I know in recent comic adaptation portray her with way lighter skin tone but her ORIGINAL appearance shows her with DARKER skintone (thought not as dark as her “mother”). As such, I have seen Laura as half white and half Afro Latina but the Hispanic nationality is unknown. Also, as a side note, her creators also mentioned they planned to do a LGBT storyline with Laura but it was axed. So, she’s also LGBT.

Biden's Family Urges Him To Stay, Says He Should Axe Advisers
Tumblr media
youtube
President Joe Biden's family members privately trashed his campaign advisers this weekend at Camp David, blamed them for his failure in Thursday's debate, and urged Biden to either fire or demote people, Politico reported.
According to three people who were told about the family discussions but were not directly involved with them, there is no immediate expectation that the president will listen to their advice.
Biden's family members complained about the debate practice: that he could not pivot to attack more, that he could not outline a vision for a second term, and that he was overworked.
Politico reported that the blame was cast mostly on staffers, including senior adviser Anita Dunn; her husband and Biden's attorney, Bob Bauer, who stood in for former President Donald Trump during debate rehearsals; and former chief of staff Ron Klain, who ran point on debate prep.
However, Biden campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said in a statement, "The aides who prepped the president have been with him for years, often decades, seeing him through victories and challenges. He maintains strong confidence in them."
Biden allies and staffers have blamed many factors for the president's bad debate performance, such as his having a cold or being overprepared. However, as the finger-pointing has moved toward Biden's advisers, it has allowed the family to overlook Biden's own failings in the debate.
The Biden family also expected to talk about the best way to reassure the Democrats that staying in the race is the correct decision. Biden's campaign staff also grew angrier at CNN for how the debate was run, including not fact-checking Trump enough, Biden's pale appearance on camera, and his not knowing which camera he'd be on when not speaking.
Biden's raspy voice, trailing answers, and deflated stage presence during the debate panicked Democrats about whether the president's campaign is viable and whether he should potentially be replaced.
The concern among voters about Biden's age likely will only grow from the debate.
A CBS News/YouGov poll published Sunday showed an increase in registered voters who do not believe that he has the mental and cognitive health to serve as president, from 65% earlier this month to 72% currently. Democrats are also split as to whether he should run for president, with 46% of registered Democrats saying he should not, while 54% say he should.
People close to Biden say that the only way Biden would drop out of the race is if his family encouraged him to do so.

Klopp warns Newcastle that money doesn't buy success
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has warned Newcastle that money does not buy success as the Magpies dream of joining the European elite after their Saudi-led takeover.
Tumblr media
Struggling Newcastle are the talk of the Premier League following the £305 million (S$565.2 million) takeover as the new owners prepare to start their reign against Tottenham on Sunday (Oct 17).
Newcastle hope to emulate the sustained success enjoyed by Premier League champions Manchester City under their Abu Dhabi-based backers.
Klopp expects Newcastle to fulfil their ambitions eventually, but he suggested it might be a rocky road to the top because money alone cannot guarantee success.
"What will it mean for football? A few months we had an issue with clubs building a Super League, and rightly so. But this is building a super team, guaranteed places in the Champions League in a few years," Klopp told reporters on Friday.
"Newcastle fans will love it, but money doesn't buy success. They have money to make mistakes, but they will be where they want eventually."
Newcastle's takeover was greeted with dismay by Amnesty International, which described it as a "bitter blow for human rights defenders".
Saudi Arabia faced international condemnation following the brutal murder of Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi in the kingdom's Istanbul consulate three years ago.
"I was waiting for official statements from (Premier League chief executive) Richard Masters because obviously there are concerns about human rights, that is obvious," Klopp said.
Klopp revealed Liverpool are sending goalkeeper Alisson Becker and midfielder Fabinho straight to Spain from international duty with Brazil to complete their coronavirus quarantine.
The pair will miss Saturday's trip to Watford and, with Liverpool facing Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, they can instead finish their quarantine in Spain.
"We had to sort quarantine issues and the decision we made is the boys will not be here," Klopp said.
"They will go directly to Madrid, wait there for us, hopefully be able to play against Atletico, then will come back slightly later than us, so then they can come back in our normal procedure again."
Klopp also took a swipe at England manager Gareth Southgate's decision to select John Stones for the recent World Cup qualifiers despite his lack of club action this term.
Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez missed out on a place in Southgate's squad and Klopp said: "Sometimes Gareth reacts if you are not playing for your club you can't play for the national team.
"Obviously there is a special thing for Mr Stones. Joe is in top shape. It would have helped him to get called up by England if he played some games."
Klopp believes Liverpool's bid to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea will be tested by Watford, who have new manager Claudio Ranieri at the helm.
The former Leicester boss has replaced Xisco Munoz, who was axed just months after leading Watford to promotion from the Championship.
"It is harsh how Watford deal with managers. How can you be surprised they made a change? I don't like this," Klopp said.
"Claudio's arrival makes things difficult, but we have to play our game."

