just finish hunger games movie series & screaming at songbirds n snakes bc it not just a prequel just to be prequel just for money just to put series name into people mouth again. or separate story that happen in same universe with mild connections but can be see as separate. but prequel that add so much extra depth n meaning to original. read live comments as watch & many posts by others, all help explain things to me n here some thoughts after
only watched 1 & 2 when younger n didn’t understand A Thing n it amazing rewatching n see how much missed n see how it. all not that hidden
all parallels…. obvious one be katniss/lucy gray but also, peeta/lucy gray, katniss/S (snow’s “friend” from school forgot spelling), katniss’ prim/tigress’ snow, katniss/snow, how songbirds n snakes plural n now snow n lucy gray both at same time, etc etc
end of movie lucy gray escape n snow can’t find, n go back to capital, n then line from old/original/“present day” snow.
n then IMMEDIATELY song from lucy gray to snow
imagine it as something song to snow, ringing around his ears his head, during katniss era, end of his presidency during rebel revolution, from full start of it at beginning of mockingjay where still think can win, to slowly, clearly him losing.
really. really want re-boot of original 3 but through snow perspective because. truly want see his reaction to all lucy gray parallels. n parallels with younger him… “similar situation but produce vastly different result”. see katniss first volunteered, see her name. what went on mind when first saw her mockingjay pin. when katniss mention places at 12 he went to with lucy gray. when mockingjay became full rebel symbol. when katniss sing lucy gray song (n not knowing who it from but song survives).
n. if lucy gray able see it. her reaction to katniss & to snow’s reaction to katniss.
“Oh, you think I'm gone 'cause I left / But I'm in the trees, I'm in the breeze” n it so true n that song absolute perfect (always heard this line as “you think i’m gone because i *lived*” n honestly like that better)
don’t find it as “corruption arc” or story about how snow turn evil from good to evil because circumstances but more of. it in snow all along & he actively chose all choices that lead him to this, when given choice he chose self over others all along (like him help lucy gray in game doing that whole time because for himself for his benefit). n movie show him amateur school boy do that -> grow into him professionally doing that. as game master (think it implied at end he become one?). n as president
mockingjay (entire main series but especially out in open in mockingjay) not meant to be just another action based movie with hero leader in charge inspire all & defeat bad guys n how good will beat evil in end. n if go into it expect it be another one of those going be disappointed n find boring. katniss from very beginning been victim & child who pushed to be this “hero” be seen as one unwillingly & not realize it & not want it. didn’t enjoy some mockingjay film choices & it confusing & find pacing weird (find most films split into parts have weird pacing) but ultimate story think it way it meant to be
what typically would expect is after katniss go to 13, would be hail as hero by crowd put in leadership position & all respect from coin & coin willingly step down n say how been waiting reserving this for katniss all along hope she come to. n katniss willingly naturally get into that lead role n lead resistance n ultimately win n capture bad guy n now new era of totally completely different… except it none of that. subversion of trope absolute perfect
instead all that, instead at front of line of fire. katniss be front of camera.
n how even more real it is… wondering how much… (not much) would be different after “revolution” from snow to coin.
coin proposing new hunger games… all while pretending choose word so carefully so delicately. revolution in truest sense—revo-, around, 360 degree, back where started.
really think snow’s reaction at end of mockingjay well done. his conversation with katniss in plant place. him bursting out laughing when katniss shot coin instead of him.
n now after watch songbirds & snakes. double think so.

“I’m in Love with the Villainess” timeline
When it comes to 「I’m in Love with the Villainess」 the author, Inori.-sensei, stated that there are two story arcs: Act 1 regarding the events of Revolution and Act 2 regarding the events of Revo-Lily
Even though I understand this scheme, I don’t really think that it represents the story well, especially when there’s so much that happened in “Act 2”
The following below is what I believe are the timeline of events. And it should NOT be taken as any way to read the Light Novels. If you want to read WataOshi, just read it in order and not this mess. This is only a categorization of events to order it better.
Tumblr media
A more detailed explanantion below:
The main timeline of events follows the Light Novels heavily. And every other adaption follows this as well. The other adaptions will be mentioned after the main timeline. There are five volumes of WataOshi and they will be referred to in the discussion. As a refresher, the following chapters that are in each volume are:
Volume 1: Chapters 1 - 3
Volume 2: Chapters 4 - 8
Volume 3: Chapters 9 - 11
Volume 4: Chapters 12 - 15
Volume 5: Chapters 16 - 18
There are also bonus stories in Volumes 2 and 3 that are relevant to the division of the timeline.
