Book of the Week: The Villain has Something to Say
Author: Mo Chen Huan (莫晨欢)
Genre: cultivation, rebirth, transmigration, danmei
Rating: E
My Synopsis: If you’ve ever thought to yourself “man, I wish wwx really had killed all those annoying cultivators at Nightless City,” then boy do I have a book for you! A mix between 2ha’s Mo Ran and mdzs’s Wei Wuxian, main character Luo Jianqing has double the trauma and double the hate as the heavens’ literal least favorite child: the villain! Watch as he defies fate by being reborn, immediately scheming to kill the transmigrator protagonist (the heavens’ actual favorite child), and trying to uncover what went so wrong in his first life as to cause his shizun and secret crush, Xuan Lingzi, to sign off on his death.
My Actual Review: Ok, so usually I absolutely hate when I read reviews that compare random danmei novels to mxtx works as a selling point, but Luo Jianqing really does give Wei Wuxian vibes in how charismatic he is, his personality, and his behavior around Xuan Lingzi, once they get together. Before that, though, he gives a lot of Mo Ran 1.0 as he tries to deal with the hurt of betrayal in the face of his shizun who he thinks hates him but also would obviously not remember said betrayal since it, for all intents and purposes, never happened. Despite all this, though, Luo Jianqing still feels like a unique character, and the story develops into a unique plot where the characters are trying, for the sake of the fate of the world, to rebel against the will of the heavens that has decided that only one (1) person deserves the entirety of all the good fortune in their entire reality, past and present.
I’m adding some content warnings for: grooming (maybe???), incest (maybe???), attempted sexual assault, and some slight dubcon between the main couple due to an aphrodisiac that doesn’t go all the way. However—and I say this knowing full well that it probably won’t make sense if you haven’t read the book—the first two content warnings for this book don’t really have… content? For instance, yes there is incest in the book, but it consists of a character constantly mentioning it to make the main pairing feel better about their “incestuous” shizun-disciple relationship. When you meet said incestuous characters, nothing about their interactions connote a romantic or sexual relationship. The incest reference could be removed and nothing about the story would change. Same about the grooming: for most of the story, we go into detail about how Luo Jianqing was raised by another disciple—which is vital information about his relationship with said disciple—the main pairing don’t get together until he’s 50, and before that, their relationship is completely chaste as far as we’ve seen. But then the author throws a random curveball near the end about the LI being in love with him “from before” he was 17. There is no character conversation about this. It is referenced nowhere else ever again. It could be wholly removed from the story and nothing would change. Take from that what you will.
Pretty sure the translation I read—though complete—was an mtl. Everything was still understandable, and I was able to get through it while still enjoying the plot and characters, but the constant grammar mistakes were annoying.
Translation: incomplete but currently updating
#human promotes#the villain has something to say#and he sure af says it!#love this book to bits#i simply choose to remove that ‘I’ve always loved him’ bit from my brain#it does not exist#wholly unnecessary addition#it’s like the author woke up one day and realized the dynamics weren’t ‘toxic BL’ enough for them#wild af#otherwise a solid book tho#love going back and rereading the massacre arc#and imaging this is nightless city smh

Danmei Rec Meme!
*Thank you @endless-season for this tag. I know you tagged my main account, but I'll post my answer on my reading blog.
How long have you been into danmei, how did you get into it / what was your first danmei? I actually answered some of this in another post here. Officially I guess I been into danmei for 6 years.
