Liner Notes (January 11th, 2025)
Welcome to the first newsletter of 2025. This week’s supporter Q&A post can be found here. If you’d like this newsletter delivered to your inbox each week (it’s free and available to everyone), you can sign up here. A Few Things * We launched our Best of 2024 feature this week, and I’m super happy with how it turned out. It highlights the diversity of musical tastes across our contributors, and I love that it doesn’t look like all the other music publications’ end-of-the-year lists. If you haven’t checked it out yet, there is some excellent stuff on there. * My list (that also goes through movies, TV shows, and books I enjoyed in 2024) is also posted on my blog. I really enjoyed 2024 as a music year, and it’s one with quite a few albums that that will stay in permanent rotation. * I am always on the lookout for cool new iPhone or desktop wallpapers, and I recently came across this website. It’s one of the better collections online I’ve found for nerdy (Star Wars, superhero) wallpapers. I grabbed quite a few for my rotating collection. * Since this is is the first newsletter of the new year, I hope everyone had a nice holiday season. Ours was relatively calm. Lots of family time, and it was nice to get to experience the first holidays in our new home. * Hannah got me (along with new band hoodies and records) a hot air popcorn maker this year, and I’m a big fan. This, plus some coconut oil and sea salt, has made the best homemade popcorn I’ve ever had—big shoutout to whoever recommended the coconut oil to me. I’m sorry I forgot who it was, but it’s a real game-changer for home-popped popcorn. * I updated My Archive to link to new pages that automatically update each week with my favorite albums, movies, and TV shows. This was a holiday week coding project that I had on my list to want to do for a while. My next “for fun” project has gotten, admittedly, a little out of hand. What started as wanting to build a companion app for my Now Playing device to make it respond immediately to changes in songs has now become a full-on Mac app that also scrobbles to Last.fm. It’s my first attempt at Mac programming, and it’s been a fun little evening project I’ve been experimenting with. I want something that can work with my Now Playing device, but I also want something that I have more control over for how it scrobbles and interacts with Last.fm. Neptunes is great, but it’s also overkill for what I need and doesn’t scrobble how I prefer. (I like how Marvis queues a track and then scrobbles and how it handles paused tracks, I’ve found far fewer duplicates with Marvis than with Neptunes, so I want to mimic that.) I also want to build in a few features I’ve wanted for myself: the ability to immediately scrobble a track and skip to the next one, better sync loved/favorited tracks between Last.fm and Apple Music, and the big one, the ability to keep a local backup of scrobbled/played tracks in text files. I love Last.fm, but I’m also terrified of it one day going away. I want to have a way to recreate my Last.fm history if I need it, and I want to be prepared with something that can keep my music listening history going forward as well. It’s ridiculously overkill. But, it’s a fun project to work on and it lets me play with some programming muscles that I don’t get to stretch much these days. And I’ve never actually built an app before. So that’s fun to learn too. I have no idea if it will ever get to a place where I’ll share this, but for myself, I’m having a blast learning. In Case You Missed It * Chorus. fm’s Top 30 Albums of 2024 * Jason Tate’s Top Albums of 2024 * Craig Manning’s Top Albums of 2024 * Adam Grundy’s Top Albums of 2024 * Mark O’Connell Announces Departure From Taking Back Sunday * Interpunk Shuts Down * Mayday Parade Announce New Album * Tom DeLonge Teases Spring Shows * Albums in Stores – Jan 10th, 2025 Music Thoughts * One of my favorite parts of publishing our end-of-the-year feature is diving into… https://chorus.fm/features/articles/liner-notes-january-11th-2025/

attack on titan social media headcanons

how i think the 104th would use social media in a modern!au (includes eren, mikasa, armin, jean, marco, sasha, connie, historia, ymir, bertholdt, reiner & annie) - mac
masterlist
eren jaeger:
most used app: snapchat
still does streaks on snapchat - over 600 day streak with jean and to keep it going they just send insults to each other.
has the most cracked screen, it’s literally hanging together but he refuses to get a new screen until it no longer works.
would leave the house with 14% battery (this makes me incredibly nervous but eren knows he’ll be able to charm his way into someone giving him their charger.)
mikasa ackerman:
most used app: instagram or tumblr
mikasa should be hired by the fbi or something - give her a name and she will find all their social media pages.
i’m not sure what it would be but she’s definitely part of a fandom of a tv series or music group which is why she spends so much time on tumblr.
unlike eren, she actually has a case to prevent her screen from smashing - it would probably be one of those clear ones with flowers on the back, and she’d put in a polaroid picture of her and her friends in the back of it.
armin arlert:
most used app: youtube
he hasn’t got many posts on his instagram but a few of some pretty landscapes and a couple of group photos of him and his friends. his profile picture is of him, eren & mikasa.
literally could spend all day on wikipedia. he goes to google something but then falls down a rabbit hole.
vsauce? asap science? random reddit videos? sign armin tf up.
jean kirstein:
most used app: twitter or spotify
does gaming live-streams with eren. people watch not to see gameplay but to see the entertainment that is jean and eren’s competitive arguing (they play a lot of call of duty, mario kart, but also minecraft when they’re actually on good terms with each other)
gets into heated arguments with people on twitter. they go on forever because jean likes to have the last word/tweet.
you know those people that always have their headphones in? jean is that kind of person. he’d be sneakily listening to music during class (let’s be real he’s definitely got airpods.)
marco bodt:
most used app: instagram (& whatsapp because he’s in a lot of group chats)
the best hype man. comments on all of his friends selfies telling them how gorgeous they look.
he sends motivational quotes and wholesome memes to all of his friends which are always appreciated.
marco’s the one to put together group chats and ensure that arguments in them are smoothly resolved (eren and jean are usually the culprits.)
sasha braus:
most used app: tiktok
definitely makes very chaotic tiktoks/tweets that just blow up and end up on popular pages that repost to instagram.
her and connie would spam group chats with memes and selfies with stupid filters on. sometimes they’ll just target one person in particular (always jean) and they end up getting kicked or blocked.
her instagram captions tend to be random quotes and inside jokes from her friends (mainly connie) much to the confusion of everyone else.
connie springer:
most used app: instagram
has a private account on instagram just to post embarrassing pictures of his friends.
goes into conspiracy theory facebook groups just to troll the people in them.
out of everyone, the most likely to have games on his phone. when he’s bored in the car or during class he’ll just start playing geometry dash or temple run.
historia reiss:
most used app: tiktok
you know she’s got a tiktok with 100k followers. tiktok dance trends, makeup tutorials, look books - she does it all.
loves pinterest so much. gets a lot of outfit/home decor ideas from it - it’s likely that there’s a ton of photos of her on pinterest as outfit inspiration.
types !! like !! this !! and uses these emojis: ✨🌸💖🥰 way too much.
ymir:
most used app: facetime
half the time she’s on her phone is going to spent spent facetiming historia i can’t lie.
i personally hc that ymir in a modern!au would play either the bass or drums and i can just see historia begging to post a tiktok of her playing that then blows up - ymir would be so nonchalant about it but inside she’s dying of excitement.
probably has every group chat she’s in on mute - occasionally will lurk to see what’s going on, would only ever join in the conversation if drama was going down in which she’d send a gif of someone eating popcorn.
bertholdt hoover:
most used app: youtube or discord
likes to watch those reddit story time videos. would spend a good few hours watching them without even realising what the time is.
has 0 posts on instagram. cannot do any insta stalking of him (unless you looked through his tagged photos and find the ONE selfie he ever took with reiner.)
does a lot of gaming and uses discord to talk to his gamer friends (probably plays more story based/quest games compared to eren and jean - maybe like the last of us & skyrim!!)
reiner braun:
most used app: instagram
at least two shirtless pictures of him on his instagram (and way more if you’re on his private snapchat story - he likes to make it known that he’s at the gym. )
uses ‘lmao’ so much to the point he says it out loud not just over text
for some reason these emojis (👍👏👋💪) make me think of reiner ?? instead of replying ‘okay’ or ‘bye’ you just get ‘👍👍’ or ‘👋👋’
annie leonhardt:
most used app: spotify
follows so many cat accounts, she’s considering making her own to post pictures of her cat.
out of everyone, likely to be the person who uses social media/her phone the least, it probably overwhelms her quite a bit so unless she’s messaging someone (or looking at cats,) it’s unlikely to see annie on her phone.
does listen to a lot of music on spotify though - she’s got a study playlist, a playlist for when she’s at the gym, songs to listen when she’s just chilling at home - her spotify wrapped every year is pretty impressive.
BONUS:
spotify or apple music?
spotify: jean, mikasa, bertholdt, ymir, reiner, annie, sasha, historia
apple music: eren, armin, marco, connie
who sends memes into group chats?
eren, jean, sasha, connie, reiner
how long do they take to reply to messages?
replies instantly: marco, historia, sasha, connie, reiner
leaves you unopened for 3 days but then replies: eren, jean, mikasa, armin, bertholdt
leaves you on read: ymir, annie
who has the highest screen time?
eren, historia, sasha

