Summary:

"Really? I thought only girls knew how to," Ayiki said, confused.

"My sister didn't like to do it herself, so she made me learn how to," Zuko said with a laugh. "I'm not very good though."

"Do it on me! Do it on me!" Squealed Ayiki.

Xiu was startled a little. She hadn't heard Ayiki this excited for a while.

Zuko laughed again, good-naturedly. "OK, OK."

It was quiet for a moment, and then Xiu heard rustling. Curious, she peeked through the doorway.

Zuko sat behind Ayiki, braiding her hair. Xiu felt her heart melt at the gentle way he weaved her daughter's hair, making sure not to hurt her.

He was right, he wasn't very good at it. Especially with the way he was hunching and squinting to see better. It wasn't perfect, but Ayiki was smiling with her eyes closed in anticipation and Xiu already knew she would love it.

When she called them to dinner, Ayiki bounced in with a loose braid down her back, half of her hair falling out of it. Xiu complimented Zuko on his work and he blushed, a shy smile gracing his lips.

Zuko’s mouth parted in a surprised ‘o’. He seemed too shocked to form any words, but then his eyes glistened.

“You would really do that for me?” He whispered.
