Yes, I hated Jonathan for cheating on his new girlfriend/wife. Yes, I couldn't believe he became who he was trying to break from. Sadly this is a reality for many abused spouses/partners. I'm one of the lucky ones that had broken free of the trauma bond due to strong family ties. I know its possible for this not to happen, but there is *never* a clean break for victims.

Its usually you go back and forth and back and forth before you can actually leave. I even had to. I wanted to leave my ex husband January 2019. It was mid-month and I tried! I did it the wrong way. I didn't tell my ex I'd be leaving to get space and taking our kid with me. He could have pressed charges for kidnapping. I had to go back. Then every weekend we'd come to my Moms house for the next three to four weeks. The fourth week on my birthday we left. Yes, that would have been February 2019.

There were attempts at hoovering and other such manipulations to get me back. If I didn't have my sister teaching me how to avoid the hoovering I would have fallen for it and been back in his clutches. That's what happened to Jonathan. Mira hoovered and he came back. He didn't have a support system like I did to keep him from going back. He fell for it. Simple as that.

Everything he did was in effort to survive. That means that you stoop down to your abusers level and mirror back the gaslighting, emotional manipulation, condescension, reactionary abuse, word salad, name calling, attempts at control, screaming, shouting, cursing. Its called mutual abuse at that point, and no... neither person is innocent. Its a survival mechanism. Survival isn't pretty.

You only saw him live out the end of his abusive marriage, even men are abused. Its not just women and men in same sex relationships. Straight men or men in straight presenting relationships get abused too. Jonathan is one of them. Jonathan *is* the victim. He can't have a "victim mentality" if he is a victim. He is the victim. Mira used his innocence and a medical emergency to get what she wanted from him and then further manipulated him and abused him over the duration of a decade long marriage.

So, no. He's not problematic. He's not a bad guy. He's a good guy in a bad situation who handled it poorly due to having a poor support system. Its his unconditional love and excellent treatment of Ava that shows his true colors. We never see him be mean or rough with her. We never see him take out his stress on her. We see that he moves them both into his study because after Mira callously left her husband and daughter that she can't sleep by herself. Afraid that Daddy will leave too.

We see the first morning after Mira leaves, he's ticked, hes mad, he smashes his phone and bites his hand in effort to make sure Ava doesn't wake up. Then, when she does, he's instantly gentle with her. Adopting a soft voice, eyes, and posture. The affects of a good father who is *not* being watched.

Mira is the monster, not Jonathan. We barely see her with Ava. When we do its interactions in front of other people where she has to be good and nice. Covert manipulators, like Mira, are good that. My ex husband was. My ex was always good with our kid and I in front of other people. You'd think he was the best Dad and Husband on Earth! He wasn't. He was a lying, manipulative, abusive prick. So much so I have PTSD. I bet Jonathan has it too, if not C-PTSD from what we hear about his childhood from his writings about his father in episode 3.

Thinking that maybe Levi had some of his own things to work  on before he could make things right with Gianna, the man made his way towards the town’s therapist. Talking to a shrink wasn’t exactly high on his to-do list, but he would feel like utter shit if he told the woman to work on herself, but didn’t do the same. He needed help with communicating and just letting go of his past instead of letting it haunt him. As he was walking towards the house that he was told he could find the woman, he actually spotted her outside. Well, at least he assumed that was her, or else she had some creepy person tending to her flowers. “Ava,” he asked politely. “I’m sure this isn’t how you do things, but I was wondering if I could schedule an appointment with you.”

Ava has taken to spending her mornings outside in her garden, she either read, painted or tended to the things within it. Today it was the latter, an audio book played on a bench a few feet away from her as she picked at the weeds. Hearing her name she slowly glanced up and smiled at Levi. She had seen the man around the island but they hadn’t spoken all to much, enough she would call him an aquantince, but not much more. “Levi” she said raising a hand in greeting, it was covered in dirt. “Not normally,” she started, standing up and brushing the dirt off her hands and onto her apron. “Sounds like you have a lot on your mind,” she motioned for him to follow her to the side door, once there she opened the door and stepped inside to wash her hands. “You caught me a bit early, and I don’t have an appointment first thing today, if you want, we can talk while we walk to my work, and you can take the first appointment of the day.” she offered with a smile.