Perhaps some Moreid headcanons on what Morgan’s like with his pretty boy when they’re in private (or like cute stolen moments between hectic cases)? We don’t see much domestic Morgan and I’m especially interested in your person ideas on what he’d be like just alone at home with Reid. 👐💗💖💝💞💕👐 loveyou
okay THIS got away from me I am so sorry
- Before the team actually knows they’re together, not much about their working relationship changes. If anything, Morgan starts to mess with him more; practical jokes and an ever-increasing use of “Pretty Boy” and other nicknames. ONE TIME THOUGH, Morgan slips up between calling Garcia “Baby Girl” and calling Reid “Pretty Boy” and calls him “Baby Boy” in public. Spencer is unable to speak for 4 minutes and 17 seconds afterward, which is unfortunate, because he was in the middle of a conversation with JJ.
- They have weekly movie nights, trading off between each other’s apartments and arguing over what movies to watch. Spencer is a die-hard documentaries and sci-fi person (seriously...even Derek is pretty sure he can quote full scenes from Star Trek IV by now...), while Morgan prefers action movies or sometimes even rom-coms. As their relationship progresses, they’re able to compromise on watching mostly comedies and rom-coms. Derek has an ever growing scoreboard in the notes app on his phone that details their throwing-popcorn-at-each-other-and-catching-it-midair competitions. He’s definitely winning, but Reid doesn’t need to know that.
- I have SO MANY thoughts about Spencer and the huge learning curve he experiences throughout his relationship with Derek, but I’d really like to focus on physical touch for a second. That’s absolutely one of Morgan’s love languages, so it’s a little bit of a source of tension for Spencer. Gradually, he’s able to feel comfortable being held or hugged, but Morgan is almost always careful to make sure it’s okay before doing so. As Reid gets more comfortable with physical affection though.... oh man is he touch-starved. He’ll lay his head in Morgan’s lap on the couch while the older man is reading, and will bat at the book like an annoyed cat until his boyf either puts the book away or starts playing with his hair with a free hand. Spencer is now physically unable to watch a movie unless he’s curled up into Derek’s side on the couch and they’re sharing a blanket.
- Spencer is a bad cook. Like, subsists mostly on kraft mac ‘n cheese and once burned water. Morgan, on the other hand, is a really good cook, and slowly starts inviting Spencer to help make dinner. (It might also be an excuse for him to wrap his arms around Spencer while he stands at the stove to “help him stir,” but that’s only part of it). Spencer’s speciality quickly becomes breakfast foods though, and he always wake up before Morgan to make breakfast when he spends the night. The spend most of quarantine learning to make bread like literally 60% of the rest of the population, and Spencer is pretty good at baking too!
- After a hard case, they’ll just sit together on the couch or in bed with hot tea, either sitting with their shoulders touching or fully wrapped in each other’s arms. It’s pretty rare for them to actually talk about the cases, it’s usually enough for them to just be near each other, so the most noise they ever make is soft affirmations and reassurances to each other.
- Morgan spends every day on the job having to fill the role of Tough Guy, usually the first one into a scene, the one with the handcuffs, etc. When he’s given the chance though, he’s able to let some of his walls down around Spencer, especially when they’re alone. He’ll sigh and look at his boyfriend with tired eyes, and Reid will drop all his books and notes in an instant to sit or kneel beside him, asking him if everything is alright. Spencer is also able to talk him down when he’s especially angry at a suspect or about a case, and it’s this calming effect that makes Hotch start to take notice of the way their dynamic has started to shift. They take care of each other, and it makes the horrors and nightmares of their job a little more bearable, because without the job, they never would’ve met.
@octothorpetopus and @reidtheroom I finally finished this and now want to write fics based around all of them, help.

@bnjmin sent ❛ 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. for all :) ❜
⤑ TAKE A PEAK
you’re really making me add this to a read more again, huh.
5. closet
raleigh: his button up shirts & nicer tee shirts on clothes racks with sweaters on the top shelf and shoes on the floor below. he doesn’t have too much room in it otherwise. liz: her closest is too complicated, fuck that. but, while the majority of it is white, the clothes are organized by shades based on the electromagnetic spectrum. surprisingly, most of her shirts are her nasa polos & the only consistent outfit within the closest. because she usually has less than 10 outfits at a time. she swaps out clothes during the seasons, and resales clothes after wearing them a couple times. her sweaters, her personal ones or stolen ones, are kept in drawers within the bedroom alongside jeans & workout attire. like clothes, she has a selected amount of shoes on a bottom shelf. while it won’t be as big as this closest, this has the general vibes. jamie: like raleigh, his button up shirts and any suits. maybe some of his track wear that shouldn’t wrinkle. nicer tee shirts his tennis shoes... and of course his horse gear hiding in the corner :3 maddie: her clothes are just swung on racks when in a hurry to actually clean. if it’s in order, it’s because liz cleaned maddie’s room. most of her shirts are band shirts and leather & jean jackets.
10. pantry
raleigh: box pasta (he loves bow ties because they look like bow ties), rice, cereals (mainly honey nut cheerios, and he’ll try all the flavors), chips (like pretzels, cheetos, popcorn), and kraft mac n’ cheese. then basic baking stuff like cake mixes, sugar, salt, like, typical foods that’s mixed around where he has to scan for a bit to find what he wants. only his teas are organized. and dog food on the bottom. liz: her apartment does not have a pantry. rip. but they way she has food organized is precise. jamie: his studio does not have a pantry. but it would have box stuff similar to raleigh... but vegan versions... alongside having the most spices out of everyone else and protein stuff. and his would be organized like liz’s. maddie: her apartment does not have a pantry. it would probably be empty besides her box of animal crackers if she did tho. thank goodness she lives with liz.
15. bookcase
raleigh: his bookcase holds some of his prized possessions and is one of the few thing he actually keeps organized in his place. and here’s how the bare bones would look like. those science fiction books from his piano instructor, a completed lego models of the millennium falcon and the enterprise as “bookends” with some of his preferred star wars & star trek books, though the models take up more space on that shelf. then everything else is just books with some other trinkets that are vague in my head for now. liz: so she has two bookshelves. the first one is in the living area that most to hold themed books and props to whatever theme caitlyn or liz arranged, though now it’s a combination of whatever maddie and liz want to share in that space. this is what that one would look like, though different items. within her bedroom, liz has a plain shelf with image of it here with several books ordered by the dewey system. she may swap out books when she fells it’s too full, but some of her prized book, like her little women book from her childhood or her engineering textbook from her first class with dr. kumar, will always remain. even if liz may read more on her phone (considering it’s cheaper with the library app), she likes to have physical copies of ones she does enjoy or preorder. oh, slightly off topic, but she’s definitely one of those that reads all the books in bill gates or obama’s book lists every year; she should really join a book club. once liz gets a house, you bet that her bookshelf will look like this one in her study. jamie: this dumbass doesn’t read. maddie: while she doesn’t have too many books for a bookshelf, she does have a vinyl rack. or well, something liz built for her that’s similar to this but maddie would paint lighting bolts on the sides because the sides reminded her of lighting bolts. but she has a simple vinyl rack to store her vinyl that will become canvas for her paintings. and, as for the living room bookshelf, she has one of her 70s cameras she found at an antique store that liz cleaned up for her alongside some of her favorite vinyls to show off or, well, not necessary favorite favorites but ones people will recognize & fit with liz, like fleetwood mac rumors. then, there’s a succulent that liz doesn’t touch that maddie keeps care for; his name is pumpkin because of the orange pot.
20. refrigerator
raleigh: leftovers from takeout, since normally one takeout plate lasts for two meals. then there’s ketchup, soy sauce, milk, eggs, butter, yoghurt (blueberry or oreo preferred), jelly & jam (mainly blueberry or apricot & there’s even blueberry orange marmalade because why not) some veggies, mainly bell peppers & mushrooms, cheeses, chicken, & hot dogs for his dogs. liz: since maddie & liz would share one, i’m listing things that mainly liz’s here. so she has the meal prep meals in containers throughout the work week. leftovers also last longer for her, about three meals. then there’s meats, mainly chicken & salmon (her favorite), basic things like eggs & milk etc, apple butter, jelly & jam (mainly blackberry & grape), worcestershire sauce, & ketchup. jamie: like, all the veggies you can think of. vegan cheeses, oat milk, cilantro, pickles, jam & jelly (mainly strawberry) leftovers. maddie: the avocadoes in the fridge is because of her. there’s also bbq sauce, sriracha, & leftovers. oh, the the mango habanero jam is hers too.
25. five most recent google search history
raleigh: 1. names for shades of yellow / 2. beekeeping in urban setting / 3. bee species in california / 4. the most common bee in the world / 5. bees in winter liz: her google search history has been cleared so i can’t share it :/ jamie: 1. football season updates / 2. how much irrnekg (accidental when holly laid on the keyboard / 3. how much is 8 m in feet / 4. inheritance issues / 5. manage a farm long distance maddie: 1. fairy wings reference / 2. fabric paint in local stores / 3. sour candy lyrics / 4. blinking guy meme / 5. keyboard sale
30. netflix watch history (or just clumping all the streaming services here)
raleigh: the mandalorian, david attenborough’s animal documentaries, x files, dr. oakley yukon vet and yes he cries at every episode don’t judge, indiana jones trilogy no fourth liz: downton abbey, fixer upper, pride & prejudice, the biggest little farm, i am greta, and i guess space documentaries... oh, and the lotr trilogy like, three times already :/ jamie: the office, gilmore girls, flashdance, like all of audrey hepburn’s movies but he tries to hide all of this with fast & furious and cobra kai and action stuff maddie: halloween, nightmare before christmas, the chilling adventures of sabrina, glow, the get down, sailor moon, wayne’s world, magica madoka, the breakfast club

