just finish hunger games movie series & screaming at songbirds n snakes bc it not just a prequel just to be prequel just for money just to put series name into people mouth again. or separate story that happen in same universe with mild connections but can be see as separate. but prequel that add so much extra depth n meaning to original. read live comments as watch & many posts by others, all help explain things to me n here some thoughts after
only watched 1 & 2 when younger n didn’t understand A Thing n it amazing rewatching n see how much missed n see how it. all not that hidden
all parallels…. obvious one be katniss/lucy gray but also, peeta/lucy gray, katniss/S (snow’s “friend” from school forgot spelling), katniss’ prim/tigress’ snow, katniss/snow, how songbirds n snakes plural n now snow n lucy gray both at same time, etc etc
end of movie lucy gray escape n snow can’t find, n go back to capital, n then line from old/original/“present day” snow.
n then IMMEDIATELY song from lucy gray to snow
imagine it as something song to snow, ringing around his ears his head, during katniss era, end of his presidency during rebel revolution, from full start of it at beginning of mockingjay where still think can win, to slowly, clearly him losing.
really. really want re-boot of original 3 but through snow perspective because. truly want see his reaction to all lucy gray parallels. n parallels with younger him… “similar situation but produce vastly different result”. see katniss first volunteered, see her name. what went on mind when first saw her mockingjay pin. when katniss mention places at 12 he went to with lucy gray. when mockingjay became full rebel symbol. when katniss sing lucy gray song (n not knowing who it from but song survives).
n. if lucy gray able see it. her reaction to katniss & to snow’s reaction to katniss.
“Oh, you think I'm gone 'cause I left / But I'm in the trees, I'm in the breeze” n it so true n that song absolute perfect (always heard this line as “you think i’m gone because i *lived*” n honestly like that better)
don’t find it as “corruption arc” or story about how snow turn evil from good to evil because circumstances but more of. it in snow all along & he actively chose all choices that lead him to this, when given choice he chose self over others all along (like him help lucy gray in game doing that whole time because for himself for his benefit). n movie show him amateur school boy do that -> grow into him professionally doing that. as game master (think it implied at end he become one?). n as president
mockingjay (entire main series but especially out in open in mockingjay) not meant to be just another action based movie with hero leader in charge inspire all & defeat bad guys n how good will beat evil in end. n if go into it expect it be another one of those going be disappointed n find boring. katniss from very beginning been victim & child who pushed to be this “hero” be seen as one unwillingly & not realize it & not want it. didn’t enjoy some mockingjay film choices & it confusing & find pacing weird (find most films split into parts have weird pacing) but ultimate story think it way it meant to be
what typically would expect is after katniss go to 13, would be hail as hero by crowd put in leadership position & all respect from coin & coin willingly step down n say how been waiting reserving this for katniss all along hope she come to. n katniss willingly naturally get into that lead role n lead resistance n ultimately win n capture bad guy n now new era of totally completely different… except it none of that. subversion of trope absolute perfect
instead all that, instead at front of line of fire. katniss be front of camera.
n how even more real it is… wondering how much… (not much) would be different after “revolution” from snow to coin.
coin proposing new hunger games… all while pretending choose word so carefully so delicately. revolution in truest sense—revo-, around, 360 degree, back where started.
really think snow’s reaction at end of mockingjay well done. his conversation with katniss in plant place. him bursting out laughing when katniss shot coin instead of him.
n now after watch songbirds & snakes. double think so.

