Sanctuaries
Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life.

In Another World by johnshlau Via Flickr: Arashiyama 嵐山 is the second-most important sightseeing district in Kyoto. It’s filled with temples and shrines, but the star attraction is the famed Arashiyama Bamboo Grove 竹林の道. We came really early and were lucky to avoid the crowds. Standing amid these soaring stalks of bamboo is like being in another world. Taken at the Bamboo Grove, Arashiyama, Kyoto, Japan

Happy World Bamboo Day!
Bamboos are a diverse group of mostly evergreen perennial flowering plants. You might think they are trees since they grow very tall. But they are actually grass, and giant bamboos are the largest members of the grass family.
Bamboos are the fastest growing land plant in the world - some species can grow about one inch every 40 minutes.
The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto, Japan is a very popular tourist spot. These days, you probably will not get alone moment in the bamboo grove, as pictured in this hand-colored lantern slide.

My trip to Japan
I've recently got back from a 12 day trip to Japan. I was hoping to spot at least one Kitaro during my stay and boy, did Japan deliver!

In a manga store in Harajuku. Medama Oyaji bathing in the rice bowl was mad expensive as you can see. What are you, made of gold? Apparently yes! The retro figures were super cute too.

Mandarake in Shibuya in a dope collage of both Shigeru Mizuki and Osamu Tezuka characters. There's also my man, Black Jack.

Honourable mention for a cute handmade Amabie in a souvenir store in Arashiyama, which is known for the bamboo grove.

it’s the best day of the year! today is the birthday of the poetry of my life, my dear papa cesar. initially i wanted to go on a full day trip to osaka and kobe, but i decided to just go on a nice long walk to celebrate. i feel like i will feel my father’s day deeper and slower that way.
i visited the Daihikaku Senkōji Temple in Arashiyama. the bridge and the bamboo grove are always packed with tourists, but the area further into the river was so peaceful and quiet.
the hike was quite a breather, both in the sense that i was out or breath and it was tranquil. but it’s a pretty easy climb and did not make me feel scared, except for the snake i saw amid the stairs >.<
the temple was empty when i reached it, and it was absolutely beautiful. it felt like. we could write free notes in the notebook they provided, so i wrote a little letter for my papa cesar.
i will definitely go back again. it truly felt like spirited away (just like all the mountain trails here lol)
the skies, mountains, the rivers, the flowers, and the birds were all singing a birthday song to my papa 🤍

I will not reach you. 君には届かない。Ep 4
I was thinking about subtitles the entire first half of the episode so wasn't really liveblogging, but. These two. I love them. I love the pacing of this show. I really, really like the classmates, especially Hosaka, obnoxious as he's being.
Murasen is such a high school teacher. Dajare and all.
Hosaka is NOT letting this go and I love that for him, for me, and (ultimately, though I don't think he appreciates it yet) for Yamato (and Kakeru).
Arashiyama? EXCELLENT choice, Yamato's clearly a man of taste. When I lived in Kyoto I'd sometimes just bike out to have a walk in the bamboo grove, or to have sweets at one of the cafés, or just stand on Togetsukyo and look out over the water.
Yamato's smile when Kakeru offered!! I am so tempted to translate 'yakusoku da yo' with 'it's a date', but. aaah.
KYOTO oh I miss it (in case that wasn't clear from the rant above)
My kneejerk reaction just now was "oh NO not the girls", which isn't really fair to them – Kayo deserves to see her bf, and Akane is sweet.
"i need the bathroom" classic Yamato
these two, is2g
calling him out to see the stars with you, holy shit, you've got it just as bad as Yamato, Kakeru
the dad lives!!! aah I'm really happy to hear that somehow
awww, they really do go way back
oh Yamato, you're really trying
friends to lovers best dynamic forever, I said what I said
ONSENNNN
ONSENNNNNN
ahahaha Kakeru's SO in his head (but then again, who knows what goes down in the bathroom with teenagers – I legit got groped in the chest by a same-gender classmate during bath time on my own school trip, so, uh, maybe not unreasonable to assume things might get weird)
poor Kakeru, being used as a mule
Yamato is acting 'normal' because he's used to being in love with you, kiddo
HOSAKA
I love Hosaka so much
I kind of wonder about Hosaka's backstory now, with him all insightful
oh that shirt on Kakeru! I want that shirt!
ahaha CLASSIC
aaah, tatami. I'm almost sad my own class trip was to Hokkaido so we stayed at a regular hotel :'D but only almost
I am FOAMING AT THE MOUTH god these two, these TWO
the pacing of this show is so good!
In case you couldn't tell, I'm thoroughly in love with this show. Is it special? maybe not. but like many of my favourites (*cough* Bad Buddy *cough*) it takes an ordinary, run-of-the-mill story and tells it in a really lovely way.
Also apparently the Japanese shorthand for this show is kiminai, so I'll be rebranding in my head and tags, sigh
