tw: addiction & overdose
The Vickers family is renowned in the Capitol – not for their power, like the Snows; nor for their wealth, like the Cranes, but for their magnanimity. Dear reader, you might imagine it is exceedingly rare for a family hailing from the Capitol to be so seemingly benevolent, and, reader, you would be correct. The Vickers stand out like a sore thumb among their peers for this very reason. For as long as anybody can recall, they have made their names and their livings in the fields of medicine and science. The tale is passed down from generation to generation – a great, great, great grandmother, Claudette Vickers, had dedicated her life to curing some sort of ailment that had plagued her husband. So too, did her children. And their children. And so on, and so forth, until the story has been told and retold so many times that nobody can remember what had originally drawn young Claudette to studying medicine in the first place.
Yes, the Vickers’ are well known in the Capitol, but this does not mean they are well liked. Your family is considered somewhat strange by the wider Capitol society. When asked, people might be pressed to say exactly what it is that makes the Vickers’ so off putting – perhaps their interest in the macabre, or their arrogance, or their pervasive holier than thou attitude. Yes, they are strange, but they are tolerated. They sit permanently on the outskirts of elite society – sanctioned for their skills, but never truly accepted. This is where you grow up – watching the Capitol elite from the sidelines. The strange Vickers girl that nobody ever wanted to play with. It doesn’t matter, of course, because your family is not interested in such trivial things as social status.
You become familiar with your family’s story, and the accompanying modus operandi at a young age – first, to do no harm; second – to leave the world in a better state than that which you found it. This is quite an expectation to place on a young child, but it is the same expectation that has been placed on generations of Vickers children before you – on your father, and his father, and his father before him. On your aunts, and your uncles, and your cousins. You are the only child born to Clytemnestra and Avarice Vickers – a pair well-respected, if absurd, physicians. Your parents are kind and they are generous, but they are sanctimonious, and intent on proving their altruism and goodness, to the point of their own destruction.
Your parents work long, gruelling hours in their clinic, providing treatment and care for all those who need it, without ever seeing a profit in return. You grow accustomed to sleeping in their back office, or else spending long nights at home alone before you have even started school. As you get a little older, they start disappearing for weeks at a time to deliver medicine and aid to the districts (though the districts had never asked for such help from a pair of relatively well-off Capitolites), leaving you to your own devices, When they return, they drag you along to fundraisers where they boast about their good deeds and present their work. Any spare coin they have is spent on their clinic, on their research – and very rarely on you. You understand that your parents only have the very best of intentions, that their cause is, ultimately, noble – and yet, you cannot help but resent them for it.
You grow up with the expectation that you will follow in your parents’ footsteps. That you will take over their clinic, provide medicine and expertise to all those who ask for it. You think you want it, too, when you are young. You dream of curing disease and becoming renowned throughout Panem – like your ancestors before you. Maybe this is the first warning sign of things to come – you are never altruistic in your goals, but you crave the glory that will come with success, even if you cannot admit this to yourself. You have a ribbon of something selfish within you – and it would only take a single tug before the selfless persona that you have crafted comes unravelled. Unfortunately for you, your family, and your dreams, such an influence comes with great hair, a great smile, and a great name.
You meet Aurelius Crane while you are in university. You are studying science at the time – only a few short years away from your medical degree and, with it, the rest of your life. Aurelius is the exact opposite of everything you have been taught to value – he is self-absorbed, egotistical, obnoxious. He does not share your dreams of making the world a better place, but rather, he wishes to rule it. And, with Crane attached to his name, he very likely will, one day. It would be easy for you to hate him – and you do, at first. But for all his faults, Aurelius is charming, intelligent, and has an ambition big enough to match your own. You don’t know where the lines begin to blur between disdain and devotion, but when Aurelius asks for your hand and invites you into his world, you jump in head first without caution.
