Secrets Of The Ring Road: Iceland’s Epic Road Trip
Accommodation is one of the biggest fixed costs travelers have and reducing that cost can lead to big savings! I’m sure many backpackers would sleep in a barn if it was the cheapest accommodation they could find!
No matter what your accommodation tastes may be, one thing everyone has in common is that no one wants to pay a fortune for it. In fact, one of the best ways to take a cheap holiday is to cut down on accommodation costs. Since you have to stay somewhere every night, reducing this expense can save you a lot of money off the total cost of your trip. Next to finding a cheap flight, finding free or inexpensive lodging will have the biggest impact on your budget.
Luckily, there are a number of ways travelers can find a decent place to stay without forking over their entire vacation fund:
Hospitality Exchanges
When I am looking for a Couchsurfing host, I use the following criteria:
There has to be a picture with the profile. This just shows me that it’s a real person.
The profile has to be filled out – It shows they are interested and involved. Most people aren’t going to spend the time to fill this out if they aren’t going to be comfortable with strangers in their home. If someone hasn’t bothered to fill out the profile, they probably don’t use the site and I simply move on.
They should have reviews – If other people have stayed with or have at least traveled with the host and had a good experience, you and your stuff will probably be fine. You might not get along with the host but at least you know they aren’t a creep. The more positive reviews, the better.
Verification helps – Couchsurfing offers different levels of verification. People can be verified by other travelers, with a mailing address, or with a credit card. Knowing that a person has been verified reduces the likelihood that they are going to be a crazy psycho killer. However, if someone isn’t verified but has a lot of reviews, that’s O.K. with me.
Hostels
Hostels are another option for budget travelers. In hostels, rooms are dormitory-style with all the facilities shared. Many people think of hostels as a “young thing” and are not interested in sleeping in a dormitory. Yet people do not often realize that many hostels offer small rooms, singles, and doubles designed for solo travelers or couples. I have met people in hostels in their 50s and 60s. The myth they are dirty, gross places to stay designed for young people is wrong. Many hostels offer more amenities than hotels, the new ones are really clean, and as young people expect more comfort, hostels are cleaning up their ways. These aren’t the hostels you see in movies.
Home Exchange
Another good way to get cheap accommodation is a home exchange program. This probably works best for older travelers who already own.

home. These programs have been around for a long time but are growing in popularity due to good marketing and word-of-mouth on the Internet. Home exchanges are just like they sound — for a set amount of time, you swap homes with a family from another country. It’s a great way to live cheaply abroad.
Most people don’t do this because they worry about security — but remember that the other family is trusting you with their home, too. Si
tes that facilitate home exchanges usually have various levels of verification and security similar to Couchsurfing. Families talk to each other over phone and e-mail, and there’s no commitment if you find that it’s not right for you. Most people who do this are like-minded, so the chances of something going wrong are slim. Moreover, the family sends a few people to check up on you when you arrive. You can get all the comforts of home (hotwater, laundry, etc.) while in another city, without paying for it.
For more information on home exchange, check out Home Exchange. This website was featured in the movie “The Holiday,” which did a lot to alleviate people’s fears over home exchange and bring this travel option into the mainstream. Some of the other home exchange websites are: Seniors Home Exchange, IHEN, and Home for Exchange.
Short Term Rentals
Similar to home exchanges, rentals allow people to stay in furnished apartments while traveling. These apartments can sometimes be cheaper than hotels and provide many more amenities. They are great if you plan to spend a week or more in one place. You’ll get all the comforts of home without spending a fortune.

