Any other writers out there have this problem where they can't write a scene straight through?
I'll write a couple of dialogue lines, then skip half the conversation, write the end of the conversation, go back and write someone's inner thoughts about the conversation, go forward and write what the characters are physically doing, go back and write the middle of the conversation. And then...Then! Maybe if I'm lucky I'll have most of a first draft.
The whole, outline, first draft, second draft, final draft thing feels so hard edged, rigid pass/fail rules that make the process of creating a chore to be completed. My writing is a slowing unfolding seed. Every day a there's just enough cell division to barely notice a new leaf, a millimeter of growth. And no one, not even me, knows which part of the plant is going to spout first.
