To practice as a nurse or midwife in Ireland, you must be registered with the NMBI. The registration process ensures that all practitioners meet the standards necessary for safe and effective care

Applicant Categories

NMBI categorizes applicants into three groups:

G1(DirectiveApplicants): For EU automatic recognition pathway applicants. These applications undergo an administrative assessment only.

G2(DirectiveApplicants): For general systems pathway applicants, involving both administrative and qualification assessments.

G3 (Non-Directive Applicants): For applicants outside the EU Directive, such as overseas nurses. These applications undergo both administrative and qualification assessments.

Requirements for Registration

To work as a nurse in Ireland, you must meet the following criteria:

Qualification: GNM / B.Sc. / Post B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Nursing

WorkExperience: At least 1 year of experience within the last 5 years

EnglishLanguageProficiency:

OET: B in 3 modules and C+ in one module

IELTS: 7 in 3 modules and 6.5 in one module

Documentation Needed

Proof of identity (valid passport)

Current nursing registration certificate

Current professional status certificate

Formal qualifications or diploma in nursing

Proof of English language proficiency (IELTS or OET)

Steps to Become a Nurse in Ireland
