The witch finders arrival had you and Merlin in shambles he had already been pointing fingers and he had been in Camelot for nearly a day and already had been accusing people of having magic.
What was worse, he had witnesses. Three girls from the lower town who had been seeing traces of magic a man coughing up a frog from his throat, to a goblin dancing in the flames of a dying fire. To faces of the drowned in the well. with every confession you sent an angry glare to Merlin beside you, since he was the reason this witch finder had been called in the first place.
Fear bubbled in your throat when the witchfinder said he already had suspects. and who the witchfinder had accused happened to be yourself, Merlin, and the lady morgana.
It was day three when he found âproofâ you were a witch. (Of course you were but the proof was bogus. It wasnât yours.)
It wasnât Merlinâs either, it was an amulet poorly hidden in a pot. Neither yourself nor Merlin were skilled with charming jewellery, and you couldnt wear bracelets whilst being the court physicians apprentice, besides when would you even have the time to charm jewellery? Between saving Arthur, being gauisâs apprentice, and watching over Merlin you never had a second to breathe.
But despite having never seen the amulet in your life you knew the witchfinder would see no sense. Men like that never would, and what was worse the witchfinder happened to be an old friend of gauis, with a reputation based on brutality and hatred. He despised magic with a passion if he suspected you, you were already as good as dead.
But you couldnât let Merlin die by the hands of the witchfinder, Merlin had far too much life ahead of him.
He had to protect Arthur. He had to unite Albion. he had to live long enough to see Arthurâs rule And believe me There was nothing you wanted more than to see Arthur unite Albion and bring magic to the land But you werenât the one destined to unite Albion, you were however destined to protect those you loved and some part of you was okay with dying for the cause of keeping your family safe.
and if you were asked if you regretted taking the fall for Merlin or gauis, of course youâd say no. He was your best friend and gauis was like a grandfather to you. Youâd let them sentence you to death a thousand times over if it meant Merlin was safe. If gauis was safe.
âSearch through that cupboard and under the bed!â The witch finders commanding voice called out to the guards as they tore apart gauisâs chambers you were aware by now that the moment he walked in heâd already deemed you guilty.
By the way His eyes narrowed like a predator to prey, the atmosphere was tense like heâd been preparing to go for the kill for awhile now. and disgust permeated from his figure in waves this man watched you like you were the dirt on his shoe, some small disgusting insect that deserved to die if he even thought you had magic.
Sharing a nervous glance at gauis your hands wringing nervously in your lap as you watched these knights destroy your home your gaze asked gauis the same question heâd been dreading, where was Merlinâs spell book?
If you were going to go down for magic paraphernalia you fully thought it would be because of Merlinâs spell book not some poorly disguised amulet that wasnât yours in the first place.
Leon had been the one to find the amulet a haunted look in his eyes you could tell Leon did not want to do this, but honour bounded the knights more than kinship. More than years spent with each other from childhood sparring, to treating his wounds when Leon grew from a bashful baby faced boy into a lean young man practicing to become a knight.
He was honour bound to tell this monster what he found And youâd hate to see Leon burned beside you under the guise of solidarity. It was better for one to burn than two.
âAn. enchanted. amulet.â The witchfinder spoke slowly as he inspected the Jewlery, every word sealing your fate âwhose is this? Perhaps the boy Merlin Or the girls? Or even yours, old friend.â The witch finder sneered pointing his finger in your face as he circled gauis and yourself like you were prey
Your horror filled eyes flickered to gauis and you watched as his mouth opened and his eyes flashed with familiar selflessness it was clear, what the old man was going to do, he loved his little family as much as you did and youâd hate to see the old man take the blame for you or Merlin again.
living with gauis has already been enough of a burden you couldnât let him die for something he had no part in (not that you did either but you were nothing if not loyal.) your heart constricted in your chest, your stomach dropping
One of you would surely be executed for this but you would not let it be Merlin, or gauis. It would be you before it ever was them.
Taking a shaky breath you stepped forward your hand out to block gauis front from stopping you âitâs mine.â
And the beat of your heart deafened you the room went deadly silent guards hands went to their swords ready for anything, in the corner of your eye gauisâs face went ghostly pale filled with horror as he watched his youngest apprentice, the girl he practically raised as if his own stare down this false god with cold eyes the sent fear shooting through gauis, you were capable you like Merlin had the ability to destroy your enemies without lifting a finger but gauis knew you better than for you to defend yourself. But you would be brave braver than anyone else.
You steeled yourself infront of the witchfinder your eyes narrowed dangerously. You did not take kindly to those attempting to ruin your family.
âGuards.â With one word the witch finder sealed your fate, looking to gauis behind you, your eyes only let your guard slip for a moment and the old man saw the burning fear that filled your gaze. As Leonâs hands restrained you with hesitation.
âyou canât!â Gauis called pointedly to the witchfinder âitâs not hers! she doesnât know what sheâs saying.â Gauis pleaded desperately after you seething from where he stood, he would not watch another child die.
you felt your heart break for the man who was like your father. âLeon, please.â You pleaded to Leon to release your hands for just a moment and the man youâve known since childhood released his grip for only a second it was enough for you to break his hold and sprint to take gauis in a hug
Crashing into his arms you closed your eyes blinking away tears And you muttered the one phrase that could save you, that could reverse this fatal mistake, the one thing that stopped the panic in gauis for only a moment âItâs not mine.â
Before Leonâs hands had pulled you from gauisâs comforting arms, your tearful eyes met gauis and you expected to be met with fear but a newfound determination in gauisâs face calmed you, hope filled your heart Merlin would find a way to save you he always did.
Leon bent your hands behind your back and lead you down the halls of the castle
The witchfinder leading you through the halls, your Druid communication had been the most useful in situations like this, situations where Merlin was nowhere to be found
âMerlin, if you can hear this please find a way to get me out of this. The witchfinder has accused us of using magic be careful. Help me Merlin, Please find Arthur.â You didnât get a response despite the fact You had never begged and you never had sounded quite as hopeless as you did then, even when you were behind enemy lines, in enemy dungeons it was different.
They werenât your friends, werenât your family sentencing you to die this was.
As you were dragged through the halls Camelot knights walked all around you, their billowing red capes with the golden dragon crest that once brought you so much comfort now brought only dread, the burning memory being wrapped up in Arthurâs cape on a hunting trip once dearly reminisced now just felt cruel.
â.ŕłŕż*:シ
The braying of horses and the taps of hooves on the ground as you, the knights, Arthur and Merlin set off on a hunt you found it silly to be hunting for game for fun but you couldnât refuse the invite considering you were arthurs personal physician recommended by gauis (and Merlin babysitter) and atleast you were with your closest friends who are the loyalist of loyal.
As opposed to being stuck in gauisâs chambers mulling over books like you do almost daily youâd take any possible time with Arthur especially away from prying eyes.
The sun was starting to go down and you were too far away from Camelot to head home so Arthur called it and youâd be camping in the woods tonight, you didnât mind. It was nice to camp under the stars with your friends away from all the expectations, The watchful eyes. Camelot was home but it was growing increasingly more dangerous.
Here, in the forest with Arthur and Merlin and the knights you were more than just a physician you were equal. You were more then just lower class, you were free and here under the constant cover of trees and the darkening blanket of the setting sun you could be more than some backup physician, you were just y/n. And Prince Arthur was just Arthur.
And if you could have just cupped this moment in your hands and held it tightly to your chest you would have.
Camped by a large oak tree in Arthurâs arms his red cape with the golden pendragon sigil covered your body from the elements keeping you safe and warm and in the light of the fire there was no fear, no worry about expectations. Or watching eyes all that mattered was being truly yourself with the man you love in his arms unashamed.
When sleep finally stole you away from Arthur Merlin couldnât stop the question that was brewing for months âdo you love her?â The young man asked scouring the ground with a stick his arms rested on his knees as he watched the couple together Merlin knew this would turn out badly his best friend, a physician with no title dating the crowned prince of Camelot? A recipe for disaster
He knew what his destiny foretold, he knew the perils and he knew that your role in destiny would surely not let this freedom, this unabashed love stay happy. There could be no room for happiness when you had magic.
âOf course I love her.â The prince found himself telling Merlin hesitation in his voice fear rolling from him in waves, by now it was the late hours of the night, the knights and yourself long since asleep and Merlin and Arthur the only ones still awake
âYou know your father would never approve?â Merlin spoke assured that if uther found out youâd most likely be executed
âI know that Merlin, but one day it will be different my father will have no say and I will be king when I am king I want her- to be my queen.â Arthurâs fingers run through your hair softly a promise Arthur swore to himself he would keep his arms wrapping tightly around your waist the soft sound of your breathing calming Arthurâs pounding heart he knew this was reckless and senseless but this was love. And love has no logic.
â.ŕłŕż*:シ
Now a bitter taste of betrayal sat heavily on your shoulders as you were flanked by those you call friends as they lead you to your death you couldnât blame them itâs not their fault they have to follow uther but it leaves a horrible taste in your mouth
How things had changed.
It was sad to feel Leonâs grip firm but not brutish still trying not to hurt you as if he wasnât leading you to what would be your death. You were aware from the moment Arthur managed to steal your heart youâd end up on the gallows or burnt at the stake or youâd face death in battle intentionally scheduled by uther. He hated anyone who was not of noble blood for Arthur.
And No good ever came from destiny, and if it was your destiny to die in place of your loved ones youâd die a valiant death. But it didnât stop the shake in your hands.
You could mask your fear you would not give the witchfinder what he wants. He would not break you.
But leon could feel the shake in your hand and feel the erratic beat of your heart from the pulse point on your wrist and he wanted nothing more than to damn the consequences and save you but he couldnât. you could only rely on Merlin to prove the witchfinder a fraud and you to be innocent you could only pray for Arthurâs forgiveness. After your innocence is proven.
But the horrible feeling of dread that was building in your stomach as they were leading you into the dungeons a cell- no doubt already made up- And down every step you felt like throwing up when you finally made it to the bottom of the stair case the scent of wet earth and straw filled your nose the bricks that lined the dungeon and its torches that burned steadily along the side of the stairs made you feel ill.
The witch finder swung open the first vacant cell and Leon was forced to keep you there walking you the the center of the room, the suns rays that slipped through the cracks of the small window warmed your face but it didnât comfort you, soon the sun would be your clock, your tally mark for your final night alive if Merlin failed.
Leonâs hands left yours and still the ache in your shoulders stayed âIâm sorryâ he spoke lowly in your ear before he stepped away you turned to finally face your friend
âLeon, let Arthur know Iâm sorryâ You called to the man who grew up beside you who had been growing up pledging to die for Camelot even if that meant dying young he never expected the young girl with so much light in her eyes, and gentleness that always managed to calm her patients, he never thought sheâd be the one on deaths door before him.
Before the man could reply the witch finger slammed the cell door shut and sneered through the bars ânot to worry heâll find out soon enough.â
Your heart constricted in your chest as you watched them all walk away the iron in the Camelot dungeons nullifying your powers and your connection with Merlin you couldnât hear his reply to your plea you were well and truly alone you could of course break out from the cells the iron didnât make you powerless only dulling your connection with the earth, the place your power comes from. But you couldnât put your friends at risk.
â.ŕłŕż*:シ
It was hours later when guards came to haul you away to your sentencing, heavy iron handcuffs clicked into place over your hands large chains weighing you down & tight enough to make the skin on your wrists rub painfully.
As Guards lead you through the castle to the throne room, there you stood at the large mahogany double doors two guards on either side as they flung the doors open all your friends and family, all your previous patients were standing there watching as the witchfinder lead you in as the number one suspect, the guilty witch. two guards gripped your arms and threw you to the ground in front of the king, a man who youâve spent countless hours mending, and stitching up alongside gauis.
Your hands shook as your knees took the brunt of the force, your chains rattling from where you were you couldnât see Merlin, or gauis. But You could feel Merlinâs energy over the crowd
âIâm going to get you out of this y/n, I swear.â Merlin promises to you through your Druid telepathy and you bit back the tears as You scowled at the sight of the ground. you couldnât bare look up at the sight of morgana in front of you, of Arthur infront of you fear that youâll see nothing but disgust, embarrassment and regret on his face.
âHere is the first witch Iâve uncovered in my short time here in Camelot. The court physicians apprentice. The princes! Physician!â Every word the witch finder spoke booms over the crowd as he exclaims to the counsel shock no doubt painted their faces youâve treated every single person in this room and youâve used magic on quite a few to save them. Why was that a bad thing? If you have the power to save someone was that not the right thing to do? Magic is not bad but people are.
