I am going to fight everyone who has turned Sherlock Holmes into this edgy, rude, arse of a character. This man is kind, caring, sympathetic, and knows how to interact with people (even if he'd prefer to avoid doing so).
I get the whole genuis-who- can't -relate- to -the -way- normal -people- function, but y'know what, he's not condescending about it. He doesnt necessarily think himeself to be above the masses. He admits to being beaten without throwing a tantrum about it.
Being a genuis doesn't mean or necessitate being cold and unfeeling

American to English translation for fic
So I read and write fanfic, as do lots of others, and I've noticed that when it comes to British shows or movies, Americanisms or American terms crop up often. It's mostly because most don't know we have specific terms for things in the UK, and I've seen references here and there before, but I've decided to write one of my own. Feel free to add to it tho! I'm gonna put it up on Ao3 too and any additions, I'll reference the tumblr and link them on Ao3 too.
AO3 link is here!!
Anyway, here we go I guess.
Some Americanisms to English-isms
Gas = fuel/petrol/diesel (we tend to specify the type of fuel the vehicle uses, diesel vehicle or petrol vehicle for example)
Gas station = petrol/fuel station
Gas court = petrol/fuel court, or sometimes forecourt (not often with this one tho)
License plate = registration plate/reg
Diner = cafe
Fast-food = takeaway (this is sort of interchangeable. McDonald's is called fast food, a meal from a pizza place that delivers is takeaway)
Motel = hotel
Side-note: We tend to use specific named hotel chains like Premier Inn (or Prem-Inn for short) or Holiday Inn or Travelodge. We also have Britannia Hotels and several others. If the fic is based in a specific place, local hotels or famous ones may be better options. For example, in Liverpool, we have The Shankly or Adelphi.
Cab = taxi or black hac for a specific type of taxi.
Side-note: These are what you see in BBC Sherlock, for example, and are a UK staple. They're less popular or common-place nowadays but there are dedicated taxi companies that use them. There's on in my town that operates until 4pm each day. They are also usually more expensive than a car taxi but they have oodles of space and you can have a pram/buggy kept upright rather than folded-down in them which is brilliant.
Cop = police officer
Side note: more informal, colloquial terms include "copper", "the fuzz", "tit-head" (because of the nipple hat okay, just look up the hat, it's hilarious), "bobby", "rozzer" (pronounced r-o-z-er not Row-zer), and "the bill" (there's an actual show called this btw. It can be a good reference for anyone writing crime fic in UK). There's more but those are the most common. Older terms do include "peelers" and "old bill".
Second side-note: the police have a whole host of terms, colloquial and slang that can be a great thing to include in fic, which I'll link a glossary of here. It's not all UK centric but cross-country policing is a thing so that may just be a boon imho. Also the short-hand acroynmns used are useful so here's a link to the Metropolitan Police glossary of those too!
Patrolman = constable or police constable
Antenna = aerial or TV aerial
Fall (season) = autumn
Bill = banknote or specifically "tenner", "fiver", "twenny" (not "twenty"). We don't have single banknotes like a dollar bill. We have pound coins
Dimes, nickels, etc = pound coin, two-pound coin, fifty-pence, penny, two-pence, five-pence, ten-pence, twenty-pence (link here about the coin currency)
Drug store = chemist or pharmacy
Optometrist = optician
Primary care physician = GP (general practitioner) here's a link about UK medical terms for doctors etc
Side-note: here's a link about medical terminologies etc between American and UK
Social security number = national insurance number
Liquor store = off-license or, specifically, Bargain Booze™
Liquor = spirits (usually)
Store = shop
Target, Walmart, etc = honestly, it's probably gonna be Tesco, ASDA, Morrisons, ALDI or Lidl
Superstore = supermarket
Shopping cart = shopping trolley or just "trolley"
Yard-sale = car-boot/car-bootie/car-boot sale
Attorney = barrister or solicitor (solicitors you go to for legal help, barristers tend to be involved in actual court matters, like a the Crown Prosecution Service), here's a link that explains it better
Janitor = caretaker
French-fries = chips (although McDonald's French-fries are just that, French-fries)
Intersection = crossroad
Highway/freeway = motorway
Interstate = usually an A-road or a motorway, we don't really have interstates here)
Overpass = flyover
Turnpike = toll motorway
Windshield = windscreen
Trunk of a car = boot or car boot
Hood of a car = bonnet or car bonnet
Truck = lorry
Sedan = saloon car
Blowout = puncture or flat tyre
Pavement = road
Sidewalk = path
Subway = underground (like the London Underground)
Drapes = curtains (though we do use "drapes" we tend to say "curtains" more)
Pacifier = dummy or "dodo" or "dodi"
Diaper = nappie or a pull-up (if its like underwear for toddlers)
Baby crib = baby cot (though we do use "crib", we tend to say "cot" more)
Baby carriage/pushchair/stroller = pram or buggy (more specific type tho, here's a link about the differences)
Trash/garbage can = bin, dustbin, rubbish bin
Garbage/trash collector = binman/binmen
Mail = post
Mailman = postman
Mailbox = postbox
The movies = cinema or pictures
Movie = film (less common nowadays with influence of Americanisms but I still use "film" and a lot of people my age and older do too (25+)
First floor = ground floor okay, it's the ground floor because it's on ground level
Sneakers = unless they're Converse, it's probably just "trainers"
Baggage = luggage
Purse (as in the bag) = handbag, or "purse" but that tends to be the thing you put your money and cards in then put in your handbag
Vacuum cleaner = hoover or a specific brand like Henry Hoover™, which you'll find we tend to just call Henry (though I have a John Lewis hoover I got from George, ASDA that I've named 'George' and yes, I do say "I need to use George in a bit to hoover" regularly)
Sweater = jumper or, if it buttons up it's a cardigan or cardi
Closet = wardrobe
Elevator = lift
Call collect = reverse charges
Schools = we have primary/infants (11yrs)and secondary/high school (11-16yo) with some high schools have sixth-form college (16-18yo) or actual independent colleges for the same ages
College = university
Semester = term
Vacation = holiday
Kindergarten = nursey/reception
Flashlight = torch
Wrench = spanner
Backyard = garden
Cookie = biscuits
Chips = crisps (like Walkers™ or Lays™ in the States)
Pants = trousers
Cottoncandy = candyfloss
Dude = bloke/fella/mate
John Doe = John Smith
Exhausted (tired) = knackered
Cell phone = mobile
Cell data = mobile data/4G/5G
Bathroom/restroom = loo/toilet (informal term "bog")
Thanks = cheers
Soccer = football
Y'all = "you lot"
Fuck off/hit the road/go away = bugger off
Some slang phrases too
Bits and bobs = stuff, usually random
Take the mick/mickey = making fun of someone or over-exaggerating
Bob's your uncle = there you go, basically
Bog standard = typical, run of the mill kind of deal
Gutted = feel upset, disappointed
Dull as dishwater = basically really, really fuckin boring
Chinwag = basically "shooting the breeze" or just having a talk/chat
.
If you have any others that you think of or want added, reblog and add em! Tags too if you'd prefer but reblogs would be easier ☺️

