Nervous was an understatement to what Piper was feeling. She felt like throwing up. There was a lump in her throat that wouldn’t go away no matter how hard she tried to swallow, a pit in her stomach, her chest tightening with emptiness as she chewed the skin on the inside of her cheek.

She was young, she had crushes before but none made her feel like this. Anxiety wasn’t a friend she happened to be close with and she didn’t want to be. Piper inhaled deeply, wringing her fingers together as she shut her eyes and tried to calm herself. She was making it a much bigger deal than it was, her mind constantly running with wild thoughts and preparing for the impending doom that would never come.

“By the gods, get yourself together, Piper,” she groaned as she dropped her head in her hands.

She didn’t realize when it happened. Perhaps it was because Piper saw her everywhere that her heart skipped a beat or how she would completely drop what she would be doing to intently listen in on a conversation where her name came up as the topic.

“Yeah, that’s called a crush, Mclean. Haven’t you had one?” Clarisse had told her once when the daughter of Aphrodite ran into the Ares cabin one day looking for the warrior.

“That’s the thing,” Piper had complained helplessly, throwing her hands up before collapsing onto the bed, face first. Her voice was muffled as she said, “I never really had one. Not to mention my first relationship was based on fake memories.”

It was only until she had felt the bed dip beside her that she lifted her face from the blankets to look at Clarisse with furrowed brows, worry etched onto her features and a frown curling her lips. Clarisse had sighed, feeling the familiarity of this moment grasp at her heart. “Alright. It’s obviously going to be scary at first, you know? But if you like her, you should tell her. The worst thing that could happen is that she doesn’t like you back and then you can move on.”

Piper lifted her head from her hands, her eyes spotting Reyna across the clearing with Nico and Jason. “Ares give me courage,” she mumbled to herself once she saw the Praetor make her way over.

Piper stood up, leaning against the table with one hand to ground herself as her heart began to pound against her rib cage, blood ringing in her ears and she took a deep breath. She felt a rush of calmness surge through her, the slowing of her heart and the ringing subsiding into nothing until the ambience of camp filled her ears. Reyna, a few feet away and face to face with her, was as mesmerizing as ever.

“Hi,” Piper said with a small smile.

“Hi, Piper,” Reyna returned with a smile of her own, a small tilt of her head as her eyes twinkled in the sunlight casting over her face.

Piper tapped the table once, then twice before she straightened her posture and took a step closer. She swallowed thickly and she asked, “You don’t happen to be, um, busy this weekend, do you?”

“Not at all. Why?”

Now or never. “I…” Piper exhaled slowly and met Reyna’s eyes. “Have you ever been to an amusement park? There’s one that’ll be opening tomorrow and I wanted to know if you would like to come with me.”

Reyna was silent for several moments, her ever stoic expression never unchanging until the strangest thing. She smiled, her shoulders visibly relaxing as she ducked her head almost in a manner like she was caught off guard. She has dimples, Piper thought.

The daughter of Bellona cleared her throat and looked at Piper, then she nodded. “This amusement park. Will there be funnel cakes and rollarcoasters?”

“There’s even claw machines that steal your money because it’s a scam.”

Reyna laughed softly and reached forward to take Piper’s hand into hers. “It’s a date then.”

It’s all about the maturity!

Their dynamic is perfect and their pasts are so similar. I love the chemistry between them as well as their introduction that helped build the connection and shared history they already have.

Remember when Franky was in Chopper's body in Punk Hazard and every time he spoke Robin was like "Franky. Stop talking. Do not talk while you're in Chopper's body."

Scarabia: their characters on their own are good but seeing them together makes me extremely uncomfortable?? it’s probably because the orientalism plus people shipping together..it’s not jamil and kalims fault but i have a complicated relationship with scarabia

Octavinelle: idk they just don’t stand out to me. jade is neat but i feel like the tweels are overhyped. don’t really have an opinion about azul

Pomefiore: THE GAYS okay they’re awesome. this is mostly because of rook i just really like rook. and rookvil. epels great to actually. also on the complete opposite note their dorm uniforms are amazing (maybe even my favorite) i would totally wear them myself. but even though they’re in the top three i don’t really think about them more than any of the other dorms.