Act 1: Revolution
“Revolution” is the Otome Game that Rei Ohashi is very normal about and is the setting for the main events here. Where Rae Taylor, a new student at the Royal Academy from the Kingdom of Bauer, has three romanceable options— and she goes straight for Claire, the Villainess, obviously. The story covers Rae and Claire going through the main plot of Revolution as they fall in love and grow together. With Rae’s antics on her beloved Miss Claire 😅. It’s also the most yuriful Act as the ones later don’t focus on the yuri. This act is covered by Volumes 1 and 2, which include chapters 1-8 of the entire story. Note: that I consider that this Act includes the Epilogue from Volume 2 as it serves as a finale for the Act. Although it chronologically takes place during the Interlude, it fits better thematically at the end of Act I to show a bit of their lives after the revolution as closure to this chapter of their life.
Interlude: Our New Life
Named after chapter 9 from Volume 3, this details the life of Rae and Claire after the Revolution. Where they work as teachers in their former academy, fall in love (motherly love) with their new children, get married, and all the fun things they do at home. It’s so wholesome that I actually tear up. I separated this from Act II as it already feels separated from the rest of the story in terms of tone. I love this to death and their family is so heartwarming and it’s also completely necessary to the story as this is the life they love and they will fight for it in the next Act. This interlude is covered by Volume 2 Bonus Chapter and Volume 3 Bonus Stories and Chapter. Another reminder that the story should not be read in this order, please read it in the order of the volumes. For documentation’s sake, the following is taken from Volume 3, where Inori.-sensei dictates the chronological events of the Bonus Stories.
Chronologically, the stories take place as follows:
Vol. 2, Final Chapter: “Revolution”
Vol. 3, Bonus Story 1: “Things Gained, Things Lost”
Vol. 2, Bonus Chapter: “Curses and Good Luck Charms”
Vol. 3, Bonus Story 2: “Wedding”
Vol. 2: “Epilogue”
Vol. 3, Bonus Story 3: “Sweet, Sweet Alcohol”
Vol. 3, Bonus Story 6: “Your Pain Is Not Punishment”
Vol. 3, Bonus Chapter: “The Lady Who Leapt Through Time”
Vol. 3, Bonus Story 4: “Birthdays”
Vol. 3, Bonus Story 5: “Holy Night Festival”
Vol. 3, Chapter 9–11
Act II: Revo-Lily
“Revolution: Lily Side”, also known as “Revo-Lily” by fans, is the spin-off sequel to Revolution where it takes place in the Nur Empire and the protagonist is Princess Philine Nur and— It’s time for Rae and Claire to influence to stop the impending war on Bauer and protect the life they developed! The story covers Rae and Claire, living steady in their normal life until they were called to go to the Nur Empire as part of a Student-Exchange program to help relations. As Rae remembers, this will be part of the Revo-Lily story and they try to lead Princess Philine to her own Revolution route against her mother, Empress Dorothea. However, not everything goes to plan! Philine develops feelings for Claire?! An assassination attempt on the Pope?! Demons appear?! And we question what Rae truly is! The story here is really interesting as Rae’s own clairvoyance isn’t as prominent as it was in the first Act and everyone works together for this plot to happen. This act is covered by Volumes 3 and 4. Personally, the events that follow after Volume 4 may be directly connected but the main plot of Revo-Lily ends by Volume 4, so I believe that it is fitting to end Act II here and Act III is where the finale begins.
Act III/Finale: The Truth of the World
Following Empress Dorothea being overthrown, the Demon Queen finally declares war. She is the strongest adversary, even more so than Dorothea, what’s more is the truth of who she is… The fate of the world is at stake! With the help of everyone at this point and a new suspicious ally, they all work together take the Demon Queen on. We also see how important Rae and Claire are to each other. I’ll try not to spoil too much but know that Volume 5 covers this entire Act.
Following this are the adaptions of WataOshi and how much have they adapted.