*WANTED CONNECTIONS MASTERLIST/WISHLIST ( OC EDITION ) ;
clover d. iselda ---
more marine interactions; canons, ocs, you name it. i think some primary ones i'm eager to see her interact with would be: garp, koby, sengoku, tashigi, and smoker. but, really just anyone!
also, she herself is a captain so i do wanna see some captain / subordinate ineractions? i don't know if there are many marine ocs that would be a subordinate to her, but i want to explore what she would be like as a superior.
vergo. oh god, i can't say it would end well for her and it wouldn't be purely antagonistic, but yeah. this one would be so interesting.
more antagonistic relationships in general. in any verse of hers. forced to work together, enemy coworkers, i don't trust you but i trust you with my life, any type of relationship that isn't very friendly or straight up enemies.
for her shipwright verse, i'd love to write with a franky. i think that she really admires him, not in a fan type way, in a --- you're a cool, solid guy way. (also any of the other shipwrights and cp agents that were undercover).
kazumi haru ---
anyone from the akazaya nine !
the ship he stowed away on when he ran away from home. could be pirate crew, mercenaries, marines, etc.!
any plots set during the wano arc
possibly baroque works plots!
boldly going to say i ship him and robin, so if there are any interested robin writers... please call me.... (obviously, we can test for chemistry and nothing is set in stone, no pressure < 33)
nina liu ---
any underworld type muses ! or crime family type muses from the op verse. they could be business partners, alliances (temporary / betrayal also v much interested ), rivals, straight up enemies.
more cipher pol interactions for her cp specific verse! field mission, having her do a fitting for your muse, blackmailing her, a fun little gossip sesh, what have you.
interactions with the vinsmoke family!
otorobashi akai ---
any strawhat interactions! most wanted; luffy because a little captain vs. captain action would be cool. akai is super curious about this little guy.
any golden era pirates like roger, rayleigh, whitebeard, oden, kaido, and their crews. of course, ocs of this era as well!!
the marine that's out to finally capture this menace. a little cat and mouse plot would be cool. even a cipher pol agent or a bounty hunter!
rival pirate crews, temporary allied pirate crews, betrayals! just pirate dynamics.... please.
quetzal d. luna ---
any strawhat interactions! she would adore them. she's just the type of funky land humans that she'd want to be friends with.
really, any interactions in general! nothing too serious for her just because i think i want to establish some fun dynamics for this muse first before doing anything very dramatic or serious.
zephyr ---
any nami's that are interested in an older brother! obviously, i'm down for the needed plotting for this. i don't have anything set in stone as to how they meet again or under what circumstances. just that they were separated during the war on their home island.
any revolutionary army muses! he was rescued by the revo army in my canon and then later on, seeks them out to join them.
mentor/mentee relationship with him as the mentee! open to any capacity.
fight threads! whether fighting against each other or together.
zhi hua ---
because she's on akai's crew, all that was mentioned for his applies to her too!
**NOTE: any original characters, such as ocs that are strawhats, are counted, of course when i say i want strawhat connections.
#this is all i could think of rn#it is a lot already but some Thoughts we could plot about#please do reach out if youre interested < 33#if you like this i will also take it as interest and#use it as a reference within plotting#but don't hesitate to ask forthright :'))#wishlist.#plots.#wanted connections.

Interview with Arc System Works (2023) - Part 1
Today, we are glad to communicate that Comunidad Arc System Works and Anime Fighting Game Community teamed up once again to bring a new exclusive interview to our followers! Since this interview has too many questions, we will publish it in two different parts so we can share it with all of you sooner. We hope that you enjoy Reading all of the new info that we have to share today, Let’s Rock!
Questions by AFGC:
1. Recently, various fighting games have added new controls and mechanics to not only make each game unique, but to also ease new players into the fighting game genre. However, some of these mechanics disinterest a few fighting game players who wish for more freeform gameplay. What is it like to strike that balance?
Guilty Gear -Strive- Producer: Ken Miyauchi
Our objective here has been to create a new form of "free style" play-feel experience for the players.
One major problem of a running series title is that players of previous titles are able to bring over their experiences directly without need of much adaptation, and that poses as a huge entry barrier for new players who want to join in the scene. With that, our ideal situation would be to create a new, challenging and fair environment for both new and old players, while also keeping the freedom of expression.
We retain the view of simply making the game "simple" or "toned down" would generally make the fighting game lose its appeal over other genres.
