okay, for awhile, I’ve been avoiding PvP on YuGiOh Duel Links because I would always get harangued by people who would hammer repeatedly on a taunt like “go ahead! make your move!” if it was taking me more than three seconds to do something (which, like, c’mon, there are thousands upon thousands of cards, I’m going to need a moment to figure out what yours do)
but I hopped on yesterday to get to 20 wins for the reward and had a lot of fun! people weren’t rude, I engaged in a little clownery, and I had a little eureka moment when I realized that I could equip “Bashing Shield” to my opponent’s monster too, and stall for time that way
Equip only to a Normal Summoned/Set monster. It gains 1000 ATK. You take no battle damage from attacks involving it.
if you bumped into a Gradius deck on the lower ranks yesterday, it might have been me! in fact, I was thinking of adding YGO to possible things I can stream!
#i know i know i talk about streaming far more often than i really do it#i really want to but as an introvert i don't always have the energy to be in public like that#but i gotta admit - i was gonna put duel links down for good until just recently#in the course of making a gradius deck i also ended up with a lot of harpie cards#and with those cards i have built a very consistent but very dull deck focused on returning cards to the hand#there aren't many ways to protect against it and it makes it so i don't have to interact with your cards' effects (which isn't very fun imo)#then they added b.e.s. big core mk iii to the game and blaster cannon core is coming soon so i guess i'm back

BES Learning Center
BES Learning Center
Located in Einar of Oh’Fair isle, this school is the heart of the city. The city was built around the school to ensure the community was at least 75% self-sustaining. This school-based community houses small versions of every carrier offered in the Spokelse Isles. It has a smithy, a potter kiln, a weaving shop, construction office with lumber yard, blown glass, farming, general story, health building, restaurants, taverns, inns, pubs, livestock care, guard training, brewery, and basket weaving. There is even a papyrus farm for making paper and a book making studio.
The students get the luxury of trying whatever they want to see if it’s a job for them. They even have a small government building to learn about law making and enforcement. Everything one could need to run a country. They can study accounting and diplomatic presence. The Goal of BES is to prepare the new generation to run the future world.
Einar was founded by the Silverton Puca Clan. After the great war between Horus and Seth this Puca clan watched as part of their territory broke off and floated away like many other parts of the Isle. They began rebuilding slow at first till one day while fishing they came across a small piece of a boat having been destroyed in the previous nights storm. Inside this small floating piece was a man names William East and his wife Bes. They had with them five other people who worked with the family. Williams partner Alexander Beckett was among the five. Beckett, East, and the Chief of Silverton banded together to rebuild. East and Beckett expected to leave after the building was done. However, they had found their home and stayed. Beckett was passionate about education and ensuring future generations had the tools to survive.
Beckett consulted his partners and they agreed to erect BES Learning Center. This Learning Center has two campuses. The Early Learning center welcomes being two hundred and seventy-one years of age to two hundred and eighty-four years of age. This means any student within that age rate can attend a thirteen-year program. These programs are designed to teach new beings about the world they live in and its laws. This includes understanding the currency of Spokelse Isles, its history, its governing body, explaining clans and species. The BES Learning Center is open to students from two hundred eighty-five old to three hundred years old.
The classes here are thought to prepare beings for life as adults as well as teach them how to harness their magick which all beings manifest between years two eighty-five and two ninety-six of their lives. However, there is more to BES then meets the eye. A secret the learning center keeps hidden. Dean Alexander Beckett Has a different vision of the future. He does detailed research on each student who applies to attend and keeps the information on file. He is the founder of a secret society Known as B.E.S this stands for the Black Essex Society. Hidden under the guise of BES Learning Center, this society’s goal is to change the government and the ancient laws. They also wish to effect trade among the isles.
This is not how long the classes are this is a five-year program. The magick classes are a separate part of the Leaning Center and therefore hold a different admissions process. This means student with out magick can still attend and be placed in a different class. The age range is wider due to the desire to teach the generations before the war. This allows Beckett to teach more beings and find those that will fit into his secret society. He teaches them a few different courses and trains them to influence the standing government. They are also taught abought trade routes, how goods are moved, and regulated.
BES Learning Center main campus had three residential castles. Castle Greenview, Castle Foxedin, and Castle Linc. The dinning hall, auditorium, campus gym, and theater are in the fourth castle, Castle Bibe. The classes and staff offices sit in the fifth castle. This castle is named Castle Vendinguard (fin-din-guard). Just to the west down a path you will find the city of Einar. This City has a general store, a health complex, a smithy, an arts center, some restaurants, and inns. Peppered around the school off various paths is neighborhoods and learning complexes. These Learning complexes are not always buildings just where students go to learn various things from farming to craftsmanship to fighting.
The Gates of the academy are closed from Jiro to Sia; these are like weekdays when classes are held. Nanaka, Tavian, and Kensa are the weekends. From 7am Nanka to 12 am Kensa the gate is opened to allow for students to travel and explore Oh’Fair. Yes, there are 8 days in a week 24 hours in a day. The moon cycle is extremely slow, only possessing one full moon a year. Each year is 13 months long.
The School Year starts in Naimh on the first Jiro after the Fall Solstice held from the 35th – 38th.. Each School Year goes from then to 58th of Haruki. This Means Students go to school for roughly 11 months a year. This doesn’t take into an account of any breaks from school. The school has winter break three weeks long starting the week before the celebration of Isis and ending the week after. Spring break is weeklong. Usually the first week after the Spring Solstice from Neve 35th to Neve 38th .