You have never been poor, by any stretch of the imagination, but the level of wealth that surrounds Aurelius and his family is beyond your wildest dreams. Elite society was something you had been taught to resent – a vacuum of wealth and privilege and power that only served to rot Panem from the very top. And yet, you become quickly enamoured with it – with the glitz and the glamour and the wealth and the power. You become accustomed to hanging off Aurelius’ arm, to having doors opened to you, seeing your face in magazines, and being envied. Your parents do not approve of the union – of the Crane family in general – but now that you have tasted a hint of power, you don’t want to go back to mediocrity, to insignificance. Your plans quickly change – you drop out of university only a few months shy of your medical degree, instead deciding to dedicate yourself to philanthropy. Aurelius promises that you will be able to run your own medical research foundation – that you can continue your familys legacy without ever having to lift a finger.
Maybe, were you not so smitten with your fiancé and blinded by privilege, you might have realised that it was all too good to be true.
Aurelius has been hedonistic for as long as you have known him. Always in pursuit of his next high – whether it is found in a boardroom or a bottle. Maybe you should have been concerned as you approached thirty, and, rather than slowing down, he only sped up. Even as you pull back from the more wild Capitol parties, Aurelius disappears most nights – only returning when the sun begins to rise, most of the time too high or drunk to even recognise you. Eventually, the behaviour becomes too much even for you to ignore, leading to fights that last long into the evening, and days marred by animosity. Still, you love him. Still, you remain by his side. Looking back, you think you would have followed him to the end of the earth. Maybe you still would.
You find Aurelius passed out in your bathroom and assume that he’s dead. You spend the next twenty-four hours in a cold hospital waiting room, praying to a god that you have never believed in for your fiancé to pull through. You think that god might be merciful when you are told he has woken up, but you are quickly disproven. You had imagined that this might be a turning point, that Aurelius would finally seek the help he needs, that you would be married, and everything he had promised would come to fruition. And, to your credit, it is a turning point – just not the one you had hoped for. Aurelius calls off your engagement three days later. He doesn’t offer a reason, but his father reaches out and offers more money than you have ever seen in exchange for your silence. The conditions are clear: you don’t mention the overdose, the failed engagement, the partying, and you disappear. You do this, and the money is yours.
Part of you wants to refuse the payout out of spite, but you swallow your pride and bite your tongue. The money is a start, but you are thirty years old, and you have found yourself suddenly single, unemployed, and sorely lacking connections outside of your ex-fiancé’s social circle. In other words, you’re completely fucked. You briefly consider returning to university, completing your medical degree, and following your parents into practice, as you had once planned. But your relationship with the people who raised you is fractured beyond repair, and you know they won’t pay for you to complete your education. And, worse still, you now find that this life is terribly unappealing to you. You no longer have the desire to help for the sake of helping. Without Aurelius, you are ignored by the friends you thought you’d made. You are shunned from the life you’d had, forced back into the periphery, and you retreat with your tail between your legs.
So, you spend your payout on a fancy apartment, and you find yourself a less noble, but far more lucrative, source of income. You have always been interested in genetics – in fact, you’d dedicated your undergraduate studies to the topic. You had once intended to use your knowledge in the pursuit of saving lives, but now you focus it on ending them. A geneticist for the games pays surprisingly well, and it allows you to channel your frustrations and your anger and your fascination with the macabre into creating the most beautifully grotesque creatures imaginable. You find that you enjoy it well enough, and you’re good at it – but the life you could have had is never far from your mind. The life of glamour and fame and money and power, rather than the life of long hours and tiny screens and a stunning lack of recognition. The life in the spotlight, rather than one in the shadows.
You think you’ve done a pretty good job at moving on. You have done everything that was asked of you in exchange for your small fortune. You have started to become reacquainted with a life of mediocrity. You are doing well, you think. That is, of course, until you see your ex-fiancé’s face plastered on the front cover of the daily news. Aurelius, like you, has been largely incognito since the dissolution of your engagement. You don’t know why you’d assumed this would be permanent – who you had assumed the golden boy would forever remain an inhabitant of the shadows. You don’t know why you’re so surprised to read the announcement, to learn that he is being restored to his position within his father’s company. That, despite what had happened, he is going to get back everything he had squandered away, whilst you have been left with nothing.
You’re not just annoyed, you’re not just frustrated, you’re furious.
