I was scrolling on tik tok yesterday and there was a post about someone's favourite celebrity's that are in the LGBTQ+ I scroll through them watching and saw an ace person which I thought was cool, so I went on the comments..

First thing I saw was "Asexuals aren't apart of the LGBT" then there was more going to "being asexual is a myth" etc etc just more acephobic comments across this tik tok.

I've always felt Tik tok is hateful towards aces, every post mentioning ace is just hateful. As you can see from my previous posts where I showcased a bunch of comments from Tik Toks being acephobic.

When I was first finding out asexual, I was searching the whole meaning of the LGBTQ+ like what the letters stand for. It came to A and it went "a is for allies" this was some years ago about 8-10 years ago but at the time I remember just saying something like no silly it's asexual and aromatic.

But I don't know just the lack of understanding we get from people is frustrating. Sorry just needed to rant this out my head.

Stonewall's Ace in the UK report is out, and a really worthwhile read about asexual people's experiences in various settings, and additionally, guidance on ways policy could be improved, if you're interested in asexual rights and politics.

Your validity isn't based on alternate universe versions of yourself. Your identity can come from your circumstances, even dark circumstances, and they're still valid. If someone is ace but they used to be allo before trauma, they're still ace, they still don't experience sexual attraction. If someone is enby because of living in a society with oppressive roles for their assigned gender, they're still nonbinary, they still identify the way that they do. You aren't bound by versions of yourself in other timeliness.

Imagine whenever you eat, you can't taste anything. You can see the food, and you think it looks delicious, and it smells delicious, and you like looking at it and smelling it, and you still occasionally feel hungry so you eat, but you can't taste any of it.

And you don't realize that the people around you also can't taste until one day someone asks you which taste you prefer: chicken or steak?

You don't know. You've never tasted either in your life. But you think both look great and smell great and have nice if different textures, so you say "both."

That satisfies people for a while. Sometimes you try to branch out and explain that actually, everything tastes the same to you so you like all kinds of meat; that usually gets you met with "so you like both chicken and steak" or "there's only chicken and steak so you don't have to say you like everything", which ignores literally every other type of meat but you drop it because it's not worth the argument.

You don't get it most of the time. People talk all the time about how good things taste. There's enormous posters of food hung up in malls and ads feature very good looking food to sell other things. It's pretty but you don't understand why people are so heavily influenced by it, why people say it makes their mouth water and they get excited when they see a delicious meal.

Then one day you're reading stuff online, and you find out that actually, there are other people who also cannot taste. It's like something clicks in place and you finally have an answer for that damn question.

So the next time someone asks you "chicken or steak" you reply "neither, I can't taste."

People don't seem to like that answer. They start saying things like "don't be silly, everyone can taste" and "you just haven't found the right dish yet" and "I think you're just afraid to eat". Sometimes they're just hurtful, "of course you'd say that you can't taste, not when you look like that" or "this is just one of those trends" or "you're not better than me because you don't like to eat".

So eventually, you just say "I like chicken" and leave it at that.
