How many times has Rafael Nadal won Madrid Open?
How many times has Rafael Nadal won Madrid Open?
Mutua Madrid Open tennis tournament got incepted in 2002 and got classified as ATP Master Series tournament then (ATP 1000 Masters now) the same year. It is one of the two tournaments in Europe, along with Italian Open, which is a WTA Tour 1000 tournament as well. I like the fact that no matter how long he's been injured, that he's still not on top, and he's dropped in the standings. Journalists, players, fans, the ATP, we continue to see him as the great champion he is, and honestly it's beautiful! It's like he never left. ❤️

The Ninth Best Chance: Madrid
In most ATP tournaments there are 8 seeds, and when you run your favorite forecast model, most of the time (not always) those 8 seeds project as favorites for the quarterfinals. They typically also project as the favorites to win the tournament.
But what about the guy with the 9th best chance?
In a Masters event, the guy with the 9th best chance is usually a seed as well.  Not this time.  This week in Madrid it is Milos Raonic (CAN) via my forecasting system: 1.2% chance.
What he’s got going for him:  He’s a top level player floating unseeded in the draw who is good enough to win any tournament. At least he’s not on Nadal’s side of the draw...that’s a positive.
What’s working against him:  Not in top form due to injuries.  He had to withdraw from his R16 match in Monte Carlo.  He hasn’t played three consecutive matches on clay since Roland Garros last year.  In Madrid, if he gets past Kicker (which he should), he’ll face Dimitrov in the second round.  Dimitrov is vulnerable, but Raonic eventually would square off against one of Goffin/Chung/Nishikori/Djokovic just to get to the SF.  My guess is that Raonic would be pleased to make the R16 (where he could face countryman Shapovalov).

My commentator must be from an AU because he just said Murray rarely gets emotional on court.