Favourite danmei? Also in the previous post but I can list them here. Mo Dao Zu Shi by MXTX (The start of it all 😍) Scum Villain's Self Saving System by MXTX Cerulean Planet by Chu Tu Captivity by Tui How to Survive as a Villain by Yi Yi Yi Yi The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have To Be in True Love by Tui The Disabled Tyrant's Pet Palm Fish [Transmigration] by Xueshan fei hu Mistakenly Saving the Villain by Feng Yu Nie Kaleidoscope of Death by Xi Zixu Devil Venerable Wants to Know by Qing Se Yu Yi Married Thrice to a Salted Fish by Bikabi The Earth is Online by Mo Chen Huan Mist Unlimited by Wei Feng Ji Xu *Actually this is a new one
Favourite couples / characters? Couples: Of course MXTX couples included Yue Wuhuan x Song Qingshi (Mistakenly Saving the Villain) Jiang Xing x Lin Qingyu (Married Thrice to Salted Fish) Qin Jin x You Huo (Global Examination) Jianing x Jiayun (Cerulean Planet) Ye Qingling x Wu Zhi (Captivity) Xiu x Du Ze (The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have To Be in True Love) Wenren x Yin Hanjiang (Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know) Song Qinglan x Ji Yushi (Mist unlimited) Fu Wendou x Tang Mo (The Earth is Online) Character: Wei Wuxian (MDZS) Shen Qingqiu (svsss) Nero (After the Disabled Tyrant Differentiated into an Omega) *There is probably more that I’m not thinking about in the moment lol
Most recently read danmei? Heaven Official Blessing that I'm reading with a friend. How to Feed an Abyss! Part of a danmei club I joined on discord.* This is very cute so far. MC is baby. I'm also supposed to be reading Dragon Blood and Eternities Unsaid Till You Love Me for another danmei reading club I joined on discord.
Any favourite authors? Basic but I really like MXTX. Also Tui.
Any popular danmei you aren't particularly a fan of? Breaking Through the Clouds or PoYun. Kind of not a fan of cops story ACAB lol I can be easily convinced sometimes tho. I wasn't going to read The Husky and His White Cat Shizun, but friend is, so I decided to try it out.
Anything you've been meaning to read but still haven't? Little Mushroom, Golden Terrance... honestly I have a lot on my tbr 500+ more for the future lol
Choose a random (the weirder and baitier, the better) memorable scene/danmei to describe! My favorite scene I always remember is in How To Survive as Villain, I think it was the confession scene. The main character ask the male lead "Do you like me in a brother way or like to fuck me?"
Are there any particular genres/tropes you enjoy / don't enjoy? Aka - any useful info for people to send you recs ;D? I think I like a lot of tropes, but I can be picky too. (I do like wife chasing crematorium tho) Basically I would say just go for your recommendation. There's a small chance I've read it.
Any recommendations to give? Badly describe them in a few sentences. (Or however you like, your choice.) Cerulean Planet is slime tentacle alien bf. (please read tags and the reviews on novel update). The Disabled Tyrant's Pet Palm Fish [Transmigration] playing as a fish and having to seduce a human.
Tag with #danmeirecmeme for posterity!

Any light novels you’d recommend? :D
I've been reading a lot of Chinese danmei novels lately. It's difficult to recommend something because everyone has different tastes. But I can mention my favorites :D
Of the authors, I probably like Mu Su Li, Huaishan and T97 the most.
Mu Su Li:
• “Global Examination” is the story that actually fell into all my favorite plot tropes and is the first novel of the “unlimited flow” genre that I read (人*´∀`)。*゚+
• "First-class lawyer" - there's a bit of the "Ace Attorney" game vibe here and I like it (≧▽≦)
• "Black sky" - still in the process of reading, but again my favorite dynamic is enemies-lovers ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
--------
Huaishan:
• Po yun duology (“Breaking through the clouds” and “Swallow the sea”) - I love the detective genre and it’s good here ( ꈍᴗꈍ)
• "HuiTian" is also still in progress. There's a lot of drama, but also a lot of moments where I laughed until my stomach hurt (≧▽≦)
----------
T97 (TangJiuqing)
• Most people probably know about her novel “Bring In The Wine” (I’m just planning to read it), but I really like her sci-fi novels. These are two related stories "Time-limited hunt" and "Right on target" It's a little dark and dystopian, but with a happy ending. “Time-limited hunt” is generally the most unusual story for me, which also shocked me a little with the climax of the plot.
