Ohhhh, she is using the same cathedral background as the one on the Kalafina Winter Acoustic album cover!(Oh, no, I got a little too excited there for a moment and didn't double-check before writing this, it's not the same image after all. Still, it looks like she was at least heavily inspired by that Kalafina cover). At any rate, it seems particularly fitting when you consider SPICE's Takeshi Kato mentioning that he felt like “Awe” was very reminiscent of her old Kalafina style. I'll admit, I initially wouldn't have made that connection but the longer I listen to the song, the more sense it makes. And it would definitely explain why I am so smitten with it. Damn, I'm obsessed. And I mean, he is not wrong, the song is certainly on a Kalafina-level of dark and dramatic. That bridge with the strings and choir is pretty epic too. I can say with confidence now that is my absolute favourite freelancer solo track so far. And I am glad her singing in the studio version is a bit more polished. She still sounds raw but it suits the atmosphere of the song.

Being a fan of crossovers, this movie was pretty exciting for me to check out. Definitely didn't disappoint!
Lupin the III vs Detective Conan: The Movie is sort of one I wasn't sure how to feel about since I think I've only watched maybe one season of Lupin and it was definitely one of the more "modern" seasons.
That said, while I knew what to expect considering I do at least know the general direction the series takes, I feel it's fair to warn people who aren't familiar with the series to tread lightly.
To sum it up, it's, well, raunchy. There's sex jokes and lots of seeing women in provocative ways (especially Fujiko, my god that woman is the poster girl of extremely sexual women, even in this movie). Tons of cleavage. A bathing scene. It's very adult. Haha.
Which normally isn't a problem, but...I wasn't too fond of the fact Haibara got dragged into it. I just think when you're discussing certain things about the woman body and it's addressed toward a child (regardless of how old she is mentally) it feels a little wrong. Especially with an adult implyingly getting handsy with said child while making said comment.
So just...keep that in mind if you're like me and you're a little put off by it.
The humor of the series was a very good addition to this movie. I really do enjoy some of the gags of the Lupin series and it certainly delivered in this movie.
The characters were all really fun. I think my favorites were Jigan and Inspector Zenigatta.
I love Conan and Jigan's little playful banter of "being father and son". It was very precious.
By the way, there was a tv special before this one (Same name, just doesn't have "the movie" added on in the title). I would highly recommend watching it first as it provides a lot of context for the movie. Not to mention they do bring up some things from the tv special in the movie.
That said, you CAN watch the movie without the context. It's not like it's hard to follow otherwise.
I also want to say that Satou was an absolute delight in this movie. I love how she's willing to admit Lupin was her first childhood crush, but has no issues taking him down. She's hilarious and I just really enjoyed her in this movie. I kind of wish there could've been more of her.
It's rather funny to me as well that you can easily pick out which designer was doing which of the background and side characters. Like, I do think the Lupin series and Detective Conan mesh pretty well, but there are VERY MUCH artistic differences between the two that can be spotted at a glance.
Now before I add this to the rankings, I would like to note I'm not going to add a movie number to it since technically "Dimensional Sniper" is considered the 18th movie. But since this one came out after the last one, I figured I'd watch and write a little something up.
1.) The Raven Chaser (13th Movie)
2.) The Fourteenth Target (2nd Movie)
3.) The Lost Ship in the Sky (14th Movie)
4.) The Time Bombed Skyscraper (1st Movie)
5.) Magician of the Silver Sky (8th Movie)
6.) Captured in Her Eyes (4th Movie)
7.) Crossroad in the Ancient Capital (7th Movie)/Lupin the III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie
8.) Quarter of Silence (15th Movie)
9.) The Phantom of Baker Street (6th Movie)
10.) Countdown to Heaven (5th Movie)
11.) Strategy Above the Depths (9th Movie)
12.) The Private Eyes' Requiem (10th Movie)
13.) Full Score of Fear (12th Movie)
14.) The Eleventh Striker (16th Movie)
15.) The Wizard of the Last Century (3rd Movie)
16.) Jolly Roger in the Deep Azure (11th Movie)
17.) Private Eye in the Distant Sea (17th Movie)
Perhaps it doesn't make a lot of sense, but for some reason, it just feels best to give it tie status with another movie. It could just be laziness on my part so as not to have to fix the numbers, but I kind of feel like this is the way to go.
Especially since it feels almost like an unofficial official part of the Detective Conan Movie saga.
I don't really expect anyone to know what I'm talking about, I already know how confusing I must sound.
Either way, ending notes, great movie! Highly recommend when you just want a fun watch to give you a few laughs

Girl Groups That Debuted in 2020
Well, we’ve finally reached the end of this crazy year. Instead of focusing on all of the negative things that happened this year, though, I’d like to take a look back on the amazing groups that debuted this year! These girl groups are all incredible and talented, and if you haven’t checked them out yet, you certainly should now! - Admin Kiwi
Cignature
Cignature is a seven member girl group under J9 Entertainment that debuted on February 3rd with their single Nun Nu Nan Na. From left to right the members are Chaesol, Seline, Jeewon, Sunn, Belle, Ye Ah, and Semi, many members who were former members of the girl group Good Day. Since their debut they’ve had two comebacks with ASSA and Arisong. Their music is fun, bright, and loud, and all of them are extremely talented. They’re probably my favorite girl group to debut in a while and I just want everyone to love them as much as I do!
Secret Number
Secret Number is a five member girl group under VINE Entertainment that debuted on May 15th with their song Who Dis? The group consists of members Denise, Dita, Soodam, Jinny, and Léa. They recently had a comeback with the song Got That Boom. I’d recommend checking out their Privacy and Holiday performance videos to see more of their music. I think most of you probably know about Secret Number, especially since their girl crush debut was such a success, but they’re definitely a group to keep an eye on going into 2021.
Weeekly
Weeekly is a seven member girl group under Play M Entertainment that debuted on June 30th with the title song Tag Me (@Me) on their debut album We Are. The group consists of members Jiyoon, Zoa, Soojin, Soeun, Jaehee, Monday, and Jihan. They’re Apink’s little sister group and member Jiyoon has already produced multiple songs for the group, including the song My Earth, about climate change and saving the earth. They have an upbeat and fresh sound that they once again showed with their most recent comeback Zig Zag!
Aespa
I’m sure you all have already heard about aespa, but they’re a four member girl group that just debuted on November 17th under SM Entertainment with the song Black Mamba. The group consists of members Giselle, Winter, Karina, and NingNing, and they created quite a stir with their concept of not only having secret members (perhaps trainees to be added later?) but also having other AI/avatar selves from an alternate universe. They’re already killing it and I can’t wait to see what the next year has in store for them!
STAYC
STAYC is a six member girl group under High Up Entertainment who just made their debut on November 12th with their single album Star To A Young Culture and the song So Bad. The group consists of members Yoon, Sieun, J, Seeun, Sumin, and Isa. This is another group you might have already seen around as they became popular quite literally overnight. You might also recognize Sieun from her acting career, as she’s acted in shows like “Mystic Pop-Up Bar” and “Still 17.″ If you want to hear a little bit more of their sound, I’d recommend watching the performance video for their song Like This.
LUNARSOLAR
LUNARSOLAR is a four member girl group under JPlanet Entertainment that debuted on September 2nd with their song Oh Ya Ya Ya. This group has previously been known as Rookie Planet and First Love. The group consists of members Yuuri, Eseo, Jian, and Taeryeong. Taeryeong (Lim Jungmin) was on both Produce 101 and Mixnine, so she might seem familiar to some of you. Their debut song was refreshing and upbeat and I hope to see more of them next year!
Bling Bling
Bling Bling (or BlingBling, it seems to be stylized both ways) is a six member girl group under MAJOR9 Entertainment that debuted on November 17th with their single album G.G.B. The group consists of members Narin, Juhyun, Yubin, Marin, Jieun, and Ayamy. They debuted with a girl crush concept but with a latin spin on their music that seems to have made them pretty popular in South America, especially in Brazil if their comments are anything to go off of. I was actually very pleasantly surprised and I found myself playing both G.G.B and their b-side La La La over and over after they debuted. Their sound is definitely something that I haven’t seen explored in Kpop before and I’m excited to see how they grow in 2021!
Woo!Ah!
Woo!Ah! is a five member girl group under NV Entertainment that debuted on May 13th with their single album Exclamation and the title song Woo!Ah! as six members. Unfortunately member Songyee left the group due to personal issues, but the group now consists of members Lucy, Sora, Nana, Minseo, and Wooyeon. They also have a very fun sound and you might have seen Woo!Ah! going a bit viral on Kpop tiktok recently. Their most recent comeback was with Bad Girl, a song that has once again gone a bit viral on tiktok for the unique, especially in Indonesia. I would also recommend checking out their song Payday, my personal favorite by them so far!
CRAXY
CRAXY is a five member girl group under S.A INTAINMENT that debuted on March 3rd with their full-length album My Universe and the title track Aria. The group consists of members Wooah, Karin, Swan, Hyejin, and ChaeY. The song Aria received attention after it’s release for being... interesting and unique, to say the least. I’ll admit, on the first listen I didn’t like the song, but it definitely grew on me and I enjoy watching them perform it. Unfortunately they haven’t released any comeback since but they have been active doing covers on their YouTube channel so you could definitely check them out there!
REDSQUARE
REDSQUARE is a five member girl group under About Entertainment that debuted on May 19th with their song Colorfull. The group consists of members Lina, Ari, Green, ChaeA, and Bomin, and all of the members other than Lina were also former members of the girl group Good Day with members of Cignature. Since the group is under a smaller entertainment company, their debut unfortunately didn’t get the attention it deserved. However, Colorfull is not only an amazing song, but the music video is incredibly artistic and aesthetic. I’d really recommend you check these girls out and I hope they have a comeback soon.
BLACKSWAN
BLACKSWAN is a four member girl group under DR Music that debuted on November 10th as five members with Tonight. Unfortunately the group was already hit with controversy (much like Rania, the group BLACKSWAN “replaced” and some of the members were a part of) and member Hyeme left the group. The remaining members are Youngheun, Leia, Fatou, and Judy. While the future of this group seems to be up in the air, I would totally recommend listening to Tonight, because it’s an absolute bop, just like all the Rania songs come before.
KEEMBO
Last but not least, KEEMBO is a duo under Ara-Line that debuted on April 10th with their song Thank You, Anyway. The duo consists of Boa and Bohyung, both former members of the girl group SPICA and absolute vocal powerhouses! I was so excited to see them give music another chance because their voices are absolutely amazing. Since their debut, they’ve released a handful of songs, including Scandalous, 99 (Gu Gu), and most recently Scene. There isn’t a single bad song and I would encourage you all to check them out. Scandalous and 99(Gu Gu) are upbeat and bright summer songs while Thank You, Anyway is a ballad and Scene is a bit darker and more sultry in tone. If you’re looking for good vocals and good music, KEEMBO is where to find them.

