Zootopia/TMNT Crossover Fic Fanfiction Idea
Yup!
You read that right! My dad and I rewatched Zootopia recently and it struck me how interesting it would be if the Hamatos lived in the world of Zootopia!
I like the idea of using the Japanese word for family, Kazoku, as the title for this idea, but I’m still on the fence about that. I’d love suggestions! (Something found family-esque since that’s the main theme of this idea.)
In the meantime, let me explain how this crossover with some ideas I have!
I will be going through the events of Zootopia, but from the perspective of the Hamatos, and I am including my TMNT OCs, Asami, and Lupa.
If you need a refresher or haven’t seen my TMNT OCs, Here is a bio for them! I love these girls so much!
Anyway, the Hamatos will not be vigilante ninjas in this AU (unless I can think of an excuse to do so but really there’s no reason, so...) because there isn’t an intense clan rivalry or need for them to fight anyone, really. Just competition between Ninjutsu dojos with Oroku Saki heading a rival dojo (which may or may not be dealing with the mafia but I haven’t totally figured that part out yet).
I love the idea of Splinter running a Ninjutsu dojo cus I cannot think of Splinter without thinking of ninjutsu.
Tang Shen is alive cus she deserves it and Splinter needs some help raising 6 kids! XD She is their mother and loves them so much!
Splinter and Tang Shen are about the size of Mr. Big, and they have a house that can fit their kids with a system of ramps, platforms, and tubes so they can get around easier and not be underfoot on the ground.
The turtles are the same species as they are in Rise, but slightly less chaotic in personality since they aren’t raised in isolation in the sewers. But their personality will be sort-of a mix of 2003 and Rise. Or at least, that’s what I’m aiming for. We’ll see how this goes.
Splinter himself is based mostly on the 2003 Splinter since I prefer him over Rise Splinter and it fits my ideas better.
The kids know Ninjutsu, but don’t really use it too often, just for some friendly sparring.
Since they’re not also a team of vigilantes in this crossover, there’s less sibling rivalry between Leo and Raph.
Splinter and Tang Shen adopt the kids, obviously, the turtles first after seeing them homeless on the street as young kids, then a year or so after that adoption is finalized, Splinter loses one of his good friends who happens to be a wolf, and there was no one to step up and take care of Asami and Lupa, the only children of Splinter’s friend, so Splinter and Tang Shen decide to adopt the girls.
This is an unusual adoption, given that rats are prey and wolves are predators, but Splinter manages to get custody and legally adopt the girls and things are normal...
Until predators start ‘going savage’, raising tensions between prey and predators.
Would anyone be interested in this fic? I have the prologue written already, but I wanted to gauge interest first!
Let me know!

Asami Nakamura was the wife of Hamato Leonardo
Leo and Asami have five kids before they're married, but Asami died from an accidental murder named Aoi,
Aoi was Asami's brother and he was an accidental murder as well.
Leo was shocked to see his wife's death. And then Aoi was guilty and that was a big part of the motivation of being involved with Asami and Aoi was arrested... Leo was crying over the death of his wife. He then trained students to become masters like his adoptive father Splinter, also known as Hamato Yoshi.

So...Just because I can and you're awesome, these are my TMNT OCs. 😊
The older girl is Asami. She's five years older than the turtles. The little one is Lupa. She's the same age as the turtles. 👍 I drew these pictures back in 2015-16, and still really like how they came out! 😁
Asami is Hamato Yoshi's daughter, and Lupa is the puppy Asami had gotten for her fifth birthday. 😅 This is for the 2012 Nickelodeon TMNT series.
They're also in the 2003 universe, but they're a bit different in that universe. 🙂
Thanks for those lovely words! ♥️♥️♥️ You're awesome!!

So I know this isn't the best quality but I drew this mini comic of Asami finding her future self in an alley at the start of the movie! 😁 I'm kinda proud of this ngl! Low-key wanna redesign Asami's armor (mystic armor she summons with Nin Po when she needs it) but idk. 🤔 I was going for a Japanese look but I don't think I succeeded. Anyway, hope you like it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then this is a preview picture for the aftermath fic I drew of Future Asami and Asami sleeping after the events of the movie. 😊
Hope y'all like em! 👍

Also, I’m gonna post some comics about how she fits into this universe soon so stay tuned!

(I guess just picture this GiF as Leo talking to Asami, ok? I couldn’t find a better GiF! T^T)
“Hey Leo?”
The question itself wasn’t what surprised Leo as he reclined on the couch.
No, it was the way Donnie seemed genuinely worried about something. Donnie rarely ever showed emotions (at least, in front of his family), so it seemed rather serious if Donnie was fiddling with his fingers, even going so far as to bite his lip.
“Uh...yeah, D?” Leo replies.
“Can you go talk to Ami?” Donnie asks. “She was supposed to help me mine the junkyards, but no one’s seen her out of her room since the training run…”
Leo flicked his phone up to check the time. “I don’t see the need for concern, Donald. It’s only been...wait…” There was no way it was already four hours past when they got home, right?
How long had he been sitting on this couch?!
“Yeah, so if you could go talk to her that’d be great!” Donnie presses.
Leo sighs and gets up.
He was a bit worried, actually. Normally, Asami was rarely in her room if her siblings and/or Splinter were in the main area.
And certainly not for hours.
He did his traditional knock and waited.
“...c’min.” Came a small, almost listless version of his older sister’s voice that had Leo opening the door as quick as he could without startling her.
“Hey, Hermana.” He greets, noticing the lights were out except for Asami’s wax warmer.
That wasn’t good.
Next thing he noticed was Asami laying on her bed on her side, scrolling on her phone with borderline unseeing eyes.
What could possibly be so wrong? Leo thinks grimly as he walks over to her.
“Hey, Leon.” She murmurs, sighing and locking her phone to give Leo her attention.
“What’s up? You look like someone killed your pet.” He jokes lamely.
Asami’s lips curve up a fraction, but nothing more. She lets herself fall onto her back with another sigh.
“I don’t know. It’s just been an off day.” She replies, fiddling with the corner of her pillowcase.
“Ok, so what? You’re gonna mope around in, uh, your room all night?” He asks, barely refraining from calling her room a ‘gloomy cave’.
Something told him that would’ve been the wrong move.
“It’s just...well, uh...myperiodsucksrightnowandIdon’twanttodrageveryonedownwithmymoping.” She confesses in a rush and it takes Leo a second to process what she said.
“Oh. Well, you know, you just gotta go with the flow.”
As soon as he said it, though he carefully maintained his amused face, he prayed he didn’t make things worse with a really bad pun.
Surprisingly, Asami chuckled. “You did not just turn my pain into a pun.” She shakes her head. “Only you.”
“Yeah, but I only do it...periodically.”
Asami loses it at that joke, laughing harder than even she thought she would. “Leo, seriously? Oh my gosh you’re a dork!”
The two share a laugh and Leo feels like he accomplished his mission.
Or...had he? He’d just thought of another pun.
“Why don’t we go watch a movie?” He suggests. Asami nods.
“Yeah. Let’s go get some ice cream and- -”
“A nice period drama.” Leo interjects, unable to wait for Asami to ask what kind of movie he wanted to watch.
“That’s it! Get back here, you...you jerk!” Asami is laughing too hard to really give chase and Leo was in the same boat. So it was that Donnie was greeted to wild laughter followed by his older sister and younger ‘twin’ brother running past him cackling like crazy.
Donnie smiles, shaking his head.
He’d noticed Asami had been really moody lately, and had run some sneaky tests and found out precisely what was wrong, so he went ahead and called in backup, making up a lie about needing to go scavenge some junkyards to get Leo to go check on her.
Somehow, Leo always brought back his sister’s cheery, upbeat personality.
Donnie would have to learn that science one day...

GUYS LLLOOOOKKK!!!
Edit (cus apparently Tumblr didn't save changes to this post. 🙄): This fantastic art is from @tmnt-fangurl who is super sweet and worked with me on my TMNT OC, Asami Hamato's design! So sorry I didn't catch the lack of credit before now!
Anyway, this is in the 2003 universe, and she's helping Don on his latest project. She may not be as smart as Donnie but she can help him out. 😊
She looks awesome and so does Donnie!

Summary: Join Asami, Lupa, and the other Hamatos through season 1 of the '03 series. Asami will learn more about her forgotten past, face her father's old enemy, make new friends and enemies, and get into all kinds of crazy situations with her unusual family. I’m also tagging @tmnt-incorrect cus they’re super awesome! Hope you don’t mind! And @cclkestis cus I happened to ramble to them about these OCs and I asked if they wanted to be tagged and they said yes. :)
Finally, a huge thank you to @fluidfoxwritting123 for supporting this series! :D
I know I keep the OCs’ background a mystery beyond the teaser at the beginning, but that's on purpose. All shall be revealed later! Just hang tight! In the meantime, please enjoy!
Speaking of the origin teaser, I did tweak it a bit then went back and tweaked stuff so it should flow even better and it's not in the past tense (if I did it right). Anyway, I'm revamping this story, then I will continue on into new episode insertions!
Last thing I’m going to say is, if you like my writing, please consider buying me a ko-fi, or if you want, you can continuously support me writing this or other stories by joining my Patreon!
I hope you guys like this story!

(Couldn’t find a better ‘title gif’ lol)
The little girl sniffled, tears in her eyes. She was only five years old. And she was alone.
How could she have known that her foster father was a scientist that had such cute animals in his workplace?
Then those scary alarms had gone off, frightening the poor girl so badly that she bolted right out of the building, assuming she was in trouble for sneaking away from her foster father to play with those puppies.
Doesn't matter now...she couldn't go back. Her new father would never want her now. She was a thief, noticing the puppy in her arms only after stopping when she stumbled into the sewers. She didn't know what to do, and was nearly on the verge of panic. She had nowhere to go now. She was alone. And she was scared.
And that was before she heard the van careening down the road.
That van, searching the streets for her no doubt, was the reason she was cowering further into the sewers, clinging to the puppy that she'd accidentally stolen. She hadn't gone as far as she had hoped from her daddy's work...
She then flinches as a jar containing the cutest little turtles fell, but she barely caught it. Then...another canister, this one containing some kind of weird glowing ooze, fell on top of the jar as the young startled girl screams and dives off the platform, landing in the water. In her blind dash, however, she had dropped the turtles, the canister, and the puppy.
When she came up, the turtles, as well as the puppy, were now sitting in a puddle of the ooze and broken glass from the canister and jar the turtles had been in.
She starts climbing back up to get the pets back, only to jump as a rat crawled over her feet. She watches, intrigued and weirded out, as the rat attempted to get the turtles into a can, seeming to eye the puppy warily.
She decides to help the rat, scooping up the puppy and wiping the ooze off of it before wiping her hands off on her shirt and carefully picking the turtles up so the rat could get the ooze of itself, placing them in the can before picking the can up in her free arm. Not sure what else to do, the girl follows the little rat to what looked like a burrow of sorts.
She had then simply curled up on the floor in front of it, sobbing herself to sleep at the drastic turn of events she wouldn't remember, as fate would have it.
Her young scared mind, coupled with a painful mutation overnight, lost much of her memory.
All the girl knew for certain was that her name was Asami, and that she had once been human, even if she couldn't remember much else of her time before the mutation.
She found herself content, however. She had a new family, growing up with them and training in the art of a Kunoichi, the female ninja. Though curious some time to time, she was largely happy to leave things as they were.
She didn't need to know all the gritty details of her past. She was perfectly content with her new family.