You have never considered yourself a vengeful person – but, then again, maybe you’d never had someone to dedicate such single-minded resentment towards. You see Aurelius’ smug face, and, even though there is still love there – your hatred of him is far stronger. He had taken your idealism and twisted you into something else. He had promised you the world and ripped it away. And you hate him for it. You decide you want revenge. Not just against Aurelius, but against every one of his family and friends who had made you feel like one of them, and then shunned you at the first opportunity. The desire to destroy them as they had destroyed you, to watch them burn as they had watched you whither. You don’t have a plan, yet, but you have always been patient, and you will wait for the opportunity to strike.
You are angry, yes. And yet, you know, deep down, that if Aurelius offered to take your hand and bring you back into the spotlight – you know that you would jump in headfirst just like you had the first time. Even after all this time, you would follow him anywhere.

We debated in posting anything at all when it came to Jeff Baena as there is just so little a person that is private by choice could possibly want out there.
… But that is all just to lead to Jeff Baena and who he was as an artist. The other aspects are not anything the public was given the rights to by choice and that should continue. Yes they were married on paper at the time of his death but that really shouldn’t matter at all.
What greater tribute to an artist can one make than watching something that at one point they put all their time and dedication into?
As a trigger warning, he wrote about suicide in several of his films and there are events around them that may be triggering, especially now. To the Aubrey Plaza fans she is in most of them. His best, arguably, is HorseGirl (2020) on Netflix. His last was Spin Me Round (2022) which can be viewed on Hulu, AMC +
Feel free to like or reblog this because there is a lot more to this person than who he married despite what the media has tried to insinuate.
And to those who are facing the darkest of decisions and don’t see a way out - someone out there sees you and understands. Don’t go.

Jeff Baena and Aubrey Plaza. Mark Davis/Getty Images for Sundance NEXT Aubrey Plaza and family are paying tribute to Jeff Baena. “It is with profound sadness and grief that we announce the sudden and unexpected death of Jeff Baena, a beloved son, husband, brother, uncle and friend to many,” Baena’s obituary, which was published in the Miami Herald, read. “Jeff left us too soon but despite his woefully too-short life, he left us with treasured memories of a gifted filmmaker, as well as a very special person on so many different levels.” While the obit honored Baena for his credits in the entertainment industry, his loved ones shared some insight on how he found his passion for film which he “fell in love with” when he was “11 years old watching A Clockwork Orange and Felini’s 8 1/2.” “Each of his films reflects a carefully crafted balance of the logical and the implausible. His juxtaposition of intellect and creativity challenged us. He embraced independent film making because of his unalterable distaste for institutional guardrails on creativity,” the message continued. “Those who worked with him praise his vision, taste, technical competence, and ability to coalesce actors into an ensemble that performs in perfect harmony. A family atmosphere always ensued. He loved nature and highlighted it cinema-graphically in his films whenever and wherever possible.” Related: Actor Adam Pally's 'Heart Breaks' for Aubrey Plaza After Husband Jeff's Death Aubrey Plaza is in everyone’s thoughts as actors pay tribute to her husband, Jeff Baena, after the director’s shocking death. Jerod Harris/Getty Images “When he was a boy, Jeff loved reading The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. Ironically, in it, the Little Prince exclaims, ‘I haven’t much time. I have friends to find and so many things to learn.’ And so it was for Jeff,” the post read. Baena is survived by Plaza, his parents, siblings, nephews and nieces. Thank You! Agatha All Along: Everything You Need to Know About Marvel’s Newest Witchy Adventurew
Agatha All Along, Marvel’s latest spinoff series on Disney+, centers on the enigmatic and powerful Agatha Harkness, a character who first captivated fans in WandaVision. Created by Jac Schaeffer, the series brings back Kathryn Hahn in her iconic role as Agatha and follows her journey through a twisted, supernatural narrative that’s both darkly comedic and thrilling. From release details to plot teasers, here’s everything you need to know about Agatha All Along and why this series is stirring up excitement for Marvel fans worldwide.
