Islamic School Syllabus

What is good Islamic School Syllabus?To know the answer, we must understand what Islam demands from its followers. Islam is the religion of peace, which can be inculcated within the self first, and then the society. This peace comes by connecting to the All Mighty in the way shown to the world by the last Prophet Peace be upon him. Islamic syllabus is the course of study that helps students achieve this inner peace, a peace with the fellow human beings and build a strong personal relationship with Allah in the light of the life lived by Prophet Muhammad, Sallau ellehe wa aleihi wasalam.

Islamic education has its roots in two sources: The Holy Quran, and the life of the Prophet. These two sources contain within them the divide code that can help each person achieve peace at his or her own personal level. The study of these two sources has to be made by each Muslim. The wisdom unfolds as each person ponders over these sources at individual pace.

A good Islamic syllabus should enable students to study these two sources independently. It opens a way for students to start a personal journey towards self discovery and knowing Allah, the creator of everything. As personal understanding of these two sources grow, the learner starts living a proactive life. A good Islamic syllabus helps students discover the ways a positive contribution can be made in life.

Islam links a strong bondage with Allah and inner peace with success in the life hereafter. So all the contribution made by a Muslim in this life brings reward in the life hereafter. That’s another purpose of Islamic School syllabus: to prepare students for the life hereafter.

  Here are some of the concepts that students should learn through an Islamic Syllabus. Given with each concept is the chapter of the Quran that can help students grasp that concept:

The oneness of Allah: Surah Ikhlas

Allah is the protector: Surah Quresh

Allah is the creator: Surah Alla

Living a proactive life: Sura Asar

Inner peace: Surah Nashirah

Freedom from Fear: Surah Falak and Naas

Asking Allah for help: Surah Fatiha

Abstaining from Materialism: Surah Al Takatur

Being grateful: Surah Al Adiyat

Creating a personal relationship with Allah: Surah Zuhha

Each of the above themes can be explained and elaborated with references from the Prophet’s life. That makes a theme from Quran more relevant and practical as children can study the practical side of the idea discussed in Quran.

There can be many other theme that can be made a part of Islamic Syllabus, as Quran has many of such themes discussed in it from start to finish. But an Islamic School Syllabus may cover the above ten and then students can become a lifelong student of Quran and Hadith.

At-Takāthur Ayah: 1 أَلۡهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ Competition for worldly gains distracts you [from Allah], Arabic explanations of the Qur’an: Ayah: 2 حَتَّىٰ زُرۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَقَابِرَ until you come to your graves. Ayah: 3 كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ No indeed! You will come to know. Ayah: 4 ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَ Again no! You will come to know. Ayah: 5 كَلَّا لَوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عِلۡمَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ No indeed! If only you knew for certain[1]. [1] The conclusion of this verse, "...you would not have been distracted from preparing for the Hereafter by wealth and children." Ayah: 6 لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ You will surely see the Blazing Fire, Ayah: 7 ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيۡنَ ٱلۡيَقِينِ Again, you will see it with absolute certainty. Ayah: 8 ثُمَّ لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ Then on that Day you will surely be asked about your worldly pleasures[2].