eating: recently, in reverse order -- coffee creme-filled eclair (well-filled, flavoursome, not too sweet) and a ridiculously hot flat white from philippe’s. half a slice of basque cheesecake from amano’s bakery. half an almond croissant from fort greene (i NEVER used to care for them until i tried one from here. maybe times have changed but in the past i found them too artificial-tasting). treyf (poached eggs, pickled pork, hollandaise) on latkes (and a chip or two from the poutine-to-share which alex hooned) with bottomless supreme filter from federal delicatessen. lots of charred broccolini at work. burgers at ralph’s -- i got the vege mac which was GREAT, will re-order, and alex got the cheesesteak which was good in a don’t-need-it-again sort of way.
cooking: spaghetti carbonara, popcorn, victoria sponge, soy-tahini glazed kamokamo (hiakai recipe), moroccan-inspired cauliflower salad (an old ceremony recipe), kind-of-barbecue chicken pizza (alex uses annabel langbein’s pizza base recipe and it was all-good although i know it’s not actually all-good) -- with a side of broccoli. my favourite.
listening to:
in terms of podcasts: alicia kennedy’s “meatless” -- though i have some catching-up to do. i had been listening to samin nosrat and hrishikesh hirway’s “home cooking” but it’s finally complete! i miss them a lot -- it was something loud enough to listen to in the kitchen at work while i got ready for the day, and light enough that i didn’t have to pay Too Much attention.
music-wise: the some things i like to cook and sofi the bakery playlists on spotify. i’m in a rut with what genres interest me right now so being spoon-fed something that is easy to listen to in a food-y environment is really great. the former is a series of 5 playlists curated to match 5 meals amongst friends post-lockdown in melbourne last year (the origin of the new some things i like to cook book by clementine day). the latter is the in-shop music selection for frederik bille-brahe’s newest venture, sofi, a bakery in berlin. you can find them both by searching their names in the app. oh! i also saved the daughter user account but have yet to listen to anything. daughter is a kickstarter-funded community-focussed cafe which will be opening imminently in crown heights, brooklyn. right now they’re a coffee cart with pastries and such available -- keep an eye on their instagram to find out what’s up!
watching: rupaul’s drag race (uk and us), because i love the spectacle of it all. waiting a week for a new episode is the worst. but in the meantime, i watched all of blown away. glass blowing is interesting as HELL. one day i’d love to try it, and knife-making (yes i’ve watched a lot of forged in fire in my time, too), and wood-working. i know i can do short beginner courses, but i’m poor.
reading: alicia kennedy’s weekly newsletter, from the desk of alicia kennedy. i haven’t yet figured out formatting for this blog, can you tell? do you put titles in quotation marks or italicise them? it’ll come to me eventually. anyway, i read this week’s (on cake) but i have a few months’ worth to catch up on. nothing else religiously but since i wrote for stone soup’s final print issue (volume 11: emergence), which published a week ago, perhaps i should read any of the other pieces contained within.
other stuff: started doing the new york times crossword. it’s fun until it’s not. my free trial just ran out though so that might be the end of that.

