A Call for Help from Gaza

Dear compassionate hearts,

My name is Manal. My husband was everything—a father, a husband, a brother. I live in Gaza with my family, which includes his elderly mother, myself, our children, my widowed sister, and her children. We used to live together in a modest home that provided us with safety and shelter despite our struggles.

During the recent war, our lives turned into a nightmare. We were forced to flee on foot for 10 kilometers with our children, hoping to return to something resembling normal life once the war ended. But when we came back, we found our home reduced to rubble.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Today, we have no roof over our heads. We live among the ruins, exposed to the harsh winter cold and strong winds. My children, like all children, deserve warmth, safety, and a secure place to sleep, but we are unable to provide them with any of that.

I am reaching out to anyone who can hear my plea—whether Arab or international—to help us rebuild our lives. We are in desperate need of assistance to rebuild our home or at least rent a small apartment where we can find shelter and protection from the elements.

Arcana Analysis--Hazbin Hotel: Alastor (The Sun)

For the record, I think the hype around this character is a little much. Especially when it comes to shipping Doesn't mean I hate him, though.

Now we have Alastor, the infamous Radio Demon. One of the biggest enigmas among the cast, he's the benefactor for Charlie's hotel, a rather insincere one, only supporting it so that he'll derive amusement from if it fails. As was already stated, his existence and history in Hell is a mystery...

I picked his card as The Sun, number nineteen in the major arcana deck. It seems like a curve ball pick, considering the darkness of Alastor's character, but here's what The Sun represents: joy, positivity, and confidence--all of them relate to the concept of smiles, a core facet of Alastor's character.

The most prominent part of Alastor's character is his jovial, outgoing personality clashing with the fact that he's terrifying. We get a good hint to that nature even before he makes his first full physical appearance in the pilot when he shows up at Charlie's hotel, where he ominously knocks on the door... with the beat of "Shave and a Haircut", a popular comedic riff that was particularly well known in the 1920s and 1930s, the time frame of Alastor's death in the human world.

The contrast is made more apparent in Alastor's formal nature and tendency to be passive-aggressive. The Sun reversed comes into play here, representing your positivity getting excessive. For instance, Overture, the first episode of season 1, has him make an unflattering commercial for the hotel while still keeping his usual lighthearted self--the source of the show's name coming from Alastor himself, to discredit the hotel. Another big example is Alastor's thinly-veiled ego, which gets noticeable when he interacts with people within his own weight class and beyond. "Stayed Gone" has him sing-duel with Vox, a TV media-themed Overlord and one-third of the Vees, a trio of vicious Overlords--both sides sling insults at each other, but Alastor smugly overpowers Vox by picking apart his petulant nature and attracting a bigger audience than him. And he does it all without losing his cool. His rivalry with Lucifer, the King of Hell and leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, however, is another story. Lucifer ignores him at first, even saying he doesn't know about what he does, which rubs Alastor, a little lower on Hell's hierarchy, the wrong way. When Lucifer questions his relation to Charlie, his daughter, Alastor proceeds to insult in various ways while barely keeping his composure. The rivalry comes to a standstill when a guest arrives, but the two still hate each other's guts.

In the same episode, Hell's Greatest Dad, Husk, who is owned by Alastor, reveals in private that he, too, is owned by someone--"Big talk for someone who's also on a leash", Husk says. That big reveal leads to one of the biggest mysteries of Alastors character: Who Owns Him? The back half of the season proceeds to hint that Alastor isn't as cocksure as he seems--The Sun reversed comes in again, this time indicating negative feelings. The guest, Mimzy, is an old friend of Alastor's and knows his history in Hell. She says that he used to be just another Sinner, but then he took on past Overlords and won--and he broadcasted their screams before revealing he did the deed, thus explaining his "Radio Demon" moniker. As stated a few times already, however, Alastor is outranked by quite a few people, even being owned by someone more powerful than him, which is a major sore spot for him. We can infer from all of this that he's afraid of being perceived as weak and losing control. One quote from episode seven reinforces the idea. "Just because you see a smile, don't think you know what's going on underneath. A smile is a valuable tool, my dear. It inspires your friends, keeps your enemies guessing, and ensures that no matter what comes your way, you're the one in control."

