What Are The Key Differences Between Pursuing a B.Sc. In Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) And Obtaining An AME License?
Tumblr media
A career in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) offers excellent opportunities in the aviation industry. However, students often wonder whether to pursue a B.Sc. in AME or obtain an AME license. While both options prepare candidates for roles in aircraft maintenance, they differ in focus, scope, and career outcomes. Let’s explore the key differences between the two.
1. Nature of the Program
B.Sc. in AME: This is an academic degree program offered by universities. It combines theoretical knowledge and practical training in aircraft maintenance, aviation systems, and related technologies. The program typically spans three years and covers a broad range of subjects, including mathematics, physics, and engineering principles.
AME License: The AME license is a professional certification granted by aviation authorities like the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India. It focuses specifically on the practical and regulatory aspects of aircraft maintenance and is mandatory for individuals responsible for certifying aircraft as airworthy.
2. Eligibility Requirements
B.Sc. in AME: Admission typically requires candidates to have completed their 12th grade with physics, chemistry, and mathematics (PCM). Some universities may also conduct entrance exams.
AME License: To enroll in an AME license program, candidates must meet similar eligibility criteria, including PCM in 12th grade. Additionally, the program is often more focused on meeting regulatory standards.
3. Curriculum Focus
B.Sc. in AME: The curriculum includes a mix of academic theory and practical training. Topics like aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, and material science are covered, offering a comprehensive understanding of aircraft systems.
AME License: The program is centered on hands-on training and regulatory compliance. Students learn about inspection, repair, and certification processes, focusing on maintaining the airworthiness of aircraft.
4. Certification and Recognition
B.Sc. in AME: Graduates earn an academic degree, which is widely recognized for higher education or research opportunities.
AME License: The license is a professional qualification issued by aviation authorities. It is mandatory for anyone certifying aircraft for flight, making it a critical credential for certain roles in the industry.
5. Career Opportunities
B.Sc. in AME: Graduates can pursue diverse roles in the aviation industry, including research, teaching, and management positions. They may also continue their studies with a master’s degree or specialization.
AME License: Licensed AMEs are authorized to certify aircraft as airworthy. They can work directly in airlines, maintenance repair organizations (MROs), or defense sectors. The license opens doors to highly specialized roles with significant responsibilities.
6. Time and Cost
B.Sc. in AME: The degree program takes three years to complete and is generally less expensive than obtaining an AME license.
AME License: The licensing process involves intensive training and examinations, taking two to four years. It may be costlier due to practical training requirements.
7. Regulatory Requirements
B.Sc. in AME: While the degree provides foundational knowledge, it does not qualify graduates to certify aircraft.
AME License: The license meets all regulatory requirements for aircraft maintenance and is essential for certification roles.
Conclusion
Choosing between a B.Sc. in AME and an AME license depends on your career goals. If you aim for a broader understanding of aviation with opportunities in research or further studies, a B.Sc. in AME is ideal. However, if you wish to become a certified aircraft maintenance engineer with direct responsibility for aircraft safety, obtaining an AME license is the right path. Both options offer promising careers in the aviation industry, catering to different aspirations and interests.

i am that, nisargardatta maharaj, ch. 96.
Questioner: I am an American by birth and for the last one year I was staying in an Ashram in Madhya Pradesh, studying Yoga in its many aspects. We had a teacher, whose Guru, a disciple of the great Sivananda Saraswati, stays in Monghyr. I stayed at Ramanashram also. While in Bombay I went through an intensive course of Burmese meditation managed by one Goenka. Yet I have not found peace. There is an improvement in self-control and day-to-day discipline, but that is all. I cannot say exactly what caused what. I visited many holy places. How each acted on me, I cannot say.
Maharaj: Good results will come, sooner or later. At Sri Ramanashram did you get some instructions?
Q: Yes, some English people were teaching me and also an Indian follower of jnana yoga, residing there permanently, was giving me lessons.
M: What are your plans?
Q: I have to return to the States because of visa difficulties. I intend to complete my B.Sc., study Nature Cure and make it my profession.
M: A good profession, no doubt.
Q: Is there any danger in pursuing the path of Yoga at all cost?
M: Is a match-stick dangerous when the house is on fire? The search for reality is the most dangerous of all undertakings for it will destroy the world in which you live. But if your motive is love of truth and life, you need not be afraid.