Another plus is that the main character of “Right on target” is literally a cat-boy =^w^=
----------------
Another favorite...
• "Dangerous personality" by Mu Gua Huang.
Also a detective and two main characters with unconventional thinking and investigative methods (which drives their policeman friend to a nervous tic :D). One of the main characters is severely mysophobic and has the ability of telepathy.
• "Little mushrooms" by Yi Si Shi Zhou.
There is a lot of tragedy and discussions about humanity here, but there is a happy ending. ಥ‿ಥ (Yeah, the main character is a mushroom that mutated into a human)
• "The Earth is online" by Mo Chen Huan.
Survival games with very tricky riddles, but at the same time with a degree of absurdity (where else will you see the main character fighting a huge talking turkey with a pink umbrella or a giant match???)
Very, very, veeeeery slow development of the relationship between the main characters, but filled with funny awkwardness (. ❛ᴗ ❛.)
• "Survivorship bias" by Zhichu.
Also still in process. Survival games, unusual characters, and an amnesia trope (ㆁωㆁ)
-------
Okay, I think I've mentioned all my favorites. Thanks for the question! (≧▽≦)

my favorite thing to do when there’s a new audio drama is to find out if I know it judging from the cover.
now look at this:
I tried to imagine every unlimited flow I have read and stopped when I saw that the author is mo chen huan. And I said, “ah, yeah I now have an idea.”
It is freaking Ghosts Know What I Experienced !!
I WAS HOLDING BACK MY LAUGHTER BECAUSE — Isn’t this art too exaggerated?? I totally thought at first that it would be unlimited flow or quick transmigration hhh. Joking aside, I like how OP both mc and ml are. Because they are really OP in the novel. Though I haven’t finished it yet because they scatter so much dog food everywhere.
I remember having a good laugh while reading the first 40+ chapters and there’s this really cute chapter where they went to a festival or something- ah, whatever. It’s been a long time since I last read it. All I know is that they are such a cute and sweet cp 👀

Reading Challenge 2020 (13/50):
The Earth is Online (地球上线) by Mo Chen Huan (莫晨欢)
Hey you! Tired of BL cultivation novels? How about a BL survival game novel instead?
The black towers. For six months, these intangible, mysterious structures floated about the earth, over cities, plains, mountains and oceans, thousands upon thousands of them. Governments studied them, but eventually the towers became just another part of life. But then, they become active, the earth is online, and the human race is pulled into the tower games. The reward? Survival. The risks? Fatal. Tang Mo and millions of other players must now use their smarts and strengths to survive.
If you’ve read or seen a battle royale/survival game story, you have a good idea of some of the tropes. Lots of massive death offscreen, lots of bloody death matches onscreen. Characters being wary of every other player, forming alliances, betrayals. Lots of twists. Lots of turns. Lots of hacked off limbs.
The tower’s game world is based mostly on Western fairy tales, but with a twist. The first boss Tang Mo meets is a little match girl who is also a pyromaniac. Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother does indeed have very big teeth. Santa’s eyesight is bad and will run you over with his sleigh if given the chance. That disconnect that is created when a beloved fictional character is also a violent, blood-thirsty monster? Nice.
It’s kind of weird that Mario is there, but not Hello Kitty.
The games the protagonist, Tang Mo, plays, and the reader joins in on, are heavy on deductive reasoning. I’m no good with mystery and deduction stories, but I like reading how they’re solved. And the games were varied and interesting.
I mentioned this is BL, but the romance is pushed way back to make room for the survival puzzle games. We’re introduced to the romantic lead early, but the burn is slloooooww. Tang Mo doesn’t even mention his sexuality until chapter 32!!! But when they do get around to flirting, oh man... 🥰🥰🥰.