âWHO can imagine what she could have used on the prince unsupervised! What magic she could have used and at what cost to the prince!â By the gasps of those standing around the room the witchfinders words seemed to make them angry, seemed to make the king angry he loved Arthur in his own way so for the witchfinder to use Arthur to sentence you, god. You were surely going to die.
âNo.â Arthurâs words were quiet this was the first time he had said anything ây/n a witch? I mean come on weâd know! Sheâs lived in Camelot since she was five. And she wouldnât harm a fly!â Arthur called like it was laughable resting his hand on his hip like it was obvious but by the look in his eye the look of realisation but you couldnât find disgust you didnât have time to search for it.
But It made you turn your gaze to the floor Arthur knows. he knows. you have magic. Youâve healed him countless times. no stab wound, or arrow wound could be healed as quickly as his has or all the time heâs been injured in battle only moments before, before the searing pain has been replaced with a dull ache. Or the times as a child where any scrape or scuffed knee had been eased by a soft kiss over the wound. The look of betrayal passing over his face when you gained the courage to finally look at him made you shrink into yourself
âThatâs exactly what someone under her spell would say. I fear, uther that the prince is too close to her to see clearly.â The witchfinder spoke with a voice like acid and you couldnât stand making yourself small if he was going to do you for magic you would not be ashamed. You would not hide from his gaze.
Your chained hands pushed you from your slumped position on the ground your hair messily falling over your face you stood on shaky legs looking at the people in the throne room, all your friends watching you with pity filled faces you couldnât stand it.
It made you feel sick, especially the fearful teary eyed look from morgana like she was seeing her future you hated this.
Uthers response felt like it took years, ây/n l/n I sentence you to death.â The room fell eerily silent before a scream filled your head, it was Merlin you whirled around to spot him in the crowd tears in his eyes and anger flashing across his face you wouldnât be surprised if the next attempt on uthers life would be from Merlin.
âNo! Father you canât. What evidence do you have?!â Arthur pleaded with his father quietly by his throne anger glaring in arthurs eyes pointed not at you, it gave you hope that he didnât hate you enough to want you dead.
âMy word is final.â The king sneered and your hope filled heart broke. Swallowing hard your eyes searched for Merlin the fear in your eyes hit him hard as he watched
you be carted out of the court room your eyes locking with Merlinâs anger and tears filled his eyes before your eyes swept to Arthurâs & the sheen of betrayal sat heavy in his eyes and before you could stop yourself you called out for him one last time. As the guards dragged you to the doors.
âArthur!â
â.ŕłŕż*:シ
The cells in camelots dungeons were always your most hated place to be from the horrid stench to the chill that cooled your bones to the straw that littered the floor In wet mangled clumps. To the extent it weakened your connection to your magic. Your magic was your strength the very essence of you to have it be weakened by the iron felt wrong.
The dungeons were perhaps the scariest place in Camelot there youâd sit, forced to rot as theyâre building a funeral pyre for you and your execution is due in a day.
But youâd been there for now two days, and Day by day you were becoming more and more sure that this was the one situation Merlin could not save you from.
by the betrayed look on Arthurâs face when you were lead through the large doors infront of the entire court for your sentencing and the cold look in uthers eyes you were a dead woman walking.
And maybe you deserved it by the look on Arthurâs face as the pieces fell into place and he realised all the times his wounds eased that were not with the help of adrenaline, but magic. it made you wonder did he believe you had enchanted him? Bewitched him to love you? It pained you greatly to even think that Arthur may be in his chambers rethinking every kiss youâve shared with one another. Would your love ever truly be enough for him to forgive you for magic? Of course he didnât like magic that was to be expected but he liked you. At least you thought he liked youâŚ
And He liked Merlin, heâd shown countless times indifference to magic, magic that had saved his life countless times, and still the look of betrayal in his eyes made you wonder Were all your secret picnics and stolen kisses in corridors just something to occupy him?
Were you nothing more than Arthurâs dirty little secret, a silly little romance that would have only ended in tragedy?
was it all for nothing?
Were you nothing to him?
No you were not nothing. You were everything you were his in private. the only place he didnât have to perform. He didnât have to agree with his fatherâs actions he could just be Arthur pendragon not the prince.
besides Itâs better to have loved Arthur and to die for it than to have never had him at all. You may never be his queen but you were for a fleeting moment, for a fleeting moment you were his and he was yours.
And now you would burn because you loved your family too much to watch them die, you half wondered as you sat in that cell if uther knew.
If he had known you and Arthur were courting in secret and if he called the witchfinder to get rid of more than one the little scandal waiting to happen and you wouldnât put it past uther to condemn you to death so long as Arthur is still under his control.
The longer you sat in your cell the more you stewed, a slue of emotions crashing over you, from sadness to anger, to acceptance.
You would accept the fate of burning for your loved ones but you would not accept the fate of losing Arthur. Not like this.
You would not be separated by death, if Arthur didnât want you after knowing the truth you would live with it, but you would not live with not knowing.
Your love for the boy had been too strong you were going to marry Arthur in the future, it wasnât to far away having a family with the prince, having a life.
That could have been your future. If you were not awaiting execution.
You sat there in drenching sadness that crashed like waves, what was worse was the sound of keyâs jiggling. Did you misjudge the days? Was this going to be the end? already?
âYou and me are going to have a little talk.â The witch finder sneered unlocking your cell and looking down at you with hatred still you didnât gaze in his eyes. You watched the floor with intensity as he hauled you off to a different cell leading you through the halls past the staircase you caught sight of a shaky morgana your eyes found hers and suddenly you felt a lot more scared than before.
In the cell there was a chair and a table and a small cart of various medical and surgical weapons âoh shitâ your mind screamed as the witch finder forced you to the chair âSo we can do this two ways. Itâs up to you confess why youâre in Camelot and who else has magic. and maybe Iâll let you live. Donât tell me and Iâll find out myself.â The cruelty in his tone made you rear back subconsciously eyes narrowing at the witchfinders gaze
âThenâ you sighed shakily looking at him through your lashes coldlyâyouâre going to have to find out yourself.â You summoned every inch of anger and willed it in your tone. Trying to be brave despite the frantic beats of your heart.
But It was hours spent in that damp Camelot cell hidden from the other prisoners clamped to a chair and the witch finder inches from your face and array of striking weapons on a small cart made your breathing hitch.
But youâve had worse, youâve had to fight wilderin in hengists kingdom for sport. Both yourself and Gwen had been kidnapped under the guise of being morgana and her physician and so yourself and Gwen were forced to masquerade as morgana and yourself and you were stuck in different cells both damp and smelling of blood and wet earth.
And then there was Lancelot who happened to be hengists champion, and a champion who only days later youâd be thrown into the pit with a wilderin with no weapons with a tied up Gwen and Lancelot. Both yourself and Lancelot had stayed behind to give Gwen time to escape and ultimately were the first to be thrown in the cage again you didnât mind as long as Gwen escaped youâd be fine.
But Truth be told the odds were very against you, but magic was always going to save you, but using it would doom you especially in front of everyone in hengists court. With the use of magic and a bloodied broken bone from the wilderins last meal made for a convenient way to murder the beast. Until another one came and Merlin and Arthur had saved you just in time From its hideous rat jaws the huge bleeding scar of its teeth in your arm made you detest the stench of blood and earth.
That was probably the worst experience of your life until now. And the scar from the wilderins teeth was still healing but the physical scars meant nothing the torture of being in a cell that smells the same as this dungeon was the worst that and the feeling of knowing your life is going to end were probably the most humbling experiences.
But, the only saving grace was that night in camp where Arthur had taken it upon himself to patch up your wilderin wound (poorly might you add as a physician it was odd to let the only man with very little experience patching someone up, patch you up.)
But you let him anyway and Arthurâs hands held your arm with feather light touches the needle threaded through your flesh with clumsy fingers the stiching off centre and rough around the edges but it was Arthurâs way of telling you he cared, the silk thread slid easily through your flesh but it pained you every stitch Arthur was no physician but he was trying.
âIâm glad youâre okay. And Gwen told me when they questioned you about any secrets of Camelot you never cracked.â
ânever Camelot is my home.â You smiled at the prince but your attempt at reassurance failed miserably and he ducked his head
âI wish you, cracked. Then they wouldnât have given you that.â Arthur pointed to the growing black eye rapidly swelling over your left eye a bruise you got for refusing to rat out any information on when guards were on duty, the way to the Camelot armory or anything you overheard as a physician from any loose lipped clients.
âI am not weak Arthur. I can deal with a black eye and brutish men. Iâve been sparring with you and the knights for yearsâ Your eyes pointed angrily at the boy crossing your arms over your chest despite the half finished stitching feeling the half sewn wound twist painful as you did so but you hid the pain to appear strong something youâve done since you were young
âI never said that! But you- you arenât weak. I canât stand seeing you in pain.â Arthurâs blue eyes bore into yours with such an intensity his eyes flashing from your lips to your eyes his hand cupping your jaw as he pressed his lips softly against yours shock prevented you from kissing back as the blonde went to pull away you chased his lips kissing him back with feverish passion.
âI love you Arthur.â You rested your head against his the exhaustion of the day catching up to you he didnât say it back but you didnât care he just had to know.
â.ŕłŕż*:シ
The memory of Arthur made you feel loved it kept you strong, hit after hit, once against your ribs twice against your face, four times against your legs and once more against your face with enough force to split your lip licking the blood that dripped from your lip your bruised body heaved in pain and still you never cracked.
âCome on miss l/n, just tell me two little names and all this can stopâ
âYouâre deluded.â You sneered before spitting a wad of blood into the witchfinders face smiling gleefully when your blood tinged spit stained his face but the glee was short lived when the man had sent a quick hit to your chest stealing the air from your lungs.
Before he grabbed a tool with a screw and roughly pulled your thumb into it âyou will tell me miss y/n what your intentions are with the prince and with Camelot or I will force it out of you.â
The witchfinder shredded his coat as he leaned over you tightening the screw into your thumb the pressure of the screw against your finger had you squirming in your seat as he tightened the contraption more and more
âAll you need to do is confess your accomplices. And this will stop.â His voice echoed the room but the feeling of a sharp screw drilling into your finger tighter and tighter puncturing the nail and skin the pain otherworldly and unbearable you tried to hold your scream back but when the man still did not relent and instead tightened the thumb screw you let out your blood curdling scream.
âWHO! Are! Your! Accomplices!â His voice yelled now as he tightened more and more gut wrenching screams ripped from your throat you would let yourself scream, let yourself cry but you would not tell him a thing.
The crushing feeling of your thumb bones breaking made your heart beat incredibly fast your other ironed hand gripped the table with force your nails digging into the wood
He still tightened the screw and by the loud haunting screams that ripped from you and the smile on the witchfinders face he enjoyed your pain you couldnât help the salty tears and horrible screams the pain unbearable and overcoming your sense but still your mouth locked on any information like a vault.
âCome on!â His voice boomed as his hands squeezed your bicep his eyes crazed as he watched you
âFuck you!â You screamed eyes red with tears and fighting the approaching darkness in the corner of your vision
âAredian, sir. The king has called a meeting and requires your presence.â The servant at the cell door had spoken quietly to the witchfinder nervous in his presence
The witchfinder sighed straightening his posture rolled his eyes and moved close to your ear âno matter, miss l/n. The lady morgana, and Merlin will burn with you soonâ
Your heart dropped and you struggled against the restraints the excruciating pain from your finger and the rest of your beaten body the pain in your ribs alluded you to the potential broken bones it caused your panicked shouts to echoed through the dungeon and the witchfinders laugh filled the room
âNo! Aredian stop.â You cried to his retreating figure âIâll confess to the use of sorcery if. And only if, you spare Merlin and morgana.â Your eyes close in defeat
âGood choice, miss y/n. take her to her cell.â
â.ŕłŕż*:シ
And there you were again cut off from anyone and anything unsure if Merlin would be able to prove you innocent, or if heâd burn with you, or if Arthur still even cared the woman he was courting was about to be executed and had just withstood torture. Hengist was bad but he never had broken your bones or tortured you only tried to feed you to wilderin.
The pain in your thumb had dulled but the bleeding hole had still gushed the measly bandage that consider of your dress did barely anything to stop the bleeding and the iron cells mixed with the torture made your magic virtually ineffective making you unable to fully heal your wounds only dulling the pain of your thumb.
your time was running out and you were truly alone in the cells your connection to Merlin via your druid telepathy was proving useless he wouldnât respond you couldnât warn him of the witch finder and by the shine of the moon in your cell you only had hours left.