Q: I am afraid of my own mind. It is so unsteady!
M: In the mirror of your mind images appear and disappear. The mirror remains. Learn to distinguish the immovable in the movable, the unchanging in the changing, till you realise that all differences are in appearance only and oneness is a fact. This basic identity -- you may call God, or Brahman, or the matrix (Prakriti), the words matters little -- is only the realisation that all is one. Once you can say with confidence born from direct experience: 'I am the world, the world is myself', you are free from desire and fear on one hand and become totally responsible for the world on the other. The senseless sorrow of mankind becomes your sole concern.
Q: So even a jnani has his problems!
M: Yes, but they are no longer of his own creation. His suffering is not poisoned by a sense of guilt. There is nothing wrong with suffering for the sins of others. Your Christianity is based on this.
Q: Is not all suffering self-created?
M: Yes, as long as there is a separate self to create it. In the end you know that there is no sin, no guilt, no retribution, only life in its endless transformations. With the dissolution of the personal 'I' personal suffering disappears. What remains is the great sadness of compassion, the horror of the unnecessary pain.
Q: Is there anything unnecessary in the scheme of things?
M: Nothing is necessary, nothing is inevitable. Habit and passion blind and mislead. Compassionate awareness heals and redeems. There is nothing we can do, we can only let things happen according to their nature.
Q: Do you advocate complete passivity?
M: Clarity and charity is action. Love is not lazy and clarity directs. You need not worry about action, look after your mind and heart. Stupidity and selfishness are the only evil.
Q: What is better -- repetition of God's name, or meditation?
M: Repetition will stabilise your breath. With deep and quiet breathing vitality will improve, which will influence the brain and help the mind to grow pure and stable and fit for meditation. Without vitality little can be done, hence the importance of its protection and increase. Posture and breathing are a part of Yoga, for the body must be healthy and well under control, but too much concentration on the body defeats its own purpose, for it is the mind that is primary in the beginning. When the mind has been put to rest and disturbs no longer the inner space (chidakash), the body acquires a new meaning and its transformation becomes both necessary and possible.
Q: I have been wandering all over India, meeting many Gurus and learning in driblets several Yogas. Is it all right to have a taste of everything?
M: No, this is but an introduction. You will meet a man who will help you find your own way.
Q: I feel that the Guru of my own choice can not be my real Guru. To be real he must come unexpected and be irresistible.
M: Not to anticipate is best. The way you respond is decisive.
Q: Am I the master of my responses?
M: Discrimination and dispassion practised now will yield their fruits at the proper time. If the roots are healthy and well-watered, the fruits are sure to be sweet. Be pure, be alert, keep ready.
Q: Are austerities and penances of any use?
M: To meet all the vicissitudes of life is penance enough! You need not invent trouble. To meet cheerfully whatever life brings is all the austerity you need.
Q: What about sacrifice?
M: Share willingly and gladly all you have with whoever needs -- don't invent self-inflicted cruelties.
Q: What is self-surrender?
M: Accept what comes.
Q: I feel I am too weak to stand on my own legs. I need the holy company of a Guru and of good people. Equanimity is beyond me. To accept what comes as it comes, frightens me. I think of my returning to the States with horror.
M: Go back and make the best use of your opportunities. Get your B.Sc. degree first. You can always return to India for your Nature Cure studies.
Q: I am quite aware of the opportunities in the States. It is the loneliness that frightens me.
M: You have always the company of your own self -- you need not feel alone. Estranged from it even in India you will feel lonely. All happiness comes from pleasing the self. Please it, after return to the States, do nothing that may be unworthy of the glorious reality within your heart and you shall be happy and remain happy. But you must seek the self and, having found it, stay with it.
Q: Will compete solitude be of any benefit?
M: It depends on your temperament. You may work with others and for others, alert and friendly, and grow more fully than in solitude, which may make you dull or leave you at the mercy of your mind's endless chatter. Do not imagine that you can change through effort. Violence, even turned against yourself, as in austerities and penance, will remain fruitless.
Q: Is there no way of making out who is realised and who is not?
M: Your only proof is in yourself. If you find that you turn to gold, it will be a sign that you have touched the philosopher's stone. Stay with the person and watch what happens to you. Don't ask others. Their man may not be your Guru. A Guru may be universal in his essence, but not in his expressions. He may appear to be angry or greedy or over-anxious about his Ashram or his family, and you may be misled by appearances, while others are not.