The man shoved his hands in his pockets and shrugged his shoulders slightly at the idea of having a lot on his mind. It wasn’t much more than usual, but he also wasn’t used to the idea of talking to someone about his problems. All of his life he carried his problems on his shoulders, and there is a lot he kept deep down. Still, he couldn’t tell someone to work on themselves and not do the same, so with a breath he nodded. “I guess. I mean, no more than normal, but I just want to try something different since the old shit ain’t working.” He was thankful that Ava was such a kind person, and he happily nodded his head. “Yeah, that would be cool. I can wait out here if you want.”

“You guess” she repeated as she peeled the apron off of her and hung it on the hook just outside the door. “If you say so, normally I’d assume someone comes to me when they have a lot on their mind. It’s okay to be overwhelmed by it all” she motioned for him to follow her in, “Sit sit, I need to change it’ll take only a minute, there’s water bottles in the fridge, feel free to grab one for the walk.” she made her way to the staircase and smiled at him before dating upstairs. It wasn’t a long walk, on the contrary the island was tiny you could walk the whole of the populated area in under an hour, then the rest was mountains, wine fields and farmland, but it was still a Grecian sun. So it was hot. She quickly changed clothes and made her way back downstairs in a more respectable outfit, a simple summer dress but it wasn’t covered in dirty. She returned downstairs a few minutes later, a light dusting of makeup over her face. “did you get some water?” she asked as she picked up her purse and motioned for him to follow once again.

“It’s more like I’m used to dealing with things by myself, but after a conversation with someone I really care about where I told her she needed to work on herself, I thought I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t try to be my best self too, you know,” he asked in a voice that almost sounded shy. He was already talking about more feelings with someone than he usually felt comfortable. It was crazy how love for a girl could get someone to do all kinds of weird things. He nodded his head in response to her instructions and moved to the fridge to grab a bottle. Water wasn’t something he drank enough of, but he was trying to get better at it. Last thing he wanted was a kidney stone. That looked like it hurt like a bitch. Once he had the water, he sat on the couch and rested the ankle of his right leg on his left knee. It didn’t take long for Ava to make her way back down though. “I did,” he said kindly as he waved the bottle to show. Then, he was up and following again. “Thanks for talking to me on the short notice, Ava. I know you’re pretty busy usually.”

Ava shook her head as she lead them out of the room and slowly made their way towards her work, "It's not a problem, I'm happy to get you in, even if its because you're feeling a bit of guilt" She smirked as they walked, "Is there anything in particular you know you want to work on?" she asked raising an eyebrow, "Or want to talk about?" She was used to people having a general idea of why people came to her, even if it was just because they were having an issue with xy or z. But coming in totally blind -- without even knowing a bit about Levi was a bit odd.

“Yeah, I want to work on letting go of my past,” he answered easily. That was always his problem, and it had gotten much easier to say. Talking about what he wanted to let go was another thing though. “I’m not proud of who I was growing up. Up until I was almost seventeen I was a thug. My mom was with the biggest gang leader in Chicago, and he raised me in his spitting image. I strapped my first gun at twelve, and almost beat a guy to death with a brick at fourteen just because he was dealing on my turf. I’ve never been able to let go of it all,” he answered before losing the guts to do so. He followed her as she led the way to her office. At least now she knew what he wanted to focus on.

