@bbtree ahem pls pardon the extreme self indulgence
Word count: 881 Pairing: Shallura
intimacy prompts
The hallways are buzzing with crew and cast alike but Allura manages to slip through mostly unaccosted. After this many years, the familiar chaos is almost soothing — an assurance that everything is going exactly how it normally does. She pauses to flatten herself against the wall as a gaggle of small children are herded down the hall by a harried-looking Antok before she finally reaches Shiro’s door and ducks inside. He’s sitting at the counter with his back to the door, but he lifts his gaze at the sound of the door opening and turns around to smile at her as she walks over. “It’s bad luck to see the groom before the wedding,” Shiro says, teasing. Rolling her eyes, Allura shakes her head and pulls her sweater closer over her chest Although the stage was always sweltering, the back of the theater is ever frosty. The cold creeps through the soles of her shoes and all her layers of warm-ups, chilling her. Shiro still wears sweatpants and his jacket, and fuzzy socks peek out over his running shoes. “And what kind of luck is it for partners to get married three times in the same week?” she asks.
“Well…” Shiro starts, standing and sliding his hands around her waist. “It depends on their reasons.” Smiling despite herself, Allura loops her arms around his neck. Already, diamonds sparkle in his hair and at the corners of his eyes like tiny stars brought down to Earth. He hasn’t finished his makeup, though, and his lips are still free of lipstick. “To entertain the masses in exchange for their money?” she offers, dry. “No,” Shiro protests. “It’s for art, for romance and beauty.” “Okay, Prince Bohemia,” she snorts. He laughs and slips his hands under her sweater to rest against her leotard, warm through the thin fabric. She takes a step closer until they stand toe-to-toe. “What, aren’t I supposed to be your prince charming?” he asks. “What happened with my roguish pirate from last week?” she teases. He leans close to press a tiny kiss to her mouth and pulls back. “It seems the people prefer a fairytale,” he replies.
Sighing, she sags back in his arms. “What a shame,” she says. “I prefer your old outfit.” A blush rises in his cheeks, pink against his skin. The other costume was — well, a lot less fabric than the tunic and tights that make up this one. Thought Shiro had voiced some doubts about it, neither the audience nor Allura had shared them. If she had her way, he could stay in it all the time. “You’re going to convince the costumers that we need it at home, aren’t you?” he groans. “Ooh,” she says, grinning. “What a good idea.” At his expression of dismay, she laughs and raises up on relevé to return his kiss. Consoled, he answers with pleasure and pulls her close until their bodies are pressed together. Her arms slide together and she lifts a hand to comb through the short hair at the nape of his neck. They won’t get up to much this close to show time, but like the muted chaos outside the dressing room door, this, too, is comforting. All of it — the heat of his body, the mint bite of his chapstick, the smell of old sweat mixed with baby powder in the room — spells out home without need of language. Wherever they are in the world, whatever company they stay with or theatre they perform at, this is a constant. Where he goes she goes, and where she leads, he follows. Onstage and off, this dance is the same. “Twenty minutes to curtain!” a familiar voice calls outside the door. They part only barely. The space between them is a warm contrast to the rest of the concrete room beyond, and neither is eager to leave it. Releasing one hand, Shiro lifts it to adjust her tiara, straightening it from where it had slipped out of the bobby pins’ hold. His hand trails down her cheek, the backs of his fingers light where they brush over foundation and blush. A finger hooks under the jewel-encrusted necklace laying over her collarbones and straightens that as well. It’s all an excuse, she knows: by the time she changes out of her warmups, a dresser will have resituated everything once more, and when they meet backstage they’ll surely give each other one last tiny once-over. Still, she’s not about to tell him to stop touching her. Behind her, the door opens. “I swear, if you two are getting lipstick all over each other again—” Allura laughs, pulling away from Shiro to turn towards Romelle. The blonde’s ponytail is already slipping loose, no doubt from the number of times she’s combed her hand back through it in distress. “That was one time, Romelle,” Allura protests. “One time too many,” Romelle retorts. “Now come on, you don’t make much of an Aurora in all those pajamas.” Snorting, Allura lets herself be pulled away to her own dressing room. As she goes, Shiro blows a kiss and she mimes catching it close to her heart before the door swings shut and she’s swept along through the busy hallway. They’ll see each other soon enough, when their fairytale begins.