Q: Have I not the right to expect all-round perfection, both inner and outer?
M: Inner --- yes. But outer perfection depends on circumstances, on the state of the body, personal and social, and other innumerable factors.
Q: I was told to find a jnani so that I may learn from him the art of achieving jnana and now I am told that the entire approach is false, that I cannot make out a jnani, nor can jnana be conquered by appropriate means. It is all so confusing!
M: It is all due to your complete misunderstanding of reality. Your mind is steeped in the habits of evaluation and acquisition and will not admit that the incomparable and unobtainable are waiting timelessly within your own heart for recognition. All you have to do is to abandon all memories and expectations. Just keep yourself ready in utter nakedness and nothingness.
Q: Who is to do the abandoning?
M: God will do it. Just see the need of being abandoned. Don't resist, don't hold on to the person you take yourself to be. Because you imagine yourself to be a person you take the jnani to be a person too, only somewhat different, better informed and more powerful. You may say that he is eternally conscious and happy, but it is far from expressing the whole truth. Don't trust definitions and descriptions -- they are grossly misleading.
Q: Unless I am told what to do and how to do it, I feel lost.
M: By all means do feel lost! As long as you feel competent and confident, reality is beyond your reach. Unless you accept inner adventure as a way of life, discovery will not come to you.
Q: Discovery of what?
M: Of the centre of your being, which is free of all directions, all means and ends.
Q: Be all, know all, have all?
M: Be nothing, know nothing, have nothing. This is the only life worth living, the only happiness worth having.
Q: I may admit that the goal is beyond my comprehension. Let me know the way at least.
M: You must find your own way. Unless you find it yourself it will not be your own way and will take you nowhere. Earnestly live your truth as you have found it -- act on the little you have understood. It is earnestness that will take you through, not cleverness -- your own or another's.
Q: I am afraid of mistakes. So many things I tried -- nothing came out of them.
M: You gave too little of yourself, you were merely curious, not earnest.
Q: I don't know any better.
M: At least that much you know. Knowing them to be superficial, give no value to your experiences, forget them as soon as they are over. Live a clean, selfless life, that is all.
Q: Is morality so important?
M: Don't cheat, don't hurt -- is it not important? Above all you need inner peace -- which demands harmony between the inner and the outer. Do what you believe in and believe in what you do. All else is a waste of energy and time.

my rant
tw: talks about weight increase, low self-esteem, moderate anxiety, procrastinating tendencies. this is also extremely long.
i just really need to talk/vent about it.
the worst part about being a "casual" gamer is, you never know when you might get addicted with it. i play genshin and CoD, while cod doesn't interest me as much anymore and i only ever played genshin for like twice a month but recently- genshin has been taking over lol, i played 3 hours of genshin alone yesterday and mind you- i've already finished all the archon (main) quests and i'm still playing it!!! (this is called procrastination)
and this is not just limited to computer games no, i once was obsessed with aerobics gymnastics and was practising it all around my house (before corona struck and i physically became unable to do many tricks cue *decreasing flexibility/strength/stamina and everything after i got sick. after aerobics, my hyper-fixation was basketball and i would play it for around 2-3 hours everyday, my body slowly started getting better and my love for sports and gym was ignited again but then i entered into the senior year of my school and i had to inevitably focus more on my studies because i still can't see myself being an athlete/sportsperson even though i really love sports.
now, i was a science major in my high-school (my core were - phy, chem and bio) and i had always been a hardworker but i started getting burnt out, the more i strayed away from staying active and being fit, the more of couch potato i became. i somehow started studying nicely again, but got corona in sept.2022 and was on bedrest for two weeks, my schedule was a mess again. during that time, it were only my high-school extracurriculars (anchoring, debating, basketball, student council) which were keeping me happy along with a few friends (who in future became insecure of everything i was doing and shut me off by calling me "fake", that shit hurt.) and because i had missed 2 weeks of school and was already behind the syllabus by myself because of improper time management, so i developed anxiety- i only realised this after i had a mental breakdown in school for 2 minutes which i wasn't able to control instantly. (my anxiety is moderate and i don't need any medicines for it- i just need to keep my schedule productive and avoid procrastination.) i realised that i was quite behind and that i needed to do something so i did, i shut myself off and studied for 3 months without any outside exposure or anything- but that made me gain weight, from a 54kg 5'7 girl, i went on to a 68kg and because i got sick just immediately after, my weight increased to 70kgs. now, don't get me wrong- i love my body, i still like the way i look but, i don't feel healthy and i don't think you can understand how nerve-wrecking it is for a person who could run 5km without a worry pant after 500m. it was really... and i mean really heart-braking, more than my weight gain, it was my inability to do anything which made me more and more insecure about myself.
