Go spend some time on male pattern baldness or male(AMAB) balding forums/subreddits and such. I did after realizing it is happening to me and the ammount of people who truly don't realize how BRUTALLY it tanks people's confidence and mental health is insane.
There's no cure to baldness by the way, and it can start at any time and there's no way to predict how fast or slow it will go. The only real working option is a daily pill that usually just halts it, but it can stop working or just slow it down or cause major side effects. To regrow you have to use a daily topical solution, or use a roller to wound your scalp. None of these are surefire by the way, and if you stop them you'll just lose your hair and whatever you regained. It's a daily involved thing that might not work and often at best just retains. The best drug, the one that occasionaly gives regrowth, also causes shedding at the start, and can have side effects from growing breasts to brain fog to EDsyfunction(sorry, censoring cause tumblr). Now, those are INCREDIBLY rare and almost never happen but it weighs heavily on the mind of those already spiraling.
But that's just background. What I'm here to talk about is the pure woe you'll see on those forums. People speak as though their lives are over, as though they've lost every chance of finding a woman(predominantly, there's a running idea in such places that women don't like bald men or like them less) or doing anything. You can read countless stories of people who describe that they no longer go outside, are now filled with anxiety and self-hate, have gone from extroverted to never showing their face. And some of these people are kids who lost their hair in high school or even before, or are holding as best they can to a very receded hairline and feel like there is nothing they can do.
And then there's something touched upon far less in those communities, but is important to bring up here; baldness and masculinity. There's the horror of knowing so much of society sees a bald guy as a very masculine guy, at seeing that the best advice for being hot and bald is "grow and beard and big muscles bro". Imagine now you're AMAB balding and nonbinary, or a trans woman who doesn't want to be on hormones.
Just genuinely take the time to look at those forums no matter who you are. Understand what these people go through, what I am currently going through. It is soul-crushing, spiraling, brutal. I have the dream of one day being like Brennan Lee Mulligan or Matt Mercer and starting to lose my hair made me feel like I could never. I felt like and still feel like I would have to be masculine, have to be a bro-y dude, have to look older than I was(I'm fuckin 22). It was the feeling that I could never dress feminine again, never present as a woman when I wanted to again, that I'd always be viewed as a bald guy before anything else.
This is an incredibly vulnerable post for me, and I hope it reaches you all as well in a kind and understanding mood. There's a tendency online for people to joke about baldness, to make fun of it, to treat it as a playfull silly thing but it fucking ruins lives, and it shouldn't. It happens to half the population's sort of bodies and very often. It should just be a neutral thing. You don't need long hair to be feminine, you don't need hair to be feminine. You don't need hair for anything. I guess I'm just saying in general that everyone should be kinder about balding, more understanding, and view it with as much import as they'd view the pixels between this sentence and the next. None at all, I mean.
And for those like me, very feminine guys who wanna keep that and don't want a beard and are terrified of balding, here's some names and I do hope others that see this will add more; Mr. Bruce (also in The Correspondents(band) Alex Ward in LA By Night Jason Carl in LA By Night Cecil Baldwin of Welcome To Night Vale Bob The Drag Queen RuPaul(in looks alone, I know about the whole fracking stuff but this post is about looks) tananasho on instagram Also your mannerisms and style of dress will convey femininity far more than your hair. Yea sure a front-on neutral shot of you may not and maybe you need makeup and stuff, and hell maybe a lot of people might reject you more but it'll just filter down to the people for you.
And to all you artists and writers and creatives; make more bald characters. Try it out. Feminine ones, masculine ones, all sorts. None of the copout nonhuman sort, just dudes and girls and mates and individuals who are all sorts of things and also bald. It might make a few of the people going through the various vortexes of pain that balding causes feel a bit better.
And to those noticing I did not adress female hair loss much here, that was intentional. I am AMAB and currently a nonbinary guy who goes by any pronouns but often likes to present as fem. I learned I was possibly losing my hair and lost two months of my life, no work or going or anything, to male hair loss forums and research and spiraling. Checking my hair twenty times a day, unable to sleep, unable to eat, unable to think. And my situation was NOT unique, but it also did not give me any experience or understanding of female hair loss and what AFAB people may go through with that, so I don't feel knowledgeable enough to speak on it. Also living with baldness WILL get easier and you will find something that works for it, by virtue of simply living with it. Things get easier with time.