Manga
The manga written by Sumio Aono is an amazing adaption and made me fall in love with the characters and brought to life so many moments from the Light Novels where I believe that this adaption is amazing and sometimes clears Inori.-sensei’s original script. I have faith that this will make the rest of the story so worth catching up even when I already know what happens next. That aside, the manga (at the time of writting this, May 31, 2025) has adapted most of Act I, up to chapter 7 of the Light Novels and will soon start to adapt chapter 8.
Anime
The anime admittedly is a somewhat low budget production where the animation is serviceable but that’s fine because it’s really fun to see the gang animated and voiced. I love the OP and EDs they’re so fun with Rae and Claire’s CVs singing them. Regardless, the anime has adapted up to chapter 4 for the first and only season so far. It also heavily follows the manga which is fine since that is a great adaptation. This is a great way to end the anime as they are finally starting something with their relationship as Claire finally says that Rae is her’s 🥺❤️‍🔥. Also tangent, I love Rae’s English VA it fits her personality so well if WataOshi was written in English instead she brings her chaotic side to life.
Manhwa
I DID NOT KNOW THAT THERE WAS A MANHWA ADAPTION LIKE WHAT?? My first thought was “can’t they just translate the manga…?” but actually it might be better for Korean audiences to have it in a format they’re familiar with. And Inori.-sensei also does consider the Korean audiences (as seen in her PixivFanbox having Korean translations alongside English). I have only skimmed through chapter 1 (I don’t know Korean so I just enjoyed the beautiful illustrations) but like with the only other adaptions it must have adapted some chunk of Act I. Sorry that it’s inconclusive but this is as much as I can so far.
Lastly are the other works made by Inori.-sensei that are canon to WataOshi.
She’s so Cheeky for a Commoner
Claire François is a young high ranking noble studying in the Royal Academy at the Kingdom of Bauer. She thought that she would have a normal school life like she had had for years now — until this strange commoner showed up and changed everything… For the better. This is a retelling of Act I through Claire’s point of view. When first read through it I didn’t know that it was only for Act I but it was a fun read regardless. Often shortened to SSCC, this showed what was running through Claire’s mind in important events of WataOshi and a completely original storyline featuring Claire’s mysterious Roommate, Catherine. It was advertised as “WataOshi but with Claire’s POV” but it has many POVs of many characters, even Claire’s two friends that were left on the wayside in the main story. Even when this is an optional read when it comes to the sequel in the next section, it’s completely worth reading in my opinion as seeing Claire grow is such a treat.
Turn Around and Face Me!
Enough with formalities, I know that this is the spin-off and sequel — that I just learned of as well (while browsing through tumblr, where I finally got the name) — and it was hinted since the end of Volume 5 but I didn’t expect that it would go this way. What was stated in the volume was a down to earth love story with Aleah and May. Now that’s great, I’d love to see them. Problem: WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT ALEAH IS ATTRACTED TO LILLY WHAT HUH EXCUSE ME WHEN WHAT IN THE YURI HELLO SORRY WHY HOW WHAT??? I ALSO JUST LEARNED THAT LILLY WAS LIKE THIRTEEN DURING ACT I LIKE NO ONE SAID THAT WHAT?? AND THATS STILL LIKE A NINE YEAR AGE GAP BETWEEN ALEAH AND LILLY WHAT HUH HELLO?? THIS IS A FUCKING MESS AND I CANT WAIT TO READ WHAT INORI.-SENSEI HAS COOKED UP, REGARDLESS OF QUALITY OR SANITY.
Now then for a closer: I don’t know how to close this bruh. I love WataOshi it’s my favorite Yuri series as of late and I’ve been obsessed with it for the past few months. If you want to read the WataOshi Light Novels, SSCC, and Turn Around and Face Me! (TAFM probably), I’ll link it down below. Please support the author through PixivFanbox and buying the physical media such as Light Novels, Manga, and idk if the anime helps them.

