          𝐃𝐎𝐆𝐒 have fantastic memories, humans may not know this but a dog rarely forgets it’s dear ones no matter how much time has passed! Memories may not present the same, may not be as specific for dogs lack the same words and processes humans hold, but associations are strong. 

          So the minute Ace smells the human he’s on the move. Not as the loyal defender but as a rather unsure scout. The scent is confusing, layered with things he cannot quite name. It takes all of Ace’s skills as a hound to look deeper than the initial layer and decider what he was truly smelling. It was familiar, with such great love associated with it. Warm as a rug in front of the fireplace. 

          He scrambles forth and cuts corners of long twisting hallways following his nose. He seeks out the man with a few unsure barks, though the closer he got the more excited he becomes. He let out a breathy aff, upon sight he unsurely waved his tail behind him. There was recognition there but deep hesitation. Did he truly know this person? The scent was strange and from so long ago in dog terms. He was sure it was familiar but this human was so so big compared to who he was thinking of.

          Ace cocked his head and let out a low rather confused rumble, though did not stop the slow wave of his tail.

perhaps once upon a time it seemed feasible, back when he was younger, still finding his own footing. setting out was easier when he didn’t have to think of all he left behind. but he remembers that little kid who wore his uniform, the one who enjoyed reading and snow cones at the carnival --it’s hard to believe he’s standing over him now, weapons drawn and ready to fight. 

in a lot of ways, it still doesn’t feel real... two men, expressions colored with anger, polar opposites of the boys they used to be.

he’s right, of course. jason owes nothing to the bat-symbol that had once got him killed. and yet... “YOU’RE STILL HERE.” cass points out quietly, non-combative. she looks up at this brother of hers, brown eyes intent, as when she’s determined to figure something out. “STILL...A HERO. WHY?” she wonders if he understands the intent behind her question, not just why fight for a  place that hurts you --cass understands the pull to be a hero, to be good, to repent. but -- does jason have regrets the way she does? cass doesn’t know if jason has killed people, felt their life ebb away as their eyes dulled. does jason dream about death, the way that cassandra does? she wants to ask all of these things, doesn’t have the words for any of them.

i know this would probably be very unsafe/inefficient in practice, but would culled sparrows be considered edible?

Yes.

You can absolutely eat them. Some falconers do. There are a lot of old European recipes specifically for cooking sparrow.

The breast meat is about all there is to them so you need a lot of sparrows to make a meal, but yeah. You can.

I believe starlings supposedly taste better, and they are also ethical to cull in North America as they’re another invasive species which not only harms our native birds but also has a habit of swarming crops in huge murmurations causing around $800 million a year to farmers.

The only concern in eating them would be that you want to know where they’re coming from. You may want to quarantine them for a week or two to ensure they haven’t consumed rodenticide or avicide. Most will be safe to eat though I would freeze and then cook prior but it’s significantly safer than eating venison or feral boar and people do that all the time.

Missable Deltarune Details: Flashback Fountain

flashback_excerpt.ogg is itself pretty missable--I'm told it only plays in-game if you meet Noelle in the hospital after completing the Snowgrave Route. (Me, I listen to the songs directly from the game files--no avicide in my life, thanks.)

This song is weird. The name suggests it might be an excerpt from a post-ch2 song run through a lo-fi pitch wobbler. With its choral notes and overall Super Nintendo feel, its style evokes The Dark Truth; one must wonder how it's connected to Noelle.

But the thing that really blew my mind as I was listening tonight? In the second half, behind the choral notes, the chimes, and the ticking clock, the strings are playing a melody.

And it's the same melody the choir sings in THE HOLY.