Hi Steph ! I do realise you get an enormous amount of requests, but I hope you'll find time to answer mine. I hope this hasn't been answered before ?
What are, in your opinion, the most in-character, and BBC accurate Johnlock fanfics you've ever read ?
I'm currently looking for something very canon-compliant, and I'm having a bit of trouble. Any length and rating will do !
Thank you for everything you do ! Your work for the Sherlock (especially johnlock/TJLC) has always been quite remarkable :)
Excellent day to you !

Hi Lovely!
Thank you for your kind words, it's much appreciated!!!
As for in-character fics, I should state here that "in-character" is subjective to each individual, so my idea of "in-character" will be different from other people's!
That said, any of my fic recs on any of my Fic Rec Lists that aren't appended with MFL (because I haven't read them) could be considered what I call in-character, LOL. BUT if you want some of my faves, these will be the ones to start with:

So, I was thinking about different fandoms and the fics that I love. What makes a good, satisfying fan fic? I realize it has 100% to do with the canon.
Take BBC Sherlock. I struggle so much with AUs where their beginnings are different. Sherlock is an astronaut, assigned to work with scientist John. (This is an example, not a dig at any specific fic). I can't. I can't. I realize BBC Sherlock is also an AU from Doyle, but BBC Sherlock and John are so fucking tied to "A Study In Pink" and John handing his phone to Sherlock that everything else seems false. Fun premise, but not the Sherlock and John I know.
A satisfying Johnlock fan fic needs to change the ending of the BBC canon. To think of these two men, who love each other so much, just continuing their parallel existences, never becoming anything more than crime-fighting buds, is just. . . it doesn't fit. It doesn't fit the show. It doesn't fit the characters Moffit and Gatiss created, even if they decided to not make it happen (as a special 'fuck you' to their fans). It's heartbreaking.
My favorite fics are fixits -- many of them deal with the aftermath of Euros and Mary, or some do "canon intercepts" and deal with Seasons 3 and 4 differently. Still, anything but John and Sherlock raising Rosie together as partners/lovers/husbands in 221B with Mrs. Hudson downstairs feels like a lie. (Some canon intercepts write out Rosie completely.)
If I had to write sequels to BBC canon, I'd pick "Drawn to Stars" by @totallysilvergirl or "Never Turn Your Back on the Sea” by @discordantwords . There's a thousand other ones, but those ring the most true to me.
"Heartstopper" fics don't have a lot of room to mess with the ending. Anything other than Charlie and Nick happily growing old together is so far out of canon and out of character that it doesn't even seem like it's worth exploring. There are a handful of ones that have one character or the other dying, but mostly, we understand right away that Charlie and Nick are endgame. We are 100% aligned with canon and creator on this.
Anything that isn't true to this ending rings as false as anything that isn't true to Sherlock's beginning. Fun to read, but not our characters.
With Nick and Charlie being so young in canon, their beginnings are so much malleable. Sherlock and John are tied to that lab. Nick and Charlie? not so much. They meet in grammar school. They meet in University. They meet after a hot hookup at a club in their 20s. They meet after broken marriages to Imogen and Ben. They meet during Nick's rugby career or as fellow teachers. They meet at gyms, at animal rescues, at psychiatric hospitals. They are single parents, University professors, rock star drummers, hot shot authors and academics. Their beginning isn't fixed. But the end always is.
I have so many favorites but I just re-read "Lavender Fields" and I think it's a perfect Nick and Charlie meeting up in their 30s fics. There's a ton of University fics too.
I haven't read nearly as many fics from other fandoms, so I don't know their quirks. I'm finding that fandoms that don't have a m/m pairing are hard to find a lot of fics for. (That's a whole 'nother post). But other m/m fandoms seem to have canon-compliant extra scenes. (Wanna see Achilles and Patroclus get freaky in a tent somewhere? Here ya go. That being said, there's one about Achilles waiting for Patroclus in the Underworld that breaks. my. damn. heart.)
Anyways, I need to do a serious look-through of other fandoms to see how this plays out.
I should add the links here to the fics I mention, just because.