Her attention shifted from the road they were walking on to him when he spoke, "What in your past are you holding onto?" she asked. As he started to talk she nodded her head taking in the bit of his past that he was willing to speak on and storing it away. It made a bit more sense of the man walking next to her, the little things she had picked up on in their interactions, the way he watched the world and moved through it. "That is a lot you're holding onto. But I'm very proud of you for being able to talk about it openly with me."  Ava turned to walk them down the alley that she usually took as a shortcut every morning to work, however, that morning she didn’t seem to ever appear out of that alley. In fact, she didn’t make it to any of her appointments that morning, and Levi never opened his shop. It was just as if the two vanished into thin air.

We seem to be in a golden era of health and trauma memoirs, and I am so grateful. What My Bones Know is an absolutely stunning story or resilience and healing that gave me so much hope. This one immediately goes to the top of my 2022 reads and is an all-time favorite memoir.

CFWC Valentine's Day: A Blind Date

Our Valentine's Day Event is here!

How does this work?

Each day has three characters and a date prompt. For example, Day 1 is: Kamilah Sayeed (BB) / Drake Walker (TRR) / Victoria Fontaine (RCD) - Axe Throwing

Pick any two characters and write about their blind date ax throwing.

WILD CARD: You can also pick just one character and use ANY M/C - but it cannot be the same MC from the same book that the character you select is in. So, Riley (TRR/MC) can go on a blind date with Kamilah, but not Drake.

Some pairings are "weird" that's ok. Say you have a character from a historical fic and others who are not, you can change the character to a modern-day version, or make the current day version a character in the past. You can time travel. Whatever you want to do.

The date does not have to take place on Valentine's Day.

To participate, you can write a fanfic, drabble, or ficlet and, for this event only, we are allowing headcanons as well.

While we'd prefer to receive your fic on the assigned day, but as long as we receive it before the end of the event, we'll post it.

The March Writer of the Month will be selected from the writers who participate in this event.

Our goal at CFWC is to celebrate diversity. In that vein, we did our best to make sure characters that reflect that commitment.

Pairings were chosen at random, good old names in a hat method.

You will see that Open Heart and The Royal Romance have more characters represented than other series. That is because we receive the most submissions for these series by far. I. Cuddling for hours at a time

Your tender words pull him back each time he blindly steps closer to the edge, a never-ending spiral of self-destructive work tendencies awaiting him at the bottomless abyss. Your warm embrace shutting out the swarm of nagging voices meant to guilt him out of rest, to act as if the key to curing his sleep deprivation was to not acknowledge its existence, that fatigue symptoms could be erased by his own homemade placebo remedies.

As if your mere touch could turn anything to gold, and in his case, it did. 

It was what made the difference between an anxiety inducing catastrophic day, and a mere rough stepping stone he could easily manoeuvre around leaving his pace steady and undisturbed.

Reminding that it's okay to fail, to give something your best only for it to crumble to dust. It's a process of trial and error, it takes time and patience.

You don't get to choose how well things end up working out, it's not up to you nor is it your place.

And that's why for him, his ideal place in the world is in your arms, to simply let the rise and fall of your chest lull him into comfortable numbness. His features softening as the oxytocin levels rise, courtesy of your warm embrace, soft skin providing just the right pressure against his own.

Laying on your shared bed together, the soft breeze coming from the open windows moves the thin curtains. Moblit is Holding you close as one of his arms sneak around you, fingertips tracing shapes up and down your back. Face buried in your shoulder as yours rests on top of his head, stray hairs almost tickling your nose when you brush against them.

The passing of time does little to his cotton filled mind, occasionally attempting to pull you even more closer as if it's possible. Legs tangled with yours under the heavy blanket despite him hogging most of it.

Every now and then, when a certain amount of time passes, he'd look at you with half-closed eyes, a lidded look of satisfaction before murmuring in his sleepy voice.

"Do you want to get up?" And despite his sincere words and warm tone, his body makes no move to detach itself from your side.

Does he know the soothing effect of the circles he keeps drawing up your back? Or how much him talking with his lips still pressed against your neck makes you melt just a bit.

Whatever it is, Moblit seems confident in his ability to keep you snuggled against him, tucked underneath the warm blanket and fluffy pillows almost muffling your answer.