Hello and welcome to part 11 of my Journey into Science-Fiction. Last time I looked at Twelve Monkeys 1995. But what links The Man Who Fell to Earth 1976 with Terry Gilliam’s dystopian film? If you would like to find out, then click on the link below.
Twelve Monkeys, 1995: Baby it’s Cold and Uninhabitable Outside.
David Bowie is the very first artist I remember as a child. If I remember correctly, it was his album, Aladdin Sane that first caught my attention. There was something so strange about that album compared to the others in my mum’s collection, something that still stands out to me today. I enjoy a lot of his music and films but never really took a deep dive into his world. I was just waiting for that time, and that has come in the last year or so. So finding myself with the opportunity to look at his work on my site, was a welcome one but not surprising with science-fiction heavily sprinkled throughout his stellar career.
youtube
Directed by Nicolas Roeg and written by Paul Mayersberg, The Man Who Fell to Earth was based on a book by the same name by Walter Tevis. The film still receives critical acclaim and is described as a cult classic. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked it 2nd in the best sci-fi movies of the 1970s and Empire and it was ranked 42 in the top 100 best British films.
Thomas Jerome Newton David Bowie is the man who fell to Earth, his mission is to take home water to his drought-ridden planet. Newton has a plan to help make that mission a success which includes gathering as much wealth as possible to help build a ship to return to his planet and save his family. That wealth becomes available almost instantly as he uses advanced technologies we have never seen before on Earth. All this comes under the business name of World Enterprises Corporation and phase one of his plan is up and running. Newton meets Mary-Lou Candy Clark who really starts to introduce him to a way of life he might not have found on his own.
Newton also strikes up a friendship with another person, Dr. Nathan Bryce Rip Torn. Bryce deceives Newton and secretly gathers evidence to prove that Newton is an alien. Newton, realising that the truth about him may become known, decides to show Mary-Lou his true self. Mary-Lou is shocked beyond imagination and leaves him. Anyway, back to the plan and Newton’s ship is ready for launch, enabling him to complete his mission. Newton leaves to take his flight, that is until the government steps in to halt all proceedings, Dr Bryce has exposed him and he is taken away for medical testing.
Years later and Newton’s mission has all but failed, he is also still been held and undergoing scientific study. He is visited by Mary-Lou who is looking older by now, after a game of table tennis they decide they don’t love each other anymore. Mary-Lou leaves and Newton realises he is longer held captive anymore and is free again. Newton decides the only thing he can do now is to try and send a message to his family, that comes in the shape of an album. Bryce recognises this is the work of Newton and tracks him down. Newton looks down, depressed and given up hope of ever getting back to his home.
I hope you are still reading because that description I can only say at best is clinical and this film is anything but. This film is completely enriched with all the trappings of a rock star in the 70s. I think this is why I found it so hard to describe those elements into the plot of the film as I kept referring back to that as I tried to write it. It is well known that Bowie was deep into his cocaine addiction when this film was made, and it shows. Literally, after reading a few reviews about the making of this film online, he wasn’t the only one. I really loved watching Newton drinking water from the lake and it looks almost beautiful, and later it shows you him living a life of decadence and becoming miserable, more human perhaps? Alcohol plays a pretty big part in this film as I’m sure I must have seen at least 100 bottles of Beefeater Gin on display, I actually felt like I had a hangover myself watching it. I like Art but I felt that some artistic aspects in the film took me away from the original story. The scene where Newton shown himself to Mary-Lou was quite terrifying, but was ruined by people flying through the air in splashes of water, reminiscent of a music video.
Music? Well, I was really disappointed that it was not David Bowie himself that had created the soundtrack to this film as it might have sat better with me. John Phillips did a decent job, but throughout the film, there was a country-style theme going on, turning it nto a comedy situation. I was half expecting Dolly Parton to turn up. There is meant to be a Bowie soundtrack recorded in an archive somewhere, I certainly hope that is released someday.
Don’t get me wrong though, this film has some really great visuals and looked amazing and for 1976, that’s some achievement. Basically, I thought this film had such a wonderful story to work with, but decided to show us people playing naked table tennis, unneeded sex scenes and a lot of art house imagery that was a bit over my head. I totally understand people love that, but it’s just not for me. I have just realised this film also reminds me of the book Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein, a book that didn’t fill with as much joy as some of his other books either. I really enjoyed the scenes showing his family and that is the kind of science-fiction I love. Okay, I admit, I did giggle when his family are on screen as it reminded me of Mac and Me. There is a great film in there somewhere, so I did enjoy it. If only the director would have concentrated on the plot a lot more. I am glad I have finally watched it, but I guess it might have succumbed to the passage of time quite badly.
So where next for my Journey into Science-Fiction? Well, I really love that this film was made by British Lion Films and was hoping something caught my attention from their other productions. I was also pleased to learn that Michael Deeley also produced one of my favourite films, The Deer Hunter, but not exactly sci-fi. I must admit, it’s been pretty hard to find any kind of link to my next film, but alas, a wonderful moment has arrived. Thank you, Rip Torn, who played Dr Nathan Bryce, his resume is quite incredible and he has starred in some great films. One that really caught my eye though is the Robocop franchise as he played a CEO in those movies. So next I will be looking at Robocop 1987 and I’m really looking forward to that, it’s been a while. Thank you for reading and please come back for Part 12 of my Journey into Science-Fiction.
What are your thoughts on The Man Who Fell to Earth? Do think my take on the film is wrong, or right? I would really like to hear from you. Let me know in the comments section below.
The Man Who Fell to Earth, 1976: Water, Water Everywhere. Hello and welcome to part 11 of my Journey into Science-Fiction. Last time I looked at Twelve Monkeys 1995.