Watford axe Xisco Munoz as talks held with title-winning Italian
Watford axe Xisco Munoz as talks held with title-winning Italian
The managerial merry-go-round at Watford continues as Xisco Munoz has been sacked after 10 months in charge of the club. The 41-year-old was recruited in December last year to replace Vladimir Ivic. Serbian Ivac lasted just four months in the Vicarage Road hotseat and was jettisoned with the club fifth in the Championship. His and Xisco’s exit was no real surprise as the Hertfordshire outfit have…

Fantasticamania 2019 Night 5 - 1/16/2019; Rush Signs to ROH to Get More NJPW Bookings?; This Week’s NJPW on AXS: Lead-in to Women of Wrestling
Tumblr media
The Fantasticamania tour returned today, in a show you can watch now on  NJPWWorld. It was the first round of the CMLL Family Tag Tournament as well.
- 1/16/2019, Chiba Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall (NJPWWorld)
Forastero, Taiji Ishimori [Bullet Club] & Gedo [Bullet Club] d. Titan, Ryusuke Taguchi & KUSHIDA (Forastero > Titan, Triangle Choke, 7:41)
Raijin & Fujin d. BUSHI & Shingo Takagi [Los Ingobernables] (Fujin > BUSHI, La Casita, 10:21)
Angel de Oro, Soberano Jr. & Audaz d. Barbaro Cavernario, Shigeo Okumura & Namajague (Soberano > Okumura, La Bufadora, 12:10)
Terrible & Tetsuya Naito [Los Ingobernables] d. Satoshi Kojima & Toa Henare (Terrible > Henare, La Terriblina, 12:02)
Caristico, Jushin Thunder Liger & Tiger Mask IV d. Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero & Templario (Caristico > Templario, La Mistica, 11:21)
CMLL Family Tag Tournament 1st Round: Sanson & Cuatrero d. Atlantis & Atlantis Jr. (Sanson > Atlantis Jr., Sanson Special, 9:52)
CMLL Family Tag Tournament 1st Round: Mistico & Dragon Lee d. Volador Jr. & Flyer (Dragon > Flyer, Desnucadora, 14:35)
So the final for Friday’s show is set: NGD v. Dinastia Munoz. Luckily they just had a match together a week ago Tuesday, in the final CMLL show before Fantasticamania began. Templario already acts as kind of an alternate Guerrero Lagunero in Mexico, in case one of the other three (Ultimo, Gran and Euforia) aren’t booked in the match, and has a black/green alternate outfit. Raijin & Fujin beating BUSHI/Shingo is a nice way to backdoor a challenge by RPG3K in the event the LIJ squad beats Kanemaru/Desperado on 2/3. Terrible gets a direct win on the way to he and Kojima’s singles challenge this weekend.
Speaking of Dinastia Munoz, the internet was abuzz yesterday after Rush announced he was signing exclusively with ROH. Now, that only holds for the USA and Canada, and Rush can still work CMLL when and as he chooses. But Rush v. LA Park in MLW during Mania Weekend in NYC in April has already been called off. One interesting note about this: he claims he took the ROH contract to increase his chances of going to Japan. Uh... huh. I don’t know much more than that. Friend of the blog/podcast TheCubsFan has a lengthy article about this, so go read that, as he knows more than I do, honestly. Still, more Rush in NJPW, and chances to see Rush in the USA, are welcome. Just hope ROH does right by him (They won’t).
Tumblr media
This week’s NJPW on AXS finishes up WK13 coverage, with a regular length episode. The only advertised match is KUSHIDA defending the IWGP Junior Heavyweight belt against Taiji Ishimori, which is a pretty good match IMO, but won’t fill the hour, so there has to be other stuff going on. Starts at 8pm EST / 7pm CST, with the new announce team of Kevin Kelly & Don Callis.
This week, however, is more about getting over the new wrestling show on the AXS lineup, WOW, or Women of Wrestling. This is actually not brand new; there was a WOW show in 2000-2002, created and run by David McLane, the original founder of GLOW (the actual 1980s TV promotion, not the Netflix sitcom that’s based on it). The show was revived in 2015 on YouTube as WOW Superheroes, and is now in its 5th season of the revival, which will premiere on AXS TV immediately after NJPW. So if you have any memory of the original promotion (I really hope Riot and Poison are still involved, I remember them being very good compared to most), or want to see the state of independent women’s wrestling in the USA, tune in. More wrestling doing well can only help.
NJPW still have not announced the updated card for Friday’s show, but here’s what we have.
- 1/18/2019, Tokyo Korakuen Hall (NJPWWorld)
CMLL Family Tag Tournament Final: Mistico & Dragon Lee v. Sanson & Cuatrero
Soberano Jr. v. Barbaro Cavernario
Black Cat Memorial Match: Satoshi Kojima, Toa Henare, Raijin & Fujin v. Terrible, Tetsuya Naito, BUSHI & Shingo Takagi [Los Ingobernables]

Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault trial set for May
FILE PHOTO: Film producer Harvey Weinstein exits the New York Supreme Court in the Manhattan borough of New York City, New York, U.S., December 20, 2018. REUTERS/Eduardo Munoz/File Photo
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein will go on trial in Manhattan on May 6 on charges of sexually assaulting two women, his lawyer said on Tuesday.
Weinstein is accused of forcibly performing oral sex on a woman in July 2006 and raping another woman in March 2013. He faces five charges, including rape, and a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.
More than 70 women, mostly young actresses and others in the movie business, have accused Weinstein, 66, of sexual assaults dating back decades. The scandal helped launch the #MeToo movement, in which hundreds of women have publicly accused powerful men in entertainment, politics and other fields of sexual misconduct.
Weinstein, who pleaded not guilty after his arrest last May, has denied all the accusations, saying any sexual encounters were consensual.
The New York prosecution, which was brought by the Manhattan district attorney’s office, is the only criminal case to emerge from those allegations to date.
Weinstein’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, confirmed the trial date in an email on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Manhattan district attorney’s office declined to comment.
Weinstein is due back in court for a pretrial conference on March 7.

Astronomers B healthcare  elieve There May Be a New Population of Circumbinary Planets
www.inhandnetworks.com
This artist’s concept illustrates Kepler-16b, the first planet known to definitively orbit two stars – what’s called a circumbinary planet. The planet, which can be seen in the foreground, was discovered by NASA’s Kepler mission. Credits: NASA/JPL-Caltech/T. Pyle
Newly published research from astronomers at Cornell University suggests that there may be a new population of circumbinary planets, which orbit around more-compact binaries (with periods less than a few days) and have their orbital axes misaligned with the binary axes.
Sibling suns – made famous in the “Star Wars” scene where Luke Skywalker gazes toward a double sunset – and the planets around them may be more common than we’ve thought, and Cornell astronomers are presenting new ideas on how to find them.
Astronomers could discover a plethora of planets around binary star systems (stars that rotate around each other) by measuring with high precision how stars move around each other, looking for disturbances exerted by possible exoplanets. So explains new research, “Survival of Planets Around Shrinking Stellar Binaries,” published in the Proceedings of the National Academy Sciences, July 9, by Diego J. Munoz, Cornell postdoctoral researcher, and Dong Lai, professor of astronomy, in the College of Arts and Scien retail  ces.
What once was fictional as young Skywalker saw the double suns from Tatooi cashless vending  ne is astronomical reality four decades later. Normal binary suns orbit each other every eight to 100 days, and the Kepler telescope easily can detect those exoplanets (planets outside of our own solar system) as the planets transit (move across) each sun.
Trouble starts in compact binary sun systems – where sibling suns move closer together – making it difficult for the most advanced telescopes to find them. Essentially, for Kepler and other telescopes, the planetary orbital plane of these double suns and their accompanying planets might be out of whack – or misaligned – rendering them invisible to us. “The current observational strategy inevitably misses a population of Tatooine planets, but future observations may reveal their existence,” said Munoz.
NASA video describes the Kepler satellite’s first discovery of a planet orbiting sibling suns in 2011. With the publication of this Cornell research, astronomers may be able to find planets within compact binary systems.
NASA’s Kepler telescope is a heliocentric (it orbits the sun) spacecraft that monitors star brightness in a Milky Way region near the constellation Cygnus, the swan. Measuring photons, Kepler detects lower light values – and thus, a planetary transit.
Munoz explains that suns in the close binary system likely were once standard systems that have lost energy and shrunk, bringing the suns closer together. As the sibling sun’s distance decreases, the orbits of that s modem  ystem’s planets become misaligned, rendering it impossible for the Kepler telescope to detect planets – which no longer cross in the front of the suns.
Munoz and Lai suggest scouting for exoplanet-caused disturbances for compact binary star systems, to determine a new population of circumbinary planets. Said Munoz: “Since this type of ‘compact’ binary is very common, it had been very puzzling that no planets had been detected.”
This research was funded by the National Science Foundation and by NASA.