*WANTED CONNECTIONS MASTERLIST/WISHLIST ( OC EDITION ) ;
clover d. iselda ---
more marine interactions; canons, ocs, you name it. i think some primary ones i'm eager to see her interact with would be: garp, koby, sengoku, tashigi, and smoker. but, really just anyone!
also, she herself is a captain so i do wanna see some captain / subordinate ineractions? i don't know if there are many marine ocs that would be a subordinate to her, but i want to explore what she would be like as a superior.
vergo. oh god, i can't say it would end well for her and it wouldn't be purely antagonistic, but yeah. this one would be so interesting.
more antagonistic relationships in general. in any verse of hers. forced to work together, enemy coworkers, i don't trust you but i trust you with my life, any type of relationship that isn't very friendly or straight up enemies.
for her shipwright verse, i'd love to write with a franky. i think that she really admires him, not in a fan type way, in a --- you're a cool, solid guy way. (also any of the other shipwrights and cp agents that were undercover).
kazumi haru ---
anyone from the akazaya nine !
the ship he stowed away on when he ran away from home. could be pirate crew, mercenaries, marines, etc.!
any plots set during the wano arc
possibly baroque works plots!
boldly going to say i ship him and robin, so if there are any interested robin writers... please call me.... (obviously, we can test for chemistry and nothing is set in stone, no pressure < 33)
nina liu ---
any underworld type muses ! or crime family type muses from the op verse. they could be business partners, alliances (temporary / betrayal also v much interested ), rivals, straight up enemies.
more cipher pol interactions for her cp specific verse! field mission, having her do a fitting for your muse, blackmailing her, a fun little gossip sesh, what have you.
interactions with the vinsmoke family!
otorobashi akai ---
any strawhat interactions! most wanted; luffy because a little captain vs. captain action would be cool. akai is super curious about this little guy.
any golden era pirates like roger, rayleigh, whitebeard, oden, kaido, and their crews. of course, ocs of this era as well!!
the marine that's out to finally capture this menace. a little cat and mouse plot would be cool. even a cipher pol agent or a bounty hunter!
rival pirate crews, temporary allied pirate crews, betrayals! just pirate dynamics.... please.
quetzal d. luna ---
any strawhat interactions! she would adore them. she's just the type of funky land humans that she'd want to be friends with.
really, any interactions in general! nothing too serious for her just because i think i want to establish some fun dynamics for this muse first before doing anything very dramatic or serious.
zephyr ---
any nami's that are interested in an older brother! obviously, i'm down for the needed plotting for this. i don't have anything set in stone as to how they meet again or under what circumstances. just that they were separated during the war on their home island.
any revolutionary army muses! he was rescued by the revo army in my canon and then later on, seeks them out to join them.
mentor/mentee relationship with him as the mentee! open to any capacity.
fight threads! whether fighting against each other or together.
zhi hua ---
because she's on akai's crew, all that was mentioned for his applies to her too!
**NOTE: any original characters, such as ocs that are strawhats, are counted, of course when i say i want strawhat connections.

My March 2025 Japanese toy haul got here a few days ago. I love the Eren's titan form Revoltech, but I am a bit sad that it doesn't come with a window display box as well. Like with Link's ToTK deluxe Figma version. That has a fancy sleeve and a window display box as well. That would have been my ideal choice for this version of Eren's Revo. I'm still super happy that I was able to purchase him. I wanted the Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden) one as well, but I wasn't able to justify his price. Mostly, because I have zero figures based on him, and I don't know I want to start with such a huge expense for such a tiny figure. In my excuse, there's zero figures based on Ryu, outside of a handful of scaled statues that I can't justify either. I might still try to get one, if my budget allows. Which, might never come to be, with how things are going right now...T___T;;;
From top far left to bottom right: MegaHouse LookUp Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom Kira Yamato & Athrun Zala Complete Non-Scale Figures; BanDai Spirits "Black Butler: Public School Arc" Tekupiku Sebastian Michaelis & Ciel Phantomhive Non-Scale Complete Figures; Kaiyodo Revoltech Amazing Yamaguchi Attack on Titan (Eren); Jamma EVA MICRO MACRO Premium Twin Figure -First Impact- Rei Ayanami & Kaworu Nagisa (Game-prize) Non-Scale Figures; Cospa Code Geass Re;surrection New Illustration Lelouch Tin Badge; Square Enix FINAL FANTASYVII Polygon Soft Vinyl Cloud Strife Non-Scale Figure; BanDai Namco NARUTO VIBRATION STARS -GARA & UCHIHA SASUKE- Sasuke Uchiha (Game-prize) None Scaled Figure; PICCODO PIC-H001CW Alternative Hand Set A, B & C In Cream White; Caravan KAITO x SOLWA Art by Tozai Acrylic Stand.
I also included photos of my Total Anime Eren's figure. I am not sure how to feel about those figures. The one I would have really loved owning is the Ken Kaneki one, because there are not that many figures based on him either. However, it seems like T4rget is making it hell, for some of us to be able to get him. Not even sure why they wanted it as an exclusive, just to make it a pain in the lower back for actual fans, and a day at the park for scalpers, I guess? DX

So fun fact: I read Rezo's fanwiki page before I properly watched the series for the first time, and as a result was thoroughly spoiled on a lot of things. And there's one particular sentence that piqued my curiosity, especially after I finished the first season.
"He [Rezo] also transferred the prince of Taforashia and his good friend Duclis' souls to their current beast forms..."
'Huh,' I thought to myself, 'So Rezo's friends with some guy called Duclis? Doesn't seem to be a big plot point since the various wiki pages don't talk about it much outside of this brief mention, but still neat, especially considering how few relationships Rezo seems to have in the show.'
So I was looking forward to REVO/EVO-R for a while and seeing a potential glimpse into Rezo having a social life of some sort and whatever further insight that might give me into his character.
And then Duclis's arc came and went in Revolution and nobody ever mentioned if Duclis and Rezo ever so much as knew each other before the Durum disease thing happened and I was 'Huh. Maybe it'll come up later, when we get to jar!Rezo.'
And then there was still no mention of Rezo and Duclis being friends and the series ended and I
Brilliant and insightful master of reading comprehension that I am
Concluded 'Damn, I can't believe someone went and edited their weird headcanon into Rezo's fanwiki page. That's annoying.'
And it took me like several months to put together what was actually meant.
(Duclis is a good friend of the prince of Taforashia. Not Rezo. Rezo has no friends.)

Rambling about Bravely default 2
Not checking this game any sooner was probably the dumbest thing i ever did
Art : Naoki ikushima’s art is peak so I dont have much to say in that regard that being said the models did look off to me. Nothing too bad you get used to it but it felt like they were trying to blend the traditional chibi model with a more semi-realistic style so the result was a bit … off. That being said I was pleasantly surprise to see they tried to retain the watercolor style background that the 3ds games had. Since the switch doesnt have 3D vision i feared they would not keep it
designs : honestly i think they are all pretty good but i give props to the mage class for all following the same style of clothing, lorewise it makes sense given how Wiswald is established as a country of scholar (like how Al Khampis was in BS)
gameplay : so its seems that unlike the previous games BD 2 follows a more typical turn system by RPG’s standards. I personally dont mind but I can see why some people miss the previous system. The jobs are interesting but much like the previous games you still have the issue of some jobs being kinda meh and others being absurdly broken like the thief. But that being said the game’s difficulty is very hight like, much more compared to the previous games. It also seems the changed stuff regarding the world map. BD and BS had a more DQesque approach where the giant model of your party leader would walk on a world map but in BD 2 you have to use the roads of each kingdom to access said kingdom, which honestly ? I actually like that its feels more immersive and organic. They also changed random encounters system, in BD and BS it was more of a typical system where some enemies are in some places and when you walk there its fighting time with additional ability to turn them off or to raise encouters rate in case you wanna grind. BD 2 has all monsters on the map so whether you choose to fight the monsters or not is entirely up to you. I do like how the monsters fears you, dont care about you or are ready to attack you depending on your current level, that gives them personality and that also allows the players to know their current range of strengh, that’s also more immersive I think but I can see why some would miss the old system after all there is something thrilling about random encounters, you are always on your guard in case some enemies might show up
now regarding the side quests BD 2, there are 2 types : regular side quest and fetch quests. The latter can be kinda annoying at times and repetitive but the former are pretty good characterization moments
music : REVO IS SOOO BACK ! As always the ost is fire but also the dedication of that man for composing unique enemy theme/asterisk themes. That being said i do wonder why the music has such a mediteranean vibe to it (not that I mind its just funny how so many ost sound like that like the victory fanfare Seth’s theme etc)
story and characters : I think the story was pretty good, I enjoy how BD 2 has many story elements that are call back to the previous entries like how Halcyonia’s arc is remniscient of Caldisla, notably with the jobs it gives you : Selene and Dag remind me of Holly and Bahars, but the game also gives you the White mage monk and equivalent to Knight job very early, like BD 1 did. Savalon reuse the « water plot » which in previous games was mainly used for side quests such as the Merchant and Thief vs Red mage side quest, but this time its a main plot and part of a twist i genuinely didnt saw comming despite the similarities with BD 1. In BD 1 the main big bad of Ancheim was the King of the country Khamer but that was written on his face. In BD 2 you are lead to think it is going to be Bernard which is basically Profiteur but Thief however turns out it’s Castor like so genuinely didnt saw this coming, although its still a « you have to defeat the ruler of the desert country ». Wiswald seems to be a reference to Al Khampis since its a country of scholarship. Rimedheal is so sick, country with fairies and dragons ? You spoil me game. Hologard is my least favorite region tho. The premise is pretty simple : Gloria has to find the 4 Crystals of elements to prevent the return of the night Nexus. But much like BD 1 it does this by the book story well, tho i will admit the real arc that got me the most invested was Rimedheal’s fairy hunt arc, that one moment where you fail to save Margaret was genuinely marking. My favorite part of BD 1 was how some side quest didnt end well and while its not really the case in Bd 2 it does involve tragic sideplot that make you invested. I also think that the game manages to achieve a good balance between a immersive world and compelling antagonist : BD 1 was extremely good at making you care about its NPC but the antagonist could feels a bit flat moments and while BS didnt necessarily made you had the one NPC you care about it offered a lot of compelling antagonist. BD 2 manage to achieve both : like Truff, i genuinely like Truff and when the rock fall on hum i was getting mad at the game like you better not kill him. Most of the antagonist are varied like you have Castor who has good intentions but goes about it the wrong way, Bernard whose a jerk capable of showing some kindness when he wants to, Lesdale who is a sort of Camus of Hologard. That being said the story isnt perfect : sometimes the game introduced plot point and seems to Forget about it like this engagement proposal made to Gloria what of it ? Not to mention that while I do enjoy a lot of side antagonist, the major one such as Adam and Edna are kinda of the weak est of the bunch. Adam is like Kaiser Obvlion but less fleshed out as for Edna, while its true that Airy and Anne also lacked in terms of characters, given how the game wants to emphasize the tragedy between the two sister, its a shame that we dont get more stuff about her… she just gets beaten once and then gets swallowed by the Nexus and we move on ? Pity.
regarding the Heroes of light, I like them they are charming and very entertaining. I think which real you prefer is going to depend on a lot of factors but I would place them second, right after the Warriors and just before Agnes’s Avengers. Adele and Elvis are funny, they are like an old married couple, i like how Elvis is not that good at his job but everyone can appreciate his positive and good hearted nature, Adele is a bit of hot head like Edea but a lot of stuff like her bad habits with her shoes and her desire to eat tons of food get recontextualized once you know about her true nature and this makes her observing how humans behave pretty interesting. Gloria made me think that she was how people in game believes Agnes is : Agnes appear cold and distant but thats because she is shy and lacks self confidence, Gloria on the other hand is confidant and determined but her arc is about learning to enjoy life and not let duty narrows her mind, which strikes a lot when you consider the first ending you get. As for Seth, while I would consider him the weakest of the four and the weakest of the 3 « player characters »(in the sense he fufills Yew and Tiz’s role even if Seth is more explicitely an avatar) I still think he is enjoyable, his pretty down to earth nature makes for great comedy when contrasted with Elvis and Adele and his relationship with Gloria is just cute. Also props to the game for being the first game to flesh out the final boss. Not shade to BD and BS but Ouroborous and Providence arent that fleshed out and at Times they can feel like « we needed to shove an ultimate boss who is a god », meanwhile Nexus has a very interesting story and her being a memory eater makes the remix of the final boss themes in typical Bravely fashion strikes even harder
The meta elements : Bravely is a franchise who imo is mostly defined by its boldness in breaking the 4th wall and incorporating these to its lore, and i will be honest what BD 2 did was soo unique and so mind blowing I would rather want to make a fully analytical post about that
so yeah pretty good game !

adding onto this: i am certain that season 3 is the last of hwlr other than supplemental media (ie books).
in the original announcement video, it was stated that hwlr had 22 episodes being released in 3 "drops" (later corrected to seasons). given netflix's track record, im pretty sure they won't renew it. remember kaos? or like any other tax write off project of the last decade? additionally, we saw production materials such as storyboards and 3d layouts very early into the show's release, like a few weeks after the first season dropped, so that suggests there isnt much to keep confidential. that or they have unusual nda setups. this is me guessing though, dont be surprised if im wrong.
in order for me to say anything for certain i need to start looking at usa patents/trademarks again, but given what we have rn, yeah we aren't getting a season four. im happy hwlr is given a planned arc at least, that's better than bf5's season 3/full revo disaster (ask me about THAT mess), acceleracers season two, etc etc
i do suspect that hwlr is going to tie into that weird hot wheels monster truck cartoon on yt, mega wrex speaks in one of the latest ads and its the same voice in those things. and in a panel at sdcc they mentioned that the roads from hot wheels city could go to several other places in the hot wheels universe, ie monster truck island
like tomm said above, id be interested in some long form specials, hwlr DESPERATELY needs longer episodes/segments for the kind of character development its trying to do.
Dear Tomm: Aren't you afraid that when season 3 comes out there won't be any more seasons?
Thanks for the ask!
I don't think "afraid" is the right word, but I don't think I'm too upset at the prospect that season 3 could be the last we get from Let's Race. So far, we don't have a confirmation or a denial of more episodes being in-production, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
The show's premise was admittedly not structured for it to be a long-running show- The setting and story line make it clear that after this season, the status quo they have created will be fully replaced. And while there are plenty of stories that could be told with this new status quo in place, whatever it may be, I think that getting a concrete conclusion would be satisfying to see. But, Let's Race has been very successful for both Netflix and Mattel, being consistently in the 'Top 10' of kids TV shows on the platform, so even if there's no new season teaser in the last episode of season 3, there's a chance they greenlight more seasons, or even a longer-form special. (Honestly? I think I'd prefer a few specials that tell longer form stories using the new status quo!)
The other factor in all of this is how the other Hot Wheels media in recent years have ended. Acceleracers was cancelled before it could see a conclusion, Battle Force 5's finale movie didn't air in the majority of the world, with its English dub being lost media, and Team Hot Wheels ended with no real conclusion or send-off to the world or characters. If Let's Race ends after season 3 with an ending that actually wraps things up, it would already be in a better place than most other Hot Wheels media. I'd rather a proper send-off than see the show get dragged out longer than it needs.
If we see another season announced, I will be very excited to see what's in store! But if this is the end, I won't be upset.

So, I was at ArcRevo yesterday, and that was awesome. And of course it got me in that Guilty Gear mood, so here's a quick fan art piece of one of my fave Guilty Gear characters, Baiken, in her Xrd design.
Also there’s an underwear version. Oops.

Revo/Evo-R has a lot of good Rezo characterization imo- one of my favorite bits is episode 9, which features Rezo as a major character in an episode that is mostly a comedic "filler" episode (the plot gets advanced a little but it's mostly just a breather episode between the Greywords Family Drama/Pokota Gets A Metaphorical Kick In The Nuts of episode 10, and the end of the Zuuma arc in episode 8.) Rezo otherwise mostly either stays out of the humor in Slayers or plays a very passive role in it (his role in the "koala" gag is to mostly serve as a serious contrast to the absurdity, and he's not present for gags like the toys in his lab) but in episode 9 he takes on an... almost Bugs Bunny or Road Runner-esque role, where the harder the heroes try to "catch" him, the more pain and humiliation they suffer. It's really interesting because he's still playing something of a lynchpin-ish role but in a different way than usual!
I've still not read the novels so when I watch the later seasons of Slayers I have the advantage of not going "This wasn't in the book..." but I do kind of agree with the criticisms a lot of people have where the main characters, esp. Lina and Gourry, tend to feel a little flatter in the later seasons as the writers instead introduced new secondary characters (chiefly, Filia and Pokota) who get major arcs/developmental story beats instead.
I don't personally mind this that much because 1) I like these new characters overall, and 2) Iiii can understand why the writers might have gone with this, because developing Lina and company and the relationships between them too much might upset the formula that keeps the show running, so it's easier to just introduce characters who can be discarded once their arcs are complete. So for me, I just personally find it easy to sit back and analyze the writing choices they did make and pick out the bits that I enjoy from the bits that I found dragged.