(1st person Asami's PoV)
Training has gone from fun to boring since my father, Master Splinter, made me start simply watching him train the others. They were getting close to my level, and I hadn't sparred with Sensei in a few days.
I want so badly to test my skill again, but Sensei said there were other lessons for me to learn. I know he's teaching me to teach my siblings, but I felt I already knew what Sensei did like the back of my hand. After all, it's not like Sensei's methods for my siblings were that different than what he did for me, right?
"Remember, to be a true ninja, you must become one with the shadows. Darkness gives the ninjas power, while light reveals the ninja's presence." Sensei explains, holding a lit candle out for my siblings to try and extinguish, by the looks of it. "Now...can you extinguish this flame, without revealing yourselves?" Father asks, flipping the candle from it's position on the tip of his walking stick, to in his hand without letting it go out.
Called it. I smirk, leaning against the wall, out of the way. I was already done with my own training for the day.
Donatello tries the assigned task first by simply leaping over the candle. Or that's what I assume he was trying to do. Regardless, Sensei simply leaned out of the way, leaving poor Don to slide a few feet, colliding with the wall. Ouch...
"Too noisy, Donatello." Sensei admonishes, gazing at his second youngest son with fondness.
I chuckle.
Next was Mikey and Lupa, rushing him at the same time. Again, I smirk. Always acting together, those two. They tried the same thing Donnie had tried, but this time, Sensei stood, and tripped his youngest son and daughter with his legs as they ran past. They collide with Don, letting out a round of grunts and complaints.
Sensei returned the candle to its position right in front of him. "Too clumsy, Michelangelo. Mind your footwork, Lupa."
Raphael is next, simply rushing his master and father, jumping over him, landing with a few small hops.
Sensei stands instantly, looking around cautiously, trying to pinpoint his son's location. Raph tries again, but this time Sensei was ready for him. He stuck out his foot, and within seconds, Raph was tangled in the growing pile of masks, weapons, and limbs in front of the far wall.
"Poor choice, Raphael." Sensei calls sternly. I look up and see Leonardo, already in position above our father.
I smile. He's good.
Leo drops down, katana out and slicing before he hit the ground. He flips, catching the half of the candle he had sliced off on the flat of his blade, blowing it out quickly.
Sensei flicks the light on with his stick to erase the sudden darkness, and Leo can't contain the smirk on his face.
"Well done, Leonardo." Father praises.
"Teacher's pet." Raph growls. Leo still held the half of the candle, which he then threw at Raph, who caught it without looking at it.
"Ninja drop-out." Leo counters. Raph growls and squeezes the candle into a waxy mess in his hand.
I roll my eyes. These two were at it again...
This was a regular occurrence with them, and it was stupid.
"Oooohh!" The younger three of my siblings chuckle as they gather right behind the almost battling pair.
Sensei was quick to put an end to it, however. He thrust his stick between Leo and Raph, earning their attention.
"My sons." he sighs, clutching his forehead in exasperation. "My children, if you are to become true ninjas, you must work harder." That clued us in that this was another lecture, so we assumed kneeling positions in front of our father, me and Lupa at either end of the line. "Your path in life will not be an easy one. The outside world will not be a friendly place for you."
I happen to notice Lupa and Mikey looking at a fly buzzing around them, so I subtly catch Lupa's attention, sending her a glare and shaking my head slightly. Lupa stills, refocusing on Sensei immediately. Mikey, however, kept looking at that insect. "You six are different in ways that the surface world would never understand." Sensei continued, unheeding as of yet the distant student near the end of the line.
Thankfully, Mikey at least tried to pay attention, having been nudged by Lupa. But the fly flew into his line of sight again, causing him to get distracted. Again. "To survive, you must master these skills I teach you. Ninjitsu powers of stealth and secrecy. You must become Kage, shadow warriors. And you must never be discovered by the outside world. " He concludes, as Mikey finally caught the fly, clapping it between his hands.
That did it.
Sensei looks sternly at his youngest son, who quails visibly at being caught under Sensei's direct gaze. Before Sensei could even open his mouth to reprimand his wayward student, however, the ground shakes so violently, chunks of ceiling and wall come loose. We all look around in confusion.
"What is that noise?" Sensei asks above the rumbling of the stones around us.
"W-whoa! Earthquake!" Mikey cries, and Lupa agrees.
"Which sucks, since we're underground!"
Donnie, however, looks thoughtful. "An earthquake in New York, though?" He asks no one in particular. "Possible, but not likely."
"Details, details, Don. Look out!" I exclaim, grabbing his shell and pulling him out of the way of a collapsing piece of either wall or ceiling.
"Sorry, Ami." He mumbles sheepishly, as these tiny, armless, cyclops T-rex-looking robots come crashing through the wall. We all gasp and draw our weapons en masse.
"What are those things?" Leo asks.
"New york city cockroaches?" Mikey quips.
"Heard they've been a problem lately." Lupa adds wryly.
"Focus, you two." I growl, ready to attack.
"Whatever they are, they picked the wrong party to crash!" Raph growls, running forward and slicing the first few ones to come within range.
With that, the fight commenced. I slash, slice, and bash the bots left and right, and that's when I notice the direction that they're trying to head...
Toward Master Splinter, as if that was the only thing they saw.
The shell? Confused, I decide to just keep destroying these things as fast as I could. I then run over to Master Splinter, who is still battling these metal menaces, destroying any I came across.
Leo turns, seeing me and Sensei back to back, combating the frankly overwhelming number of robots. The rest of the group finally catches on, and come to our aid, but even that wasn't enough. They fail to notice a couple of bots chewing out the support beams.
In fact, we all did until it was too late. Before anyone could stop them, the ceiling collapsed, nearly killing me, burying me beneath the rubble.
One chunk hit my head, and I was out like a light.
=#=#=#=#=
I wake slowly, head pounding fit to burst and unable to move. Then, the harsh sound of stone grinding stone reaches my ears, and I am pulled quickly out into the small compartment formed by the rubble surrounding us.
"Are you alright Asami?" Sensei asks, hands still supporting me. I cough the dust out of my lungs before responding.
"Yeah. How about you?" He only has time to nod in response before his shell-cell starts ringing. He pulls it out. I offer to answer it, but Sensei holds up a paw, stopping me.
Shrugging, I lean back against the chunks of concrete behind me. Sensei, not being the most technologically advanced person on the planet, presses a few buttons, asking himself which button you have to press to answer the phone.
I can hear Leo trying to tell Master Sensei that he had already answered it on the other line, but Dad apparently can't hear him.
I just sit here, highly amused and suddenly not willing to ruin this moment. This was just getting good.
"Hello?" Sensei called into the Shell-Cell, either not hearing or ignoring Leo's response of 'Master Splinter? Are you and Asami alright?'
"Yep. Though Sensei seems to have forgotten how to work his Shell-Cell." I call loudly.
"Oh. Uh, could you-ugh. Never mind." Leo's voice comes back as he realizes that Sensei wasn't going to ask for help, or take any that was offered.
He sighs as Dad keeps trying to 'answer' his phone. Finally, Leo ran out of patience with our hilariously technologically-challenged father.
"Master Splinter, you don't have to push any buttons. You already answered it." Somehow, this time Sensei got the message.
"Ah. Leonardo, whatever those mechanical menaces are, they have managed to eat through the support structure of our home. We must leave right away."
I hear shuffling and assume that everyone was gathering around, trying to listen in, so I start looking around, trying to find a way out. The sooner we could regroup, the better.
"Meet us at the old drainage junction on South Point." Master Splinter continues.
"If we take the south conduit, it'll intersect with the old drainage tunnel." Donnie muses, to Leo if I had to guess.
"We'll meet you guys over there, Sensei." Leo replies, relieved now we had a plan, and hangs up.
"Hey, Sensei, I found a way out!" I call from the far end of the hole in the ruble. I had found a small tunnel-like break in the concrete blocks.
We crawled through quickly and stood, dusting ourselves off.
The way to the South Junction was relatively clear. We did have to take a few detours, but we soon found ourselves at the proper junction...
With the boys nowhere in sight. Figures.
We both sigh at the same time.
"I'll go find them." I said, and took off after Sensei's nod of agreement.
I run out into the south junction tunnel, where my siblings should have been. But instead of five mutants walking along toward me, I am greeted with a collapsed tunnel and a sense of foreboding.
Please tell me they didn't go up top! Please, please, please, let them have found another way around somehow, but not up-top!
I think as I sniff around on the other side of the rubble, and find a scent that leads...directly over to the ladder.
Why oh why do they never listen to Dad and I warning them about the surface?
I shake my head and sigh, even as I haul myself up onto the ladder and start climbing.
I find myself on a street, with my brothers standing across the way.
"Imagine their surprise when they open that truck!" Mikey was saying as I sprint over.
"Wait...who's surprise when they open what truck?" I ask, arms crossed and eyebrow raised.
Everyone flinches, startled to see me, which was never a good sign.
"Uh.." Leo stutters. "W-when did you get here, sis?"
"Just now. Now answer my question." I retort.
"Oh, Raph hid inside the truck that these thugs were using, right before they took off." Lupa chuckles.
"Oh, okay..." I reply automatically. Then, it hit me. "He did what?!"
"Doesn't matter now." Leo snaps. "This is exactly what Master Splinter was talking about. We've got to get him out of there." Leo orders as we move toward the roof.
"Last one to the roof hatched from a rotten egg!" Don cries as he vaults up.
"Hey!" Me and Lupa call back indignantly.
"Sorry, sisses!" Don replies as I joined him. We all run over to the edge of the roof in time to see a van (the one I had seen pulling away as I came up the ladder), roaring down the street.
"We can cut them off at Third and First!" Leo notes.
I run a quick check, estimating times and leaps already in my head, and come to the following conclusion:
"If we run like crazy!" Me and Don reply together. It would take some serious huffing and puffing, but we should be able to make it.
"Is there any other way to run?" Mikey and Lupa chirp, again in synch.
Leo just stares at them. "You guys have got to stop that!" He cried, even as he turned shell and started running after the truck. Lu and Mikey make this run more of a competition somehow, and gain a little ground on us. Me, Leo, and Don flip extravagantly over a roof, landing in front of the two cocky young mutants.
After a few more roof jumps, and giggles at Lupa and Mikey's attempts at catching back up, we find the pair flat on their butts, Lupa with a bra over her head, and Mikey with a sheet draped over him.
"Springtime fresh!" They cry, sniffing the clothing.
"Come on!" I cry as I run. The pair caught up to us quickly and we continue running, and running, and running.
After what seems like hours of running around, we stop as the truck finally pulls into a parking lot of some abandoned warehouse. We stand on the rooftop surrounding a sort of courtyard, panting. We watch as only one of the four or so thugs was left to guard the truck, the others going inside, joking with each other about the money they'd stolen and their victim.
Now that we weren't outnumbered, we descend to the ground quietly, choosing hiding places carefully.
Lupa kicks a can to get the guard's attention while Mikey runs and grabs a piece of paper.
He then taps the overweight thug on the shoulder. "Hey!" He murmurs, earning the man's complete attention. "This is a no-parking zone." Mikey continues wryly, "Here's your ticket," He holds up that small piece of paper. "and here's your fine!" Mikey finishes, and high-kicks the man's head into the van. We come out oh hiding as Leo congratulates the pair.
"It's a ninja thing." Mikey replies with a grinning Lupa leaning on his shoulder.
I smile at the pair. Like two peas in a pod, you rarely found one without the other. It's adorable.
"Now, let's get Raph out of there." Leo orders, and we all turn to face the truck. I stand nearby, arms crossed, sighing at the stupid turtle trapped inside the van. I then look down, expecting to find a traditional pad-lock keeping the doors closed, but am disappointed with a larger, more high-tech lock.
"Man..." Mikey groans, "Whatever happened to good old-fashioned padlocks?!"
"Yeah..." Lupa mutteres sourly, glaring at the lock like she wants to melt it.
"They went out of fashion." I joke as Don drew two screwdrivers out of his bag and twirls them around, mimicking Raph with his sai effectively.
"Besides, where's the fun in that?" Don asks rhetorically. "This baby's all mine!" Don chuckles smugly, stepping over to the lock, and kneeling down.
I turn toward the doorway the thugs had gone through to keep a lookout as Don works on the lock, grimacing at Raph's muffled cries and grunts as he tried to bust his way out.
Honestly, it was a miracle that no one noticed him...
"What's that Raphael?" Mikey taunts. "I can't hear you." He adds in a sing-song voice.
"I can't either, bro. You gotta use your outside voice!" Lupa giggles into her hand. Raph growled extra loud and gave the door an extra hard hit in impatience.
Mikey takes a step back. "Okay. We heard that."
"Not what I meant by 'outside voice', Raph, but it works! Wonder what made ya think to smash the door again?" Lupa adds, again leaning on her brother's shoulder.
"Dunno. But I think he thought it would work!" Mikey replies happily, and the pair fall about giggling.
"I'm trying to work here." Don grumbles, effectively crushing the humorous atmosphere.
"Oh, come on, Don. You've worked in worse conditions before." I chuckle. Then, all is quiet in the courtyard as Don finally finishes pick-locking the doors.
The lock clicks a few times before opening slowly.
"Hey, Raph!" Mikey cries, Lupa right beside him, their arms out wide as if to receive a hug from the angry red turtle. "Glad to have you back, bro!"
Raph responds with a grunt as he tackles his two annoying siblings, wrestling them to the ground.
Well, Raph was mainly wrestling Mikey, with a worried Lupa attempting to rescue her helpless brother. So far, it wasn't working.
"What a hot-head." Leo sighs, then flinches as the sounds of pain increase.
I sigh and roll my eyes before returning to watching for the thugs.
Hey, waittaminute...where's that fat thug Mikey knocked out? He should still be laying right...uh-oh!
I think to myself, gazing around and seeing the three or more thugs from the van coming out from the warehouse, the fat one last, still rubbing his head ruefully. I back up, and bump into Leo, who then gazes over my shoulder.
"Uh, Raph?" Don called, Mikey and Lupa continuing to cry out as Raph kept up his assault.
"We don't have time for this!" Leo exclaims, drawing his katana as I draw my tomahawks. We back up as the thugs advance. Raph is now holding Mikey against the pillar and is drawing his fist back threateningly. Lupa's grabbing the fist as Raph turns, glaring at Leo.
"And why not?" He asks hotly.
"Because we're not alone." Mikey replies, noticing the thugs. Lupa whirls and draws her double-scythe quickly, getting into a defensive stance before I could blink.
"Look at the freaks!" One thug taunts.
"What's with the dweeby costumes?" Asks another.
"This ain't Halloween." Another notes, laughing.
I narrow my eyes. Isn't it obvious we're not wearing costumes?
"You're going down, freaks!" The apparent leader calls, twirling a staff like this wasn't his first time using it. "Nobody messes with the Purple Dragons, especially wearing stupid animal costumes!" The leader continues.
"Deja-vu, Don." I quip, nodding at the man with the staff. Don just glares at me.
I now notice several other thugs, joining the first four.
I gulp.
This could be bad...this could be very bad. We charge anyway and beat the thugs into a pile with relative ease. Guess Sensei's training really does work!
We then smirk, standing over the thugs and brandishing our weapons.
"Let's get outta here!" The leader cries and all the thugs beat a hasty retreat.
"Gimme some green and brown!" Mikey exclaims happily, holding his hands up to both Lupa and Raph, who high-three-d and four-ed him.
"Well, that was easier than expected." Don notes.
"Yeah..." I agreed. "Crap. We just jinxed it, didn't we?" I add sourly.
"I dunno, sis. I kinda hope there are more of those guys. I was just getting started." Raph growls, twirling his weapons with an almost maniacal grin on his face.
"Uh, well, looks like you got your wish, Raphie-boy!" Mikey replies, pointing to the rooftop.
Then, the hairs on the back of my neck tingled as I look up to find shadowy figures standing where we had been standing not too long ago.
"Eep!" I squeak as the ninjas leap down, much like we had done, and assumed stances we had been reviewing this very evening.
I gulp. "Are those guys...ninjas?" Leo and I ask in synch, as we're quickly and thoroughly surrounded by a wall of black clothing.
"Jynx." I mutter to myself, and resume the stance I had just dropped, gripping my tomahawks in readiness.
"Well, they're certainly ninja-esque!" Mikey retorts wryly.
"Be ready...for anything." Leo orders, leaning back to make sure we heard him.
"I am so gonna enjoy this." Raph growls gleefully.
"Of course you would." I reply, unable to help a quip despite the serious situation.
"Hey! I am, too!" Lupa whines.
I roll my eyes.
Don then vaults over several ninjas, landed in a crouch, and spun their legs out from under them before the ninjas knew what had hit them. He stood as I batted away at my own group. They were down for the count in less than a minute.
Two got past me and charged Don, but they weren't a problem for him. However, the ninjas we had just beaten got up, and resumed fighting. Three or more landed in a semi-circle around Raph, and he was left to dodge their attacks.
"Hey, sweet Dragon Kick. He-he, nice Double Phoenix Punch." Raph said, dodging the very moves he was naming. "Hey, know this one?" He asked, before spin kicking the poor ninjas away.
"Raph, we're here to fight them, not comment on their moves!" I call. "Focus!"
"Sorry, sis. Got carried away." Raph replies, shrugging.
Not far away, Leo was engaging a katana-wielding ninja, knocking him aside and flipping away from the remaining ones. He lands with a slight grimace on the first rooftop ring around the courtyard. I flip up, as well, landing on one of the multiple ninjas that advanced on Leo.
One landed out of my reach, and ran along the wall, slicing at Leo as he passed by. I charge as Leo knocks him back a few feet.
I was by Leo's side in an instant, but was knocked down by a powerful kick almost as soon as I get there. I land harshly in the middle of a small gathering, and flip up instantly, managing to knock a few ninjas out as I land. I was soon overwhelmed, and kicked back into the van, along with Donnie and Mikey.
I rub my rib cage where I had gotten kicked, but stand, ready to continue.
"Don..are we beating them, or are they beating us?" Mikey asks fearfully, and I saw more ninjas appear around us, advancing menacingly. Then they reach into their clothes, drawing out shurikens and throwing them with deadly accuracy.
I gasp, and reached for the van's door handle, wrenching it open and diving inside, even as Don does the same. He also grabs Mikey and hauls him inside, closing the door just before we were impaled. It was stuffy in here, but thankfully we are clear to open the door a few seconds later.
I leap out, and everyone got out with me. Raph, Lupa and Leo join us as the ninjas gather around us, ready to attack.
"Ask me again when we're winning, Mikey." Don replies in as fearful a tone as Mikey had used.
"Yeah...That's what I thought." Mikey mutters, spying the shurikens that had almost had our heads.
"Don...hot-wire this thing!" I murmur to my genius brother, realizing there was no winning this fight if more and more ninjas kept showing up. "We need a ride out of here!"
"How many'a dese goons do we gotta beat before dey got da hint?" Raph asks rhetorically.
"Really." Mikey whined. "They just keep coming."
"Time to switch to plan B." Leo grumbles. He turns to look at the van. "Donatello?"
"Almost there, Leo." Don replies quickly, tapping two wires together, and the van starts up. "This bus now leaving for...anywhere-but-here!" He said as he sits up and closes the driver-side door.
Raph and Lupa still look ready to fight, so Leo and I sheathed our weapons. I grab my sister's mask tails, and Leo grabs Raph's shoulder.
"Come on!" Leo ordered over the sound of the truck before I could utter one syllable. "We're leaving!" Don pressed the gas pedal to the floor, and we leap into the back and close the doors swiftly as the van careens away from the ninjas.
It's a bumpy ride, to put it gently. We're tossed around like rag dolls while trying to stay on the back seats. It wasn't working.
"Nice driving, Don!" Mikey grumbles sarcastically. "For a turtle with no license!"
"Hey, you want pretty? Or you want effective?" Don retorts wryly.
"Would both be too much to ask?" I snap, gripping the edge of my seat as the van continues to bounce. I roll my eyes. I suppose beggars can't be choosers... "Nevermind." I huff, crossing my arms before having to grab hold of something to steady myself. It was no good. I got tossed up and ended up on my butt on the floor of the van.
"I gotta tell yah...this has been one mundo-bizzaro day." Mikey notes as he's bounced about.
"Night, really." Lupa points out wryly.
"Whatever, Lu-Lu." Mikey replies, sticking his tongue playfully at his sister. "Anyway, first there were all those metal things underground, and—what's with all those ninjas?" He asks sullenly, leaning back to try and stabilize himself. "Ninjas in New York City, besides us? It's just not right!"
"There's nothing that prohibits them." I muse, frowning in thought. "What I wanna know is why they attacked us without any apparent reason."
"Talk about not right." Raph growls, picking up one of the many duffel bags. He unzips it to find that it was stuffed with cash. I blink. That was a ton of money. Whoa...that poor victim... "Check this out." He calls, dumping the cash unceremoniously onto the floor.
Mikey and Lupa immediately grab a wad in each hand, gleeful expressions almost maniacal. "Show me the money, baby! Wha—whoo!" They cry joyfully.
I sigh. Immature as always...
I grab the money from the young mutants' hands, stuffing the wads back into the bag with the rest of the stash.
"Hey, Don. Cop alert! Stop real quick so we can give the money back." I call to the front, grabbing the bags as the van slowed to a halt.
"Alright, but we gotta make this quick!" Don replies, looking over the seat at me. "We don't know if those ninjas are following us." He gulps, face slightly drained of color. "Oh, and Sensei's still expecting us."
I blanch a little. Oh, shoot!
"Noted." I reply, and Leo grabbed another couple of bags. Leo rolls his window down.
"Take care of this money, will yah guys?" We call, chucking all the bags out onto the windshield of the cop car.
"Thanks!" I add as Leo rolls the window back up, and Donnie heads toward the rough location of the South Junction. We end up having to go around a building and smashing through a gate in an alley to get back into the sewers, but I felt relief fill me as...
Wait...why are there holes in the ground? What happened? What did I miss? Oh, no... There's bits of those weird metal things all over the ground!
Yikes! I leap out and sprint over to Sensei, hugging him fiercely. I am quickly followed by the rest of my siblings and we basically dog-pile our poor dad.
We let go, smiling, relieved to be back with Sensei in the sewers.
"I am glad to see you, too, my children." Sensei chuckles once he recovered a little from the family hug.
"Sensei, so much has happened." Leo tells him excitedly.
"That's an understatement." Lupa and I reply, giggling. It was quite the adventure.
"Yes, yes. There will be time to tell me all about it later, Leonardo." Sensei replies fondly, smiling at all of us. He knew Leo was usually the one that loved recounting our adventures the most. He always told it so well, it made me sort of jealous, really. "But first, I wish to take you all home." Sensei continues, walking toward one of the holes in the ground. I cock a brow. What did Sensei mean? It took a second for it to sink in. Oh. Sensei...wait...Sensei already found a new home?! How?! What happened while we were gone?!
"Home?" Mikey repeats, confused.
"We got no home. Those robots trashed our pad, remember Sensei?" Raph adds, kicking a metal head away sourly. Sensei just smiles and continues walking.
"Do not worry. I think I have found a solution to our current housing problem." Knew it. "Follow me, children." He calls, leaping down. I frown, but do am I am told.
I end up on my butt on some wild, impromptu slide of a dried tunnel, careening toward the bottom. Leo and Don came tumbling on my heels.
"Not funny Raph!" I hear Mikey scream as he came sliding after Don and Leo. I smile, stumbling as I landed on the floor of a larger sewer tunnel, like the one we used to live in. I then have to leap toward Sensei as the rest of the mutants came crashing into the floor, landing in a pile of limbs, shells, and fur. They one by one extracted themselves, groaning and maddasing mistreated muscles.
I shake my head, smiling. Some things never change.
"Wicked slide!" Mikey chirps, ever the optimist.
"Let's do that again!" Lupa adds.
"No!" Everyone grumbles. Mikey eagerly runs to catch up to Sensei.
"No offense, Sensei, but this place doesn't seem so great." He muses.
"Mikey!" I snap. He cringes, but Sensei walks on, without a sign of being affected by his son's disrespect. "At least Sensei found something! Geez!"
"I mean, I guess it's okay..." He amended. Lupa had caught up by now and she looks about as thrilled about this place as Mikey.
"It's just that...this is exactly like our old house." Lupa explains tentatively, watching Sensei and I's reaction. I roll my eyes, but find Sensei's lack of response a little weird.
"Look with your heart, and not your eyes, you two." Sensei instructs, still smiling.
I frown. Was this our home? Didn't seem like it. It seems like Sensei was waiting until we got to a certain point.
Lupa and Mikey just looked at each other, confusion in their eyes. "Um...okay." They scratch their heads.
"And walk this way." Sensei adds patiently. Mikey then bent over and performed an actually fairly good impression of the way Sensei walks.
I shake my head, chuckling as Don whacks Mikey upside the head with his staff.
"You goofball." Lu-Lu chuckles fondly.
"But you love me anyway." Mikey chirps, leaning on his sister's shoulder.
It was no surprise that she thrust him off almost immediately. "Don't push it."
"Come on, you two." I call, chuckling again.
Soon, we come upon an abandoned...cave-like structure that actually looked a bit like some kinda home or station. It was a circular shape (or is it a pentagon? It's hard to tell) with a second floor that ran around the first with a balcony-like hallway that was easy to flip or climb up onto.
This whole area, sadly, is in pretty bad shape, but it's nothing we can't fix up and make an even better home out of than our last one!
Everyone who doubted Sensei, even internally, was forced to eat their words as they look around the vast space.
"I could really tune this space up." Donnie breaths, looking around in awe and wonder.
I smile, leaning on his shoulder. "You mean we will tune this space up. As a family."
"Yeah!" Lupa cries, squealing excitedly. She starts giggling and running around, looking at every little thing, probably mentally picturing how awesome she wanted this place to look.
Mikey was busy calling various spaces as his own, foolishly assuming those claims would actually stick when all was said and done.
"You see my sons, and daughters, change is good." Splinter calls, a clear sign to gather around him.
"Yeah. If those metal things hadn't busted our old pad, we'd still be living in a dead-end tunnel." I point out, crossing my arms casually.
"Wow, sis. That's actually insightful." Lupa replies, laughing as she leans against my shoulder. "I hadn't thought about it like that."
I scoff playfully. "Naturally." I shove her off and move toward Master Splinter.
Leo rolls his eyes but turns to Master Splinter. "We couldn't agree more, Master Splinter."
Said rat smirks. "Good. So, let's see you children clean up for a change." He orders with fake grumpiness. We groan. "This chamber is filthy! And do not leave Asami to do everything!"
"Not like we do that...anymore, Sensei!" Lupa grumbles as she kicked a piece of cement away moodily.
"Well...besides with the dishes." I snark, moving a pipe aside.
"Those don't count!" Lupa replies, now in a better mood, picking up a larger piece of cement and tossing it toward the way we had come in. I grab another piece and throw it in the same direction.
"Yeah, they do." This back-and-forth ("Yeah, they do!" "No, they don't!") lasted until we had cleaned up a ten-foot radius of the entrance.
Which was only, like, two minutes, tops. We then dropped it and continued cleaning.
Change is good, I muse. We would still be ignorant of the good we could be doing on the surface world if we had never taken that chance, if we had never leaped out of our comfort zone and gone above our known and familiar world. As usual, Sensei was correct.
This will be a great change to make. As a family.

So I'm all caught up (again) on LFLS and...
I got inspired to draw!
It's not a dump like last time, but I doodled this real quick at work. 👍
Tumblr media
Poor Asami is still recovering from her shock and feels sad and helpless about how to help Leo. 😭
Ok! So I mentioned I've started reading Like Father Like Son, right? Well I was inspired to draw some fanart of Asami if she was in the fic.
The attempted rescue at the Battle Nexus hurt me to read but it was so good! I wanted to draw where Asami would be in that scene so here we are!
(small TW for drawn blood but I did it in pencil.)
Tumblr media
I did make a Tik Tok with this sketch dump if anyone wants to see that. 😅
Like Father Like Son belongs to @eternalglitch who I did ask before posting this and I got their permission since it's their fic and I don't want to overstep. 👍
I also want to tag @fluideli123 cus they have been so sweet and supportive! 😊
Hope y'all like it cus I'm proud of this artwork!
If I get inspired again I might draw more but for now I will leave y'all with this!