Why ABC reacted so swiftly to Roseanne's racist tweet
http://bit.ly/2sqQb2h
youtube
ABC Entertainment, which produced the revamped version of “Roseanne,” is the latest company to learn the challenge of doing business in an age when citizen activism is amplified by social media.
The network canceled the hit show after its star, Roseanne Barr, sent a racist tweet – since deleted – that prompted outrage and a potential ad boycott. Other networks have chosen to axe reruns of the original “Roseanne.”
While ABC’s swift decision stunned observers, it suggests companies are learning from recent PR stumbles by the likes of United Airlines and Uber. Incidents that not so long ago would have been relatively isolated are inflaming public sentiment at a breathtaking pace, catching companies wrong-footed and significantly raising the stakes of such missteps.
As my research into online social networks shows, these incidents illustrate the challenges for companies in dealing with the fallout of bad publicity as social media amplifies both the reach and range of responses available to concerned individuals.
A massive shift
Social activism has fundamentally shifted in the age of social media.
In United’s case, videos showing security forcibly removing a passenger from a flight in April 2017 went viral before the plane had even taken off. It sparked a furor that caused United’s stock to drop and its CEO to apologize several times and refund the fares of every passenger on the flight.
Uber faced a similar PR crisis after it appeared to align itself with President Donald Trump’s refugee ban. At least 200,000 people removed Uber apps from their phones.
The main difference between what happened to ABC, United or Uber today and what would have happened 20 years ago is the speed, scale and spread of digital activism.
Back then, people would not have the means to either raise awareness or mobilize for a cause at this speed and scale. Outrage over the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989, for example, eventually led to an award of millions of dollars in damages, but it took months for the scale of disaster to become clear and years of protracted negotiations.
In contrast, today’s companies that make PR mistakes face substantial damage within hours of the incidents, resulting in boycotts and spooked investors.
While some commentators say this reveals a crisis in public relations management, the truth is social media’s fast pace is putting incredible demands on PR professionals.
How activism goes viral
There are two main mechanisms that are influential in shaping the virality of digital activism.
The first one involves how social media platforms like Twitter provide a leading opinion-making role to a few key – and connected – individuals, amplifying their voices and allowing videos and memes to spread. For example, the viral #DeleteUber campaign began with a single tweet from a Chicago journalist named Dan O'Sullivan.
A study of online social interactions showed that a small set of “seed” users (with lots of followers) account for a disproportionately large share of viral phenomenon on social media. In other words, all it takes is a few retweets by celebrities or news personalities with sizable followings to share almost instantly a “call to arms” with thousands if not millions of users, many of whom will also retweet the video or hashtag.
The second mechanism involves how social media amplifies the visibility of viral phenomenon by turning more individuals into opinion-makers as they easily engage with others like them – which is known as homophily, or a preference for like-minded others.