Some Thoughts about the Fast & Furious cartoon series...
I was recently reminded by @bbtree about the upcoming Fast & Furious series by DreamWorks for Netflix, and they mentioned that Tim Hedrick would be working on it.
I referenced the F&F series deal in a post or two awhile back, that it was proof that something was going well between DreamWorks and Netflix in order for them to sign that deal. I was so focused on the business end of that and didn’t pay much attention to the creative team for the series:
“Tim Hedrick, who wrote for DreamWorks’ “Voltron: Legendary Defender” series, and Bret Haaland, who has produced DreamWorks’ animated shows like “All Hail King Julien” and “The Penguins of Madagascar,” will serve as executive producers and showrunners.” — Variety.com April 2018 [X]
That’s very interesting, and great for Hedrick. He’ll be an EP and show-runner on this series. That’s a wonderful follow-up and validation of his work on VLD.
Given the collaborative nature of animation and film, the line between writer, lead writer, story editor, and so on is generally unclear to me. That means that I can’t pin point what in VLD comes down to mostly Hedrick’s (or anyone’s) writing, and what comes down to his ideas but lightly edited, or his ideas but heavily edited, or his writing but with a lot of oversight/input/direction, and so on. It's hard for me to know what I like about his work, and what I didn’t like (if any), but I really like his run on the VLD comics with Mitch Iverson (Volumes 1 and 2).
Hedrick is one of the few of those involved to go back through most of (or all) of DotU, Golion, and other continuities, including the comics. [X] That earns a lot of points with me, because that’s a lot of effort. I appreciate the attention to detail.
I really enjoy the Fast & Furious films (even the less loved ones), because I love a good car movie, and the found family themes that are carried throughout the installments are done so well. They are enjoyable action movies with the right amount of fluff and feels that don’t distract from the racing and Cool Shit They Do With Cars.
Surprise, I love giant robots and cool cars.
I am still uncertain if I’ll watch the series, but knowing that Hedrick is an EP and a show-runner for it—right on the heels of his work on VLD—makes me more likely to check it out. I hope that the animation is great, and more like VLD or Young Justice, and less Cal Arts or 3D-CG (whatever that is called these days). There is a URL for the official website on Netlfix, but no images appear on the series page.
The series official title is: Fast & Furious: Spy Racers.
According to the Variety article: “In the series, teenager Tony Toretto follows in the footsteps of his cousin Dom when he and his friends are recruited by a government agency to infiltrate an elite racing league serving as a front for a nefarious crime organization bent on world domination.” [X]
Hmm. Sounds cool. That’s a good spin on the basic F&F concept. This infiltration premise is one I’d expect to see out of something like a martial arts film or a video game. I vaguely recall—during my childhood of playing any video game I could get my hands on—something like that as the backstory for a character from Street Fighter (sans racing). I think it was Cammy or C. Viper…one of them was an undercover agent trying to take down M. Bison’s criminal organization (which sought world domination).
Gotta say, that’s a heck of a thing: that VLD’s show-runners approached DreamWorks about a Street Fighter show, were handed VLD, and now one of VLD’s lead writers has moved on to be an EP and show-runner of a huge franchise spin-off series whose premise would totally work as a backstory for a character in Street Fighter. Life in the biz must be so strange.
EDIT/UPDATE: The Street Fighter pitch was made to Capcom, not DreamWorks. [X] I’ve read that it was DreamWorks in the past, but didn’t follow up for a source to make sure that was legit.

Re: A conversation with @bbtree and I
One thing I do wanna say is like, mistakes are OK. It’s EXPECTED. It’s not even like the people being rep’d are one monolith who will cohesively agree on what is good.
It’s when things stack up.
Even the best work and writer will still produce something, even if small, that can be taken as problematic. That’s the nature of art, both that it can never be perfect, and that no two people will ever take the same exact interpretations.
We live in a toxic society, and that may always reflect in art. So there has to be *some* degree of forgiveness, somewhere.
But it’s when art and media have instances that have stacked up. And THAT’S when its time to step back and analyze.
Like, I love tdp but even off the bat it *could* be argued that Harrow becoming a bird is racism. (If that’s what happened.) As poc, /especially/ dark skinned poc, there’s a lot of times the rep is stolen or skewed by the person becoming an animal.
But it’s the heart behind it. It’s the rest of the story that you have to take in before you can understand where the writers are coming from. (Cus it is dangerous to let ppl think rep has to be PERFECT, that bars people from trying).
As ling as rep is not for its own sake, that it takes into account what the people face in the real world, and either subverts it with informed nuance, or tactfully doesn’t address (but avoids the pitfalls of the stereotypes and harmful tropes by the writers pulling the strings in the background so that it doesn’t become a ”colorblind” world, but a ”color-rich,” ”color-saturated,” one), and not expoitative, then it’s something that needs to be taken with an open mind and discussion.
Harrow is amazing. He’s *gentle*. He could’ve come at the elves, sword drawn, which would be much like the Angry Black stereotype. But no. He took responsibility (as king. I mean we dont know who did what, who is at fault, but as king, well... it’ on his shoulders), which busts the Black Father Running from Responsibility. And also yknow, single dad. So he is both literally subverting that trope, and also in spirit subverting it.
So like all of those outweigh, at least for now, that one hiccup.
The Dragon Prince had already given me so much that I trust them. There’s always (unfortunately) room for that trust to be broken, but the handling of everything so far has been phenomenal. This team has been transparent, and they’ve listened to feedback (see: the animation ((which sidenote I actually ended up enjoying a lot. But, art is so interpretive))).
I trust a team of non-deaf people who specifically sought out a few deaf people/interpretors, to *make sure* General Amaya read as authentic. They even didn’t subtitle all of her signs, which was so amazing. My mom had said, ”I wish they’d subtitle that.” But I told her, ”No, that’s the beauty of it. How many times have deaf people not recieved translation?” And a lightbulb went off in her head. And we continued watching. That small moment brought her to an ”oh” moment, and that’s the power of it. Something we might have never gotten without the attention to detail and respect to the people she represents.
And those are just a couple of examples of what’s been accomplished in 9 episodes.

bbtree replied to your post “bbtree replied to your post “fucking life goals: get someone to...”
berserk is a shitshow. i really gotta re...read, huh, i nevr actually watched the anime of monster! mushishi i fuckin love. should def also see mononoke. i think i like movie anime better on balance tbh
TBh ive heard a lot of good things abt berserk but it seems complicated-historical, so not as easy to get into... The monster anime stays really really true to the manga (like most scenes are adapted almost word for word and madhouse did a fantastic job of maintaining the art style, god bless) mushishi is REALLY GOOD! The mononoke narration style actually reminds me a lot of mushishi in that it follows the mysterious mc whose past is only barely revealed as he banishes different mononoke... like how ginko treats different mushi~~ movie anime is good! It’s shorter too :D