Are You Certain Your Oversight Is actually A Mistake?
An essential factor in managing personal improvement is the degree to which the person has the ability to acknowledge that they are actually not their notions - to not oversight the chart for the area - and also to have a grown sense from individuality that is actually beyond their personal as well as others viewpoints, and that is grounded in worths, a much higher reason and in easy terms an expanded consciousness of that they truly are or even are not! Thus let me give you a rundown of the 10 very most typical mistakes I observe guys producing when they to begin with come close to a woman - as well as this isn't really just trainees - this relates to normal fellas I observe when I go out. If your error has resulted in someone to shed trust in you, approach the person and also provide a truthful apology. If you have any thoughts about wherever and how to use yellow pages uk twitter; vizinondipiu12.info,, you can make contact with us at our web-site. The Hynix courtroom clarifies the distinction in between an oversight from rule ... where the truths are actually recognized yet the lawful repercussions are actually certainly not, or even are actually believed to be other than they definitely are actually ...," Century Importers, Inc If all you must know was actually certainly not available to you at that time you makinged a decision that produced a result you were not finding, you contend the very least discovered one way certainly not to do something down the road. James Joyce named them, gateways of invention." Despite exactly how significant or even tiny you perceive your oversight to be, when you understand that you have actually erred; this just requires modification, absolutely nothing else. As an expert in the POP Culture, the most interesting aspect of individuals could be summarized in one phrase: mistakes. All points considered, these are actually a number of one of the most well-known oversights that individuals often make the second they make a decision to change their outdated windows with PVC home windows. Work toward getting rid of these blunders and also everything, as well as every little thing you desire is within your grasp. So, aim to see oversights as well as breakdowns as a perfect option to grow and discover as a person. The alternative is your boss finding out the blunder in any case and locating that you're at shortcoming - which is certainly not a good scenario to be in. Depending on the Middle East, he punished the 2003 infiltration from Iraq as probably the worst choice ever made in the past history of the nation, and also mentioned risk-free zones ought to have been actually made within Syria and also paid for by the USA' Bay allies. You lose focus when you stay in the past times, when you hold onto the luggage from all the failings you have actually created in your life. The 2nd oversight lots of providers produce is to forget and in some way miss out on the education and learning from the vital value of marketing. These blunders may extremely well impede your potential to earn a brand new and also improved you." to prevent your own self off producing these typical gown for gratification blunders, you'll wish to proceed continuing reading. Just like sounds that lead a vehicle driver to feel that fixings remain in requirement, there will be doubtful sounds created along with the put in from the wrong model year parts. After this is actually all around, as foolish an other as I am actually can easily see that blunders were made. The primary thing to carry out after making an inaccuracy is to accept responsibility for that. Some individuals make the blunder from denying obligation and waste time positioning guilt on others. You will be actually shocked through how quickly you react to errors down the road and your potential to steer clear of comparable conditions entirely. You magically improve the mistake in to true blessings when you look for as lots of traits as you can easily to be actually happy for in an oversight. When making a decision if they may, a large mistake initial opportunity buyers create is centering on the monthly home settlement quantity manage a certain home. Look for the feeble areas in your lifestyle like confining opinions that induce you making errors and after that attempt to change these restricting actions, habits, as well as ideas. Remember that blunders are actually certainly not indications of weak point or even ineptitude; recouping from all of them demonstrates durability as well as determination. This's interesting that any kind of possibility to judge or even put down other people stems from our very own need to become mistake-free, our very own fear of mistakes. Case 3 set up that typical error can easily void an arrangement merely if the blunder of the subject-matter was completely essential to render its own identification different coming from what was contracted, producing the efficiency from the arrangement impossible. You should allow mistakes and failures as a part of life and a pure reviews as well as nothing at all more yet comments. An error where each party possesses an inaccurate understanding from the other's setting, or in which each individuals discuss the very same mistaken belief, normally a basis for canceling the deal. After Disarray to Cash money headed to imprint, and after copies were actually being marketed as well as shipped out, I discovered a number of blunders in that. The worst was in the About the Writer" part. Oversights differ in degree and also style as well as some may be more durable to recuperate coming from compared to others. No one takes pleasure in making a mistake nevertheless occasionally they can deliver a primary learning adventure. When that relates to inaccuracies having an effect on both the edges of numerous accounts, rectification of these types of mistakes may frequently be made possible through an access created in the diary. You invest daily from your whole life making an identification on your own, yet you experience that your company does not should have one. You could hear or review that current everyday concerning someone's awful story of endangered identification. When an illegal accused misconstrued some fact that voids a factor of the criminal activity, blunders from fact come up. A lot of from my customers, and people that I can be found in exposure to, have problem with acknowledging mistakes. Oversights can easily injure, however if our experts do not 1eaai coming from the blunder our experts have actually made, the ache our team've had to deal with it has been for nothing at all. The only people who do not make errors are those that relax in isolation considering their navels. The moment you've opted for an oversight to amazingly transform right into benefits, seek the things to become happy for. If all you had to know was actually certainly not available to you at the time you decided that made a result you were actually certainly not seeking, you have at the very least knew one method certainly not to carry out something later on. James Joyce named all of them, websites from breakthrough." Regardless of just how significant or tiny you perceive your error to become, when you understand that you have actually erred; this just calls for correction, absolutely nothing else. As a specialist in the POP Culture, the absolute most fascinating thing about individuals could be summed up in one phrase: blunders. If you have not created any sort of errors for a while, you may not be giving your own self options to jeopardize, to learn, or to grow. Writers, Bloggers, Podcasters & Artists: Helping you certainly not simply build & nurture an invested reader, however how you can leverage your errors so you turn them right into your biggest endorsers but. Self-Care: Popular massage blunders specialists make are that they do certainly not take care of on their own as much as they should. Mistake # 7 - Settling your claim ahead of time, or even appearing too eager to settle your claim quickly. . The primary step in oversight proofing is actually to figure out the type of inaccuracy, or even inaccuracies, that triggered the defect. To blunder A for B → A mit B verwechseln, A für B halten; that can certainly not possibly be actually misinterpreted for everything else → das ist doch unverkennbar!, das kann guy doch gar nicht verwechseln! An error, as it seems to me, is actually none the less an oversight due to the fact that this is actually helped make intentionally in the pursuance from a mistaken motive. Lastly, the final large error that several girls create is overcomplicating their course. The elimination from error-prone steps in a procedure is actually an additional technique from blunder proofing. Anybody which has ever had the guts to walk out in to the world and do one thing understands there are simply 2 type of oversights: ones our company could recoup from as well as ones we could not recoup from. To locate the most effective remedies to blunders when mounting marble floor ceramic tiles mentioned in this particular write-up, you can do thus listed here. As well as consistently, 100% from the moment, I brought in the assessment costs back in renegotiations with the house owner. That is consistently smart to figure out and also remedy the mistakes right before the last make up the year are actually created. After it is actually around, as stupid an other as I am could view that oversights were helped make. The initial thing to carry out after producing an error is actually to approve task for this. Some people create the oversight of refuting responsibility and delay positioning blame on others. You will definitely be amazed through just how rapidly you respond to oversights down the road as well as your potential to stay away from identical situations completely. You amazingly transform the blunder right into good things when you appear for as a lot of traits as you can to be happy for in a blunder.

