Restlessness takes over and I go to the desk and try to write. I feel as though it's been years. Creative writing I mean. Not just notetaking.

Breaking with routine I light up an Avo cigar. Avo (Uvezian) I think is still living. Pianist and songwriter. Made a lot of money with a tune that became a big hit. (But hit tunes are collaborative efforts. He was, I think, one of many involved.) He made enough money to start a high end cigar business. It succeeded wildly. It is said that he is the composer of "Strangers in the Night." There is controversy about this but cigar smokers say this is true. It makes a good story.

The Yankees lose their eighth in a row. Much unhappiness up there in the Bronx.

For his many crimes D J Trump is supposed to turn himself in, in a few days, down in Atlanta. He still has a few days to talk himself out of it. Now they are saying he will show up next Thursday, or Friday. He will be photographed (mugshot, though we all know that face), fingerprinted, and (cough) weighed.

Cigar of the Day: Placencia Reserva Original

Early morning Placencia Reserva Original before work with the dog. I'm eyeballing this; playing it by ear I would say 38 ring gauge by 4 inches.

 It is immediately evocative of something familiar. I try to figure that out and I come up with… Chateau Fuente maybe?

 It's sweet but in a vegetal way, Like eggplant parmesan served with a cucumber sandwich.

I'm not sure what Placencia calls this size; every band that makes something similar calls it something different; Camacho calls it a machito, Davidoff a primero, Arturo Fuente calls it an exquisito, and Avo calls it something else even though they're also owned by Davidoff, and Graycliff calls it a piccolo—I like that best, so we'll call it a piccolo.

The aroma and flavor profile seems to become more agricultural as we go along.  I am reminded of hay and sod, and the sheep shearing festival at Gore Place—this kind of barnyard animal redolence, but it's not unpleasant.  Feels organic, warm, comforting.

Despite the small size, this is definitely a medium to full body cigar. If this was a Toro, I think I might be Bowled over. I would have to sit down. That would not be a walking around stick, but in a small size, it is a pleasant surprise. I wasn't really prepared for near Punch Classico level of strength this morning. Sometimes I want that black black coffee, but I had for some reason assumed that this was going to be on the milder side, and as it turns out that is not the case. I don't think that it is bad or displeasing, but the whole eggplant-cucumber-sandwich-barnyard-animals progression doesn't exactly feel like breakfast.
