Finished Atelier Sophie 2. Surprisingly, I think it might be my new favorite Atelier game. Probably has my favorite take on turn-based RPG combat. Having a backline of characters you can swap in mid combat with a meter gauge but also having the switch in let you use abilities/items for both characters, essentially putting you a turn ahead instead of behind, just feels like an elegant solution to not having any of your party be bench warmers while still retaining a 3 character on screen party. Also having your basic attack be useful against enemies with auras and being able to equip talismans to give you effects when you have a character block really does a good job of not making them feel like dead buttons. I honestly liked Sophie 2's take on the "Mystery" series' block puzzle version of alchemy. The first half of the game, it def felt way more restrictive then Sophie 1, Firis or L&S but I really liked that even once I got higher grade ingredients and tools, I still had to actually think through how to place my blocks instead of just dumping them in where they fit. It's an Atelier game so It's story and characters were fairly chill and not exactly complex but it did get a couple of tears from me near the end. I'd def probably put it a bit above Ryza and L&S in my Atelier game ranking. And now that I'm back into an Atelier game mood, I'm going to finally try to restart going through the rough DX ports of the Arland games (or at least try to finish Rorona before Ryza 3 drops...)