US weekly jobless claims drop to a near 49-year low
US weekly jobless claims drop to a near 49-year low https://ift.tt/e6COon5 HAMBURG, Germany — A new chapter of the love affair between China and Germany is unfolding as the protectionist Trump administration targets both countries with tariffs. The president this week once again raised the prospect of introducing a new 25 percent tariff on imported cars, rattling nerves in Germany. which exports $20 billion worth of vehicles to the U.S. annually Calls for further expansion of political and economic cooperation between Beijing and Berlin resonated loudly at this week’s China Meets Europe summitin this northern German port city. [bs-quote quote=”If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman. ” style=”style-19″ align=”right” author_name=”Margaret Thatcher” author_job=”Former British Prime Minister” author_avatar=”https://ift.tt/FijJz3e] While China’s drive to strengthen old trade relations and seek new alliances in Europe has raised red flags in Washington, German Chancellor last year said Europeans “must really take our fate into our own hands. “In Germany, we are thinking about new strategic alliances because we have a feeling that we cannot trust our old alliances and that we need to adapt to a new world order,” said Henning Voepel, director of the Hamburg Institute of International Economics. China is already Germany’s top trading partner — with a volume of more than $204 billion in 2017, putting it ahead of the United States for the second consecutive year. But it is also waging a trade war with Washington. More than half of Berlin’s trade with Beijing is handled in the port city of Hamburg, which the Chinese respectfully call “Han Bao” or “Fortress of the Chinese” due to longstanding ties. Every third container in the port either arrives from China or is destined for it. But Wolfgang Ischinger, a former German ambassador to Washington who is now head of the Munich Security Conference, told this week’s summit that the relationship with China “represents one of the greatest historic opportunities” for both Germany and the 28-country European Union. Against the backdrop of China’s trade war with the U.S. and supplemented by projects including its modern-day revival of the old Silk Road known as the Belt and Road Initiative, China is investing in trade infrastructure in more than 60 countries worldwide. German cities like Hamburg and Duisberg are becoming major logistics hubs for Europe-bound trains from China. Hang Seng Index Tops 30,000 for First Time in a Decade
New Post has been published on https://thebiafrastar.com/bs-hang-seng-index-tops-30000-for-first-time-in-a-decade-2/
Hang Seng Index Tops 30,000 for First Time in a Decade
Global stocks were on track for weekly gains Friday as Chinese markets showed signs of stabilizing after a selloff, and data pointed to an acceleration in the eurozone economy. The Stoxx Europe 600 was up 0.4% following a mostly upbeat session in Asia, while futures pointed to a 0.2% opening advance for the S&P 500 after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Data released Friday largely pointed to a better-than-expected pickup in the eurozone economy this month. German government bond yields rose to 0.361% from 0.347% late Thursday and the euro edged up slightly to $1.1858 after the German Ifo index hit a record in November. The data suggested recent political uncertainty in Germany has so far had limited impact on business confidence, although most survey responses were submitted before political talks to form a governing coalition collapsed.
[bs-quote quote=”There is no business in America that would be prevented from taking results into account when making personnel decisions.” style=”style-5″ align=”right” author_name=”Michael Bloomberg” author_job=”CEO of Bloomberg L.P.” author_avatar=”https://thebiafrastar.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/newswatch-quote-avatar.jpg”]
When it comes to European political risks, “the make-or-break thing for markets is whether there’s a real risk of euro breakup,” said Valentijn van Nieuwenhuijzen, head of multiasset at NN Investment Partners. “If that’s not the case, the market doesn’t care too much.” The Ifo index followed better-than-expected eurozone purchasing managers’ surveys for November released Thursday, with the composite PMI unexpectedly hitting a 79-month high.