The season finale then becomes a huge wake-up call for Alastor. He fights against Adam, leader of the Exorcists, and it seems that Alastor has the upper hand with his strategical and technical prowess, in comparison to Adam's brute fighting style. However, Adam manages to overpower Alastor, even coming close to killing him. While Alastor is able to retreat, he's presumed dead in the interim. He proceeds to have a private breakdown about his growing vulnerability and desperately vows to double down on his dark nature when he returns to the hotel.

So to sum it up, Alastor's arc is a double indicator of The Sun reversed: his overt joy is his way of hiding his fears as well as his vulnerable place in Hell's hierarchy. Considering the fact that it's costing him his sanity, Season 2 is sure to show him reach new lows.

Day 3: Leaves Changing

Naofumi

When you were first brought here with the other four cardinal heroes as the whip hero you were shocked and a bit scared but everyone seemed to be thinking different thoughts. The spear especially seemed more disgusting than anyone else however no one other than the shield hero seemed to be taking it seriously and on top of that the shield hero was accused of assaulting someone when it was clearly obvious it was a setup by his reaction. Which got you to quickly go after Naofumi and partner up with him after he got pissed off that you wouldn’t stop following him. It took a long time even after the first wave for you both to become close enough for him to trust you as a close friend and slowly but surely as a partner romantically. Of course, both of you were taking it slowly but the small moments where it was just the two of you were special. Like the night stroll, you were taking now.

You and Naofumi were walking through the forest while Filo and Raphtalia had already fallen asleep, hands held tightly as you looked at the trees shaking in the wind and smiling at the moonlight filtering through the leaves. “It’s beautiful out tonight. The sky hasn’t been this clear in a while and I’m going to miss it when winter comes but the leaves dropping are stunning.” you murmured and walked in time with your lover, leaning your head against his shoulder and hearing him hum thoughtfully. “It is. It reminds me of home but I’m glad that I get to have these moments with you. I don’t know what I’d do without you since you’ve been with me through it all,” he said quietly and squeezed your hand, stopping at a cliff’s edge and turning to face you. He picked a colorful leaf off of a nearby tree that shined differently in the moonlight and held it to your tunic, grinning at the matching color, and tipped your chin up with his fingers. “Although I’m more grateful to spend my first winter here with you and our team. Thanks for sticking with me, Name.” he said softly with a rare smile and kissed your cheek quickly, starting to lead you back to camp as the wind picked up and you happily followed along. The leaves were falling and the winter season would be here soon which meant you could try to get some cuddles out of your boyfriend.

Muriel had asked you if you wanted to come with him on the walk in the forest to see if the runes told anything about the aftermath of the incident with the devil and Lucio. So there you were passing by the trees with Inanna at your side occasionally nuzzling against your hand and running ahead whenever she saw or sensed something out of the ordinary. Muriel held your hand with a small smile looking around the forest at the colorful leaves that fell around you both and made a crunching noise. “Look at all the beautiful leaves. I think fall is a close favorite of the seasons.” he said softly and looked around, picking a leaf mid-fall before it landed on the ground and handing it to you. You smiled back and leaned up to kiss him, squatting down and picking up good leaves before putting them in your bag. “What are doing, love?” he asked and watched as you stood back up. “I’m collecting them so I can make a fall crown when we get back. It should be easier with them being fresh.” You said and took his hand in yours again.