For my best friend, @elite-guard-hardygal, who hasn't seen the 2003 TMNT...yet. ;) Go check my galfriend out! They’re awesome!
This is the Link for the first episode insertion for those curious and This is a post I made with more info on Asami and Lupa.
Also tagging @fluidfoxwritting123 cus they are amazing and wonderfully supportive of this fanfic! <3
I have gone back through and tweaked stuff so things should flow better and I tried to make sure it is not in present, not past, tense.
Anyway, if you like my writing, please consider buying me a ko-fi, or if you want, you can continuously support me writing this or other stories by joining my Patreon!
Side note; I did some research on wolves and they do see colors, but can't distinguish reds from yellows and greens very well, but they do have keen eyesight. Just thought that was cool, so I factored that in when coming up with Asami and Lupa! :)
Hope you guys like this episode!
God Bless and Good Day!
~The Lupine Sojourner
Tumblr media
It may have taken a few solid days of work, but this place is amazing! We have the bedrooms and kitchen set up and...uh, okay, so they're not quite lit and working, but we're working on that. Right now, as a matter of fact.
But, hey, we have an indoor pool that leads...well, we haven't really scoped it out yet, but it's wicked. Me and Lupa, after a hard day's work, like to see how far down we can dive before we have to resurface. (So far, she's beaten me by a whopping three inches, apparently, though I swear she just fabricated those numbers.)
Then it's off to bed before another day of electrician work with Don. I'm the only mutant that comes as close as anyone else to Don's intellect. I understood the bare basics (and even that much wasn't perfect) of wiring. Even so, Donnie had to come behind me and carefully explain everything I had done wrong while correcting it. It was both training and helping get this place up and running as a fully operational home. I was fascinated by the process, if not frustrated by the electricity that now had my fur on edge when I made a mistake during the actual wiring. Ugh. Ow! Another shock.
Youch! What did I do wrong this time? I huff and cross my arms. These stupid wires!
"You okay?" Don asks, chuckling from his position several feet along the balcony.
I suck on my finger to try and relieve the tingling.
We really need to turn off the electricity before we mess with the wires...
"Not really." I grumble around my tingling finger.
Donnie shakes his head, bemused, and maneuvers himself over.
He's smiling at me again, like 'what did she do this time?' I don’t appreciate that, Donnie.
"Didn't you see that you were trying to connect a green wire and a yellow wire?"
I sigh. Sometimes, I saw colors a little weird. Especially when I was focused on the task at hand (like now), when I am experiencing times of high stress, or something hit my head pretty hard.
It used to be all the time, coming and going at random before puberty hit and my human side apparently became a bit more prominent and the random changes in color became virtually nonexistent (aside from the conditions I just listed)
Now, I scratch the back of my head, embarrassed. "Not really." I mumble softly, cheeks warm, not meeting my brother's eyes.
Don frowns. He’s on to me. He always is. It's annoying.
"I thought you said the fits didn't come as often."
I frown, crossing my arms in a sour mood. Out of all my siblings, Don was the most concerned about my occasional wonky color vision, which meant testing out various prototype contact lenses that either made the colors so vivid, I got a headache, or they left me with absolutely no color at all. I gave up, telling Don I'd refuse any more lenses he tried to get me to test.
"They were—are!" I retort, adjusting myself in my harness. "It's just...I was really focused. And besides...it looked right."
Don sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I told you to tell me when they happen, Asami."
I pout, not in the mood for a lecture. "I just did. And...you know I hate this. It's stupid. It's just part of being mostly canine. I'd like you to stop monitoring it."
Don huffs, crossing his arms moodily. "I have a feeling you just like being independent."
I sigh. "Right. I do, and this is humiliating for me! It's just...I can't control it, and it feels akin to playing God to try and mess with your body for no reason. Besides, it's not like it's a major drawback."
Don groans.
I had told him all this before, and it never ceased to surprise him somehow. He didn't seem to understand that I don't really care. Sure, I moaned and groaned about it in my youth, perhaps a bit too much...but now...I've accepted it. I've moved on in life, but Don doesn't seem to get that.
I roll my eyes, and go back to wiring, noticing that, yes, those wires are indeed different colors. Frowning, I connect the right wires. Within five minutes, we hear a groan from Mikey.
In sync, we chuckle, forgetting our previous spat as we look down to see what the problem is.
Mikey had stacked about twenty (the actual number was probably less than that but I don't feel like counting) different screens along that one wall. How we were actually supposed to watch anything in any sort of normal capacity with that set-up was beyond me, but Mikey insisted, so I guess we're rolling with it for now.
"What's the matter, Mikey?" Don asks as we repel down to the ground level, unclasping from the harness as soon as our feet touch solid ground. "Can't decide what to watch?"
"Oh, the horror!" I cry in mock despair, throwing my hand to my brow overly-dramatically, sighing to complete the picture.
Mikey stuck his tongue at me. "Haha, Asami. No. I need more power, captain." He explains in a horrid impression of that engineering guy in Star Trek. Scot? Sporty? Something like that... "The Turtle Cave must be set for maximum entertainment potential." I scoff and roll my eyes. Mikey then plugs it all in, and turns it on to test it.
I gasp, wincing as the wave of pure noise set me on my butt. The static noise and light of that many screens and at that high a volume was decidedly not a good idea, Mikey! I groan inwardly, clutching my ears.
"Aw, geez! That...that hurts." I whimper. Static noise was almost like a dog whistle to me. That, and the fact that it was coming from several sources at once only made it that much worse. Just another part of being half-wolf...
Mikey quickly turns the TVs off, concern and worry plastered on his face as he helps me up. "Sorry, Ami! I really didn't...I, uh, here let me..."
I stood, shaking my head, my ears no longer ringing. "Nah, it's fine, bro. Nothin' you can do. It just startled me, is all. I didn't have a warning."
Don hums. "I should have figured that static and white noise would register more for wolves than turtles. Oops."
"It's fine, guys. Just a jump-scare. That's all. Really."
Don smiles, for once not pressing, then turns to Mikey. "Anyway...The 'Turtle Cave'?" Donnie scoffs. "That is so lame."
"Hate to admit it, bro, but Don's right." I chuckle, leaning against a pillar next to our couch, watching as Sensei worked on a training dummy. I had gone with him to get the sand to fill it, and hunted burlap sacks for him to construct it out of. "Nice dummy, Sensei." I note as Mikey smirks.
"'The Shell-ter'?"
I was the one to scoff now, snorting and shaking my head. Those two could get as bad as Leo and Raph over the dumbest things. "Cus that's so much better." I snark, laughing as Mikey stuck his tongue at me again.
Don frown in thought. I face-palm. Were they really doing this? "Uh...how about 'the Sewer of Solitude'?" Don suggested, waving dramatically as I pull a face.
"No way! Hate Superman." I reply.
The boys, apparently, didn't hear me.
"'Terrapin Station'?" Mikey tried.
I sigh. "Lame. And turtles aren't the only species here."
"'The School for Gifted Reptiles'?" I blink. Wow. How nerdy can one turtle be?
"Heck to the no."
Mikey was in his element now, though. "'The Hall of Nin-Justice'?"
"What is wrong with you two?! No!" Though I sounded annoyed and irritated, the smirk on my face betrayed my amusement.
Don and Mikey were glaring at each other as Splinter clears his throat, putting aside the dummy and standing up.
His look was both amused and slightly irritated. Mainly amused, however. "We shall call this place 'Home'." He instructs, and the turtles' faces soften slightly.
"Catchy." Mikey notes, happy.
"A fully operational one, to boot." I add. "Almost."
Mikey giggles, hand over his mouth in a vain attempt to stifle the noise. "Til some lucky X-wing pilot shoots a torpedo into the main reactor."
"Egad!" I groan, throwing my hands in the air. "Is there any reference he will not make?"
"Nope!" Both turtles reply, grinning.
"Figures." I deadpan, then chuckle.
"Now, what is keeping Leonardo, Raphael, and Lupa?" Dad asks, looking around curiously.
I frown. Now that I think about it...he's right. They probably should have been back by now. I mean, as long as there are none of those mechanical menaces around...they should be fine. I hope. Maybe they ran into sewer workers and had to take the scenic route. It's been known to happen.
"They just went to get the last of our old stuff from the Lair." Don explains simply.
I scoff, crossing my arms bitterly. "What's left of that place." I mutter. "Those things sure did a good job over there."
Don runs over to the table he had placed a relatively intact robot on to study. "And, the way the new Sewer-Slider is performing, they should be here any minute now." Donnie continues with a grin.
I walk over, too, frowning distrustfully at the metal pieces. He is far too curious...that thing gives me the heebies-jeebies...
Heedless of my discomfort, Donnie grabs a screwdriver and starts trying to take the foot of the mechanical thing apart. It fizzled, popped, and smokes slightly.
Don blinks in surprise.
I chuckle. "Didn't expect that, did yah?" I snark, hands on hips.
Don frowns at me. "Shut up, Ami." He grumbles as I laugh and tug his mask tail a little. Then frown at the head that still seemed to be eying me, weighing me up.
"Give up on that thing, bro. It's never gonna work again. And besides, it's creeping me out." I note, a shiver racing up my spine. Don taps it dejectedly.
"Your sister is correct, my son. Even though it is inactive, that thing still makes me uneasy, Donatello." Dad mumbles, eying the robotic bits and pieces suspiciously as he walks over.
"You're telling me." I groan, shivering a little.
Donnie sighs. "This is state-of-the-art mechanics, you guys. Brilliant work. I just gotta know what makes it tick."
I sigh, giving up the argument. Leave it to my brother to dissect any and everything that fascinates him. It had taken him a mere hour to take apart the first toaster Sensei and I brought home.
Dad had then told Don to either fix it, or go alone to find a replacement as a lesson in taking responsibility for your mistakes. Donnie was about ten at the time. Of course, I would have shadowed Don had he needed to go get a new toaster, made sure he found his way home and all that, but it would be up to Don to fix what he had done wrong.
Thankfully, he had figured it out...after plenty of trial and error. He had been getting his hands on as many books on mechanics and tools as he could find after that.
"Only you, D..." I sigh trailing off as headlights flood into the Lair.
I smile as the Sewer-Slider swoops in for a landing. Leo and Raph hop off, grinning. Lupa reaches into the mass of things on top of the Slider and pulls off a small cardboard box, twirling it on her fingertips.
"Hey, Mikey! Good news! Our DVD collection survived." She cheers, tossing the box to him.
"Awesome!" The mutant addressed exclaims, giving a wide, goofy grin, and instantly reaching for the TV remote, just as Lu did the same. Mikey stuck his tongue at Lupa when he got to it first. I rolled my eyes. Those two... "Let's throw in something light on story and heavy on gory, cus the Video Monolith is ready to rock and roll!" Mikey then clicks the power button. There was a split second of that accursed white noise, but then a news channel came on, talking about some new invention being unveiled at Stocktronics.
Don'll wanna hear about this. He almost never gets to hear about his role model and slight idol.
"Don! Dr. Stockman's on!" I call.
I hear a thump as whatever tool Don was using clattered to the table. Lupa and Mikey look at each other and, in sync, gag or pretend to yawn at the display.
I, however, was slightly intrigued.
The TV showed a standard testing room with something large under a sheet, with another, slightly smaller, blanket-covered lump near the white-coat-wearing genius himself. There was another scientist in the room, a young woman with red hair back in a ponytail, holding a cardboard box and smiling shyly at the camera as she nervously tucks at her hair. The reporter announced that Dr. Stockman was personally unveiling his newest invention.
"A wise man once said, 'build a better mousetrap, and the door will beat a path to your door'." I frown as Dr. Stockman polishes his glasses with his coat, then smirks at the camera. What did that mean? And who says stuff like that? "Well, I say let the path-beating begin!" As always, I'm amazed that Donnie likes this guy. He was so narcissistic and egotistical, it drove me nuts. "For I, Dr. Baxter Stockman, have designed the solution to the city's ever-growing rat problem." I swallow. Weren't those mechanical things chasing Splinter before? Hadn't they singled him, a giant rat, out when they trashed our last house? I suddenly have a very bad feeling about this...the object Stockman is unveiling is around the same size as those monsters... "Ladies and Gentleman, I give you the ultimate innovation in rodent-terminating technology; the Stocktronic MOUSER!"
I stare in shock! It...it was one of those things that ate our home! That thing is a menace, not a boon! Beside me, Raph growls, tense as a coiled spring, his fingers inching toward his sais.
"I can't believe that the famous Baxter Stockman would try to pass these things off as a good thing." Don muses, holding up the MOUSER head he brought over for no reason. I inch away from it warily, still feeling as if it may activate and attack us again. Mikey reaches over and grabs it. Turning to his younger sister, he used it as a puppet.
"Heh. And what's with those glasses?" He quipped. "Dork city." He mocks, laughing.
I roll my eyes as Don smacked Mikey over the head, Lu chuckling in the background, then leap five feet in the air as Raph slams a sai into one of the TVs.
"Raph! Those TVs don't grow on trees!" I groan, watching as the now shattered screen sparks and crackles.
"I say we go over to Stocktronics and kick some serious shell!" Raph growls as if I hadn't spoken.
I knew Raph can get a bit testy and moody...but to go this far after all of Splinter's lectures...eesh. Raph was moving toward the door, but just as I prepared to stall my brother, Dad appears in front of Raph out of nowhere and smacks him with his staff.
"Absolutely not!" Raph clutches his head, grimacing in pain. "Your last venture to the surface was a disaster!" Dad growls, blocking the door. I blink. Ouch... "You can ill afford to be seen by more humans." Dad goes on.
As if I needed reminding. The TV screens then distract us again as Dr. Stockman finishes explaining what the MOUSERs did. He then had his assistant, apparently called Ms. O'Neil, release the contents of the box she was holding. Rats. Dr. Stockman then set the MOUSER in front of one of the entrances to the maze on the floor.
"Now...behold the sheer genius of my MOUSER in action!" Baxter boasts. We watch, horror-struck, as the rats were eaten, one by one. I gag. Poor rats...geez...
"Man..." Mikey mumbles. "I'd sure hate to be a rat in this town." He blinks, realization dawning even as Lupa smacks his head. "Ow! Sorry, Sensei." He mumbles.
Dad, however, makes no move to even acknowledge Mikey's insensitivity.
"And the search and retrieval functions are all ingeniously controlled by a remote mother computer." The doctor went on to explain. I flinch. Those things are programmed to wreak destruction, just to kill a few rats?! How were these things ever approved for production?! Regardless, Lupa had had enough of the unveiling and turns the television off.
We all just stood there for a few moments.
"Training." Splinter orders after a minute or two.
We all shook ourselves and obeyed. Splinter decides to repeat the earlier exercise, but with the lights on and no candle. We were all included this time, as well. I charge first, but let Splinter make the first move. I counter as we swing at each other, fairly evenly matched.
For a moment, then Splinter's tail snaps around my legs, and as I lost balance, a foot connects soundly with my chest and I go flying backwards, stumbling and colliding with the wall. Groaning, I stand and move out of the way. "Be prepared for anything, Musume." Donnie was next, but is sent reeling back soon after. "Do not lean with your shoulders, Donatello." Dad advises. Leo came at dad next, with both swords out. Dad stops the strike and before Leo can counter, Splinter sends him back with a hard palm-strike to his plastron. I wince. That looked painful... "Faster on your counterattack, Leonardo."
"Good try, though." I add, giving my brother a thumbs up. Mikey and Lupa (attacking together again) don't last two seconds, falling to essentially the same tactic as before; Splinter tripping them up.
"Mind your footwork, children."
Raph just started swinging, leaving himself completely open to dad's counter, knocking both sai away.
I blink. That's not like Raph at all... "You okay, Raph?" I ask. He gruffly turns away, but is halted by dad pinning him to a pillar with his stick.
"You are distracted, Raphael." Dad notes, a bit of concern in his voice. Raph grunts, not even trying to get out of dad's hold. "You must learn to focus your attacks."
"Yeah? I'd like to 'focus My attacks' on that Stockman guy." Dad walked away, the lesson over, but Raph wasn't done. "Why can't we go topside and show him a little mean'n'green?"
"Because I forbid it." Was the stern reply.
Raph groans.
However, Dad is only interested in going to his room. "We will resume your training in the morning." He calls as the automatic doors close behind him.
Mikey chuckles and nudges Lupa to get her attention.
"'We will resume your training in the morning'." He repeats in a slightly mocking voice.
"I heard that." Splinter calls from his room.
I can't help but laugh.
"Busted." Don quips.
Raph growls, grinding his fist into his palm. "I'd like to bust a few heads!" He growls.
I roll my eyes. "That's out of the question, and you know it." Raph grunts and turns his back on me.
Mikey shrugs. "Chill, bro. We don't need no sticking surface world." He said in a placating tone that was anything but placating to Raph. "We got late movies, top ten video countdown, BMX highlights, some really weird Korean soap opera-"
"Or," Don interjects, slipping his goggles on and firing up his blowtorch. "you could give me a hand with these MOUSER parts. If I can get one working, I can trace it back to its source and find out what Stockman's really using them for."
I sigh heavily. "If it means tearing that thing apart...I guess I'll do it." I reply and head over. As I'm putting the second pair of goggles on, I hear Raph yawn wearily.
"Y'all go ahead. I'm beat. I'm gonna wreck."
I frown. "Since when does Raph turn in so early?" Leo and I ask almost in sync.
"He probably just wanted to get out of playing with Don's freaky science project." Lupa replies.
Don sighs, but makes no comment as I nod in agreement. We work for two hours before I decide to hit the hay.
I call out 'goodnight' to Mike and Lupa, who were watching a horror movie marathon or something of that nature.
=#=#=#=#=
Leo wakes me a little while later with a hand on my shoulder, gesturing for me to follow him. We left the Lair, but halt only a short distance away.
"Leo, what-" He put a hand over my mouth and a finger to his.
Soon enough, we hear a soft thud as someone landed a flip from the top floor. Raph, I realize, as he passed the entertainment center. I stood off in the shadows at Leo's direction. I suppose I'm the back-up if things go south here.
"Midnight stroll?" Leo asks tersely when Raph comes in earshot, knowing full well what Raph is up to.
"Outta my way, Leo." Raph growls. I decide, Leo's blessing or not, to come out and try to reason with Raph.
"Cool it, Raph." I start, striding over. "Listen to me. This is a suicide mission, and you know it. We all want a piece of Stockman, but storming over to Stocktronics won't get us anywhere but a grave yard. Is that really how you want to go?"
To my shock, Raph actually hesitated for a second.
Then, his face hardens and he growls low in his throat. "I gotta go." He says after a moment.
I cross my arms."Then I suppose I've gotta stop you." I reply.
"Master Splinter said we stay put." Leo reminds us.
Raph gets into a ready stance. "Look, I'll go through the both of you if I have to."
"Just go inside, Raph." I try, one last time, to reason with him as I get into a stance myself. "Please. Don's cookin' up that MOUSER so we can track it back to Stocktronics. It might even deactivate security when it arrives, so let's just cool off and head back to bed." Raph just sinks deeper into the stance as Leo readies himself.
"I dunno. I kinda want to see him try to get through us, the hothead." Leo growls.
I roll my eyes. There goes any slim chance I might have had of convincing my hot-head of a brother to go inside.
"Careful what you wish for, Splinter Jr!" Raph roars, leaping at Leo. I can only try to pull Raph and Leo apart, which does nothing.
"Stoppit!" I bark, continuing to fail at getting these two off each other. Then suddenly, a MOUSER comes racing past us. I flinch back, fear overriding reason.
"What the heck?!" Don follows close behind the metal monster, with our other two siblings hot on his heels.
"Hey, guys, I got one working!" Don greets. I exhale slowly.
"A little warning next time, bro! You scared the crap outta me!" I reply hotly.
He merely shrugs.
"Come on!" Mikey cries.
"He's faster than he looks!" Lupa adds, matching Mikey's look of concentration.
Leo gulps. It's clear he's unsure of what to do. Leaving him to make up his mind, I follow my siblings to try and make sure we all come back in one piece.
"So..." Raph starts. Neither turtle have moved when I glance back. "You just gonna let that MOUSER roam free?"
I only hear snatches of Leo's reply as they get up and come after us. We chase it for what feels like hours before it goes out over a drainage junction, the whirlpool giving me vertigo.
I focus on Leo's shell directly ahead of me and it helps a little.
"Watch your step here, guys. Don't want to end up as turtle soup." Leo notes.
"Or wolf flambe." Lupa adds.
I face-palm. "That isn't even close to the same thing. Just keep going." I reply.
She shrugs. Just up ahead, I watch in fascinated frustration as the MOUSER literally walks up the wall.
"Resourceful little...critter." Don growls, frowning.
"I'll say." Lupa and I agree.
"So, what do we do now?" Raph asks. Leo thinks for a moment.
"Like Master Splinter says, a ninja is always prepared." Leo replies, reaching into his belt for shuko spikes even as I'm slipping mine on.
"I thought that was the boy scouts." Mikey quips. He and Lupa high-five, but then cry out in alarm. Their spikes have gotten stuck together.
I sigh, separating them in a second. "Focus, you two. Come on!"
I start climbing, followed by the rest of my siblings. We climb higher and higher, following the tracks the MOUSER left behind. It seems to go on forever.
"Ugh! Next time, let's leave the wall-crawling to the dude in the red and blue tights." Mikey complains.
I hang my head in frustration.
"You mean Spiderman?" Lupa asks. I shake my head in bewilderment. Honestly, those two can be the geekiest nerds sometimes.
"Just keep climbing, guys." I order, and they do.
"You two read way too many comic books." Leo chuckles.
"Tell me about it." I reply. Soon enough, the MOUSER heads into a tunnel and we all breathe a sigh of relief. Climbing walls was as fun to me as the next mutant, but that was ridiculous! We take off running again, and I feel my legs start to burn.
"Just curious, Don. What's to stop ole Turbo-Jaws from chewing up another 6.2 on the Richter scale?" Mike asks after a moment.
I hum. "Good question."
Don just smirks. "I shut down its jaw servos. It couldn't even chew through a stick of gum." He replies confidently. It then promptly began to chew through the wall as if to directly contradict Donnie.
I flinch back, shocked. I trust that Don at least thought he had shut down those servos, but...apparently, it didn't take.
"You were saying?" Raph snarks.
I roll my eyes.
Don deflates slightly, confused. "But I—I'm sure I shut them down."
Mikey put a hand on his brother's shoulder. "Don's finally lost his techno-mojo. Sad, really."
"Yeah. Truly tragic." Lupa adds, grinning.
"Guys, knock it off." I retort, rolling my eyes again.
Don grips his chin, minding his spikes, frowning in thought. "It must have some kind of security override routine." He mumbles to himself.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night, bro." Lupa says placatingly, patting Donnie's shell.
I glare at her and she shrugs.
"Come on!" Don calls as he takes off. Only to stop seconds later because he, and I, suddenly notice the gaping hole in the support structure of the pipes above us! "Oh, no."
"What is it, Don?"
"Bad. Very, very bad." I whimper.
Lupa notices it, too, and shrugs. "Pipes leak all the time."
"Shut it, Lu. This is serious."
"Asami's right." Don adds. "If I'm not mistaken, that's a serious water main hanging over our heads."
Raph doesn't get it, raising a brow at me.
"Dude, look at it!" I retort.
Raph glances upward. "So?"
I huff in frustration. Being an observant wolf among turtles can be exhausting.
"'So'?!" Don snaps. "Our little MOUSER friend just ate through the pipe's support!"
"And without it..." I add as the pipe's groaning becomes louder and it begins to shake and tremble. "We gotta move!"
"Incoming!" Leo screams, too late. We are washed down the tunnel by a flood of water so powerful, it knocks the wind out of me. Thinking quickly as we fell toward the swirling vortex of high-pressure water below, Don takes his staff out, and uses it to hang like laundry from a pipe that goes across the circular room.
"Grab on!" He cries, and we all, naturally, do just that. Don grunts under the weight. I feel bad for him, but can't move, as I am hanging from Leo's legs and Lupa is hanging from mine. Mikey looks around. Or so I assume, judging by the way the line of mutants swings slightly.
"Ow!" Raph yelps. "Watch where you point those shuko spikes, Mike!" He growls.
"Oh, keep your shell on, Raph. I got an idea!" Mikey calls back, and starts swinging the line violently.
"Mikey, stop!" I yell.
Lupa's spikes dig painfully into my ankles and I know it's the same for everyone, as we all protest. But we are left with no other choice, letting go and falling at an angle through the waterfall nearest us.
Spiking the wall, I pant and spit out water.
"That was insane, Mike!" Lupa cries. "Don't ever do anything like that again." She growls.
"Agreed." I add sourly.
"Guys, you okay?" Don asks.
Raph spits out a small fountain of water before replying. "Peachy."
"At least we aren't hanging by each other's ankles anymore." I muse.
"Don't make it right." Raph snaps.
I roll my eyes. "No point arguing now. Just climb. We gotta catch up to that stupid metal butt-head." I reply tersely, climbing with no small amount of irritation. Once we got back to the area we were washed back from, we take off the spikes and put them back in our belts.
"When I find that metal menace, I'm gonna grind it into little bot-burgers." Raph growls.
"Take it easy, Raph." Don replies. "We still gotta keep him in one piece."
Mikey frowns. "What makes you think we'll even find the little blender-butt?"
Lupa face-palms. "Uh, Mike..."
"I think he left us a few clues." Leo muses sarcastically, turning his littlest brother toward the munched-through wall behind him. We head down the tunnel eaten through the walls, and it seems to stretch for an eternity before we finally come out onto abandoned train tracks. Or, at least, we thought they were abandoned. "Look out!" Leo exclaims, drawing Raph back just in time as a train rips past, just inches away from the boys.
"You two okay?" I ask worriedly as Leo all but tosses Raph back when the train passes. They nod, pale and slightly shaky with shock.
"Yeah...yeah, I think we're good, sis." Raph replies. When the train fully passed, the MOUSER was nowhere to be seen.
"Whoa!" Mikey cries. "Robo-Houdini!"
Leo and I take a closer look...and find the MOUSER, hooked by its jaws to the back of the train! "Wrong!" We reply in sync. "Robo-hitch-hiker!"
Mikey runs a few steps forward. "We'll never catch him now!" He groans.
Raph turns. "Two can play at that game."
My eyes widen. No way. There was a train coming, and it might be a good way to catch up, but...no.
"Raph, don't you—Raph!" I protest as my idiotic brother leaps onto a moving train!
Leo gasps. "What a maniac!"
"I know!" Lupa says with a grin. "He's awesome!"
"Yeah." Don agrees. "Wait for us!" He calls pointlessly, since it's not like Raph can stop the train.
I gulp thickly, but leap out, anyway. I barely catch a car's roof, swinging onto it and collapsing, shock and adrenaline coursing through my veins.
Beside me, Lupa laughs.
"This is awesome!" She screams over the noise of the train.
"No, it is not!" I reply, clinging for dear life to the roof. Up ahead, through slightly streaming eyes, I see a blurry silver object roll on the tracks before walking away. We leap off, as well, sending a jolt up my knees. I shake it off and keep running, though. Once this tunnel has run its course, we arrive at a crossroad of sorts, with the MOUSER just across the way. We move forward, only to spot another MOUSER right in front of us. Looking between the twin MOUSERS, I blink.
"Uh...didn't you only get one running, D?" I ask timidly, fearing I already knew the answer.
"Yeah. Who invited him?" Mike replies, cocking a thumb at the extra MOUSER.
"I got it!" Raph calls, throwing a shuriken at the offending MOUSER, slicing neatly through its head. It falls with a clunk to the ground. Raph and Mike high-five, oblivious to the fact that the MOUSER got right back up!
"That's not good, guys." Leo groans.
"Yah think?!" I retort, drawing my tomahawks.
"Neither is that!" Don squeaks, pointing to where a miniature army of the little demons is coming right for us. "These chrome-domes are a lot tougher than the last batch!" He adds.
Soon, we're surrounded.
"Yeah? And there's a lot more of them, too." Raph grumbles. We are all standing in a circle, weapons at the ready. "Great. Just great." He snaps sarcastically as the MOUSERs charge and we are swept up in the heat of battle.
"These MOUSERs are amazing!" Don cries, batting more away. "The servo-mechanics! The circuitry, the articulation!"
"Save it, D! Just smash 'em!" I growl, slicing another MOUSER neatly in half.
"Yeah, Don. Why doncha jes' marry one already?!" Raph snaps.
I snort. "Such a burn, Raph." I retort derisively.
He merely grunts and destroys more MOUSERs. I notice one about to take a chunk out of Lupa's back, so I threw a shuriken to distract it and alert Lupa to its presence.
It lays in shreds seconds later.
"Thanks." Lupa calls.
I nod and slice deep into another MOUSER.
"Guys, the only way to defeat them is to slice their heads off." Leo notes during a slight lull in MOUSERs.
"What'd yah think we were doing?!" Lupa retorts and suddenly we're up to our eyeballs in MOUSERs again. We have to separate a little just to have enough room to swing our weapons. "This is fun!" Lupa suddenly chirps. "I feel like a Grim Reaper here."
I roll my eyes. "A double-bladed scythe does not make you a Reaper, sis. Just keep these things from chomping you to pieces." I reply.
She blows a raspberry at me.
"Great job, guys!" Don calls as we wrap up the fight. "Just make sure we leave one-" Raph was in the air even as Don orders one to remain "Intact."
"So much for tracing it back to the source." Leo notes sourly, sheathing his swords.
Suddenly, I pick up the distinct sound of MOUSERs from a few tunnels away.
"Shh, guys. You hear that?" I ask. Only Lupa nods. "Come on! There's more MOUSERs, just a little ways away."
We take off, and soon I hear gasps and cries of shock, coming from a fairly young female if I'm not mistaken. Soon enough, I smell small traces of perfume and fear, leading into a nearby tunnel. We run down, only to find a red-haired woman in a purple crop-top and tan pants cornered by three MOUSERs. The woman screams again and covers her face with her arm, giving us the opportunity to slice the robots to bits and melt into the shadows before she realized that she wasn't robo-food. We turn to leave, but then she speaks, and we halt.
"Oh, thank you! Thank you!" She cried. "You saved my...my...m-my..."
Mikey, I realize too late, is too close to the young woman to remain hidden in the shadows. To top it all off, he leaned out, completely exposing himself to the woman before us. "Hi!"
"Mikey!" I hiss, but it's too late. Her eyes widen and she gives a soft gasp before fainting. I face-palm.
"Hey. Soo, can I keep her?" Mikey asks cheerily, picking her up easily bridal style.
I smack him lightly upside the head. "Mikey, she's not a pet!" I bark.
Oh, man...What do we do now?