Ignihyde: okay of course my second favorite dorm is the cute family. what did you expect. but also they are so interesting?? book 6 has been the best book so far especially with all the lore. also ortho is best boy AND LITERALLY A ROBOT. how can you not like precious robot boy who loves his brother. also their designs are cool the hades hair and teeth are very gender.

Diasomnia: you already knew this was coming. my beloved dark romanticism found family dorm<33 i am literally obsessed with them okay. not only are their designs peak gender but they’re WRITING is so. augh. just the contrast between them. we got two faes who are centuries old and have experienced years upon years of hardship. war. suffering. and then we have two (one and a half) humans who have never experienced loss. or grief. they are honest and hardworking and loyal, they represent youth and joy!! and yet they all have so much LOVE and TRUST for eachother it makes me go INSANE!!!! also you can never miss with gothic aesthetics and fairies…literally the greatest thing out there

OxBlades is just. It’s so good. I think it’s pretty clear from my posting habits that it’s the campaign I’m the least into fandom-wise haha but truly, that is because it’s just so complete and whole to me. I think Luke ran an amazing campaign, the characters are all so endearing with their own quirks and personalities, and the story ends in such a beautiful note. As a long term My Little Pony fan, I love any story that has the plot of ‘we need to return magic to the world’ XD and I think the fact that it’s set in a far future Geth, a world that most Oxventure fans will already love, really solidifies the world building and plot. There’s so much intrigue there! I’ve probably said this before, but I have a special soft spot especially for all of the kids in OxBlades. I love Mumbles and Bug, I love Lilith’s ghost girl whose name I can’t remember right now, I love the various Dimmer Sisters kids ghdksgdkdhd I love them all!! So much!! AUGH they mean so much to me <3

And yes, omg, the Oxventurers’ Guild pets!! I wuv them. I think Seal Gaiman and Percy Junior are my favorites, though I love all of them quite a bit <3 Seal Gaiman is my favorite out of context fact to drop on my friends. “Hey. Look at this seal. Cute right? He loves scotch eggs. He also used to be a human man. He’s fine though he likes this… now…” HFKDGSKDGDKDH it’s just so funny. It never stops being funny. God. I love Seal Gaiman so so so much. And Percy Junior is just so cute to me <333 I love Corazón getting so attached to him. I love Merilwen trying and failing to win Percy Junior over. I love that Corazón and Egbert are both the kind of guys to name their pets after themselves, which is an utterly bonkers trait for one man to have, much less two

I do have a bit of a complex about Egbert’s various mounts (the most frequent of which is Dogbert, of course), as a guy who really loves paladins and also the nigh-useless mount feature in D&D 5e. Is Dogbert just one incarnation of the various mounts that Egbert summons, or are they all the same spirit? Like, he summons a horse once. Was that Dogbert? What about that alligator they summoned in Hog Wild (was it that episode. I dunno I’m not gonna check)? I think about this way too much XD in my heart, they’re all the same spirit. He’s very patient and loves Egbert sososososo much so he just deals with the fact that Egbert won’t make up his mind on what form he takes

Ok ok bellumbeck is like, my favorite part of phantom hourglass it makes me go insane. Idk I feel like I already talked about this but the music is so AUGH like it’s insane!!! It’s desperate! It’s scary! I remember when I first heard it my soul was ejected from my body and ascended to heaven it was insane.