There is already a funeral pyre with your name on it in the court yard. You couldnât help the tears that slipped down your cheeks you didnât want to die not like this and a prison break wasnât even on your mind theyâd just kill Merlin and gaius in your absence there was no way out. and the crushing guilt of something you cannot change began to pound against your skull. Were you born wrong?
Was it wrong to have this magic? This power that has saved those youâve loved for years why was it seen as inherently evil? Why were you seen as inherently evil? All you wanted was your friends to be safe.
And between the pain that debilitated you from the physical blows to the broken bones in your thumb and the emotional pain of Arthur most likely hating you made you want to just give up.
You pulled your knees to your chest as you cried the stupid scent of blood, earth, and straw polluted your nose. And you found yourself thinking about how lucky Gwen had been to have Lancelot visit her cell in hengists kingdom determined to break her and by extension yourself out.
You had Merlin in your court but you still wished you had someone to hold your hand through the vent even if it was the last thing youâd ever do you didnât want to die alone.
âY/nâ you heard whispered from the doors of your cell âArthur?â You called confusion lacing your voice as your red rimmed eyes met Arthurâs and you couldnât help but run to the cell door resting your head on the bars sobbing in relief at the sight of him the pain from your body put on the back burner for a moment.
âWhat happened?â Guilt filled Arthurâs heart at the sight of you, your eye healing from your previous beating and now the sight of your bloodied broken thumb and bruised body Arthur saw red.
He felt betrayed at the revelation of your magic of course but he understood why you had kept it a secret and if Arthur had been paying more attention he would have seen it plain as day when you were kids.
Your magic was obvious since childhood Arthur was too blind to see it.
âI knowâ was all he said eyes stoney and voice unwavering âI know you have magic the witch finder is right.â
Any hope that bubbles in your chest died with his words âArthur I- i can explainâ You tried shaking your head lacing your uninjured hand in his through the cell pleased when he didnât pull away
âShhh Merlin told me everything, everything youâve ever done to save me. Save everyone. I understand why you did what you did.â Arthur spoke lowly his eyes staring into yours trying to convey his apology
âMerlin has come up with a plan to save you, heâs doing it right now but I couldnât go another day without telling you Iâm sorry you had to keep this a secret. I canât stay for long but- but y/n I love you.â Arthur spoke with all the love he could muster placing a chaste kiss on your lips through the cell
âIâm sorry I didnât tell you before I was afraid of my father I am supposed to be king one day to marry someone of noble blood, but I donât want that. I want you.â Arthurâs voice is quiet as he confesses he wants to spend the rest of your lives together
âI want nothing more.â You felt like crying he still wanted you, magic and all.
âArthur, I was so scared.â You felt so exhausted from the torture to the ticking clock you couldnât help but cry
âShhâ Arthurâs fingers ghosted over the skin of your cheeks wiping your tears. âWe will prove your innocence, Iâll keep your secret. I promise you.â
Arthur placed a kiss on your lips once more pressing a necklace with his ring into your hand before promising Merlin has everything under control.
With your heart a bit lighter you finally sat down on the hard cell bed clutching Arthurâs ring in your hand you let sleep overtake your body trusting that Merlin will save you.
â.ŕłŕż*:シ
When the bright light of the sun shines through your cell window today is the day you are supposed to die, and part of your questioned if you dreamt Arthurâs presence to save your sanity but by the slight pressure of his ring on a chain in your hand reassured your beating heart.
You were not dreaming, Arthur loves you and Merlin just spent last night trying to save you but thereâs still a ticking time bomb of the noon execution and by the switch shift of the guards it was almost 12
Time was ticking and still there was no sign of Merlin you felt sick like your heart was going to fall out of your stomach
You prayed to whatever god or deity was out there that you would not burn today but by the size of the growing crowd outside the cell window your prayers would go unanswered there was nothing you could do but just sit there in anxiety
The rattling of keys and heavy sound of chainmail made you accept the fact that Merlin would be too late to save you and Arthur would watch you burn
When the knight reached your cell his keys turned the lock and he walked towards you slowly your eyes met the floor the pain in your thumb still debilitating but you held Arthurâs ring in your hands tightly if you were to burn your burn knowing you were loved.
To your surprise when the knight takes you by the wrist silver key in hand as he unlocks your handcuffs
Confusion takes over your face as you watch the knight with intensity âwhat?â You canât help but ask rubbing your now freed wrist nervous when he takes your injured hand but this knight grips your hand with gentleness thatâs beyond you
âYouâre free to go missâ the knight smiles he looked to be a newer knight of Camelot one you didnât grow up with but he is kind
âThank youâ you nod to the knight as you stumble from your cell gauis is standing at the end of the hallway white as a ghost but pleased to see you freed from your cell
âY/n!â Gauis smiles opening his arms and you canât help but fall into them holding onto gauis tightly your sobs wet his shirt shoulder
âGauis how did you do it? How did you prove me to be innocent?â You cry your hands shaking and body weak from days spent eating little food and dealing with aredians torture.
âIt was all Merlin and Arthur.â The old man smiles his arms supporting you as you walk up the stairs from the dungeons to your chambers
âTell me everything.âyou smile at the old man walking side by side down the corridor gauisâs laugh fills the empty hallway
âNot here, letâs get your wounds treated.â His eyes glance at the bruises littering your body, and the bloodied thumb
â.ŕłŕż*:シ
You had never been so happy to see your chambers in your life, the comforting smell of herbs and bread the familiar scent of old books and the sound of your boots against the stone floor sounded like music to your ears
Thereâs no scent of wet earth, or blood aside from the metallic smell emanating from your finger you could almost forget the pain of the cells now that youâre back.
But thereâs still very obviously signs of damage done by the witch finders raid broken pots, damaged shelves potions and poisons leaving residue on the floor
But still it is your home. gauis filled a pitcher of water and fills a cup for you and once the water passes your lips you come to realise just how parched you were gulping down glass after glass
gauis busied himself with fixing his work station pulling ointment after ointment and an array of bandages from his kit.
âSit pleaseâ gauis pointed to the table and you sat yourself on the wooden bench gauis had begun to take your makeshift bandage from your wound the gaping hole in your thumb and the blood that spurted from your wound made gauisâs breathing hitch
As he gentle distributed ointment over the wound to fight off growing infections and bandaging up the wound with a fresh bandage Merlin would work on reconstructing your thumb when he gets back
Gauis had felt over your ribs and when he had found another break Merlin would be healing that too for now gauis would sit beside you on the dining room table fresh food would be laid out gauis knew what it was like in the Camelot dungeons and the lack of food
So he didnât comment on how much you ate when approaching footsteps made your heart beat faster and your eyes flicker to gauis his hand rested on top of yours to reassure you, gauis and Merlin would always reassure you you were safe here you werenât trapped in the cells of your own home.
When Merlinâs figure found himself in the doorway you could see the relief on his face that you were okay aside from the bruises and bandaged thumb you were alive.
âOh y/nâ Merlinâs soft voice cried and before you knew it you were pushing up off of the table and running into Merlinâs arms
âHi Merlinâ you held him tightly you owed Merlin your life and so being in his hold meant being safe, he would never hurt you.
âGod Iâm so glad youâre backâ his hold tightened and he could feel your magic strong and your connection to eachother he wasnât cut off from you anymore
âIâm so sorry it took me so long.â Merlinâs guilt ate him alive as he pulled away the black eye and split lip made him see red if he didnât already kill aredian by accident he would have and he would have made him go through what you did.
Merlinâs eyes flashed yellow and the unbearable ache in your thumb and pulsing pain all over ebbed into nothingness.
You could feel your bones reassembling in your thumb and your broken rib fuse back together the pain and bruises once a bright purple colour would dissipate into a light blue and then would turn into the colour of your skin again.
âThank you, Merlin.â You squeezed his hand tightly he nodded his head and held you tightly in his arms
Before a smile broke out on his face âdo you want to hear how I proved aredian to be a fraud?â Merlin helped you sit beside him and poured another glass of water for you
âOf course!â
â.ŕłŕż*:シ
After Merlin had recounted the entire night from convincing Arthur of everything, that despite your magic you loved him with no enchantment and even if you had enchanted him Merlin asked Arthur point blank if what he told him that day you were cuddled in Arthurâs arms if it was still true, if he still loved you.
Arthur told Merlin he would always love you but he couldnât trust you now with magic Merlin felt like slapping the prince.
How could you trust Arthur? Heâs the prince of Camelot. A kingdom that tried to burn a woman at the stake the first day he arrived and you had grown up here watching that and still you treated its citizens and royalty with no malice?
Merlin understood why you couldnât trust Arthur he canât. Not because Arthur was a bad friend but heâs the prince.
No one can help how they are born, but you can put yourself in their shoes and Merlin spent hours convincing Arthur and then more hours enchanting aredian.
From the tincture of belladonna, to the bracelet, to even the frog from aredians throat! Merlin would not fail.
You loved Merlin a lot no one would go as far as he did to save you and you only knew him for a year and a half.
When three knocks sounded on the door Merlin had tried to hide his smile as gauis opened the door to Arthur, in a white shirt freshly showered hair and a Bouquet of wildflowers you felt your heart melt at his kindness
His blue eyes were filled with worry and fear his gaze flicking to gauis and Merlin before he lowered his voice âhow are you?â
âMuch better now Iâm out of that god forsaken cell.â You felt your throat close up at the mention of the cell you spent so long in
Arthur felt guilty about his actions about not saving you or stopping his father. He tried but he could have tried harder
You could see Arthur was drowning in his guilt placing your hand on his shoulder you lead him past gauis and Merlin to your room and sat on your small bed
âYou tried your hardest Arthur, itâs not your fault I was thrown in the dungeons.â
âI should have stopped them y/n. I should have broken you out I should have done anything!â Arthur blinked through tears
His hand holding yours in your lap, âArthur I love you with my whole heart I do not blame you, so please do not blame yourself.â
âI love you and I promise I will spend the rest of my life proving to you how much I love you.â Arthur confessed his eyes full of sincere love
You couldnât help yourself but to kiss him your lips meshing against one anotherâs felt like home, it felt like love and warmth and like an apology all in one.
It wasnât until your lungs burnt for air did you pull back. âI should go I donât want anyone to become suspicious, Iâll see you tomorrow?â Arthur asked tentatively a part of him afraid of rejection.
âOf courseâ you placed another kiss on his lip before pulling open your chamber door to reveal Merlin and gauis on the other side ears pressed against the wood looking guilty.
âMerlinâŚgauis what do you think youâre doing?â You chastise at the pair you expected this of Merlin but of gauis? That was surprising
âGauis i expected better of youâ Arthur laughed from where he stood wrapping an arm around your shoulder

The Prince's Heart
You used to spend your summers in Camelot, making quite the little troublemaking trio with Arthur and Morgana as children. After the collapse of your father's kingdom years later, you flee to Camelot for refuge. Having both grown into adults since your last meeting, the old friendly feelings between you and Arthur have shifted into something different. Neither you nor Arthur have an easy life. You both need stability and security, but are you able to provide that for one another, or do you simply bring more turmoil to each other's lives?

Chapter 2
After a few months in Camelot, you had settled in. Uther had officially declared you his ward so you had security in your permanent place in his household, you had found a sweet handmaid whose company you appreciated and had found ways of occupying your days outdoors now that spring was in full bloom. Your friendship with Morgana and Arthur had deepened, and Arthur in particular went out of his way to ensure your happiness. You felt more content than you had for at least a year in your fatherâs unstable court.Â
One morning, you were awoken much earlier than usual by a knock at your door. Thinking it odd as your maid didnât knock, but crept in to prepare your room whilst you were still asleep, you hurried to the door. Fearing that the knock at the door signalled some terrible news as it so often had done in your last weeks before fleeing to Camelot, you were pleasantly surprised when you were greeted by Arthur.Â
â[y/],â he greeted, kissing your cheek. âWhat are you doing here so early?â You asked, peering out of the window and noticing that the sun was only just beginning to rise. âAs the days have been warmer recently, I thought you might enjoy a trip to the lake like we used to take when we were younger. I thought you might be missing the river at home.â Your heart melted a little. You had been missing the river. On warmer days you enjoyed laying on the banks sunning yourself and cooling off in the water. âIâll be down in five minutes.â You promised, beaming. Yes, Arthur could be arrogant and a little selfish at times (as you had rediscovered over the past few months), but he could also be genuinely sweet and thoughtful.