Misconceptions of Sherlock and Co
Here I am going to list some misconceptions that I saw before getting into Sherlock and Co that I felt need to be corrected for any new people trying to listen. The things listed might be dubbed critiques. If you are someone who does not like criticism on your favorite pieces of media, please show yourself out now.
Johnlock is endgame
I beg every Sherlock lover who love the stories in every variation and specifically Johnlock, please stop setting yourselves up for disappointment. Unless it is explicitly said, don't believe it's canon. The reason why I say this is when this podcast first started to come out, everyone said johnlock was going to happen. Those are some of the most popular tiktoks about Sherlock and Co. And I won't lie, it was the push that made me listen to the podcast. I can't find where I saw it please if you can find it, send it to me. They said, the creators, that wasn't within their plans. John and Mariana though? I don't know if it'll actually happen, but it just feels like that's what they're pushing towards. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but the name Mariana is a lot like Mary. Speaking of Mariana--
It's just John and Sherlock
It may appear like that for a couple of episodes, but Mariana becomes an essential part of the team and she is here to stay. If you were one of the people who just wanted the boys, you're probably going to be disappointed because that is not the case here. Mrs. Hudson whose real name is Mariana also helps in solving crimes. Usually I would say if you didn't like Molly appearing in episodes, you also might not like this. But Mariana actually has some type of depth. So maybe you'll actually enjoy her appearances in episodes.
These Are New Interpretations of Sherlock and John
Yes and no. This might be controversial, but it didn't feel new. And it didn't feel like ACD's characterization. John and Sherlock's characterizations seems like they took a lot of inspiration from bbc Sherlock even down to some of the mannerisms especially the way they speak. It feels almost like fanfiction where they took the bbc Sherlock character interpretations of John and Sherlock and put them in an alternate universe. Over time though, they seem to be straying and they're now becoming their own characters. But if you told me at the beginning, "oh this is a new podcast based on bbc Sherlock fanfiction" I would've believed it.
POC Friendly
LOOK LISTEN, I'm not saying they're spouting out slurs. But someone, a white person, posted this is a poc friendly podcast. When I heard that, I assumed certain things. I assumed they had POC cast and crew, they had sensitivity writers, cultural consulting, etc. The cast and crew, respectfully, are majority if not completely white. I remember looking up Sherlock's voice actor after seeing all the fanart and I was so confused seeing a white man. Now this doesn't mean that POC should run away from it, but this does mean that when they say/do certain stuff there's no one to tell them "hey maybe let's not do that." There are instances that felt ignorant and unnecessary. In the Blue Carbuncle, they read a letter or a transcript from someone who saw an incident in the street (avoiding spoilers). I don't know how to phrase this, but it felt very much like they were mimicking some type of POC (most likely black). And they didn't put on a blaccent or anything, but just the fact that it was a white writer writing this making fun of how they spoke rubbed me the wrong way. And it went on far too long. Then there was Sherlock bowing at an Asian restaurant and John told him it was inappropriate, but I was stuck on why was it added? It wasn't humor and didn't have to do with a case. It shows Sherlock's ignorance, sure, but it just really didn't add anything. When it comes to content made by white british people, the bar on racial awareness for me is to the ground. I don't expect them not to have ignorant moments. But stuff like that, it is something that should be accounted for when you try to say something like it's "poc friendly." So would I say POC friendly, not really. Is it welcoming of everyone no matter what race or ethnicity? Yes. There's not a sign on the podcast that says POC do not enter, but be aware what majority demographic is a part of this and that they probably are going to say stuff out of ignorance.

I've been meaning to write this post for awhile, but I haven't gotten around to it. Plus, I wanted to see if anything else changed before I made a post. I genuinely don't see this as critiques just pointing out stuff for those who might go in thinking this podcast is something it's not. But I still put the criticism warning for people who might not want to see this. I really enjoy this podcast and it inspired me to read the original stories. They put a new spin on these stories that's modern, different, and still entertaining.