Whyâs M3gan Review
I think I'll talk about M3gan. Â The reviews were surprisingly, near unanimously positive for a movie that looked like a familiar light-hearted horror movie that admittedly was rather obvious about how PG-13 it was, so I had my hopes up that it might be different from typical slashers. Â In the end, I feel it was only slightly above average for its genre; not bad, but not quite deserving of such high praise. Â I think what happened is that someone had a great idea for a slasher character but hadn't thought out a worthwhile plot before it was greenlit. Megan as a character is where the movie shines and becomes worthwhile. Â Genna Davis feels perfect in this role, where her voice is balanced between sweet enough to be believable as a caretaker, snarky enough to have an effective sense of humor, and robotic enough to make it all unnerving when paired with her emotionless doll face. Â Considering her singing experience, there were some funny and delightfully uncomfortable scenes where Megan sings as well, sometimes in inappropriate settings, which adds to the entertainment value of the character. Â Every time she was on screen I couldn't help but giggle, partly at the humor she used and how light-heartedly creepy she was in her movements, which I think would definitely freak out people with a notable fear of robots or dolls. Â Her personality is a ton of fun and her kills can be pretty creative, though not particularly frightening, considering it's censored to be PG-13. Â I definitely wanted to see more of her by the end of the film. The humor is pretty decent overall, given that it's intentionally a horror-comedy. Â The opening sequence involving a creepy furby-inspired product causing a deadly crash is hilarious and sets the tone quite well. Â Later, the audience laughed out loud at the movie's singular F-bomb. Â Aside from that and Megan's constant one-liners, unfortunately the jokes tend to be few and far between. Â When the focus was on the aunt and niece, it tended to be serious, which would have been boring if the filmmakers knew we wanted those scenes to go by more quickly, and thus rushed through them. Â I think movies like the Scream series do a better job at this split-genre, but M3gan is pretty fair. The story is so very half-assed, to be frank, that it's really the only thing that makes me hesitant to recommend the movie. Â When characters are introduced, it makes you guess which of them are going to be killed by the robot. Â Some are surprises while some are predictable or outright ham-fisted. Â It seems like they couldn't figure out how to properly write situations that would allow Megan to murder someone, so they made up bizarre excuses that I can't imagine would ever happen in real life. Â I won't go into detail and spoil anything, but so much of what happens is eye-rollingly unbelievable. Â Watching a Youtube summary showcasing her kills and quips might have ended up feeling more natural than what we got. Â There's also a casting issue where a 10-11 year old actress was cast in what was clearly meant to be the role of a 6-7 year old character. Â The actors do their best, but it's uncomfortably weird how blatant this is. I left the film rather satisfied after a moderately cool finale, with allusion to the now-confirmed sequel. Â I would be interested in seeing another M3gan movie, as long as the writing talent is upgraded. Â There's a lot of potential with this character as a series protagonist, maybe kicking off a new wave of slashers if Hollywood gets creative, but it definitely needs a lot of work to get there. Â As for whether I'd recommend it, maybe when it comes to streaming.

random thoughts about strong girl nam soon, episode two
(read more because i always get carried away lol and this post might contain spoilers)
i didnât mention it but i really like the opening song
it might not mean anything to most people but i appreciate the fact that they start the episode with the last scene from the previous episode. helps refresh my memory.
another thing i forgot to mention is how nam soon has good taste in men lol she's a shawol and she likes other kpop idols hehe
nam soon and hee sik are doing such a great job for a first scene together. the close up shots of their faces adds to the fun of that moment. I can't wait to see more of them together
the bitcoin bit had me on the floor. i was literally the man listening to the explanation. went from one ear to the other
kang hee sik dressed as a woman and with a fake baby too
you could feel nam soon's pain of looking for her mother and being involved in so many situations instead. it's starting to wear her down but her knight in shining armor arrives at the right time
cool blurry effect on the camera to mimic nam soon's tears and the romantic music in the back when he asked her if she ate. It's the little details that make this scene even better.
i see nam soon has already started to rub off on kang hee sik. He just repeated what she said to him a few seconds ago and with the same intonation. I think I'm gonna have a blast with these two.
i can't get enough of the comedic scenes in this drama. the little dance hee sik does and nam soon's laser vision getting to see it live lmao she was bewitched by his lack of a*s and dancing skills
the actress playing hwang ja is doing an amazing job because i want her to fail so bad!!!
miss madame hwang geum ju... i need you to stop being so iconic and elegant and fierce and gorgeous. My heart is a little too fragile to handle all of that
the fact that geum ju chose not to follow the dress code for the elite billionaire club thing speaks volumes about who she is. even her little speech, she wants to create a world that is livable for both the rich and less rich people. one thing that has been consistent with her is her consideration for the less fortunate. she lent the money to ms. park, helped her and chased the two men who were selling ms. park dr*gs (censoring just in case). she does know where she comes from and it was obvious with her choice of shoes: sneakers. she shocked the elite and proved that she was on her way to change the world. i really like her character because she doesn't give up and will go through literally anything to reach her goals.
once again, the trailer for next episode makes me want to watch it asap
overall, a good second episode
i hope the next episode will develop both the villains' arc a lot more because i'm left hungry for more scenes and character development. i know we're only in episode two so that's why i'm curious to see where the story will go in future episodes.
i'll rate it a 8.5/10

11 reasons why cap 4 should reintroduce Bucky Barnes as the love interest, an essay
to start this off, i am not writing this essay from a shipping place nor do i believe that this would have any influence at all over the upcoming movie. i expect nothing. this is simply something that i would personally like to see. (of course no hate to anybody who thinks differently)
here are 11 reasons why i think making Bucky into Sam Wilson's love interest in Cap 4 would be a good move for Disney.

1. on the Chinese film market - and why it's an irrelevant argument against the inclusion of homosexual themes in Cap 4
the Chinese film market is something that has been blamed for a lack of diversity in Hollywood films a lot lately. many people claim that this market with a lot of buying power has been responsible for the lack of gay and black representation in particular within Hollywood films.
and we have certainly seen Hollywood treating it as such, going so far as to cut gay scenes from movies for their Chinese releases, and vastly minimising John Boyega's (a black actor's) presence in the Chinese poster of Star Wars The Force Awakens.

so we know at the very least that Disney believes this through their own actions and efforts to self-censor for the different markets.
but Captain America 4 is a black-led movie, don't you forget. and Disney can't minimise Sam Wilson/Anthony Mackie in the movie or the poster because it's his movie and his poster. and no amount of creativity in the editing room can change that (thank God!).
so if by their own argument the film is already going to be either banned, panned or slammed in China... then what do they have to fear from making it a gay movie too?