Aftermath [One-shot] [Featuring my OCs] [RotTMNT Movie]
So, I know I should wait til I’ve done all the Rise series, or at least the movie, but I just cann’t help it!
The Rise Movie is still giving me brain-rot, so here we go!
In case you are new, I made a bio for my OCs, Asami and Lupa Hamato! If you have questions, the bio should answer them, but if not, feel free to ask! :)
I would like to take a moment and tag @fluidfoxwritting123 since they have been super supportive of my girls!
I hope this isn’t too confusing! ^.^’
Again, please let me know if you guys have questions! *thumbs up*
Last thing I’m going to say is, if you like my writing, please consider buying me a ko-fi, or if you want, you can continuously support me writing stories by joining my Patreon!
(P.S: ‘Ane’ is Japanese for big or older sister. Asami likes using just a little Japanese after finding out her human DNA is Japanese. The others like making her happy so they use it like a nickname.)
God Bless and Good Day!
~The Lupine Sojourner
Tumblr media
It’s hard, staying awake after such an intense few days, but I don’t have a choice.
My brother and future self need my help. I have to monitor Big Me’s ribs and shoulder, plus Leo’s shell came this close to cracking all the way through from whatever the Kraang did to him in that prison realm.
Understandably, neither of them wanted to talk about their time in that other realm, the memories too fresh.
From what I’m seeing, though, I know whatever was done to them was meant not only to hurt, but also to kill, and kill slowly. The Kraang wanted to draw out killing them, to make them suffer until the end.
Of course, I didn’t dare say that out loud. Because that would make it too real.
So I bandage their gashes, stitch Big Me’s shoulder again, set a few ribs and patch Leo’s plastron as best I could, and then I sit and monitor them quietly. They were unconscious, unable to stay awake even the short time it took to get back to the Lair. I had looked them over for signs of concussion and hadn’t seen any, so I let them sleep. They’d need a lot of rest to recover for this...
The others come drifting in and out to get their surprisingly few and minor injuries looked at.
There was no sign of Mikey’s mystic strain except a small tremor in his hands and a feverish warmth to his skin. If either of those symptoms would go away was anyone’s guess, but for now, I wrapped his hands to stabilize them, had him drink some ice water, and gave him a big hug.
Lupa, who'd stayed with April, Casey, and Dad, had been smacked around pretty good, so she needed some pain meds and a few minor bandages, but all in all she got off easy.
Donnie, fortunately, did not have any marks or lasting effects from his time connected to the Kraang Technodrome, but he nearly refused to let me touch his shell, flinching away, eyes wide in fear, before his brain registered that it was me and he calmed down. All I needed was a few small touches to ensure there were no signs of damage before I cleared him. There weren’t any serious injuries on him, thank God.
Casey, thanks to his armor, had little to nothing physically wrong with him, but he kept asking about Leo and Big Me, which wasn’t helping anything. I told him again and again they would be ok, that they just needed to rest, but it seemed like this poor kid expected them to…you know.
I eventually convinced him by letting him listen to Leo’s strong heartbeat with a stethoscope. He sat there for what felt like a long time, just listening, before he quietly asked to do the same for Big Me. I let him, and it was another few minutes before he stood and slowly walked out, casting several glances over his shoulder.
Raph’s eye showed no damage from the strange mutation he had endured. Not physically, anyway, but I could tell by the way he hesitated to touch anything, to look his brothers in the eye or scoop them up in a hug like he normally would, that the experience had not left him unscathed.
This whole situation had been even worse than the Shredder.
When Leo and Big Me were in the prison realm…it felt like I couldn’t breathe. I’d begged Leo to portal us up, to do anything but what he was about to do, but he only asked Casey again to close the portal, begging the poor kid to finish the fight. And just like that, Casey grabbed the Key and the Technodrome was no more.
It was gone, but the victory felt worse than fighting the Kraang.
I thought for sure I’d lost them for nearly 25 agonizing minutes until Mikey pulled that miraculous mystic stunt to get them back.
My heart stopped when I saw those yellow cracks on his hands, and it started to shatter when I saw the pain in his eyes at the new sensation. Holding back tears, I’d instantly run to him, right alongside Raph and Donnie. We all shared the burden of creating such a portal, and it worked…somehow.
Somehow, we had defied all odds and rescued our siblings without re-releasing the Kraang. I still can’t believe how well this whole thing went, all things considered.
This very easily could’ve devolved into history being made worse with Raph’s capture and the Technodrome being brought in from the prison realm, but somehow we still clung to any scrap of hope we could find and kept fighting and that led to…this.
This moment, watching my future self and my little brother breathing. Maybe not breathing easy, but the point is they’re here and they’re alive. That in and of itself is a miracle.
I don’t realize my eyes are closed until the heart monitor for Big Me started beeping just a little faster and I had to open my eyes to check on her.
Her eyes are open. “H-hey.” Her voice is small and strained.
I smile at her. “Hey.” I murmur, trying not to wake Leo.
“Everyone else ok?” She asks, thankfully not trying to sit up, which is probably more a testament to her pain than her self control.
“G-guys…I don’t think…I don’t think Leo and I can walk right now…” She’d said as we stayed in our family hug for longer than we probably should have, considering their condition.
Now…it was clear she was hiding her pain. I’ll give her a bit more morphine…if we have any left.
But for now, I gently move hair from her face and nod. “Yeah, they’re alright…thanks to you. You and Leo…” I swallow. “I hate that it came to that.” I suddenly can’t speak past a lump in my throat. “I thought…” I manage to force out, but can't get further.
“I know. In our defense, Leo didn’t bet on losing his swords. We planned on portaling down as soon as we had the Kraang in position and Casey could grab the Key, but…” She grimaces and draws in a slow breath. “That’s not how things turned out.”
I hold back an angry, hurt tirade about how stupid their stunt was and how scared I had been, and end up just sighing, tears pricking my eyes.
“Leo’s just lucky Casey found them.” I try for humor, but there’s none in my voice. The poor kid thought the swords were all that was left of his mentor and Leo…
“Yeah, he’s a lifesaver.” Big Me smiles fondly, then glances over at Leo. “I hate that he did that, too, you know. S’why I went with him.”
I nod through tears soaking my mask. I move it up and let them flow. “I know.” And I did, cus I felt the same way. I felt the same sadness and small bit of shame that my poor little brother had to shoulder that burden at only 16 years old.
16…way too young to understand real sacrifice, to understand what responsibility is.
What if Raph and I had taught him that being a hero means sacrificing yourself? That responsibility means putting everything on yourself?
I'll have to talk to him…
“For what it’s worth…I’m sorry.”
I exhale to rid myself of sarcastic retorts or angry words I’d regret later.
“What happened over there?” I ask instead.
Maybe, if I knew exactly what they endured, I’d be less angry, I’d see that they’d been punished enough for their poor choice.
“Oh, the usual villain thing; Kraang wanted to take his anger out on us, get his revenge, yada yada.”
I wince. “I see.” Yeah…they’d definitely been punished enough. I knew that from the moment Big Me said she and Leo couldn’t walk.
But somehow it took til now to really start to forgive them for scaring us like that.
“It’s not your fault.” Big Me says and I can’t help a sob.
“If I’d managed to stop the Kraang from sending us off the technodrome--”
“Then what?” Big Me interrupts gently. “We all might have gone to the prison realm, or the fight would have dragged on, and we all might have gotten this badly hurt. Bringing you back up wasn’t worth that risk. I just…I just hate that Leo chose to make that sacrifice. I wanted so bad to be the one to save him this time…”
I grimace. Big Me had mentioned that Leo sent her back here, but nothing other than that…
“I’m sorry.”
“You wanna know what happens to your brothers in the future? They all die fighting the Kraang!” Casey had said that to Leo in that hole in the rubble, no idea what damage those words did to Leo. Or to me…
“It’s ok. At least…I’m here now, in this time. And I know we won’t end up like them…but I can’t help missing them.” She takes a breath. “I’m sorry. I...I don’t know how much Casey told you and Leo…but--”
“He told us they all died. I don’t want to know how.” I interject, hand on her good shoulder. “Like you said, you’re here now. You can honor them, grieve them, and eventually find peace here…or at least, I hope you can.” I sigh. “This whole…situation is kinda messed up, but…I’m glad you’re here. I’m glad Casey is here, too.”
Big Me chuckles a little, but stops with a barely contained wince. “Y-you know, you’re supposed to come to me for wisdom like that.”
“We’re the same person.” I quip in a deadpan voice Donnie would be proud of.
Big Me laughs, but stops quickly with another subtle wince. “Stop making me laugh, kid!” She tries to poke me, but can’t quite reach.
“Never.” I reply.
Silence falls over the lab and suddenly my eyes are heavy again.
“Do me a favor?” Big Me asks.
“Yeah?” I take a long blink before looking at her.
“Go take a picture of everyone for me, then come back, ok?”
I grab my phone. “You got it.”
I find them all in a pile in the living room, pillows and blankets haphazardly strewn about them.
They haven’t done this since Shredder…
I smile, grabbing a blanket and settling it over Mikey, who hums a little but doesn’t stir from Raph's chest.
As the blanket settled over him, Donnie flinches subtly at Raph's left side, but he stills just as quickly, scooting subconsciously closer to Raph, who has his arms out, complete with pillows for his siblings.
Good. At least he isn’t scared to touch them any more…
Lupa is curled into a ball against Raph’s other side, one hand clutching his belt like she’d never let go. I’m almost glad to cover that hand with a blanket.
Mikey is flopped on Raph’s chest, snoring lightly as I tuck a larger blanket around him and Raph.
It takes me a minute to find Casey, and when I did, I nearly wished I hadn’t.
He’s stationed himself like a guard by the door to the lab, curled up against the wall as tight as he could go, with only a blanket covering him. His mask is down over his face and he’s still wearing his armor.
I grab a spare pillow from the pile and stealthily lift Casey’s head, slipping the mask off and the pillow under his head in one movement.
Years of being a big sister had paid off.
That is, until I notice Casey’s eyes are half-open. I ease the hair off his face and shush him. “Sleep, Casey…” I murmur softly and his eyes drift close.
Once I was sure Casey was asleep, I take a quick picture of the pile of mutants and Casey and make my way back to the med bay.
“Give you one guess where they are right now.” I chuckle as I resume my seat next to Big Me.
“The living room, right?”
I nod and show her the picture. “Where else would they be?” I shake my head, amused.
“And Casey?” The humor fizzles a bit.
“Outside the lab. I had to get him a pillow. Poor kid…” I sigh. “You know, I almost wish they wouldn’t do the pile any more…”
“Yeah...They only do it after they’ve been through something like this.”
"I guess I'm just glad they're getting sleep. They've been through so much lately…" I muse.
“You’ve been through a lot, too, you know.” Big Me points out softly.
“Not as much as--”
“No. You went through the same hell they did and deserve a break.” Big Me pats the space beside her.
Whatever protest I might have come up with can’t make it past my throat, so I just take off my mask and lay down, my arm automatically going over Big Me’s hip when she gently puts my arm back. “Huh?” I can’t help but ask.
“Turn over.” She instructs.
I blink stupidly at her, but in the end, I do turn over, feeling distinctly childish. Even more so when her arm, pulling the covers up in a fluid move I’d done a thousand times myself, settles on my hip.
“You're not, um, sleeping on your bad arm, right?”
“Sleep.”
I smile, cheeks warm. “I feel a little childish.”
“Sleep.” Big Me insists firmly.
I sigh. Maybe, just for tonight, I can let myself relax.
Just for tonight, it’s ok to share a bed with my future self, to have her hold me like I held the kids all those years after a nightmare.
And so, my heavy eyes finally close with no cause to open them again, blessed sleep coming swiftly.
If I had stayed awake, however, I would have seen Leo briefly wake up, notice my sleeping situation, carefully get out of bed to snap a picture, then lay back down, staring at the picture for a while before he sets his phone down and falls asleep.
But I knew none of that til the next morning at breakfast.
=#=#=#=#=
I slowly start to come awake and realize I don’t hear the monitors any more.
Instantly, adrenaline rushes into my veins and I leap up, scanning the room frantically for the patients that should be in bed.
But they aren’t!
I grab my mask and tie it on as I rush out of the med bay into the lab, but they’re not there.
I make it to the living room, but no one is there!
What the--?!
“--had pancakes?! Oh, booyyy am I about to blow your mind!”
Mikey! The kitchen!
I sprint over, ignoring some overworked muscles protesting my rapid movement, to find my family in the kitchen, getting coffee and waiting for Mikey, who was pouring batter on the griddle like he was being timed, eager to show off his cooking skills.
Before anyone sees me, I march into the room.
“Hey!” I bark, pointing at my renegade patients, who were sitting at the table, thankfully. “You two! Back to bed!”
Everyone goes silent and still.
“Morning, mis hermana!” Leo chirps, pointedly not showing any pain he’s feeling as he waves.
“Donchu ‘mis hermana’ me, boy! Bed! Now!” I protest hotly.
“Little me, it’s ok, I promise. Remember, I’m the team medic, too. I’m watching him for you. You go get ready for the day. We’ll still be sitting here when you get back.”
I hate that Big Me knows me so well, but I guess she’s just speaking from experience…
“...” I turn and walk off, not trusting anything that might come out of my mouth.
I grumble to myself about how stupid it is that those two are out of bed with their injuries while I brush my teeth and grab some fresh clothes, though.
But then it hits me.
Leo and Big Me, they looked so…relaxed and happy being around the others. They probably needed the company…
I feel like such a jerk as I walk back to the kitchen.
“...I’m sorry.” I mumble, fiddling with my fingers.
Big Me smiles patiently at me. “Come sit. We’re having pancakes.”
I nod mutely and sit, accepting the mug of coffee Donnie presses into my hands.
“You guys feeling better today?” I ask automatically, sipping at the warm coffee.
“Other than stiff from sleeping on the floor…nothing has changed.” Donnie reports, smiling a bit at me as he sits across from me, knee brushing mine under the table.
“Good. Raph?”
“All good, hoss.” Raph replies, and I notice Lupa in his lap, scrolling on her phone.
I smile. “Excellent. Hey, chef, you feeling ok?” I call.
“A-ok! Oh! I left something on the table there!”
He’d drawn a picture.
Our new family group, posing for battle with the words Mad Dogz: 1 Kraang: 0 as the headline. It was clearly done hastily to test how steady his hands are, but I still snap a picture on my phone.
“Fantastic, Angelo.”
I take a breath. Things are…fairly normal for a change. It felt really nice just sitting here enjoying breakfast, so I drink coffee.
The only warning I have of the coming embarrassment is a split second of mischief in Leo’s eyes as he grabs his phone, then I hear Lupa’s phone vibrate in her hands.
Seconds later…
“Awww that’s so cute!” She squeals, eagerly showing Raph, who visibly melts, eyes shining with happiness.
“D’awww! Show Don!”
I raise a brow. “What’s going- -”
“Ohmigosh that's adorable!” Donnie chuckles. “Didn’t know you two were cuddlers!”
My heart skips a beat. “What're you- -Leo!” Lupa thrusts her phone in my face, revealing a picture of Big Me and…me, asleep, Big Me’s arm still around me, but I’d turned to face her, one hand against her stomach as if I needed her touch.
Maybe I did…
Despite the embarrassed warmth in my cheeks and ears, I smile.
“I won’t apologize. It was a good night’s sleep.” I sniff haughtily, as if daring anyone to try to tease me, but no one does.
Evidently, they all knew I’d needed the sleep and the comfort.
“Nor should you apologize.” Big Me nods like the matter is settled. “Now, how’re those pancakes coming, Mikey?” She asks and for the first time I notice her eyes…they’re shiny with tears. I can’t tell if they’re sad tears or glad tears, so I don’t call attention to it, just smile at her and shake my head to say ‘what’re we gonna do with them?’.
She smiles back, shrugging, and I realize they’re happy tears. She most certainly needed the company…she’s been suffering so long…
“Coming along great! Oooh Raph! Can you get some bacon going? Maybe some of those sausage patties, too! After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” Mikey is back to his bubbly, hyperactive self, which brings me no small sense of relief.
“Really?” I hadn’t even noticed Casey in a corner of the room closest to us, as if he wasn’t sure where he should be.
I notice beside me is a free seat, so I gesture. “Yup! C’mon, don’t be a stranger!” I call, patting the seat beside me.
“But you know me.” Casey replies, confused.
“Sit’own, kid.” Big Me chimes in. “Breakfast is supposed to be a social affair.”
“I guess…” The kid reluctantly sits down and I notice he doesn’t have the armor on, or the mask, and I find I like seeing more of him.
I then get an idea and grab my phone and text Leo the picture I took of the pile.
“You guys did a pile without me?!” Leo snaps, looking at his siblings in betrayal as he slams his phone down on the table.
“You can be part of the next one, soon as your plastron is healed.” I sip more coffee as Leo crosses his arms (careful not to hurt his plastron) in outrage.
“No way! I should’ve been there! I never miss a pile!” He whines.
“Sorry, Leo, but our injuries made a pile not possible. We’ll have one the night we’re cleared, right little me?” Big Me glances at me, knowing I’d back her up.
I nod. “Sounds like a plan!”
“...What’s a ‘pile’?” Casey asks timidly. I show him the picture, noticing everyone’s phone chiming. Leo must’ve texted them all the picture.
“The kids like to sleep all together after…something like this.”
“I wondered why no one was going to their rooms…” Casey murmurs.
“We all have coping strategies.” I shrug, putting my phone down as Mikey brings over the first big plate of pancakes.
Of course, he splurged and put chocolate chips in them, but I let it slide. This was definitely worth the chocolate chips (which were a bit hard to come by lately).
“I’m just glad I didn’t roll over on you guys.” Raph quips as he puts the bacon on a frying pan, another one heating up for the sausage patties.
After all, some of us had dietary needs to meet. Namely, Lupa and I, but Donnie and Raph as well.
I grab a few pancakes and snicker. “Remember that time Mikey had a cold and climbed into your bed? He elbowed you to the edge before you could say ‘cowabunga’!”
“That little tike almost had me on the floor!” Raph huffs, but his smirk betrays his amusement.
“You know I need room to move, Raphie-boy!” Mikey retorts, winking at Raph, who just rolls his eyes.
“Yeah yeah.” He grabs a pancake and eats half in one bite. “Great job on the pancakes, little- -I mean big man!” Raph rubs Mikey's head as if he were ruffling hair.
Mikey beams at Raph, happy Raph's recovered enough to touch him. “Thanks!” Mikey pats Raph on the arm and I don’t see Raph flinch, so hopefully all this means he’s starting to trust himself again.
That mutation…we still don’t know what part of Raph was conscious of what he was doing, or if it was all a blank.
I kinda hope it’s a blank…
I then shake myself. “Anyone got the syrup handy?” I ask the table, grabbing a few pancakes and stacking them on my plate.
"Here, Ane!” Leo calls sliding it over without moving his chest too much.
“Thanks, mis hermano.” I pour it on and sigh contentedly as I look around me.
Everyone was here, everyone was safe and recovering.
That’s what matters here.