Your Friday Morning Roundup
Last night was a reminder of where the Sixers stand in terms of their growth and development.
They’re beyond the point of losing nearly every game. Even though they went on a five-game winning streak, there’s still flaws that opponents are able to pick out. And the Sacramento Kings did just that with a 109-108 win in the final seconds.
The Kings scored seven unanswered points in the game’s final 1:38, which reminded me a little bit of the loss to the Rockets at home two weeks ago.
Robert Covington, who’s had a huge impact on the team’s success, had a game-high 24 points, while Joel Embiid (22 points, 15 rebounds) and Dario Saric (13 points, 10 rebounds) each had double-doubles.
But the Kings’ bench played a significant role, outscoring the Sixers’ reserves 56-17. The Sixers also had eight more turnovers than Sacramento.
The team has a big game ahead Saturday night in the Bay Area against the Golden State Warriors. Also, be sure to read Kevin Kinkead’s post on how the Sixers are numbers wise, along with balanced contributions from the team.
The Roundup:
There was some good news involving Philly teams. The Flyers showed up after a five-day break, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks at home 3-1. The entire first line of Claude Giroux, Jake Voracek, and Sean Couturier scored all three goals and contributed to seven of the team’s eight total points. Goalie Brian Elliott made 38 saves on 39 shots to get the win.
Shayne Gostisbehere made history, becoming the fastest defenseman in franchise history to score 100 points with his assist on the second goal:

Radko Gudas made his return to the ice as well.
Up next are the Minnesota Wild Saturday night back in Philadelphia.
Meanwhile, Nolan Patrick still hasn’t practiced with the team after suffering a concussion seven games ago. Ron Hextall thinks he’s close to practicing again:
“It’s a matter of kind of ramping him up every day and hopefully things continue on the path they’re going on right now,” Hextall said.
Hextall said Patrick’s recovery has “taken longer than we thought and certainly hoped, but he skated [Thursday] and everything went good. He worked out. You just can’t go from zero to 60; it’s got to be zero to 20 and then up, so he’ll go a little harder” Friday.
The general manager said he did not anticipate sending Patrick to the AHL’s Phantoms for a rehab stint. He also ruled out sending him back to his junior team in Brandon.

Nobody will have a better bye week than Timmy Jernigan. The defensive tackle signed a four-year extension reportedly worth $48 million. $26 million is guaranteed. Huge move by Howie Roseman.
LeGarrette Blount wanted Corey Clement to get his third touchdown of the game against the Broncos. I think the running backs are happy here.
Carson Wentz and his AO1 Foundation will hold his first ever charity softball game at Citizens Bank Park on June 1. It’ll pit the Eagles offensive stars against the team’s defensive players:

The family of Roy Halladay issued a statement two days after the former pitcher’s death, including info about a public service down in Clearwater on Tuesday:

The radio host that was dumb to say that Halladay deserved to die is a hypocrite. And to nobody’s surprise, he went on the air yesterday to apologize for his comments. He’s still a scum.
There was another scum that tried to take a jersey away from the Halladay memorial at Citizens Bank Park:
The man, who’s accused of placing the jersey under his jacket, was chased down by officers.
Police say the man was cited for disorderly conduct and released.
Authorities add that since no one claimed ownership of the jersey, no charges will be filed.
Finally, a great personal story from Jim McCormick on how Halladay helped him battle through a personal battle:
The smell of cotton candy being whipped was actually in the air. Cases of water sat wrapped on pallets. It was an immersive baseball climate. From the corner of my eye, I see someone in the third-base stands running the steps. It looks oddly mechanical, like a precision you couldn’t match if you tried.
It’s Halladay. I have no interest in false mythologies. I don’t often believe the “first to the stadium, last to leave” narrative given just how human most humans are. This was different. He was honestly running the damn steps. I stopped at the railing, just behind the plate at the park, and just watched. It just didn’t stop. It was a Powerade commercial. It was a person reflecting on results and working on that goal.
It was love of craft.
There is an “inside baseball” anecdote about how Halladay and Chris Carpenter were in a hotel room together during Spring Training 1998, amid a time when both were struggling for the Blue Jays and famous pitching guru Mel Queen gave them a rousing speech of how they’d reconnect with the game and both would thrive as professional pitchers at the highest level. Queen was all about mental reflection in pitching.
In non-Halladay news, Gabe Kapler is…my god, that dude’s jacked up.

Tonight’s a night for college sports. Temple football travels to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats at 7 pm on ESPN2. The Owls look to win their second straight game and keep their bowl hopes alive.
The Owls hoops team defeated the Jefferson Rams (the artist formerly known as Philadelphia University) in an exhibition last night.
But there will be two regular season college hoops games tonight in and around the city. Drexel opens their regular season at the DAC against Bowling Green at 7 pm, while sixth ranked Villanova hosts Columbia at 8:30 on FS2. Villanova is playing most of their home games at the Wells Fargo Center while the Pavilion undergoes a major renovation.

In other sports news, once again, the Ezekiel Elliott suspension is back on. And it starts on Sunday:
Argument in Ezekiel Elliott's expedited appeal in 2nd Circuit scheduled for Dec. 1. #Cowboys have four games before then.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) November 9, 2017
Elliott can appeal to the full 2nd Circuit or even the Supreme Court, but they appear to be extreme long shots. Elliott will be suspended for at least four games before the December 1 hearing, including the Sunday Night Football game next week against the Eagles.
In the Seahawks’ 22-16 victory over the Cardinals, Richard Sherman ruptured his Achilles and is done for the year. He knew it when it happened:
Does look like Richard Sherman said “tore my Achilles” here. Would not be good. http://pic.twitter.com/J7kSmX35zZ

Sherman was one of many Seahawks that got banged up during the game. Duane Brown, Frank Clark, Sheldon Richardson, and Kam Chancellor also got hurt to go along with Earl Thomas, who didn’t play.

Nike is trying to stop their new NBA jerseys from ripping.
This is crazy: For eight years, a teenage girl from Missouri disguised herself online as baseball writer Ryan Schultz, who wrote for three sites, including Beyond the Box Score for SB Nation:
Schultz’s fraud was as true to the catfish genre as can be. She told the people who discovered she was not who she said she was that she assumed the identity because she felt as if she couldn’t write about baseball professionally as a woman, especially at the age of 13. As the deception went on, she couldn’t figure out how to get out of the middle of her web of lies.
Over time, Ryan formed serial relationships with women who use Twitter to talk about baseball and hockey. Some women told me that he would get drunk and berate them; others told me they felt emotionally abused and manipulated because he would imply that he’d hurt himself if they didn’t continue to talk to him. Ryan received nudes from at least two women I spoke with, one of whom said she did it because she was afraid he would hurt himself if she didn’t.
Schultz’s story is interesting for reasons far beyond its sheer shock value. It’s entirely reasonable that at the time she created the Ryan persona, she might not have thought she could easily have a career writing about baseball as a woman. She’s also drawn a big red arrow sign pointing toward the exploitative ecosystem of online sportswriting, which created the conditions for her to get her enviable opportunities without much interrogation from editors who have a lot to do and few resources with which to do it.
Most of all, though, there are real women who have been genuinely hurt by their interactions with a woman who, as she tells the story, caught herself up in a lie she didn’t know how to untell, not least because it was bringing her what she wanted.

