Aydra - Leave to nowhere

almost done with Marquess Wins a Wife LMAO sunny this book doesn't shy away from putting the obnoxious male lead through the wringer and making him grovel like yessss hit him again!! the narration feels realistic & natural but while we're in Luke's pov you can practically hear the writer going 'reader do you see this shit? dw we're gonna make him pay for it later' i loved it. and these kids are a riot, Luke taking L after L from 10-year-olds
it’s my favvvv part of aydra richard’s books. like “third act breakup/serious fight” happens in litchrally like EVERY romance novel which is Fine, that’s the genre, but then they almost never have the man do enough groveling or suffering to make up for it! and it weakens the romance for me.
i love how she puts those men through the wringer bc it’s DESERVED. literally more books would benefit from including it. plus literally the best thing any book can do is let a woman be righteously angry . and she excels at that

Absolutely love ''His'' series by Aydra Richards

Hello! Do you have any favorite romance novels to recommend that are not YA? Thanks!
OH THE PANDORAS BOX YOUVE OPENED ANON ehem a not so exhaustive list
historical romance (this is my main genre so there's more books here)
bringing down the duke and a rogue of one's own by evie dunmore - part of a series but both can be read as stand-alones. victorian period ft suffragettes. the second one in particular is my absolute favorite. it's very Gender with an insouciant dandy and an ambitious activist leader, both lonely and stubborn.
the brothers sinister series (especially the countess conspiracy) and the turner trilogy by courtney milan - will admit i read these books a bit ago so i don't remember much of the details only to say that courtney is a brilliant romance writer so i automatically trust her any time i read her books. she makes the unromantic very romantic in a very grounded way. for example in one of the brothers sinister books, the couple has sex for the first time and it turns out to be understandably mediocre. but this becomes a starting off point that actually brings them closer together. i just love the touch of realism and imperfection she brings in a genre that's built off of heightened emotions and almost fantastical perfection in relationships.
the devil comes courting by courtney milan - separate rec because this is part of another series which i haven't fully read yet. but i just had to add this because i find it remarkably unique among the genre. the events span years (rather than the shortened time frame of most romance novels) and a large part of the courtship is epistolary. it's also interracial and does not feature a white person! (heroine is chinese and hero is black.) one of those hr books that is equally historical fiction as it is romance and explores a period that i think hasn't been touched upon as much yet.
a week to be wicked by tessa dare - the best romcom-y hr ive read! it's a zany road trip with a romance that happens so gradually it really does sneak up on you which is the best kind.
the belle of belgrave square by mimi matthews - marriage of convenience. read this recently and every plot beat was absolutely perfect. the reveals, the commitment between them, everything just made sense. nothing was extraneous.
convergence of desire by felicity niven - also marriage of convenience. I LOVE THIS HEROINE. she's on the spectrum and he has a toxic relationship to sex. he is absolutely not attracted to her in the beginning but the honesty she gives to him while she pursues her own ambitions has him absolutely at her feet by the end.
my deceitful duchess by aydra richards - nerdy virgin ass hero which is a breath of fresh air from all these alpha males. has one of the best grovels over a misunderstanding that absolutely makes sense and isn't contrived 👌👌👌
when beauty tamed the beast by eloisa james - read this a long time ago but this is the first romance book i read so i have a lot of fondness over it. a kind-of retelling of beauty and the beast. top notch banter.
suddenly you by lisa kleypas - older heroine and younger hero! virgin spinster and novelist starts a fwb relationship with her publisher. a bit dated but still a fun read.
devil in winter by lisa kleypas - oh very dated but a classic amongst the romance community. marriage of convenience. the hero sebastian is both loved and reviled (and rightfully so i think) by his readers but i just have so much fondness for evie and the way she absolutely does not give a shit about how intimidating he is.
a rogue by any other name by sarah maclean - childhood friends reunite years later. read this a loooong time ago and i don't remember much except he does the absolute most to push her away because of Revenge reasons and the fallout from that is delicious
a lady's guide to fortune hunting by sophie irwin - MY CURRENT LOVE. enemies to lovers with my favorite heroine. she is cunning and scheming and absolutely shameless without being a complete asshole. the hero is also equally savvy enough to match her wit and catch onto her grift. the interplay between them of trying to outscheme the other is hilarious and delightful.
contemporary:
georgie, all along by kate clayborn - sweet, slow romance where the drama happens around the couple rather than between them except for the very end and even that is handled pretty maturely. not a big fan of third act breakups in general unless it's for a very good reason so this one sidesteps that by not prolonging it.
against a wall by cate c. wells - small town enemies to lovers. one of those read with your pussy books. hero is kind of a dumb brick but he knows it and owns it and i admire him for it. heroine is the town pariah and spoilers he literally fights the whole town for her sake. get you a man!
the kiss quotient and the bride test by helen hoang - both feature leads on the spectrum. i've seen criticism regarding how she handles neurodivergent characters but reading her author's note, i can tell she definitely pulls a lot from her own experiences being on the spectrum herself so i don't really understand the crit tbh. kind of veers to melodrama a little at the very end but i eat that shit up
the hating game by sally thorne - overexposed now in the rec circles but still a mainstay for a reason. enemies to lovers workplace romance with two leads that are kind of deranged which i love. great prose, great banter.
the billionaire's wake-up call girl by annika martin - billionaires have no rights but just suspend your head for a sec. they could have made him a millionaire and functionally nothing would've changed. anyway also a yummy enemies to lovers with a case of mistaken identity.
well met by jen deluca - kind of like georgie, all along in that the heart of it is just two very normal people falling in love in a very normal way that feels true to life. setting is a renaissance fair which is delightful.
kiss an angel by susan elizabeth phillips - dated as all hell and has some troubling parts with a batshit premise. but the last several chapters honestly make the book and i reread it from time to time so im obligated to include it on this list.
bass-ackwards by eris adderly - okay TW on workplace harassment BUT JUST READ PAST CHAPTER TWO I PROMISE. if it's still not your cup of tea totally understand but anyway... er, workplace romance.
people we meet on vacation by emily henry - ive described this book before as when harry meets sally if harry and sally were making a travelogue. the best friends to lovers pining is actually painful.
other/kinda out there:
radiance by grace draven - arranged marriage interspecies romance! i love this one because both of them thinks the other is actually very ugly so they fall in love purely through their friendship.
transcendence by shay savage - OK LMAO hear me out: caveman and a modern human sent back in time due to shenanigans all from the caveman's pov. the premise is batshit and it's obvious which fandom this was originally a fanfic for if you think about it for more than a second but this author makes it work???? have no fucking clue how she did it but by god she absolutely did
last light by claire kent - apocalypse romance. kind of road trip with survival elements. again i just love unlikely romances where the couple isn't that attracted to each other from the start and having that gradually change through time in a way thats not signposting to the audience.
ghost walk by cassandra gannon - funniest shit ever. ghost who died in the revolutionary era meets a psychic who works as a walking tour guide and recovering from a nervous breakdown. absolutely ridiculous and over the top. insta love which i normally dont like but this was so campy and fun i didn't even care
all cishet but you can find my queer recs here