(Future Asami’s PoV)
Things haven't looked this bleak since the Kraang first arrived.
Leo, Mikey, Casey, and I are all that's left of the Hamato clan now…
With the others…gone, it was up to us to come up with a plan to save the world.
I clutch my shoulder and try my best to keep running. Those Kraang lasers pack a punch, but luckily my tessen’s energy took the lethal shot that would have hit my heart and my shoulder took the hit instead.
Poor Leo isn’t in better shape. His side took a nasty hit, but Casey Jones is on the job, supporting Leo as best he could as we ran.
That kid is something else.
Leo and I’ve known him since birth. He was something of a miracle, one of the few births after the Kraang invasion. Poor kid doesn’t even know what pizza is, or what it’s like to live in a house or really have a normal family life.
All he’s known is caves and rats, with barely enough water to go around.
He’s a fighter, though, just like his mother, but mercifully without her 1000% energy and temper.
Cassandra died moving resistance fighters from one base to another and ever since, Leo and I have tried our best to raise the poor kid.
“I’ve got you, Sensei! Stay with me!” Casey urges as Leo pulls out the family picture he carries.
“We’ll make it, Casey. Don’t worry.” I grit my teeth, pressing harder. We had to get out of here…
The scent of blood is so strong, I feel my stomach churn, but I can’t think about puking right now.
“You’re a lifesaver, Casey Jones.” Leo quips, clutching his side as he tries to keep up with Casey.
“I learned from the best. Come on, we’re almost there!” The kid’s mask comes up and he gives Leo a grin.
Leo and Casey have always had a certain connection I don’t have. Leo could get that boy to do just about anything, but when I try to talk to him, I just don’t get the same results.
Regardless, we have to keep moving.
“When we can stop, I’ll try my best to bandage that side, Leo.” I call, panting.
“Don’t worry, Ane. I’ll be alright.” Leo replies, but something in his eyes tells me he’s just putting on a brave face.
This is bad. This is really really bad. All around us, the Kraang are decimating our feeble numbers. They’d caught us off guard, striking without warning, so we had no choice but to run for it.
We pause for a minute, only to regret it as Kraang-dogs encircle us.
Casey winces, seeing them about to pounce.
Luckily, glowing orange chains snap out from thin air, sending the dogs flying.
“Bad doggies!” That voice..! Mikey!
“Impeccable timing, little brother! Very dramatic!” Leo calls, smiling happily. After all, we don't get to spend much time together nowadays.
True to form, Mikey suddenly appears in the middle of the chains, motioning his arms around. His chains retreat into Mikey’s wrists before slamming out to the other dogs coming up on us and unleashing a wave of mystic energy. We’re finally able to rest for a minute and I automatically start ripping my shirt for a bandage, hissing as my shoulder ignites in agony.
“Leo?” Mikey whispers as Leo groans, trying to refuse the makeshift bandage. “Ami, what happened?”
“He’s hurt bad!” Casey worries before I say anything. “Help him, Michelangelo! Master Asami, please!”
“I’m trying- -ow! Leo, hold still!” I grumble, but Leo keeps resisting me, though his agony was clear to us all, jostling my shoulder painfully.
“Stop, Ane! There’s no time!” Leo grumbles, still trying to stop me.
“Stow that talk! Just let me--” I stop short as the massive robots behind us wipe out the last of our brave friends and troops. “No!” Tears prick my eyes. April! Todd…Dale…everyone. Those poor brave people…
I grit my teeth and quickly wrap Leo’s side while he’s distracted.
“Th-that’s it.” Leo moans, wincing as I tie off my impromptu bandage. “The Resistance failed. The Kraang won!”
“Stop that!” I snap, tying off the bandage, which was already concerningly red. He’s losing too much blood…I have to stop this bleeding! “We’re still here!”
“You’re right. Sorry..” Leo takes a breath. “This isn’t over! We still have a ninja’s greatest weapon; hope.” Leo’s small sad smile tells me what his plan is, even as he turns to Mikey. “That, and a badass mystic warrior.”
“Leo…no.” I hiss. He couldn’t possibly..! No! That’s too high a price!
“Asami, I’m sorry. I didn’t want it to come to this, but…” He swallows, turning to Mikey. “Mikey, we need a time gateway.”
Mikey’s eyes go wide, but then he grits his teeth in understanding. “It’ll take all I have.” He warns, but he knows Leo knows that.
Leo’s voice wavers. “I know…but this is our last chance.”
“No! There has to be something else!” I cry, tears now streaming. “No way we can do this!” My head whirls
“It’s our only chance.” Leo’s eyes swim with tears, but Mikey’s are dry. He knows this is our final hope, but we all swore we would do anything to avoid this.
Because if Mikey opens that portal…the mystic energy will consume him, tearing him apart. He won’t survive…
Mikey starts floating toward the open area in front of us and I make myself move forward despite the world suddenly wobbling and swaying.
“Mikey!” I hug him tightly. “You don’t have to- -”
“I do, Ane. Leo’s right.” Mikey murmurs, rubbing my back.
I kiss his forehead. He shouldn't have to do this... “We’ll make it count, I swear it.”
“Good. Just…promise to avenge Lupa for me.” Mikey’s eyes now flow with tears, but beneath the grief of leaving us behind, there was bravery and determination.
I nod. “We will.”
Poor sweet Lupa had fallen after the Kraang tried to kill Mikey when Mikey discovered the time gateway. He’d nearly killed himself powering the portal, but we managed to stop it, promising to each other we would only ever use that gateway when everything else failed and there was no other choice.
Now, the time has come.
Now, we have a chance to make the Kraang pay for the carnage and death they’ve inflicted over the years.
“Master Asami? What’s going on, Sensei? Where’s Mikey going?” Casey calls, confused.
Leo grits his teeth. “Casey, listen. The Kraang first came to our planet through a mystic doorway.” Leo pulls out the only piece of paper he has; our last family photo, faded and tattered after all these years. Leo grabs a nearby rock. “The key that opened the doorway looked like this.” He quickly sketches the key we lost Splinter trying to get and I grimace.
I feel myself growing dizzier as I move back toward Leo and Casey, leaving poor Mikey to focus on creating that portal.
“Why’re you telling me this?” Casey asks softly, as if he were afraid to hear the answer. He takes the photo when Leo hands it to him.
“Because Mikey’s about to send you back in time to the day that the key was stolen.” Leo explains patiently.
“Wait…he’s gonna what?!”
“Casey, this is important. This is the last hope we have. If this fails…” I shudder. “But it won’t. You can make sure of that.”
“Exactly, now listen; the people who stole that key opened the doorway for the Kraang. You have to find it before that happens.” Leo continues as I watch Mikey strain, the process of cracking starting already as the portal weakly flickers to life.
I stifle a sob. There really is no other choice, but…my poor brother must be in so much pain...
I don’t have enough mystic energy to give him, even if the world weren’t tilting and spinning like crazy.
Shit…I’m not gonna last much longer…I’m so dizzy and lightheaded…
Damnit!
“Find the key, stop the Kraang.” That was the basis of our last hope, this last attempt to stop this madness.
Casey looks so lost and confused, I want to hug him, but I can barely focus on staying conscious now.
He puts the photo in his pocket. “But Sensei--” He protests, but Leo puts his hand on his shoulder.
“Say it!” Leo has to make sure Casey knows what to do.
I hate this! I hate this so much!
“Find the key, stop the Kraang.” Casey repeats, unable to deny Leo, even now.
Leo smiles at him, sadness clouding it as Leo pats the boy’s shoulder with his prosthetic arm.
“You’ll do great, kid.” I call weakly, trying to breathe through the dizziness.
Casey’s eyes soften in grief. “I don’t want to lose you…either of you.” The pain and fear in the kid’s voice make me sob, falling to my knees.
How could it have come to this?!
“Casey…it’s not about me.” Leo starts, but is interrupted by the Kraang robots preparing to engage us.
No! I can’t- -I have to..!
Somehow, I find the strength to stand, adrenaline clearing my senses somewhat.
My tessens try one last time to flicker to life, but I can’t even do that, so I just try to face the end with some small amount of dignity befitting a ninja of the Hamato clan.
“No!” Casey cries as another robot appears behind us.
“Mikey…” Leo calls.
I turn, even as Mikey notices the flaking already happening, gritting his teeth and straining harder.
“Master Michelangelo, no!” Casey cries, worried. “You’re gonna- -!” Casey can’t bring himself to say the word, but we all hear it anyway.
“I love you guys.” Mikey whispers, smiling and winking one last time at us before giving one last cry of anguish, ripping the portal open even as the last of his body explodes.
“Mikey!” I scream, unable to help it.
Just…promise to avenge Lupa for me, ok? I would keep that promise, no matter what.
Mikey’s sacrifice would not be in vain!
Seeking comfort, I bury my face in the crook of Leo’s neck, sobs wracking me even as the adrenaline starts slipping away, leaving me even more dizzy and lightheaded.
I fall to my knees again, Leo holding me and easing my way down, tears splashing on my head as we grieve our poor brother.
“Casey…when you’re done saving the world do me a favor?” Leo asks before I realize he’d stood and put his hand on Casey’s shoulder.
This is all so wrong, but at least there’s still a chance Casey can pull this off. We just have to get him through the portal, and I can try to get Leo through, too. Casey would need help, especially if I remember our team when we were younger.
I try to stand, but can’t manage it, falling weakly back to my knees as the red stains leak down my legs now, my shoulder aching horribly.
I don’t even notice the dogs leaping at us till I see Casey flying into the portal, tears in his eyes.
“Grab a slice!” Leo cries.
He holds off the dogs, then turns to me, his real hand extended in an offer of help.
I take it, unable to stand on my own. “Thanks.” I murmur, the words sluggish and odd on my tongue. Now, if I can just get--what?! No! Leo hoists me up with his prosthetic arm, the hand gripping my sash securely, even though I struggle. “Leo, no!” I feel tears already prickling my eyes. “You’re hurt! You can’t--”
“It’s ok, Ane. Just fix this.” Tears flow freely down my face, soaking my mask.
“No! We’ll go together!”
Leo just shakes his head. “Promise me you’ll stop this.”
“I…” I blink, swallowing hard. “You need to go, not me!”
He brings me in for a hug. “I wish I could, but someone has to draw them away.”
“I’m eldest! I need to--”
“And I’m the leader. I have to protect everyone I can.” My gashes and shoulder are on fire, but I still try to break free as Leo grips my shoulders. “Please, Asami. Let me do this.”
My breath hitches in a sudden understanding.
He’s blamed himself all this time for how things turned out, all because of one mistake he made, showing off when he was a teen...
He thinks he failed us.
So now this was his chance to make things right, according to him.
I kiss his forehead one last time like I had with Mikey, tears still flowing. “I love you.” I whimper, wanting this one moment to last forever. “I love you so much.”
“I love you, too. I’ll see you when things are better, ok?”
I nod shakily.
The world was suddenly spinning as Leo shoves me backward into the portal and the last thing I see is his smile before a blast from the Kraang disintegrates him.
“Leo, no!” I scream, even as white light encompasses me.
When the light fades, I’m in an alley, alone thankfully.
It was…quiet, the full moon illuminating the area somewhat.
I'm laying down, but I force myself to stand quickly, my reward the world spinning again as my body processes the last of my adrenaline.
I have to brace against the alley wall, the smell of blood lingering in the air as I feel myself continue to bleed.
Then, I grit my teeth, tears pricking my eyes at the intense feeling of helplessness hanging over me.
I then ball my fists. Leo’s sacrifice would not be in vain. I’d do what it takes to make sure the world is safe. I’d figure it out.
I start moving, agonizingly slowly. Reaching the end of the alley felt like a massive achievement, but I wasn’t anywhere near the Lair yet.
One step at a time, Asami…
I take a second to catch my breath and get my bearings, only to find myself losing my breath all over again at seeing New York City as it was when I was younger.
I never thought the city could be more beautiful…
Then, I feel myself growing fainter, continuing to struggle for breath, my legs wobbling as the world suddenly lurches and the ground rushes up to meet me.
Stars dance in my eyes, then all is silent darkness and I know no more…
=#=#=#=#=
(Young Asami's PoV)
It wasn’t often I went out to go for a run alone, but tonight was an exception.
I sometimes got a little stir-crazy down in the Lair, so I would come up by myself to clear my head and breathe fresh air for a little bit.
Never very long, but it always helps reorient me. And sometimes, I could stop punks from pickpocketing or shoplifting, so it was worth the slight worry at leaving the Lair without my siblings..or leaving them to train alone, like tonight. I hope Raph doesn’t let Leo get under his skin, as usual…
So far for me, though, things are quiet, but not necessarily in a good way. It's like the world is drawing in a breath, waiting in anticipation of…something.
I keep my eyes peeled, but didn’t see much out of place…
Suddenly, the sharp tang of blood in the air brings me to a halt. Someone was bleeding…a lot!
Instantly, I change direction, following that awful smell. I find myself overlooking an alley. At first, I didn’t see anything--whoa!
Someone, clearly not human, had just collapsed at the edge of the alley, out in the open for any passersby to see. I could just see a small puddle of red leaking from under her…
Luckily, it was late enough at night that there weren’t many people out.
I drop into the alley quickly, eyes looking for pedestrians but seeing none as I look the unfortunate mutant over.
The first thing I feel is fur beneath my hand.
The second thing I see are the ears, a little tattered, but very much canine.
The third thing I realize is this is a woman, and she’s unconscious, laying limp in my arms as I try to pick her up.
Shell, she’s still bleeding! I’ve got to get her to the Lair now! But she’s so heavy!
Gritting my teeth, I use her sash to wrap the worst of the wounds (a gaping wound on her left shoulder that looked suspiciously like some kind of gunshot. A really big gunshot…) and tie a tight knot. Her other wounds aren’t bleeding near as bad, so I don’t want to waste time on them til I can get her home.
Having done what I can for her here, I put her arms around my shoulders and try not to drag her feet too much as I backtrack down the alley to a manhole cover nearby.
How am I going to get her into the sewers? She’s so heavy…and she’s broader than I am. I guess I’ll try to climb carefully down and if I can’t, I’ll have to call Raph to catch her or something…
I sigh heavily. “Just hang on.” I murmur, even though I know this poor woman can’t hear me. “I’ll get you taken care of, I promise.”
Finally, I reach the manhole and crouch to pry it off. That done, I maneuver the both of us into position and shockingly, despite nearly claustrophobic conditions getting down into the tunnels, we managed it.
Now I just have to get her to the Lair…
I walk for what feels like hours but really is probably close to half an hour before I arrive home, panting heavily. “G-guys!” I call, eager to get some help moving this mystery mutant.
“Asami? Back alre-oh holy-moly!” Mikey is first to get to me, and I adjust my burden to let Mikey take a shoulder, sighing gratefully as some of the weight was taken off.
“Thanks, Mikey.” I gasp, trying to get my breathing under control.
“What happened?” Mikey asks and I hear the others coming to investigate after hearing Mikey’s cry.
“I don’t know! I found her collapsed in an alley. She’s bleeding really badly. I’ve got to get her into the lab.” I reply.
“Whoa!” Raph is scooping the mutant up before I knew how close he was. “What happened?!”
“I gotta get her to the lab, stat!” I retort as we hurry along, Raph carrying the woman easily.
Soon, she’s laying on the table I use to treat my siblings when they need it.
When we all get a good look at her, my heart skips a beat.
What the heck is this woman doing, wearing our clan symbol on her sash?! Her robe itself looks a bit like Splinter’s robe, actually, but tattered and bloodstained. Really bloodstained…most of it fresh…
“Alright, everyone out! I’ve got to stabilize her!” I preemptively cry, shooing my siblings out as they start to ask their multitude of questions all at once. “I don’t know any more than you do, so please just let me work!” I manage to get the door shut and sigh.
They were too curious sometimes, crowding around to see whatever was happening.
Quickly, I grab the first aid kit and set to work.
Thankfully, the sash bandage had done it’s work and stemmed some of the flow of blood, but she would probably need a blood transfusion.
Shell! What blood type is she?!
I remove her robe to get a look at the damage and realize with a jolt that her fur matches mine and Lupa’s to a T.
Too well to be coincidence, in fact…
Even her hair looks the same, albeit shorter than mine.
I swallow and grab a cotton pad to hold against the wound, realizing it was a bit larger than I thought and grabbed a second one.
I hear the door open and whirl. “I need to work! Get out!” I snap, then realize it was only Donnie as he closed and locked the door behind him.
He looks at me in confusion. “Mikey said something about a dying mutant?” He asks. I hadn’t even noticed he wasn’t part of the group I shooed out of the lab…
I take a breath. “Yeah. I found her in an alley. I don’t know what caused this wound but she’s bleeding out. I’m trying to keep pressure on it so I can stop the bleeding and stitch it, but Don…she’s gonna need a blood transfusion.”
He frowns, knowing as well as I do that it was difficult here. “Ok.” He nods anyway, nodding even as he moves to look at her. “I assume you don’t know her blood type?”
“Yeah, I found her unconscious.” I reply quickly. Thankfully, the pressure worked, and the flow is barely more than a drop.
“Alright, I’ll need a few drops of blood.” Donnie is already gathering the sample as I move as little of the pads as possible.
He moves quickly to the computer, sliding the sample into the small machine he had invented when we found out about blood types and wanted to see which ones we all had.
Finally, I inch the pads away and find the bleeding stopped. I grab a needle and thread. “Any results yet?” I ask, unable to wait as I reach the halfway point.
The longer she went without this transfusion, the less chance she has…
“Asami…her blood…” Donnie’s voice was small, disbelieving.
“What about it, Donnie?” I press impatiently, trying to finish this last stitch.
“It’s…it’s exactly like you and Lupa’s.” His voice is normal now, but unbelieving. And yet the computer doesn’t lie…
“What is going on?” I whisper to myself. “Ok.” I say louder. “I’ll have to use my blood, then.” We couldn’t keep a blood bank, unfortunately. The kind of freezer we’d need is rare…plus we hadn’t really had to give blood before.
I feel more than see Donnie staring at the woman and then at me and back again.
“What?” I ask.
“She looks…a lot like you.” Donnie murmurs.
I take a second from wrapping the gashes on her arms and leg to look at her face.
I hadn’t looked before, but…he’s right. If not for the fact that she’s bigger than me and outweighs me...she could be my twin.
She’s even wearing my mask, albeit tattered and dirty. How had I missed that before..?
“What in the world?” I breathe. She did look a lot like me, but I have never seen her before.
And she’s wearing Donnie’s goggles…or ones that look a lot like Donnie’s.
“I…I don’t know.”
I shake myself and finish wrapping her leg injury. “We’ll get the story when she wakes up. Don, I need you to set up the transfusion. I didn’t feel any other injuries or broken bones so all she needs is blood and rest.”
“Ami, you don’t have to…we can get Lupa…”
“You know she’s too impatient. And she hates needles.” I retort, grabbing a tourniquet. “Besides, I just ate. I’m fine to give blood.”
Don sighs, but knows better than to argue, swiftly grabbing the necessary needles and hose for an IV and the transfusion, hurrying around before handing the supplies to me.
“I don’t know what to do…” He worries, frowning as I roll up my sleeve and apply the tourniquet.
Before my arm starts to go numb, I grab a bottle of hand sanitizer I reserved for cleaning injection sites for vaccines (which were surprisingly hard to come by, but we’d somehow manged to stay somewhat up to date) and anything else I needed to sterilize in a rush.
“It’s ok. You just have to attach the hose and get the needle ready. I’ll be able to put it in her. Then I’ll need you to hook me up.” I rub the sanitizer into her elbow a few times to clear away the dirt, grime, and blood.
“Asami…” He looks ready to puke.
“I know. I’m sorry, but I can’t do it to myself. I need your help.”
He shudders, but swallows and does as I instruct. Moaning, Donnie hooks up the hose and then hands me the needle for the fascinating mutant on the bed.
I quickly find the vein, since thankfully her fur wasn’t very thick on the inside of her elbow. Just like mine…
Donnie then whimpers but grabs the needle. “Show me where to…” He tries not to gag, “to stick it.”
I move what fur there is aside after quickly sanitizing the area. “Here.” Thankfully, Donnie flips down his goggles and manages to get my vein in one try. He then retreats as if burned and immediately runs over to his side of the lab and uses his private hand sanitizer. “Thanks, Donnie.”
“Ugh it’s so gross!” He whines. “But…you’re welcome. I’ll come get you in half an hour, right?”
“Yup.” I grin at him. “I’ll be here. Thanks again for helping, Donnie.”
He shudders, but nods in acknowledgment before leaving the lab hurriedly.
He’s always hated anything to do with bodily fluids and textures he deemed disgusting.
Blood is close to the top of that list.
I sigh. I know I didn’t really have a choice, but I still feel bad.
I shake myself and set up the IV, then sit in the chair beside the table and sigh, absently squeezing a stress ball I kept in here for these situations.
Who had I found? What is going on? Is she…another of our ancestors? Then why was she a mutant? Or was she a yokai?
Ergh! Having no answers stresses me out!
I force myself to take deep breaths, and ease up my grip on the ball, finding my unoccupied hand automatically reaching for this woman’s in a gesture of comfort and reassurance.
Whatever she’d suffered was clearly meant to kill. She was incredibly lucky I found her…and that she has the same blood type--no, the same blood--as me. Which is another question I will have to ask her when she wakes up, I suppose.
I really hope I got to her in time…to try so hard and fail to save her…
I shudder. No! It was ok! I got to her in time! She’d just collapsed when I saw her, so I think she’ll be ok.
Or…I hope so. She seems so strong…she’s obviously a fighter, whoever she is.
The half an hour crawls by impossibly slowly, but around the 25-minute mark, the heart-rate monitor I’d put on her starts to spike, as well as the brain wave monitor.
She was waking up! Finally!
I’m so relieved, reading the monitors, I don’t see her eyes fly open, her hands reaching out, grabbing or clawing at anything she could reach.
“Leo, no!” Is the only thing I hear as I’m suddenly half-tackled, half-flopped on, and fall to the floor. “I have to…I…” her face contorts in pain and she collapses, pinning me beneath her.