#reading challenge#reading challenge 2020#the earth is online#mo chen huan#i'm in the middle of reading another story by this author#but the mtl is being dragged out to i don't know what length#spent a week reading this#i really liked it

Story Summary: It has been 6 months since the mysterious black towers appeared all over the world. No one knows what they are doing or why they are here, but they seem to do nothing and are untouchable as if they were holograms. Suddenly a childlike voice rings in everyone’s ears: “Ding Dong! The Earth is online!” From here on out, the tower attack games begin. Most of the world’s population disappears leaving only the “selected” few players. These players experience enhanced physical strength and endurance, along with unique to each player abilities to cope with the intense, yet childish attack games they are forced to play to survive.
Among these players is Tang Mo, a librarian with a unique ability to copy abilities from others and Fu Wenduo, a Major who accidently initiates the first-floor attack game, pulling in all players across China and earning everyone’s resentment. The two eventually form a team with one goal: beat all 7 floors of the tower and end the game.
WARNING SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT!
My Thoughts: There are very few books that I walk away from saying “that was perfect” and this is one of them. Absolutely perfect. The pacing is excellent, all characters, even game bosses (aka: bad guys) and secondary characters are super well developed without too much exposition. The story stands alone apart from any romance or relationships: My favorite type of novel is when you could completely drop any romance and it would still be an absolutely outstanding story, but at the same time the main characters completely need each other in every way. This book does that.
For some it may be a fault, but I loved how intellectually stimulating this book was. The puzzles in each game were well thought out and all clues to solve them were given to the reader as well as the MC. It took more brain power and concentration to read through certain parts and some chapters I even re-read to understand the puzzle, but I found that refreshing and stimulating.
My favorite part was the ending, which as I was reading, I just kept thinking “how are they going to wrap this up in so few chapters without it feeling rushed?” and somehow it is done so beautifully! I always think the “extra” chapters really are so important to the main book, and the last five extra chapters were essential. The first two are a “what if the black tower never happened” scenario, which serves to really bolster the secondary and minor characters as it shows what EVERYONE was doing before the earth went online. It also is really sweet because it shows the two main leads would have found each other no matter what. The last three chapters are the wrap up after the black tower disappears, which is always important to me. I love that Tang Mo is just like “Yep, new world, I’m still gonna be a librarian.”
Characters:
I just want to reiterate, I could do long, in depth bios on each character in this book, they are all so well fleshed out. But to keep this from being too long, I am only doing the main team’s characters.
Main Characters:
Tang Mo: Librarian by day, online bridge player by night, Tang Mo is your smarter than average out of the closet introvert. He is too the point and doesn’t like to sugar coat things. He harbors a secret love for his online bridge partner, Victor whom he has never met in real life and has somewhat resigned himself to being single. When the earth goes online he quickly adapts to the new world. His ability is called “Tang Mo Eats Without Paying Money” meaning he takes abilities without giving anything in return. He can gain others abilities by killing them or getting something from them (without paying for it)). Some of his main abilities are super intelligence (from Chen Shanshan), the ability to slow time, breath fire etc. To keep him from being super OP, these abilities all have limits such as how many times a day it can be used. Tang Mo is very practical and see’s things as they are very quickly. Before he gains enough abilities, he mostly relies on thinking his way out of the games. Tang Mo also has some very distinct props: A giant match that can burn anything and the flame won’t go out, a Mario hat that when he wears it and hits his head against walls stinky props fall out, an infinite probabilities pocket watch, and a pink parasol that is very strong and very sharp and he must use a magic girl transformation spell to use, and Momo egg which he can use to talk to Fu Wendou and save his games.
Fu Wendou: For the first part of the book is only a name of the person who pulled everyone into the tower attack game. After the first game, Tang Mo Receives a communication device called Momo, which is the counterpart to Fu Wendou’s prize for winning the first tower attack game as well, opening up communication between the two. Fu Wendou was originally a special ops military person with more access to information about the black towers. His goal is to find as much information he can on the black towers. He is also Tang Mo’s online bridge partner, Victor and a super simp. He figures out pretty quick who Tang Mo and basically decides his new goal is to simp after him and protect him. Part of his “protection” is beating the crap out of him every day to train him. His ability is “Genetic Reconstruction” meaning he can make any part of his body into a super hard impenetrable metal. This, combined with his military abilities make him probably one of the strongest players in the game. He has very few props that he uses. These are a super sharp knife that can probably cut anything, a chicken nest that can hold a lot of items, and the Momo egg communication device. He usually just turns his body into a weapon so rarely brings out his knife.