II. Visiting a music bar

Preferably something with soft yellowish lights, small enough spaces not meant for dancing but to create an intimate atmosphere akin to a music venue.

A jazz club, maybe a brewery.

Dimmed sunlight seeping through the thin curtained window, shadow traces of people smoking outside while making small talk, cushioned bar stools placed around the long bar with a mirrored wall behind it as several aged bottles and fancy glasses with signatures decorate the wooden shelves.

The quiet chatter of people blurring behind the mellow music the band is playing on the nearby stage, smooth movement with relaxed postures as if they've done this a hundred times before, and they probably have.

You're sitting in one of the booths near the window, a private spot where you're far enough for people not to notice yet close enough to still hear the music flowing.

The beat is slow, hypnotising even that the minutes blur together. 

Moblit giving you a smile as he comes back with your drinks, sitting opposite of you before handing you the cold glass, ice cubes clinking against each other as you raise the frosted rim to your lips, sugary sweet filling your senses, the cooling sensation of the drink slides down your throat.

There's a hint of citrus in it.

You've learned to trust Moblit's choice in drinks after being together for so long, he just knows what's going to taste good and which kind of drink you seem to need without having to say a word.

He seems comfortable here, even referring to the bartender by his name like they've been friends for a while, and maybe they have judging by the out-of-script welcoming he gave Moblit.

One conversation starts another and both of you find it so easy to talk to each other without boundaries or second thoughts, the smiles and occasional chuckles almost never leaving your features while nursing on your drinks.

He tells you stories from his work and about his co-workers. You find yourself entranced by his seemingly abusered line of work and the amount of chuckle worthy instances a single work day can offer.

That one time Hange knocked the liquid incense oils that someone Levi brought to freshen the place, well to their luck the oils fell directly on an open flame from the nearby scented candle which resulted in the fire spreading through the liquid alcohol between the broken glass.

And despite the feeling of dread, from seeing his files catch on fire this story brings him, the sound of your chocked laughter as you almost spilled your drink over your clothes, made it all worth it for him.

III. Antique shop

There was something to be said about Moblit's yearning for especially old looking things, trinkets, crumpled maps, tea stained letters and silvered mirrors.

You can't miss the gleam in his eyes as he opens the antique store door open for you the chime of the door bells following after. The smell of burning incense lingering in the air alongside the slow ticking of an old wooden clock.

The look on his face is of pure fascination, his eyes following the trail of the objects lined on the tables, from the old oil paintings with hand carved frames to the crystals reflecting sunlight next to the colourful stones. Observing as he carefully walks behind you through the narrow spaces between the tables and shelves. 

Pulling your attention whenever he finds a particular curious thing to show you as if it's an offering, it can range from music boxes with a really familiar melody that you can't quite remember or a beautifully shaped rose quartz stone that feels cool against your palm.

Whatever he brings, it often manages to intrigue you in some way. Moblit could always notice things other people would skip over otherwise, scanning the tables was like a small treasure hunt.

He'd always pick one or two leather journals, almost filled to the brim with ink scribbled pages and tea stained spots, personal diaries dating back to the 90's and if he's lucky they might edge towards the 80'. He likes to read them, live in someone else's shoes even for a split second, puzzle pieces falling in place as he figures out what kind of person the author was.

Of course sharing his discoveries with you while having lunch later, not out of pride nor to show off, but out of genuine respect to other people's lives and their dedication for leaving behind a piece of their soul.

IX. Roadtrip 

It's something he plans months ahead in advance, he genuinely wants to make the best out of the few weeks off both of you got to spend together. Making sure to plan a set of destinations, preparing snacks and food, packing your essentials and renting a big enough van.

A small getaway even, to completely leave everything behind and set out on a carefully planned adventure with the one he loves most, you.

Enjoying the fresh weather, the high sun and fast wind as both of you roll down the windows, fields of green and yellow meet you alongside the road the further away you move from the city.