2. This year for Arc System Works has been a huge boon for rollback netcode, with the implementation of it being added to Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and with it releasing soon for Guilty Gear Xrd and Dragon Ball FighterZ. How was the process to add rollback to all these games?
Guilty Gear -Strive- Producer: Ken Miyauchi
We cannot speak on behalf of non-Arc System Works published titles, but at least for in-house titles, the process varies between each project and there are no 2 same projects. Ultimately, it is the positive feedback from players which are definitely motivating us to support rollback netcode, especially after the implementation on Guilty Gear -Strive-.
3. For the past two years Arc System Works has been developing the Arc World Tour and Arc Revo. How has it been to develop these tours for an international audience?
Global Marketing Dept. User Community Team Manager: Riku Ozawa
For the past couple of years it has been a tremendously challenging period for events due to COVID-19. We had to factor in the risk of events needing to stop or cancel abruptly, and that greatly hinders our efforts to push for bigger promotions. The other common alternative of doing online events also has its drawback; more often than not, we find it difficult to convey the passion of the competitors to the online audience via streaming.
4. One of the biggest challenges of the Arc World Tour is trying to get a representation of Arc System Work Communities from around the world. In particular, South America and Africa have always asked for a place on the world stage. Is this something we can see going into future tours?
Global Marketing Dept. User Community Team Manager: Riku Ozawa
Ideally we do wish to have a grand event one day where we can include as many countries as possible, like the World Cup that just ended not too long ago. Moving forward we will be incorporating more regions into the AWT wherever possible.
5. Previous in 2020, there was a going to be a new type of event during the Arc World Tour being the daredevil events, events where people from all over the world can submit their events to be added to the circuit. However, due to the pandemic this and the entire tour had to be changed. Given how offline events are returning is there any hope for daredevil events to return?
Global Marketing Dept. User Community Team Manager: Riku Ozawa
We observed that there are many community-driven tournaments out there despite being a 18-months old game, and we are keen to revive the daredevil campaign too. Stay tuned for more details.
6. Final question about the tours, in the past we had games such as Blazblue Central Fiction, Guilty Gear Xrd, and Granblue Fantasy Versus all featured on the world tour stage. Is there any chance for these or other previous Arc System Work titles to be included in the tours in the future?
Global Marketing Dept. User Community Team Manager: Riku Ozawa
It is hard for us to incorporate games with less active users into the tour, but for future Arc-organized tournaments such as ARCREVO, perhaps we can have it in the form of a side tournament, where fans can gather and compete together.
7. To many, Guilty Gear Strive, is one of the best rollback fighting games to date. With the inclusion of that and crossplay coming to the game, can we expect that level of treatment to come to all future ASW games?
Guilty Gear -Strive- Producer: Ken Miyauchi
We hope to maintain (if not better) the quality of the rollback netcode implementation for future ASW fighting games. However, it is much more difficult to say for crossplay, as it heavily depends on the nature and the size of the game.
At the very least, as the producer of GGST, I can safely say if the new project is to be on the same level as "Guilty Gear", then I would certainly like to give it the equal treatment as well.
8. As much as we know about Arc System Works, the fighting game company, we know a bit about Arc System Works, the publishing company, can you tell us what is in the works outside the world of Fighting Games?
Global Marketing Dept. Biz Dev / Producer: Zack Tan
We publish many other games besides just fighting games, such as "River City" series (or alternatively known as either "Renegade" or "Kunio-kun"), the "Double Dragon" series and more. Recently we have also released hit-titles "River City Girls" "River City Saga: Three Kingdoms" as well.
Additionally, we have partnered up with other companies to publish several titles locally as a regional project. Some examples include "Aragami 2", "Kitaria Fables", "Fallen Legion" series and many more. The most recent one we have here is "RWBY: Arrowfell", thanks to the great guys over at Rooster Teeth and WayForward for making it possible.