2. oh, the queerbaiting
queerbaiting is an unusual cultural idea. and sometimes i find myself thinking that the term is far too easily used, but then all of a sudden i will stumble upon a movie or show that is so quintessentially cruel and overt in it's... well... queerbaiting that i will start to wonder what the hell kind of a bizarre relationship all these straight people seem to have with their friends. take Troy and Abed from Community or John and Sherlock from Sherlock as the perfect examples of this. (in which my reaction to the show's creators saying the show wasn't gay was to ask so then why did you make it so gay?!)
i felt that Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in tfatws were getting quite close to this level of queerbaiting.
there was the field scene, the couple's counselling scene, the boat scene, the couple's counselling scene, Bucky going with Sam to face Karli when she told Sam to come alone, the couple's counselling scene, ALL the staring scenes, Sam checking out Bucky's ass here as they said goodbye, the "i would move in with him but" hidden scene, "Uncle Bucky" showing up at the cookout scene, the romantic walking off together into the sunset together ending scene, and the couple's counselling scene. did i forget anything? but i mean seriously, the couple's counselling scene!!! that thing they did with their legs and their crotches while staring deep into each other's eyes, would any straight guy willingly do that? do straight guys crotch-snuggle now?

(yeah i stole this image from a buzzfeed article on the fan reactions to the couple's therapy scene. but given that they stole 80% of the content of that article from fandom tumblr, i think it's pretty even-steven.)
there's also the fact that people started talking about bisexual Bucky Barnes a lot after the tiger pictures line, and the lead writer Malcom Spellman responded to the talk of Bucky's bisexuality with "just keep watching". well we watched, Malcolm. but it's beginning to feel like you were just jerking us around.

3. the writing
seriously though, what else is Bucky Barnes doing right now in the MCU? his only remaining connection to anything going on right now is through Sam. there is literally nothing else established that's left for him to do that doesn't involve Sam. he moved to Louisiana to be closer to Sam (canonically), he hangs out with Sam's family (canonically), and Steve is presumably gone and is definitely not coming back for more adventures.
he has no villains or loose ends left. he has no other superheroes that he appears to be in contact with. he has no girlfriend or potential love interest, or even other friends or family. he is living in a tent that he has secretly set up in Sam's backyard and is mysteriously appearing from the bushes when it's time for dinner like a stray cat.
in my opinion there is no other meaningful and pre-established progression for Bucky's character that wouldn't just feel cheap.
plus, i don't think the general audience would be all that surprised if they kissed. i think a LOT of people picked up on all that tension. i think a lot of straight people picked up on all that tension too.

4. the chemistry between the actors & the chemistry between the characters
the original pitch for tfatws was essentially just this, it was the chemistry between Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie and their respective MCU characters of Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson.
now obviously Anthony and Sebastian are simply friends, and i wouldn't mean to imply anything more. but they are also not their characters.
Sam and Bucky's scenes together before tfatws were both limited and short, and yet audiences still fell in love with the dynamic between the two characters.
in interviews, these two actors are constantly slipping into character and flirting with each other and frankly it's adorable. plus it's really entertaining. i'd love to see that dynamic, unfiltered, in a movie.
because believe it or not the flirting is actually even more open in their interviews than it was in tfatws. and i'm leaving some links as proof.

i'm just saying, why not let their chemistry shine? these two are so talented and so entertaining, especially when you put them in a room together. and can you imagine how absolutely hilarious and brilliant it would be to watch them navigate being a couple?
(and for those who bring up the "friends would be uncomfortable pretending to be dating" argument, i'm not here asking for a sex scene or anything. i don't think anyone would expect them to show any more intimacy (physical or emotional) while playing a couple than what they've already shown together in say... tfatws or in their own interviews. not that i actually expect anything regardless.)

6. and i'm not talking about the comics here, i'm talking about the MCU.
i understand fully that none of what i'm saying here falls in line with these characters from the comics. but the mcu itself doesn't fall much in line with the comics either, and these two characters especially are very different from their comics counterparts.
i'm not asking for these two to get together in the comics. tbh i don't think that it would work.
but the mcu Sam and Bucky are different and closer than their comics counterparts. they've got different histories, different backstories, and a very different dynamic. please rest assured that i am only talking about them in the mcu.

7. Bucky Barnes is believably bisexual. and Sam Wilson has never been proven to be straight in the mcu, nor has he had a love interest.
(now please continue to keep in mind that these points only stand for the mcu versions of Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson, and not at all for their comics counterparts.)
Sam Wilson has never had a love interest, which is crazy because have you seen that man! he has had two blink and you'll miss it moments of verbal expression of attraction to women, both in TWS. and that's the extent of it, through his entire history in the mcu.
Bucky Barnes has had a number of surface-level female love interests, but none of them even came close to the level of connection and chemistry that Bucky shares with Sam.
and i'm sorry SarahBucky fans, but i just don't think there's very much to their relationship either. i love Sarah, i really do. but it's Sam who shares all the meaningful moments and history and chemistry with Bucky. and i don't see what making her into a love interest would do for Sarah's character either, what would that add to her story?

and also there is the whole tiger pictures thing... again. which does strongly suggest that Bucky is bisexual whether this was intentional on behalf of the writers or not.