Side Characters:
Chen Shanshan: The 15-year-old daughter of a religious zealot who frequented Tang Mo’s library, Tang Mo Seeks out Chen Shanshan after her father disappears as his last request. Her ability is super intelligence, which she chooses to pass to Tang Mo early on in the game. To keep her from being too OP, this ability, which gets stronger with use and time makes it so she physically cannot get any stronger. She is the tactician and planner for her teams. She is often underestimated due to her age and weak status. She forms strong bonds with a select few amount of people, including her teacher, Tang Mo, and Mu Huixue. Tang Mo wants Chen Shanshan to be his partner from the beginning, but she refuses multiple times until she has grown on her own through the Attack organization.
Fu Wenxian: Fu Wendou’s nephew and a young boy around 12. Tang Mo meetd him in the game and tells Fu Wendou, prompting them to go find him. Because of Fu Wendou is hated by most people, Fu Wenxian adamantly denies any relation and often goes on tirades about how much he hates him. However, once they are reunited, he clings to the others thigh and is very glad to have his family again. He is a very smart boy (how else could he have survived in the games?), but compared to his team he is somewhat ignorant and he is often used as the literary device to explain the situation. His ability is a huge asset though, as he can make healing water out of his hands that can be stored.
Mu Huixue: Probably the best character in the whole damn book and she doesn’t come in to the very end. Her whole origin including her ability is basically a giant spoiler, but just know she is OP as a character can get. Her OPness makes her a target for others as the game has basically placed a reward on her head for killing her. She killed the previous strongest player to get the reward of resurrecting her sister, whom she later killed again. Because of this, she is extremely attached to Chen Shanshan who is around the same age as her sister, and enjoys laying in the moonlight (which her sister often did as well). She has a kind personality and loves children. Before the earth went online she was basically a freelance secret agent named Deer.
Alexander: Also does not appear until the end, but I love him. A bear of a man, He is the strongest player in Russia and comes to China to kill Mu Huixue in order to resurrect his daughter. However, after meeting her, and hearing her story he decides not to kill her and to become her partner. His wife and child both died tragically after the earth went online. His Mandarin is terrible, and it makes for a great source of comic relief. He has a strong sense of what needs to be done for the greater good. Not quite sure about his ability, but I assume it is related to his super strength.
Bai Ruoyao: Meets Tang Mo on when he is playing the 2nd floor of the tower and Tang Mo is on the 3rd. He has a baby face, a creepy smile and is extremely annoying. After betraying Tang Mo in the game, he is forced to cut off him own arm that Tang Mo lights on fire using his special match. After this he holds a grudge and basically follows Tang Mo around saying he is waiting for a chance to kill him. He flirts with Tant Mo A LOT and eventually they become teammates- kind of. His ability is to be able to see the “dead air” around people, which means he can see if they are heading towards death. This ability really does not add to his strength at all, but he is still one of the deadliest characters in the game. This is because he was also previously a freelance secret agent under the codename Fox. He was considered so annoying then as well so people in the industry called him Flea instead. Mu Huixue calls him Flea and he calls her Deer.
Relationship:
Tang Mo and Fu Wendou: Main romantic couple of the novel. Fu Wendou is a simp and Tang Mo is painfully practical and it makes for a hilarious and cute romance. Both were in love with each other before the earth went online as online bridge partners. I see a lot of novels were the characters have a “tactic understanding” between them, but these two have the foundation of playing bridge together to explain why they have this. This novel may be a VERY slow burn when it comes to romance (I think Fu Wendou doesn’t make a physical appearance until around chapter 40, and their first kiss is chapter 210), but I think that’s what I really liked about it. When you’re playing death games constantly, who has time to confess?