The eurozone economy has continued to pick up this year, echoing an acceleration in growth across the globe that has helped send stock markets to multiyear or record highs. “The question for 2018 is how to balance between the strong fundamental story and the strong investor consensus around it,” Mr. van Nieuwenhuijzen said.
In European stocks Friday, banks were the best performers as they tend to benefit from higher government bond yields. Spain’s IBEX 35 index and Italy’s FTSE MIB both rose 0.9%, and Germany’s DAX rose 0.8%, but the U.K.’s export-heavy FTSE 100 index lagged behind. Stocks in the U.S., Europe and Japan were all on track to end the week with modest gains, although trading volume is likely to be muted with many market participants away from their desks.
The focus next week is expected to shift toward the start of the Christmas holiday shopping season. Sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday are often taken as a harbinger of the overall holiday period for retailers, but it has become harder to discern trends since such sales now tend to span more than two days, according to strategists at Scotiabank. In Asian trading, the Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.1% after falling 2.3% Thursday in its biggest one-day drop in nearly a year.
Thursday’s decline was the biggest drop of the year for the Shanghai benchmark. Thursday’s decline was the biggest drop of the year for the Shanghai benchmark. PHOTO: LONG WEI/ZUMA PRESS The steep declines followed signs of Beijing’s determination to clamp down on market speculation and the country’s high debt levels. Weakness in China’s bond market also contributed to the downbeat tone as the 10-year yield recently hit three-year highs of just over 4%.
The sudden stock weakness wasn’t a cause for alarm, said Iris Pang, greater China economist at ING, adding that it could happen again in the short term as fund managers reposition and reallocate money between bonds and stocks. With ING anticipating strong Chinese economic growth through at least next year and companies there posting double-digit earnings jumps, Ms. Pang said the bank doesn’t see a top for Chinese stocks—which have lagged behind others in the region this year.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, which slid Thursday along with its mainland counterparts, rose 0.5% on Friday, ending the week 2.3% higher. Japan’s Nikkei finished the day up 0.1% and ended the week up 0.7% following a Thursday holiday.
Some would argue that this isn’t true energy independence, since we would still import oil in that situation. If that’s the standard, then we will never truly be independent, because there will always be economic reasons to import oil even if at the same time we export oil and finished products. For example, some Canadian crudes may always have a logistical advantage over U.S. crudes for certain refineries in the northern U.S.
But a long-term solution to U.S. energy dependence will also require significant demand-side reductions. A shift to electric vehicles, more fuel-efficient vehicles, and widespread adoption of ride-sharing could feasibly shave off several million BPD of demand over the next decade giving us, by every measure, the energy security that has driven U.S. energy policy for decades.
Until the oil-price collapse that began in 2014, the U.S. was on a trajectory to achieve zero net imports by 2019. At present, we are still about four million BPD away from that goal, but U.S. oil production is once again rising. Energy independence could be achieved in as little as four years if oil production returns to the growth trajectory of 2008 to 2014.
At the time of the 1973 OPEC oil embargo, the U.S. still produced about two-thirds of the oil we used, but our energy security weakened significantly in the decades after that, to the point where only one-third of our consumption was met by domestic oil.
The situation has changed dramatically over the past decade. The successful combination of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling ushered in the shale oil and gas boom. Meanwhile, higher oil prices helped curb demand. The combined effect dropped net U.S. imports of crude oil and finished products from a high of 12.5 million barrels per day in 2005 to less than 5 million BPD in 2015. The U.S. actually became a net exporter of finished products (e.g., diesel, gasoline, etc.) in 2011 for the first time since 1949.

