Industry guest lecture talk

Every Wednesday on my timetable, from 11am-12.30pm we have someone speak to my class over MS Teams and it's where we get people who work in the industry to come and speak about their experiences, their job, how they got there etc.

The guest I will be talking about is Beth. She works as a global creative visual merchandising assistant (VM for short) at ALLSAINTS for womenswear.

She attended NUA (Norwich Uni of the Arts) which is the same one I attend- o̿ ̭ o̿

So to get to where she is, she graduated from the Fashion Communications & Promotions (FCP for short because I ain't typing that all out) course at NUA (same course I'm on!) 6 years ago! She enrolled in 2015 and started interning in her second year.

In 2017 she did a 3 month internship at Vivienne Westwood and in 2018 graduated with a degree with honours.

In 2018 she did a 2 month internship at Lulu Guinness which is a brand that sells expensive handbags✨✨

During that same year she did a 6 month internship at Jimmy Choo which is another luxury brand (no seriously, there's a pair of shoes which is £825, trust).

In 2019-2021 she became a VM assistant at Astrid & Miyu (luxury jewellery brand). She then became the senior VM at the same company.

Still in 2021 she became the global creative VM for womenswear clothing at ALLSAINTS which is a luxury clothing brand. And she's still working there to this day! *((♛‿♛))

Beth gave some good advice for graduates or other people wanting to become a VM. If people are interested then they should figure out what side they want to be in.

She says that the more one progresses through the career, they'll find themselves being on more the creative side. Someone could be a field manager or they could be on the creative side.

Beth also stated that being a VM is a huge role with a lot of variety depending on the role someone picks and the type of brand they want to go for.

So overall it really broadened my understanding on which roles my course could lead me into (￫‿ฺ￩)✌

do you have any favourite jewellery recommendations? my birthday's coming up and i really want to buy a necklace/ring that i like and is quality, i am a fan of gold jewellery if that helps (im warm toned)

If I'm honest, most of the jewelry I wear is either pieces other people have given me or just from Etsy or Pavoi on Amazon. But I would check out Mejuri - it has lots of minimalist, good quality, wearable, sustainable gold pieces, and it's been worn by people like Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber, and Olivia Rodrigo. Gorjana is another brand you might want to look at, especially if you like layering pieces. Catbird is good if you like dainty pieces, and as a bonus, it's women-run and the jewelry is mostly made out of recycled gold. For something more unique, Local Eclectic is a women-run company that's a great place to find up-and-coming jewelry designers from around the world.