Anyway, to get back to Rezo- YEAH he's got a lot of little edges you can kind of hook onto, characterization-wise, and I honestly will never fully understand why more people don't have the urge to study him under a microscope.
That whole "both sincere and manipulative" thing is a particularly fun element. I've heard that the best liars 1) stick close to the truth wherever possible, and 2) try to believe their own lies, and Rezo? I think he's a very, very good liar. So of course he loses sight of the truth, of himself.
I have a soft spot for certain flavors of hypocrisy in characters and a failure to live up to ideals, because it's such a tragic, human kind of flaw to have.
(Though it's also something Slayers as a whole likes to mine for humor, the contrast between a person's Ideal Self, how they want to be seen, and who they actually are, as this essay points out.)
Not to comment on something you posted over a year ago, but based on my impressions of the SHC system I think Rezo would, like Zel, also be a Lion/Bird (albeit I am basing this partly on his Revo/Evo-R characterization as well as his Slayers Prime characterization.)
Ha! Long-term engagement is fantastic, so thank you for asking! Let me do A Take on this - but I don't remember Revo/Evo nearly as well, so if you've got something to add from that point, please do!

Rezo the Red Priest, one of the primary antagonists in Slayers, is an interesting case - the Lion Primary is certainly there! That single-minded devotion to curing his own eyesight has A LOT in common with how Zelgadis wants to cure his body. Actually, I think it's fairly safe to say that Zel probably copies his way of dealing from the one adult in his life. However, as far as Secondaries go... There are indeed points to be made for Bird. The sheer breadth of his knowledge - this is a man who goes on to master all the known types of magic to cure his ailment. But there's something to it that's more than tools. Rezo's... I want to say, expansive and systematic in a way few Bird secondaries ever reach, and he is also more nose-to-the-grindstone about it. Where Zelgadis picks up relevant tricks of the trade, Rezo just goes "well, if anything can fix this, it's magic." And he learns everything about magic. Not just what he thinks he needs to. He learns everything.
And the social side of how he works! Even though he doesn't really care for other people's blindness - at least at the point we see him in the first season of the anime - he acquires a reputation as one of the kindest mages, who goes on to heal other people in droves. It's this interesting combination - Rezo doesn't care about other people; but he also... Doesn't lie about his capabilities. He doesn't make up a Persona, the way Zel perhaps would have ("heartless swordsman!") Instead, he lets people project onto him and becomes what they need; he uses them for his own purposes but in a way that they are glad to be used.
He also doesn't keep people around for specific purposes. Bird secondaries have contacts; Rezo has minions and likely more than a few people who owe him their life and health. Even though he, too, has a lonely, ultimately selfish cause, he is enmeshed into Community to an extent Zelgadis would be terrified by.
And the way Zel gets through to him, when fighting Shabranigdo! "Do you really wish to destroy the world you wanted to see so much?" While I wrote earlier that Zel appeals to an Idealist morality here - and I think he does, Lion to Lion - I do think that this appeal also stirred the Badger, which is by its nature very global.
When Zel succeeds, Rezo doesn't bring down Shabranigdo from the inside. He holds him off. Endures. Just enough for Lina to do her thing.
This could be a Bird Secondary... But I think that's a Badger Secondary. In her description of the SHC archetypes, @wisteria-lodge calls the Lion/Badger "The Lynchpin", and notes how they are often the center of a wheel, and the center of events. Rezo would be an unusually non-group oriented Lynchpin - perhaps because we see him at a very desperate point - but the sheer amount of Things revolving around him certainly fits the bill. Also, the Lynchpin is a very common "Sleeper Villain" sorting, and what is Rezo if not that.
Tl;dr: the original Rezo, I think, is a Lion/Badger. Kopii-kun, on the other hand...

Sabo is apparently...the One Piece equivalent of Che Guevara now. So much for Ace 2.0. The proletariat has nothing to lose but their chains! Rebellion! Sexy blond brother is becoming a god in his own right! I love this, everything about it.
What I care about here though is just another example of this theme of image. Popularity. You know, digging into the middle part of “Wealth, Fame, Power.” Nice internal bookend with Aramaki’s words on influence at the start of the chapter. If nothing else, really feeling my read of that as a core theme is on point. Know I could kick off 1055 tomorrow but not gonna, I like to mull things over first. Hope you enjoy that long overdue Fashion week!