Everything You Need to Remember Before Agatha All Along
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9pXbNz6Vbw Release Date and Streaming Details The show launched in 2024 on Disney+, a go-to platform for Marvel content that seamlessly continues storylines from previous series. Marvel fans can expect weekly episodes, each diving deeper into the magical mysteries of Agatha’s world. For those wondering, watching WandaVision is beneficial but not strictly necessary, as Agatha All Along brings a fresh storyline while offering flashbacks to help viewers unfamiliar with Agatha’s past understand her motivations. “Marvel’s supernatural storytelling reaches a new high with Agatha All Along,” as a fan noted on Marvel.com, emphasizing the series’ distinct appeal to lovers of darker, magical narratives. Plot Overview: A Witchy Road to Redemption? After being trapped under a spell in WandaVision, Agatha Harkness finds herself on a perilous journey down the Witches’ Road, a path filled with supernatural challenges that push her powers to the limit. With the help of a mysterious goth teenager, Agatha ventures into mystical trials inspired by various pop culture eras, blending dark comedy with a fresh, nostalgic twist. The plot promises to be as enchanting as it is unpredictable, with every episode offering a new genre homage. According to IMDb, Agatha’s story is an “inverted riff on a classic adventure tale.” By putting Agatha at the heart of a dangerous quest, Marvel flips traditional narratives of heroism and redemption, creating a thrilling storyline for fans of anti-heroes.
Agatha All Along Everything You Need to Know About Marvel’s Newest Witchy Adventure (1) Characters: Returning Faces and New Allies Alongside Hahn’s Agatha, several characters return and new faces make their debut: - Joe Locke as the Teen, Agatha’s reluctant ally, whose desire to master the Witches’ Road initiates Agatha’s journey. - Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal, a powerful and suspicious ally with unclear motives. - Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, an ancient witch with deep ties to Agatha’s coven. - Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale, a character from Marvel’s mystic lore, adding layers to Agatha’s past and magical ties. Returning fans of WandaVision will recognize Emma Caulfield as Dottie, among other familiar faces. Themes and Inspirations: A Nod to Classic and Modern Witchcraft Marvel designed Agatha All Along with genre-blending storytelling in mind. Each trial Agatha faces brings her into different visual and thematic styles—paying tribute to gothic horror, classic witch tales, and even elements of dark comedy. This mix of horror and humor is something Marvel enthusiasts will enjoy, especially as the show explores darker elements of magic and mystery while introducing characters who are neither purely good nor evil. Marvel’s commitment to exploring Agatha’s moral ambiguity sets this series apart. “Agatha is purely evil and has never shown signs of redemption,” a fan commented on Reddit, highlighting the show’s appeal to viewers who crave complex, morally gray characters.
Agatha All Along Everything You Need to Know About Marvel’s Newest Witchy Adventure (1) Do You Need to Watch WandaVision First? While it’s not essential to watch WandaVision, doing so will enhance the experience. WandaVision sets the groundwork for Agatha’s powers, personality, and motivations, providing insight into her mysterious past. Agatha’s initial storyline is heavily intertwined with Wanda Maximoff’s, but Agatha All Along takes her character in a new direction, focusing on her own journey of self-discovery (and possibly redemption) rather than her role in Wanda’s life. Viewer Expectations: Dark Comedy with Witchy Vibes Fans of Marvel’s darker stories are in for a treat. With its supernatural premise, Agatha All Along carries a unique tone compared to previous Marvel shows, merging dark comedy with gothic horror. The series provides a refreshing departure from Marvel’s traditional superhero formula, appealing to viewers who enjoy stories that embrace the mystical and otherworldly. The series’ playful use of different eras and styles will likely captivate fans who appreciate Marvel’s attention to detail and creativity. “Marvel is giving fans a delicious mix of horror, history, and humor with Agatha All Along,” says The Ringer. Final Thoughts Agatha All Along is a must-watch for Marvel fans who have long awaited Agatha Harkness’s return. The series dives into her magical past, the Witches’ Road trials, and her morally complex nature, adding depth to an already fascinating character. This fresh Marvel entry offers an engaging look at one of the most intriguing figures from WandaVision, blending genres and exploring darker storytelling while keeping viewers laughing, gasping, and questioning Agatha’s every move. Marvel fans, grab your wands—it’s time to follow Agatha down the Witches’ Road! Read the full article