Final Thoughts: This book is so damn good, just go read it. Also, please more fanart of this one, it is currently so very lacking.

DANMEI RECS SERIES
► The Earth is Online by Mo Chen Huan
Six months ago, tens of thousands of black phantom towers appeared all over the world, floating above the cities. Chemists, physicists, religious people… all of them could do nothing. Six months later, people became used to the towers and no longer paid them attention. One day, Tang Mo saw a flying insect crash into it instead of going through it. The next day, a sharp and clear child-like voice issued an announcement to all humans. “Ding dong! November 15th, 2017. The earth is online.” The black tower’s three iron-clad rules: 1. Everything is explained by the black tower. 2. 6 o’clock to 18 o’clock is the game time. 3. All players, please strive to attack the tower.
The Earth is Online is a weird book to describe: it has super powers, it has psychological elements, it has some gore, it’s apocalyptic but not yet, it has game elements. It’s very non sensical in some points. It’s a lot of things and all of them well executed. Mo Chen Huan created a thrilling story where the planet’s existence is at stake and every new game instance is harder than the previous.
To its core TEIO is a book where Tang Mo, our protagonist and local librarian, and the rest of humanity has to compete in games in order to survive, defeating the Black Tower’s challenges with their lives on the line while uncovering the mystery of the black tower itself.
Have you ever wanted to see Super Mario and Pinocchio commit war crimes? You can in this book!
245 chapters are a lot (hello TGCF gang!) but the book is divided in arcs that can be easily read and digested. Also the number of main characters is not that high, so it doesn’t get hard to follow. And the puzzles are always explained in the end.
As for the danmei aspect TEIO has a wonderful slow burn romance where Tang Mo and Fu Wenduo learn to trust each other in an apocalyptic world where it’s really kill or be killed and you don’t know when you may face a friend in a game and it’s either you or them. (Okay maybe it’s just Tang Mo that needs to learn it.)
I highly recommend this book, it’s a long reading experience but it’s never boring and the characters are fantastic. The various arcs are cool, even if at some point you stop trying to figure out what’s going on because you know the author will explain the solution in the story anyway.

oh yes! to read the entire mxtx books is within my plan! but im still holding back because well, i need to prepare my heart haha. also, please do! i would love to read your recommendations! also, did you see tgcf update? they were truly beautiful!
Yes, I did! What a gift from dianxia! I mean, just look at this two...
For recs, these are the ones that I really, really like. There are more that I didn't add since the list will be too long. Anyway, I'll start with completed eng translations:
The Earth is Online
The premise is kinda like a survival game (this genre is called unlimited/infinity flow i just don't know how to explain it but they kinda play games in order to survive) so there's lot of action and horror/gore here. The romance is more of a subplot but the MC and ML's dynamic are just so good. They're a power couple like wangxian.
Seizing Dreams
To have the power to invade dreams is already amazing but using it to save people from their own demons just added more depth to it. That's what SD is all about. I love, love the MC and ML so much and even the side charas plus the plot is just mindblowing. I guess it's to be expected since it's by Fei Tian Ye Xiang (please try his works, it's all good!).
The Legendary Master’s Wife
This is one of the earliest danmei I read (yeah, i read this even before modao) and it's very long (700+ chapters). But this one's xianxia/cultivation so I guess you'll be more familiar with it.
God Level Summoner
This one's an e-sports/gaming novel. If you know The King's Avatar then GLS is like that except it's BL. I mean aside from the main cp there are lots of side cp/ships here. Also, this is the second of a three part series but you don't need to read the first or third book to understand since all three have different main charas (even games).
Little Mushroom
Okay, not gonna lie but this is probably the most...hmm, not exactly sad but depressing (??) book I've read. I can't explain it but the overall tone of the novel just gives you such desolate and hopeless feeling that it leaves you wondering if it'll really have a happy ending. But it is HE. I repeat, it's HE! Despite what I said, please do read it, it's really good!
