I’m very tired so excuse the melodramatic salt…
… But I guess ReVice was really like ‘there’s been two wilfully evil female characters! Oh no! We must quickly make our sole female villain Actually A Poor Sweet Victim!’ The trope is… Well, nothing technically wrong w/ it, it just feels sus to me after two pretty solidly evil ladies—Ora had her writing issues, but she  went for it w/ staying as a villain, and Azu/the Ark was probably one of my fave KR  Big Bads in a long time, and she deserved far better than that mess of a vcinext (I don’t have the special blu ray, you have the  special blu ray!)—and Aguilera being the only female villain. Esp after my issues w/ Izu and Book Girl (who still had more personality than Izu and I can’t even remember her name), it feels like a ‘quick, make the girl innocent/cutesy/the damsel to be saved’ again (hilarious bc Izu and Book Girl shared series w/ Yaiba They Let Me Be A Not Good Person Yua, and Sudo Actually Does More Than Sit Around Praising The Hero Mei, and Aguilera herself has Igarashi Kinda A Rough Start But Doing Pretty Well I Think??? Sakura in her series)… Like this may not bother me if say, one of the other big villains (the… Giftex??? They make gifs??) were female,  or if there were other women at least visible in the villains. But there’s not. It’s just her. And 01 has forever poisoned/shortened my patience w/ ‘girl exists to be damsel in distress/adore a man.’
This is not to say they may not salvage the character by putting a spin on the trope ala Ora w/ a bit more effectiveness, maybe. Something else my exhausted brain can’t think of.
Like… I think it’s also I’m frustrated about Aguilera getting sympathy when really the situation’s not that different from Horobi, but nooo, obviously he wasn’t trying hard enough, but poor baby Aguilera’s not at fault at all, she was raised into this, it’s not her fault this is the way she sees the world! Like people actually kinda try w/ Aguilera (at least, Sakura seems to have had more of a talk w/ her than Aruto ever did Horobi when it didn’t benefit him, which isn’t saying much, sure, but…), but she’s still ‘a poor indoctrinated victim’ and Horobi’s apparently completely at fault for not breaking his years of indoctrination—esp when his indoctrination involved literal mind control and abuse while Aguilera was outside manipulated and treated like royalty—but his status as an ai and the Ark had access to his whole system puts it on the same status as ‘raised from birth/childhood’ at the least.
Also I don’t like Aguilera I find her bratty. Which is okay, like that’s what I’d expect her to be like from the life she seems to have lived.
Anyway bc I’m weirdly protective of Olteca (?) at the moment bc he kinda cute also I like him and Julio (?) as a partnership concept… I think it’s too early to assume he doesn’t care about her at all. Like, key word here is ‘cult.’ Also from what little I know, he’s totally a-okay w/ sacrificing himself and the rest of the crew for the cult. Y’all talking about indoctrination w/ her… Like that could absolutely, from his perspective, be caring. ‘We’re all  going to die to summon our god, isn’t that wonderful?’ and really meaning it. Like that’s literally the point of a cult, and that could actually be an angle for them, everyone disagreeing about what’s best. It’s like… When your cat just… Absolutely cannot understand why bringing you this dead mouse is not the answer to all your food problems. Also my guess is that being this ‘sacrifice’ is exactly what this bride stuff was all along, although I’m naturally not clear on the details, but that’s absolutely the type of thing this kinda doomsday cult would do. Maybe guy has just completely bought into the cult, and to him this is the highest honour achievable. Like I noted before, he’s down w/ killing himself and everyone else to do this, too. He’s not demanding anything of her he’s not jumping into as far as we know, and my impression is that he seemed, kinda like he thought he was enlightening her to some honour or something. It’s a cult. Like… That’s why the say ‘cult mentality,’ why there’s whole things dedicated to detoxing people trying to leave cults. It’s the definition of a cult.
But, Fire, why are you commenting on this KR and it’s characters even though you haven’t watched a single ep??? Bc I am so goddamn tired, it’s midnight, I procrastinate going to bed, I have had to watch that damn Amazon ‘we pay you fifteen dollars for fifty hours a day’ ad on yt, my feet hurt, I have no time sense, and I’m having horrible shoulder tension. I’m grouchy, that’s why. There is literally no deeper reason and me whining about this is kinda stress reliever.