Almost Liverpool's Naby Keita Update #2- Mönchengladbach
Welcome to the 2nd edition of the Naby Keita update. Sorry for the tardiness. I was away for work this weekend and could barely watch the Liverpool match, much less Leipzig's (although I did sneak away from a seminar to see both goals in the Liverpool game while sitting fully clothed on a toilet.)
*I'm still learning this whole gif-creation thing, if any of you are knowledgeable about that type of thing and can give me advice about making good-quality GIFs that aren't massive file-sizes, that'd be helpful for me. (I use gifox if that matters) * it was hard to find a full-match replay, but I finally just splurged on Fox Soccer Match pass for $20 a month so I can keep doing these. (If 200 of you want to donate .10 a month to a broke young-man, feel free)
Here we go!
Match: RB Leipzig - Borussia Mönchengladbach
Competition: BUNDESLIGA
Date: SEP 16, 2017
Pre-Match
Naby is starting on the right today
I'm curious to see how that develops. He has the physical and technical tools to play on the right, it seems, but the massive amounts of other qualities he has, makes it seem like he'd be more influential centrally, but I'm not a professional manager.
-First time that I've seen Forsberg, Werner, and Naby all on the pitch together. Looks like a dangerous team.
First Half
1": Someone in the Bundesliga graphics department is an idiot. There Naby is, patrolling the middle of the pitch. I don't know why I believed that "on the right" nonsense to begin with.
5: Naby not terribly involved early on. Although, unrelated to Liverpool, Werner is such an impressive player, really easy on the eye. Forsberg electric as well.
6: Naby lays a ball off and bursts forward but his touch let's him down and he gives away a goal kick.
7 Naby never really goes up to win headers unless the ball is straight at him, which is kind of frustrating, and he hasn't seemed to put himself in a position to win the second ball from headers either, but I'll keep my eye on that.
8: Naby turns out of pressure easily. this is admittedly not a good example. But I was unable to capture his ability to do that in the previous post, imagine a third defender being on his back, he would have made that turn and made it look just a care-free.
8: Naby receives the ball in the opposition half and immediately drives forward, as per usual.
9: Maybe he is playing in a little different role, or maybe he's just amazing at covering ground. Naby tracks all the way to the touchline to win the ball and play it smoothly back to his teammate, the immediately avails himself for the ball, and quick pass to his fullback who can see the whole field.
11: Naby recieves it in his own half, runs at Gladbach, and slides a nice ball forward.
13: Keita recieves on the left, and barrells through bodies somehow, and plays forward.
14: Keita wins the ball back well. but is whistled for a questionable foul.
15: Keita receives the ball, waits for his attackers get get forward, and attempts an ambitious through ball from deep that doesn't come off.
16: The ball drops to Keita outside the box after a Leipzig attack, he then walks past 2 defenders like they are standing still, and plays a ball across the face of goal.
17-25: Naby had a really good ten minutes. He played it simple, just playing one & two touch football for a while, things that don't require GIFS. But he doesn't lose the ball at all and doesn't make mistakes defensively.
27: Keita tries to bomb through Gladbach defenders again, but this time loses out.
29: NABY ASSIST Keita receives the ball at the half, turns, bursts into a little space, and plays a beautiful ball that his striker turns onto unbelievably well to make it 2-1.
32: Off he goes again, like a Red Bull in a China Shop (wow that was so bad, I'm so sorry) seems like Gladbach are at the point where they're just going to grab him as soon as he touches the ball, because they're going to end up having to foul him anyway.
38: Wins the tackle well, makes strong push forward, and plays a good ball through.
39: One of the first time's i've seen Keita lose possession in a remotely dangerous area, tries a nutmeg that fails.
40: I might not be able to watch this game anymore, boys. Gladbach's manager looks too much like my ex-landlord. Every time they cut to him, I imagine him yelling "YOU BETTER GET THAT STRAWBERRY JAM STAIN OFF THE REFRIDGERATOR OR YOU WONT BE GETTING THAT DEPOSIT BACK."
42: WEE-WOO, WEE-WOO SOUND THE ALARM. Naby went up for a header! He lost it, of course, but at least he left the ground!
43: He expended so much energy trying to win that header, and prove me wrong, that Naby needed a quick nap.
44: Naby intercepts in his own box, bursts into space, and plays a tasty looking ball forward, but just misses.
SECOND HALF
47: Gets the ball. And guess what? You'll never guess, dribbles forward like his shoes are on fire.
49: Comes in hard in a challenge, but complains about being called for a clear foul, a man after my own heart.
59: Knocks off for a team-mate, makes a wide run into space, get's it back, take a couple dribbles, plays Werner in, who hits it well, but right at the keeper.
62: Keita and a teammate both try to win the ball at the same time, ball bounces to a Gladbach player, who immediately equalise with a long-range effort
66: Keita a little higher so far in the 2nd half, receives, turns, plays a little reverse ball for Werner, and continues his run into the box, Werner plays a little behind Keita, who can't create a chance for himself.
68: Really open game developing here, Leipzig look to break quickly with Keita all alone near the center circle, Keita receives and turns up, looking to play Werner in, who's offside.
70: Keita continues to receive the ball in spaces more advanced than against Wolfsburg. Receives again, tries to dribble through 60% of the Gladbach team, but loses out.
72: Keita wins the ball initially, but disregards the pride and health of the Gladbach midfielder on his way to the ball, foul.
75: The ball somehow bobbles it's way to Keita in his attacking third again. Keita tries to be dangerous, plays a ball to runners in the box, but it's intercepted.
77: First long range effort of the day, scuffs wide.
82: You don't put your face where it doesn't belong. You wouldn't but your face in front of John Mayer's guitar on-stage at Madison Square Garden, you wouldn't put your face between Claude Monet and a bouquet of pastel flowers. You definitely shouldn't put your face between Naby Keita's feet and the football.
83: Keita see's red simply because the Gladbach player was interuppting an artist at work, a crime, no doubt, but a reality we must embrace.
84: For the second Almost Liverpool's Naby Keita update in a row, Keita walks off the pitch a few minutes early. This time, a little more comfortably, but a little angrier. Come back soon Naby, we're all already counting the days.
Overall thoughts*
-Certainly a different role from last time. Against Wolfsburg, Keita made good runs, but runs that started behind the ball, playing more of a supporting midfielder role. Today, Naby started higher, looked to find pockets of space, and a few times, started forward runs ahead of the ball.
-Still covered a ton of space side to side, but looked a little bit in no man's land defensively. Just kind of following the play backwards instead of being active in defending the space. Probably more due to his role in the team than anything, although didn't look as quick today, maybe because of his injury.
-Commentators said that he was a doubt all week before the game. Comes in a runs the game again. What a player.
-He just loves to turn and dribble. So much that I was picking out spots where his teammates didn't turn and dribble and thought to myself, "Naby would've dribbled into that space and made a nuisance of himself there"
-He'll deal with the physicality of the Prem just fine. Loves a nice, firm, challenge.
Thanks for reading this far! Any notes or feedback is welcome! Hopefully there will be an update past 85 on the next edition.