Adrenaline
“I cannot believe that you’re considering spending $200 on a ticket,” I said.
“I really want to see her.” Cleo shrugged as she stirred the macaroni for our macaroni and cheese on her cooktop.
“I know that you have this obsession with Ariana Grande but $200?” I frowned from where I was sitting on her counter.
I loved Cleo’s apartment. She never turned on her overhead lights. She used twinkle lights and lamps, she even had a lamp that looked like a paper lantern. There was always at least one candle lit in her apartment whenever she was home. She had copious amounts of blankets on her sofa and an excessive amount of pillows on her bed. Cleo loved being comfortable and made it into a decor style. It worked well.
Then there were the posters and photographs on her walls. She had photos of her travels from the time she got her camera when she was sixteen and started travelling the country and the world beyond. She had a large map of the world with pins all over. There was an extra large pin for Chicago because it was her home, and for Thailand, because it was where she fell in love with the world.
I enjoyed being in Cleo’s apartment. The scenes in the photos and the comfort of the decor made it feel exotic and homey at the same time. When I was living here I was stressed about finding a place while somehow, simultaneously being here calmed me down. Whenever we weren’t going out or with the group, I would come here just to spend time in the apartment. Even though my tenure here was brief, s small part of myself still felt at home here.
It could be that it also reminded me of the two of us living together in college, of all the late nights talking and watching television, of the adventures we dreamed and the adventures we made a reality. Cleo and I shared a lot of firsts with each other. Our first failing grades and first time living in an apartment, first time almost setting that apartment on fire, first time learning how to use a fire extinguisher… we learned so much and grew up together. Alone time with Cleo reminded me of that.
“Well, yes. Also, it would be for a date,” she said now. I came back to Earth from inside my thoughts when she said that.
“A date?” I raised my eyebrows.
“Remember the girl from a month ago?” She asked me, looking over as I bit a carrot in half.
“The girl that said she didn't want to see you again after you had a great time?” I clarified.
“That's the one.”
“Wait.” I dropped the carrot that had been in my hand. “You saw her again?” I asked.
“Twice, yeah,” she said sheepishly, knowing I was upset that she hadn't told me sooner.
“What?”
“We met on Tuesday for dinner and on Friday for drinks.”
“So after her saying she didn't want to see you again she just, what? Changed her mind?” I picked up the carrot that had fallen onto the counter and took a bite. I watched Cleo closely as she turned and poured the pasta into the colander in her sink.
“She sent me a text last week saying that yes, she had changed her mind,” Cleo said over her shoulder. She brought the pot back over and began making the cheese sauce. I didn't know whether to say something or wait for her to say something.
“She explained on Friday that she was scared.”
“Scared?”
“Yeah.” Cleo shrugged.
“Of?” I prompted. It was unusual that I was having to prompt her to say anything. Typical Cleo would have already spewed out the whole story, thrown in unnecessary details, said it all and more by now.
“She said she just got out of a long term relationship when we met up last time,” Cleo explained now. “She said that she wasn't ready to open herself up again, especially to someone she could really see herself with, but also that she couldn't stop thinking about me.”
“She said she could see herself with you?” I asked, my voice increasing in pitch. I looked closely and saw that my friend was blushing. It had been a minute since she blushed over a girl like this.
Cleo nodded.
“I don't know, Ruby,” she said. “It just seems kind of effortless with her. She likes the same music and we’ve read the same books. She likes sushi almost as much as I do,” she laughed, “and we haven't even kissed yet. I mean, I really want to, but I'm trying to do it all on her terms.”
“What's her name?”
“Natalia.” Cleo looked absolutely precious, her cheeks still flushed pink and a tiny smile falling to her lips as she said her name.
“Well,” I took a deep breath, “I am up for giving her a second chance.”
“Yeah?” She asked.
“I can see why she would be scared.” I nodded. “You're a catch. That's intimidating as hell.”
“Ruby.”
“Cleo.”
“I mean, I am a catch, but still.”
I laughed.
“Plus I gave Niall a second chance and that is working out well,” I said now.
“Wait, what?”
“It's nothing,” I waved it away. “I didn't realise that our first date was actually our first date so we had to have a second first date. But we're talking about you and Natalia. Tell me everything.”
“I'm so unsurprised that you didn't realise Niall had asked you out. I mean, that's probably the most you thing that's ever happened.” Cleo finished making the cheese sauce and dumped the pasta back into the pot, stirring it all together.
“You and Natalia.” I prodded, ignoring her.
“Fine,” she huffed as she poured equal portions of the mac & cheese into bowls for us. “So, she grew up in Argentina, which is really amazing. She has so many stories about it, Ruby,” she said. “I could listen to her talk about it for ages. Anyway, her family moved to Naperville when she was sixteen and despite having to learn the language and assimilate into the school system, she got into U of I and studied business.”
I was handed my bowl and Cleo jumped up to sit next to me on the counter, her own bowl beside her. I dug in while she kept talking.
“She works as a corporate partnerships coordinator for the Chicago Fire. She says that because she is now fluent in three languages that it helps her so much when it comes to talking to partners on the job, to describing things and sorting out details. She's also just around our age. She turns twenty-seven sometime in October, I think is what she said. She lives out in West Loop, kind of near where Ana and Harry are, but further west than them.”
“She seems really great, Cleo,” I said. “When do I get to meet her?”
“I have no idea,” Cleo said. “But I think you'll really like her.”
“If she keeps making you blush like that, then she'll probably stay in my good graces.”
Cleo laughed and nudged my shoulder with hers.
“Now we’ve just got to get Liam and Louis partnered off and the whole group can be doubled.”
“Louis is married to the bakery,” I said, not in an unkind or negative way. “And I honestly am still trying to figure out how Liam is single.”
“Right?” Cleo asks, her eyes wide as she agrees with me. “He's gorgeous and he's fiercely loyal. Plus, he's a teacher. That's super honourable.”
“You're just saying that to pat your own shoulder because you're also a teacher.” I smirked.
Cleo shrugged.
“Seriously though, do you think it's because of his side hustle that he just hasn't had the time or something?” She asked.
“That could be it,” I admitted. “But I think he and Louis are both happy as they are. Well, I know Louis is. Liam is still a mystery. Maybe it'll change once he's finally in the condo he's been stressing over.”
“He still has to show it to us once he closes on it,” I pointed out. “Not even the Styles’s own their apartment. I wonder if it'll feel different.”
“Probably, just like a different air?” She asked.
“Yeah, it just smells more final or something.” I smiled.
“What does that smell like?”
“Bank loans and adulthood.”
“That sounds about right,” she laughed.
There's a short lull as we each take a bit of our food.
“How are things with you and Niall?”
“We’re really good,” I told her. “When Mehar was here she said that she liked that Niall and I didn't complete each other. That we’re companions.”
“Sounds cheesy, but okay.” Cleo smiled.
“That's what I thought,” I told her. “But, if anything is cheesy tonight it's this mac & cheese.”
“I'm glad I bought the good kind.” Cleo nodded.
“I mean, if I'm gonna splurge on calories, I expect nothing less than the best,” I tell her.
Cleo laughed and we fell into an easy rhythm of asking questions about Natalia and Niall, laughing together, and eating more mac & cheese than either of us would like to admit.
I loved spending time with just Cleo. When we were with the group it was a different dynamic, on that I also loved, but sometimes Cleo and I would say something that even Louis wouldn't understand and we'd share a look.
The two of us have a history. It didn't mean she was a better friend than any of my other friends, but it was our shared history that added to the comfortability that existed between us. They had heard the stories, but Cleo had lived them.
We ended up together on her couch watching YouTube videos and eating a mixture of vegan cookie dough and popcorn. We were snuggled under blankets and my head was on her shoulder.
“Seriously, when do I get to meet Natalia?” I asked in between two videos.
“I'm going to move at her pace, but literally the moment she green lights meeting you guys I will be annoying you so much to come out and get to know her.”
“Are you worried?”
“That she’ll get freaked out and run?” Cleo asked.
I nodded.
“A little,” she admitted, “but I keep thinking about how she came back the first time when she couldn't stop thinking about me. I got under her skin, in a good way. I keep holding onto that.”
“I think that's a good sign,” I agreed. “I like seeing you like this.”
“You've seen me date one person more than once before,” she defended herself.
“Yeah, but it's been a while,” I said. “Your dating app escapades and stories will become no longer, and then where will I seek out entertainment?” I complain. “I'll have to start enjoying books and movies and television again. All of the tales of Cleo will crumble and dissolve into darkness.”
“Shut up.” She pinched my arm, gently. “I'll still have stories.”
“So you say,” I keep on. “But everyone knows that these stories will pale in comparison, will be lacking lustre and life, will be but shadows of their-”
Cleo pushed me off the couch and I ended up on my butt on the floor wedges between it and the coffee table. My words were cut off with an ‘oomph’ when I hit the ground.
“Heyyyy,” I whined.
Cleo was giggling at the sight of me on the floor.
“You're awful.”
“I'm the best,” she said through her giggles.
“Sometime--I don't know when--I will get you back for that.”
“I'm sure you will, Rubes, now get back up here and let's pick a video.”
I crawled back up onto the couch and resumed my position lounging against her, content as we chose another video to view.