Although be careful; the Moblit behind the wheel is a much much more different than the one you know, he's using all what remains of his self-restraint not to speed down the highway and swirl, the thought crosses his mind every hour or so and he's visibly agitated when you're forced to drive behind a particularly slow driver.

You might even have to remind him of the speed limit occasionally just so you don't end up with a pile of speeding tickets at the end of the trip.

It's like all his usually cautious and calculating demner evaporates into mist the second he touches the steering wheel, Temptations of just flooring it while high on adrenaline still linger in the back of his mind.

Beside that, the trip is a relatively calm one as you get to bask in all the new and different places you'll get to visit. Try new food and walk through different city streets, just the experience of something out of the usual is enough to satisfy Mobilt. Not to mention the fact he gets to experience it with you and just wander around without a purpose or care as long as you're together.

He'll definitely keep in mind what sort of things you seem to like, what intrigues you and the kind of reactions you show. He even started an album filled with mostly your pictures and the things you've seen.

It's most relaxing and filled with low stakes, nothing too fancy but nothing too boring either. Walking the thin line perfectly.

X. Visiting a museum

But not just any museum you see, one centred around natural history. Displaying everything from ancient fossils to full on skeleton displays of a 122 foot titanosaur, depictions of distant relatives of homosapiens and modern evolution trees of the current animals.

Moblit guiding you through the shiny tile floor and between the exhibits while holding your hand, eyes gleaming with passion as he goes on and on about each thing you glance at. Making all the trivial facts seem more fascinating than they have any right to be.

The squeaking sound of footsteps echoing on the too clean floors as four children pass you by, racing each other towards the iron suits of armour on display. They almost fall over the red ropes from leaning too close in, their caregiver seemingly busy talking with a security guard over the 'smoking not allowed' sign. 

You spare them a final glance before following Moblit through the corridor leading to the world history & old inventions section. Soon enough he steals your attention again as he begins talking about the first airplane prototype that you can't help but be enamoured by.

Despite there being a sign framed on the wall that sums up the jest of Moblit's lecture, he manages to make it not only less boring but add his own twist and uncommon known facts to it that it feels less of a history trip and of an interesting conversation.

He has so much knowledge that he's so eager not to only share but hear your own opinion and take on it, valuing your view no matter what amount of knowledge you have over the subject.

XI. Painting together

It's an idea that you offhandedly suggested after your museum visit, after all spending an hour in the Impressionism era gallery did leave an impression on you. And so the suggestion of checking out an art store for some acrylics and a couple brushes left your lips on the way home without a second thought.

Well little did you know that the small suggestion managed to latch into Moblit's brain for weeks after, making him spend his free time searching and gaining information on painting and how to start, he even managed to find some really good classes having a limited time course sale

That's how both of you end up in a guided painting class, seated next to each other with aprons on and a pallet to mix paint tubes in. You'll find out how much of a fast learner Moblit is, so much that most of the class he spends guiding your hand through the steps and offering his help whenever possible, although he still remembers not to be overbearing and still gives you space.

Both of you are in your own bubble from the class, being with him makes you feel easy and more reassured. He's like your very own comfort corner that you seek in every party, except that he can walk around with you and always looks out for you.

And whatever you end up putting on that canvas, Moblit will cherish more than any renaissance painting, will even insist on hanging it somewhere in the apartment.

(PowerRuff Part 7) { a new school and new beginning} Part 1

So here is another day in Pokey Oaks kindergarten but just a little thing that I have to tell you so you know what's going on after brick tried to burn down the villain headquarters he did get in some really big trouble and every day it just felt like he started getting angrier and angrier and since he's been so angry every time he's been coming to school he's been getting into a lot of fights and it's kind of starting to become a problem but that's about all I'm going to tell you for right now hope you enjoy this episode

Oh and another thing usually in Pokey Oaks kindergarten you can see from the last episodes that they're all wearing school uniforms but not today today is a special day it is where your normal clothes day

