The Time of Myths

I’ve noticed plenty of post-Korra Avatars on Tumblr. There are Avatar Genji, Niiko, Hikar, Juno… and probably some others I’m forgetting too. Regardless, it’s fantastic! Being able to bring the Avatar world with semi-recent history or even the near future is a great thing. You get to explore how bending, technology, and culture have developed in that world. Loads of fun to be had from that/

One thing I haven’t noticed here is a lot of Avatars from the past. I saw it a lot more with fan works in the past, but not so much here. But let’s face it- there’s a lot of wiggle room for Avatars between Wan and Yangchen, who I believe is the last named Avatar we know of. Like with Avatar-verse fan character possibilities, there are plenty of opportunities to explore what might have existed in their world’s past. Heck, there were some tribes, cultures, and such that were outright exterminated (or at least forced into hiding) by the Fire Nation during the war.

That’s a reason why I decided to make Maiken a past Avatar instead. Don’t get me wrong- I love Legend of Korra to pieces, but the rapid modernization took away some of the magic I loved from A:TLA. Back then, before airplanes, airships, battleships, and such, the world seemed so much bigger that it could make for a true epic tale. That’s really where I’m going with this story.

Well, that and I just really like Air Nomads, and I just can’t include them in anything post-Sozin. And that adds to my point! We only get glimpses of what Air Nomad society was like before the Fire Nation ruined everything, which makes me want to imagine more about it. This applies to Sun Warriors too, about whom we’ve learned even less. It’s somewhat frustrating, but I feel like it lends to greater fan character potential at the same time.

Just for the record, my pre-Aang project’s technology levels will be somewhat more Da Vinci-like, especially in the Fire Nation. They’re currently in a cultural renaissance anyway, so it makes sense. As well, I’m definitely trying for a ‘larger than life’ feel that Wuxia and other old tales exhibit so well. Sure, there won’t be any giant mechas with spirit cannons, but you don’t need those to make things entertaining.

There’s also the AU factor of the Avatar being dead/gone, but that shouldn’t affect things too much. Right?

I love this project! This and Legend of Genji fill the void in my heart after I finished Atla and Lok. I do plan on reading the graphic novels and Kyoshi novels. Good luck to everyone working on this!

Hi, just wanted to say that I love your art. And I also wanted to ask, have you seen any of the "Four Earth Avatars" (Genji, Juno, Hikar, and Niiko) fan continuations of Legend of Korra? If so, what are your thoughts?

Yo, what’s up?!

First of all, I hope you guys are staying safe at home during this crazy times.

Second, as you might have noticed, I, AirMasterParker (creator of this story and the one typing this text), recently deleted my personal Tumblr. Not because I hate the site, or the people over here, but rather to stay more away from social media and clear my mental health, and the fact that I have amuch larger following on Instagram than I had in Tumblr (691 and 75 respectively). I rarely posted my art here and focused more on IG, and when I was here I used to just reblog shit-posts, political stuff, and random Avatar stuff, and a couple days ago, I was like “Why am I doing this? I’m not gaining any reach here with my original content, and I don’t interact with people here. THIS PROFILE (@/airmasterparker, now deleted) IS POINTLESS.”

Thus I decided it was time to let go of that account that never became what I expected it to be.

Last thing, this account will solely be focused in my comic and my fellow people at @legendofgenji @legend-of-vahni @avatarhanami @niikocomic @avatarnewera

Sorry for all the regular followers I had, I hope this restart will help clear my mind.

and i thought the legend of genji was cool! here i am scrolling through the atla tag and stumble across this masterpiece!!!! it all looked so good i thought it was official :O after looking through all your stuff, i got to ask, what inspired this remarkable story?

That’s because it’s super cool! All of our fellow comic creators are doing a freaking amazing job, that’s for sure! 

I could say the shows themselves, but I haven’t seen a ton of people looking into the early Avatars except Wan, so it was the never-ending questions of “How did this happen? What happened at this point? How did these people get here?” sort of ordeal! There was just too much potential that was going to waste!