8. it's representation... AND it feels natural
marvel hasn't had a lot of queer representation that's been noticeably present in the MCU at the time of writing this.
there have been a lot of failures so far, from the bisexual erasure of Valkyrie in Thor Ragnarok to the wlw erasure in Black Panther.
there was queerbaiting almost identical to the bisexual Bucky baiting for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. when asked if he had considered featuring a gay hero in gotg2, director James Gunn stated that "We might have already done that. I say, watch the movie." after the movie's release audiences were understandably confused about the lack of queer representation. To which the director followed up his comments with, "But we don't really know who's gay and who's not. It could be any of them."
there is also Loki, considered by most fans after the airing of his six episode series on Disney+ to be both a poor attempt at both genderfluid representation and bisexual representation. with both attempts being summed up fairly well by the term "blink-and-you'll-miss-it". (also it's just terribly written and Loki doesn't wear any interesting clothes! fanficcers are a Goddamn blessing in this hard time!)
and let us not forget that Andrew Garfield was apparently FIRED for pushing for a bisexual spiderman. a bisexual spiderman within an interracial mlm relationship no less.
so for all these failures, marvel, why not allow us queer fans this? two brilliant and heroic men in a loving interracial relationship. two heroes that we can look up to.
now, one of the biggest detractions from the argument for representation is the idea of "forced diversity". and some poorly written characters certainly do end up feeling forced into the narrative. take Iceman in the comics for example, with Jean Grey just straight up suddenly telling him he's gay. like, marvel, sweetie, that's not how this works! and i don't know a lot of queer people who thought much of that "representation".
but the crux of the "forced diversity" argument is almost always that it feels unnatural within the story, right? and i don't think that anyone could say that about MCU Sam and Bucky ending up together, given these characters' existing chemistry and their history. they've both played characters in gay relationships before so we know that it's not outside of either actor's wheelhouse. and y'all know that Anthony and Seb can act, people. if it's in the script i believe that they'll make it seem like the most natural thing on earth.

9. it'd be a nice change
there's been an ongoing meme lately about "Disney's first gay character", the joke being that they continually announce gay characters without really ever including gay characters in their films.
this is to the point where Disney has formed a reputation amongst queer audiences of being homophobic.
if Sam and Bucky were to become a couple, then Disney could have its first actual gay character within a gay relationship. AND have him be in the lead of his own movie, no less.
it's also worth keeping in mind that there's likely an overlap between the people who were outraged by a Sam Wilson Captain America, and the people who'd be outraged by a gay Captain America. and if they were already not seeing the film, then i don't think much is gonna change that.
queer audiences would definitely love it, and the media attention would be guaranteed to be huge. i mean, simply look at the amount of media attention mere rumours of a character's queerness gets you and multiply that by a canon confirmation of said rumours.
but i'm pretty sure that Disney already knows this.

10. and yet, in truth, it's not about the representation
in truth i've never felt that i had any trouble relating to characters of any sexual orientation, race, gender, sex, body type, etc. (although that is not to throw any shade at all on people who do wish to see themselves represented) but for me, i think it's more about the story than the packaging.
and yet, a love story is still just a story. straight or queer, monoethnic or interracial. when two characters have chemistry and history and have sacrificed for each other time and time again, and they also can't keep their hands or their eyes off each other, then i'm pretty sure that that's a love story.
straight or queer, monoethnic or interracial, it shouldn't be about these simple labels. it should be about how well written the relationship is. it should be about chemistry, and history, and sacrifice.
because i'm fucking sick of all the hollow, forced romances in media no matter the genders of the participants. i'm sick of lazily written, shallow relationships where any two people sharing the same space for any extended period of time will simply fall in love. it's boring, it's repetitive, and as a writer myself it drives me up the wall!
romance stories suck! and everyone knows that romance stories suck. between twilight, and most of the entire YA genre, and love triangles (so boring), and romance used as poorly-written throwaway subplots in Hollywood movies, the world is in agreement that the romance in western media is simply dreadful. and yet we still want love stories. it's an entire genre that sits at the heart of the human experience (<3), and yet one which so few of today's best known writers seem truly able to capture.
i don't think that i'm the only one who feels this way, either. i suspect it's actually a large part of why fandom is so romance-centred in the first place, that we're all just starving for a good love story.
(btw i think fandom has a reputation for being something that as a whole that it is not. it has this reputation for straight up demanding things and harassing people until they get their way. while unfortunately there are a few people who do this, they're fucking annoying and i swear that they're far from the majority.
in my experience fandom is mostly about writing a five thousand word story at three am while drunk off your ass because it might make someone whom you've never met smile, editing it in the cold light of day, and then posting it. expecting nothing. sometimes getting nothing. and sometimes getting someone send you kudos or a comment so heartbreakingly wonderful that it makes you smile in return.)

