Outfit of the Day - working from home
Zip-up: Kohl's Tank top: Comfort Colors Nail polish: OPI Pants: Kohl's Slipper socks: Muk Luks
My husband and I went to Aruba for our honeymoon in 2018, and I bought two tank tops there as souvenirs. This is one of them, and the other one is green. I couldn't find pictures of them online, so I took my own. It's not perfect, but I guess it looks okay. I decided to wear the purple one today because it looks nice with my nail polish even though it's a little lighter, more of a lilac. When I was planning my outfits for the week, I realized that I only have one royal purple shirt, but it has short sleeves, so it's too cold to wear it. The rest of my purple tops are darker, like aubergine. I will be on the lookout for sweaters and long-sleeved shirts in the brighter shade of purple. 💜

Bon dia
We were lucky because we had extended weekend! Thursday we went to Palm Island, a small island 1.5km from Aruba. Friday we went to Baby Beach and in the evening we enjoyed the beautiful sunset on Eagle Beach.
Saturday we went shopping and bought souvenirs, in the afternoon we said goodbye to Mrs. Rutten and welcomed Mrs. Pareijn!
Sunday we went to the national arikok park where we could swim in a natural pool. After that we visited some beaches and caves. Now I am starting my last week and I am looking forward to what is ahead of me!

Exploring Aruba’s Onshore Cruise Ship Experience
For those looking to experience the charm of Aruba by sea, the Aruba cruise port in Oranjestad is a key starting point. Oranjestad offers a vibrant shopping scene, with plenty of opportunities to explore local goods and souvenirs. It’s a bubbly market scene from Lloyd G. Smith Boulevard to Renaissance Marketplace. Depending on which of the docks a cruise ship docks at, a walk to Lloyd G. Smith only takes five to ten minutes. The shops and market stalls stock fine local goods and souvenirs.
The tram tracks to Haventraat, Schelpstraat, and Main Street are cute, so it’s easy to forget Aruba’s streets lined with friendly shops and boutiques. These areas are all within walking distance from the Aruba cruise ship port, making it easy for visitors to explore.
For beach lovers, the closest option to the port is Surfside Beach, about a fifteen-minute walk away. To the west of Oranjestad is Eagle Beach, a ten-minute drive by contrast. Beach bars, fine dining, sunbathing, swimming, and other water activities are popular on this beach. North of Eagle Beach is Palm Beach, another popular spot with numerous restaurants and beach bars, easily accessible by taxi or Arubus.
After a day spent enjoying Aruba’s mild sun, visitors can return to the port for a meal at a nearby restaurant or opt for a sunset dinner on a cruise, rounding out a day of exploration and relaxation.

Introducting San Juan
In 1508 the Spanish expedition leader Juan Ponce de Leon established Caparra, a small settlement close to a protected bay on the north coast of the island of Puerto Rico. In 1521 the town was vacated and resited to the present location of Old San Juan. In the 16th century, San Juan was the origin for Spanish exploratory trips to little known parts of the Caribbean.
Nowadays the old section of San Juan has an authentic Old World feel with over 300 restored Spanish 17th century town houses. The area also contains many shops, restaurants, bars, and casinos for cruise passengers to sample.
Touring San Juan
Characterful Old San Juan sits on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean northwards, and the port southwards. This walled and fortified area, now a major historical landmark, was established in 1510. Old San Juan is compactly sized, easy to get around on foot. If your energy runs out take the free bus that runs around the main attractions. Take time to stroll along the narrow cobblestone streets and admire the brightly colored houses, craft shops, and go to the interesting museums.
El Morro Fort
El Morro, a huge fort dating from 1539, defends San Juan from sea pirates. Its full name is Castillo San Felipe del Morro, after the patron saint of King Philip of Spain. You'll find six sets of gun platforms and huge walls that loom over San Juan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
La Fortaleza
Don't miss La Fortaleza, San Juan's oldest fort, founded in 1540. Later it was to become the official residence of the governor. Informative tours take you through the sumptuous building, with gilded banqueting hall, tall galleries, and rooms furnished in period fashion.
Cathedral de San Juan
This impressive cathedral dates back to 1592, on the site of the previous cathedral which was destroyed by a storm. Situated on Calle Cristo, this structure with a unique gothic pavonine facade contains the crypt of Ponce de Leon, a Spanish seaman, and the first ever governor of Puerto Rico.
Shopping
Most of the shopping in Old San Juan is to be found in the many shops along Cristo, Fortaleza and San Francisco streets. As an alternative go to the two markets where you'll find a big choice of jewelry, fashions, art and souvenirs. One is located at the Plaza de la Darsena, in front of pier 1, the other on the Paseo de la Princesa, just along from pier 1.
Bacardi Rum Distillery
Rum drinkers may prefer its nickname the Cathedral of Rum. There's a free guided tour and enjoyable trolley ride. After the boring talk about the distillery's early years enjoy a drink or two.
El Yunque
The only tropical rain forest in the US National Forest system. Very beautiful with a totally sylvan atmosphere. Situated about 45 minutes from San Juan.
Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve
A fascinating ecological reserve with 7 different tropical habitats. Be warned though, visitor numbers are limited, so a reservation is essential.
Cruise Ideas
Enthusiastic cruise vacationers pick San Juan as an alternative to a Florida port. Thanks to its central Caribbean location, the island provides quick access to wonderful Southern Caribbean ports, like the Netherland Antilles and the Windward Isles. A short flight is a better alternative to the long cruise to these areas from mainland US. The range of cruises on offer from San Juan is wide, including the Leeward Isles (USVI, St Maarten, St Kitts, Guadeloupe), the Windward Isles (Dominica, St Lucia, Barbados, St Vincent, Grenada,Tobago), and the Leeward Antilles off the north coast of Venezuela (the ABC islands ie Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao). See San Juan cruises for detailed cruise departure information. Several major cruiselines offer cruises from San Juan, such as Carnival, Royal Caribbean, PO Cruises, Princess Cruises, Silversea and Celebrity Cruises.
Cruise Ship Terminals
There are three major pier areas in San Juan port. Old San Juan piers 1 through 6, the Pan American pier, and Navy Frontier pier. Most times cruise ships visiting San Juan berth at the Old San Juan Piers, so passengers can walk into Old San Juan. Cruise ships leaving from San Juan will berth at Old San Juan pier 4, or the Pan American Pier, 15 minutes by cab from Old San Juan.
Getting to the Port
From the Airport
San Juan airport is located about nine miles from the Pan American pier and 12 miles from the Old San Juan piers. It usually takes about three quarters of an hour in a cab for the journey. The cost is around twenty dollars. Additional charges apply for luggage, some drivers charging by item.

