Yura Movsisyan appointed Armenia’s football Ambassador to North America
New Post has been published on https://armenia.in-the.news/sports/yura-movsisyan-appointed-armenias-football-ambassador-to-north-america-68788-01-02-2021/
Yura Movsisyan appointed Armenia’s football Ambassador to North America
Former Armenian national team striker Yura Movsisyan, who made a decision to retire, made an announcement with important messages included in it.
“Throughout my career, I have always been aware that this day will come for me too, and thought mine will be easier than what many of my retired friends were telling me, but man they were not kidding. For the past year, given everything that was happening with my injuries and leaving RSL, I made my mind up to better retire now with a few good offers on the table than try pushing it for another couple of years. Every time I have stepped on the field to play, I have given nothing less than a 100% and knowing right now that I won’t be 100% I would never disrespect my teammates and lie to them.
I’ve had 14 great years of doing what I love doing, and doing it all over the world. My family and I have lived in some of the best cities in the world. Denmark, Russia, Armenia, Sweden and the United States. I am thankful to all my club teammates and coaches. I am really happy to have played alongside some great players in great clubs.
Every football player that starts playing from a young age knows that representing your country is the biggest honor you can accomplish in your career. I decided to represent my home country of Armenia instead of the US National Team. Although playing for the US team would have given me a better chance to play in a World Cup, for me it was a bigger honor to be able to make a difference for my country Armenia. I joined the Armenian National Team in my 5th year of playing professional because I wanted to actually make a big difference when I arrived. I wanted to make a big difference and help change Armenian football when i arrived and i think I can proudly say that I brought change to Armenian Football. Being part of probably one of the best generations in football history in Armenia that has brought soo much joy to our people, is probably my biggest accomplishment in my 14 year career.
Summarizing it all I want to thank all my teammtes in the national team. Without them my career would never be what it was like. A big thank you to all the coaches and staff, both of the national team and the FFA, to all those people who had an important role during my career. Special thanks to our amazing fans, who were by my side during the most difficult times for me. I hope and I am sure that we will meet soon, whatever my status will be.”
FFA president Armen Melikbekyan appointed Yura Movsisyan as the FFA ambassador in North America.
“Yura Movsisyan is one of the best Armenian players after independence. I am sure his knowledge, experience and enthusiasm will be very useful for the cooperation we are going to start. Yura Movsisyan will be the bridge which will help to make the links between FFA and our compatriots in North America stronger,- Armen Melikbekyan, FFA president said.
Yura Movsisyan: “I am very honored to be appointed as the ambassador. After retiring from football I want to be as helpful to our football as I can. A lot of Armenians live in USA and in North America. This is the reason it’s important to have good links between the diaspora and Armenia, have a contribution in solving the problems faster and development of the football.”

Government will continue to support football development programs in Armenia – Pashinyan
New Post has been published on https://armenia.in-the.news/politics/government-will-continue-to-support-football-development-programs-in-armenia-pashinyan-76249-13-07-2021/
Government will continue to support football development programs in Armenia – Pashinyan
Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received President of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) Armen Melikbekyan and First Deputy President of the FFA Armen Nikoghosyan.
Nikol Pashinyan noted that football is one of the spheres where our society sees real significant changes. “I must emphasize that the government welcomes these changes, as they bring very strong results. I can also emphasize that the national football team, with its victories in a very difficult period for our country, in fact, became the forerunner in bringing back positive feelings to the country and the people,” he said.
On the other hand, Pashinyan said, “I do not want us to put a very heavy burden on the shoulders of our football team.”
“But I consider it important that in Armenia’s transformation strategy until 2050 we have emphasized that we expect the national football team of the Republic of Armenia to record very concrete results. Our expectation is that by that time the team will not only reach the finals of the European or World Cup, but will also be able to win prizes,” the acting PM noted.
“Of course, it is clear that this is a rather difficult, long way, but in any case, the development of the football economy and infrastructure is important not only in terms of sports, but also in terms of organizing the socio-economic life of the country,” Nikol Pashinyan said.
He pledged support to all programs, noting that the Government will do its best to support the processes that have begun in the football life.
Armen Melikbekyan thanked Nikol Pashinyan for the appreciation. “In fact, we felt the support of the government and various bodies during the most difficult moments of the war, after the war, because without that support, in such a difficult situation, it would not be possible to organize the matches that we were obliged to hold in the international arena,” he said.
“It is very important for us that in really difficult moments, football as a social phenomenon was able to bring some support to Armenia,” the FFA President said. He noted that the minimum goal until 2025 is to reach the final stage of the World or European Championship.
Nikol Pashinyan and the FFA leaders discussed the programs aimed at the development of football in Armenia, which are aimed at improving the football infrastructure in the country, youth football, ensuring the progress of youth and national teams, as well as the development of club football.

Armenia to introduce VAR system by 2022
Armenia has started the process of introducing VAR system in the country, President of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) Armen Melikbekyan said at the 21st regular assembly of the FFA.
The role of the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) is to assist the referee to determine whether there was an infringement that means a goal should not be awarded. As the ball has crossed the line, play is interrupted so there is no direct impact on the game.
“This is an important step, which should help our referees performs on a higher level. The introduction of the system will take 8-10 months and we hope to test the system during the Armenian league matches in 2022,” Melikbekyan said.
He added that the process is rather complex and is not only connected with the acquisition of technical supplies, but also the training of referees.
The FFA Chairman said the VAR system will undoubtedly help improve the championship, and a vivid proof of this are the Euro-2020 matches we are currently watching.