As a development studio, we also have some smaller scale projects around. Our latest game, albeit limited to PS4/5 and Japan only, the "Two-Jong Cell!!", a game where the player plays mahjong with cute anime girls or against online players, with a twist of special skills. We also have "Ground Divers" released on Nintendo Switch within the year too.
CASW’s note: As a fan of Resonance of Fate and Ys as well, I will add that Arc System Works also published the Asian version for Resonance of Fate 4k/HD Edition and Ys Origin in the past (we can find that version in webs like Play Asia). Kitaria Fables, for example, it’s a PQube title that I had the pleasure to translate into Spanish so I wanted to publicy show my hapyness for that chance and seeing that ASW published it in another region is incredible.
9. One of the biggest challenges of this year was trying to qualify for the Arc World Tour finals you would have to win one of the few qualifiers spots. Is there any consideration for a longer tour with more spots for players to qualify?
Global Marketing Dept. User Community Team Manager: Riku Ozawa
For this year's format, we had hoped to achieve a more exciting feel and raise the tension for each of the qualifier tournaments, where we have limited slots. However, we came to realise that there are many more players around the world with great potential than we had initially expected, over the course of the current tour. For future qualifying tournaments, we do hope to expand the scale.
Note: This questions have been asked last year (11/27/2022), that means that some of them might be outdated.
¡We will publish Part 2 during next week!

So fun fact: I read Rezo's fanwiki page before I properly watched the series for the first time, and as a result was thoroughly spoiled on a lot of things. And there's one particular sentence that piqued my curiosity, especially after I finished the first season.
"He [Rezo] also transferred the prince of Taforashia and his good friend Duclis' souls to their current beast forms..."
'Huh,' I thought to myself, 'So Rezo's friends with some guy called Duclis? Doesn't seem to be a big plot point since the various wiki pages don't talk about it much outside of this brief mention, but still neat, especially considering how few relationships Rezo seems to have in the show.'
So I was looking forward to REVO/EVO-R for a while and seeing a potential glimpse into Rezo having a social life of some sort and whatever further insight that might give me into his character.
And then Duclis's arc came and went in Revolution and nobody ever mentioned if Duclis and Rezo ever so much as knew each other before the Durum disease thing happened and I was 'Huh. Maybe it'll come up later, when we get to jar!Rezo.'
And then there was still no mention of Rezo and Duclis being friends and the series ended and I
Brilliant and insightful master of reading comprehension that I am
Concluded 'Damn, I can't believe someone went and edited their weird headcanon into Rezo's fanwiki page. That's annoying.'
And it took me like several months to put together what was actually meant.
(Duclis is a good friend of the prince of Taforashia. Not Rezo. Rezo has no friends.)

okay now that i'm done revo season 1 let's have a little post-mortem
1. Charlie and Miles are the best dynamic by a MILE and i maintain that the early episodes of them trekking through the woods and shattering each other's hearts was the best era
2. Kashmir is the best individual episode. no contest. Children of Men second place. the last three quarters of Clue takes a distant third.
3. you could have replaced Danny with a reasonably clever ferret and it wouldn't have changed a whole hell of a lot about his arc
4. Nora deserved better in like a million fucking ways. angy angy angy.
5. Jason Neville has the moral backbone of a chocolate eclair
6. sorry to what feels like the 90% of the fandom that hates Rachel, but the last two eps improved my opinion of her immensely. she's nuts 😍
7. please don't grab your torches and pitchforks, but uhh...is s2 where Bass really shines? cause there’s glimpses of it when he’s with Miles, but currently the main emotion i feel towards him is just a mix of pity and disgust. and by pity i mean he’s pitiful. pathetic. nothing particularly warm and fuzzy there lol
8. I still miss Drexel, that crazy sonuvabitch. best one-off villian. Todd Stashwick my beloved scenery-chewer
9. can’t fucking believe Charlie’s brand literally never came up. i wanted that moment between her and Miles so bad you have no idea
10. considering i said the american nationalism shit was one of my least favourite parts of the show, based on the last moments of 1x20 i am Not Looking Forward To Season Two
10a. very fucking funny that Randall Flynn’s last line was “i am a patriot.” sir, you are Colm Feore. you are absurdly fucking canadian. i should know, i’ve seen you on stage.