"Ugh, I said no" y/n said on phone annoyingly before hanging up. Sherlock was stunned to see her in such a mood. His roommate, or rather little roomate is always childish (like him) but what caused her to be annoyed. He calls her little roommate because she always acts like a baby and was also quite younger than him.
"What's wrong little...." Sherlock was about to say his favourite nickname for her but y/n stopped him.
"Don't you dare say that, I'm very mad."
"I just wanted to know what's wrong" said Sherlock.
"Ugh, this fucking guy friend of mine want's to hookup with me"
"Oh" said Sherlock as this topic he tends to avoid cause he's way too ahead of this, "so what's stopping you."
"I don't want to" snaps y/n
"Wait wait wait, don't tell me it's Chris" Sherlock asks now, he's now perfectly invested in solving y/n's case.
"What... How do you know that?" Asked she.
"Oh because when you received the call you were happy and when he talked of hooking up you were annoyed, you totally have a crush on him but you may not be ready for sex and it's totally fine." Said Sherlock.
"No I can't hide a thing from you" y/n snapped again.
"Mmmm no you can't" said he and gave a mischievous smile, which said 'i'll always win'.
"But it's not that I'm not ready." She started to explain.
"So?" Sherlock enquired putting his laptop down.
"I don't want a casual hookup, I can only sleep with someone I love, and also..."
"And also?" He asked.
"Nothing but yeah just casual hookup ain't my thing."
"Hmmm... What kinda men do you like though." Asked Sherlock and this did the trick. She blushed and looked away, Sherlock always noticed how she'd stare at him when he's inside in his house robes, how domestic, he noticed she'd stare at his long fingers and there's something about her blush when Sherlock is to close to her. He knew she might like him. But he was too older. Over ten years, so he preferred to keep it platonic, but he knows the truth, when she comes out of the bathroom wearing a bathrobe, water still dripping from hair, it does makes Sherlock stare too. When she watches herself in the mirror and wears lipstick, winks at her own reflection Sherlock does stares then as well. Y/n thought before answering him, "i don't think I have a specific type but if I have sex, I'd want someone who'd care for me because...."
"Because?"
"I don't know anything about it honestly." She admitted. Sherlock got up and said, "sit here little...."
"No, not that name". She warned.
"Okay, come sit we'll discuss about this Chris guy."
She sits on his couch and takes her phone in hand. When He suddenly came close to y/n. His face very close to her, she liked it. She even blushed furiously,
"Wh-what?" She asked softly.
"Nothing just... wanna taste my cupcake." He replied seductively.
Slowly he pressed his lips on hers. She returned the the kiss. She knew how to kiss thankfully but the next thing was new, Sherlock slipped a tongue inside her mouth and so did she. She cupped his face and enjoyed their tongues dancing. Then His lips went from her lips to her soft cheeks and then neck and collarbone, no one ever visited those places. Her whimpers and gasps reflected her inexperience. She caught his back and the upper arm tightly as his hand went to touch her delicate soft thighs, then to upwards.
"Sherlock" his name came out as whimper as he touched exactly where even she herself never did. Sherlock lifted his face from her neck and enquired with baffled eyes, "you never touched yourself?"
In reply y/n could only shake her head. To this, Sherlock gave a mischievous smirk. And his hand slide inside her panties to touch where she needed to be. Her eyes closed in pleasure and in embarrassment. Sherlock exploring her. The places of her body which no body ever has. His fingers touched her slit and the clit. She couldn't help but whimper softly.
"You're wet, so wet." Sherlock said, rather whispered.
"I've never been... Ah touched like this before". Y/n replied.
"Good" he whispered to her ear, intentionally so his voice send shivers down her spine. He rubbed his finger against her clit. This was enough for her to moan. She gripped him tightly almost her small nails as if it would dig in his flesh making holes in his coat. "Oh fuck" she moaned followed by a hum. Her innocent child like face making such sounds? Sherlock may have been more turned on by her helpless state, her innocent face. She was absolutely inexperienced when it came to sex.
"I never knew you make such sweet noises" teased Sherlock.
"Neither do I." She replied rather whispered between her pleasure.
As she grew more wet he took this opportunity to slide his finger in her. This was new to her too. A sudden low scream came out of her mouth.
"Shhhh don't let Mrs Hudson know". Said he. And started to finger her. She rolled her eyes once he got the rhythm, in pleasure.
"You like it little cupcake?" Asked he . She could hardly talk back, yet tried and said, "don't stop please". Looking at him with her puppy eyes, Sherlock wouldn't admit but he was a sucker for that baby face and her puppy eyes.
"I don't intend to." He replied and fastened his speed.
"Keep doing what you're doing, please Sherlock." She pleaded.
"I got you". He fingered her harder until he felt she was close and came all over his finger. He held her and she panted for her first time experiencing something like that.
"This is how you do it." Sherlock said with a smile. A smile which had care and mischief both. To this she needed to reply to her detective. She turned and smirked. Her confidence grew alot after this so she said,
"Maybe you can teach me something more."

Before we start
I feel like I need to make a pinned post to introduce myself before I go on further with 'crying shaking throwing up' posts. So. Here it is!
You can call me R. I'm a '96 baby, not in the sense that I'm actually a baby but in the sense "you CAN and should do the math" because I know this blog will be updated so sporadically I'm not gonna update my age. Right now I'm 28, but you could be reading this as I'm approaching my 30s.
Three things about me: I'm haunted by Sherlock Holmes and the ghost of johnlock, I'm a TS scholar in the sense that I've been listening and reading and analysing her shit since i was at the ripe age of 13 years old, and all this should lead y'all to understand that I'm both a tinhatter and a deeply skeptic person. I have trust issues AND I like making theories, is that so bad?
Now, how the fuck did I end up here?
Imagine: it's the year of our lord 2024. I've been away from the 1D fandom, and the Larry fandom even more specifically (I was a lurker) for almost ten (10) years.
I used to lurk in Larry spaces between ?I think late 2011? to 2014. You can imagine what kind of fun year was 2012 to me. (Haylor is still, to this day, my Roman empire.)
Back in the day, I was a bit gullible (not to the point of believing the reborn dolls shit, sorry), so my thoughts in the last ten years have always been "well I don't know what actually happened between them: maybe they were, maybe they weren't" because i was Young (15 to 18) and not from an english speaking country and I probably missed a lot of nuance, and i didn't have the tools to analyse that stuff critically.
I didn't even listen to their albums unless a track was sneaked into my Spotify algorithm. And even then, I didn't pay that attention to lyrics or anything.
I'm blissfully ignorant, and I know I'm happy.
Fast forward to last month: the clock app (we all know the one) recommends me a video with Love of my life (as a TS scholar I cannot shorten it for fear of confusing the two). I'm like: huh. Inch resting. Let's hear the whole song. Oh, it's about "England"? I did not know an entire country could take a plane! Welcome back Sherlock from the hit BBC serie saying he missed "London" while talking about John, I guess?
Now I'm being silly goofy, but that kind of shocked me deeply to my core. Because like, okay. You're a songwriter and you're a DramatiqueTM songwriter at that. But. You WERE the love of my LIFE when you've barely reached a quarter of your life is objectively insane. That's something that has left a mark on you. And somehow I deeply doubt it's about one of his highly public relationship with one of the "blue eyed models" that Blondie was talking about.
So I started to dig into their songwriting catalogues, and boi oh boi. My frontal lobe is fully developed (hopefully), I have little to no parasocial relationship with two guys who I haven't looked for in the last ten (10) years, I'm an adult with a job and a degree and a second one on the way, and yet my first thought reading their lyrics was "oh, you guys are still both at the fucking restaurant, huh".
And now, here I am, with a new sideblog because I can't inundate my friends' dashboards with stuff we all agreed we outgrew ten years ago. I know I made this introduction so easily recognisable my friends could see it's me from a mile away. If you end up here, sorry for the war flashbacks! I love you!
I hope you all can enjoy your stay as I rediscover old Larry stuff, find out what I've missed in the last ten years, and generally comment on the state of whatever these two are doing.