PUBG Champs Crowned At First Stadium Event This Weekend
If you’re wondering what comes inside the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X retail package, then we have everything laid out in one place.
On the front of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are the 7-megapixel FaceTime cameras with f/2.2 aperture. These are the same specs as on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus and, as a result, selfies with the FaceTime camera didn’t look much different.
iPhone 8 and iPhone X Ship with Accessories
[bs-quote quote=”Everyone here has the sense that right now is one of those moments when we are influencing the future.” style=”style-6″ align=”left” author_name=”Steve Jobs ” author_job=”Apple co-founder” author_avatar=”http://bilgikurulum.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/readmag-quote-avatar.jpg”]
Now that the iPhone 8 and iPhone X have been announced, more official details regarding the headsets are starting to emerge. We know that the smartphones are the first from Apple that support fast charging, and now we also know what ships inside the box. If at this point you are feeling excited, then you might want to dial down a bit. Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone X ship with the same old accessories as before. There’s absolutely nothing new or extra from Apple’s end.
From the front, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus look the same as their predecessors. However, flip them over and you see the gorgeous Corning glass backs. It’s not Gorilla Glass, but a new glass chemistry made specifically for Apple. It has, according to Apple, a 50% deeper strengthening layer.
iPhone X Retail Package Contents

Lightning to USB Cable

Documentation
As soon as I got the blue image inside the circle on my existing phone, the iPhone 7 started transferring setup information to the new iPhone. This included things like Wi-Fi network information and my Apple ID, but not my password or the CSV number for my credit card. I asked Apple for a comprehensive list of what is and isn’t transferred in this process and am still waiting for their response.
The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus screens offer the same resolutions, 1,920 x 1,080 and 1,334 x 750 respectively. As they were with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, they’re great-looking screens, but are starting to seem a little dated in the face of Samsung’s Super AMOLED 2,960 x 1,440 Galaxy S8 displays.
As for noticeable, visual upgrades, the new iPhone display uses a tech Apple calls TrueTone, which uses ambient light to auto-adjust the color temperature of the display to make colors appear consistent across different lighting conditions. In fluorescent light, this made my screens slightly more orange.
If you were hoping for a pair of AirPods with the $999 iPhone X or a fast charger, then you’re absolutely out of luck. Both smartphones ship with the same accessories in the retail package. This includes a 3.5mm adapter, a Lightning cable (not USB-C), EarPods with Lightning and more. Things are topped off with the usual documentation and probably a SIM ejector tool thrown in for good measure.
Given Apple’s drastic migration to USB-C and Thunderbolt 3, it boggles our mind why the company is not shipping its mobile products with USB-C accessories. At least a cable and a charger that supports up to 15 watts of power is more than enough to appease users. But apparently, it seems as though ‘courage’ is not anywhere in sight when it comes to such things.
Nonetheless, the smartphones are the best that Apple have made to date. But will the greatness of these smartphones translate into healthy numbers? That remains to be seen. The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus will be up for pre-order in a few day’s time whereas the iPhone X will go up for pre-order next month. A long wait, but we’ll see if it’s a worth it one.

'We Do Not Tolerate Discrimination.' American Airlines CEO Responds to NAACP Warning for Black Passengers
Over the decades, smart toys have grown from a niche industry to a profitable business. According to UK-based analyst firm Juniper Research, annual smart toy sales across the globe are expected to grow to $11.3 billion by 2020. Today, toy stores not only have an array of classic board Games and stuffed animals but also internet connected devices, smart racing cars and drones, smart building blocks, and even robots that teach kids how to code.
We saw an opportunity to combine education and play with our Mi Robot Builder, a building and coding robotic toy, which allows kids to develop their own codes and build different models using creative thinking. Our Mi Robot Builder, recently made available on Amazon, one our newest additions to the smart toy market. The Robot Builder is manufactured by one of our Eco system Aiqi, companies which focuses on smart hardware and robotic products.
For kids who love robotics, this toy is indeed a treat. It comes with 978 bricks made from a mechanical transmission structure to ensure effective movement and action. It can be remotely controlled by the Mi Robot Builder app via Bluetooth. For kids who love robotics, this toy is indeed a treat. It comes with 978 bricks made from a mechanical transmission structure to ensure effective movement and action. It can be remo controlled by the Mi Robot Builder app via Blue tooth. By simply dragging and dropping complex command codes to the robot from the connect smart phone, kids can command the robot in three different control settings joystick, and route control.
The Mi Robot Builder can be compiled into different models including a robot, a dinosaur, and airplane. Each model can reach its self-balance, thanks to an intelligent CPU processor that is developed through a series of balanced algorithms at the heart of the product, allowing the robot to always stay upright and perform perfectly coordinated actions, whether at a standstill or on the move. The robot also comes with four USB type-C ports, which provide power to the robot and support scalable components up to 3 kg in weight.