#watch tag: revolution#i powered through a bunch of episodes today so i have a LOT of gifsets to make#so stuff for the last few will roll out over the next few days#but Fire Country takes priority tomorrow so there'll be that interruption#and i'm back at work on monday so less giffing time but i have a list and i will get through it!#and then eventually i'll acquire and start season two#but all in good time :)

2, 3, 13 & 23 for the fandom year in review ♥
Favorite ships this year Galadriel/Sauron from TROP, Thony/Arman from The Cleaning Lady, Beth/Rip from Yellowstone
Favorite TV shows to watch this year The Cleaning Lady, Yellowstone, TROP
Favorite villain of the year Well, that's either easy or hard to pick, depending if you count our completely unsuspecting-but-absolutely-very-sus-Halbrand-but-oops-actually-Sauron a villain??? I know, I know, Sauron=evil incarnate, except, well' nothing is evil from the beginning' and TROP delivered on this tenfold.
If not, then Robert Kamdar (or Kemdar? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) from The Cleaning Lady. Hats off to the writers for the story arc and the actor for pulling it off. He really was a villain-villain that I hated but loved to hate.
The most missed of your old fandoms I'm sure you already know the answer; best fandom was and remains best. I've made friends in other fandoms since and have had occasional good fandom chats with them but there really hasn't been anything like Revo fandom.
IDK if it was that fandom culture shifted after 2014/15/16 or our little show just drew all the right people together. And I'm so grateful for all of you, because the more I'm healing the more I'm realising in how bad places I was in those years and I honestly think that without all of you thousands of miles and even continents away, I wouldn't be here. But even if it was just a like on a post, it told me that someone saw my suffering and cared. And it made all the difference.
Uh, now I've gotten on a sentimental tangent. ❤️ to all of you!
Oh, but maybe it doesn't really count as missed, because most of us are here following each other despite more or less branching out into different fandoms, lol. I guess miss in terms of fandom talk, but as people I feel like we're still friends even if we interact more infrequently. *sends smooches all around* :D

Revo/Evo-R has a lot of good Rezo characterization imo- one of my favorite bits is episode 9, which features Rezo as a major character in an episode that is mostly a comedic "filler" episode (the plot gets advanced a little but it's mostly just a breather episode between the Greywords Family Drama/Pokota Gets A Metaphorical Kick In The Nuts of episode 10, and the end of the Zuuma arc in episode 8.) Rezo otherwise mostly either stays out of the humor in Slayers or plays a very passive role in it (his role in the "koala" gag is to mostly serve as a serious contrast to the absurdity, and he's not present for gags like the toys in his lab) but in episode 9 he takes on an... almost Bugs Bunny or Road Runner-esque role, where the harder the heroes try to "catch" him, the more pain and humiliation they suffer. It's really interesting because he's still playing something of a lynchpin-ish role but in a different way than usual!
I've still not read the novels so when I watch the later seasons of Slayers I have the advantage of not going "This wasn't in the book..." but I do kind of agree with the criticisms a lot of people have where the main characters, esp. Lina and Gourry, tend to feel a little flatter in the later seasons as the writers instead introduced new secondary characters (chiefly, Filia and Pokota) who get major arcs/developmental story beats instead.
I don't personally mind this that much because 1) I like these new characters overall, and 2) Iiii can understand why the writers might have gone with this, because developing Lina and company and the relationships between them too much might upset the formula that keeps the show running, so it's easier to just introduce characters who can be discarded once their arcs are complete. So for me, I just personally find it easy to sit back and analyze the writing choices they did make and pick out the bits that I enjoy from the bits that I found dragged.
Anyway, to get back to Rezo- YEAH he's got a lot of little edges you can kind of hook onto, characterization-wise, and I honestly will never fully understand why more people don't have the urge to study him under a microscope.