Never would have suspected to be on your way back to the hotel with the Radio Demon happily admiring the leaves changing on a more forested side of the pride ring, occasionally glancing over at you with his trademark smile. “It’s such a lovely day isn’t it, my dear?” he asked and glanced at you, waiting for you to answer and picking a leaf from the air. He spun it between his fingers, it looked like a regular leaf but bright orange with deep crimson veins. “It is a nice day, isn’t it? I never imagined that leaves in hell would be similar to ones in the living world. Some of them even match your color scheme.” You pointed out and picked one off the ground, holding it close to his coat and smiling softly. He hummed in thought and looked down at the comparison, shrugging his shoulders and continuing on. “If you say so, sweetheart. Although,” he said and stopped, turning back to you and taking your hand to kiss the back of it. “I would say that you are lovelier than the leaves around us.” He said and smiled at you.

I had someone point out that I made alastor the Ace, and he is ace. This was a coincidence, but it is pretty funny. Angel and his guns simply did fit the card.

Lore in the Merch

Okay, so as I'm sure everyone has probably already heard, the latest line of merch from Vivziepop just dropped this morning on Shark Robot, and as I was perusing the list, figuring out exactly what it was that I was going to snag for myself, I found something that I thought was just a hair interesting.

Okay, so in the t-shirt line, there are a bunch of glow in the dark tees featuring various hazbin and helluva characters in the style of tarot cards, which were, to be fair, exceptionally neat.

And yes, I've already ordered one.

However, as I was admiring the designs later in the evening to make sure I got the one I wanted, just in case I missed any, I noticed that there were little numbers on each of the designs.

One quick trip to google later, I realized they were all for corresponding tarot cards from the major arcana, which, admittedly, does make a great deal of sense, all things considered.

It would be a little weird if they were supposed to be tarot cards and didn't have the numbers in the design.

That, I will assent.

In any case, I did a little digging and I found that Beelzebub was the sun, Blitz was the moon, Charlie and Vaggie were the strength card, Human Loona was the chariot, and Alastor was the devil.

And while my first response was 'yeah, that tracks', when I started to think about it, to really think about it, I realized that perhaps there was more here than just a funny little reference to a tarot card deck.

For example, Stolas got the star card for his tarot card number, and if one digs into the deeper meaning of what the star represents in the arcana, there are a number of parallels with his story and character that tie in with the star card. Finding new meaning, holding a new sense of self, discovering a new sense of purpose, getting away from your crazy ass ex-wife, just to name a few.

So, it makes sense that he'd get the star card.

Furthermore, Angel Dust got the hanged man card for his number, which also makes sense because, from my understanding, it's all about taking pause to reevaluate your strategy on life and consider whether or not this is the right way to go before taking the next step. 'The thinking that got into this mess won't get you out of it and it's time for a change' sort of card. So, considering his horrible life as a pornstar/ prostitute/ stripper and wanting to get away from it all by making a split second decision and submitting to the Happy Hotel for redemption treatment instead of just continuing on the way he's been would be more than enough to qualify him for the Hanged Man.

So, what does the card for Alastor mean?

Sure, it's easy to write it off with a 'well, he's the Devil of the show' sort of thing, but I suspect it has far more to do with his own way of thinking than it does anything else. I'm not an expert on tarot, but from what I can glean, the devil card has something to do with being trapped or restricted or held back by something that keeps you from being your best self; self-imposed limitations, or a lack of power, or feeling like you're not in control, or there's some external force that making someone feel like they're powerless to affect their situation, so they might as well not even try to change it, which, honestly, doesn't sound like Alastor at all, given what little we know about him thus far.

it sounds like something he might inflict, sure, but not something he'd be going through himself personally.

However, given the nature of the other cards and how those arcanas are linked to the individual character's arcs, logic dictates that the symbolism of the arcana are directly tied to the characters and their struggles.

So, what gives here?

Is Alastor really trapped a prison of his own making?

Does he actually feel powerless about his situation, which is why he outrightly dismissed Charlie's redemption scheme because, in his mind, it's far too late to change and there's no undoing what's been done?

Is that what's really going on here?

Or am I overthinking things again?

Well, either way, they hid lore in the merch.

I just wanted to point that out.

Furthermore, if they actually did foreshadow future character developments within the tarot card shirts for a show that has yet to premiere, I will officially be impressed.

That was clever.