‘She knows Leo?’ Is my first thought, followed by ‘Is she dead?!’ I grunt as I turn her over, half-straddling her as I examine her, my heart hammering.
She’d come this close to tearing my stitches, and the IV needle needed a little readjusting, but thankfully the stitches and bandages held and I sigh in relief as I barely manage to pick her up bridal style and lay her back down, pulling the sheets up- -
Her hand suddenly grabs my arm, startling me badly.
“Leo! I gotta get- -” She groans in pain, her eyes burning bright with exhaustion.
She’s gone way past her limit already, and she’s still fighting…
“Easy…you’re safe.” I tell her gently, my hand on hers in reassurance. “I swear.” I set aside my numerous questions and try to help her calm down.
“I…I have to…” She slurs worryingly, her eyes barely focusing. “Leo…”
“Listen, just rest. I promise no one can hurt you here.” I gently move her hair out of her face.
Her eyes…they’re so full of suffering. What the shell happened to her?!
“No, I…” She squeezes my arm with the last of her willpower as she slips back into merciful unconsciousness.
Poor thing…she’s so scared…
Why was she calling for Leo? What is going on?! It was like that was all she could think about. Something had to have happened to Leo…but what?
As far as I know, she’s never met Leo! Or…has she? Could this be someone from the- -hold on, that’s impossible! No one can time-travel!
…Right?
Thoughts swirl in my head, even as the others come in, this time having the sense not to crowd around the bed.
“We heard shouting and a thump.” Lupa murmurs uneasily. “Everything ok?”
I nod. “Yeah. She woke up briefly, fell off the bed, but it’s fine now.” Giving them what little information I have would only stress them out…especially the part where she knows Leo.
“So she’s gonna make it?” Mikey’s timid voice makes my heart clench.
When I decided to take on being the family medic, I tried to prepare myself for situations like this, someone’s life on the line, but…it hurts. I hate it!
“I…did everything I can. Now, all we can do is wait. She has to rest. The blood transfusion really helped, I think, but she’s not out of the woods yet. I’ll keep monitoring her.” I grab a few cotton balls and pull the needle out of my arm, applying pressure before raising my arm. After about thirty seconds or so, I lower my arm and quickly wrap the injection site, wishing I didn’t see Donnie squirm anxiously. “There’s nothing else I can do, so if someone can watch her for just a minute, I’m grabbing water.”
Lupa nods as the others shift their feet, unsure what to do. This whole thing has us all on edge…we’d never had someone this badly hurt in the lab before…not even after our fight against the Shredder. She’s honestly lucky she woke up at all.
I grab the glass of water and come back quickly, wondering why I didn’t see Dad. Probably because he was watching TV, oblivious to everything.
Should I tell him? …Maybe when she wakes up. After all, all I can tell Dad is that this woman looks a lot like me and Lupa, sharing our blood, as Donnie put it, and that she was as stable as I can get her. That’s not much to report.
I should get all the story before I tell Dad. Yeah…
“So…what do we do?” Lupa asks timidly when I resume my place beside my patient. Her eyes are fixed on my patient like she expected something to happen.
“I…don’t know, Lu. I need to stay here and monitor her vitals. Raph, she won’t fit in one of my shirts and she needs a change of clothes. Can I borrow one of yours for her?”
Raph looks at the woman on the bed, then nods. “Sure thing, Ane.”
I smile. “Thanks.” I turn to Lupa, who’s still staring at the mutant. “Hey.” I lift her chin. “It’ll be ok, you’ll see. She’ll wake up soon. We just have to be patient.”
She nods. “I know, it’s just…scary.”
“It is for me, too.” Everyone reluctantly filed out, leaving me once again alone.
Moments later, though, Raph comes in with the shirt I asked for.
He steps out for a moment while I get it on her, but then he comes back in, his worried expression making me wonder what else happened tonight.
“Thanks, Raph.” He stares at the woman worriedly. I smile at him. “Her vitals have stabilized for now. I’ve done all I can for her. She seems like a fighter, though, so with any luck, she’ll wake up soon and we can get her whole story.”
I side-hug my poor brother. As the eldest son, Raph felt a lot of responsibility for his siblings. As the eldest child of the clan, I felt it too.
And those feelings extend to those in our care. We may not know the strange mutant in front of us, but she’s our guest.
I just hope she’s as strong as she seemed when she sort of tackled me.
“Leo botched it tonight.” It’s an obvious change of topic, but one I accept easily.
“What?”
Raph sighs heavily. “Hypno and Warren stole some weird…thing from a museum or something and I tried to grab it, but Leo portal-chopped my mystic Raph and it rolled right over to the Foot Clan.”
I pale. “The Foot?!”
“Yeah. I don’t know where they came from or why they want that thing, but it can’t be good.” Raph huffs, crossing his arms, then slumps in defeat. “I just…I just don’t get why Leo can’t take things seriously!”
I put my hand on his chest soothingly. “Raph, he is just a teenager…”
“Donnie and Mikey are teenagers! They go along with the plan! Leo’s always the one screwing up!” He protests hotly. "And he's the leader now!"
I bite my lip. That had been the wrong thing to say. “I know. I get it, really. Some day, he’s going to have to learn responsibility and maturity. But…” I sigh. “I think it’ll take a lot to get it through his head.”
“I don’t know how much more I can take.” Raph sighs. “How did you deal with us all these years?” He moans, running a tired hand over his face.
“Honestly,” I laugh, patting his shoulder lightly. “sometimes I have no idea, but I’m glad I stuck it out, in the end. I think you will be, too. I’ll try to talk to him, ok?”
“Thanks, Ane.” He hugs me, and I hug him back.
“Anytime.”
He’d been coming to me for help more since the Shredder and though I didn’t always have the answers, I gave him the best advice I could and I am always happy to know Raph trusts me with his concerns and troubles.
April’s voice shatters the moment, however, grunting and panting as she comes into the Lair.
“Guys guys guys!”
We’re all on alert as we run out.
April is dragging some strange guy into the Lair, a weird hockey-esque mask over his face and a cape over his shoulders. His long black hair hides anything else we may see as April stops in the living area.
“April, what’s going on?” I ask, instantly looking over the second newcomer in our home tonight.
“Not another one!” Mikey moans, pale with worry.
I sigh with relief. “He’s alright. April probably just got the jump on him and knocked him out.” I report to everyone’s shared relief.
April looks at me. “What did Mikey mean ‘not another one’?” She asks, concerned. “What’s going on?”
“I found a mutant bleeding out in an alley and brought her back here.” I don’t tell her about the Hamato symbol yet as I pick the boy up. “So what do we do?”
April grabs him before I can protest or resist and plops him on a chair. “We tie him to the chair and when he wakes up, we gotta make him talk! He” she digs in her pocket, “he had this!” She pulls out- -
“What the--?!” I squeak, startled to see what looks like a Hamato family photo, but…I don’t remember taking it! Regardless, though, why does that kid have it?! How does that kid have it?!
Suddenly, I get a sick feeling in my stomach and jog back to the lab. The woman’s robe…I hadn’t thought to look in it, not even after everything had settled down a bit.
What if…
I gasp. There, blood staining just a little of the top edge, was a copy of that same family picture, as tattered as the one in April’s hand…
And were those…tessens?
What the shell is going on?!
“Guys, look at this! Whoever’s in the lab has a copy, too!” I call, coming back out. April grabs rope as we all process this, the room filled with silence.
“Asami, help me tie this kid to the chair. He’ll wake up soon.” She says, determined to get to the bottom of this.
Reluctantly, I help her.
“What is going on?!” Dad demands from the other side of the room.
“We found some strange people, Dad, and they have our family picture.” I report quickly, tying off the last knot.
Dad moves swiftly, grabbing the photo I’d borrowed from that woman. “Is this..?” Dad’s voice is worried, eyes wide, and I know he knows what the stain is.
“Yeah. She’s in the lab. I’ve done all I can for her.” I reply concisely.
“Good. When this boy wakes, we will get answers from him.” Dad says seriously. Then turns to April. “I heard you come in, April. Did you find him?”
She nods. “Yeah. He snuck up on me at the college.” She explains.
I can’t help a smile. “Cat-like reflex?” I tease.
April smiles proudly at me. “Cat-like reflex.”
“Then you decided to bring him here?” Dad asks, bringing us back to the matter at hand. He’s taking this seriously…
“Yeah, Splints! He was tryna jump me! And then I saw that picture and I brought him here!”
I put a hand on her shoulder. “It’s fine, April. You did good.”
She sighs, but manages a smile at me.
Who are these two? What do they have to do with our clan? And why is that woman so hurt? All these unanswered questions make my head hurt…
“Sensei?” A weak male voice breaks my thoughts and I whirl, even as Leo gasps, drawing back with a katana in his hand.
“Relax, Leo, he can’t hurt you.” I grumble automatically as everyone registers that our new guest is awake.
The boy’s eyes go wide. “It’s you! All of you! Together!” He cried, elated, tears in his eyes.
“What?” He was…what did he mean ‘all of you together’? And why was he crying?
“I never thought I’d see you again!”
My heart skips a beat. What the heck?! “Slow down, kid!” I call, stepping forward.
Heedless of my advice, the boy laughs. “I’m so happy I could hug you!” He leans forward to do just that, but then he realizes he’s tied to a chair and flops harshly to the ground.
Before I can help him up, Raph grabs the back of the chair, hauling the boy up with a hard look in his eyes.
The projector falls to its place, whirring to life and giving Raph some backlight.
“Who are you and why do you have a picture of us?” Raph demands, showing the kid the picture.
The boy’s eyes seem to wince, but he keeps his face carefully calm.
Leo is suddenly at Raph’s shoulder. “Yeah, who took this? Cus I look great!”
I pull Leo away. “Not helping!” I grumble.
I don’t miss the way the kid’s eyes linger on me, Leo, and Mikey a few seconds longer than anyone else, a hidden pain making my heart ache. What could possibly have happened to this kid?
Everyone crowds around the kid, asking dumb questions (well except Donnie. He asked why the kid was wearing genius-built apparel, grumbling that it was trademarked) when through the chaos I hear a small voice.
“Casey…”
I whirl, and see the woman from the lab, pale and weary, but leaning on the doorway to the lab, her IV mercifully beside her.
I don’t register that her voice was so much like mine.
All I know is she’s straining herself when she needs rest.
“Hey, you shouldn’t be up!” I scold, flipping to avoid some kind of grapple hook this kid apparently had tucked into his gloves.
“I have to…I have to tell you…” Her voice is straining hard, but she tries to keep walking as things seem to settle behind me.
“No! That can wait.”
“It can’t.” Something in her voice has me tucking her arm around my shoulders, the IV pole in my other hand.
“Ok, then…if you’re sure.”
We make our way down to the others when I see our guest is now swinging from the grapple hook’s line.
Guess it hooked the ceiling…
“Master Asami!” The teen cries. “You gotta let me down!” He cries desperately, eyes only on the woman in my charge as he tries to get free of the chair.
Master…Asami?!
Silence hangs over the room as I settle Asami (if Casey is right, that is) in front of the kid, Donnie cutting the kid down from the ceiling.
“Hey, kid.” She greets.
“What’re you…I thought you…” It’s obvious these two know and care about each other, judging by this reunion.
The kid holds still as Asami brings out a knife and cuts the kid loose, gathering him into a hug.
“I’m here.” Is all she says, leaving us all worried and confused.
The kid seems to think this woman was…
I gulp, eyes hardening. Time for answers. “Alright, look. You two better start talking, cus this is just getting more and more confusing."
For the first time, I really look at this woman and see not only her age (if I had to guess, around 40) but her intense relief and…sadness at seeing us. That, and she looks so much like me…even wearing my mask…
Could it be..?
“I know.” The woman says softly, withdrawing from the boy reluctantly, keeping a hand on his shoulders. “This is weird for me, too.” She takes a deep breath and winces, her good hand tightening on Casey’s shoulder, a movement noticed by the boy.
“Here, sit down.” He offers gently, grabbing the chair he’d just been freed from and easing the woman into it, pulling her IV pole over as well.
“Thanks, kid.” The woman murmurs gratefully, smiling at him as he pats her shoulder.
Confident the woman was settled, he turns to us. “Let’s start over.” He begins. “My name is Casey Jones, and this…well, I guess there’s no easy way to say this…this is Asami.”
We all stare for several long seconds.
Most of my family bursts out laughing at the ridiculous and impossible statement, but I feel a chill of foreboding up my spine.
If they’re from the future, that means something really bad is coming…at least, according to time travel movies.
“Quiet!” I snap. I rarely yelled and even rarer out of frustration and anger, but this was different. The result was instant; everyone looks at me, a bit shocked. “Hear them out before deciding how plausible the story is.” I look from one to the other before turning to Casey. “You were saying?”
Asami (wow this is weird…)’s startled laughter catches us all off guard. “Oh, how I missed this…” She murmurs, her eyes shining with something unreadable. “Listen, guys, I know how this sounds, but you have to hear us out.” The mirth is suddenly gone, leaving steely determination in its wake. “Casey has that grappling hook cus you gave it to me, Donnie, and I gave it to Casey, but not yet. As I’m sure my younger self has pieced together…we’re from the future.”
Everyone nearly starts guffawing again, but my older self’s hard gaze belays that notion.
“B-but that’s impossible!” Donnie stammers, trying not to laugh. “No one can--”
“It’s a long story, Donnie,” Something painful flashes in Big Asami’s eyes but it’s gone an instant later, “but trust me when I say we are from the future and we don’t have a lot of time.”
“If you’re really from the future, if time travel were possible…” Donnie begins cockily, “Future me would’ve already come back and given me all the lottery numbers, like we planned.”
Big Asami laughs. “Oh yeah! I convinced you that was a stupid idea.” Her eyes lose a bit of their spark, but her smile remains carefully in place. “Time travel isn’t something to use lightly.” Her voice was trying so hard to be carefree, but I could tell something pained her about time travel. “Now, listen. Humanity depends on us.” Her voice is steely again, and I find I don’t like it.
“We’re listening.” I assure her, turning my eyes to each of my family members to make sure they got my message.
“Thanks, little me.” She chuckles, then faces the family as a whole, that awful steeliness in her eyes again, creeping into her voice. “In the future, an alien race has decimated the planet. They…” She swallows, the steel turning to fear. “They attacked so fast and so hard, we couldn’t stop them.” Her voice is now soft, but no one has trouble hearing her. “Those that survived the initial attack were rounded up, sent to some kind of labor camps.” She shudders. “We barely managed to avoid capture, driven into caves with anyone we could save.”
“We had to eat leaves and rats.” Casey adds, pretending to gag. “It’s awful…no offense.” Casey looks at Dad like he expected Dad to be mad, but Dad just shrugs.
“None taken. We are delicious!”
I roll my eyes.
“Leo gave us a mission, coming back here. We’ve got to try to stop the invasion before it happens.” Big me continues.
“I did, huh?” Leo’s brows rise cockily.
“Not now!” I bark back. I nod grimly as I turn back to my future self. “We’ll stop it.” I assure her despite not being sure how to do that…
“Aliens? Pfft!” April guffaws, rolling her eyes. “Suuurre. This story just keeps getting better and better.”
“April, why would, uh, I lie about this?” I point out, and she looks a bit sheepish as I turn to the newcomers again. “Do you know what aliens they were- -are?”
Big Asami swallows hard, her eyes now fearful. “I do.” She takes a breath as if to gather her courage. “They’re called…the Kraang.”
From the look in her eyes and the tone in her voice she thinks we ought to know that name, but…I don’t. I glance around to see if anyone else recognizes--
”Dad?” I ask, seeing Dad pale, turning off the projector with a shaky hand.
“Splints?” April asks.
“The Kraang?” Dad whimpers, eyes wide and filled with terror.
Big Asami rises before I can say anything, walking over to Dad with hardly any sign of her injuries. She crouches in front of him, eyes sad. “I’m sorry, but it’s true.”
“Alright, who are the Kraang and how does Dad know them?!” Lupa demands hotly, hating being in the dark.
“Lupa, enough.” Big Asami says it automatically over her shoulder before I can. “The Kraang are the most evil force in the universe, worshiping strength and brutality.” She explains, shuddering again, her good hand twitching toward her shoulder.
Had the Kraang hurt her..?
“They are worshiped by the Foot Clan.” Dad picks up, leaning back in his chair and trying to collect himself. “Legend says they came from the stars. Ruthless, unmerciful, with one desire; to enslave our world like so many before us.”
Big Asami grimaces as she stands. “They are relentless, cruel, barbaric in their domination.”
“How were they stopped before, then?” I ask, paling with worry.
“Great mystic warriors forged a mighty weapon, a key that was used to lock them in a prison dimension beyond this realm.” Dad swallows. “Over the centuries, this mystic key remained hidden to protect humankind and prevent the return of the Kraang.”
We all stare at Big Asami and Casey.
“So you’re telling the truth?” April asks, stunned. “You two are really from the future?”
“I wish I wasn’t, believe me. We’re in for a harder fight than the Shredder. We don’t have much time.” Future me replies firmly.
“Mind…” Mikey imitates an explosion as he processes these revelations.
“You can say that again…” Lupa murmurs worriedly, hugging herself.
“Leo drew a picture of the key on the back of the photo he gave Casey, just in case we needed it.” Future me continues. “Where’s Casey’s picture?”
I wince. If I wasn’t referring to it as Leo’s picture…
I shake myself. No time for that now…maybe later.
“We gotta hurry!” Casey adds, “Someone finds the key! Today! They use it to open a doorway and free the Kraang! That’s why…we came back. To find it first!” His face is determined, but when he said ‘we’ he hesitated. Was Asami coming back with Casey not part of the plan? Or just not part of the plan Casey was told?
I don’t miss Raph’s eyes going wide, either, like he was realizing something.
“All we have to do is find that key before it’s stolen and used. If we can keep it here, safe, we can stop this invasion before it ever begins. We can save the world.” Future me adds, even as Raph turns over the picture in his hand, Donnie and Mikey looking around Raph to see the Key.
Their eyes harden and they glare to Leo.
I pale. Raph mentioned Leo botching something…the Foot getting away with whatever Hypno and Warren stole…
“Oh no…” I whimper, noticing Future me paling as well.
“Leo already botched it?!” She hisses with a frustrated groan. “I remember Raph telling me about it! Ergh!”
“Wait…what’s going on?” Casey asks, fearing he already knows the answer.
Leo turns to my future self. “If I hypothetically did make a mistake and let the Foot get away, big Asami, what, uh, what would you- -”
“Leo, this is serious!” Future me barks, eyes wide in fear and irritation as she stands, towering over Leo. “You don’t get it! If we don’t keep that gateway closed, the earth is doomed!”
“It’s not too late!” Raph calls, holding up the picture of the key as Leo backs away, looking a little scared. “We already know who has the key; the Foot Clan!”
Future me groans, sitting back down and holding her shoulder, but lets Raph continue. “Okay, team, we gotta find ‘em before they use it, and this time” Raph glares pointedly at Leo, “we do it together.” He pokes Leo’s chest to emphasize his point.
Everyone starts filing out of the living area to start finding the Kraang when Leo mocks Raph, frowning.
Before I can react, future me stands and grabs Leo’s mask tails, eyeing him sternly and shaking her head before letting him go.
Leo leaves, subdued.
I walk over to Future Me.
“C’mon. You need more rest.” I mumble, extending a hand to help her, but she smacks my hand aside.
“No!” She glares at me. “I don’t need rest! This is why I came back! I have to--”
“Oh no, you don’t!” I stand in her way, arms out as she tries to get past me. “You almost died! If I hadn’t found you and given you a blood transfusion you’d be dead! That shoulder wound almost took your arm off!”
She frowns at me, clearly weighing her odds of getting past me. “I’ve fought through worse.”
“No you haven’t.” I narrow my eyes. “You need rest.” I insist.
“Master Asami…please.” Casey pipes up, making big me wince a little.
“Casey, I’ll be fine. I can’t just sit here- -”
“Trust me. We can stop the invasion. Just please take care of yourself.” I interject. “You already warned us about the Kraang. Now all we got to do is get the key from the Foot before the Kraang are unleashed.” I shrug. “We’ll take Casey, but you need to lie down. Blood loss isn’t something to take lightly. Neither is that wound on your shoulder.”
Asami stands there, warring internally before finally gritting her teeth. “I…” She hangs her head. “I know I would only be a liability with my injury.” She grumbles, probably partly to herself. “I…shouldn’t go. But you know I hate this.”
I smile at her in understanding as Casey helps her toward the lab. “I do know, but I don’t want you to get more hurt.”
Despite wanting to help plan, intense curiosity creeps up in me so I stealthily move to eavesdrop in the lab once Casey’s got her inside.
“-you back, didn’t he?” Casey was asking.
“He did. I tried to send him back, but you know how stubborn he is.”
I frown. What?
Casey chuckles, and I hear the sound of sheets being pulled up. “Yeah.” He sighs. “...Master Asami?”
“Yeah, kid?”
“I’m glad you’re here, and that you’re gonna be ok.”
Future me chuckles. “Me too, kid. I wish I could’ve gotten Leo here, too, but that just wasn’t in the cards.”
My eyes go wide. Hadn’t Leo sent them back? I assumed since he was the portal guy…
What in the world?
“You gonna be ok?” Casey asks. “I mean…with seeing them again? I can’t imagine how weird this is for you.”
“Believe me, this is super weird, but it’s also…really good. I missed them all so much…this is like a dream come true, even if the world is in danger again.”
My heart drops. What?!
I hear shuffling that might be a hug. “We’ll stop the invasion, I promise.” Casey promises.
“I know. Give ‘em hell for me, ok?”
“Hai, Master!” Casey was clearly trying to lighten the mood, and somewhat succeeds, judging by the chuckle he earns from my future self. “You just take care of yourself.”
“Alright, kid. I will. Go help save the world.”
Casey shifts, probably saluting or something, then walks toward the door. I duck into the shadows and move quickly toward the others.
For my future self’s sake, I really hope this mission goes well…