Oh wow I didn’t except anyone to ask about the next dt gen! Sure I’ll give ya the (short summary) personality, parents and full name c:Name: Madeline Amelia Duck- FeatherstoneParents: Dewey x AvaPersonality: Madeline is much like her father. She’s very active and loves thrills and desire for adventure (loves to travel). She doesn’t let her ‘weak’ state or medical issues to be an obstacle in her life. She tries to figure things out on her own. However she is very reckless and charges into something or does incredible stupid stunts, which her little brother has to help her butt. She’s very much a leader type of person, trying to be the one in charge. Sort of alpha in a sort of sense. This girl also is open minded and  enjoys experience others culture. A small lil thing is that Madeline loves cause some mischief  tends to get herself more into trouble than out. In a basic sense, like her father, Dewey.Name: Henry Hunter Duck-FeatherstoneParents: DeweyxAvaPersonality: To outsiders, he’s the lone wolf. The boy who isolates himself from everyone. A mystery so to speak. He doesn’t like to interact with everyone, taking walks in the dark. Hardly ever really shows much emotions.  However, he’s actually loving boy, protective of his older sister Madeline due to her being ill/weak and his cousin Lye. He only has a handful of friends. When he talks everyone listens. Only to selective few he will show more emotion and be more open. He does however complain a lot about his life. In simple terms think slightly like Levi from AoT but a little more open. Name: Lye DuckParents: Huey x Elena Personality: Insanely smart but horrible at speaking. This girl honestly could skip a few grades but didn’t due to her speech problem. She has a horrible stutter and cannot pronounce words. She very much the silent girl, acting as if she was mute. She’s very well behaved child but has the Duck family temper, instead of lashing out, she tends to bite and HARD! Lye also prefers to express herself through actions than words. Lye is an independent child as well. She tends to do things on her own.In simple terms slightly think of Matilda but who doesn’t speak and doesn’t cause as much mischief. Name: Melody SongubādoParents: April Duck x TorioPersonality: A well manner girl who tends to act like that in the public eye. Melody is one to be easily embarrassed by the simplest of things. However at home and with her closer friends she’s more open. She isn’t one to stay nice and clean. She rather be in the garage working on a car and fixing it up. She wants to be involved in projects not left behind. Name: Eliza GlomgoldParents: Bonnie x AlistairPersonality: Eliza is what some would consider the dream child. She’s very well behaved, gentle girl, a good older sister (willing to take care and protect her baby brother). She prefers to listen than to speak. However, she does keep to herself and never really speaking her opinion thus making her over looked or unheard most of the time. A girl in the background which at times gets her upset and feel almost lonely.Name: SolParents: Sirius Personality:  The alien boy is just your typical dorky nerd boy. He’s a complete fool when it comes to love, nearly tripping on his feet, making mistakes, stuttering. He’s very chill and I bet he could name you all the superheroes from who was first made to the newest one. Sol is just happy-go-lucky chill boy that can easily be your friend. Name: Eclipse De Spell-ChenParents: Ash x MatildaPersonality: Eclipse is smart little cookie who has a big interest in outerspace. A girl who you can find reading a book along with Lye or playing with her friends. She tends to keep her feelings to herself not, bottling up her emotions a good portion of the time which makes it hard for to know if she’s upset or not. Eclipse also good at hiding how she feels towards others, friendship or not.  As a teenager, she has no desire to date, not being interested in anyone.  and I thought I explained Matilda’s personality soooo here:Name: Matilda Crackshell-CabreraParent- er Creators: Gyro Gearlosse and Fenton Personality: This robot is extremely curious! Once getting emotions, let say curiosity shows the most along with energetic. She’s off wanting to do and try everything as she believes learning is best by experimenting and experience. With her being a robot also means she’s extremely smart but clueless (sometimes not understand jokes to well, getting confused at certain things.  Matilda is friendly, bubbly, happy go lucky, cheerful and social butterfly, willing to make friends with just about anyone.