You dressed hurriedly and made your way down to the courtyard, where you found Arthur chatting to his servant Merlin as he prepared two horses. âMerlin!â You greeted brightly. You liked Merlin. He had made you feel so welcome and he always had a witty offhand comment to make you giggle at Arthurâs expense. â[y/n]!â He greeted in return, bidding farewell to Arthur with a nod of his head and murmuring âI wouldnât blame you if you accidentally took a wrong turn and ended up back at the castleâ as he passed you. You chuckled and shook your head, taking Arthurâs outstretched hand, which he kissed, before being assisted onto your horse by the prince. âEver the gentleman,â you teased. He knew you didnât need assistance mounting a horse. You could do so before he could as children, a fact which you used to taunt him with for many years afterwards.Â
~~~
The ride to the lake was pleasant. The two of you chatted the entire way there and the rising sun looked beautiful through the thickening trees of the forest.Â
After an hour or so, you reached the lake. The sun had fully risen now but still hung low in the sky and reflected beautifully off the water. Arthur allowed you to stand and gaze at the lake whilst he unpacked one of the horseâs saddlebags. By the time you returned to him, he had set up a picnic of fruit, bread, cheese, meats and wine on a little blanket. He really was sweet.Â
Your smile when you turned around and saw his picnic warmed him. You had always been dear to him, but since he returned to Camelot to find you its newest permanent resident, he had been doing everything in his power to make you smile. He couldnât quite put his finger on why he enjoyed your happiness being because of his actions, but he wanted to see you smile as often as possible. âBreakfast?â He asked. âYou spoil me rotten.â You replied warmly, sitting yourself on the blanket.Â
~~~
You ate as much as you could and drank the wine sparingly as you didnât want your head to spin so early in the day. By the time you had eaten your fill, the sun had warmed the air and Arthur had removed a few of his layers. You didnât quite understand why you felt so drawn to him, but he really did put in such an effort to make you feel appreciated.Â
You both lay in the sun for a while, before you were positively sweltering in your heavy gown. âI need to cool off.â You announced, standing up and brushing your skirts flat again. âAs do I.â Arthur replied. You could see sweat forming in his hairline. Arthur pulled his tunic over his head, revealing his naked torso. You had seen him naked numerous times as a child when swimming in this lake or your river, but it felt different now that you were both of age. It felt less innocent. Your heart fluttered a little as you eyed his broad shoulders and chest and you felt even hotter as your eyes followed the dusting of hair down from his belly button to the hem of his trousers. He was the very definition of the perfect male form.Â
~~~
Arthur had been avoiding eye contact. He had seen you naked numerous times as a child but it felt different seeing your body as a woman. His thoughts were broken by you requesting âwould you help me with my dress?â âOf course,â Arthur replied, moving over to you. Your back was turned and he slowly began to unlace the back of your gown. His heart beat a little faster as you slipped the garment off your shoulders and dropped it to the floor. You walked towards the water. You looked heavenly. The way the sun illuminated your naked body, the curves of your breast, waist and hips made him feel slightly flustered.Â
~~~
The water was pleasantly cool against your flushed skin. You waded in until the water was up to your hips and then dove underneath the surface, liking the way the water felt against your closed eyes.Â
~~~Â
Arthur watched you dive beneath the surface of the water. You breached the surface again and turned to face him, the water lapping gently against your chest and your hair floating ethereally around you. You truly looked angelic. Arthur removed his remaining clothes and hurried in after you, stumbling once the water became a little too deep to move through quickly and making you giggle. He loved the sight of you laughing at him.Â
Mimicking you, he dove beneath the water and swam over to you, grabbing one of your ankles lightly and tugging.Â
~~~
You toppled over and Arthur released your ankle. You were laughing. He was laughing. He looked like a figure from a beautiful painting with his wet hair sticking to his forehead and crinkles in the corners of his eyes from his wide smile.Â
You swam for a while, chasing one another, bobbing each other under the surface and finally just floating in the middle of the lake under the warmth of the sun. It was bliss. You loved Camelot, you really did, but sometimes the city felt a little suffocating. Despite only being here for a short time, Arthur knew how to make you happy. He knew that you needed to be out in nature to feel grounded. The thought that you should feel guilty for not bringing Morgana nagged you, but you were enjoying Arthurâs company too much to bring yourself to actually feel guilty. You had the sense that whatever this warm feeling was wouldnât exist if there were anybody except you and Arthur here.Â
~~~Â
Finally, Arthur left the water and you followed shortly after. He was sprawled out on the picnic blanket, but had to shift to sit with his knees pulled closer to his chest as his body conveyed the feeling he had not quite been able to put his finger on all morning. He could have sworn you were moving in slow-motion as you exited the lake with water dripping down your naked form, wet hair clinging to your back.Â
The two of you sat drying off beneath the sun, and Arthur was grateful when he was sufficiently dry and able to redress from the waist down.Â
~~~
You donned your dress again and Arthur laced it back up. The feeling of his fingers brushing against the bare skin of the back of your neck as he did so made you shudder.Â
Just as you were sitting back down to enjoy some lunch, you were interrupted by the sound of a galloping horse growing nearer. Arthur shot up and raised his sword, moving protectively in front of you. To your relief, it was only Merlin.Â
âMerlin!â Arthur yelled frustratedly. âWhat are you doing here?â He returned his sword to its sheath. âThe King requires your immediate presence. Some sort of beast has attacked the lower town.â Merlin panted. He looked worried.Â
~~~
Arthur was furious. He had been providing such a perfect day for you and now you had been startled. Your time in Camelot had been peaceful thus far and Arthur was worried that the mobilisation of his knights would stir painful memories.Â
He swung around to check how you were, but found you already at his horse and shoving the picnic things into the saddle bag. He had taken you out here to relax you and bring you joy, and now you had snapped into survival mode. His heart sunk. âIâll take you back to the castle safely, then Iâll meet the knights.â He promised.Â
Imagine crashing in Arthur's chambers after some tavern drinks...
Part 1 | Part 2
There was a knock on the wooden door followed by a pause and then another slow knock. Arthur groaned at the noise as it interrupted his peaceful state of mind.Â
Who was at his chambers so deep into the night?Â
Sighing, the young prince pulled the covers off and sat up to swing his legs over the edge before taking a stand. Rubbing his face gently with a yawn, Arthur trudged over to his door. Firmly gripping the handle, he propped it open to take a look at his visitor.
Unsurprisingly, the night owl turned out to be his dear friend who was a sporting a lopsided smile.Â
âY/n?â He frowned curiously. What were you doing here at this hour?Â
You placed a finger over your lips and hushed him dramatically.Â
âBe quiet or the walls will hear you.â You urged.
Arthur rest his head against the door panel and closed his eyes. âYou went to the tavern, didnât you?âÂ
âI drank fun!â You beamed loudly, completely disregarding your previous instruction.Â
Arthur widened the doorway to let you in and you accepted the invitation. Your footsteps uneven and showed clear signs of mead consumption. Closing the door behind him, Arthur started to feel more awake as he followed you through the chamber.
âIs this any hour to be drunk especially when we have the tournament ceremony tomorrow?â He asked.
You ignored him, laughing to yourself as you poked at the armour on his table. Then you took him by surprise and gasped, pointing a finger at him.Â
âAre you a knight?âÂ
Arthur rolled his eyes and heaved another exasperated sigh.Â
âAlright, youâre clearly intoxicated.â He said and walked over to the cabinet standing against the wall opposite his bed. He opened the bottom drawer and pulled out a blanket. Bringing it over to the side of his own bed, Arthur laid the soft fabric on the floor and pulled some of his pillows from his bed top to the ground, creating a makeshift bed.Â
He went back to you and gently guided you over as you spoke nonsensically.Â
âYouâre a knight. Maybe I'm a knight? I could be a knight in the night."Â
âYou already are.â Arthur reminded softly as you took a seat on the blanket.
You chuckled to yourself and laid back to rest your head on the pillow. âIâm a knight.â
Arthur pulled the top blanket from his bed and draped it over your shoulders. The comfort you were cocooned in quickly caused your eyelids to drop and, before you knew it, you were fast asleep.
Arthur smiled to himself and then climbed into his own bed, returning to his own calming dreams.
Arthur(Merlin) x reader - in the snow
Hi! If you still write for BBC Merlin would you be able to write an Arthur x Merlin sister Reader? With the dialogue âCan you use magic?â âI feel unsafe answering that.â (from your 2024 prompt list). Thank you if you do write it! <3 - Anonđ
A/N: I realised I had spelled Gaius wrong after finishing this, but Iâm really lazy and donât wanna correct it đđ
You had no real interest in following your brothers footsteps to work for the royal family, you didnât want to work for anybody else.
You were happy living on your own, away from the world with your house and your dog, your horse, your flowers.
You loved the way you lived.
And yes, every so often the knights would come to pick up your money you had to pay for your land, but since you grew your own food and sold your crafts in towns and villages it didnât matter all that much to you.
Today was the day that they came to collect your payment, so you made sure to stay home.
Kneeling down in your garden, you were working on your flowers, carefully tidying them up and trimming them down.
You heard a bark, and you looked up.
âRufus?â
Standing up, you brushed your hands on the cloth and looked to the dirt path where a few horses were coming down.
You grinned brightly when you saw a familiar face.
âMerlin!â
You quickly set everything down and made your way over, the moment your brother got down from his horse your crushed him into a hug.
âHi!â You beamed.
Merlin laughed quietly, hugging you back.
âHey, this place looks amazing.â
You pulled away, grinning proudly at him.
âI take pride in my work.â
You turned around to the knights and the prince that was with him, offering him a bow.
It was swift, elegant, you held a hand behind your back and one over your stomach as you leant down, lowering your head.
âSire, itâs a pleasure to meet you. Iâm (Y/N), I do hope my brother doesnât give you too much trouble.â
âNothing I canât handle, thank you. Itâs nice to meet you.â
You stood up, gesturing to the home.
âRufus is no harm, Iâm sure Sir Lancelot knows that.â
The knight smiled softly at you.
âItâs good to see you again.â
âYou as well, Iâve got that tea you asked me for, would you like me to make you some?â
âYes please, honestly you could open a tea shop because you make the best tea.â
You laughed a little bit, leading them all inside.
Only those three came inside, the other knights waited outside for them.
You sat them at a table, bringing over some bread you had made, and you made them all some tea, setting their cups down in front of them.
âMake yourselves at home, Iâll be right back.â
You went into your room, bringing up a floorboard to gather the money you owed before returning and handing it over.
Then you turned to Arthur.
âMay I ask what brings you by sire? Normally this is not a matter for a Prince.â
âMerlin had been begging me for weeks to come, i guess it was curiosity to finally meet his sister. Youâve done wonderful things with this land. It was rundown the last I saw.â
âThank you, the home itself was in good shape, it was a simple matter of getting some men from the village nearby to help clear it then set everything else up.â
Arthur nodded his head.
âHow is it going? Have you been selling those crafts?â Merlin asked.
âOh yes! People love them! Theyâre very helpful as well, especially for the farmers and the bakers, plant based baskets are easier to replace rather wood, and harder to break.â
Merlin nodded his head.
âYou make things out of plants?â
âYes sire, it is easier to get ahold of around here, theyâre easier to work with as well. Especially Ivy. It is easy to manipulate the way it grows, and you can cut some away with the rest coming back.â
That was what caught his attention first, how compared to Merlin you were calmer, you were respectful to everybody even though you didnât know them, and your craft.
Then there was your house, minimum decorations, just basic things you would need.
But outside was covered in flowers of all colours, the great wolfhound you rescued wondering in and out, and the horse outside just happily grazing in her paddock.
Arthur found himself coming back when he could, pretending to buy things that they needed in Camelot.
It was an excuse to see you, and he could try get there at least once a week since it was only a few hours there and back.
Arthur had to admit he was concerned when it drew to winter, because winter was harsh, and he couldnât see how you would be able to survive there during the brutal winter.
âSheâll be fine, she always is. She knows how to get survive.â Merlin said.
âMerlin we are looking at the worst winter weâve seen in years. Itâs not even winter and weâre already getting snow. Your sister will be isolated out there for months if this carried on.â
Merlin paused what he was doing for a moment before he carried on.
âShe wonât come here.â
âExcuse me?â
â(Y/N), if you ask her to come she wonât come.â
âWhy?â
âBecause she likes her own space, she doesnât like crowded places like this and wouldnât be able to live here for that long, a week or so would be fine.â
Arthur didnât say anything, he carried on reading the book that was sat on the table in front of him.
âSheâs also coming next week, to visit Guis.â
Arthur snapped his head up.
âReally?â
Merlin smirked a little, lowering his head as he carried on working.
âYes sire.â
Arthur threw the book at Merlin who just barely dodged it and he left the room.