The resulting activism spirals into a large-scale online movement that is impossible for companies to ignore. In a paper I co-authored with business professors Yong Tan of the University of Washington and Cath Oh of Georgia State University, we documented how online conversations accomplish this.
As I found in another study with Tan and Oh, once a hashtag reaches a threshold of visibility, subsequent online conversations between individuals only magnify the influence and spread of the hashtag. This helps turn users from passive sharers into active broadcasters.
While the age of TV makes it possible that one person’s act of protest can be broadcast very quickly around the world, it is the opinion-making role of social media, when combined with its reach and speed, that makes digital activism compelling.
Message for businesses
So what does this mean for companies?
Because consumers often consider themselves to be in a “social contract” with businesses, which are supposed to care about their well-being, the biggest problems emerge when companies do something that appears to violate it. That’s what happened when United’s Oscar Munoz described dragging a passenger off a plane as “reaccommodating” him.
Some companies, however, have learned how to manage the power of social media by being proactive in dealing with cultural and political issues that could trigger a backlash from consumers if poorly handled.
This, however, might be of little use after an embarrassing incident like United’s. That situation illustrates the importance of being flexible with processes, as well as with communications. In his 2017 letter to shareholders, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos hit this on the nose when he noted how “it’s not that rare to hear a junior leader defend a bad outcome with something like, ‘Well, we followed the process.’”
This is exactly what happened to United when the CEO’s initial defense of what his crew did on April 9 only exacerbated the problem. And I believe it’s why ABC didn’t hesitate in dropping “Roseanne” before the backlash spread.
The old adage is that the customer is always right. Today’s fast-paced world means this idea is more important that ever, and companies need to communicate clearly and to proactively keep consumer trust when it’s violated.
When it comes to negative fallout from social media, it is important to act quickly – even if there are some missteps at first.

Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault trial set for May: court papers
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein will go on trial in Manhattan on May 6 on charges of sexually assaulting two women, his lawyer said in a court filing.

Weinstein is accused of forcibly performing oral sex on a woman in July 2006 and raping another woman in March 2013. He faces five charges, including rape, and a maximum sentence of life in prison.
Weinstein’s lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, disclosed the trial date in a filing on Monday in a related federal civil case brought by an anonymous accuser. Brafman is seeking to have the case put on hold until the criminal case is resolved.
Brafman also said prosecutors will seek permission from the trial judge to call other accusers as witnesses, even though their allegations are not part of the criminal charges at hand.
While prosecutors are typically barred from calling “prior bad act” witnesses, judges will occasionally allow it for certain narrow purposes, such as demonstrating that a defendant had a particular method of committing his offenses.
The trial is expected to last six weeks, Brafman wrote.
Brafman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A spokesman for the Manhattan district attorney’s office declined to comment.