my anxiety, my newly acquired low self-esteem were adding fuel to my already procrastinating tendencies.
now. that is the main issues- i am a procrastinator, and for some reason i'm unable to fully get out of it and i get even more anxious when my days are going unproductive which they are!
i didn't score bad in my high-school finals, my scores of normal college entrance exams were good enough to fetch me into a top 3 college of our nation for b.sc but- i didn't want that. even though all my other exams went well, i seriously fucked up my medical entrance examination. i thought to take a drop year but im seriosuly scared because i don't think i did anything fruitful this year and i just feel like i wasted an year of my life and my main exams are in 4 months and im really really getting stressed out because the selection rate is only the top 1-2% among 2 million applicants, talk about competition lmao.
see, i am aware that i can do it, i don't know if it is arrogance or optimism but i know that if i really do give it all- my blood, sweat and tears and everything- i know that i'll do better, i will be able to score enough to get a medical college- but the thing is, i feel like i am scared to start and i don't want to be.
i want to- i need to work hard to better than my present-self, i need to work out to get my stamina, strength and flexibility back. and even if i fail- i atleast worked hard, i just don't want to regret anything which i am doing, i need to get out of this slump and i need to convince myself to get up and atleast try everyday. because i seriously seriously think that regret is probably the worst emotion you could feel and i don't want to spend my life regretting my decisions.
i just- had to get it off my chest lol. thankyou for reading this all.
i promise you, i'll be a great doctor one day and will clear this exam with every courage i am able to muster.
i guess... that is all? have a nice day and take care of yourself!

Alexander Robertus Todd was born on October 2nd 1907.
Our second Scottish Noble Laureate of the day, and indeed the second Glaswegian, Alexander was born in Cathcart in outer Glasgow, the son of Alexander Todd, a clerk with the Glasgow Subway, and his wife, Jane Lowry. Alexander Robertus Todd (Lord Todd) developed an interest in chemistry as an eight-year old while experimenting with iron filings from a toy chemistry set. Around four decades later, he was awarded the 1957 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and was ranked among the leading biochemists in the world.
He was educated at Allan Glen’s School and Glasgow University, where he took his B.Sc. degree in 1928 He received a PhD from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main in 1931 for his thesis on the chemistry of the bile acids. Todd was awarded an 1851 Research Fellowship from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, and, after studying at Oriel College, Oxford, he gained another doctorate in 1933.
Todd returned to Scotland in 1934 when he joined the staff of Edinburgh University under G. Barger. Two years later, i.e. in 1936 he moved to the Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine, Chelsea, and became Reader in Biochemistry in the University of London in 1937.
In 1938 he was appointed as Sir Samuel Hall Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Chemical Laboratories of the University of Manchester, which position he held until 1944, when he accepted an appointment as Professor of Organic Chemistry at Cambridge University and Fellow of Christ’s College.
Todd’s honours are too numerous to mention in one article. From 1952 to 1964, he held the position of chairman of the advisory council on scientific policy to the British government. He was knighted as Sir Alexander Todd in 1954 for distinguished service to the government and was given a life peerage and named Lord Todd, Baron Todd of Trumpington in 1962. He was made a member of the Order of Merit in 1977. From 1975 to 1980, he served as the President of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
Lord Alexander Todd died at the age of 89 at his home in Cambridge on 10 January, 1997, following a heart attack.
Affectionately called Todd Almighty by his students, he was remembered by those who had known him as an outstanding scientist with an extraordinary memory and a great fondness for cigarettes.

Who am I?
Brand new blog!
I'm a student of conservation currently working on my B.Sc. thesis in natural history conservation. Here I will attempt to document my findings and gradual progress as I venture down the long and arduous road of... reading through 200-400 years of science journals and history as I work to determine the age of various taxidermy specimens.