Bajan Newscap 3/5/2017
Good Morning #realdreamchasers! Here is your daily news cap for Sunday 5th March 2017. Remember you can read full articles via Barbados Today (BT) or by purchasing a Sunday Sun Newspaper (SS).
PM: WE AREN’T BORROWING – Prime Minister Freundel Stuart is not worried about the country’s latest downgrade by international rating agency Standard & Poor’s. That’s because his Government has no plans to borrow money on the international market. Stuart told a gathering of Democratic Labour Party (DLP) members and faithful yesterday he would instead be focusing his efforts on keeping Barbados’ economic growth on the upswing. The DLP president was in an upbeat mood during the party’s mid-year conference at Queen’s College when he briefly dealt with Friday’s downgrade of the country’s long term credit rating by S&P from B to CCC+. (SS)
DLP PROUD OF ITS RECORD – Despite economic downgrade number 19 in nine years under the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), Minister of Commerce Donville Inniss is urging party faithful to hold their head up and be proud of the achievements of the Freundel Stuart administration. Speaking today at the party’s conference entitled ‘Facts’, held at the Queens College auditorium, Inniss said that upon reflection he was “amazed at the amount of work” which the Government has done. Standard and Poor’s (S&P) announced yet another downgrade for the island yesterday, this time to ‘CCC+/C’, based on Government’s limited financing alternatives and low international reserves. And if the conditions do not improve, there will be a further downgrade within the next year, S&P warned. It also explained that its negative outlook reflected its view that Government was either unable or unwilling to take timely steps to redress the situation. However, Inniss contended that if the tables were turned and the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) took the reins of Government, they would not have done any better under the same harsh economic climate. “There are those who are going to come around, whether it be on social media or at your doors, and they are going to criticize everything that we have done and say we have done nothing. I ask you simply to ask them; what would they do if they were in our position under the circumstances? They would not give you an answer. Take that moment of silence from their end and use it to remind them of all things we have done as a Government in the last eight years.” Inniss also suggested that dividend for the sacrifice of the Barbadian people was right around the corner and now was not the time to give it up to the BLP. “Now is the time for all of us to band together and roll up our sleeves and get into the trenches and get on the road towards winning the next election whenever [Prime Minister] Freundel [Stuart] calls that election,” Inniss added. (BT)
BARBADIANS NOT SO BAD OFF – Minister of Social Care Steve Blackett has accused the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) of painting a much darker picture of the Barbadian standard of living. He said the social work done by the Freundel Stuart administration strongly refutes any aspersions that Barbadians were “walking around with their bellies to their backs”. Blackett made the comments during the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) ‘mid-term review’ dubbed ‘Facts’, held at the Queens College auditorium this morning, “Never has there been a party that has described Barbadians in some of the worse terms and pejorative language as the Barbados Labour Party. They say they are eating Ramen (noodles) and spaghetti and sardines, as if eating sardines should be worn as a badge of dishonor,” Blackett said. “I certainly prepare sardines at least twice per week and they are extremely protein-rich and nourishing. They paint Barbados in the worse possible light and certainly doesn’t reflect the range social services in Barbados.” In the wake of Standard and Poor’s latest downgrade, Blackett maintained that Barbados still has the right balance of economic and social pursuits. While several economic pundits have recommended that a fiscal debt reduction strategy should see Government shedding some of the state’s social care obligation, Blackett was adamant the governing DLP party should be proud of their record in this department. “We in the Ministry of Social care have accepted our role in ensuring this model of governance is achieved through our own policies and programmes especially in the area of socially balancing our country,” Blackett said. “We have undertaken to provide 60 per cent of the social services available to the citizens of this country. We have set about this task by first of all planning for the individual demographic spread of the persons who present to our agencies on a daily basis,” he added. (BT)
EXPECT A LOWERED DEFICIT - Barbados is climbing out of its deficit hole, and in three days the country will hear that Government has cut almost $100 million in spending in the 2016-17 financial year, Finance Minister, Chris Sinckler said today. Delivering a report on the work of his ministry to a mid-year conference of the Democratic Labour Party, Sinckler said that his presentation of the estimates for the 2017-18 fiscal year will show that Government managed to take the deficit below the eight per cent projected in March 2016 when the last Estimates were presented. Additionally, Sinckler said in the Queens College auditorium that he will announce an even lower projected deficit for the next financial year. The Finance Minister told the party faithful at the conference, where most Cabinet ministers reported on work done in their ministries, that following the estimates projection of a 7.9 per cent deficit, “we made a concerted effort behind our intent that eight per cent was too high”. Sinckler said that this amount of savings has positioned Government to aim for a much smaller deficit in the next financial year. He said that the new deficit target could be made even lower once the sale of the Barbados National Terminals Company Limited’s assets is completed. The projects include construction work at the Sam Lord’s Castle site for the Wyndham Hotel, the handover of the Development Bank of Latin America (Corporation Andina de Fomento, or CAF) bridging loan for work at the Barbados Revenue Authority installation of scanners for Customs, and a Caribbean Development Band Student Revolving Fund loan. He went on to explain that, “rather than reporting $681 million [foreign reserves] at the end of December 2016, we would have been reporting [over $800 million] which would have been above the 12 weeks of imports. Asserting that the DLP is achieving results, the Finance Minister told party members, “all it requires is a little time and some patience. “Everybody wants everything to be turned around one time. It cannot be done like that,” Sinckler added. (BT)
NUPW CALLS ON MALONEY TO RESIGN - Get to stepping! The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) has written former president Walter Maloney, demanding that he immediately resign from the Severance Payments Tribunal. The letter, signed by general secretary Roslyn Smith, was sent off to the former public sector union boss last month. Current president Akanni McDowall said Maloney was yet to respond, in spite of being requested to do so before February 17. “We have not received any official correspondence from him or the ministry saying that he resigned,” McDowall told the SUNDAY SUN in a recent interview. (SS)
TOO LATE FOR ADVISORY COUNCIL – As far as the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) is concerned, the formation of any economic advisory council by the Democratic Labour Party right now is simply putting the cart before the horse. That’s because Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler’s announcement last week of an advisory council came after the plans for the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure were already in motion. BLP chairman George Payne pulled no punches yesterday while making those comments to journalists during the party’s weekly community tours. Speaking in 2nd Avenue, Thomas Gap, Westbury Road, Payne said: “This administration would like to make you believe that the appointment of advisory committees is the solution to the problems facing Barbados. (SS)
ECONOMIST WARNS COMPANIES MAY RELOCATE – A former Central Bank economist is warning that the most recent downgrade could lead to more companies moving their headquarters from Barbados. Winston Moore, a professor of economics at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) and the head of the campus’ Department of Economics, said Barbadians should now have no doubts about the effects of downgrades on the economy and Government financing. He said the Standard & Poor’s (S&P) downgrade of the country’s long-term foreign and local currency to CCC+/C meant the country’s debt was considered “substantially risky”. He added: “There are only five categories lower than this rating category in the S&P rating scale. In addition, we are now six categories below investment grade – a category that would enable financial institutions within and outside of Barbados to lend us money without significantly increasing their own risk ratios.” (SS)
NO CHUM OR HOLDERS FESTIVAL THIS YEAR - The death knell may be sounding for two major winter tourism events that have attracted scores of visitors to Barbados. The Canadian radio promotion Chum FM Breakfast in Barbados and the Holders Season, held between March and April, are off this year’s cultural calendar and it is unsure when or if either will return. The Chum FM Breakfast in Barbados show has been broadcast from Barbados for the last 30 years with winners in the promotion enjoying a week on the island along with several of their guests. The radio station’s daily prime time broadcasts are relayed from Barbados to millions of listeners in some of Canada’s provinces including Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa. The highlight is a concert which has over the years seen international artistes such as Jennifer Hudson and Michael Bublé performing in Barbados. (SS)
RDC AWARE OF ELDERLY COUPLE’S PLIGHT - The Rural Development Commission (RDC) has confirmed that it is aware of the plight of an elderly St John’s couple. Wilson and Louise Yearwood have been living in a dilapidated government–sponsored home for more than 15 years. In an article published on March 2, Barbados TODAY highlighted the elderly couple’s predicament. The one–bedroom wooden structure, which is in urgent need of repair, stands in Clifton Hall, St John, with holes in the roof and evidence of rodents in the environs. Following the publication of the article, a press release was issued by the RDC, which confirmed that 75–year–old Louise Yearwood was indeed one of their clients. Acting Director, Randolph Outram indicated that the RDC had previously done repairs to the house and Yearwood did return for additional assistance. However, as it relates to repairing the deteriorating home, the RDC acting director did not specify when repairs will commence or if a site visit will be conducted. “The RDC will endeavour to render that assistance as soon as it is in a position to do so,” Outram said. (BT)