You arrived a few days later, staying mostly with Guis or Merlin if you could.
Arthur finally managed to find you while he was heading back inside the castle, you were stood outside with Rufus catching snowballs you threw.
He made his way outside, standing next to you.
âItâs far too cold to be outside.â
You turned around, offering him a smile.
âItâs nothing Iâm not sure to this time of year, I was actually thinking about taking a walk. Do you know any good trails?â
âThere is one, itâs possibly the safest. Iâll accompany you if you donât mind? If anything happens to you I wonât hear the end of it from Merlin.â
You laughed softly at him.
âYes fine by me sire.â
âRight, come wait inside.â
You followed him, and waited in the hallway.
It took a short while for him to come back, and he held out a thicker more elegant cloak out for you.
âWear this.â
âSire I canât, thatâs much to rich for somebody like me.â
â(Y/N) put the cloak on, and call me Arthur.â
You didnât want to disobey him, so you put it on and he led you outside.
You could see that a few people walked the trail, but not many, and you two held light conversation as you walked.
It was nice for him to not have to act so important, and you were talking to him just like a normal person, as if you two were from the same town or village.
You enjoyed stopping to look at simple things, animals in the snow, the way the sunlight gleamed on the snow making it sparkle.
Arthur was just entranced by you, and how you just seemed so happy.
âYouâre always so happy when I see you, why?â
âWhat is there to not be happy about? I have a home, a brother, a mother, I have friends, food. There is always something to be happy about.â
Arthur hummed a little, nodding his head.
âYou wouldnât want more in life?â
âNot when I already have everything. You donât need to be rich to be happy, as long as you find something or someone that makes you happy itâs alright.â
Arthur glanced at you, and he smiled a little.
âThatâs a very different take in the world.â
You beamed brightly at him, kneeling down to make another snowball for Rufus.
âHey, look out!â
Arthur went to grab you but it was too late, you slipped down the hill, and he was rushing as fast as he could behind you.
When he reached the bottom he knelt down.
âHey, hey (Y/N)?â
You grumbled a little, lifting your head to look at him.
âHey, are you okay? Are you hurt?â
âMy leg.â
Arthur nodded, looking down at your leg, gently touching it and you winced in pain.
âHere, come on, letâs move you up.â
Arthur helped you up, and you guys slowly walked along the bottom of the hill to try and find a way back up.
After a while you had to stop, so he took his cloak off and laid it on the snow and sat you down.
Rufus laid next to you letting out a whine.
âIâll try find a way, Iâll be right back.â
You nodded your head, watching him leave.
You knew there wasnât going to be one, a hill like that there wasnât going to be a way back up that wasnât covered in snow.
Making sure it was safe, you held out your hand, whispering something under your breath, and a small trail in the snow fell away, creating a path up.
You ran a hand over your dogs head, scratching behind his ears.
Arthur wasnât gone long, and he came back, shaking his head.
âI couldnât find one, Iâm sorry.â
He knelt next to you, looking at your leg again.
âI did find some sticks though, do you have anything in that bag to help me make a splint?â
âOh, of course.â
Opening it, you pulled out your scarf, handing it over to him.
âItâs not the best, but it should help. Weâll sit here and rest, then keep going. I think thereâs a storm coming in.â
âI think I saw a path just over there, could you look?â
Arthur looked at where you were pointing.
âYeah, of course.â
He got up, checking.
He made sure it was stable before grabbing you, helping you up it, then he crouched down.
âGet on.â
âI canât do that, a Prince canât be seen carrying someone like me.â
âI donât care, youâre hurt, get on.â
You sighed, climbing on his back and he stood up, making his way back where you guys had come from.
âIâll take you to Guis, hopefully you leg isnât that bad.â
You nodded, resting your chin on his shoulder.
âHow did you see the path, I didnât see it.â
âMaybe in the panic you missed it? Or it blended in the with snow?â
âNo, no it definitely wasnât there.â
Arthur went quiet for a few moment.
âThereâs only one thing I can think off.â
âWhatâs that Arthur?â
He paused walking, crouching down to set you on the ground before turning around to look at you.
âCan you use magic?â
You tried not to react.
âI feel unsafe answering that.â
â(Y/N), can you use magic?
âIf I say yes youâll have me killed, if I say no youâre not going to believe me, and have me killed. Iâm sorry but I canât answer.â
Arthur narrowed his eyes a little bit, and he spun around to a noise behind him but there was nothing.
Turning back around his cloak and yours were on the ground, and you and Rufus were both gone, leaving not even a footprint in the snow
It's A Trap!
summary : Prince Arthur uses reader to lure Merlin out whenever he is hiding from him.
word count : 0.5k
type : imagines
pairing/s involved : Merlin x Reader (?)
warning/s : none. just Merlin pining over reader and Arthur being an ass.
here is my masterlist!
Note : I thought of this when I watched the clip where Arthur is looking for Merlin and he was hiding behind the door. đ It was a one shot before and I heavily edited it too.
There is no denying that Prince's Arthur's manservant is in love with (Y/N), a noble lady from one of the most prestigious houses in Camelot.
Everyone, even Arthur himself, knows it. And that's saying something. đŤ˘đ
From the way Merlin would stare at you with heart in his eyes, how he would follow you everywhere like a dog, or his ears pick up whenever he hears your name.
Gaius almost wants to take a leaf out of Van Gogh's book and tear off his own ears because Merlin wouldn't shut up about you. He also writes about you in his letters for Hunith.
Now, does Arthur take advantage of it? Of course, he does. Like,"Do you know Lady (Y/N) would be there?" or "If you fetch flowers for Gwen, you could also get some for your lady love."
The epitome of the statement, however, is making you his trap. Confused? I'll explain further later.
"Merlin?! Where are you?!"
It's very common for the palace staff to hear the prince of Camelot blaringly calling out to his manservant. Although some people catch Merlin scurrying away from him or has an idea of his whereabouts, no one bothers to tell Arthur anything.
After all, it's completely understandable and why many servants can empathize. As admirable and honorable the prince is, he can be a handful at times.
That's where you come in.
Whenever Arthur has given up searching for Merlin, he would search for you instead.
He often finds you in the gardens with the other noble ladies, helping some servants with menial tasks, or having tea with Morgana and Gwen. Uther enjoys your company too, making the usual stoic ruler laugh and gossip.
"May I excuse Lady (Y/N)? I need her assistance with something."
"Is it Merlin again?"
"...Yes."
You would go to Gaius' chambers, the kitchens, servant's quarters, or anywhere Merlin could've gone to. Then, you would tell anyone that you're looking for him to speak about personal matters and you'll be waiting for him with a place of your choice.
Arthur would wait with you, but he's hiding where Merlin can't see him.
Why do you continue helping the royal prat? It's because you find it funny.
You're also curious, thinking how long will it take Merlin to stop seeking you out because most of the time it's just one of Arthur's traps.
The prince's knights bet on it. Gwaine and Leon are winningâ saying how Merlin will never learn.
It's true, he doesn't. I guess love does make you an idiot.
Merlin always approaches you with a beaming grin on his face and blushed cheeks, acting like a lovesick school boy.
"My lady, you were looking for me?"
"Well you see..."
Arthur would wait for Merlin to get closer before grabbing the manservant in his clutches.
"Here you are, you idiot!"
Sometimes Merlin would free himself and run, sometimes he doesn't and Arthur would drag him away while warning him of possible punishments.
But he never misses the chance to look back and give you the most charming smile anyone has ever graced you with.
"Merlin really loves you, doesn't he?" You hear Gwen beside you, linking your arm with hers. Nervous and worried, you replyâ
"Yes. I just hope that I get to tell Merlin that I share his affections. But Arthur is always with him."
BBC Merlin x Reader - My Startled Stoat
Fandom: BBC Merlin
Pairing: Merlin x Reader
Summary: So, I came across this meme thing on Insta comparing pics of Merlin against stoats and the resemblance was uncanny. And then there was a comment about imagine if there was an episode where Merlin turned himself into a stoat by accident and Gwen and Gaius had to hurry to turn him back. And I said challenge accepted...
ââ
Merlin wouldâve sighed if he could. This wasnât exactly the result that he had intended. What was he going to do? He certainly couldnât stay like this...
His ears perked up at the sound of a familiar voice.
âMerlin!â You called out as you walked through the part of the woods that the court physician had sent him to, âGaius said that he sent you to gather herbs and that you were to return hours ago. Where are you?â
You stumbled as you trod over something, causing you to look down. A basket full of herbs and Merlinâs boots...along with all of Merlinâs clothes. Well, at least you were in the right place. But where on earth was Merlin?
âMerlin?â you called out again, looking around for him.
The sound of rustling cloth drew your attention back down and you got the shock of your life when a stoat popped out of neckline of Merlinâs shirt. The animal scuttled forward and came to a stop in front of you. You blinked down at it, eyebrow raised at the unusually tame behaviour. There was also something about the colouring that struck you. The creamy underbelly and dark brunette fur, coupled along with the eyes. The stoat possessed the most brilliant blue eyes that you had ever seen. You knew those eyes. They were just like -
Wait. No...
Slowly, you lowered yourself down onto one knee, peering closer at the stoatâs face.
âMerlin?â your voice had taken on an incredulous tone.
The stoat bounded forward, placed its paws on your knee and nodded. Your eyebrows nearly shot right off your forehead as you slapped a hand over your mouth.
âOh my god...â
ââ
âGAIUS!â you called out as you came charging through the door, basket of herbs in one hand and Merlinâs clothes in the other, âGaius, help!â
The physician hurried over towards you, worry etched into his face, âWhatâs wrong? Whereâs Merlin?â
You set the clothes and boots down on the bench before placing the basket on the table and reaching inside to thrust the stoat-Merlin in front of you.
âHere.â
Gaius raised his eyebrows, looking back and forth between you and Merlin a couple of times before meeting your eyes. It was only when you nodded firmly, lips pressed together in a straight line that Gaius realised that you werenât joking.
âOh, my...quite the predicament.â Gaius remarked with a weary sigh.
You set Merlin down on the table with care before turning back to Gaius.
âWhat are we going to do?â
Gaius sighed again as he folded is arms across his chest.
âFind some way to undo what has been done, I suppose.â Gaius shot the stoat a disapproving look, âAt the very least, I hope that this will be a memorable lesson as to why magic should be practiced with caution.â
Stoat-Merlin had the good grace to bow his head and look ashamed. Gaius pursed his lips before turning his attention back to you.
âI have a few patients to tend to before I can go to the library to see if thereâs a book that can help us find a way to turn Merlin back. In the meantime, I suggest looking in the grimoire I passed down to Merlin. No doubt that whatever mischief heâs gotten himself into now came from there.â
You nodded and watched Gaius leave, turning to Merlin once the door was shut.
âWell? Where do you keep this grimoire?â
Merlin bounded to the other end of the table, rearing up on his hind legs to look pointedly at his bedroom door before looking back at you.
âI see...â you pressed your lips together before swallowing, âLetâs go.â
You picked Merlin up off the table before making your way up the stairs. Merlin squirmed out of your arms, paws scrabbling across the floorboards as you hesitated in the doorway. You had never been in Merlinâs room before, let alone the room of any man, for that matter. Just the idea of being in Merlinâs room felt strangely intimate. But what other choice did you have? You exhaled as you crossed the threshold.
âWhere do you keep it, Merlin?â
Stoat-Merlin circled around a certain spot, making a scratching sound as he pawed at the floor.
âHmm...â you hummed as you knelt down, tapping on the wood.
The hollow echo had you raising your eyebrows.
âRight.â
You pressed at the boards, eventually working out how to prise up the lid to the hidden compartment. You set it aside before reaching down to take out what could only be the grimoire wrapped in a linen cloth.
âYou really are full of secrets, Merlin.â you murmured as the book was revealed before your eyes.
You moved to sit on the edge of Merlinâs bed, book resting in your lap as you flicked through the pages. Stoat-Merlin moved across the bedsheets in a jittery manner, almost circling you. It must be so frustrating for poor MerlinâŚhe probably knew exactly what page and spell you needed to be looking at, but had no way of being able to communicate that to you. After a few moments you paused in your turning of the pages, sighing in frustration.
âIâm afraid Iâm not of much use...I donât know what Iâm meant to be looking for, let alone where to start.â
Stoat-Merlin blinked up at you with his wide blue eyes before nudging your hand with his head. You smiled at the gesture, it was almost as if he were trying to encourage you. You and Merlin continued to stare at each other for a few minutes before you spared a glance at the book only to look back at him.