11. so once again, it is all about the writing.
i want to see Sam and Bucky get together in the mcu, not because they would be a gay couple but because i genuinely believe that their story has potential to be an amazing love story.
and i know the mcu isn't about the romance. it's why in my personal opinion we haven't gotten a lot of good canon romances besides Peter Quill and Gamora. and i don't think that the mcu should be all about the romance either. i fucking love the action and the fighting scenes. i love the comedy. Captain America: The Winter Soldier had no romance and it was a fucking treasure, it was an amazing spy-action-thriller and it made my little gay heart dance. Thor Ragnarok had no romance, and it was an utterly brilliant comedic spectacle action film. not every movie needs romance.
but mcu Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes were doing couple's therapy and fixing a boat and walking off into the sunset together in tfatws. they were inseparable on the battlefield. they've got a dynamic. it's beautiful, it's romantic, and it's gold.
a budding relationship between them in the next movie would be a good way to explore both characters more without the narrative feeling too stilted and separate. at the end of tfatws, both Sam and Bucky fans found that their respective fave felt somewhat underutilised and that their characters were underexplored.
now, that problem would be even more difficult to remedy in a movie, because the plotline of a movie needs to be really tight to work (giggity). and we know that the central conflict of the movie is gonna be action-based (which is good), but we still need each character's personal journey and growth to tie into the main conflict. (which is another issue that some fans found with tfatws, that these characters didn't really feel connected to the action-based plot on a more personal level.)
if Sam and Bucky are already in a relationship, however, this whole dynamic changes. first, their relationship has already been set up for nicely since TWS and through tfatws and they would officially be the best-fleshed-out couple in the mcu. but most importantly, a relationship gives them a perfect vehicle to explore both of their pasts comparatively and connect them personally to the action-based plot.
do you want to establish that Sam is a little too trusting and naĂŻve? then establish this through his relationship with Bucky, and through showing his placing his trust in Bucky. (rather than through having him sympathise with a villain who threatened to murder his sister and his nephews).
perhaps you want to show Bucky recovering from his trauma? show us how comfortable he is with Sam. they get along, they're enjoying each other's presence, we see more of Sam's life and of his family, and then let Bucky tell Sam something that's raw and dark and honest about his life as The Winter Soldier. something about a memory, one that he only just recalled. he's opening up. and maybe what he tells Sam is even something that sets up the future action-based conflict, to ground that in something real.
you want to explore that Sam has trauma too? do this through Bucky. he tells Bucky a story about his time in the military. in the form of a flashback, he shares his own story of loss to evoke before the audience the shared theme of feeling at fault even when you're simply a helpless bystander to an act of pure destruction.
then, action sequence! and it's directly connected to Bucky's time as the Winter Soldier. explore the grief of someone whose life the Winter Soldier tore apart manifesting into a villain perpetuating the cycle of pain. establish your villain.
Later, Sam is dragged into battle against this villain for protecting Bucky. But Bucky doesn't want Sam to protect him. He feels guilt for what he can't control and he doesn't want Sam getting hurt because of him. Bucky reminds Sam that he has a family, one who needs him and who loves him. He tells him to go home.
Sam reminds Bucky that he's a part of that family. And that sure Sam's a hero and his job is to protect anyone and everyone, but that he's doing it because he wants to. It's not simply to prove that he can, or to prove that he's not a bystander (this connects to Sam's trauma here), but that he's doing it to help people.
and this gets Bucky thinking about who he is and what he's doing here. is he a hero who stands by Sam's side? or is he an ordinary man who stands aside? or perhaps, does he stand alone? what does he stand for? Maybe Sam knows. But does Bucky?
Sam and Bucky fight off the villain again, and for the first time Bucky meets this adversary face to face. And Bucky recognises this villain, and has a flashback to the genuine pain that he inflicted upon them in the form of the Winter Soldier. Bucky freezes mid-fight, he almost dies, and Sam has to save him.
Sam chews Bucky out for almost getting killed because he was afraid for him. but Bucky takes this the wrong way and goes off to fight the villain alone, or perhaps to die alone, he's not quite sure.
He puts up a half-hearted fight. He apologises for what the Winter Soldier has done, and he waits for the killing blow, when Sam swoops down and he saves him. He asks Sam why he saved him and Sam calls him a moron. And then, Sam asks him what sacrificing himself would solve. He tells him that you can't choose your past but you can choose your future (connecting to his own experience of loss and guilt and grief). And that no matter what Bucky Barnes still has a future, whether that's as the Winter Soldier or the White Wolf or just some dork with a day job. And that he has a future as a part of Sam's family too.
Sam fights the villain, and it's toe to toe. He delivers a few good blows, but receives a fair few himself. And then the villain tears off his wings, first one and then the other, in a manner reminiscent of what the Winter Soldier did to him in TWS. Through Bucky's eyes there's a flashback to highlight the parallels. Sam gets back on his feet and he fights his best fight, but is now losing.
And then the heavily injured Bucky steps up and fights by Sam's side, and only together do they take down the villain.
"So... I inspired you, huh?" Sam teases with a smile, utterly exhausted. "With my heroism and-"
"You inspired me." Bucky said, equally exhausted. "Let's leave it at that."
Together, Sam and Bucky go back to the safety and warmth of their family. Sam fixes his wings. Sam goes back to being Captain America. And Bucky... he's around, but it's unclear what he's doing.
That is, until the very end. When Sam is in a fight, and suddenly Bucky shows up and helps him out.
"What are you doing here?" Sam asks.
"I've made up my mind." Bucky says. "I'm the Winter Soldier. But now I'll save lives, Sam. Now, like you, I'll be a hero."
Sam smirks. "So does this make you my sidekick, then?"
Bucky smiles. "C'mon, at least make me a partner." He says.
"How about co-workers." Sam says (in flashback, he remembers back to the death of his last on-the-job partner).
"How about friends." Bucky says, with a wry look.
"Bucky... I don't want to see you put your dumbass self in danger." Sam says.
"Oh, and it's ok for you to go running off into danger on your own all the time?" Bucky asks.
"Yes." Sam says stubbornly. "Absolutely it is."
"Why?"
"Because I'm not a dumbass?!"
"Sam, if you think I'm not gonna be watching your back for the rest of time... then you're the biggest dumbass I know. And I don't care if you need me or not, I will be there for you."
"Because Sam, you're more than Captain America. You're more than a good soldier. You're a good man. And I think sometimes, the world forgets what the difference is."