That whole "both sincere and manipulative" thing is a particularly fun element. I've heard that the best liars 1) stick close to the truth wherever possible, and 2) try to believe their own lies, and Rezo? I think he's a very, very good liar. So of course he loses sight of the truth, of himself.
I have a soft spot for certain flavors of hypocrisy in characters and a failure to live up to ideals, because it's such a tragic, human kind of flaw to have.
(Though it's also something Slayers as a whole likes to mine for humor, the contrast between a person's Ideal Self, how they want to be seen, and who they actually are, as this essay points out.)
Not to comment on something you posted over a year ago, but based on my impressions of the SHC system I think Rezo would, like Zel, also be a Lion/Bird (albeit I am basing this partly on his Revo/Evo-R characterization as well as his Slayers Prime characterization.)
Ha! Long-term engagement is fantastic, so thank you for asking! Let me do A Take on this - but I don't remember Revo/Evo nearly as well, so if you've got something to add from that point, please do!
Rezo the Red Priest, one of the primary antagonists in Slayers, is an interesting case - the Lion Primary is certainly there! That single-minded devotion to curing his own eyesight has A LOT in common with how Zelgadis wants to cure his body. Actually, I think it's fairly safe to say that Zel probably copies his way of dealing from the one adult in his life. However, as far as Secondaries go... There are indeed points to be made for Bird. The sheer breadth of his knowledge - this is a man who goes on to master all the known types of magic to cure his ailment. But there's something to it that's more than tools. Rezo's... I want to say, expansive and systematic in a way few Bird secondaries ever reach, and he is also more nose-to-the-grindstone about it. Where Zelgadis picks up relevant tricks of the trade, Rezo just goes "well, if anything can fix this, it's magic." And he learns everything about magic. Not just what he thinks he needs to. He learns everything.
And the social side of how he works! Even though he doesn't really care for other people's blindness - at least at the point we see him in the first season of the anime - he acquires a reputation as one of the kindest mages, who goes on to heal other people in droves. It's this interesting combination - Rezo doesn't care about other people; but he also... Doesn't lie about his capabilities. He doesn't make up a Persona, the way Zel perhaps would have ("heartless swordsman!") Instead, he lets people project onto him and becomes what they need; he uses them for his own purposes but in a way that they are glad to be used.
He also doesn't keep people around for specific purposes. Bird secondaries have contacts; Rezo has minions and likely more than a few people who owe him their life and health. Even though he, too, has a lonely, ultimately selfish cause, he is enmeshed into Community to an extent Zelgadis would be terrified by.
And the way Zel gets through to him, when fighting Shabranigdo! "Do you really wish to destroy the world you wanted to see so much?" While I wrote earlier that Zel appeals to an Idealist morality here - and I think he does, Lion to Lion - I do think that this appeal also stirred the Badger, which is by its nature very global.
When Zel succeeds, Rezo doesn't bring down Shabranigdo from the inside. He holds him off. Endures. Just enough for Lina to do her thing.
This could be a Bird Secondary... But I think that's a Badger Secondary. In her description of the SHC archetypes, @wisteria-lodge calls the Lion/Badger "The Lynchpin", and notes how they are often the center of a wheel, and the center of events. Rezo would be an unusually non-group oriented Lynchpin - perhaps because we see him at a very desperate point - but the sheer amount of Things revolving around him certainly fits the bill. Also, the Lynchpin is a very common "Sleeper Villain" sorting, and what is Rezo if not that.
Tl;dr: the original Rezo, I think, is a Lion/Badger. Kopii-kun, on the other hand...

So, I was at ArcRevo yesterday, and that was awesome. And of course it got me in that Guilty Gear mood, so here's a quick fan art piece of one of my fave Guilty Gear characters, Baiken, in her Xrd design.
Also there’s an underwear version. Oops.

Guilty Gear -Strive- Producer: Ken Miyauchi