Submission message for Sherlock and Moriarty: BBC Sherlock and Moriarty
Submission messagefor Charles and Erik: Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr (aka Professor X and Magneto) from anything X-Men
Additional propaganda: Sherlock is literally the page image for the Wikipedia page on Queerbaiting. Also, it's Aromantic Day of Visibility so I'm here to remind you that any straight depiction of Sherlock is erasure and queerbaiting of one of the greatest aroace characters in the history of literature.
Okay but Cherik (Spot 12) is so incredibly queer I can’t even—
Like straight up they have a kid together because Professor X siphoned off Magneto into his brain and then they did a mind meld thing and Onslaught came out of Professor X like Athena from Zeus.
There was a recent story arc where they defeated Onslaught and the guy who defeated Onslaught straight up said something like ‘Professor X and Magneto aren’t doing anything because they have a soft spot for their murderous joint kid entity’. Please bear in mind that this guy is also straight-up Professor X’s son and a telepath.
Also this comic book cover is literally the gayest thing I have ever seen.
Tumblr media
Magneto is a bara daddy for 0 reason and Professor X is supposed to be dead, yet looks like a twink having the absolute time of his LIFE.
Also in a marvel comic specifically for celebrating canon queer couples there’s this stunner of a panel:
Tumblr media
Why is this not canon again???
God, the matched Hellfire Gala outfits are making me insane in the membrane.
Tumblr media
For context here’s literally THEE couple of the X-men universe at the exact same party:
Tumblr media
They’re complimentary— even they’re not fucking MATCHING. For the love of god just let the old men kiss holy shit.

💀okay so not a specific user but i need to get this off my chest. so one of my favourite new shows was renewed for a second season and I'm super excited, especially as it's from my country, I was watching it from the start, and a lot of my favourite locally made shows keep ending after one season so this is a small win for me.
However, there is a lot of overlap with another fandom that I find deeply annoying and some users are now posting in the tag comparing the two shows and I'm like 'STOP!!!! NO!!!' Because beyond sharing ONE actor the shows have nothing in common and I just need these users to PLEASE engage with more things in the genre, but I don't want to be a dickhead so i'm jsut looking though the dash, grinning and baring it for all eternity aaargh.
you suffer more than jesus... remember when every character in every period movie benedict cucubatch had ever been in was shipped with bbc sherlock and the fandom tags were full of sherlock and no actual content for the actual canon and characters? god. terrible when that happens.

Hi! When Aziraphale looked at Crowley like that after Crowley saved his books from burning in S1, it nearly made me tear up. I don't even cry after watching something on screen lol.
Is there any specific name for that trope? "A does a favour for B and B can't stop themselves from looking at A with heart-eyes." (Or is it too specific to be a trope? Because something similar happened in ASIP of BBC Sherlock too when Angelo brought the cane to John and John turned to look at Sherlock with a similar expression.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think It's called "queer blond disaster doesn't know how to communicate that they're about to break down and cry or fuck their partners silly when the camera's off" LOL
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOL if you liked that scene... light spoilers, S2 EXPANDS on that scene, so I think you'll enjoy it. It's... Ooof pretty gay.
I'm so happy to hear about how you're enjoying Good Omens! :D You can see why a lot of the Sherlock fandom latched onto it after S4 LOL

@sgtpeppers tagged me (retroactively <3)
How many works do you have on ao3?
6, technically, but one of them is just my outtakes
What’s your total word count?
221299 (jfc)
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
I'm Looking Through You Thinking Of Speaking My Mind Under Both His Thumbs Diarchy (Everything Comes Out) Teenage Petulance
Do you respond to comments? Why/why not?
Yes, but not always. Sometimes I forget and sometimes when the comment isn't very detailed I'm just not sure what to say. But I am thankful for every comment (I also feel weird about the fact that my replying inflates my own stats?)
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
All my fics have fairly bittersweet endings I think. But the last sentence of Under Both His Thumbs is almost anxiety inducing.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
Probably Teenage Petulance because it's kinda my most straightforward story. But it's also about pretty terrible grief, so maybe I'm Looking Through You, which I'd say has quite a hopeful if uncertain ending.
Do you write crossovers?
I don't see it happening for Beatles fic, tbh.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I was just going through my old ff.net reviews the other day and found some bizarre hate. But not on my Beatles fics no.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Not really.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, I think so actually, like a decade ago? I think I came across something I wrote in Russian? haven't thought about this in years and I hadn't been asked permission, but I think I was credited.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No and I'm not sure how I'd go about it tbh.
What's your all-time favourite ship?
IDK !!!!!
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
that time I started writing an Agatha Christie-style whodunnit starring various Beatles authors solving the mystery of the Beatles breakup.
What are your writing strengths?
I think I'm fairly good at empathetically depicting characters, even when they're maybe acting irrationally. I also think I'm able to weave real history well into my narrative and I'd say I'm good at themes.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I think I have a tendency toward melodrama – less in the plot, but in characters' reactions to the plot.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
This is such a specific question. I used Bavarian German once in I'm Looking Through You actually.
I don't want my reader to have to look up what something means or scroll to the bottom of the page to read a footnote. So I would only include it if it wasn't pertinent to understand or translate in-line.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
BBC Sherlock :/ I Don't Wanna Talk About It
What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
Stealing Abbi's take here. John/Brian would be very cool to write (and I do want to weave it into my current big WIP even if it won't be the main focus).
What's your favourite fic you've written?
I'm Looking Through You represents an entire phase of my life and writing it taught me so much so it's in a sense the most formative thing I've made… that being said, Thinking Of Speaking My Mind is a fic that is so emotionally tied to a lot of my feelings about the Beatles' story. I still think about it a lot.
I no-pressure tag @royaltyisshe64, @emometalhead, and @mydaroga