I was back in the dream.
I kept telling myself it was the dream. All of this was just me in a dream.
There was no way that I was being followed. The dream had probably just altered after my not having it for so long. I was more than likely still asleep on my couch. I had probably just dreamed that I’d woken up and started over to Niall’s. We were supposed to do dinner together, but it was going to be later because he had to finish the last few notes on a project, which gave me just enough time to go home and nap for twenty minutes before heading over to his.
Clearly, I was still asleep.
But then why had the dream changed since I'd last had it?
This time I knew where I was and I knew where I was going. It was dark like it always was in the dream, but when I pulled my hand from my pocket and looked down, my watch was on my wrist. It was never there in the dream.
I was awake.
I was only a block and a half from Niall’s and the sound of footsteps behind me had sent a chill so cold up my spine I thought I was going to literally freeze into my spot on the sidewalk, feet mid-stride and everything. I didn't though, which was a huge improvement over the original dream.
I looked over my shoulder. It was a man in a dark hoodie, with the hood pulled up. Which was not something I should be worried about. It was misting outside. I hadn’t bothered with my own hood, but I had also already taken my makeup off and put my hair in a bun. The weather wasn’t a worry for me, I was accustomed to it.
Still, the sight of a man with his hood pulled up walking behind me on an otherwise empty and dark street had caused my heart to jump up into my throat. I took a deep breath and pushed it down, telling myself that it was fine, that everything was fine, and that I was worrying over nothing.
I thought through everything Brian had taught me over the past few months. I was in a well-lit area. I had an umbrella I could use if I needed it. I could even probably make it to Niall’s ahead of my follower if I sprinted. I also knew how to handle myself if I was attacked from behind or otherwise. I was strong, physically and mentally.
I swallowed my fear and willed myself to keep walking and not panic. I forced my pulse to slow down as I altered my pace and noticed that the man behind me didn’t bother trying to change his stride. That was a comfort in itself.
I was still freaking out though.
Until I got to Niall’s street and when I turned onto it, the man behind me didn’t. He kept going straight.
I felt myself let out a shaky breath before I hunched over, putting my hands in my knees and pulling in another deep breath. It took me a few moments but I pulled myself together and made it the rest of the way to Niall’s.
It took me a minute to stop shaking so that I could send a text to let him know to come down and get me. During that time, I tried my hardest to pull myself together as best as I could before Niall came out through the front door to greet me.
“Hey, I just got home a few minutes ago,” he smiled as he came up to me, “so the food is still really hot.”
Food. Right. We’d agreed on Chinese takeout before he left work. He picked it up on his way.
“Ruby?”
I took a deep breath and looked up at him when he reached out to me and put a hand on each of my shoulders. His eyes clouded over with concern. I was still focusing on breathing evenly, but I could feel that my face was flushed and knew my eyes were probably blown wide from my stressor before.
“What's wrong?”
“I just… I can't… And then the…” I was stuttering, unable to finish my sentences and thoughts. Niall didn't look panicked, but he was searching my face for any signs of what was causing me to act like this.
I just kept thinking through what I would've done had that man actually been following, had he attacked me. I could see the moves in my mind. Unlike my dream, I could feel in my bones that I would've done what I had been taught by Brian. I knew I would've done it.
It wasn't that I was scared by how weak I was. I was horrified by how I had been thinking of ways to defend myself from a harmless person that was just walking by. I had thought through ways to hurt someone who was just going about his business.
That was what scared me. That I had intended to hurt someone who had no intent to hurt me.
Then there was the problem of my adrenaline. I had been on such high alert that my nerves were frayed and now that the danger was gone, I had no energy left to hold myself together. It wasn't just these past three minutes either.
It felt like the last four months of my constantly being on guard around my friends, my family, and even myself were just snapping into me and like a rubber band that had been stretched so much for so long, I was far too useless at this point and unable to keep anything in place. The lie that I had told to protect myself felt like it was coming back at me and ready to punch me out.
I hadn't realised how physically exhausted I was or how mentally taxing it had been. I noticed here and there, but now it felt like every single moment of fear and paranoia and brokenness was crashing down onto me.
Because the threat was non-credible and my adrenaline was not used in aid of self-defence, it was being used to fuel the crippling pressure I get all over.
“C’mon, let's get you inside,” Niall said now. His voice sounded like it was coming from very far away, and distorted like I was hearing it through water. He still looked confused, but he was confident as he led me into his building, his arms around me, holding me safely.
In the elevator, he wiped my cheeks with his thumbs and it was then that I realised I was crying, that that raspy sound was my breathing echoing around the small room as I struggled to hold myself as together as possible.
Apparently, I wasn’t doing a very good job. After a sob wracked through me, Niall moved so that my face was pressed against his chest and his arms wrapped around me, holding me close to him. I fisted my hands into his sweater as I held onto him.
When the elevator opened I didn’t think I could move to get out. The physical exhaustion had settled over me. I was useless at this point.
Without me saying anything, Niall kneeled down and picked me up from underneath my knees, holding me bridal style and carrying me to his apartment. He didn’t put me down once we crossed the threshold. Instead, he carried me over to his couch and sat down, cradling me to him as he pulled a blanket around us both.
I felt myself let loose and I just started weeping, not holding anything back as my tears soaked through Niall’s sweater. He made me feel safe, even while I was falling apart in his arms. He began rubbing soothing circles on my back, his cheek resting against the top of my head. He didn’t say anything. He just held me while I cried, and cried, and cried. My sobs echoed throughout his tiny apartment, but he held steadfast, didn’t falter, didn’t distance himself.
I don’t know how long we stayed like that, with him holding me while I cried, but it felt like ages when I finally hiccupped and my tears slowed. My eyes were still closed, but it felt like what I assumed a hungover to feel like. My head felt like it had been run over by a truck and my body felt as if it had been beaten with a sledgehammer. I was as limp as a jellyfish. If Niall hadn’t been holding me I would have puddled into an amorphous pile on his floor.
He let me speak first. I don’t think I would ever forget that he let me speak first, that he left it up to me to decide when I was finally ready to talk. He didn’t have to prompt me. I just knew he was willing to listen, his words weren’t necessary.
Now that the tears had stopped and my hiccups paused as I forced deep breaths into my body, I felt myself as I was: broken. I had been naive to think that I was getting better simply because I was ignoring the problem, ignoring the signs. My naivety had cost me the illusion and was shattered, a shadow of who I was.
“It was maybe a week or so before you got here something happened,” I worked out. My voice was scratchy and hollow. Not only did I feel like a shadow of myself, but I also sounded like one as well. “I was walking home from a night out with everyone. It was probably only eleven, but I don’t really remember exactly. I was only a few blocks from home. It’s a walk I’ve made hundreds of times no problem. It’s a walk I still make all the time, without a problem. Everything was normal, except, back then I had been having problems with my front door lock.”
I could feel Niall’s arms stiffen around me, but he still didn’t say anything.
“It had been going on for probably over a month.” I took a deep breath to hold back the tears. I thought I had been all cried out, but apparently, I wasn’t. Still, I bit them back and soldiered on with my story.
“At first it was just that it was sticky and took an extra jiggle, then it was that I had to pull my key our a little bit and then turn it, and just the day before it happened it took me close to fifteen minutes of swearing and yelling at my door, trying and failing to turn my key even a little bit before my door finally opened. I had made a note to text my landlord, but it was only a day later and he hadn’t gotten to it.
“Anyway, when I was walking home that night everything was fine until I turned onto my block, and someone was behind me. It was fine. I even felt guilty for thinking the worst of them when I got really afraid of what could happen. And then I made it through my gate and was at my door, putting my key into the lock I had just remembered didn’t work properly, and I heard my gate creak open again behind me.”
When I paused to catch my breath this time I felt Niall’s arms tighten around me. Him being there for me really helped push me forward, really helped me to say the words aloud for the first time. I mean, I’d told Brian it had happened at home. Had told Brian I had been attacked. I had not sketched out the scene for him, had not told him move-by-move what had happened. This was different. This was harder. It would’ve been impossible with anyone but Niall.
“The worst part was that I knew what was going to happen and I had no way of preventing it. I had no idea how to save myself from what was about to… from what did… He grabbed me around my throat so that I couldn’t even scream. I wasn’t able to do anything because of the fear and because after a little bit of a struggle I was starting to grow weaker, was starting to see spots from the lack of oxygen. I couldn’t even think to do what he was telling me to. When I heard the switchblade open I was able to finally force myself to move and hand him my bag out of my sense of self-preservation. He gave one final squeeze, one that bruised my ribs and severely damaged my throat and then was gone. Vanished into the night.”
Niall’s breathing was steady underneath me but for one hitch when I’d mentioned the word switchblade.
“My throat was bruised for over a week. I hid it with makeup and scarves and turtlenecks. I couldn’t go for a run to clear my mind because when I tried I was spitting up blood, agitating the injury… Not being able to workout to clear my mind was what upset me most, but I managed. I got through the worst of it and successfully hid my bruises. I started going to kickboxing classes during the week instead of running, and every Thursday I go to my self-defence class. The instructor, Brian, noticed my injuries and has been so helpful. I wouldn’t have made it through I don’t think if it wasn’t for him.”
Niall kissed the top of my head and then my forehead. He was so warm around me, radiating calming energy into me to keep me grounded. His hand rubbing circles on my back settled the unease in my stomach, the bile that had been rising in my throat as I recanted my story.
“Everything was going well until the nightmare started in November. It was dark and one man in a dark hood turned into hundreds of identical men and I wasn’t able to move in the dream. I was frozen. It was terrible because I had thought I was making progress with my classes and in my dream, I wasn’t doing anything. It was maddening. I haven’t had it in a few weeks, but tonight when I was walking to yours I had a someone walking behind me. He was bigger, had his hood up because of the rain, and in my mind, I immediately flashed back. I was able to swallow down my fear and think through everything I knew to do. I was scared but in control.”
Niall nodded, I think absentmindedly, as he listened.
“When I made it to your street and turned he kept walking straight and I was flooded with relief and fear at my thoughts and I didn’t know what to do with all of my adrenaline and everything just kept rushing through me and I couldn’t… I couldn’t control my reactions after that.”
“You’re safe now, Ruby,” he held me close.
“I know,” I said, my voice cracking. “I know, but that doesn’t change anything.”
“I know.” He nodded against me. He didn’t try to change my mind, didn’t try to belittle what I was thinking. He just agreed and that was all. His validation spread through me. I didn’t need it, I wasn’t seeking it, but it comforted me nonetheless. It felt like coming home after a long day and sinking onto your sofa and just feeling that relief seep in through all of your pores, into your muscles and lulling you into a state of bliss.
This was far from bliss, but the effect was the same.
“Who else-”
“Brian,” I said before he could finish his question.
“Your self-defence teacher?”
I nodded.
“Who else?”
“Well, you know.”
“And that’s it?”
I nodded.
“Nobody else knows?”
“Nobody else.”
“Okay,” he said. “Okay. That’s okay.”
He wasn’t asking me why I hadn’t told anyone. He wasn’t judging me for not telling anyone. He wasn’t telling me to tell anyone. He just accepted that I hadn’t told anyone and kept on going.
“How about I make you some tea and once you’re settled down, we can eat and we can get you to bed.”
“Okay,” I agreed.