Rebirth of a Supermodel
Another novel from one of my fav authors, Mo Chen Huan (The Earth is Online)! This is one a transmigration novel set in a modern (but parallel world) china specifically in the entertainment industry. MC is a model and ML is a designer. Anyway, this one is just a light read but I really like it.
Sha Po Lang
A work by Priest, a very popular author. This one is set in a ancient china but with steampunk! The plot is just amazing (except when some political stuff just fly over my head because i'm a dumdumb lol). Anyway, it's going to have a live action drama that will air next year (i think?). There's also an audio drama. (eng sub link: here)
Very Happy
A showbiz/entertainment novel. And just like it's title it's just light and full of fluff. Sometimes, it's nice to just read something fun and sweet.
Golden Stage
An enemies (?) to lovers trope set in ancient china. You would think it's slowburn but no, after getting married the cp just quickly settled in domestic bliss. But well, political intrigues just had to break their honeymoon (curse you emperor). At least, they'll have their HE after all that.
The Film Emperor’s Daily Live Cooking Broadcast
Okay, I may have rec this because of the food (and the accompanying pics doesn't help). It's a light read but it'll sure make you hungry.
The Seeing Eye Dog
One of the few novels that made me all teary-eyed. Halfway through the novel it's just angst with a little bit of sweet scattered in between. I never had this urge to root and hug a character so much. The MC deserves the best!
Guide on How to Fail at Online Dating
Another gaming novel though it's more casual and full of fluff & comedic misunderstandings aside from the short angst near the end but overall funny and romantic.
Next are with ongoing translations (also, i just noticed that i babbled too much so i'll keep it short):
The Husky and His White Cat Shizun - aka 2ha. Xianxia. Lots of drama (like i cried multiple times). Audio Drama with subs: here. Also, live action drama in production.
Card Room - Unlimited flow. Long w/ 500+ raw chapters (& still ongoing). Slow burn romance.
I’m Using the Interstellar Live Broadcast to Raise Cubs - Fluff. Cubs. Food. Slice of life. It's a feel good and warm novel.
Death Progress Bar - Modern. Family drama. Mafia. Transmigration. Cute system. Action pack.
Strong Offense and Defense - Modern. Basketball. (hello, knb fan here ofc imma rec this)
Superstar Aspirations - By Mo Chen Huan. Transmigration. Entertainment. Both MC and ML are actors.
You’ve Got Mail: A Cautionary Tale - Smut.Historical. Older MC, younger ML. Did I mention Smut?
Surprise! The Supposed Talent Show Was Actually–?! - Interstellar. A mix of survival games (except no deaths, yay) & reality show. Bunny (to strong) MC. OP ML.
The King’s Return - Same series/universe as God Level Summoner. Third book. Main charas are disciples of both MC and ML of second book.
Don’t Pick Up Boyfriends From the Trash Bin - System. Quick transmigration/world hopping. Face slapping scums is fun and cathartic.
Dinghai Fusheng Records - By Fei Tian. Historical. Fantasy. Action. Adventure. Manhua starts at the end of July.
Those Years In Quest Of Honour Mine - Historical. Political intrigue. Shameless MC.
Silent Reading - By Priest. Mystery. Psychological. Upcoming donghua airing this year.
Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil - A popular novel. Quick transmigration. System. OP MC & ML.
Heroic Death System - Quick transmigration. The arcs end in BE but there are redo arcs for it so overall HE.
Laws of the Other World - Alternate world. Sci-fi. Action. Adventure. Power couple MC & ML.
Deep in the Act - Modern. Main charas are actors. Pyschological. Smut.
Epiphanies of Rebirth - Modern. Rebirth. Slow burn.
Criminal Psychology - Modern. Mystery. Psychological. Pyschologist MC. Police officer ML. Slow burn.
To Rule in a Turbulent World - By Fei Tian. Historical. War. Political intrigue. Smut.
New Times, New Hell - Ghosts. Modern. Romcom. Genius IT programmer MC. Ghost king ML.
