This week I was distraught - genuinely fkn mortified - to discover that my lovely other half, my beloved Kitty the cat-human, doesn't... I mean truly *does not*... Think that bark spiders are friggin adorable.

I weep, OMFGs.

Like. I know I should just be happy that they've come to a point where they evict spiders with a cup & card, instead of squishing them.

But bark spiders.

I mean.

Bark spiders are so cool! They look like bark, FFS.

Look at these bark spiders. Behold them! These fancy spood ladies. The twiggy lookin butts. Their smol faces. Glorious weirdos, how could you be mean to a tiny mush like that? The females only get to a couple of centimetres apparently, males are much smaller. They're soo smol, it's not like they're gonna hurt you Kitty? I mean... Look how anxious they look hugging their twigs?? (Gestures at the world) I feel you, little buddies.

I know they're not the most elegant spoods in webs or wombling around, but they are good cryptic critters, pls be nice to them.

I don't really know what's going on here. A big mite (4mm!) feeding(?) on a crane fly(?) larva.

There is a kind of mite - Calyptostoma - that specifically parasitises crane flies: the young mites cling to adult crane flies while the adult mites feed on crane fly larvae - like this?

I haven't found much information on them yet, though.

i post mostly original content on this blog but I just learned about a creature I need to immediately spread awareness of.

Its a type of harvestman from New Zealand called Acropsopilio. It has similar relatives elsewhere in the world (such as Caddo sp. from N.A) but they don’t quite rival its incredible form

i promise nothing could prepare you for what this beast looks like:

here is my recent spider obsession, the most adorable ORAMGE 🍊 lovely girl posted on inaturalist

she is an apache jumping spider (phidippus apacheanus), thought most are not this strikingly orange. i am hoping to get one of these lovely spoods soon so stay tuned :))) 🕷️ 🐜

I have no clue how to send this in a coherent way but I hope so badly miss mousey knows a grasshopper mouse, AKA the werewolf mouse. I just think one of her babies learning how to SCREEEEEE howl at the moon would be so fun.

I imagined Mariella (mom) have a grasshopper mouse cousin who's some kind of sustenance hunter wild woman and obviously a great babysitter.