(Best I could find. I wanted to find a GiF of the title card, like for my 2003 fanfic, but alas)
“Join me, my children, for tonight, I have something special to tell you.”
Those words prompted us to sit in a line, as usual when Dad tells us a story.
“What is it?” I ask, unable to help it.
“Presents, Sensei?” Mikey asks, waving eagerly.
I laugh, but Raph’s the one that speaks up. “Shh!” He hisses. “Quiet, Mikey!”
“Cool!” Donnie chirps, ignoring the others as Dad sat cross-legged to begin whatever lesson or story he wanted to share with us. “I love storytime!”
‘Storytime’ had become an evening tradition to calm the kids down before bed, and afterward Dad and I would sit up for a little while, talking and planning the next day’s adventures. Although he was starting storytime a bit early tonight…
“I wanna learn more about Japan, Master Splinter!” Leo adds, always eager to know more about where we’d come from. I barely remember anything from back then, so I always left it to Dad to tell the boys and Lupa stories of our previous home.
“Not tonight, Leonardo.” Dad replies, then continues setting up the story he’d tell. “I’ve told you before how we all came to be together,” He begins, smiling, “but I have not told you everything.”
“What else is there?” Lupa asks, head tilted in confusion.
Dad doesn’t tell the whole mutation story again, just the basics, knowing we all knew it pretty much by heart.
My skin tingles a little as glimpses from back then come back, though it was just a few years ago.
The small pet store.
The baby turtles.
The strange man.
The feeling of his hands on my wrist, his grip bruising me…
The creepy glow of the ooze as it sloshed in the canister…
That awful tingling, aching feeling all over my body as it morphed and changed...
=#=#= The Night of the Mutation =#=#=
Why was Daddy walking with that man? He isn’t going home…
But if Daddy thinks it’s ok, I want to go with Daddy!
When the man goes to hide, Daddy looks at me and lets me hug his leg.
That man is scary…
“Musume, I need you to stay here and out of sight, do you understand? Be neither seen nor heard.”
“Hai.” I wonder why Daddy was whispering, but I guess if he is, I should too.
Daddy then smiles before standing, walking away. I wonder where he’s going, so I look into the road Daddy was walking down. There were more of those scary men, holding weird things.
One of them has a puppy! It’s in a cage, and it looks so sad! A man takes the puppy out of the cage, and there’s something weird the other man is holding. It glows! I don’t like it!
I have to get the puppy! “Let go of the puppy!” I yell, running to get the puppy, but Daddy grabs my arm.
“Asami, no!” He looks scared, so I stay behind Daddy’s legs as the scary men come toward us.
I see the puppy running away and catch it, holding on as Daddy tries to leave.
One of the men grabs me and starts taking me to the weird thing! “No! I don’t wanna go!” I yell again, but I can’t get away from that mean man! “Daddy!”
“Leave her be!” Daddy sounded scary, but he makes the man fall down, then Daddy picks me up, and I see the puppy still in my arms as Daddy hurts the mean man.
“Behind you, Daddy!” I tell him as a man tries to hurt Daddy, but Daddy kicks and the man falls down, that weird thing falling down, too.
It breaks and the weird glowing stuff falls on me and Daddy! It hurts a lot! I start crying, trying to find Daddy again, but I can’t see him!
Finally, it stops hurting, but I still don’t see--I am soon in Daddy’s lap, but something feels different. Daddy feels like a blanket…
“Musume?” Daddy asks, his voice a little different, but still Daddy.
“Daddy?”
“We cannot stay here, Asami. We have to leave.”
“But the puppy, daddy…and the turtles.” I see them sitting in the stuff that fell on me and Daddy. They look different…Daddy had to set me down, walking over to them, and he grabs a box from the big trash can with a lid and puts the turtles in it, along with the puppy.
Daddy led us to the top of the building, settling the box up there first before helping me climb up.
“Where are we going, Daddy?” I ask, unsure what was happening, feeling sleepy and...funny. My ears made a funny noise and my head hurt.
The breeze felt really weird now and my clothes were almost all gone.
“Somewhere safe, Musume. Not much farther.” Daddy assures me, so I grab his leg and keep walking.
I wonder if we’re going home, but then Daddy spots something on a different roof. He hums and then looks around. He tells me to sit with the box and he walks away, but he soon comes back with some rope. He uses the rope to put the box on his back.
He picks me up and tells me to grab his shoulders and wrap my legs around his waist. Then, he leaps across to the metal thing on the new building and I get down. I climb up and when we were on the top, Daddy unties the box, but still holds it in his hands.
I yawn. “I’m tired, Daddy. My head hurts.” I tell him, rubbing my eyes.
Daddy keeps walking.“I know, Asami. We just need to get to that structure,” He nods toward something not far away. “then we can all sleep.”
“...Ok, Daddy.” I grab his leg again and walk. Daddy has to help me into the thing, and then he puts something over where we came in and lays down with his back where we came in, putting the box with the pets closer to him. “Sleep, Musume.” He says, and I’m so tired, I lay down next to him and fall asleep.
The sun wakes me up and it hurts my eyes, so I rub them.
“My eyes hurt, Daddy.” I say and Daddy hugs me.
“I’m sorry, Asami.”
“Can we go home?” I ask.
“I’m afraid not, little one.” Daddy replies.
“Why not?” I ask.
“Because we are different. The world can’t understand us. They will try to hurt us, and they will take us away if they find us.”
“But Daddy, I wanna go home!”
“Asami, please. If anyone finds us, they will take us and the pets away, and we don’t want that, do we?”
I shake my head. “No, Daddy.” He hugs me, putting me in his lap. “This is strange, I know, Asami. I do not like it, either. But, I may be able to get into our apartment and get some things for you, alright?”
I nod. “Ok, Daddy.” My tummy then makes a loud noise.
Daddy messes with my hair, laughing. “But first, it seems, we need to find breakfast. Can you make sure the, er, pets stay in the box? I must find food.”
I nod, happy Daddy gave me a job. “Hai!” And then, Daddy was gone. It takes a while for him to come back and the pets were just waking up when he came back. “Daddy!” I cry, hugging him. He messes with my hair again.
I see Daddy is wearing his red robe. I always liked that robe
“I am back. I went to our home for food, and some other things.” He hands me a bag and I look inside to see some clothes. “Let’s see if they fit, Musume.” He says, smiling. The pants ripped, since my feet are so big now, and Daddy had to make a hole in the back.
I then see I had a tail like the puppy I got from those mean men! “Daddy, I have a tail!” I tell him, grabbing it and letting go when it hurt.
“Yes. And so does the puppy we found.” Daddy says. I look in the box and see that, yes, the puppy does have a tail like me, and it’s awake. Daddy brings it out. “Here, they are awake; they’ll need food.” He says and I give them bits of banana, eating one for myself.
“Is the puppy a girl or a boy?” I ask, giving it more banana.
“Girl, Asami.” Dad replies.
“Are the turtles girls too?” I ask.
“No, they are boys.”
“All of them?”
“Yes, all of them.”
“Why do they have backpacks?” I ask, pointing to the weird backpacks on the turtles’ backs.
“Those are called shells. It keeps the turtles safe from harm. It protects the turtles like armor when they are in danger.”
I eat more banana. “That’s so cool!”
After we were all done eating, Daddy went out to get more things from our home and soon we had books, a lamp to light up the place we were in, blankets, mats, and more food.
There are a lot of things in the space now, so I didn’t feel as bad staying here instead of at home, but I still wish I had my room and my toys.
I miss home.
=#=#=#=#= (A Few Nights Later) =#=#=#=#=
I don’t like it when Daddy leaves, but I know he has to. He has to find food and other stuff we need. I don’t like having to stay inside the small place we are staying in, but Daddy says bad men will come and take us away if someone sees us, so I guess we have to stay here.
Sometimes, when Daddy is here, we get to go down to the roof and play. But only sometimes, when Daddy says its safe.
Daddy also says he’s looking for a different place for us to stay. I don’t know why though. This place is cool!
One night, after Daddy got back with food, I hear a strange noise outside. I look at Daddy, and he has the sword he sometimes takes with him when he goes to find food.
“Daddy?” I ask, trying to hug him. I’m scared, but Dad only throws a blanket over our light and draws the sword before opening his arm to me. I run over as the strange noise gets closer.
“Be silent, Musume.” He says very quietly to me and I nod. He moves us aside as weird purple light comes into the room and he kneels down as the light stays for a little bit, then it goes away. Then, one of the turtles burps really loudly and I cover my ears. “Stay here!” Dad says, quietly, before he kicks...something and jumps outside.
I watch as Daddy tries to stop a bad thing from seeing all of us...I think. Daddy wins, then comes back up to where we were.
“Asami, this place is too dangerous now. We must find another haven to hide!” He puts the pets into the box he used when we first came here.
“What’s a haven?” I ask.
Daddy grabs my hand. “Somewhere safe, now come!” There was one more turtle trying to get food out of the bag of food Daddy had brought for us. “No, no time for food! We must go!” He puts the turtle with the other pets and grabs my hand again.
We go down the metal thing on the building and Daddy makes sure people don’t see us.
He helps me put on a jacket, zip it up, and put the hood on before he looks around. He comes back quickly and then puts me and the box into a cart (I remember carts from when Daddy and I would go shopping...before we had to go away).
“Stay here. I will get our things from the water tower and be back in a moment.” I nod and yawn a little as Daddy leaves.
Nothing happens and soon Daddy is back with a few bags that he puts in the cart with us, and Daddy starts pushing it down the sidewalk.
“Can I get out, Daddy?” I ask, trying to take my hood off. I was getting hot.
“No, Asami. You must stay inside the cart.” Daddy replies. “And keep your hood on.”
“Why?” I ask. “I’m hot and I wanna walk.”
“Because people cannot see that you and I are different. If they do, they will take us away and I won’t be able to protect you. Do you understand?”
“...Yes, Daddy.” I don’t like my hood, but I sit down and wait for us to find the safe place Daddy wants to find, the haven.
Daddy lets us eat the food in the bag as he walks and I gave him some banana he looks happy to eat. Then we ride in the cart as Daddy keeps walking.
The pets began to make noise and Daddy stops walking, opening the top of the box. “Be silent! Look to me; never be seen! Never be heard!”
I try to do what Daddy says and be quiet. There were stairs down into the ground, but Daddy heard men coming and we had to leave. Daddy makes sure they don’t see us.
Then, we find somewhere there are no people and we can finally stop.
“Can I get out now, Daddy?” I ask, hoping to go walk.
“Yes, Musume. Just for a few minutes, then we must leave and find somewhere to take shelter for a while.” Daddy says and lifts me down, taking my hood off too. “Do not go where you cannot see me.” He tells me and I nod.
“Hai, Daddy.” I go and walk around a little, then all of a sudden I hear people coming and run back to Daddy just as the men spot us. “Daddy!” I get picked up even as the scary men start talking.
“Mutant organism.”
Daddy puts me in the cart, putting my hood back up and putting a finger to his lips to tell me to be quiet.
I nod and watch as Daddy turns back to the men. I don’t know what they’re saying, but Daddy grabs a broom and starts fighting like Daddy and Uncle Saki used to. I loved watching Daddy fight!
Then there were pink lights everywhere and I was scared, so I sit back in the cart. Daddy is hurt and the mean men try to hurt Daddy more, so I grab Daddy’s camera and make the light go bright in the man’s face.
Daddy then grabs one of the things he tells me never to touch, a weapon, but one of the turtles is on it! Daddy then puts the thing and the turtle back into the cart and runs away with more of those pink lights chasing us.
Daddy keeps running, but the men keep running behind us! “Asami, duck!” Daddy tells me and I do, watching as whatever Daddy throws breaks something and it falls on the men.
“Yay!” I want to hug Daddy, but I can’t cus he’s running.
When we stop again, Daddy has to move a piece of metal and then he moves the cart inside.
“This will do…for now.” He says.
“Is this a haven, Daddy?” I ask as Daddy gets me out of the cart.
“Yes, Asami.”
=#=#=#=#=
When the sun goes down, Daddy has food and we eat while Daddy moves stuff.
I eat all my food and try to move boxes with him.
“Thank you, Musume.” Daddy says, smiling at me. I smile back and move more boxes with Daddy until I see the pets crawling around and getting in the way.
I pick the puppy up and carry her over to where we’d already moved boxes. I see the turtles all playing together and one of them has two cords, and the turtle figured out the way to turn a lamp on with the cords.
“Wow!” I sit beside the turtles and look at the lamp, happy we had a little more light.
“Yes, that was impressive, smart one.” Daddy says and smiles at the pets. I yawn, feeling sleepy, and lay down, too tired to keep helping Daddy.
“It appears meditation is out of the question for now.” Daddy’s voice makes me open my eyes and I see he’s a little mad, with the turtles all over him and Lupa in his lap, trying to chew his robe.
“Oh, no! Sorry, Daddy!” I run over and help Daddy get the turtles off him and Lupa into my lap instead.
“It is alright, my child. I never instructed you to keep them away. And I do not need meditation at the moment. Let me see…” He digs in the cart and brings out blankets. “Come, Asami.” I walk over, yawning again as Daddy makes a bed. I lay down. “Lay down, Musume. It has been an adventurous day. You need rest.”
“What about the pets?” I ask, sitting up.
Daddy smiles, patting my head. “Do not worry, Asami. I can put them to bed on my own.” He then looks over at the rest of the things we had from our old home.
I yawn as he walks over and soon he is back with a book.
“Oh, are we gonna do bedtime stories, Daddy?” I ask. I love bedtime stories!
“Not exactly.” Daddy says, opening the book. “It occurred to me that we have not named these creatures. They need proper names.”
I come to sit in Daddy’s lap as he keeps looking in the book.
“Like Asami?” I ask.
Daddy laughs. “Yes, something like that.” He finds the part of the book he wants and shows me. “Now, when I was a child, I wanted to be an artist. So it seems appropriate to name the turtles after the painters of my favorite period in art; the Renaissance.”
“What’s a rena-sants?” I ask.
Daddy laughs more. “I will tell you when you grow a little, but perhaps these creatures will grow up to be something great.” He places the book down and the turtles crawl over, the puppy left to try to look over their shells. “I will name you Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo.”
“Those are cool names!” I tell Daddy.
“Yes, and now all that remains is the wolf.” He picks up the puppy and thinks for a while. “I also studied the mythologies of different cultures out of curiosity. Perhaps your name could be Lupa, after the Roman goddess of the wolves, since you are more than any wolf could hope to be.”
“I like it! C’mere, Lupa!” I say, holding up my arms to hold Lupa. Daddy puts her in my lap. I look at the turtles. “Leonardo, Don'tello, Raphy-el, and Miche--” This one was hard, “Mike-ang-lo.”
“Very good, Asami. Now, I believe it is bedtime.” I yawn as Daddy carries me and Lupa to the blankets he put out for me.
Lupa gets sad when he tries to take her though, so he lets her stay with me and goes to the turtles.
He looks around as they start falling asleep, and finds a box big enough for them. My eyes are sleepy and they close all by themselves as Lupa falls asleep too…
=#=#=#=#=
I like the new place we’re in!
There was more room to run around and play without being seen when I wasn’t helping Daddy, eating, or sleeping.
Sometimes, Daddy lets me watch the turtles and Lupa while he moved heavy boxes and helped us have even more room!
And then sometimes Daddy would practice fighting! It was so cool! I start trying to practice fighting too and would try to follow Daddy’s movements, but it was so hard! I fell a lot, but Daddy always says if you can get up from a fall, you’d be stronger, so I keep getting up and trying again.
Daddy tries to help me and it was so fun learning how Daddy practices fighting!
“Well done, Asami. I am impressed.”
I smile so big at Daddy! “Thank you!” I hug his leg. The turtles and Lupa come over too. I laugh. “I think they want a hug too.”
“Yes, so it would seem.” Daddy hugs us all and I feel so happy!
“Daddy?”
“Yes, Asami?”
“Are the turtles and the puppy like Miwa was?” Daddy said Miwa and Mommy are angels now, watching over us from the sky, but I wish they could have stayed. “Are they my sissys now?”
Daddy sits down, a sad look on his face. “Yes, Asami. They...are called your siblings, and they are your family.” He looks at me, hands on my shoulders. “Family is the most important thing. You are learning the way I fight so that you can help me protect your siblings, help me keep them safe. Do you understand, Asami?”
I nod. “I think so, Daddy.”
“Good. When they are a little older, I will begin their training, but for now, I will only train you, and let the others follow our lead if they can.” He stands up, and we keep practicing for a little longer.
Then, we have dinner and I play with my siblings until Daddy says it’s time for bed.
Before bed, Daddy and I talk about ways I can say the turtles’ hard names. Leonardo can be called Leo, Raphy-el can be Raph, Don'tello can be Donnie, and Mike-ang-elo can be Mikey.
I practice the new names and then my eyes get sleepy and I go to bed.
Daddy lets me watch them when we wake up so he can go find food and I think some more stuff from our old house. My siblings are just waking up when he gets back and we all eat sausage and some bread Daddy found.
Then it’s more practice fighting! After we were all done, Daddy said I did a good job and that my siblings were improving as well. Then he picks them all up in a big hug.
I hug his leg, laughing. “My children…” He says with a big smile. Then there was a loud noise and Daddy moves backward as I hide behind his leg.
I look and see more of those men Daddy ran away from before! “Daddy!”
I start crying. They were so scary!
I think they were talking, but I don’t know what they’re saying as Daddy picks me up with the turtles. I grab Lupa’s hand, and we are put in the cart quickly as Daddy finds a way outside and away from the bad men.
Daddy takes us to some stairs going into the ground and we start sliding down. It was scary and bumpy, but Daddy stopped the cart and it was ok.
The men find us again, but Daddy runs away from the bad men and makes sure the men wouldn’t find us before he kisses my forehead and goes to fight them.
They couldn’t see Daddy but I could! Sometimes he came out and hurt one of them, and they fell down! It was awesome, but I know I have to be quiet or the bad men will find us and Daddy and I don’t want that.
Daddy soon comes back and we are going back up the stairs but a weapon gets stuck in the wheel and we couldn’t move!
“No! Not now!” Daddy says, and he seems scared. I try to help him, but my arm is too little and I can’t reach what Daddy’s trying to fix. “Asami, no!” Daddy says, but then something big and scary appears at the top of the stairs.
“Daddy!”
Daddy looks at the thing and tries to move us away but we go too fast and I fall out of the cart.
It hurt and I bounced a lot, but I think I’m ok, so I start trying to get up when my leg starts hurting. I get up anyway and my leg hurts more!
But then I see Raph on the ground and I try to run over.
Daddy picks me and Raph up, but Raph is hurt! Part of his shell breaks off! Daddy gets really mad and puts us in the cart, grabbing the things he told us not to touch, then hurting the scary thing on the stairs a lot.
Once Daddy stops, he picks me up again, looking at me all over. “Are you hurt, Asami?” He asks.
“A little. My leg hurts.”
“Hmm…” Daddy puts me back in the cart.
“Are you mad, Daddy?” I ask.
“No, not at you. I am mad at the ones who seek to take you and the others from me.” Daddy says.
“Oh. Why do they want to take us away?”
“Because they do not understand us. They want to hurt us because they cannot see we are alive like humans.”
“Are we humans?”
“We are something unique, Musume. Something the world has never seen.” Daddy then looks at Raph and smiles, patting Raph’s head. “I’m glad you are alright, little Raphael. Still full of fury, I see.”
We had to run again. It was bumpy and scary, but Daddy got us away, hurting some of the scary men as we ran.
Then we stop and Daddy closes his eyes. More and more of the scary men come and find us, but Daddy still doesn’t open his eyes!
“Daddy! Daddy wake up!”
Daddy finally did.
“Kraang will dispose of rat mutant, but will take little mutants.” Just like Daddy said, they want to take us away!
Daddy grabs a sword. “Never! Beasts from beyond this world! Hear me! You want these mutants? You will never take them from me!”
I stay where I am in the cart as Daddy fights the bad men, hurting a lot of them and getting a little hurt, too. One of the men walks to the cart, about to take us away, so I yell. “Daddy!”
“Leave them be!” Daddy hurts the man a lot, but we were moving!
There’s no more room and we’re gonna fall down!
“Daddy! We’re gonna fall!” We fall off! “Daddy!”
We fall in the water, and my leg was stuck in the cart!
We went way down in the water before Daddy found us, pulling pn the cart.
I can’t breathe and my eyes feel sleepy….
=#=#=#=#=
“-ttle one, please do not leave me!”
I open my eyes. I’m not in water. I am warm, too. Then I cough a lot and I think some water comes out.
“D-daddy..?”
“Asami, thank the stars you’re alright!” Daddy is crying as he hugs me tight, his whiskers tickling my cheek.
“Daddy, you’re tickling me!” I laugh a little, but my throat hurts and I stop.
“I am?” Daddy asks, smiling at me.
“Yeah!” I feel really sleepy, so I cuddle next to Daddy and yawn. “I’m sleepy…”
“Asami, I think we should explore this place before we sleep, alright?” I try to open my eyes but it’s really hard. Daddy picks me up and carries me around this cool place with a lot of room!
I love it, but I’m so sleepy, I can hardly keep my eyes open. I see a cool tree in one big room and almost feel like climbing it, but I yawn instead and stay in Daddy’s arms. This feels nice…
Daddy keeps carrying me around the big place, my siblings following slowly.
“I wanna climb the tree…” I tell Daddy, smiling. “I like this place.”
“I do, too, Asami. Are you feeling alright?”
“I think so. I’m really sleepy…” I rub my eyes, yawning.
“Hmmm, alright then. We will see what we can do about beds for tonight. I will try to find our blankets from the storage facility tomorrow.” Daddy sets me down near the tree and has to get my siblings together. He’s got a box, a bigger one than my siblings were in before.
We don’t have blankets, so Daddy can only put them into the box and carry it over to me. Daddy lays down and he looks sleepy, too.
He hums a pretty song Mama used to sing to me and baby Miwa…
I grab Daddy’s hand and lay down with him, feeling happy now.
Then my eyes go sleepy and I fall asleep…
=#=#=#=#=
(Back to the storytime in the dojo)
“Finally, in this isolated secret chamber, we were safe.” Dad finishes the story, smiling. “And that is how our first great adventure led us home.”
“Whoa! You were awesome, Sensei!” Lupa cheers. “I loved that story!” “
Me, too!” I add. “I’d almost forgotten how we got here.” I smile.
It had taken a long of hard work, but Dad and I managed to craft this place into a home over the years. I wouldn’t trade this place for anything…except maybe Mom and Miwa. I bet they would’ve loved my new siblings…
Dad stands, making me remember this was still storytime. “Now, I have a gift for each of you as we continue our journey.” Dad walks over to the weapons cabinet and opens it. “Though this is mostly from your own choosing,” He says, grabbing a series of weapons before closing the cabinet, “it is clear to me that they chose you.”
“No way! We’re finally getting weapons?!” Lupa’s excitement spread as the little mutants wriggle in excitement.
I’d gotten mine a few years ago (a ninjaken and two hatchets Dad calls Ono hatchets), and the kids had protested ever since.
Dad holds out a katana for Leo. “A katana, a royal samurai weapon, for those with courage and keen skill.”
Leo bows his head respectfully. “Hai, Sensei.”
Dad continues to Raph. “The sai, for a fierce and fearless warrior who will always fight the hardest for his family.”
“Thank you, Sensei.” Raph’s normally irritated voice was almost reverent as he takes the twin sai, eyeing them gleefully.
Dad hands Donnie a bo staff. “A bo staff, for a thoughtful soul and a peaceful heart.”
Donnie frowns, having expected something cool. “Aww man, a stick?”
“Trust me, Donnie. That thing has given me a lot of bruises.” I call, hoping to cheer Donnie up a little.
Judging by his smile, I think it works a little.
Mikey was next, and somehow he’d gotten a bucket of popcorn, sharing with Lupa, but he puts it away behind his shell when he sees Dad in front of him, holding out two nunchucku. “The nunchuku, because…” Dad flounders, so I smile.
“They match your playful energy, and they are awesome, like you!”
Dad smiles at me gratefully as Mikey takes his weapons happily. “Yes, they are perfect for you, my son.” He then moves to Lupa, who was bouncing on her heels with excitement.
“What do I get?” She asks.
“Though I may regret it…the kusa scythe fits your determination and will.” He hands her the staff and Lupa is careful to watch the blades as she tries a small swing.
“Whoa! This thing is so cool!” She cheers. “Thank you, Sensei!”
Dad motions for us to stand, so we do. “My little ninja, it is time for the next level of your training to begin. Are you ready?”
The five of them are adorable as they try some swings.
“Absolutely, Sensei!” They chorus.
“Good. Now, I will show each of you how to hold your weapons and how to perform the basic swings. We will drill these moves before learning more challenging techniques. Understood?”
“Hai, Sensei!” The kids were so eager to learn their new weapons, they’d have agreed to just about anything.
“They grow up so fast…” I muse, laughing as I side-hug Dad.
“They do indeed.” Dad replies, smiling at me before stepping in to get the kids in line so they could start drills to calm down before bed.
This new life may not be the life I thought we’d have when we moved to New York, but I know there’s nothing that can replace my family.
I will honor Mama and Miwa as I help Dad raise these amazing little ninjas here in this subway station we call home.
So copy-and-pasting to Tumblr made everything once huge chunk of text, so I am sorry if anything is still bunched. Did my best to get it back into the way I had it before.
I am off to bed now, but I hope you guys enjoyed this start to Asami and Lupa in the 2012 universe!
Goodnight!