King of Classical Music - By Mo Chen Huan. Modern. Transmigration. Violinist. Genius pianist ML.
Beloved Marriage in High Society - Rebirth. Modern. Drama.
I'm still currently reading it but I'll add this, too: Imperfections/Can Ci Pin - By Priest. Sci-fi. Mecha. Action. Upcoming donghua soon.

15 books on my to-read list for 2020! (my full list is more than twice this, I’m trying to seem reasonable) (I would post my full list but there’s some really trashy shit on there and I like to seem like I have good taste)
1. Alcestis by Katherine Beutner (on my list largely by merit of being one of only two wlw ancient Greek novels I’ve yet found other than Sappho fictionalizations)
2. The Ascent to Godhood by JY Yang (newest book in the Tensorate series, aka one of my favourite reads of 2019. It’s been at the top of my list since July but I haven’t managed to get my hands on it yet ;; )
3. Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater (new spin-off of The Raven Cycle)
4. Docile by K.M. Szpara (not even out yet but the publisher has been doing a REALLY good job of selling me on it)
5. Dogra Magra by Yumeno Kyuusaku (if you think I wanna read this because of how much it’s referenced in Hashihime of the Old Book Town, you are correct.)
6. The Earth is Online by Mo Chen Huan (my planned long-read of 2020 at 245 chapters)
7. Fire from Heaven by Mary Renault (the first of the author’s Alexander the Great series that’s been compared to The Song of Achilles, which is all the convincing I need)
8. Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (goth sci-fi lesbians, from what I’ve heard? Supposed to be fantastic and sounds very much like my kind of shit)
9. Imperium: A Novel of Ancient Rome by Robert Harris (I’m taking a second Roman literature course next semester so this is 100% influenced by that)
10. King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo (placeholder for any of her books really, I’ve been meaning to read more by her since I finished the Six of Crows duology)
11. An Oresteia translated by Anne Carson (the source of the “Not to me. Not if it’s you.” meme and also I like Euripides)
12. SAYE by Wu Zhe (highly recommended by my cnovel dealer. I’ve read and enjoyed the first 14 chapters already, but I plan to mtl the rest soon)
13. Silent Reading by priest (bumped up from lower on my list due to the fact that it’s getting a show soon)
14. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern (new book by the author of The Night Circus, which was one of my favourite novels in high school. Very excited for this one)
15. Tell It to the Bees by Fiona Shaw (the author herself told me to read it after I tweeted my disappointment with the movie, so now I’m obligated :x)

Okay, so our protagonists finally know that the monsters are eating humans, BUT THEY DON'T FEEL ANY URGENCY AT ALL!!!
I FUCKING HATE THIS
It wasn't supposed to be in the real world in the first place, but you motherfuckers messed up and now innocents are being killed, but to you it's still just some kind of fun superpower game
Fucking shit author. God, if Mo Chen Huan wrote this, it would be so much better
The MC and ML really just inadvertently released the monsters from MC's domain into the real world, and now it's parasitizing humans and eating other humans and--
Fuck, the author's writing has been meh so far, but the plot compels me so I'm sticking around, but if I don't see at least one of these two feeling the slightest guilt, I'm gonna scream
You motherfuckers released a monster into the wild, yet you're still so chill??? You think it's still all fun and games with your new superpowers???
Author-sama, I am hooked. But pleeeease write better already

GUESS WHO FELL IN LOVE WITH HEAVEN OFFICIAL’S BLESSINGS!! actually all of mxtx novels, but tgcf is my favorite
these are some quick doodles I did after reading the first book~ back when I lived in blissful ignorance, before book 2 and 4 destroyed me :´)))
lately I’ve been reading lots of danmei cnovels, and mxtx, priest, huaishang, meatbun, meng xi shi and mo chen huan have become my favorite authors. wish I could do fanart of all their works QAQ but so far I’ve only drawn tgcf and few EIO, 2ha and thousand autumns doodles, I’ve tried doing something for QLTT and SPL too…