This photo was taken when we graduated from elementary school in B.E.S and in the town of san luis we received the diploma of my classmates and other graduates, that day we were very happy because we had graduated from elementary school and we will enter high school and will have new knowledge and friends because they say high school life is the happiest part of being a student because you will meet a lot of different people from all over the world who will become your friends and the others will be your enemies, but even so, avoid being quarrelsome as a respectful student not because you are afraid to fight them because it is better to not have enemies and you will be able to focus more on your studies.

look, Konami, if we’re never gonna get another Gradius game, the least you can do is make a Yu-Gi-Oh!-themed shmup instead
like, how rad would that be? you could have stages like Vylon, Naturia, Toon World, Machina...the list goes on! and what if there was a boss rush that’s a bunch of the most powerful and/or famous dragon cards?
I mean, you can even keep both the Vic Viper and the Moai head enemies (especially if you do a Chronomaly stage)! there’s enough B.E.S. cards for an old-fashioned Gradius boss rush if you want it! and there’s enough other planes and spaceships and such that you could round out the playable cast easily enough!
I bet there’s a lot of Spell and Trap cards that could work as shmup powerups too! see, it’s not Gauge Edit, it’s just deckbuilding! isn’t that what you do in YGO? so, like, c’mon, I’d love to see a YGO shmup!
#yugioh#ygo#gradius#konami#shmup#i'm actually not very skilled at shmups but i love to watch them#throw flint lock in there too even though i don't think anyone actually remembers xexex lmao

B.E.S OC: Haru
Bio:
She’s an Oiran. A top courtesan in the red light district. To her customers she’s graceful and soft spoken. But in reality she talks a lot. Very hyper and impulsive. Especially with her spending. Living embodiment of the “chippy chippy chappa chappa” song. Impulsive thoughts and social anxiety are scared of her lolol
Relationships?
In the actual show, of course she wouldn’t know anyone. Mizu wouldn’t be able to even see her let alone afford Haru. (If there was a reason to see her which no) You need to jump through a lot of hoops to see an Oiran. But in my fanfic she’s just the person who helps Mizu by giving her stuff to do to advance the plot lol She does have a pet name Mimi. (Sometimes a dog. Sometimes a cat. I can’t decide)
Likes
All the girlie pop stuff lol (cute things, cute clothes, jewelry, the newest trends, etc etc)
Mizu (ofc lmao)
Dislikes
Working (born to play but forced to work)
Bugs