Not a BBC Sherlock fan anymore, but absolutely love Sherlock Holmes and Holmes/Watson content in other adaptations.
So, alas, blacklisting the BBC Sherlock tag doesn't really help, because I am still interested in Sherlock Holmes, and not everyone tags their posts as BBC Sherlock specifically when they post something related to it (not blaming anyone for that - I get how tiring it can be to tag the whole thing everytime you post/reblog something - but still.)
I can't even filter the johnlock tag (despite not shipping johnlock in the show anymore) because even people who post Holmes/Watson posts in other adaptations, they tag those as johnlock too (like granada johnlock, etc.) and I don't want to be missing out on them.
I'm not really going anywhere with this hehe. Just a rambling. I still seeing my old friends from the BBC Sherlock fandom (you included) on my dash.
Have a good day!
Hey Nonny *hugs*
Ugh, I'm sorry that searching has become harder for you. I can understand the frustration you're having... perhaps instead you need to filter further NOT by ship tags but by relationships?
If you go to AO3's search page start narrowing it down by Fandom:
Tumblr media
This example I just typed Sherlock, so you could choose the specific fandom or various fandom (you can select multiple ones, it will show up with an "x" next to it, then just start typing another one).
THEN, scroll down a bit more, and select from the "Relationship" section:
Tumblr media
The "/" means romantic ship (a "slash ship") and the "&" is a platonic / friendship ship (note that some "pre-slash" fics tag them with the ampersand). That should help narrow down your search a lot more than just typing in tags.
In fairness, a LOT of authors use "Sherlock Holmes and Related Fandoms" tag BECAUSE it is an umbrella fandom, so you HAVE to narrow it down more to the specific adaptation you're looking for fics for. Using both seems to work better, I find.
And in defence of authors, Johnlock is the most-known ship tag for them, so you WILL get everything from everywhere. You're best off to make SURE you're using the relationship filter to narrow it down rather than just typing in "Johnlock" as a general tag search.
Unless of course this is ALL already what you're doing then I'm just a fool who can't read LOL 🙃
That all said, I am sorry you're having a hard time finding what you need (and to be fair, my blog isn't the best place to find non-BBC Johnlock fics, LOL) BUT I do really appreciate you still enjoying my content enough to follow me although BBCS isn't your jam anymore <3
I hope I helped a BIT, and it's totally okay to come here and ramble. Surely there are other kindred spirits and maybe your ask helped them find what they're looking for <3
Have a fantastic day, Nonny *hugs*

I think the warrior cats and warriors in your submission list are the same thing,btw do you have reccomendations of like. anything that writes woman well
Ah, you might be right; I think I skimmed that entry's propaganda, and it was very specific to whatever series it was about without dropping the full series name, and I was like "Maybe this is Warrior Cats? I feel lazy, I'm not going to look heavily into it."
So, as a reminder: use the full but common name for the series! For example, Miraculous Ladybug (this seems to be the most common title despite being a shortened version), Warrior Cats, BBC Sherlock, etc. And check that you don't have a space after the title's entry, as that counts as a different entry than the title without the space when using the UNIQUE function in Google sheets (which is how I count the unique entries).
As for recommendations, this is hard because I watch a lot of trash, especially recently, but:
- You can never go wrong with Revolutionary Girl Utena. Note: this show (and start with the show, not the movie) has a lot of potentially triggering stuff, so check out those warnings before you start if you have any triggers at all. It uses the triggering stuff very well and to tell its story and explore its themes, not just for, like, titillation though. Indeed, it is, I would argue, necessary for the story and themes the show seeks to explore. It is legally free on Youtube in...I want to say 480p, and in better resolution on Crunchyroll and Funimation (yes, Funimation's site is still up; I find it superior to Crunchyroll's since it actually includes closed captions for dubs, although it doesn't include newer anime from after the two companies merged). Also, you want to watch the sub for this. I'm normally not one to say "the dub is bad" and stuff and be a purist about it—in fact I normally go to bat for dubs—but, uh... yeah, the dub is bad this time. Crispin Freeman and Dan Green are delightful in it though, I'll give it that.
- Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood uses its female characters well. Maybe it could be better, I've seen some people in these tournaments have beef with it, but it's a pretty perfectly told story, like solid A+, with a lot of really great female characters who I find very satisfying so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. This is on Crunchyroll, Hulu, and I believe Amazon Prime?
- Don't let the title fool you: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is a fantastic show with great female characters who are complex and human, have compelling arcs, and are vital to the story. The relationship between Rebecca and Paula is central to the show and SO good, especially as the show goes on. The title is because it explores the trope of the crazy ex-girlfriend in a very humanizing way, and the title/opening song even mentions how the title is a sexist term, but it's a lot more nuanced than that. Also, it's a musical with very good original songs every episode. But check trigger warnings for this show too though. The show is streaming on Netflix last I checked.
- Uhh... maybe the first two seasons of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic? It's a kid's show, but it's good. I haven't seen it in years and years though, so I don't know if I can still fully vouch for it. I believe it is streaming on Netflix?
- Revue Starlight? I haven't thought about it heavily, but I had no beef watching it. This is streaming on HiDive.
- I've heard good things about Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, but I can't vouch for it personally. It's streaming on Crunchyroll.
UPDATE: Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury is also legally on youtube!
Honestly, I know more imperfect shows that I'm satisfied with, like I give it a B+ to A- at least, but that I haven't thought heavily about than stuff where I'm like, "Oh, yeah, definitely, definitely, nothing I'd pick out there as a problem." For example, Baccano! is probably imperfect (as well as not streaming legally anywhere), but I don't remember being, like, struck by a bunch of problems there. So, I'm not the best for recs that I can give a 100% guarantee for.