Hey everyone,
I'd like to introduce my new blog, where I will be sharing content on the hedgheog rehabilitation that I do.
Who am I?
I am a student, graduated with a B.Sc. in Biology and a M.Sc. in Marine biology in Germany.
Hedgehogs have been part of my life, my whole life. When I was little they were already diligently fed in the garden by my mother and we helped them through hibernation if they were too small to survive hibernation on their own.
When the pandemic hit in 2020 and university was pretty much put on hold, I, like many others, began to engage even more intensively with my environment (even more than a biology student already does). And so one evening I realised that one of my one-year-old hedgehogs that I had helped hibernate the year before (Biscuit) had a strange crust on his shoulder.
And so began the endless research into what Biscuit might have. I visited vets, who were unfortunately useless as they were not hedgehog experts, contacted animal shelters, hedgehog centres and associations until I finally got help from the latter and the diagnosis was clear: skin fungus.
With the help of hedgehog experts, I began to bathe and treat Biscuit and once the skin fungus had been combated, he could be released back into the wild, healthy and lively.
I started to take a closer look at my hedgehog guests in the garden and slowly slipped into hedgehog care (and with me, involuntarily, my parents as I live at home).
Over the years, with the help of hedgehog experts with decades of experience (from hedgehog networks, forums and scientists), I learned more and more, and word quickly got around to neighbours (both human and hedgehog) that I care for hedgehogs and so more and more hedgehogs ended up at my place until the guest loo became a mini hedgehog station (much to my parents' chagrin).
Medication (whether antibiotics, fungicides or infusions), visits to the doctor (x-rays, dental care), release enclosures including cat and rat-proof feeding and sleeping houses, or simply food have to be bought and that adds up quite a bit.
Over the last year (feeding starts around March to around December, when young hedgehogs born too late are still on the move) I have fed:
wet cat food (820€ Carney, high quality without sugar or added grains
plus mealworms and meal beetles (own breeding)
and dried soldier fly larvae for €117.56 (4x €29.39) = A total of 937€ for the food alone.
Plus visits to the doctor totalling €362.12
Food supplements (e.g. biotin or probiotics, lactase) €82.94
Medication 472,35€
Summing up to total costs for last year of = € 1,854.97
This does not even take into account the fact that some weakened hedgehogs need special rebuilding food (a/d Hills Diet for €3.20 per 200g tin) or rearing milk (Royal Canin Baby Cat/Dog 2x €23.90). As well as outdoor enclosures (5x Trixie 41,49) incl. sleeping (2x 35) + feeding houses (2x 60€) are needed for rehabilitation and reintroduction. Fortunately, my parents are covering the heating and water costs.
As a full-time student, this has been quite a hit to my savings, but I am happy to take it on myself for a good balance of rescued hedgehogs.
However, I need financial support so that I can continue to take in and rescue hedgehogs in the future. I am grateful for every small donation so that I can improve my deficit from last year and realise purchases that are necessary this year (such as new outdoor enclosures and sleeping houses).
Me and the hedgehogs thank you for everything you can make possible

Huh.
Just realised.
I work (80% part time because my executive dysfunctional brain melts otherwise).
My retired partner does the shopping and cooking, to 99%. He does spend a lot of time on the computer, learning and applying his learning to make money. But he no longer goes to work.
Sometimes I vacuum or run laundry, but mostly on my time off from work I rest, nap, or read (and Tumblr) (lots of Tumblr)
He is my '50s housewife and I am the breadwinner husband on the sofa, with the newspaper and smoking pipe.
I did more of the home chores before the kids moved out, and Partner stepped up as soon he moved in. He did work back then.
I did them all before the divorce with the ex, the research supervisor brain surgeon. (He was Important, I suppose, and needed his Rest, whereas my B.Sc. ass was not).
Tl;dr Yes. Work + family responsibility + regular housework = way too much for one person.
the triple burden (housework, childcare AND paid employment) IS a real issue that feminists have been discussing for decades... but the way tiktok tradfem tradwife girlies have twisted that into "it's too much stress for women to take on all the housework AND work full-time, so we should ~nurture our divine femininity~ by quitting our jobs becoming housewives and relying completely on our Strong Men to support us financially!!" rather than "it's too much stress for women to take on all the housework AND work full-time, so maybe men could start pulling their fucking weight around the house more and do the dishes every now and again"