B.E.S. Big Core MK-3 ———————————————— If your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand) in Defense Position. If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: Place 3 counters on it. Cannot be destroyed by battle. At the end of the Damage Step, if this card battled: Remove 1 counter from this card, but if you cannot, destroy it. You can banish this card from your Graveyard; shuffle all "B.E.S." monsters and "Big Core" from your Graveyard into the Deck. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Maximum Crisis (MACR-JP032)
The main flaw some Decks can't work smoothly is due lack of speed. With many popular Decks capable of pulling their best performance right from the first turns, slow strategies will be defeated with ease without any chance of achieve some of their goals. This is reason why old themes and archetypes periodically gets new support to work with, allowing them to catch up with new mechanics and confront the opponent under the same pacing.
"B.E.S. Big Core MK-3" is one of the lattest additions to the archetype based arround the bosses of the Gradius series. "MK-3" is able to Special Summon itself in Defense Position if the opponent controls any monsters while we don't, and although might place it in a vulnerable spot we don't have to worry thanks to the main mechanic of the B.E.S. monsters. No matter how "MK-3" is brought to the field it will gain three counters, and while carrying them will be vulnerable against any battles. However for each battle it will lose one counter, and once runs out of them will automatically destroyed once enters another battle. But the job of "MK-3" won't be over upon defeat, as is able to banish itself from the Graveyard to shuffle all B.E.S. members as well "Big Core" from the Graveyard back to our Deck. This last effect might seem odd for some players, but is actually an important tool to work arround some of the strategies the archetype is well known for.
Compared to many other B.E.S. "MK-3" is the only member assuring the obtention of all three counters no matter how is brought to the field. Obviously will be the best way to start a Duel with if the opponent gets the first turn, Special Summon it from our hand right away. If this B.E.S. arrives late to our hand and we already have other monsters out we don't have much to worry, as thanks to the Field Spell "B.E.F. Zelos" not only we will summon it from our hand but also obtain a fourth counter as a result. But if "MK-3" if far from being in our hand there's nothing to worry, as thanks to "Boss Rush" we can constantly replace defeated B.E.S. members with this one resting inside our Deck. And while many revival effects are available to bring back "MK-3" in late game, don't forget that its own copies can be banished to retrieve back to our Deck along the rest of B.E.S. members.
"MK-3" will become the sturdiest B.E.S. to confront against as will always obtain three counters no matter how is summoned. While the other B.E.S. as well "Big Core" will arrive frail when not meeting their counters' conditions, "MK-3" assures its ability to resist up to three battles against stronger enemies. Not only that but with the assistance of "B.E.F. Zelos" will obtain a stat boost, protection against some effects, and an extra counter to turn even more resistant against all kinds of threats. As "MK-3" confronts other monsters it will keep losing counters to the point it will self-destruct or simply be taken down by opponent actions, but we don't have to worry as an active "Boss Rush" will replace it with a new B.E.S. including copies of itself or others with assured counters when summoned such as "B.E.S. Big Core MK-2". Remember that "Boss Rush" forbids any Normal Summons or Sets while active, so try to keep a "MK-3" on our hand in case the opponent manages to disrupt its consecutive summons and we can immediately recover. The entire archetype involves "Boss Rush" constantly summoning B.E.S. monsters from our Deck and after a while we will run out of members to summon, so will be the perfect time to use "MK-3" Graveyard effect and retrieve all our monsters to keep "Boss Rush" from summoning them against all sorts of destructive sources.
"B.E.S. Big Core MK-3" covers all sorts of aspects the archetype really needed to take care about. With the majority of B.E.S.only obtaining counters when Normal Summoned they will rarely stay more than a turn when working along "Boss Rush", but with "MK-3" obtaining all its counters no matter how is brought out it will stay for several turns against all kinds of menaces. And even after its role on the field is done it will still have an important purpose in late game, as will recover all our B.E.S. back to keep "Boss Rush" active. Besides the self-destruction when is out of counters the true problem arround "MK-3" is its own Special Summon, as unless is used as material immediately is forced to defend against the opponent even if we have a great opportunity to attack. But overall, by just granting its three counters no matter if is summoned by its own ability or by "Boss Rush" and other effects, "MK-3" is a highly resistant creature with all sorts of outcomes to work arround and against.
Personal Rating: A
+ Special Summons itself if the opponent controls a monster and we don't + Gains three counters to protect itself from battles no matter how is summoned + Banishes itself from the Graveyard to recycle all B.E.S. and "Big Core" back to our Deck
- Destroys itself during a battle once runs out of counters - Special Summons itself in Defense Position

I honestly wish I could just play Yu-Gi-Oh for a living. The problem with that though, besides hinging my income on a trading card game, is that I'm more of a fan of bad to mid tier archetypes than ones that are actually good
#yu gi oh#like#theres no way in hell that id make it out of even a locals tournament with a B.E.S deck#probably not with a Stromberg deck either#considering the only thing that would make that deck successful is if my opponent doesnt feel like reading my field spell