But something I noticed with that fight is that it’s soooo different from the other boss battles. All the boss battles in phantom hourglass are pretty easy. They’re not SUPER easy (some of them are) but they’re easy enough where if you know what you’re doing you won’t die, and you can figure out what to do. However the final battle is HARD. Bellum is difficult and frustrating, the battle on the ship is fine, but bellumbeck is sooooo hard like it’s insane. He’s so powerful and idk, that messes me up cuz Linebeck is overall a pathetic man who’s not shown to fight, but here he is. And you have to fight him 😭😭😭 not to mention the implications that phantoms in the game we’re probably once people? And were taken by Bellum to be used to kill travelers who went in the temple? And we’re seeing that with Linebeck? And wondering if he’ll make it out or if he’ll be ok cuz you defeat him fast? Idk but possession always has me weak and this final boss genuinely makes me go feral.

augh okay where to start.

well, one of the main things is that there’s these things called syndicates

on three of the planets there’s these open world type areas. there’s the plains of eidolon on earth, the orb vallis on venus, and the cambion drift on deimos. all three of these are focused around the “main” three factions, grineer, corpus, and infested respectively. and those factions are like a whole other can of worms but the gist of it is one is clones, one is based on robotics and credits (profit), and one is like a zombie-adjacent infection that infests and mutilates people into a kind of mindless hivemind.

uhhh and in these open worlds, there’s a whole big area you can run around, run bounties for, mine, fish, and do animal conservation. doing all of these things can get you standing for their adjacent syndicate

so, for earth, there’s the ostron, which is like i think primarily a fishing and trade village, and are dealing with their plains being invaded by the grineer. for venus there’s solaris united, which is an underground city of people who are all in debt to the corpus (or “taxmen”) that they don’t even really have their own bodies anymore, and are kinda cyborg adjacent. and then on deimos there’s the entrati, which is a family that i think was once orokin (another faction, like almost godlike ethereal gold lined beings. or whatever) but ended up infested. and so you do the fishing and the bounties and whatever to get standings to rank up with them, which reveals lore and lets you buy more things from the vendors. and some of that stuff you need to build stuff like frames, or enhance your frames, or whatever, so ranking up just like generally helps you advance in the game

and then there’s a few smaller, newer factions. these don’t have full open worlds tied to them, but you still do bounties tied to their planets’ nodes and get standing that way!!

in the zariman (a whole story on its own, but the main thing is that it’s a massive mostly derelict ship that if i remember correctly got lost in the void and is kinda corrupted in that sense) there’s the uhhh. holdfasts, which are like the few survivors of this ship thatre hurt from the void and are trying to slowly rebuild what they can from before it went bad

and then, also on deimos, there’s the cavia. theyre one of my favorites cackles. they’re a group of animals that were experimented on by albrecht entrati (who also has a Massive story tied to him and i can talk about more if you wanted cackles) and were eventually abandoned and left in stasis(?) by albrecht. they’re eventually awakened when the rest of albrecht’s lab is by you. anywayg. he was experimenting on them via sending them into the void, which killed almost all of his other subjects. void exposure is nasty shit dude. BUT these guys, they gained intelligence and consciousness from the void exposure. so their whole story and progression is turmoiling with being forcefully evolved almost and now being forced to understand what was done to them, what albrecht did to them. an example of this is that, tagfer, (his name is short for “tag for disposal”) is the Last of his species, and he had a mate who died during their trip to the void. so. that kinda situation

uhhh anyway i think that’s mostly the gist with the syndicates. there’s a bit more to them but. yea

they’re very devoted to one another. like — just look at all of last life. they spent their green and yellow lives working together, building up the snow fortress. on the first day bdubs got boogey, and he could’ve easily killed etho when his back was turned. but he didn’t.

and then when bdubs went red? and the technical rule was any alliances are broken? implying bdubs should’ve left the fort? and what do they do? they split the fort in half. like I think they joked about separating a few times, but in the end, neither of them followed through with it.

and the entire time bdubs is red, he’s trying to get etho to join him. because he wants etho on his side. because they’re a team. and etho kind of plays along but he’s got his own strategy going and he goes!!!!!!! and gets bdubs a life!!!!!!! he gets bdubs a life so they can properly work together again and just. augh. Im fine. Im so fine.

ethubs are truly one of those pairs that are just. really devoted to one another? like bdubs is a lot louder about it, while etho is quieter, more subtle. and then their ending…. god.