(i only spent like 15 minutes on that. you know if i were actually writing this movie i would come up with something much better. and if anyone from marvel is seeing this, yes i can come work for you. i will make the time, let's do this thing right!)

at the end of the day, whether or not the mcu chooses to make Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes a couple, it's their decision. and they don't owe me anything.

Logan's Invention Trouble
Logan had created a new machine that could grip and tickle you if you step up to it. But, faulty wiring leads to Logan getting stuck in his own invention! And due to an unlucky break, Logan has to rely on some not-so-reliable people to save him from his own foolishness.
This fanfic was suggested by @gamequeenanya. I hope you enjoy, Violet!
His new invention had been a wonderful success. He had tested it on a dummy, and had tested it on the air to see the controls without a person in the machine. To Loganâs happiness, it worked like a gem. Logan had originally set it up to be button activated. However, that was only for the testing. So, Logan decided to make it motion controlled instead, to guarantee a surprise for everyone that walked into it.
After finishing up the motion sensor, Logan threw the dummy down in front of the machine. Quickly, many pairs of hands gathered the dummyâs hands and feet, and started doing its expected thing. Logan smiled at his own success and clicked the button to shut it down. Slowly, the hands slowed down to a stop and let the dummy go.
He planned to gather the dummy. But before he got even remotely close, Logan had switched the motion sensor off so that he didnât end up caught in the machine.
HoweverâŠ
Logan didnât really know this, but the wiring had been done incorrectly, making the button completely useless. The button didnât shut off the motion sensor. If anything, it alerted the sensor that something was gonna be coming to it very soon.
Confident that the button had turned it off however, Logan walked up to the machine to retrieve the dummy.
Suddenly, the machine grabbed Loganâs hands! Logan yelped the moment his hand was grabbed, and immediately made the realization that the button was faulty! It was way too late for that though, and Loganâs bodily functions took over as about 15 hands tickled his armpits, sides, ribs, belly, feet, back of the knees, and the shoulderblades.
OH NO!
âGAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OHOHOHOHO GEHEHEHEHEEEZ! WHAHAHAT HAHAHAHAPPEHEHEHENED?!â Logan asked.
Logan realized something even worse than the tickles:
Logan hadnât added a proper timer to the machine yet! He had planned to add the timer after he had gathered the dummy!
That means that the machine was gonna tickle tickle tickle him forever! Or, until someone clicks the button that he had foolishly dropped during the attack! And the other unfortunate part, was that the remote was JUST out of reach of his foot! But the hand that had grabbed his foot, would automatically lift his foot back into position if he even tried to reach out to click it!
The only way heâd ever get out, will involve getting one of the sides to help him out!
This was a nightmare come true! Or...Well, Logan would say a mixed emotion-kinda dream. It was a nightmare in how he was gonna get out, but it was a dream that Logan could experience the machine first hand.
âAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HEHEHEHEHELP! SOHOHOMEOHOHONE!â Logan called.
This was gonna be so embarrassing to explain...But dammit all, Logan needed out!
Logan looked around and tried to get out himself. But each time he would pull on the restraints, the hands nearby would tickle harder for a few seconds each, to further weaken him! Logan knew this was a thing that came with installing the motion sensor...He knew that he added this due to his intense ler mood...But this just gave fuel to the fire!
Logan growled as he felt powerless against his own machine. What a joke...Of course the inventor will get stuck in his own invention! Itâs bound to happen! But this is just too much!
Finally, after what felt like hours, someone followed his laughter to the laboratory.
âLogan? Are you...laughing?!â Someone asked.
âHEHEHEHELP MEEEEHEHEHEHE!â Logan begged.
The person peeked his head in and widened his eyes. âHoly Zeus...What is thihihis?!â The person asked.
As you could tell by the reaction, this intruder was Roman.
âHEHEHEHELP! IHIHIHIâM STUHUHUHUHUCK!â Logan shouted to him.
âIhihi can tehehell!â Roman reacted, giggling. âWhat in the name of Peter Pan did you get yourself stuck in?!â Roman asked.
âIHIHITâS AHAHA MAHAHACHIHIHINE! PLEHEHEHEASE HEHEHELP!â Logan begged.
âWell...How do I turn it off?â Roman asked.
âBUHUHUTTON! BEHEHELOHOHOW MYHYHY FEHEHEHEET!â Logan replied, pointing to the remote that laid on the floor.
Roman looked up and immediately noticed the cameras. âUh oh...Itâs motion censored?!â Roman reacted. âNow why would you make a tickling machine motion sensored?â Roman asked.
âSHUHUHUT UHUHUP AHAHAND GEHEHET MEHEHE OHOHOUT!â Logan begged.
Roman gasped and grabbed the remote. But he didnât press the button...not yet.
âNow you listen here, you son of a sword! You, as the damsel in distress, are relying on me, the hero, to save you from the eeeevil tickle machine of your own invention!â Roman explained. âPerhaps you should treat the hero with a little more respect?â Roman asked.
âJUHUHUST PREHEHESS IHIHIHIT!â Logan begged.
âNo way! Not yet. I wanna hear more of your cute little laughter.â Roman told him.
Out of all the people to call his heroâŠ
Logan tried to get out himself, but winded up causing the hands at his feet to tickle more. âeeEEEEEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! NAHAHAHAT THEHEHE TOHOHOHOES!â ogan begged helplessly. âPLEHEHEHEASE! IHIHIHIHIâM SAHAHAHARRYHYHYHY!â Logan told him.
He was gonna need some wine after heâs done thisâŠ
Roman smiled at the apology and clicked the button. Slowly, the hands started to slow down and stopped tickling the man.
Logan let out a long breath of relief and gasped for air while the hands lowered him down and let go. âTh...Thank you.â Logan told him.
Roman nodded in response and immediately noticed a button that was labelled on the remote:

Roman smiled and clicked the button.
Quickly, the hands grabbed Loganâs hands, feet and torso, and held him up again. âeeEEK! Um...What are you doing?â Logan asked.
âTell me: Why did you create an invention for tickling people?â Roman asked.
Logan face blushed almost immediately after hearing that word. âUuuuuuh...WellâŠâ Logan mumbled.
âWelll???â Roman teased. âA little reminder that I have the remote~â Roman added.
Logan growled and pulled on his hands. âJust let me out, you mischievous beast!â Logan shot back.
âOoooh! Refusing to reply to my message? And calling me names?!â Roman reacted.
Roman clicked a couple buttons on the remote. âYou just earned yourself some more feet tickles, sir.â Roman decided.
Logan squealed as the hands touched his feet and started tickling. But not just any hands...Romanâs hands! Roman had knelt down and started tickling Loganâs sensitive feet! Logan giggled at the tickles and laughed as the inner arch, the balls of his foot and the heels were tickled bit by bit.
âRohohohoho cohohome ohohohon! Whyhyhyhy?â Logan asked.
Roman smiled. âWhy did you make the tickle machine?â Roman asked. âI know youâre hiding something.â
Logan refused to answer. âIhihihiâm nahahahat tehehellihihing yohohohou!â Logan shot back.
âOh? And why is that?â Roman asked.
âNohohone ohohof yohohohour beeeheheheezwahahahax!â Logan replied confidently.
âOooooh! Looks like Iâm gonna keep on tickle tickle tickling you then!â Roman decided.
Roman had moved up to Loganâs kneecaps, when someone else walked in.
âOh? Whatâs this?â someone asked.
Roman turned around and brightened up. âHello little stormcloud! You just caught me in the middle of a ticklish interrogation! Logan got himself stuck in this machine he made, and Iâm trying to find out why he made it.â Roman explained to the man.
As you could tell by the nickname, the third person who walked into the room was Virgil.
âOh? Huh...What have you found out so far?â Virgil asked, growing curious.
âNone of your beeswax, was Loganâs sacred answer. So, I guess I have to keep going till he answers me.â Roman replied.
Virgil chuckled. âMind if I have that remote?â Virgil asked.
Roman nodded. âSure! Thankfully, all the remote buttons are labeled, so itâs fairly easy to figure out how they work.â Roman explained.
âLooks like it. I see I can choose the amount of hands I want to tickle Logan.â Virgil explained. âHow about...2 to start? And...On the hips.â Virgil decided.
Virgil clicked the buttons [2] and [HIPS], and watched as the fingers squeezed and tweaked Loganâs hips.
Loganâs laughter grew a little louder as he laughed, and grew higher in octave as well. âVEEEEHEHEHEHEHEHE! MEHEHERCYYYHYHYHYHY!â Logan pleaded.
âAre you gonna tell us? Tell us the reason behind such a funny invention?â Virgil asked.
âNOHOHO! IHIHITâS EHEHEMBARASSIHIHIHING!â Logan told them.
âWe donât care. Weâre not gonna tell.â Virgil told him. âThe only person we might tell is Patton. But thatâs only because heâd love to hear it.â Virgil added.
Logan mentally sighed. He really had to tell them, or else he wouldnât be freed. Logan finally gave in.
âOHOHOKAHAHAY FIHIHIHINE! IHIHIâLL TEHEHEHELL YOHOHOU!â Logan told them.
âPromise?â Roman asked.
âYEHEHEHES! IHIHI PROHOHOMISE!â Logan replied desperately.
Roman smiled confidently and stopped tickling. Virgil also smiled and clicked the [STOP] button to stop the machine.
The machine took a moment or two to slow itself down, before letting the Logical side go. Logan sighed and breathed somewhat heavily to recuperate his lungs. Logan found his lungs to be heavy after being tickled so much.
Logan soon looked at Virgil and Roman. Roman was holding a bottle of water for him, while Virgil was holding a wet cold wash cloth for him. Logan smiled and happily took both items. Logan took a drink of water to help his throat, and dabbed off his face with the washcloth to help cool down. âThank you, you two. I appreciate the care.â Logan told them.
âNo problem.â Virgil replied.
âYou gonna tell us now?â Roman asked.
Logan almost choked on his water. Damn...He forgot he had to tell the boys about why he made the invention.
Logan cleared his throat and put the lid onto his water bottle. âWellâŠâ Logan took a moment. âI find that I have been growing more and more touch starved. Basically, I miss being touched, loved, and...tickled. So...I thought I could create a device that gives me what I desire for 5-10 minutes if I need it.â Logan told them.
Roman was about to cry. âAwwww, you poor being! I had no idea you felt that way!â Roman walked up and gave him a hug. âSacred Wilbur, I would be dying if I were in your shoes.â Roman admitted.
Logan took the hug rather awkwardly, and looked to Virgil.
âI understand where youâre coming from. But, I didnât expect...this to be a solution you would go for.â Virgil admitted. âYou mustâve been desperate.â
Roman giggled. âI see you made a dummy of Thomasâs little Orange side.â Roman teased, showing him the somewhat decently made dummy.
Logan chuckled. âI think he deserves some love.â Logan admitted.
âAgreed.â Roman replied.
Virgil walked himself closer to the machine.
âVIRGIL WAIT-â
Virgil stopped, and yelped as the machine gathered Virgilâs arms and legs into the handsâ grip, and started tickling the key spots that Logan recommended it go for.
Logan bit his lip. âI...Forgot to mention that the machine is now motion sensoredâŠâ Logan admitted as he picked up the remote.
âWHOHOHOHOHOAHAHAHAHAHA! IHIHIHITâS SOHOHOHO EHEHEHEFFEHEHECTIVE!â Virgil reacted.
âYeah, sorry about that.â Logan told him as he clicked the [STOP] button. âI need to program a timer into the machine to let people got after 10 minutes or so...And I need to fix the [MC OFF] button.â Logan admitted.
Virgil was a giggly mess as he was let go. Noticing Virgil enjoyed it too, Logan clicked a couple buttons on the remote. The hands moved up to Virgilâs sides, and started to tickle and skitter.
Virgil squeaked and giggled helplessly, wiggling around and liking some of the tickles it offered.
âThihihihis ihihis fuhuhuhun!â Virgil admitted.
âOh oh oh! I wanna try!â Roman admitted, running to the camera. The sensor sensed Roman immediately, and eagerly watched as the machine gathered Roman into a little grip and started attacking his armpits, feet, and belly.
Logan widened his eyes. He did not know that the machine could tickle two people at once! Roman was lucky he didnât get caught in the machine earlierâŠ
And so...Virgil, Roman and Logan all enjoyed the machine...And before Logan could get the timer installed, they always made sure that someone had the remote.
Otherwise they would be stuck in the tickle machine foreverâŠ