âDid you want to give it a try? See if you could do a littleâŚyou know.â
You wiggled your fingers back and forth between your eyes and the grimoire in a poor imitation of Merlin using his magic. Stoat-Merlin blinked and you werenât sure whether or not he was thinking about how much of an idiot you were. Stoat-Merlin soon turned his gaze to the book lying open in your lap and continued to surprise you when his eyes suddenly went from blue to gold. You jumped as the pages started to move, almost as if an unseen hand was flicking through them furiously. When the pages finally settled, your sent Merlin a sidelong glance of approval.
âGood job, Merlin.â you smiled as you scratched the top of his head, just behind his ears.
Your smile widened as you watched the stoat close his eyes, seeming to be thoroughly loving the attention. The moment was short-lived when his blue eyes snapped open and he tried to shake his head away. You laughed as you withdrew your hand, more than certain that Merlin was doing the stoat equivalent of pouting.
âSorry...now, letâs see where it all went wrong...â you murmured as you inspected the spells in front of you, âOh, look! These pages are stuck together. Guess thatâs probably why...oh.â
You trailed off as you leaned closer to inspect the mix up, âOh, dear...interesting little pickle youâve gotten yourself into, Merlin.â
You sighed at the forlorn look those blue eyes were giving you.
âCome along, then. Letâs see what we can do about it.â you stood with the grimoire and made your way down to Gaiusâ work station, Merlinâs stoat body bounding along behind you.
â
You were crushing up the ingredients needed for the reversal potion with a mortar and pestle when the unmistakable sound of a disgruntled prince roaring Merlinâs name sounded down the hall. You froze as you locked eyes with Merlin, panic radiating off the both of you. Of all the times for Arthur to come looking for his manservant...
Abandoning the task at hand, you scooped up Stoat-Merlin and circled the spot where you stood, desperate for somewhere to hide him. In your panic, you decided to hide him in the first place that came to mind. But not before apologising for what you were about to do. You held up Stoat-Merlin to your face, looking him in the eye.
âIâm so sorry.â
And with that sincere apology, you proceeded to shove Stoat-Merlin down the neckline of your bodice. You froze as Prince Arthur threw the door open, clasping your hands together behind your back. Thankfully, Stoat-Merlin had stilled beneath your clothes. You were however, very aware of the heavy thump of his heart as it beat in his tiny furry body against your breastbone.
âYour Highness.â you greeted the prince with a slight bow.
You did a subtle shuffle as you straightened, praying that your upright body was enough to hide the grimoire lying open on the table behind you.
âHave you seen Merlin?â
âNo, sire,â you lied blatantly, âIâm looking for him myself.â
âWhere is he?â
âOut running errands with Gaius, I suppose. Shall I tell him that youâre looking for him when he returns?â
âYes, and when you see him, tell to report to me immediately.â
âOf course, sire.â
You bow in farewell as the prince leaves, sighing in relief when the door shuts behind him. You gasp at the feeling of Stoat-Merlin squirming against you, reaching a hand into your clothes to pull him out.
âIâm so sorry!â
Stoat-Merlin has his head in his paws, unable to look you in the eye. You on the other hand, look at him with desperation; your cheeks aflame with embarrassment.
âIâm so sorry, Merlin! But we couldnât risk Arthur seeing you in this state and...and I panickedâŚâ you wrung your hands together, cheeks flushing scarlet, âat least I didnât tell him you were at the tavernâŚâ
Merlinâs paws dropped to his sides and he scuttled over to stand beside the motar and pestle, eager to get this over with. You pressed your hands over your face as you took a breath, willing the heat to dissipate from your face before striding over. You followed the last of the instructions; scooping out a spoonful of the paste into a bowl. You carefully measured out the correct amount of water before stirring it all together, the paste soon turning into a bittersweet smelling soup.
âBottoms up, Merlin.â you grimaced as you slid the bowl over in his direction, hoping for his sake that the potion would taste better than it smelled.
Stoat-Merlin lapped up as much as he could before bounding over to you. You scooped him up, holding him close as you leaned over the book. You had thought it best that you be the one to read the spell out loud, seeing as stoats couldnât talk. Hopefully if Merlin read the incantation as you said it, that would be enough to undo the mess of a spell he had made.
You didnât notice the glow in his eyes as you read the spell, but what you couldnât ignore was the loud, smoky explosion that happened immediately after. A yelp left your mouth as the force of it knocked you to the ground. Oh, god...the spell had gone wrong, horribly wrong. You felt heavy and pinned down, and you wouldnât know the extent of your predicament until this confounded smoke cleared up... "Oh."
It was the only sound you could make as you found yourself face to face with a very human, very naked Merlin. You kept your eyes locked onto his and refused to let them wander as your hands found his shoulders. "The spell worked...?" "Yes." Merlin's voice sounded deeper than you were used to, it made your heart skip a beat. You didn't say another word as you pressed your hands over your face to give Merlin privacy. You felt his body leave yours and heard the sound of his clothes rustling as he got dressed. It was only when Merlin pried your hands away that you dared to open your eyes. "Are you hurt?" Merlin asked as he pulled you to your feet. "N-no." An awkward silence hung in the room as you and Merlin struggled to hold each other's gaze, both desperate to break the silence but not knowing what to say. You thanked your stars when Gaius walked in, grateful for the interruption. For the rest of the day, despite your best efforts, your thoughts continued to be plagued with thoughts of blue eyes and crushed velvet.
Arrange love?
Arthur Pendragon
Arthur had been enjoying his day training with the knights and making Merlin's life a misery. Doing the dirtiest chores he could think of. He was soon called by his father, King Uther, and he was seething with anger when he heard what his father had to say. He wanted him to marry some princess that he had never met.
An arranged marriage.
He made his way straight to the training grounds and began to take his anger out on one of the wooden dummies. No one went near him. What angered him the most was that his father never told him he was engaged as he had been since he was 10. He has been engaged for 10 years.
However, as he was destroying the dummy, he didn't notice someone walk up to him.
"You know if you do not pay attention. You are going to get ambushed." Arthur smiles at the voice as he turned around to face his childhood friend.
She was smiling softly at him as she stood there. He walked up to her and immediately pulled her into a hug, which she returned. As he pulled back from the hug he asked why she was in Camelot.
"My father said that I would be a bride, yet I do not know who I am marrying." She told him with a small smile.
"I hope it is me."
"Why?" She asked with a cute confused face.
"My father has just informed me I am in an arranged marriage," Arthur explained to her. "Also, I could not possibly let someone have you when I have fallen for you."
Y/n's face flushed bright red as she stuttered about what to say next. She took some deep breaths before kissing his cheek and wishing he was her groom-to-be. They heard someone clearing their throat. They turned to see their fathers.
They both had smirks on their faces.
They looked at one another and grinned as they knew what their fathers were about to inform them.
Arthur kisses her and they melted into one another. They smiled into the kiss as they heard their fathers cheering for them.
The end.
Hello! Could you do a merlin x reader to the prompt accidentally referencing them as "my". Maybe Merlin accidentally references the reader as his s/o when speaking to arthur or smthg and arthur gets all oooo and starts questioning merlin only for the reader to come into the room and Arthur just starts teasing them and it all ends in merlin confessing his feelings? Thank you!!!
<< Part 2 | Part 3 (not posted yet) >>
⢠A/N:
It's actually the first time I write for the show! i'm happy there's still people who loves it! Please keep sending me requests for any characters of the show (bonus points if it's Mordred! i freaking loooove him!)
I kept the idea of Merlin refering to reader as 'my' but changed the plot because i couldn't find how to write it... i really hope you don't mind...
AND I AM SOOOO SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG TO WRITE! And i also apologise to the other people who sent me requests! i have a major writing block at the moment, and i didn't want to write something that would be bad... y'all trust me with your ideas, i only want to give you guys the best <3
With the tourney coming up, Camelot was bustling; servants were running back and forth, preparing rooms for the lords and ladies that would come. And Arthur didn't spare Merlin, who already had tones of chores to do... And more chores meant he wouldn't be spending time with you any time soon...
It wasn't really a secret that the young man had a crush on you; though he thought he was hiding it good enough, pretty much everyone saw it. Yes, even Arthur; he was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to tease Merlin about it.
And it's the day of the tourney that said opportunity came.
...
The day was just as chaotic as you would expect it to be. Servants and squires running around the grounds of the castle to get what their lords want; Horses were being tended to; Ladies could be seen occasionaly, looking for the knight they wished to give their favors to... And Arthur was being Arthur. He made Merlin run to his room to get him something that he forgot (of course he said that it was Merlin who forgot it).
Merlin was running in one of the corridors, dodging other servants and guards, apologising when he knocked into someone. But in his hurry, he spotted you carrying a basket of what looked like bed sheets. Merlin had not seen you in maybe 2 or 3 days. He was running so fast that when he saw you and tried to stop to talk to you, he tripped over his own feet, and fell face first on the hard ground, and what he was carrying ended up flying at the end of the corridor.
People around didn't stop to help him; some looked at him laying on the ground but kept walking. Everyone except you. You ran up to him.
"Merlin? Merlin, are you okay?"
You put your hand on his shoulder lightly. He growned in pain, holding the side of his head.
"I think I'm okay, but I have hit my head pretty hard..."
He said. Merlin knew that he would be okay, he could use magic to heal himself.
"Are you sure? Maybe we should get Gaius to check if you are really okay..."
He knew he shouldn't smiled but seeing you so worried for him was making him flustered. He sat up slowly, his hand still holding the side of his head.
"No, no, really I'm good... I have to go back to Arthur's tent to help him finish getting ready for the tourney. This dollophead can't do it alone."
He laughed. The last comment made you chuckle. It was impressive how Merlin could talk to the Prince and not get punished for it... You helped him stand up, making sure he could actually stand on his two feets.
"Alright Merlin, you go help him... but stop running please. You are going to really hurt yourself one day..."
He chuckled, and before he could really think, he kissed your forehead.
"Don't worry, my (Y/n), i wont!"
It took Merlin a second, seeing your red face, to realise what he had just done and said. Which resulted in him blushing just as much as you. He started stuttering, trying to apologise and his heart was racing. You found that endearing. You thought he was adorable.
Unbeknownst to both of you, Arthur, who was getting impatient seeing as Merlin had not come back, was standing at the end of the corridor, watching. Now, he had what he wanted to tease Merlin as much as much as possible...
"(Y/n) I- hum- I'm sorry I- I don't know why I did that-"
"Merlin, it's okay, no need to apologise..."
You said calmly. You just looked at eachother for a second before you both smiled. You were looking at the ground, with red cheeks, but Merlin couldn't look away from you, completely entranced by you. You cleared your throat before saying:
"I should go or I'm going to be yelled at.... And Arthur is going to be mad if you don't come back soon... But we could talk again, later..."
His heart was pounding so hard, he was sure you could hear it.
"Yes- Y-Yes, absolutely! Can't wait!"
He said breathlessly. You picked up your basket.
"Then , see you later."
You stood on your tip toes, and kissed his cheek. You gave him one last smile and left. Merlin stood there, smiling like a dork, watching you leave. When you turned a corner and disappeared from sight, a heavy hand landed on his shoulder. And when he turned, he saw Arthur smiling mischievously.
"I send you to my chambers to get something, and find you flirting with (Y/n)- Let me rephrase this. Flirting with your (Y/n)~"
Merlin became red from neck to the tip of his ears. It was really his luck... He wouldn't hear the end of it. Arthur added:
"I can't blame you, Merlin. They're very pretty... And it's about time you do something about that crush you have on them, because I was getting frustrated to see you all desesperate to get their attention..."
"Oh, you mean desesperate like you are when Guinevere is in your vicinity...?"
The words flew out of his mouth before he had time to stop them. Arthur looked at Merlin with raised eyebrows, as if saying 'oh, are we really doing that now...?'. Merlin started taking small steps backward, before breaking into a full sprint with Arthur chasing after him...
dead and gone and buried
a/n: i'm deep in my gwaine brain rot right now so have a cute/angsty lil fic summary: Y/N looses someone she loves and leans on Gwaine in the darkest hours.
The early spring mornings were one of the highlights of Y/Nâs day. As she meandered through the corridors of the castle, she caught glimpses of the morning sun slowly rising, bathing the white stone walls in orange.
Each sunrise brought with it a new day and a fresh start.
It also brought along one knight and a large plate of breakfast.
"What is it today, Sir Gwaine?" Y/N asked, walking down the corridor and toward Gwaine.
Gwaine was half dressed, cloak draped and folded over one shoulder, chain mail roughly tucked into his belt. He held a large plate in one hand, gloves in the other.