Did you have any experience or did you learn any knowledge that helped you to improve your deduction skills extermely in a short time or immediately? It can be one of your theories(building, timeline etc.)or experiences.
Okay so, this is post-answer Damian here, this turned out to be a massive answer to your question, so uuhhhh, have fun (?)
Hello! So before i answer this question let me just say, please don't try to speedrun deduction, i don't know if that's where you're going with this question, but doing so it's like trying to speedrun playing an instrument, you'll just end up with a nice party trick instead of an actual skill. So yeah, with that out of the way, onto the actual answer
So yes, i have found a few things that helped me sort of "boost" my learning of deduction at different stages, i'm still finding things like these today. These are like moments in your learning progress where everything you've learned up to that point just sort of clicks, and to be completely honest a lot of my theories come from those moments. I do genuinely believe that these moments are different for everyone, since everyone takes different paths to learning deduction and everyone has different moments of clarity where everything they've been trying to learn just settles into your brain, and it's suddenly all understandable. For this reason i won't necessarily explain what experiences i had or what things i learned that prompted this (also because that's why i post my theories, since they're a product of these moments, and i still have at least one you haven't seen yet), but rather i will share how i got to these moments
For me a tool that i used and still use to get me to these moments is analyzing other people's deductions, and bare with me cause this might sound like complete nonsense but trust me, this is really a good tool. You can analyze actual, real deductions, but unfortunately it's very hard to analyze an actual deduction, because the deductionist has to provide the reasoning behind it, and for some reason that's something a lot of deductionists nowadays seem to be allergic to doing. This is why i provide the reasoning to every deduction i post here if i have the reference picture of what i'm deducing (the grand total of two i've posted so far... slowly but surely). As an alternative, and something i do a lot, is analyze deduction scenes from BBC Sherlock, i've always said these scenes are an almost perfect portrayal of what actual deduction looks like
Now, let me be very clear (and go on a slight tangent to justify what i just said). A lot of people in the deduction community will give you the typical advice of "Sherlock Holmes is fiction, keep that in mind, he is the perfect deductionist, and trying to be on his level is an unachiavable goal!", and i get where that sentiment comes from, but i fundamentally disagree with it. Sherlock, at least the BBC version, is definitely fiction, but it was written in a way that aligns very well with how actual deduction works. In deduction you're presented the effects of something, and it's your job to trace that effect to it's original cause. Writers go through this process too, they have an effect they want (a murder that looks a specific way, or a killer that works in a specific manner, or even just a way for Sherlock to know John is an army doctor), and they have to come up with a plausible, believable way for that effect to work, a cause for it. By doing this, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss stumbled upon some unbelievably realistic portrayals of what deduction looks like
Now, this is not to say that Sherlock isn't fiction at all, there is definitely fiction in that show (starting with the actual cases), there are definitely ficticious parts in the portrayal of deduction, but the fiction (in deduction specifically) doesn't come from the skills Sherlock displays, or from the mental processes he uses, but rather from the situations he finds himself in. Sherlock, in that show, always has all the specific information he needs for his deductions to come to fruition, he always has the necessary clues to get to a specific conclusion, and this is not something you're going to find in real life. That being said, if a deductionist were to be presented with the same information Sherlock is presented with, there is no reason why they shouldn't be able to make the same deductions he makes in that show. So keeping this in mind, we can take that show and analyze the processes Sherlock goes through, analyze the methods he uses, and apply them ourselves, or learn things about actual irl deduction from them
So, rant over, let's get into how to actually analyze a deduction, from Sherlock or otherwise. This something i haven't yet figured out how to explain in a post, i actually have been toying with the idea of making a Youtube video going through how to break down a deduction and analyze the trains of though present in it's reasoning.
So i'm still working on showing you guys how to do this, what i can tell you is pay attention to what a deductionist is saying saying when they explain their deductions, not to the actual words that explain "this is how i deduced this thing", but rather how and why they arrived to the conclusions, or how and why they went a specific direction or down a specific route. You're not looking to understand E=MC2, You're looking to understand what was Einstein thinking, and how did his trains of thought let him reach E=MC2.
In every explanation of a deduction you have the input, the trains of though that input goes through (what we call The Blackbox), and the output. The input and output is what the deductionist explains, the cause and effect, the A+B=C. But The Blackbox, the process inside their brain that allows them to go through that reasoning, the tools they use to connect observations to a conclusion, keeping in mind probabilities, keeping in mind things like Occam's razor, the tools that allows them to build up from one deduction to the next, that's something much more complex to explain or even put into words, and that's what you're looking to decipher from how they deduce.
I recommend writing down the explanation to a deduction, maybe make a mind map about it, write down all the deductions into sticky notes and make them into a diagramn, identify different types of deductions, what makes them different? what makes one more or less complex than the others? why did the deductionist start with deduction A and then move on to deduction B and not the other way around? why did they start or end at a certain point? etc. this is how i arrived at my theories. My Building Theory, for example, comes from doing this and realizing that the diagramn i ended up with was entirely dependent on the deductions being stacked on top of one another, some of them literally supporting the next level. Of course once i made a connection like that one i went out and tested it multiple times, and upon seeing that it worked, boom, new theory, and these theories led to a massive boost in my deduction skills