Session 2: What's in the cards?
The winery was attacked by a druid, whom the characters defeated. They investigated her corpse and found a ring bearing the sign of Baba Lysaga (a tree of life symbol). Hallow took the ring to wear on her tail.
The characters decided to see Madame Eva, since she seems to have more information about why they are here. Madam Eva spoke the name of each party member and makes some reference to that individual’s past deeds.
Brave Hallow. You fear nothing. And that is well. For you have already paid the ultimate price more than once. Soon, you will find what you were looking for. It might even be here.
Many-sided Cecily. You belong in Barovia. You were made for adventure. The cards tell me that your brother thinks of you often.
Tempestuous Maire. Your father is gone, but your family is not. Take heart. You will meet at least one of them again someday.
Fair Merwick. You have seen evils more twisted and cruel than this. Your centuries at the Graves have prepared you to face Great Evil.
Loyal Zeek. Your strength lies in your ability to choose your own path. Your weakness lies in your inability to see who will walk it with you. There is one you know, who loves you back.
Warrior Aydra. You have a friend in high places. You do not need me to tell you that you were chosen for this mission. You do not want me to tell you anything.
Madame Eva admits that her goal is to defeat Strahd. Long have her people lived in his Shadow, and they wish to be free of his grasp.
She always remains cryptic, but tells them that to defeat Strahd, they will need a divine weapon, a holy symbol, and an ancient tome. "You already know the location of the weapon, the first item you will need on your quest. The holy symbol may be found in the Old Mill, where it is guarded by those who are happy here–who worship the Crawling King. The ancient tome will be your greatest challenge, for it lies deep within Castle Ravenloft. But if you can survive retrieving it, return to me and I will tell you how to defeat the devil Strahd." Madame Eva

If you're taking prompts: 17. Tucking their hands beneath the other person’s shirt, just to watch them break the kiss and gasp in surprise at the sensation of cold/warm hands on their skin. -- It looks like it could be a lot of fun.
So sorry it took me so long to answer this, but yes, I’ll definitely take a prompt! ☺️
Iris leaned forward and brushed her lips across Aydra’s, slow and passionate. Aydra deepened it, twining her hands through Iris’s honey brown locks. Feeling emboldened, Iris slipped her fingers—icy cold from the mountain breeze—beneath Aydra’s shirt to steal the warmth from her skin. Aydra pulled away from the kiss, gasping at the unexpected sensation.
Probably not my finest work, but hope you like it!