"I believe it is pork with leftovers from last night," he replied, coming to a stop beside Y/N. "There's some apple, some... I think potatoes?"
Y/N peered at the plate. She nodded. "Potatoes."
She reached out and snatched one off the plate, dodging Gwaine's pitiful attempt at slapping her hand with his gloves.
"Have you not got things to be doing?" He asked, shielding his plate from her.
"Oh, I have a lengthy list," she replied, "but I would much rather be taunting you than helping people get dressed."
Gwaine chuckled. He tossed his head back, letting his hair fall out of his face. "I should probably go and get ready."
Y/N nodded, gently sweeping her foot across the floor. "Do you need a hand?" She asked, looking up at him.
"Uh..." Gwaine looked at himself, taking in his mismatched state of dress. "Please," he replied, his smile growing.
Gwaine leant across Y/N and placed his plate of breakfast down on the window sill. She pulled his cloak from his shoulder and took his gloves.
Y/N held Gwaine's clothes as he untangled his chain mail from his belt and awkwardly dragged it down over his head. She watched, angling her eyes down when Gwaine looked up, flicking his hair out from under the shirt.
He reached out and took his cape from her, his fingers brushing against the back of her hand. In one, rather dramatic, swoop, he put the cape around his shoulders and pulled the buckle tight, letting the cape settle around his shoulders.
With a smile, Y/N slapped the gloves into Gwaine's hands. "Good morrow, Sir Knight."
Gwaine bowed to her, sweeping his cloak out behind him. "Good morrow, Lady Y/N."
Y/N giggled. "You better get going unless you want our wonderful king to yell at you."
"He yells at me all the time," Gwaine replied, pulling his gloves on. "It'll be nothing new."
He leant across and pressed a kiss to Y/N's cheek. Gwaine stepped back and nodded at her, turning on his heel and walking down the corridor.
Y/N shook her head, a fond smile on her face, and began walking the opposite direction.
//
"Gwaine, if you spent more time watching your opponent, you'd spend less time on the floor." Arthur yelled, stabbing his sword into the grass.
Y/N laughed softly as she walked past. Gwaine was, indeed, lying sprawled on the grass, his sword flung miles away. He rolled over onto his stomach, his eyes catching on Y/N as she passed. She waved to him and he awkwardly waved back to her.
When she got a chance, Y/N always went for a walk down past the training ground. Partly so she could watch Gwaine try and partly because she could breathe in the fresh air and stroll amongst the upper town.
There was only so much pretentious behaviour Y/N could take from those in the castle before she lost her mind.
"Lady Y/N?"
Y/N turned her head, coming face to face with a flush-faced, out-of-breath messenger.
She nodded. Y/N patiently waited as the messenger fiddled with this bag, struggling to find the piece of parchment he was meant to give her.
Eventually he found it, whipping it out the bag with a flourish. He handed it to Y/N and, before she could even unfolded it, ran off back into the upper town, dodging through the crowds.
The wax seal popped off easily. Y/N unfolded the letter, all ready knowing what it would say.
She'd been waiting for this letter for months. Ever since her father had retired from his role as secretary of state because of his declining health, she'd been waiting for the letter that summoned her home to be at his death bed.
'It's time to come home.'
There it was, written in black ink and folded into a square.
"You alright?"
Y/N jumped, dropping the letter and stumbling back over a tiny pebble on the ground. Gwaine, who'd made her jump in the first place, caught her by the waist and stabled her, setting her back on her own two feet.
"Sorry," he said, wincing. "I thought you'd heard me."
"No, I hadn't," Y/N breathed, still recovering. "I was -"
"Reading?" Gwaine held out her letter to her. "Is it your father?" He asked as she took it, clutching the letter to her chest.
Y/N had confided in Gwaine about her father's health long ago. He'd been the one to watch out for him during council meetings, escorting him back to his chambers when he'd been to unwell to stay any longer.
Gwaine had been a silent supporter for Y/N as she tried to cope with her father and her job in the castle. When her father had retired and returned back to their home village, Gwaine had held her hand as she watched him disappear through the gates.
So it was with no surprise that Y/N turned to her best friend and said "yes... he most likely won't survive the week."
Gwaine took a step closer, reaching down and gently grabbing Y/N's hand, cradling it in his.
"When are you going?" He asked, lowering his voice as a group of knights passed by, laughing loudly.
Y/N shrugged. The wind picked up, blowing her hair in front of her eyes and she brushed it back, ignoring the headdress she'd pinned to her hair.
Gwaine reached up with his other hand and caught her hand. He brushed her hair back, untangling it from the headdress. His hand lowered, brushing against her cheek before returning to his side.
"It's an hour or two away," Y/N said softly, "so either before nightfall or first thing tomorrow morning."
"I'll come with you."
"No, Gwaine, I can't ask you to do that -"
Gwaine cut her off, putting a hand to her cheek. "I offered. I don't want you to be alone, that's all."
Y/N nodded, swallowing back the tears building in her eyes. "Thank you," she whispered.
//
Atheyers was quiet as they rode into the town. The townsfolk had begun lighting lanterns and shutting windows, settling down for the night.
Gwaine helped Y/N down from her horse and, hand in hand, they walked up to the big, wooden timbered house, that was Y/N's family home.
Inside the atmosphere was sombre and almost stifling with grief. For a moment, Y/N thought she was too late. But then she saw her brother rush down the stairs and her panic eased slightly.
"You're just in time," Isaac whispered, embracing his sister tightly. "Come on." He turned, looking at Gwaine. "You too, Sir Gwaine."
The room was quiet, lit candles providing warmth and a calming light.
Y/N walked in, hiding behind her brother for a second. She peered round and saw her father lying in bed, looking pale and fragile.
"Y/N's here, father," her brother whispered.
Y/N glanced behind, searching for Gwaine's reassuring gaze. He stood in the shadows, quietly watching. When he caught her gaze, he nodded and gave her a reassuring smile.
She stepped forward and crouched down beside the bed. "I'm here, father," she said softly, taking his hand in hers. "You can rest now."
//
Bird song greeted Gwaine the next morning. He'd fallen asleep in a chair that sat outside the bedroom, against the wall of the corridor. He stretched as he stood up, rubbing his face.
The door creaked slightly as he pushed it open, peering inside. Y/N was asleep beside her father, still curled on the floor, her head resting on the mattress, arm folded under her head.
Gwaine knew that her father had passed. There was a new, peaceful silence in the room broken only by the birds tweeting outside.
He approached Y/N and knelt down beside her, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Y/N," he whispered, shaking her gently. "Hey..."
Y/N lifted her head, looking up at Gwaine. "He's gone."
"I know. I'm sorry," he whispered, stroking her hair.
Y/N sat back, leaning against Gwaine's chest. He shifted, kneeling behind her, pulling her into his lap.
They sat there for a moment. Y/N held Gwaine's hand tightly and closed her eyes.
//
They gathered on the shore of Lake Riveia, watching the boat containing the body of Y/N's father burn.
Y/N stood at the edge of the shore, her brother next to her. Dressed in black, she looked like a shadow in the afternoon sunlight.
Gwaine stood with the other knights, capes blowing in the breeze, heads bowed. Arthur stood along side them - not as a king but as a knight himself.
After a while, those gathered began to walk back to the castle, until Y/N and Gwaine were all who remained.
"How are you?" Gwaine asked, coming to stand by Y/N's sad, his shoulder brushing against her.
"Coping," she whispered, her eyes still fixed on the burning boat in the distance. After a moments pause, she turned to face Gwaine. "Thank you for being here."
Gwaine raised his eyebrows, slightly surprised. "Of course," he replied. "I wouldn't be anywhere else."
"I know but... I'm grateful for the fact you even stayed to check on me," Y/N replied, chuckling sadly. "Not many do."
"Not many love you like I do."
Y/N smiled, looking down at the ground. Gwaine reached over and placed his finger under her chin, gently guiding her head up until she was looking at him.
"I love you, Y/N," he said softly, tucking her hair behind her ear. He rested his hand against her cheek and Y/N leant into it. "I love you with so much of my heart, none is left to protest."
"That's good," Y/N said, giggling quietly. "I don't think I could cope with you denying your feelings." She paused, pressing her lips together. "I think I do enough for both of us."
Gwaine gently turned Y/N by her shoulders until she faced him. She looked up, staring into his eyes, suddenly remembering just how beautiful his brown eyes were.
Slowly, Y/N leant forward, her eyes closing. Gwaine pressed his lips to hers, his hands resting on her hips. Y/N raised her arms, threading her fingers through his hair, untangling the curls.
They pulled apart, resting their foreheads together.
"I finally have my own knight," Y/N whispered, shoulders shaking as she giggled.
"And I my lady," Gwaine replied, pressing another kiss to her lips. "Forever and always."
Y/N stepped closer and kissed Gwaine again, holding him as tightly as she could.
The Prince's Heart
You used to spend your summers in Camelot, making quite the little troublemaking trio with Arthur and Morgana as children. After the collapse of your father's kingdom years later, you flee to Camelot for refuge. Having both grown into adults since your last meeting, the old friendly feelings between you and Arthur have shifted into something different. Neither you nor Arthur have an easy life. You both need stability and security, but are you able to provide that for one another, or do you simply bring more turmoil to each other's lives?
