Based on a prompt from the Enterprise Fans server, wanting to see badass Hoshi in action, underestimated by the MACOs, to their regret.

Hoshi overhears MACOs talking smack about Enterprise's crew and its tactical officer. She's not one to let that kind of insult slide.

THIS THIS ALL OF THIS!

Hoshi is, quite frankly, the single most important person in the ship in terms of new first contacts. If you can't communicate with a strange new species, what are the odds things will stay peaceful? Think you could manage in a new region without knowing the language, especially when everyone's life hangs on whether or not you can understand the difference between 'friend' and 'foe'?

Wouldn't you be just a tad bit worried about going into a place you've never been, i.e. space, having to entrust your safety to a giant metal can that is constantly under attack and where you hear strange sounds that no one else can hear (hello neurodivergent-coded hearing of sounds that no one else can hear doesn't that seem familiar?

Hoshi is kick-ass. Given encouragement and belief in her abilities - not just praise for her 'gift' or pats on the head or irritation that she can't just mind-read the words into being - her confidence comes to the fore.

Also please tell me how the person who snarks at her senior officers pretty much from day 1 is 'shy and anxious'. 😑🙄

It bothers me how little respect Hoshi gets. She's literally out there doing what is pure magic and people are like "she only has one defining feature ANXIETY she sucks"

NO

Hoshi is a brave, sassy, kick-ass word magician. Like yeah she's a linguist but learning an entire alien language in space with your team mates lives on the line?

Hoshi doesn't have anxiety. Anxiety has her and it hates she dragged it to space.

Apparently mostly G at 10 (who knew?), followed by E (7) and then Teen & Up (6).

2. What are your top three fandoms?

So far I've only published for Star Trek: Enterprise (22) with a co-authorship for a fic in The Mummy universe. I have fandoms I plan to add, but nothing's published yet.

3. What is the top character you write about?

It's a tie between Hoshi Sato and Malcolm Reed at 21 each.

4. What are your top 3 pairings?

Malcolm Reed/Hoshi Sato (14) Fairly evenly split with Malcolm Reed & Hoshi Sato (10) (because sometimes they're not actually in a romantic relationship) And then at barely a sliver of either of those comes Malcolm Reed & Charles "Trip" Tucker III (2)

6. Does any of this surprise you?

Only the ratings, because frankly I thought I had fewer than 5 Gen, not a good half of my fics. Otherwise, nope, all according to plan.

Like the one you're with - I firmly believe that romantic love isn't the be-all and end-all of anything so I make my characters actually enjoy being with each other, whether platonic or romantic. Angst goes here to die because it makes me smile. And whenever I can, BAMF Hoshi Sato / BAMF Malcolm Reed.