We saw an opportunity to combine education and play with our Mi Robot Builder, a building and coding robotic.
The high-power motor, in addition to a built-in photoelectric encoder, allows the robot to have accurate speed and direction. As a result, if motor stalling occurs, a protection mode is automatically triggered to prevent the motor from overstraining. Mi Robot Builder inspires kids to be creative thinkers and builders. It is our hope that this early introduction to technology and problem-solving will allow kids to find a passion for science and technology at an early age, allowing them to realize that the power to create is within them.

Scuba Diving With Sharks (No Cage!) In South Africa

Air travel could be the last fortress of solitude.” style=”style-15″ align=”left” author_name=”Regina Brett” author_job=”American Author” author_avatar=”https://blog.cambiostore.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/travel-guides-quote-avatar.jpg”]

Firstly, you need to develop a strong constitution and mission. The reason why these are important is because while many businesses fail, some succeed and they require a lot of commitment and personal sacrifice. You have to ask yourself if you’re passionate about your mission enough to dedicate at least five years of your life to it. To teach our kids to be tough and with each blow life delivers to knock us down, we need to get up, dust ourselves off and pick up where we left off.
Secondly, learn how to hire and recruit properly. As someone who loves helping people, and at worst – a ‘rescuing type’ – this has stumped me along the way. I focused too much on serving people’s needs and wants – or hiring roles that I was comfortable with such as non-technical ones instead of more software engineers. The key is to identify the core Business needs and hire around these in a ‘jobs to be done’ framework.
[bs-quote quote=”Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals.” style=”style-19″ align=”left” author_name=”Jim Rohn” author_job=”American Entrepreneur” author_avatar=”https://kivirciksac.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/people-magazine-quote-avatar.png”]
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Finally, become great at both operating and growing your business. Operations is important because it keeps your business running well, and marketing is important because well, growth is everything in a startup. In the first few years, depending on the type of business you have, I’d say it should be a mix of 20% operations and 80% growth. That a business journey can also be a spiritual journey. I’m someone who is interested in personal transformation as well as professional development – and didn’t think I would get much of this through building businesses. I have wanted to spend a few months in India exploring myself and the world for as long as I can remember.
Thinking big and small: I can be thinking two years down the track while managing a project’s daily to do list. A dreamer and doer so to speak. This is super useful when starting businesses as it combines a visionary with someone who is practical and focused, so you can get achieve a fair bit with one just person.
I love sleep. I need sleep. It’s hard to talk about sleep when there may be parents reading this but I definitely love a solid eight hours. I usually get to bed by 11.30pm and wake around 7.30am. I then spend 30 minutes working from bed and replying to emails, which goes against every zen or productivity guru’s advice.
One thing I’ve been exploring lately is redefining what success actually means. Recently, in Silicon Valley, we’ve seen many unicorn startups grow to the point where their ethics, culture and community relations break. I want to see more examples of companies that are growing but also having a positive impact on the planet. I’m over the growth-at-all-costs way. Women CEOs and female founders are particularly well placed to lead this change. I also think it’s a great time for business, government and technology to come together and focus on solving real issues. If I could have any superpower, it would be the power of flight. But I can’t. So I have to fly in a plane like a regular human being and sadly, that costs money! But it doesn’t always have to burn a hole in your pocket. Here are five of the best ways to find cheap flights.
Devote 80% of your energy to the most important 20% of your activities. Remember that you can’t be everywhere, know everyone, and do everything. And avoid multitasking: it can cost you 40% efficiency. Remember the last time you had a brilliant idea at 2 a.m., but it sounded sort of ridiculous when you woke up the next morning? To reject popular thinking you must be OK with feeling uncomfortable. Also remember When you’re strategic, you reduce your margin of error. Simply having vague ideas of where you are and what you want to accomplish will get you no where. The keys to being strategic: 1. break the issue down, 2. ask why the problem needs to be solved, 3. identify the key issues, 4. review your resources, 5. put the right people in place. Henry Ford once said, “Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into smaller parts.” Try new routes to work, meet new people, read books you might even consider boring. The key is exposure to new ideas and ways of life.