Chapter 1
As the trees thinned and Camelot came into view, relief washed over you. Less than half a dayâs ride left. You were practically delirious. It had been five days and you had struggled to sleep. When your father had been slaughtered, you knew the war had been won. The five guards who had been with you had managed to smuggle you out of the city. Only three remained and one had ridden ahead to send word of your arrival.Â
It had been years since you had visited Camelot. Your father and Uther had been close friends and political allies as their kingdoms neighboured each other and you had therefore often spent many months at a time in his court. It pained you to return under such circumstances. The childhood innocence you had possessed on your last visit was long gone and you despised having to turn to your fatherâs friend in desperation and need of protection. But your kingdom was no longer yours. It had been conquered, and you would have been tortured and killed had you remained.Â
~~~
You almost began to cry when Uther greeted you at the palace gates. He helped you down from your horse and caught you in strong, fatherly arms. âLady [y/n],â he greeted, holding your hands in his, âI am so terribly sorry for the hardships you have faced. Your father was a great man. Have no doubt that your residency in my court is my privilege to provide for as many years as you desire it.â âThank you.â You managed, allowing yourself to finally drop your guard now that you were safely inside Camelotâs walls. âCome, I will escort you to your rooms.â Uther asserted, taking your weight and guiding you inside.Â
~~~
You slept for a long time. You felt much improved when you awoke in a large, soft, warm bed. It was dark, except for the warm glow of the fire crackling away in the hearth opposite your bed. Finally, you allowed a few tears to escape you. Your father was not a good man, but you had hoped to bring prosperity to your kingdom once you became queen. Despite your desires, you had not wanted him gone so soon. You were simply not ready to rule, but it still stung that even the opportunity to rule had been taken from you. You hugged your knees to your chest and allowed yourself to sob until you could cry no more and you had exhausted yourself once more, falling into another deep yet troubled sleep.Â
~~~
When you awoke again, it was morning. The sun was still low in the sky and it was quiet. The fire had burnt out and there was a slight chill in the air, although it was sufficiently warm beneath your duvet, a luxury you had taken for granted before having to flee the comfort of your home.Â
A young woman entered your room quietly, carrying a basket of firewood in one arm and a tray bearing a carafe and goblet in the other. âOh, pardon me, Lady [y/n]â the woman began when she noticed you, âI didnât expect you to be awake so early.â She apologised. âItâs no bother at all.â You reassured, sitting upright and readjusting the duvet so that it still covered you and kept you warm. âIâm glad of the company.â She smiled at you sadly. âIâm so terribly sorry to hear what you have endured.â She commented, setting down the tray and the basket. âThank you.â You replied numbly as she began to arrange the logs in the fireplace. âIâm Gwen, by the way,â she divulged as she struck a match and lowered it to the logs. âIâm the Lady Morganaâs handmaid, but Iâm looking after you until someone can be assigned permanently.â She explained, the fire catching quickly. âThank you, Gwen.â You thanked, feeling as though it was impossible to convey your gratitude to her for the simple act of lighting you a fire. She poured you some water and handed it to you. Forgetting your manners, you drained the cup. It had been a long time since you had tasted water that you hadnât had to boil first. Gwen refilled your cup immediately. âI can bring you some breakfast if youâd like?â She suggested, noticing your stomach rumbling as, in quenching your thirst, your body had remembered one of its other requirements for survival. âYes please.â You replied apologetically. You felt guilty having her running around after you, but it was also extremely comforting, knowing that you were not on your own any more.Â
~~~
You breakfasted, you bathed, and you dressed in a gown which the Lady Morgana had gifted to you. You had fled your kingdom in such a hurry that multiple dresses was the least of your concerns. You sat a while in front of the fire, vowing to never take comfortable and reliable warmth for granted again, but were interrupted by a knock at the door.Â
â[y/n]â the Lady Morgana greeted, flinging her arms around you in a tight embrace. âMorgana,â you greeter in return, hugging her equally as tightly. It had been years since you had last seen on e another, but you still considered her one of your truest and oldest friends. You had sent many letters back and forth in those years, however, therefore you had never truly lost contact with her. âI was devastated to hear about your situation.â Morgana confessed, stepping into your room. âI cannot tell you how glad I was when Uther told me that you had come to us and had arrived safely. Iâve been pestering Gwen all morning to inform me as soon as you were up so that I could come to see you.â âIâm glad you came,â you confessed, leading her over to your sofa âYour company has never failed to bring me joy.âÂ
~~~
You spent the day with Morgana. You wandered around the city and the castle, visiting all of your favourite spots which you used to frequent, and chatting all the while. Her company truly brought you so much comfort and you began to feel somewhat at home in Camelot.Â
Your initial few days in the city consisted of long daily walks with your friend and dinner with her and Uther in the evening. They did all they could to make you feel welcome and secure, and you seemed to slot perfectly into their dynamic. The only person missing as Arthur, who had been out hunting since the day before you arrived and was due back any day now. In the past, yourself, Morgana and Arthur had formed quite the little trio and would cause much mischief in Camelot, and you longed for his return which you felt would make you feel completely settled.Â
~~~
Four days after your arrival in Camelot, Arthur returned. You were preparing for sleep when an urgent knock at your door startled you. You hurried over and were ambushed by a tight hug from your old friend. Neither of you had to say anything, the strength with which he held you conveyed his deepest sympathies and the tightness with which you gripped to him with in return conveyed every emotion you had felt in the past week.Â
Finally, Arthur released you from his arms. He looked different, older. Obviously he had aged in the years since you had last seen him, but he looked like a man now. He was tall and well-built, his shoulders had broadened and the visible hair on his chest beneath his tunic in combination with the slight shadow of stubble on his chin made him appear more manly than the mischievous boy you had left him as years ago.Â
Observing how your friend had changed since last you saw him, you suddenly became conscious of how you had grown from a girl into a woman. It was the first time you had really felt aware of the fullness of your breasts and hips, worrying that Arthur would notice how your nightgown did little to conceal your womanly curves.Â
âYouâre not a little girl any more.â Arthur stated, leaning against your doorframe and crossing his arms across his chest. âKeen observation.â You quipped, appreciating how easy you still found it to jest with him. âWant to raid the kitchens for a midnight feast, for old timeâs sake?â He asked, as if testing whether you still possessed your youthful mischief. âPrince Arthur of Camelot, you are quite the little troublemaker.â You chastised playfully, grabbing a cloak from where it hung beside the door and ushering him into the corridor. Â
~~~
âWow.â Was all Arthur could manage over his half-eaten plate of bread and cheese. You had recounted your journey to Camelot, including your own skilful swordsmanship and killing of half a dozen soldiers. âI donât think I could have done it unless I had to.â You admitted, setting your plate down beside where you were sitting on the worktop. âYou always did manage to beat me when we would spar as children.â Arthur mused begrudgingly. You laughed a little. âBefore all of this happened, what did you get up to?â He asked, quickly changing the subject to something a little lighter. Arthur hadnât realised how much he really had missed you, but also noted that you had changed so much in the years since he had last seen you. âI paint, mainly. I still like to train and fight, but my father wouldnât allow it once I came of age so I had to train by myself whenever I could slip away. I spent most of my time down by the river when I wasnât needed in counsel.â âIt sounds nice.â He replied. âIt was, for the most part. I suppose I took it for granted. What about you?â âI donât get too much free time if Iâm honest. I train and hunt and appear in counsel and thatâs about it.â You sat in comfortable silence for a while before Arthur continued, âmaybe that will change now that youâre back, we could do with some change around here.â You smiled one of your first genuinely warm smiles in weeks in response.Â

Imagine seeking out Gwaine before he leavesâŚ
You walked through the palace corridors so quickly that the castle attendants were a blur. Then you found him a few paces away from his quarters. You called out for him and he paused his path to see you approaching.
âI came as soon as I heard. Itâs completely unfair. Perhaps, there is some way around this ruling - if I can find the Camelot Book of Law in the libraryâŚâ
Gwaine smiled kindly. âThe King has made it quite clear what will happen to me if I stay.â He told you. âBut thank you for trying.â
The noble man gave a curt nod and stepped back to enter the guest quarters and pack his things when you took his hand.
âThen kiss me.â You said suddenly taking note in the surprise on Gwaineâs face. âYou canât be banished twice - so kiss me.â
With no further prompt, the man pulled you into his chambers, locking the doors behind him. He closed the space and planted a firm kiss against your mouth with every intention to take your breath away. You backed into the stone wall gently and let his hands wander where they wanted.
In spite of the situation, it was a perfect evening.

Lancelot x reader - all the flowers in the world
Hope you've been doing well and keeping hydratedđ. Glad to see that your requests are open again. I was wondering if I could request a BBC Merlin Lancelot x reader with this prompt "If I had a flower for every time I thought of you⌠I could walk through my garden forever." from your 2024 prompts part 2? Of course you don't have to if you don't want to. Also if you do write this, take as long as you need. Thank you𧥠- Anon đ
You were walking along one of the trails, itâs was quiet, peaceful, and you were also using this time to collect some plants both for medical use and for food use as well.
Despite being told many times by not only Merlin and Lancelot but by every other knight as well and even Arthur, you still went out by yourself because you found it easier to find the peace in things when you werenât worrying about other people or having to be quick.
You loved to just wonder.
However, you knew you werenât really alone out there.
Despite his best attempts to stay hidden, it was clear as day that Lancelot had been following you to keep an eye on you.
Multiple times you had seen him, and once he near ran straight at you when you had tripped up on some tree roots, but caught yourself.
Kneeling down in a patch of wild mushrooms, you began to carefully looking over them, only picking a select few that were safe and ripe to eat.
Lancelot leant against a nearby tree as he watched over you, his hand on his sword ready to defend you at a moments notice as he had too.
âLancelot?â You called out.
Said knight freezes, unsure if he should reply or not.
On one hand if you needed help he wanted to help you, but on the other you wanted to come out here alone and he wasnât sure if you actually knew he was there or just heard a noise and assumed it was him.
After a moment of internal debating he walked over and knelt down next to you.
âWhat is it? Are you okay?â He asks softly.
Turning your head to him, you hold up a small blue flower with a bright grin to him.
Lancelot stares at your for a few seconds before he softly smiles at you, taking the flower from your hands to look at it.
âItâs beautifulâŚâ he says softly.
âIt suits you.â
This makes him laugh softly, and he tucks the flower behind his ear, smiling warmly at you.
âWell thank you (Y/N).â
Grinning at him again, you go back to picking some wild mushrooms and Lancelot just stays knelt next to you, his gaze never leaving your face.
Standing up, you carry on walking and this time Lancelot walks alongside of you, offering you his arm so you wouldnât trip over again and so that he could keep you close.
Looping your arm with his, you rest your hand on his forearm.
âYou know you arenât supposed to come out here alone.â He speaks quietly.
âI know, itâs just nice to escape all the hustle and bustle of life at Camelot.â
Lancelot hums his head in understanding.
âI understand that, but you knew we worry about you coming out here alone, I worry about you coming out here alone. itâs hardly safe.â
âI know, but Iâm so used to if you come, then the others come, and theyâre never quiet, as much as I love everybody sometimes they start to become a headache.â
Lancelot laughs slightly and he nods his head.
âBelieve me, I know.â
Lancelot glances down at you before he goes back to watching the trail. If you stopped he would stop and keep a watchful eye over you.
Every so often you would gather a few more ours to scatter along his chainmail, tucking the stems into the small gaps in the links.
Lancelot couldnât help but smile as you did this.
"If I had a flower for every time I thought of you⌠I could walk through my garden forever." You say quietly.
Lancelotâs eyes widen slightly, but his smile never falters.
âYou really think about me that much?â
You nod your head.
He pauses, making you stop as well and walks in front of you, placing his finger under your chin to tilt your head up towards him.
âIf I had a flower for every time I thought of you, the whole world would be covered in beautiful flowersâŚâ he whispers.
His smile is warm and he moves his hand to cup your cheek.
âYou would be much more beautiful than an amount of flowersâŚâ
Your smile matches his, and he canât help but smile even more, running his thumb along your cheek.
âWill you let me court youâŚ?â He whispers.
âI would love nothing moreâŚâ
His face immediately lights up and he carefully pulls you into a gentle hug which you quickly reciprocated.
Maybe it wasnât so bad that he decided to come with you after all

Comfort
summary : what would your boyfriend do if you had a bad day at work/school?
word count : 0.7k
type : headcanons
pairing/s : Modern! Gwaine / Merlin / Arthur (Soldier, Poet, Kingđ) x Reader
warning/s : asshole bosses / professors lol
here is my masterlist!
Note : Why is life so tiring? Sometimes, I just want to lay down and sleep. Slight NSFW on Gwaine's part .
Gwaine
Gwaine is evidently high-spirited but pouts like a kicked puppy when he sees you sad.
He may be a little unfamiliar with comforting someone but he knows that having fun can revive someone's soul so as a way to comfort you, he will offer a night of distraction and pleasure (I know what you're thinking and yes, you are right đ).
From here, it depends on what you want to do. Gwaine will enthusiastically go with the flow.
You want to stay at home and play games? He will gladly lose to monopoly, uno, scrabbles, or any board games you want to play.
Gwaine is also a reliable player two in online games and will shout with you when another player is performing poorly.
"How can you miss that shot?!"
"What my love said, you muppet!"
Want to watch a movie? A pillow fort with your favorite movies, snacks, and soda coming right up!
Warning though, if you want to go out and party, don't. As loveable as he is, Gwaine is a party animal who has little self-control. He WILL get drunk before you and you have no choice but to drag his ass back to your home.
Last possible activity? Doing the deed. Might fuck the stress and sadness out of you until all you can remember is how good he made you feel, just saying. Anyways, enjoy! đ
Merlin
This sweet baby boy will serve you like a queen, no joke.
Merlin will immediately know you had a bad day as he welcomes you in your shared home, already wrapping his (big and strongđŤ˘) arms around your tired body.
He won't say a word but you'll know that he offers comfort by how tight his hug is, slowly soothing your hair, and gently kissing parts of your face.
"What's wrong, love?"
And boom! Here comes the waterworks. He will let you cry and vent as he leads the two of you on the sofa, lying comfortably there until you are done.
You might even take a short nap. Merlin doesn't care if you covered him with tears, drool, or snot; as long you feel better.
He will wake you up with your favorite home-cooked meal prepared on the table then taking you to the bathroom for a relaxing bath.
There would be scented candles, bath bombs, mellow music, skin care productsâ the whole nine yards. And no, you don't have to move. Merlin will do everything for you unless you want otherwise.
He will give you a massage on the bed after that, saying words of encouragement and support.
If you ask him to use his magic, he will. He will show you anything you want; from the wonders of the world to the vast beauty of the cosmos.
He hates using his magical abilities on you but as you fall asleep in his arms that night, he whispers a spell that will surely give you good dreams and an even better sleep.
Arthur
Let's face it, Arthur can be... oblivious at times.
Unlike Merlin and Gwaine, it will take a little longer for him to realize you feel like shit.
The Pendragons are very wealthy, and it sometimes compensates for the other qualities they lack.
He may not be as cheerful as Gwaine or provide you a satisfactory service like Merlin, but he can give you anything you want.
You want to go to another country? The private jet is ready. You don't even have to pack a bag, Arthur will buy new clothes for you.
He will let you choose the hotel you'll be staying in and book all the activities you want to do such as tours in the wildlife, scuba diving, spa days, and many more.
You want comfort food? The best chef in Albion will be brought to your home at once, paid heavily to cook whatever food you fancy.
You want materials things, jewelries and dresses? Even stationery? You got it. Arthur doesn't care how much you spend, he's practically your sugar daddy. đ
If you just want him by your side, he will let you hug him like a koala bear to a tree and listen to your complains.
However, watch your words or the people you mention. Because Arthur will see to it that they will be dealt with, money comes with influence after all.
"So that's why they are being overly nice to me!"
"No one messes with the love of my life."