Dirkjake Fic Recs

i will be the first to admit im picky about my dirkjake, largely because i will not fucking stand for any fic where i feel like jake isnt given his just dues. jake is too fascinating and great of a character to just be that guy dirk liked. so here are my four absolute favorite dirkjake fics that i still stand by with my whole chest

The Four Kings, the God Thief, and the Black Diamond Pirates

Dirk and Vriska have it good. They raid ships, pillage merchant vessels, constantly poison each other, possess a lucrative pact with the Wind King, sing a lot of dope fuckin’ sea shanties, and captain a loveable crew of pirate scum. They’re ready to kick back, take it easy, and become the vile and revered scourge of the diamond trading line. Then they find someone in the water.

this has to be one of the greatest dirkjake fics ever written. oxfordRoulette excels so brilliantly at writing homestuck characters as theyre meant to be: assholes. horrible, horrible, terrible assholes. they pull no punches writing the pirates in this story to be just the most irredeemable pieces of shit and thats what makes it so goddamn good. their dialogue is hilarious, the relationship between dirk and vriska is EVERYTHING to me, and the gods are written so fucking brilliantly its impossible not to love them (predictably, i am particularly in love w dave, but theyre genuinely all so good). plus, its ILLUSTRATED, and their art is just fantastic

Meeting Dirk Strider is only the beginning of the journey of changing his worldview, as well as an epic quest of saving the world, when spirits from an ancient legend come to life. A story about adventures, magic, conspiracy, sacrifices, smart people and clever plans, people who make mistakes, and many instances of great love. Set in a sort of steampunk world (no computer technologies, airships are a predominant way of travelling).

this is ANOTHER one of the greatest dirkjake fics ever written, but its also just one of the best homestuck fics ever written. if you liked my godstuck fics, you should DEFINITELY read this bc it inspired me a lot. the things they do w classpects are so fucking creative and while it is dirkjake its just as much a fic about jade and jake. its brilliantly fucking done, and i recommend it to absolutely everyone and anyone

medievalstuck. this one, as well as @callmearcturus's followup fic, A Spark, A Flame, A Fire, is definitely worth a read. jake is so often shafted in dirkjake fics, its a rare treasure when you find him written with quite so much care as he is in these fics. both authors have fascinating things to say about who jake is and how he communicates with people, and when it comes to arcs fic, i just LOVE how dave and rose are written, augh. theyre so fucking precious. im also a big big fan of roxy and jakes friendship! i still think about roxys little petnames for jake all the time. the derse vs prospit worldbuilding also just lives in the back of my head rent free at all times. if you liked my fic, Tactical Retreat, you should definitely read these bc god knows they totally influenced my worldbuilding

A story about cycles, and how to break them, and the patterns left in the scattered pieces afterward.

sort of a medieval, fairytale style fic. i just love the way jake is written in this one, hes so fucking charming. the story itself and the plot is really compelling, and the worldbuilding is great! arc also just has a writing style that just sort of... flows, you know? its fucking beautiful honestly i wanted to write like that so bad

I know that your experience with FE Engage so far hasn’t been great but who were your favourite characters so far during your playthrough and why?

Augh man… I don’t know if I’m the best person to ask about characters; I dropped so many or didn’t pick others up because of how desperate I was to just progress; and with no constant skirmishes, I didn’t have the privilege to really invest in them when I was already investing in others.

So I’m gonna do a list of the characters I like, and a list of the characters I wish I could have invested in.

Characters I like:

Zelkov- Stated many times, but even though Ivy (unfairly) gets credit for bringing the rings to you, it was Zelkov who stole the rings and the Time Crystal. Chapter 11 was my most frustrating chapter at that time; the freezes, the teleporting, the extra movement. Zelkov was literally my shining light and that’s when I swore to marry him. Him being kind, gentle, and handsome was just a bonus.