Hello hello! I'm Billie, 30nb, looking for fellow 21+ roleplayers over discord to help me with my recurring obsession of dropping characters (with a mxm focus) from different fandoms into the Hunger Games!
I don't know why, but I've just always had a thing for characters falling in love while desperately trying to survive. So. Help me out?
I'm happy with semi-lit or advanced-lit style, so just let me know your preference! Outside of intro posts, I do lean a little more towards semi-lit (1-3 paragraphs) just because I can respond more often, but if you want long format, let's go for it!
Here are the specific fandoms & characters I'd like to play, then who I'd prefer to pair them with.
The Boys Hughie Campbell against either Billy Butcher or Soldier Boy.
Hazbin Hotel Angel Dust against Husk, Alastor, or Vox.
The Kingsman Eggsy Unwin against a Harry Hart or Merlin
Marvel Peter Parker against Tony Stark, Wade Wilson, Bucky Barnes, Stephen Strange, Harry Osborn, or Johnny Storm. Eddie Brock against Venom.
Sherlock (BBC) John Watson against Sherlock Holmes.
Supernatural Dean Winchester against Castiel, Sam Winchester, Crowley, or Lucifer.
If that sounds interesting to you, add me on discord (4theroleplayz) or like this post!

Have you ever thought about doing Sherlock? A bit taboo i know, old fandom and such, but I feel like you’d be brilliant at it. Just a suggestion from having some nostalgia here, non the less hope your having a wonderful day.
TW: homophobia, racism, albeism (specifically against autistic people), transphobia, mention of jokes about rape
if you don't want to read this entire answer because the TWs are uncomfortable for you, then tldr no because the show contains bigotry and the main cast are gross/have said gross things. i don't want any arguments about the show, i don't think you're a bad person if you like the show, i just personally am very uncomfortable with it and with the lead actors so i will not make any fan content of it and would ask for no one to request this fandom again. i can not like the show and you can like it and we can get along these things can coexist.
all of this post is /nm , i am not angry at you anon, i am just explaining why i have the feelings i have about the show which you do not have to read if you do not want too, no hard feelings.
full answer under the cut, read at your own discretion:
i assume you mean bbc sherlock since you said taboo? and if so, the answer is no. and i don't think it's appropriate to call sexism and homophobic 'taboo' like it's a guilty pleasure. i'm not going to voice for a show that is at worst bigoted and at best a really bad adaption of sherlock holmes as a character.
this isn't meant as a mean attack towards you. when i watched the show when it came out i was a young teen and didn't see the bad in the show. and then when i was older and i got more familiar with the writers and uncomfortable with them i looked back on the show and realised how terrible it was. and look it's fine if you like it as an adaption of sherlock or like certain scenes of the cinematography or acting performances that's all fine. but.
but. hey maybe you're saying 'taboo' because you just think the show is cringe because of how the fandom acted or because of superwholock so sorry to burst anyone's bubble but this show and the people associated makes me so uncomfortable and angry so sorry you opened a can of worms.
irene adler's story is adapted terribly. in the books she's the only person to best sherlock. in the show? she doesn't. she loses. and then is a damsel in distress. oh and also is treat with such lesbophobia as the male writers have her be gay, literally say she's gay, but then falls in love with sherlock cos i guess she just hadn't met the right guy yet. that's such a gross narrative. and the queerbaiting. i know that word gets thrown around a lot. let me remind people of what it actually means. when a work of fiction purposely baits that characters will be queer while knowing they will never make the characters queer. so many people make comments within the show about john and sherlock being boyfriends, john being gay, etc, etc, while the writers knew they were never going to make them gay.
also the actor who plays has said disgusting things about autistic people, the actor who plays john has a consistent history of making racist and sexist jokes as well as joking about rape, and his ex wife who played his wife mary watson on the show is a terf. so. i mean she's claiming she's not a terf but she's following so many terf accounts and you don't do that by accident, said she supports 'legitimate trans people' which is a transphobic phrase as theres no such thing as an unlegitimate trans person, and doesn't think trans women are women. so. and the head writer, also has a history of sexist comments but when i searched to see if i was right they're mostly old so maybe he's grown up since then idk i don't follow him and don't want too.
anyway if someone is interest in a critique of sherlock in terms of how it works as an adaption hbomberguy has a video called 'sherlock is garbage and here's why'. it doesn't talk about the actors and what they've done or said, it's purely pulling the show's writing apart and how it adapts the characters and while the title sounds click baiting it's a really informative and well made video essay.
this is not meant to be me saying if you like sherlock you're a bad person, because i don't believe that. this is me sharing my stance on the show, as someone who as a teen was a big fan but then grew up and reflected and more stuff came out about the people involved. if you can still find things to enjoy about the show despite what i've said, go ahead. doesn't bother me. but don't ask me to make fan content for the show.