Welcome to Aedis:
Tumblr media
Aedis is an arid and, some may say, desolate planet marked by incredible sandstone canyons carved by ancient rivers. Many of the residents of Aedis live in complex semi-underground cities and towns carved into the canyons, some along the remains of these ancient rivers.
Welcome to Aviim:
Tumblr media
Aviim is a water planet sintered by the Florida everglades as well as a couple floating water towns in Africa and Asia (Ganvie, Benin; Inle Lake, Myanmar; and several Villages in Cambodia). The water is generally pretty shallow, coming up to about someone's upper thigh or waist, and covers the entirety of the planet. There are no landmasses on Aviim, only clusters of floating plant life and water-based grasses.
Welcome to Cendessa:
Tumblr media
My inspiration for Cendessa and, specifically, her largest city, seem obvious. Brazil's Rio de Janeiro inspired some of the geography of this area while Doha and Singapore inspired the city itself.
From the text:
Cendessa was a small planet well known for its calm seas and gently rolling hills. It is a major agricultural powerhouse in the Inner Band with a thriving agrarian and democratic culture. The planet had its fair share of sympathizers for both sides of the war, with most resistance against the Ton Empire starting in the Cendessan agricultural states rather than the cities. Commerce went largely unaffected in the cities during the war, but the Ton Empire’s blockades and tariffs stirred up resentment in the agrarian west. The disruption to the agricultural economy spread to the manufacturing sector and sympathy for the subversive rural laborers grew. University campuses, often hubs for debate and democracy, became the new breeding ground for sedition against the Ton, and from there, Cendessan ideas about democracy scatted across the galaxy. They still tended to tread carefully to avoid Ton retaliation.
The planet has since become a hub for immigration and bureaucracy. Not even a year after the war, it seemed most people have had more than one experience with an arrogant Cendessan behind a desk. They tended to be exacting and proud and it was hard to avoid the judgmental stares from well-to-do Cendessans. Although most inhabitants tended to be as peaceful as the Cendessan weather, they were tolerant to a fault. They all had a thing or two to say about the political situation, and not all opinions are well founded.
Mera City was Cendessa’s shiny crown jewel. Situated between the base of the Ithmis Range and the mouth of Aydras Bay, the city provided the perfect location for local and galactic trade. This made it an effective hub for ideas and produce. The city stretched out with the low Ithmis Mountains and along the shores of the Silver Sea. It was bordered by a large wild game reserve and several state parks. The city was beautifully green and aesthetically built with the natural land, its modern-chic style and unique skyline sitting easily among the landscape. Citizens of the city took conservation and respect for their ecosystems seriously. It was a paradise anyone in their right mind would dream of escaping to.
Welcome to Cengar:
Tumblr media
Also known as the Bloody Moon, Cengar the moon of a red planet similar to Mars. It is the location of one of the most brutal fronts during the Ton takeover of the Galaxy as well as a series of very costly wins for the Galactic Federation.
Welcome to Ceres:
Tumblr media
Ceres is a manufacturing powerhouse in the galaxy that has found a way to balance its industrial nature with an ornate charm. It's one of the more populous cities in the Galaxy as many immigrate here for the array of union-supported manufacturing jobs. There's a good chance that if you're sitting in a spaceship, it was made on Ceres.
Welcome to Dalazor:
Tumblr media
Temperature on land varies very little on Dalazor, averaging between 64° and 82° F. Climate is mostly dependent on slope orientation and whether the land area falls in a rain shadow. Winds reliably blow east to west, bringing rainfall on exposed slopes and hot and dry weather on leeward slopes. Of the Köppen climates, the people living on these land formations mainly experience the following climates: Tropical Rainforest, Tropical Savanna, Hot Semi-Arid, Warm Summer Mediterranean, and Oceanic. Some areas also experience monsoons.
Dalazor is home to a native ectothermal sentient species which features horns that help with their thermal regulation. They also exhibit the ability to change skin tone to absorb more or less sun. These changes and colors are seen most vividly along the Blaschko lines. The most common skin tones vary from a light blue (#52B2BF) to a dark blue (#022D36) or a light green (#74B72E) to a dark green (#354A21). Less commonly seen is a light pink to a deep red and it occurs more in males than females. The prevalence of green and blue tones is believed to be a result of Zorians primarily evolving in tropical rainforests. Some Zorians may be born with chimerism and may have an uneven distribution of red, blue, or green. All Zorians are born with bat-like ears on the side of their heads. As they age, they develop bony ridges along the suture lines of their skulls and along their brow bone. Their horns also develop from from small bony, nub-like growths beneath the skin. As adults, these features are fully formed and their appearance varies between individuals.
Welcome to Jannah:
Tumblr media
Jannah is colloquially known as the Peaceful Planet or the Planet of History. The Human civilizations of Jannah are some of the oldest in the galaxy, and that is reflected in their deep cultural traditions and the strength of their connection to the planet. Jannah is scattered with old cities and the ruins of buildings that long ago fell into disuse.
I have some planets for y'all.
These are not fanon planets. They're all-original material for the series I'm working on.
The collages that follow are photos from the Google machine to help give me the "vibes" I want to capture in my writing.
