Planar Layer: The Abyssphere

Other Names: The Abyss, the Yawning Void, the First Cosmos

Sphere type: Overlapping

Location: The “centermost” overlapping sphere. 

Time: Uncertain, though it seems to possess its own standard flow of time.

Size: Coterminous with the size of most of the other spheres, continuing to expand

Life: -A vast variety of Abyssal Daemons, and their ancient Daemon overlords and ancestors known as the Angreloth. 

-Several lesser Great Old Ones, as well as their Servitors.

-A strange, glowing, reclusive, insect-like Astral race of creatures known as Vulocrin. These rare Astral beings often exist in colonies and are usually very hard to find. Being reclusive and surprisingly passive, even some of the best Abyssal predators have a hard time catching them if they manage to encounter them.

Lesser Realms and Areas Within: The Cosmic Battleground: The last stand of the most ancient of cosmic conflicts rages on between the forces of Asmodaios, ruler of Infernum, and the descendants of the ancient Angreloth daemons, the Abyssals. At a certain dimensional threshhold between the Abyss and Stygia of the Somnisphere/the Dream Dimension, the last battlefield of this ancient war continues to be littered with violence and fresh corpses, where select legions of Abyssals continue to organize in attempt to break through from their planar prison in order to lay waste to the cosmoses with their hunger and wanting to bring destruction and entropy upon it.

Notes: -This foreboding plane is most well-known as the ancestral home of the Abyssal Daemons, who are the primary descendants of the invading first Daemons, called Angreloth. The Angreloth as they were only exist today as the immortal Angreloth lords, classifiable as a more destructive and hungering variant of Outer God. Their shorter-lived descendants have all evolved and changed into the Abyssal Fiends and lords that populate most of the Abyss today. Other Angreloth that did not reach what is now called the Abyss were banished by the Ultimate Astral Gods into the Antisphere, where over the aeons they have been twisted into all new and even more alien forms of being. All of Daemons/Fiends and their classifications will be discussed in a later entry. -Before the Daemons, however, this Sphere was the first physical cosmos to exist, inhabited by the Primordial Elementals as the first tangible life forms and watched over by the Ultimate Astral Gods. With the arrival of the Angreloth Daemons, this sphere was subject to the corruption they brought, and was ultimately sealed away in order to trap these cosmic aggressors, keeping them away from the newer Spheres that were created. -Concerning the nature of the sphere itself, the Abyss is full of planets, moons, planetoids, stars, nebula, galaxies and other objects of the cosmos. However, none of these are inhabited with life anywhere near as we know it, with the aforementioned denizens being the only widespread inhabitants. As they don’t need to breathe, or even need to eat or drink to any meaningful capacity save to sate their savage natures, they encounter no issues in the fact that no planets or moons contain any biomes or atmospheres. As the Primordial Elementals did not require such things in this first Cosmos, this sphere was never designed with such things in mind by the will of the Creator. Additionally, as they are by nature very hardened creatures, many Daemons are hardly bothered by the somewhat unnaturally-increased intensities of radiation from stars and galaxies (which shine in a variety of hues considered unnatural in our Physisphere), and many can easily endure the even more frigid and dead conditions of deep space, even if only for a time, though some Abyssals are more adapted for these various environments than others. -Overall, the Abyssal sphere is a corrupted, savage, merciless post-war wasteland of a dimensional plane, in which the elements are corrupted with a chaotic sort of energy state that corrodes matter from other planes without proper reinforcement or blessings. An unprotected non-native traveller risks at the least an accelerated molecular decomposition without some supernatural or temporal type of protection. Here, only the most capable and powerful Abyssals ultimately survive, though the astral Vulocrin are known for hiding away in clever fashions from the more powerful and dangerous Daemons in order to continue on. On the other hand, several of the near-deathless descendants of the Outer Gods, the Great Old Ones, are of such strange influence and intelligence within the Abyss that Daemon and Vulocrin alike will often think twice about ever challenging them. -One intriguing and worrying observation from my time in the Abyssphere is the behavior of the more intelligent Daemonic denizens; while many mindlessly carry on throughout the Abyssal cosmos, and many others join ranks to continue the ancient war and challenge the Infernal Astral deity Asmodaios to break through His seal and enter the full of the multiverse, others seem to have sensed locales within the Abyssphere that corrospond extradimensionally to planets and moons in the Physisphere that teem with mortal life. It is through these locales of somewhat thinner dimensional veils that many Abyssal Daemons attempt to reach out psychically, seeking to influence intelligent mortals that they might engage in rituals that might allow those Daemons to enter our physical sphere. Certain capable daemons have also managed a form of astral projection, which has allowed them to possess animals and, in rare cases, more sapient mortal creatures. This behvior would explain the cases of actual Daemon possession that has been reported by various cultures throughout the Physisphere, and such a possession capability might even be able to function across the other spheres. This extradimensional link between the spheres in these locales may also influence the forms that these Daemons take through psychic means, derived from the living things living on the planet in question.