WORRELL: I AM INNOCENT – “I DID nothing wrong.” Fired Central Bank Governor, Dr DeLisle Worrell, also charged he was never given a chance to defend against certain “allegations” and have a proper determination. Further, he described the initially botched attempt to remove him as against natural justice, the bank and employment rights legislation as well as “an abuse of discretion”. In addition, Worrell, who was also chairman of the board, warned the action then contemplated by Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler would cause “further long-term damage to Barbados’ image on the international financial market”. (SS)
COMMISSION TO CHALLENGE HYATT DECISION – Political activist David Comissiong will be legally challenging Government’s decision to approve construction of the new Hyatt hotel just outside Bridgetown. Comissiong, leader of the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP), said he will be going to the Supreme Court to have Prime Minister Freundel Stuart’s permission set aside. The permission was granted last month, and Comissiong expects to file his suit sometime this month. “I am definitely going to ask the Supreme Court of Barbados to carry out a judicial review to grant Mark Maloney’s company permission to build a 15-storey hotel on Bay Street,” he confirmed. (SS)
LOVER LOSES IN COURT – A recent ruling by the Court of Appeal has dealt a blow to the inheritance rights of the “outside” partner in a cohabiting relationship in which one companion is married. The court, comprising Chief Justice Marston Gibson and Justices of Appeal Sandra Mason and Kaye Goodridge, overturned a 2010 ruling by High Court Judge Olson Alleyne that a man who was separated from his wife, but not divorced, could be regarded as single. The panel ruled last month that in order to claim inheritance or to succeed to the estate of the man at the centre of the case, the claimant must have first cleared the hurdle of being classified as a spouse – a minimum five-year live-in relationship after a divorce. The appeal was brought by Albert Tony Selby, the brother of the deceased, Bertie Selby. The respondent was Katrina Smith, who was the lover of Bertie Selby. (SS)
MOTHER SEEKING JUSTICE - A mother wants to know if there is more than one law covering police brutality. Cheryl Cadogan has questioned why no indictments have been laid in her son’s claim after she read in the WEEKEND NATION that two police officers had been charged with the alleged beating of 20-year-old Nazim Blackett last year. Cadogan wants further clarification from the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Commissioner of Police as to why officers were not charged in connection with the brutal beating of her son, Andrew Pollard, in 2014, at the same District “A” Police station. The angry woman told the SUNDAY SUN that the circumstances were too similar to have two different outcomes as she, like Blackett’s mother, Tracey, had publicly complained about her son’s “life-threatening injuries”. (SS)
YOUNGER FOLK MAKING EARLY BURIAL PLANS - Many barbadians, some in the prime of their lives, are pre-planning their funeral arrangements – from final resting places to the clothes they want to be buried in and the hymns to be sung. Church leaders and funeral directors said that while this was nothing new, they were witnessing increasing numbers make early arrangements, even going as far as taking out loans in the knowledge that death not only causes grief, but also financial issues. Investing in a burial plot seems to be high on the death checklist. Peter Griffith, managing director of two private burial grounds, told the SUNDAY SUN that people were snapping up plots at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens, Christ Church, and Mount Pleasant, St Peter, for themselves and their families. (SS)
DORSETT KEEPS GOLD CUP AT HOME - Dorsett became the third horse to win back-to-back Sandy Lane Gold Cups when he won the 36th running of the Caribbean’s most prestigious race at the Garrison Savannah this evening. After the exciting finish there was a lengthy stewards’ inquiry on the winner but it was made final at the end and the positions stood. As the gates opened Dorsett broke dead last, his fans and bettors seemed upset and possibly thought all hope was lost. Four furlongs out and Dorsett was still last as fans began to turn their backs as second place finisher the Ken Ramsey entry High Noon had kicked for home. But like a bullet from a gun Dorsett rocketed from last to first to grab the lead and send the Grandstand into an uproar. (BT)
CHAMPION IN THE MAKING – Jalon Samuel is starting to make a move on the leaders. At just 23 years old, the Brittons Hill resident has already become one of Barbados’ greats, having joined an illustrious group of jockeys with three or more Gold Cup victories after yesterday’s historic ride aboard Dorsett. With yesterday’s success to add to wins in 2012 and 2016, Samuel has been just the sixth rider to win the southern Caribbean’s biggest race at least thrice, following in the footsteps of the legendary Emile Ramsammy (1985, 87, 88), Venice Richards (1986, 89, 91, 92), Patrick Husbands (1990, 2006, 2010, 2014) Andy Ward (1999, 2008, 2009) and Jono Jones (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003). “He’s just too good as he does what he does so well. He shouldn’t be here. Jalon should be out there riding. (SS)
TRUMP ACCUSES OBAMA OF TAPPING HIS PHONE - US President Donald Trump has accused his predecessor of wire-tapping his phone a month before he was elected. President Trump tweeted early on Saturday: “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my “wires tapped” in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” He went on to say that a court had earlier denied a wiretap request. The US president has given no details to back up the claim – or suggested which court order he was referring to. Media reports in the past few weeks have suggested the FBI had sought a warrant from the foreign intelligence surveillance court (Fisa) last summer in order to monitor members of the Trump team suspected of irregular contacts with Russian officials. The warrant was first turned down but then approved in October, according to the media reports. There has been no official confirmation and it is also not clear if this evolved into a full investigation. There has been no comment yet from ex-President Barack Obama. Mr Trump tweeted: “I’d bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to the Election.” He called the alleged tapping “a new low” and said “This is Nixon/Watergate” – referring to the most notorious political scandal of 1972, which led to the downfall of President Richard Nixon after a web of political spying, sabotage and bribery was exposed by the media. He also called it McCarthyism – the persecution for US Communists and their allies led by Senator Joe McCarthy in the 1950s. (BT)
SCHWARZENEGGER LEAVES CELEBRITY APPRENTICE - Arnold Schwarzenegger said on Friday he will not be back for another season of NBC’s reality show The Celebrity Apprentice, blaming U.S. President Donald Trump’s ongoing role as executive producer for low ratings. Action movie star Schwarzenegger took over as host of Celebrity Apprentice last year. His first season, which premiered in January, has been watched by around 4 million to 5 million viewers. “Everyone – from the celebrities to the crew to the marketing department – was a straight 10, and I would absolutely work with all of them again on a show that doesn’t have this baggage,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement. The actor’s representative said Schwarzenegger would not be returning for a second season. News that Trump will retain an executive producer credit on the show, which usually involves a payment, caused a media furore in December about potential conflicts of interest. Trump mocked Schwarzenegger and the 43 per cent fall in the coveted 18-to-49-year-old audience for the show's January premiere, sparking a Twitter fight between America’s two biggest celebrities-turned-politicians. “Wow, the ratings are in and Arnold Schwarzenegger got ‘swamped’ (or destroyed) by comparison to the ratings machine, DJT,” tweeted Trump. “I wish you the best of luck and I hope you’ll work for ALL of the American people as aggressively as you worked for your ratings,” Schwarzenegger tweeted back. Kung Pow Quahog – Review & How Did You Do Poll
Hey there readers, I’d like to welcome you to the path of peace and enlightenment, where today I’m going to be talking, not fighting, about the event that just was, Kung Pow Quahog. After 4 weeks and endless rounds of kung fu fighting it’s all over but for the poll, and that’s where we will find out if this event saw you savouring the sweet taste of victory or saw you feeling like you you’d been knocked out for the count.
Now I’ve been having fun doing these reviews for quite a few events now, but want to add a bit of info here to clear up something that has appeared in comments, namely where the commenters wrongly state I only get so far in events due to getting free clams from Bunny and/or TinyCo. Let me clear that up quickly, I get NO free clams from either Bunny or TinyCo, I play the game the way most addicts do, I earn free clams through gameplay or I buy them. And I have absolutely NO link to TinyCo outwith any contact through my in-game support when I have a glitch or issue. I hope that clears up any confusion over this.
The event certainly started with all the pressure on TinyCo, as the previous events had not gone down well, they were crippled by problem drops, poor execution and glitches galore. TinyCo really had to pull an event out of the bag, or they would be committing mobile app Hari-Kari. and you know what I think they did just that with Kung Pow Quahog. As much as I’ve no particular interest in martial artists or fighting games, I thoroughly enjoyed myself over the 4 phases of the event.
Right from the start we saw content pulled from the TV Show, we saw Walking Joe, Dojo Peter, the return of Mr Washee Washee, Yogi Fighter Brian and lots of Karate Kid content.
I was also glad to see this was a 4 week event, I couldn’t have faced anything longer after what had gone down in the Quahog’s Not So Silent Night event, but on the other hand neither did I want to see another mini-event with too much content to collect in too little time. So this seemed like a nice middle ground.
This event, from the start, also looked like fun, and I hoped that would continue as we started to play through the initial phase. And it did, I immediately saw improvements in the event that kept the fun factor going, Dojo Peter’s drops were good and the premium character costume, Walking Joe, would be a massive help in progress. So straight away two things we’ve been wanted delivered, better drops and better value for premium purchases. So despite the fighting theme, there seemed to be a renewed peace and calm all around us.
I said peace and calm guys, not peace and clam, but hey I’ll take either. As it appears TinyCo had reacted positively to the outpouring of despair over Quahog’s Not So Silent Night, Best of 2016 & Road To Bollywood, the terrible trio of events that saw players fingers hovering over the uninstall button.
I admit when I initially read the next event was martial arts related I was quite relaxed as having no great interest in it, I thought that’s my clam stash safe, not going spend anything on this event. But that changed when I saw Tai-Jitsu Lois, surely one of the best character costumes released to date. I dropped clams on her quicker than you can say Kill Bill, however there was a twist to my purchase which I’ll take more about later. So here I was unexpectedly playing a hybrid of freemium/premium again for an event that I didn’t think would float my boat.
