24Ore, per ora  saranno limitate e arriveranno dai nuovi giacimenti "dedicati", in Siberia Orientale, senza inficiare le forniture dei clienti esistenti. I Paesi Ue acquistano dalla Russia volumi quasi quaranta volte superiori a quelli dati oggi alla Cina e il #NordStream da solo, una volta raddoppiata la capacità, potrà recapitarci fino a 110 Bcm l'anno. La portata del Power of Siberia è comunque destinata a salire di pari passo con lo sviluppo dei giacimenti che lo alimentano, fino a raggiungere 38 Bcm l'anno nel 2022-23, una quantità pari a quella che oggi #Gazprom vende all'intera Europa centro-orientale e ben superiore ai 22,7 Bcm recapitati l'anno scorso all'Italia. Mosca con 53 miliardi di dollari ha realizzato, in vent'anni, un'opera con cui dimostra di poter spezzare il cordone ombelicale con il mercato europeo. Prima del gas era stato il petrolio russo, una decina d'anni fa, ad aprirsi un accesso "sicuro" al mercato cinese, grazie all'oleodotto #Espo (East Siberia-Pacific Ocean), da cui oggi passano oltre 600 mila barili al giorno di greggio. Oggi la Russia ha scavalcato l'Arabia Saudita, per diventare il primo fornitore di petrolio della Cina con 1,5 milioni di barili al giorno. Mosca spera di riuscire a replicare la strategia con il gas. Gazprom  ha, quindi,  presentato a Pechino un piano per ampliare la capacità del Power of Siberia, ma è in trattativa  per la costruzione di altri gasdotti, compresa la cosiddetta Rotta occidentale o gasdotto #Aitai (da 30 Bcm), che dovrebbe attingere dagli stessi giacimenti usati per rifornire l'Europa. Gazprom promette che riuscirà a soddisfare entrambi i mercati attestandosi leader mondiale per la fornitura di gas.   Read the full article
