I'd Been at This Point Years Ago! (Canyonlands National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: When I'd been at this overlook to the Green River years ago with my Nikon D90, it had been a bright afternoon, and I was still learning much with exposure and metering. Still Getty liked it enough to license it. For this trip though, I got up much earlier and used the cloud cover to allow for a better exposure that seemingly brought out a more accurate color for this setting. With the height I had from this overlook, I decided to angle my SLR camera downward, capturing a view that swept across this open landscape of Canyonlands National Park. One would then find the eyes drawn to the canyons and Green River before coming to more the more distant cliff walls and mesas. High above the blue skies and clouds would complement the setting adding a color contrast to the reds and brows below.

I Stood and Took in the Sweet Views of Canyons (Black & White, Canyonlands National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A conversion to black & white using a Tin Type recipe in Silver Efex Pro 2 where I used some color filters to bring out a much richer tonal contrast for the final image. This image was captured at the Green River Overlook in the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park.

I'd Been at This Point Years Ago! (Black & White, Canyonlands National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: For this image, I decided to try out this "Ansel Adams Look" I'd read about in Jason Odell's book on Capture NX2. The idea is to work with the LCH editor, making some adjustments, and then use a Black point and White point before converting to black & white. By working with some control points for contrast and brightness, I was able to bring out a much richer tonal contrast in the final image.