Athens in Americans’ top 10
With higher salaries in their pockets and record investment income, Americans are boarding planes en masse to every corner of the globe, including Athens (pictured), boosting economies abroad and driving up and down real estate markets in Europe and elsewhere. From the temples of Japan and the thermal baths of Hungary, to the islands of the Cyclades in Greece, American tourists are everywhere this summer, and Athens is among their top 10 destinations. With the dollar rising, the value of the money in Americans’ pockets seems to take them even further. The growth rates of the American economy, which are higher than in Europe and beyond, attract investments to the USA. These inflows are pushing the dollar to its highest levels for the year, with the US currency up 15% against the yen and 2.3% against the euro since the end of 2023. In countries such as Argentina and Vietnam, the dollar’s purchasing power has never been stronger, the Wall Street Journal noted in a report published on Thursday. With higher wages in their pockets and record investment income, Americans are boarding planes en masse to every corner of the globe, boosting economies abroad and driving up and down real estate markets in Europe and elsewhere. Nearly 3 million travelers passed through Transportation Security Administration security checks on June 23, setting a new record. And on these trips abroad, Americans do not spare any expenditure: They stay longer, book expensive tours and bring extra suitcases with them, which they fill with souvenirs and other shopping. In Japan in particular, American money is taking on even more ground as the yen recently fell to 38-year lows against the dollar. However, according to data from Mastercard, the top destinations for American travelers this summer are Cancun, Mexico, Aruba and London. Tokyo is also in the top 10, as is Athens. According to Axios, Albania is also rising in the preferences of American travelers, as prices in the country are still much lower than more established European destinations. Romania is also on the rise, in part because it recently joined the Schengen zone, making travel easier. In Greece, data from the Bank of Greece show that arrivals from the US increased annually in the four months from January to April by 62.1%, to 267,500 travelers. Travel receipts from American travelers increased by 35.7%, to 204.6 million euros. Read the full article

Our last official weekend in Aruba!
Last weekend, we had our final full weekend in Aruba, and the end of our internship is rapidly approaching!
On Saturday, we woke up early to go shopping. Our first stop was Zara, as the girls wanted to check it out. I mostly goofed around with Jasper while they looked around the women's section. We briefly checked the men's section, but the options were limited, so we ended up amusing ourselves by riding the escalator and elevator up and down.
When we stepped outside, we stumbled upon a couple of swings. Jasper and I decided to have some fun and spent some time swinging. Afterward, we went souvenir shopping, and I bought a t-shirt for my nephew. I also found a cool bucket hat, which I probably shouldn't post on my blog. When we returned home, it was time for Mrs. Rutten to leave, so we made sure to give Mr. Pareijn a warm welcome. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing.
On Sunday, the group visited the natural pools and gold mines. Unfortunately, I couldn't join them as I was feeling very sick. However, I received numerous pictures from the rest of the group, and it looked incredibly beautiful!
This was my final weekend in Aruba! More updates will follow soon. Signing off for now! <3