So it really wasn’t long before I was happily Kung Fu Fighting, and enjoying the event immensely. From the start it was obvious TinyCo had made changes as Dojo Peter wasn’t a grind to unlock, and most of the new characters were freemium unlockables, whereas premium was concentrated around costumes. So I knew my character count was going to grow. And in the end that’s exactly what happened as I successfully completed the event unlocking all the freemium content, but I will be honest as always I played a lot. I’m lucky my work commitments have never seen me separated from my mobile so I can drop in and out my game during the day, and as I’m a member of insomniacs anonymous, I also drop in and out during the night. So I can play more than most, but it’s good to see that putting in the time is once again as successful as putting in your dime. For a while there pay or play, had become pay or pay!
But I am delighted that TinyCo are showing they hear what we’re saying, the results of our recent polls and comments made it clear to them they were facing a player exodus if something didn’t change. This event shows that although they are often slow to respond that they are listening. We saw a 4 week event, full of new characters and costumes. And we also saw the return of some popular old characters, Giant Chicken, Mr Washee Washee and M Miyagi. I believe this shows they want to re-engage with the Community and keep improving the game.
FORMAT: A 4 week event with no major gridlock in the earliest phases, this allowed players to move along, now I’m not saying everyone moved at the same pace, some were slower to get through the 2nd phase, which was probably the toughest and time hungry as usual, or delayed moving on to the next phase to build up resources, but for once this delay of progress was mostly down to the amount time you could put in or player choice and not a gridlock that meant they couldn’t move on. Yes fight contracts delayed play a little but it didn’t derail the entire event. And for many moving slowly through the phases paid off as the final Phase wasn’t content heavy, so if you weren’t bothered about defeating Killer Kung Pow Giant Chicken 8 times, you could use the final week to simply finish up things like unlocking the Golden Dragon.
CONTENT: More Family Guy TV show linked content. Walking Joe, the Karate Kid characters and more have all featured on the show. And the return of one of the best characters ever, Mr Washee Washee. Bing – Bong!!! The buildings and decorations were another top job by the animators, it’s a real shame the work these guys put out is sometimes lost into our inventories due to space and memory issues. And these fab looking buildings etc are why I’ve been trying to do some Show-Off posts.
OFFERING RESOURCES: I felt the task lengths for drops and frequency of drops were good, it was possible to constantly keep giving offerings to the Golden Dragon at the lower levels. In the Road to Bollywood event low offering drops saw most unable to attack the Ganesha boss, this saw less than 20% of players unlock Ganesha, and even then many of those spent clams to do so. Only 2% of players actually unlocked Ganesha freemium by the original end date of the event. That is a damning figure, and I’m looking forward to seeing how many unlocked the Golden Dragon character in this event. I predict the figure will be much, much higher. And it’s when we see improvements like this, it makes all our polls and comment gathering worth it.
CHARACTER DROPS: With regards to gameplay it was good to see less characters have multiple tasks for different drop items, I know there was still some crossover but that will always happen as core characters that were unlocked in the early Districts are used in events to allow newer players to join in. I really think TinyCo got the balance better in this event, the only early concern was over Fight Contract drops, when Phase 2 threatened to slow down due to a lack of these, but TinyCo responded in the phases that followed by adding more options to get these. Other items essential to fighting in the battle arena were always drops, so all that work to get them always paid off.
CHARACTERS AND COSTUMES: What did I like, well we got mostly characters as freemium unlocks and not costumes. Yes,a couple were timed, I’ll moan about that later believe me, but if you were looking for an event to increase your character count this was it. Including the returning characters there was an opportunity to add up to 8 characters in our games. And the likes or Mr Miyagi was previously a premium character, and now if we really worked our socks off, we could get him for free. And complete a FaceSpace set with Daniel & Johnny. Few free lames always welcome. Nice move TinyCo. And I know some players get upset when previous premiums are offered freemium, but I’ve no issue with that, usually they aren’t easy to pick up freemium and players need to really work for them.
Special mention to the character of the event for me, Golden Dragon, fantastic addition to the event and well worth working to unlock. And of course to the Character Costume of the event, Tai-Jitsu Lois, probably one of, if not the best costumes yet.
Also premium character costumes purchases were very, very useful during the event, more so than in previous events, so for those willing to spend clans at least you were getting a bit better value, something you’ve all been asking for. I purchased Tai- Jitsu Lois and flew through Phase 2 due to having her, in other events premium characters/costumes have hardly helped. But I will moan about the cost of these costumes soon, don’t say you weren’t warned there will be moans ahead.
And although I didn’t benefit from it there was the happy glitch that saw many get Giant Chicken into their games at last. Now let’s hope TinyCo pop him in Tan Lines for everyone else who still wants him.
STRUCTURE: For the most everything you needed to do in each phase was spelt out early by simply moving through the first few parts of the main Questline but there was an issue in placing the timed characters as a task early in a couple of the Questlines. But I’ll talk more about that later. The final week wasn’t content heavy which allowed those who move at a slower pace to get there or decide not to bother and concentrate on the Golden Dragon.
GAMEPLAY: They seem to be taking on board issues that derailed previous events, and mixing it up a bit. Yes we’ve seen the fighting in a previous event but it was made easier this time round, it’s obvious TinyCo had tweaked a few things after feedback from the Superhero event last year. And for me characters that were needed for fighting were for the most part kept off any long drop duties, only the odd crossover there, which let the event flow well.
FACESPACE: Good see this back again, please keep these sets going. They add a little glint to the game when you complete a set.
SUPPORT: There has been definite improvements again in this area, the meltdown in the previous events seemed to see cracks in the support again, but they seemed to have recovered. In fact this recovery started at the end of the Bollywood event when we saw many comments, from those who complained they’d spent clams to speed up tasks before the late extension, saying they were compensated by TinyCo. And this good service seemed to continue as a glitch in the Questline, regarding clearing nerds, in this event saw support react positively, replacing the Fight Contracts used up back in affected players games, and there was a genuine apology for information in the FAQ regarding Tai-Jitsu Lois being misleading. However there is still an over reliance on sending standard responses to players when there is a high volume support issue, which at times either appears to ignore players concerns or miss the nature of their complaint completely.
Now before you accuse me of being too nice to TinyCo there are a few problem areas that still seem raise their ugly heads event after event.
MYSTERY BOXES: It’s no mystery what my feelings on Mystery Boxes are, I continue to despair at the way TinyCo implements Mystery Boxes in events. Yes, I know we don’t need to buy them but anyone who saw Bunny’s results on the Sensei Stewie Mystery box will know exactly why I feel so strongly that the way these are set up is wrong. In case you didn’t read the post, it took Bunny 28 attempts at The Sensei Stewie mystery box to win the top prize, Ninja Stewie . At 150 clams a pop, that was 4200 clams to get the costume. Not even TinyCo can defend stats like that, it leaves a very sour taste in the mouth just typing about it now. So my gripes are still the same, 150 clams is an outrageous cost, the odds are ridiculous, repetitive materials need to go, and better content in the boxes is needed overall. If I could compare it to the recent Tapped Out Valentine mystery box, which got things perfect, 60 donuts a shot, and full of characters and premium buildings which all cost more than 60 donuts when originally available. And even although you might not win what you want you still got something of donut value. And players were very happy to see this mystery box over there with an outpouring of positive comments, here the FGQFS mystery boxes only bring about negative comments.
CHARACTER COSTUMES: The cost of these is way too high, costing the same or more than a full character is silly pricing.
TINYCO FAQ: Still not getting this right, wrong info continues in the game FAQ, although the general info has improved. I guess I should scream at them to get it right but then why would you need us, so I’ll just mention it quietly here.
QUESTLINES: Now the dialogue and tasks were fantastic, no issues at all there, but what I do find troublesome is a character with a timer being essential to completing an early part of a phases Main Questline. I’m talking about Daniel LaRusso & Johnny Lawrence here. As completing these parts saw people miss fact the characters were timed, if you must do it please put a warning on the task that it will start a timer.
Apart from that my main gripe in this event was the amount of side Questlines that built up due to Bonnie being needed for most of them, yet she was uber busy collecting Fight Contracts.
Also please bring in a reward for completing the final Phase Questline, 10 clams or so, an incentive to finish it.
WEEKLY CHALLENGES: The weekly challenges were once again toned down at first, and the early ones were achievable for all players but they again dropped a horrid surprise in the final challenge which made getting the full set extremely tough.
So fellow addicts, that’s some of my thoughts, I think you can see I personally think in this event TinyCo got a lot right but I want to stress they are just my thoughts, they in no way reflect what Bunny or Lotty felt about the event.
Anyway that’s my ramblings, now I want you to tell me your thoughts. Cause I honestly love to hear them. But please don’t turn this into a What the Deuce post by releasing your fists of fury in the comments as Bunny will put my head on the karate chopping board if you do. Please give us your feedback and thoughts in a calm zen way. Tell us what you like, don’t like? What you’d like to see more of, what you’d like to see less off. What your thoughts on this 4 week event? Share with us everything and anything you think would improve FGQFS, as TinyCo do read this blog and of course Bunny also takes your feedback to TinyCo. And if you can please take a minute to complete the end of event poll at the end of this event I’d be very grateful.
And just incase you can’t see the poll or find it jumps about when you’re trying answer, here’s the direct link:
