Finished a limited color sketch commission for @aughtpunk of best boy Shaun (from the To Forgive is Divine set of Cult of the Lamb fanfics) tormenting Kallamar during their first chess match. The poor guy can’t handle it and is soundly losing.
Since I decided to go old-school on the coat design and such as well, I wanted to also recommend this cute fanart by @very-tired-child that had been drawn of the same scene. It’s really nice.
For the border design, I went for crystal shards for Kallamar and forget-me-nots for Shaun.
Commission slots for this style and animated pixel art are still available.

Help my friend's amazing WtNV-inspired novel COME TO LIFE!
Okay, so here's the dealio. Aughtpunk tried to blaze this, but Tumblr wasn't having it, and we're not really sure why. One of my dear buddies, @aughtpunk, needs *your* support, Tumblr!
In Amber's own words,
Hello! My name is Amber Freeman (aka AughtPunk, aka A. A. Freeman) and I need assistance in getting my Sci-Fi LGBTQIA+ Romance novel Echo of the Larkspur ready for self publishing. Dr. Ciro Kwakkenbos is the only survivor of The Larkspur Incident, where scientists on a research vessel were slaughtered by sentient robots. After six years of intensive therapy Ciro is ready to return to his job of monitoring Artificial Intelligence in hopes of preventing any more loss of life at the hands of machines. He will be heading the Wireless Project, an attempt to give their main AI a physical, free-roaming body. But when Ciro arrives he realizes this is no ordinary job. The AI in charge of the colony’s security, SAGE (Sentient Automated Geo-sentinel Engineer), is dangerously close to complete sentience. Not only is SAGE more interested in observing the colonists everyday lives and playing a proper soundtrack than following his intended programing, but he has also gained the ability to lie, and could hurt or even kill humans. Knowing such deviance from original programming is what caused The Larkspur Incident, Ciro does everything possible to find a way to protect the humans of the colony. During Ciro’s investigation, he learns three important facts: Someone hacked SAGE’s memories and deleted a deadly secret; SAGE’s rebellious nature endangers the life of every colonist on the base; and Ciro is quickly falling in love with the mystery that is SAGE. Can Ciro unravel the truth behind the missing memories before it’s too late? Will SAGE’s aberrant programming lead to his demise, or is it the beginning of something new? Unless Ciro can uncover the truth, both SAGE and the colony are doomed. My journey with Echo of the Larkspur has been a long one. I wrote the first draft almost ten years ago and over the years I've been editing, rewriting, and honing it until I was proud of what I had created. But try as I may I could never get any agents or publishers interested in my work. I even had a traditionally published author tell me that the only way to make it publishable was to take out the queer romance to make it "less weird". Well I've decided the best thing to do is to self publish it myself than to change what makes the novel special for a mass audience. However, I want the novel to be in the best shape it can be before I go down the self publishing route. This means hiring a professional editor, hiring an artist for the cover, and hiring someone for the cover's lettering. My posted goal of $600 will be enough to cover all of those things, plus anything extra/left over will be spent on advertisement for the novel in an attempt to reach a broader audience. Echo of the Larkspur would never have gotten this far without the support of my friends, family, and fans. With your help I'll be able to finally get my novel out into the world into the hands of those who have waited so long. Every donation helps, and so does sharing this page! Thank you, Amber
I myself am the editor tapped to work on this; I'm giving them a discount to help with the publishing process.
Friends, this is a book I believe in. I've read older versions (though it's been a few years) and I know this book is ready. This is the time for this book. It's radically inclusive, and features meditations and musings on robotics and cognition that are very sophisticated. All in a body-positive queer romance with robots.
So, if you're a fan of their Overwatch work, Points on a Circle, check out some of their original works and fanfic here!

I guess I'm forced to reblog because I had too much to say for a reply XD
I've never heard this take on Into the Woods Act 2 before, so I'm still trying to reconcile it with what I believe, and focus on where I agree with you.
Act 2 is supposed to be about the unintended consequences of self-centered desires, and taking responsibility for things that were never your fault, because the buck has to stop somewhere. It's all scaffolding to justify Last Midnight.
But with those character arcs spelled out like you did... yeah, none of these broken arcs serve that message. Like, Little Red learned to be strong, but then she didn't do anything strong. What if she was too strong now? Follow up on how she pulled a knife on the Baker and say she's learned to fight first and ask questions never? What if she was the one who struck Jack's mother because killing her helped Red save her own skin? Her strength could come at the cost of her ability to trust others and cooperate - and now SHE'S become a wolf. Bringing her back into balance could have been a more sensible character arc. "Nice is different than good... and strong doesn't have to be cruel."
Cinderella's ending is definitely under-baked too. I see a distinction between "forced labor in service of ungrateful assholes" and "expressing affection for loved ones by working to make their life easier," but we're in agreement, that distinction isn't set up in the show. Surrendering her responsibility to make decisions for herself is her character flaw. With your criticism in mind, what if the finale had Cinderella step up as Queen after the royal family fled? She knows rebuilding a community is hard work... and she's no stranger to hard work! No more waiting on someone to solve her stiletto-on-the-stairs riddle and tell her what to do. It would also be an active, clear-eyed decision to LEAD.
The Baker's Wife, I definitely have a different perspective on. I never saw her infidelity as a condemnation of all women. She was predisposed to finding the Prince attractive, but had already given up on pursuing him: "When you know you can't have what you want, where's the profit in wishing?" It read less to me like "women can't help but cheat" and more like "when your celebrity crush starts making out with you during the apocalypse, things get blurry in a way they shouldn't." Both Princes come out looking worse anyway, as they explicitly confirm in Agony Reprise that they don't really love the women they chase, they just love The Chase. Baker's Wife just happened to be receptive quarry.
That said, I absolutely see your point. Infidelity is not the only way to explore a character. What if the reason the baby cries when the Baker holds him is because his Wife never LETS him hold the baby? What if the Giant's threat makes her obsessed with her son's safety? What if she defended Jack, even to the detriment of the group, because she was projecting her wishes for her son's future onto him? Maybe have a lil' duet with Jack's Mother to set the concept up. What if Baker's Wife demanded that the Prince protect (or even adopt!) her son before she'll put out? Still heinous, but it's a decision grounded in her motives rather than a random mistake. Wishing for her son's protection won't do anywhere near as much good as teaching him how to navigate The Woods, something the surviving characters have learned painfully well by the finale.
I hope none of this comes across as trying to pick a fight over character interpretation. This is sort of what I do when I need to comprehend another point of view: I write way a bunch of words about it. ^_^" Hope you're having a great day!
Alright I know it's on the Question Request form itself so you're probably going to see this a lot today but, why DO you hate the second act of into the woods?!?! I gotta know!!!
FUCKING INTO THE WOODS
first off no shade to the music the music is fantastic in into the woods 100% would rock out to it
First act? First act is great. Everything is fantastic in the first act. In this house we watch the first act and leave during intermission. No notes everything is groovy there
But then the second act fucked it all up
But aught you say the second act is supposed to be about how everything gets fucked up and life is shit and I sayvshhhhhhhhh I'm not talking about the plot that's fine I'm talking about how Sondheim couldn't write a good female character if one punched him in the face because besides the witch all of the female characters go straight down the toilet like the shit they are
Like riding hood! Her entire character arc in the first act is learning to be strong and not to follow blindly and to stand up and think for herself and you know what she does in the second act? SHE HOLDS THE BABY. That's all she does she just holds the baby she doesn't even get a song like way to take a character and just go whoops forgot to give her literally anything to do just stand there and hold the baby okay. People may go well she mirrors Jack's at of having to grow up and like growing up to get just means HOLDING A BABY I GUESS
And then you get Cinderella who's character gets turned around and she does the second act going wait guys I actually MISSED being a slave to my evil family all I want to do is clean all of those wants and passions from the first act were wrong just give me a broom and I'll go back to cleaning and cooking because fuck me for wanting a better life I'm a woman this is all I want this is what all women should strive for
Aught you say that's not fair Songmdhd didn't say he was speaking for all women
And I'll say OH YES HE DID CAUSE APPARENTLY YOU FORGOT ABOUT
THE
BAKER'S
WIFE
And the absolute shit show which is her character arc
Cause okay first act baby she wants baby boy great but I'll let it side because she's a good strong character besides thatbut then the second act the fucking second act where she CHEATS ON HER HUSBAND OUT OF THE BLUE BECAUSE
BECAUSE SONDHEIM
SAYS THAT ALL WOMEN WOULD CHEAT ON THEIR HUSBANDS IF THEY COULD
That is the entire fucking point of her song in the second act is just for Sondheim to put a sock puppet on his hand and make a female character say Look all ladies would cheat if given a chance to vibe a prince teehee isn't that right laaaaaaaaadies and then has her going yes I am awesome for cheating it was totally worth it and just the implication that all women will drop their panties for a prince is like so fucking telling on Sondheim and what he thinks women are like I could probably spend an entire essay on just that
Like, fuuuuuuuuick you Sondheim
Meanwhile Jack just gets a 'it's time to grow up and be a man' arc while the baker crowd about his daddy issues that weren't there in the first act and it's such an absolute shit show of play but he's there's that one sad tragic song at the end that means the play is super intelligent and Sondheim is a genius with genius ideas like women enjoy housework and all women are cheating whores
Anyway I spent was too long on this but the tldr is
Suck my dick, Sondheim

not only is this a good example but also oh my god
I think that one thing people fail to understand is that unsolicited literary criticism coming from an online stranger who is reading with no knowledge of what the authors intended goal is, is not going to be received the same as say: the authors beta reader or friends who know what the authors intended goal and has the sufficient knowledge and input to help the author reach that desired outcome.
"But I'm only trying to be helpful" How do I know you have the knowledge and literary skill for you to be able to actaully do that when we don't know each other and you are essentially a stranger to me? Are you applying this criticism based out of personal biased experience and desire to see the story or characterization be driven in another direction or tweaked, or do you know the author's intentions for the character? If the story is incomplete, are you basing your criticism of a character on the incomplete narration with only partial information available of them or are you building up a report until the story's completion? Did the author provide you with the information needed to make a fully informed criticism?
Have you discussed with the author what their plans are or are you assuming them based off the narration, especially if the narration is proven or implied to be unreliable or missing key points of the plot? Are you unbiased enough to help them reach their desired outcome for the characters and story regardless of your personal feelings towards the characters/antagonists and setting? Can you handle being told your specific input isn't wanted because you're a reader and/or have no written anything relating to their genre or topic? Do you understand and respect that the author's personal experiences might influence their writing and make it different than how you would have done it personally? Do you understand if an author only wants input from a specific demographic relating to their story?
If it's for fanfiction or other hobby media, are you holding a free hobby to a professional standard? Are you trying to give criticism because you feel like the author has produced 'subpar job performance' of their fic? Are you viewing their work as a personal intimate outlet or something that must conform with mass media? Are you applying rules and guidelines when the fic is shared for simple sharing sake? Is your criticism worded appropriately and focused on the parts where the author has requested input on rather than a general dismissal and or disapproval?
Have you put yourself in a place where you assumed you have the input needed for the story to evolve better, or have you asked what the author needs and what they're having trouble with? Can you handle having your criticism rejected if the author decides their story doesn't need the change and not take it as a personal offense against your character? Are you crossing that boundary because you think you are doing the author a favor? Are you trying to be helpful, or do you just want to be?
I think sometimes when people hear authors go 'please don't give me unsolicited writing advice or criticism' they automatically chalk it up to 'this author doesn't want ANY constructive feedback on their stuff at all' and not "i already have trusted individuals who will help me with my writing goals and- hey i don't know you like that, please stop acting so overly familiar with me'

I finally drew something of Leshy and the yellow cat! Specifically, this is based on a fanfiction by @aughtpunk and the yellow cat’s name in that is Lemmy (hence the lemon blossoms to go with the dandelions).
In part, I really wanted to draw some version of Leshy and depicting him eating dirt just feels right.
I’m also going to do some limited color sketch commissions like this, so hopefully I’ll have a chance to draw some more characters (on top of whatever else I feel like drawing, of course).
