BB!TNP is an arc that confronts a lot of the leftover ideas from TPB, one of which is an overhaul of Hawkfrost. Instead of being "The Tiger in RiverClan," he was groomed by the remaining TigerClan supporters to inherit his father's legacy

Mistyfoot realizes that he wasn't the root of the evil; he was a symptom. And RiverClan doesn't "go back to normal." After another clan discussion blows up into a huge argument, she looks up for help to her leader on the stump... only to see her gazing down with amusement.

The setting sun turns Leopardstar into a black shape on a dark, spiky hill, splinters and branches jagged like rotting bones. Her eyes flash, Tigerstar amber, Dark Forest red, and Mistyfoot understands that these ideas won't die unless they are killed.

She finishes Leopardstar by bashing her head on a rock in the southern delta, an inlet river, which is what causes the lake to run red with blood. Hawkfrost's death is now impaling himself on the stake by accident, charging at Mothwing when she pulls it out of the ground.

Mistyfoot then chooses Sedgecreek as her first deputy.

jkdjdfkl thank u. like i actually. bramble's just a fun villain and like yes he is in fact shitty to squilf so Bad but i do have a huge soft spot for him pre-tnp. and his character arc is so interesting.

just to also jump around but yeah like. tawnypelt definitely internalizes it, and takes it as "well fuck, if you're not going to love me, i'm not going to love you" just to continue w the idea of Love. it just makes me laugh bc like. it sounds really silly when ur like.

anyway anyway yeah i think. i mean his journey starts there, and then it kind of ends? it's never Really resolved, fully, and like. i think that's okay if you look at tpb in isolation because bramble as a character wasn't super important, bramble as a plot/narrative device was.

he's the equivalent of sirius telling harry "the world isn't made of good people and death eaters" and so like, for tpb to work, he doesn't need to have a full and complete character arc.

that's probably why i like him so much tbh, most of my favourite characters tend to be characters who have a Story but they're minor characters so it's never directly addressed. willowshine. frostfur. goldenflower. deadfoot. and so on.

but anyway, then his character development is basically Reset in tnp and it's kind of like. i think there's this really, really interesting idea to pull on about conditional love. because tnp is like. a really good story to explore that with.

you know, he's with his sister (who left), he ends up connecting with hawkfrost, again there's the dark forest, and like.

he's with squirrelpaw who's a huge test on his ability to love unconditionally. and what does he owe her? what does it mean to be clanmates? and i think you can see the shadow of that idea in how he treats squirrelpaw, and later squirrelflight, but it's clearly not anything the erins wanted to explore with him.

which is a shame, because then you'd get to po3 and his character arc would in fact be relevant as he's forced to once again test this idea of unconditional love, this time with cats who he definitely owes unconditional love.

in conclusion: brambleclaw had a lot of potential and it makes me sad that it was ignored.

(also re mothwing! dw abt it. my opinion probably wouldn't change tbh i'm really, really, like a trope i love is characters reclaiming their own names. i think it would probably still affect her, y'know?)

Okay so I’ve been thinking abt this n u know how sometimes people will rename Brambleclaw Brambleflower and it’s always bothered me and I couldn’t figure out why but I just did and it’s like. You’re renaming him after his other parent but like. Brambleclaw isn’t like Goldenflower. TPB Bramble is More Like Her, but only in that they’re both “soft”. But he’s anxious and shit, and she’s fucking terrifying.

Like if ur gonna rename him, maybe do it to let him be his own person? Like uhh Brambleheart. Or if u don’t want to bc Fireheart and same problem which like yeah valid (even if I’d argue that’s actually good symbolism because Bramble want to be like Fireheart), then how about Bramblecloud. Since the clans cook with fire, I imagine they'd have plenty of soot laying around because of it. Do they ever use it for ink or dying "clothes" or is it just the stuff apprentices get stuck with cleaning at the end of the day for a moon when in trouble?

A bit of both! Soot can be combined with water to create Bistre. It's a brown pigment that works nicely for watercoloring.

Unfortunately, the best ""paper"" the clan cats have is parchment... but they don't do a lot of writing yet, nor do they have written history. And parchment doesn't take watercolors well, especially not the natural tones of bistre.

So bistre is seen as an apprentice material. It's sort of like crayon. You're not expected to draw great art with it, but it's easy to make and it's a chore to clean out the oven anyway, so you might as well have fun with the soot.

Whitestorm actually really loved bistre, much to his father's chagrin. He continued to draw with it into his warriorhood. His son, Sootfur, was named after it. Sootfur really loved this about his name, and it encouraged an interest in bistre drawings in turn.

He was an artsy guy, but unfortunately his life was cut tragically short. In death, he's twisted up about the unfairness of dying before he was able to paint the beautiful, exposed walls of the new ThunderClan camp.