Veyle: GOSH I CAN’T GET INTO IT IN JUST A SHORT LITTLE SEGMENT BUT VEYLE. IS PERFECT. There WILL be a whole post delving into her character.

Hortensia: I brought it up briefly but Hortensia really does (ONLY IN MY SUBJECTIVE OPINION) have the better character arc and personality. She’s also cute as a button and whoever voices her does an amazing job.

Rosado: Aside from being pretty and well-designed, Rosado’s actually a genuinely nice character and just… way better than Rosemary. I don’t know if the English VA says it with just as much flamboyance, but his Japanese “EMBLEMU, ENGAAAAAAGE!” is my favorite.

Jean: Listen, this kid is the ONLY original recruitable character in a paralogue (original, Anna doesn’t count). I’m gonna keep this kid with me no matter what.

Fogado: I honestly don’t need to say much. I do feel bad for saying this, but I think he’s more charismatic than Timerra, who I never used. I actually kind of ship him with Hortensia, so when all this is said and done, I kind of want to do a comic where they reunite again later when they’re both adults and they start catching feelings for each other. Mark my words, I WILL do it.

Mauvier: Man, this guy was one of my marriage options because his character was just so fascinating. As much as I’ve come around to Marni and Griss, their character development is very… last minute. Which feels really cheap because while it’s GOOD character backstory, you don’t get to enjoy it. But Mauvier’s growth and character was so well-defined and progressed properly that you just KNOW he’s gonna be important.

Alcryst: He may be timid but he crits at the most needed times, my man. Also again, I love his personality and character growth and dynamic with Diamant.

Citrinne: Also really cool, didn’t know she was Diamant and Alcryst’s cousin until supporting her with Diamant, which bugs me. That’s important info and I feel like she should have been included in the Brodia cutscenes.

Lapis: Listen. I love this baby girl. I love her to death. But her STATS, man. I get that I massively fucked up and promoted her too early (14 or 15), but I struggle with her keeping up. I’m NOT abandoning her though, I love my farm girl.

Etie: Stated before, but I like her unique character design (dainty-dressed lady with abs) and she’s saved my ass. Though it’s weird/funny how her bow twitches like cat ears during cutscenes.

So those were units I actually use, whom I like. And these ones are units I wish I could have invested in:

Panette: LOVE the Day of the Dead aesthetic, love that she’s a berserker. But at the time I was still trying to salvage Boucheron, so I never picked her up. Which sucks because I ended up dropping Boucheron completely.

Kagetsu: I REALLY wanted to work with him, because it’s fascinating that he’s the only Japanese-based character, he reminds me of Say’ri and Yen’fey. But I stuck with Lapis.

Saphir: I like her a lot, and I loved her support with Vander. But I just couldn’t get started on using her because she showed up so late, and I was trying to work with the units I had. I enjoy the older female characters.

Pandreo: Loved this party boy. I tried sticking with him for a few levels, but eventually had to go back to Jean. For what it’s worth though, he was a good reliable unit and I liked his character.

Boucheron: Ok I know I said I dropped him, but gosh dammit I REALLY wish he worked out! But he was super unreliable during my run (and I get it, that’s just how berserker units are in FE), wouldn’t land decently percentaged hits and wouldn’t crit very much. I think his character was pretty funny and well-defined, but they didn’t lean very much into the “cries easily” part of his personality for some supports.

Merrin: Wolf rider. That’s all I need to say.

But yeah, that’s the big ol’ comprehensive list. I probably will NOT be replaying Engage so I can’t really say much, though I’ll happily build most of these units in FEH when they get added.

This has opened a Pandora’s box of a rant so here y’all go

My fav Undertale ship of ALL TIME is Grillster. I think they’re so epic, and they would love each other so much. There’s just so much great contrast (at least for my headcanons). For example:

- Grillby is warm, Gaster is cold

- Grillby is quiet, Gaster is loud

- Grillby is overly worried, Gaster is reckless

But at the end of the day they snuggle up together and love on each other. I just love the idea of Grillby loving on Gaster so much. AUGH please I need more people to like this ship please!!!!!!!! It’s such a crackship but I love it so much.