Disney 2022 Day 2 or The Day We Saved The Galaxy:
Today was Epcot day. Fair word of warning, they still haven't brought back the parking lot trams. Also, if you're rushing to your virtual queue spot for Cosmic Rewind, make sure SOMEONE remembers where you parked. This will be important later.
We were hoping to have a bit of a lie-in after being up so late for the Halloween party on Friday, however someone had to be up at 7 to try to get in the queue for Guardians. We snagged position 39 which was estimated to be called around 11:30. So I tried to go back to sleep. It didn't happen. And then when I checked the app at 8 our call back time was estimated at 10:45. By the time we got to the park, (at 9:50) our group had been called and we had to book it to the ride. In the confusion, nobody noticed where we parked. The coaster was totally worth it. Word to the wise: it is INTENSE. Almost thought Andrea might hurl. But she didn't!

Once we had recovered and found Kelly in the gift shop, it was time to eat ALL the things! First stop was Mac and Eats for Kelly and Nathan, Coastal Eats for Andrea and a fry flight from the Fry Basket for all of us!

Then, we headed to World Showcase to start the rounds, however we decided to start by grabbing the PB&J wings from Brew-Wing. OMG guys those things are AMAZING! We need to find a knockoff recipe for home because I could eat a literal ton.

We couldn't stop eating long enough to get a good pic lol. We bucked tradition and started in Mexico today. It was a good choice because Donald was out in his 3 Caballeros outfit. Got my first character hug in over 20 years!

We got a crispy paneer from the India booth. For four people who love fried cheese none of us really liked it. The watermelon Dole Whip we found afterwards was a suitable palate cleanser. We wanted to go see the American Adventure show for some A/C but it was closed for refurbishment. Then, we were in Japan. You know what happened next. Kakigori.

Nobody EVER sits in the bamboo Grove. Shhh it's our secret! We had fried cheese from Greece with a much-needed Power-Ade. Nathan wanted maple popcorn from Canada so we headed that way, but ran into Mary Poppins on the way.

Then it was off to Soarin' in the Land pavillion, my wife's favorite ride. But I got a LITTLE distracted on my way there.

He really liked my outfit! Then it was Turtle Talk with Crush at the Seas and we were heading back to the room for an early night... except remember when I said nobody noticed where we parked? It took us at LEAST half an hour to find the car. Not how we wanted to end the day, but we still had fun!

They’re halfway through their English assignment and tall cups of to-go coffee when Bellamy smacks his laptop closed so suddenly that it manages to startle her. Eyebrows raised, she watches him silently for a minute, noticing the frustration that shines through his facial features.
“What’s wrong?”
Although he looks at her then, he carefully avoids her eyes. Instead, his gaze seems to be faced on her cheek, and she has no idea why until he notes, “You’ve got some sharpie right there.”
Having said that, Bellamy leaves Clarke to rub at her cheekbone and wonder why the hell he’s acting so weirdly all of a sudden. In all of the years she has known him, he’s always been weird about some things, like how he refuses to drink coffee from gas stations and color-coordinates his M&M’s before eating them, but he’s never been weird like this.
Clarke, being stubborn as always, joins him by the window and places a hand on his shoulder. She feels him tense under her touch before he murmurs, “I fucked up.”
“How much?”
“Big time.”
In effort to cheer him up, Clarke doesn’t interrogate any further. She just steals his glasses like she has a million times before, expecting him to grin in response, but he only frowns. When she takes a step forward, Bellamy does something even more unexpected: He wraps his arm around her, pulling her closer to reclaim the glasses. It might not seem like much, and yet it still manages to make her breath hitch a little.
“I let you distract me. When I first met you, and we bickered all the time, Miller told me that you’d get under my skin eventually. I didn’t think it would ever happen, but here we are.”
They met as freshmen as members of the debate club, so for a while their entire relationship was built on irrelevant disagreements. Eventually, however, they went to the women’s march and the pride parade together, which caused them to discover that they have more in common than what meets the eye.
Unable to say anything in response, Clarke simply stares at him, waiting for a continuation. Bellamy’s eyes search hers before he admits, “I don’t actually need help with the assignment. I just wanted to spend some time with you, because… Because I think you’re cute and intelligent and funny… I’m sorry I lied. I just—“
To silence him, she presses a finger to his full lips, trying not to focus on the fact that his hand is still placed against her spine, keeping the distance between them breathtakingly small. “Seriously, Bellamy. Is it really that difficult to ask me out? Am I that intimidating?”
“A little bit,” he replies as a smile tugs at the corner of his mouth. “Look, I was afraid you were gonna say no and then roast my ass in the debate club or something.”
At that, Clarke cocks her eyebrows, now smiling a little despite herself. “That scenario doesn’t sound impossible. If I was going to turn you down, of course.”
She lets herself enjoy the sight of his surprised expression before she leans in to press her lips to his freckled cheek. When she pulls back, there’s a confident grin on his face that nearly knocks all of the air from his lungs, but as if that isn’t enough, she asks, “Where are you taking me?”
“The rooftop.”
“Classic!” Clarke muses, placing a hand on his chest without really knowing why. Obviously, having your first date with someone on a rooftop isn’t actually classic, but it’s classical Bellamy. In freshman year, the only thing she ever noticed about him was the rough, cocky exterior — However, once they became Sophomores and they became friends, she realized that he’s incredibly soft and more than a little dorky on the inside.
And she knows more about it than he thinks she does. She knows that he has a collection of hand-me-down books that he’d love to turn into a private library one day; that he sings in the shower and pours melted chocolate over popcorn when his sister wants to watch a movie. He’s undoubtedly what her father would call ‘a respectable young man’.
“I’ve read on the weather app that it isn’t going to be very cloudy tonight. Hopefully, we’ll be able to see the stars.”
“Romantic,” Clarke notes, watching the brown skin of his cheek flush a little. The dab of color makes him more attractive, if that’s even possible. If he thinks that he’s the only one who has kept things hidden, then he’s wrong. Often, she catches herself staring at him across the hall as if they’re protagonists in a cheesy music video, and her friends have frequently enjoyed pointing it out.
Inside her chest, her heart is leaping excitedly. “Well, there are still a few hours left ‘til sundown. How about we go shopping for some snacks and cook dinner in the meantime?”
Obviously, Bellamy thinks it’s a great idea….
Even though they return to harmless banter when they try to decide which ice cream flavor to pick, Clarke lets him win, causing him to raise his eyebrows in surprise. Instead of placing his original pick, wild cherry, in the basket, however, he goes for a flavor that’s a nice compromise considering what they both want: Cherry with brownie chunks.
“Nice.”
“If we’re gonna date, we’ll have to get used to this.”
Well, he’s right, even if the things they disagree on are mostly harmless. Years ago, those harmless things all seemed like a big deal, but once they started to genuinely like each other, understanding their differences and dealing with them in a simple way became much easier.
Beside the ice cream, they agree on the rest of the snacks: Skittles, cookies and cream toffee, barbecue chips, root beer and Bellamy’s chocolate-covered popcorn, of course. When Clarke suggests that they have mac and cheese for dinner, because it’s simple, Bellamy huffs.
“Mac and cheese? How am I going to impress you by making that? Nope, it’s not happening.”
Clarke chuckles. “What are you gonna make then? Lobster?”
“Don’t tempt me,” he jokes, winking at her. “Fine, let’s say mac and cheese. But I’ll bet my ass that it’s going to be the best mac and cheese this world has ever seen.”
Teasingly, she nudges him. It’s great that she finds his confidence endearing now. “We’ll see.”
Oh lord. As much as she doesn’t want to fuel his ego by admitting that he managed it, Bellamy has cooked the best mac and cheese the world has ever seen — or, she hasn’t tasted one better, at least. She doesn’t know what he’s put in it, because he won’t tell her, but her taste buds dance in euphoria every time she takes another bite.
Suddenly, she understands why people need to use the word ‘mouthgasm’ sometimes, even though the cheesiness of it makes her cringe.
If he can satisfy her taste buds this much with his cooking, imagine if… No, she’s not going there. Not tonight, that would be too soon. Feeling a blush creep into her cheeks at the thoughts that are suddenly streaming through her mind without permission, Clarke tries not to pay attention to the sensation of Bellamy looking at her.
It’s not possible for him to know, right? To read minds? To turn the attention away from herself, Clarke decides to finally say something. “This is really good.”
When she looks at him then, he’s smiling in the way that makes her heart melt every time she sees it: This smile creates crinkles at the corners of his dark brown eyes, but it’s still soft and seems effortless. Running a hand through his hair, he replies, “I’m glad you think so.”
“Do you have other hidden talents?” Suddenly, that question emerges from her lips, and she immediately curses herself for allowing it. She spends the next second praying that he didn’t catch its sexual undertones, but it looks as if he chokes on nothing, and therefore she can only conclude that he did.
In spite of this, Bellamy seems to gather himself pretty quickly. “Some, I guess. You haven’t seen them yet, though.”
And with that, he leaves her to gape at him while he does the dishes.
Their date is at least as cozy as she’d imagined it would be: Above them, thousands of stars beam and he tells her some of their stories. While he shows her Cassiopeia, and her tragic story falls off his lips as if he’s told it countless times, Clarke thinks the sweetness of the chocolate-covered popcorn has risen to her head…
… Because she can’t stop thinking of kissing him.
“I turned sixteen and started to drive my mother’s car, and Octavia would beg me to go camping with her. That’s when I learned to turn the stars into a map and to make different kinds of snacks that she loved, even if they kept her up all night.”
“You’re a great brother,” Clarke says, mesmerized by the sight of his bronze skin flooded by starlight.
He mutters a thank you, then stays silent for a minute, and she wonders what he’s thinking of until he reveals it. “… Clarke, I’m really sorry I lied to you.”
Without caring, she inches closer, leaving no space between them. As soon as he feels her against his side, Bellamy puts his arm around her. Because of this, she has to take a second before she replies, “Nevermind. I mean, just think about it: We swapped our boring English assignments for this. Instead of correcting each other’s grammar, we went on a date. I think that’s pretty damn cool.”
“It’s very us, isn’t it?”
The question manages to knock every ounce of air from Clarke’s lungs.
Us. They are an ‘us’, a unit.
Well, maybe they have been since they became co-presidents of the debate club, but this feels very different somehow, like rose petals and love songs are lingering at the edges of the word. That’s what takes her breath away.
“It is,” she says, managing to speak in spite of the fact that her heart is beating against the cage of her chest. In the moment that passes afterwards, their eyes lock. She’s not sure for how long, as it could’ve been seconds, minutes, days even. Maybe the sun rises and sets on the sky above them several times, but they just don’t notice.
When they finally kiss, Clarke isn’t sure of much. She doesn’t know who moves first or why — the only thing she is completely certain of is that it feels like a moment of simple bliss — like walking barefoot through a field of wildflowers, like watching raindrops gather in the palm of your hand, like running your fingertips across the spine of your favorite book.
They break apart to catch their breath, but the intense eye contact remains for a couple of minutes, as if their gazes have become jealous of their lips, and they want to kiss as well.
“For all of our screw ups,” Clarke starts, her voice low. “It’s nice to know that we finally did something right.”
Once she’s said that, they throw their heads back in laughter, sending true happiness towards the starry sky.
you can send me a prompt here :) ❤

Disneyland Tips from an Annual Passholder
If you’ve been here long, you know we are ALL Disney obsessed. As soon as my husband started looking at prospective jobs in Los Angeles four years ago, I was excited for quite a few reasons, but mostly because I could possibly be living SO CLOSE to Disneyland. Fast forward four years, and here we are. You’d think my craving for all things Disney would have been satisfied with how often we go, but really, my love for it just grows with every visit! Haha 🙂 I get asked a lot what my best tips are for doing Disneyland and what I’d recommend, so here are all the delicious details in one post for fellow Disney lovers like me.
1. The first thing to remember is that you won’t get everything on your list! We were at Disneyland more than 30 days last year (that’s an entire month!) and we still didn’t experience everything that they have to offer in the parks. Before you go, decide what’s most important to you and to your group and focus on a few main things that you don’t want to miss.
(the twins first birthday in Disneyland)
2. You only need one app – the Disneyland official app. Through that app, you can make dining reservations, see where character meet-and-greets are in the park, check wait times, and see all the entertainment scheduled throughout the park that day. You can also access any photo pass photos that are taken throughout your trip, and use the Max Pass (more info on that in a minute!) through the Disneyland app. We’ve found it’s the most up-to-date when it comes to ride closures, wait times, and for entertainment schedules compared to other apps. You can also see information on each ride – like height requirements, thematic elements, and what age group the ride is best suited for.
3. It’s OK to bring young kids. In fact, I’d recommend it! Disney is so much more magical when experienced with little ones! The parks are incredibly kid-friendly, and even BABY-friendly. There are nurseries/baby changing stations in both parks that make it easy to take care of little ones. They even offer plenty of chairs for breastfeeding, entertainment for little ones that need a break, high chairs, a whole room dedicated to changing tables, and they even have a tiny toilet that you can use when you’re potty training toddlers (seriously, they think of it all). The care center in Disneyland is located right off Main Street by the First Aid center, and the one in California Adventure is located right by the Ghiradelli store. They also offer a ride-switch pass to parents, so if you’re there without additional adults to watch kids while you go on “big kid” rides. Just ask the cast member at the entrance to the ride for a rider-switch pass before you get in line. To those who questions whether or not it’s worth it to bring young kids who won’t remember anything, I say: THEY may not remember it, but I most certainly will. I mean, just look at that FACE!
(riding the Tea Cups – their favorite ride!)
4. Consider the time of year you’re going before you book your trip. The busiest times of the year are in the summer (June through August) and/or surrounding holiday weekends. If you’re looking for less crowds, try going in January through March or in September and October. If you want to experience the EXTRA Disney magic during the holidays, always go sooner rather than later! (I.e. if you want to go for Halloween go at the beginning of the month when it’s first decorated or if you want to go for Christmas, go the last week of November or the first week of December before it gets too crazy). If you like to avoid crowds definitely skip the week leading up to Christmas and the week following Christmas. Usually the park is SO PACKED for those two weeks that the parks reach capacity around 11 AM. The weekdays in the parks are always less crowded, too. Saturday and Sunday are almost always more crowded.
5. Speaking of TIMING – when you are at the parks, it’s best to get there early, especially if you have little ones who want to ride all the rides in fantasyland and not wait 50 minutes (those rides don’t have Fast Pass or Max Pass options). The earlier you get there, the less crowded it will be. I’d recommend getting there as soon as the park opens (or even get in line BEFORE the park opens). If you’re staying at the Disney park hotels or get a 3-day park hopper with a magic hour, BE SURE TO USE IT! You can literally get on all the rides you want to ride before the park even opens to the rest of the general public. Then you can just enjoy the rest of your day soaking in all the magic and taking things slow (which is so nice when you have little ones!).
(Funniest photo bomb courtesy of some random man)
6. Take advantage of the Fast Pass feature! And in my personal opinion, GET THE MAX PASS! Fast pass is free, but Max Pass is $10, per person, per day (and it is 100% worth it). With Fast Passes, they are a physical ticket you have walk over to the ride to pick up and keep with you until it’s time to ride. While they are great and can get you on the ride in a short amount of time, you still have to take the time to walk to the ride to pick up the fast pass. When you use the Max Pass feature, it’s all ELECTRONIC! You can book a Max Pass through your mobile device from anywhere inside the parks without having to walk to each individual ride to pick it up. When you have young kids with tired feet, it’s well worth the investment (even if it’s just for one day).
7. Speaking of mobile devices, if you’re anything like me, you’ll be using the Disney app to check times, book max passes, and using your phone to take about 300 photos every time you’re there, so I would recommend getting a portable charger. THIS ONE is my favorite and can fully re-charge your phone 4-5 times. Worth every penny.
8. One of the best things about Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure are the SHOWS! Whether it’s fireworks, Fantasmic, Parades, light shows, or a sit-down show in a theatre, you really can’t go wrong. If you would rather not wait as long saving spots, several restaurants throughout the parks offer preferred dining packages with reserved seating areas (also worth the money with young kids, in my opinion). World of Color (which is my FAVORITE) also has Fast Passes available for reserved seating – get there early in the morning for better seating! The indoor shows are always a great, air-conditioned place to rest from the heat of the day, too.
(Watching World of Color – Liv just couldn’t look away!)
9. You KNOW it wouldn’t be a post of Disneyland recommendations without FOOD, right? Let me just tell you, the food in the parks is one of the best parts of the experience! I literally factor food into my budget for each trip to the parks because I just can’t get enough – and they are adding new things all the time. They have fun food festivals and specialty foods surrounding holidays or big events (like Pixar Fest, happening now through September 3rd).
Here is a list of all of my favorite foods to try and places to eat:
DISNEYLAND: Jolly Holiday: We love the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup, but our favorite thing on the menu is their raspberry rose macaron (pictured below). The matterhorn macaroon is also a fun, tasty treat. Carnation Cafe: Good meatloaf, DELICIOUS fried pickles. Plaza Inn: I hear they have delicious breakfasts, but their FRIED CHICKEN is our favorite. Cafe Orleans: Get reservations, then order the Monte Cristo, Pommes Frites, and Beignets and thank me later. If you’re a fan of gumbo, I’d recommend that, too. Blue Bayou: Nothing beats that atmosphere, but the Gruyere Mac ‘n Cheese comes a close second. Their gumbo is hard to beat, too. (You’ll definitely need reservations here – you can book up to 60 days in advance). Bengal Barbecue: The safari skewers are actually pretty tasty and actually low-cal Red Rose Taverne: The grey stuff really is delicious! Also, POUTINE. Tiki Juice Bar: Every trip to Disneyland needs a Dole Whip. No question. Pooh’s Corner: We like to get our treats here because it’s usually a lot less crowded. I’d recommend the Tigger Tails, caramel apples, white chocolate raspberry cookies, and the chocolate-dipped peanut butter squares (most of these treats are available in both parks anywhere they sell confections). Carts throughout the park: You can never go wrong with the popcorn, churros, or their cream cheese filled pretzels!
DISNEY’S CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE: Carthay Circle: Cutest old-hollywood glam atmosphere (and you’ll probably want reservations). We’ve done dining packages through here for World of Color and really liked it! (side note, it’s $$$, but I hate saving seats for 3 hours and trying to keep young kids entertained to get a good spot to see shows). Ghiradelli: We love their Ocean Beach Sea Salt Caramel Sundae, Nob Hill Chill (my husband’s fave) and the Sea Salt Caramel Quake Shake. Plus, you get a piece of chocolate just for walking through the door! The Cove Bar: Get the lobster nachos – or if you don’t like seafood, ask them to substitute tri-tip for the lobster. SO, so good. Their cotton candy lemonade is also a fun drink. (This will be renamed the lamplight lounge after Pixar Pier opens, but rumor has it some of the most beloved menu items will be staying put!) Flo’s V8 Cafe: Their breakfast is delicious, and they have sides for $2.99 that are the exact same size as a kid’s portion, so we get the kids sides for dinner every other time we’re at the parks! Cozy Cones: Their churros with dipping sauce, Red’s Apple Freeze, and the Bacon Mac ‘n Cheese bread cone are all delicious! Pacific Wharf Cafe: I’m not sure there is anything better on a cold day than a warm, sourdough bread bowl full of clam chowder. Schmoozies: My favorite place for ice cold fruity drinks on hot days at the parks, but they also have AMAZING donuts and cronuts (if you can get to them before they sell out!). Studio Catering Co: If you couldn’t get into the Cove Bar (they don’t take reservations!), you’ll want to try the “Obviously Nachos.” They are a close second to the Lobster Nachos. Corn Dog Castle: I’m not a huge corn dog fan, but even I will eat these corn dogs! Turkey Legs: Okay, so these aren’t my favorite thing (they’re a little greasy for my taste), but I feel like they are a right of passage in the Disney realm. You have to try it at least once!
That’s it! Have any more questions? Have anything to add to the list? I’d love to hear!