Not a ship, but a Family One if that’s ok! Asami and Lup, Number 20?
OooohI Absolutely! This is a really interesting thing to think about! :)
Now I will warn you this is a little angsty, but I promise comfort is on the way lol.
This takes place during the 2012 episode Croaking, in which the guys berate Mikey to the point of him running away after he makes a mess in the farmhouse the Hamatos, and Casey and April, are staying in.
Lupa is hurt that they’d treat her brother and best friend like that, and Asami is PISSED at the boys.
Anyway, thanks for the request! If anyone is curious, This is the Prompt List soulsbornejace is referring to. If y’all look at the list and want to request something, just send it in an Ask and I’ll see what I can do! I’d lowkey prefer Asami and/or Lupa, but any of my OCs (or my OC/Canon couples) are open for these prompts as well. Have fun!
God Bless and Good Day!
~The Lupine Sojourner
Realistically, Asami should have seen this coming.
She’d tried (Lord knows she tried) to stop the boys’ constant negative feedback on Mikey and Lupa’s antics. She’d lectured them time and again about how valuable the youngest Hamatos’ perspective is to the team and their family, and how they contribute to their lives.
But, it seems her words had fallen on deaf ears.
Of course Raph wouldn’t listen. He was stubborn as a mule and it took a lot for him to change any opinion he held.
Donnie, bless him, rarely lost patience. He was normally fairly level-headed and able to be rational even when frustrated or annoyed. But this time it seemed Mikey had crossed a line.
Leo...Leo was a shock to Asami. She always thought that out of all her brothers, Leo would take her words to heart the most. She thought he’d be the one to realize how damaging their behavior toward Mikey and Lupa was and would help her correct it.
But no. Apparently, a simple mess was going too far. The fact that this was the 3rd mess this week was no excuse either.
Asami tried to bottle up yet another lecture, choosing to go scour the woods for Mikey to try to cool down. She tried to remain calm after returning to the farmhouse empty-handed.
However, her anger returned as they cleaned the living room, which looked like a battlefield.
Everyone(excluding April)’s snide and angry comments sent her over the edge.
“That’s it!” She roars, slamming her broom down and rounding on her brothers and Casey, who flinched. An angry Asami was a force to be reckoned with. “You guys are being complete assholes to Mikey and Lupa and I will not have it!” The use of language caught everyone’s attention. It was rare for the oldest Hamato child to use curse words.
“But, Asami- -” Raph splutters, anger seeping in after the shock of Asami’s outburst.
“No buts!” Asami snaps and Raph shuts up again. “You guys are always throwing Mikey and Lupa down, always hitting them for simple little things! I’ve tried being nice, I’ve tried talking to you about it but I have had it!”
All three Hamato boys step back a bit. Asami was very intimidating when angry.
“This is the 3rd mess this week!” Leo protests, his anger and frustration at Mikey returning too.
“That’s no reason to act that way!” Asami growls. “Mikey is out there, somewhere, convinced you three don’t love him!”
“That’s not- -” Donnie tries to speak up, but quails when Asami’s attention flicks to him.
Asami takes a deep breath. If she behaved to them the way they behaved to Mikey, she’d only be proving herself a hypocrite. “Look, I get it. It’s frustrating that Mikey can’t sit still for five minutes and Lupa has a tendency to follow his lead. But that doesn't mean that they deserve to be told they’re screw-ups and ‘some ninjas’. They are our family, for crying out loud!” Her voice rises a little and the boys gulp. Forcing herself to ease her voice, she continues. “Honestly, you three act like Mikey and Lupa are just roommates. But they’re so much more! They’re our siblings, our family...and we’re all we’ve got right now, so can we find a way to not make Mikey and Lupa feel unloved?”
The Hamatos stand in silence until a new voice enters the conversation.
“I can track Mikey, I think.” Asami whirls as Lupa walks into the room, holding a rag and small bucket of water.
“I tried, Lu-lu.” Asami explains. “I couldn’t get a fix on his scent.” Which was weird. Normally, she was good at tracking.
Lupa smirks a little. “That’s because you were too emotionally charged to track.” She says. “And maybe you were trying to find the wrong scent.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well instead of trying to pick up Mikey’s scent from all the other scents in teh woods, try something more out of place.”
Asami frowns. “What does that mean?”
Lupa grins. “What’s the one thing Mikey would likely take with him?”
It was now Asami’s turn to grin, finally putting the pieces together. “Pizza!”
“Exactly! So let’s go!”
So...not sure how I feel about this one but I just rolled with my gut and I kinda like it?? Hope you like it too, soulsbornejace!

Text
So...
It should come as no surprise at this point, but I've got ANOTHER fanfic for y'all. 😅
It's a TMNT fanfic. It features my OC, Asami, who's older than the turtles, and Lupa, who's the same age as the guys.
Asami and Lupa are wolf-husky mix mutants because I love wolves and thought it'd be cool at 15 years old. 😂 Anyway, I have a fic for both the 2012 series and the 2003 series.
Did I mention Asami is Hamato Yoshi's daughter?
Anyone interested? 🥺👉👈