I also ship Asgore with an mini oc I have :) I haven’t fleshed him out much but he’s a human and he’s just as much as a bear as Asgore is :))) he also gets to be Santa alongside Asgore!!!!!! Old men in love :)

As for Deltarune, I don’t think about ships too much. Suselle is my fav :))) Berdris is of course god tier, and probably my fav ship with Kris. I just want them to be cringe together :)

Susie and Kris is also epic but I don’t like it as much as the other two ships. Although Susie x Kris x Noelle is definitely very epic

Ralsei is so sweet but I don’t know what’s goin on with him so I can’t reliably ship him with anyone until we figure out more of his deal. But I do love him very much.

They fall asleep cuddling in a very specific position: Zircon sleeps in the middle facing the wall, Sylvan sleeps between the wall and Zircon and fits his head neatly into the crook of xir neck, and Corey sleeps behind Zircon for easy access to the nice texture of xir hair, which she often buries her head in or just plays with.

They love songwriting together, it’s their favorite part of being musicians, they feel absolutely comfortable bouncing ideas off each other, splicing together wacky rhymes and goofing off playing random songs on their instruments. They also enjoy just running around 198X London dressed in very normal clothes (Zircon usually needs shades to hide the orange eyes), sometimes with Phoebe, and joking about how no one could tell that they’re the legendary rock icons Singulari+y! Sylvan also sometimes talks them into exploring abandoned places with him (and they’re in England so lots of buildings have a history!) and both of the others pretend that they aren’t scared (though Zircon is more unnerved by unstable architecture than xe is by the concept of ghosts).

Augh I’m bad at ship songs… Zircon and Sylvan are mutually Lady Stardust, Rebel Rebel is very Zircon @ Corey, Corey is Cloud 9 @ both of her partners (oh also Corey and Sylvan are more queerplatonic but both are /r with Zircon), also Stereo Hearts can be any of them @ each other really…

A few miscellaneous inside silly things:

- Corey will make stupid music puns her mom taught her (eg. Saying ‘not looking too sharp!’ whenever Zircon plays a minor chord on xir guitar because chords in the minor key always contains a flat (the opposite of a sharp)) during EVERY rehearsal and every time Sylvan will sigh loudly and very dejectedly do a ‘ba-dum tss!’ on his drum set.

- When Corey and Zircon first revealed the fact that Zircon is an alien to Sylvan, they showed him xir antennae and he blurted out “Xe’s a snail person?!” (because the antennae really are kinda reminiscent of a snail) so every time Zircon takes too long doing something it’s “Hurry up, snail person!”

- Corey and Zircon jumping every time Sylvan references anything to do with space for old times’ sake (they did it unironically pre-reveal because ‘oh sparkles he knows and is dropping hints!!’ All three of them still do it unironically when Phoebe does it.)

I’m pretty proud of my writing in general, so this isn’t too hard, but augh, specifics are difficult XD I think I’m pretty flexible in my writing and that lets me explore a lot of different character dynamics and scenarios? I’ve always been a multishipper, I’m not too hung up on headcanons or favorite ships, I just write whatever idea strikes me. And because of that, I get to try writing a lot of different things! Probably my strong suit in fandoms tends to be: I write a fucking lot, so there’s always something that people are going to enjoy

Depends the fic! But most of the time, I just fly by the seat of my pants. I write a few words to five sentences describing ideas I get, and then later, I go back. Read my brief note. And go “okay!” and just start writing. If it’s a longer fic (for me lol) though, like over 7k, I will write a brief outline for myself to make sure I include every scene that I want to! Like I have an outline for that long oneshot I keep mentioning and not finishing XD and for GUY.exe, I always try and have a concept written for the next chapter so I know what I’ll be working on next and what I need to build towards