Move A Time Machine Back-up.
There are actually tons of means males may screw a lady over, even if accidentally. As you could reckon coming from the headline, each from the narratives ties right into opportunity trip or even the movement of time in some way. The first phase performs a great job from developing this intriguing setting, where people can easily travel back Time Salvager is the 1st book in the newest collection by John W. Campbell Honor winner, Wesley Chu, published by Tor. This whole play revolves around Viola, a young lady which decides and also makes it through a shipwreck in order to get ahead in life by dressing as a male as well as the tricks that arise from this. Apple highly recommends that you attach your Macintosh straight to the amount of time Capsule for the first backup, makings a copy of all documents on your Mac computer; backed-uping that much information takes a very long time over the network. Individuals which desire to take care of remote Macintoshes or even who want to operate manuscripts containing demands for Opportunity Device. Along with the music appearing of the AirPlay speakers, you could control this straight off your iPhone: play, pause, skip or handle the intensity. This works to recognize, just in case I ever before receive that time maker in the cellar working, and after that determine to journey back to the 1600's to mislead one more girl in to falling for me. http://orlespensees-blog.info may also browse the compilation of butterflies you got, supposing you made the effort to locate all of them at each of the sites you went to. TVShow Opportunity is actually a quite appealing TV collection administration app that's excellent for individuals who appreciate this type of mixeds media content ... which nowadays is basically all of us. Select 'Enter Time Equipment' (either from the Dock or the symbol in your food selection bar) and also Time Device shows up to drift the active Finder window above an astronomical history. It was reasonable that he really did not have a huge, vivid or even dominating personality viewing that he had actually lived by themselves for a very long opportunity and also possessed never even left his tower before/experienced life past its own boundaries. Within this sense, Opportunity Device contrasts from the auto-save as well as versioning function in Operating System X 10.7 Cougar. Popcorn Opportunity is actually a movie and collection player that are going to delight enthusiasts of the type of audiovisual material. Off a Jewish perspective, time on its own possesses an important premium or even qualities to this. Opportunity lives. I play single-player video games and also really want nothing at all more than to share them with other gamers, then I participate in MMOs and lament that they are actually such grindy, frantic, unimmersive, unscrupulous items of shit that create me dislike whoever I try to play them along with. Much of his videos are actually Let's Play but he additionally diversify into funny and cartoon parodies. If there was actually any type of compensation, Forget-Me-Not would certainly possess a long-lasting spot on top of the Google Play charts. The attraction of the doctrine of your time administration is that, eventually, whatever might lastly be in control. But there are going to be times when you desire to hear your music via a proper set of speakers, see your movies on your large-screen high definition TV, or even watch your slide presents on compatible digital photograph structures. This is incredibly useful for people who disperse their opportunity amongst numerous projects throughout the time. Just as a practice, I tethered my MacBook Pro to my Verizon system on my phone, which gave closer to 40mbps velocities, and also I didn't find a lot from a performance variation at max environments. In the Check out application on your iPhone, tap Music, at that point, under Music Syncing, choose a playlist. It's the game that has actually messed up a number of our educational institution occupations, job professions as well as real life partnerships but my word this's enjoyable to participate in. Having actually put together the list of areas, including the metropolitan area of the conference's bunch or even coordinator, the user hints the moment switch to start organizing. My Vista VM is 26 GIGABYTE, not something I would like to have numerous duplicates from within the Time Maker older post. Interestingly sufficient, that's now just about 4 1/2 years later and also Pandora still calls for Flash to be installed. Opportunity System Pro, through Nonlinear Concepts, is actually a $3 global app that performs precisely what that mentions. There is a very nice, free of charge application coming from Emerald Sequoia, LLC got in touch with Emerald green Opportunity It performs link to an NTP web server (a number of, as a matter of fact) and also will certainly give you a dead-on time of day, most likely within a next from the NIST atomic time clock. As an intriguing parallel (which this manual is full of - that really is exceptional at its own styles) we find the time firm on its own with all is actually electrical power and opportunity, eventually riven along with shadiness and also entirely powerless and also futile considering the firms' management. There was http://orlespensees-blog.info with Houdini and also if you remember off the very first book, there was actually the homicide and also action scene with Holmes at the Chicago World Fair, 1983. James, our protagonist, has actually adhered to the regulations on every jump, however on this final one, the one that could purchase him from his deal, he states 'Stuff it' and also conserves a girl he possesses insta-love with and carries her foremost on time. However, considered that this's merely received a boosted monitor as well as soul cost track that may certainly not be enough from a remodeling on the Pebble Opportunity to lure proprietors to channel their present version. These documents change whenever you perform just about anything in Microsoft window, thus you should back all of them up separately. That's a bunch of fun over Remote Play, whether participating in solo or in on the internet matches, however the instant hold-up in response time may definitely bungle a professional play effort. Even when you drag the scrubber to leap ahead to afterward mark in the video recording, the feedback is near-instantaneous (no buffering) and this feels as though the documents are actually on your device. I love the wistful longing for the wonders from recent that go through Finney's opportunity trip stories.