Concepts in Action (Glee)
Follow-up to Concepts of Insanity, spawned by a talk with @jwmelmoth
Slighty different mood than that one, but same base principle.
Returning to the loft after skating should be a relief after the awkwardness of doing such a loaded activity with his ex. Except it doesn't feel that good, and he's got some uncomfortable suspicions regarding Blaine's backpack.
âSo, dad. You brought Blaine. Exactly when's his ticket back?â
âDay after tomorrow, same as mine.â
âRight. And where is he staying?â
âWell...â His dad's facial expression answers that question in a way that makes Kurt's heart sink.
Fan.Tast.Ic.
âSo when you said I could return my present if I wanted to, exactly how was that supposed to work? It isn't, is it? I'm stuck with him whether I want to or not.â
âKurt!â
His dad's voice is full of surprise and a bit of censor, but Kurt isn't going to let that influence him. His dad's crossed a line, and Kurt's not going to pretend otherwise.
âRemember the first Christmas after mom passed away? How you sat me down and apologized for my presents, before I'd even opened them, because you just weren't good at buying gifts? And remember how I told you that anything you'd gotten me would be perfect, because it was from you and I loved you? Yes?
âOkay. I still love you, but I'm taking the rest of that back. You coming here to tell me you have cancer was bad enough. Finding out you consider my ex an acceptable 'gift' for Christmas goes from bad to really shitty, and I don't know what you were thinking. Especially seeing as apparently you felt it was okay to tell him about your cancer before telling me.â
âI didn't want you to be alone.â
Kurt just stares, unable to process.
âI have cancer, and I knew you'd have a hard time to deal. I brought Blaine because I figured you'd need the support, the comfort.â
âAnd you brought my ex for that?â
Then again, support wasn't Blaine's strongest suit even when we were together, was it?
âHey, you're the one who told me he wasn't just your boyfriend, he was your best friend too.â
âYes, but that was beforeâ he cheated on me âwe broke up.â
His dad still doesn't seem to get it and Kurt can't take it.
âYou know what, I need some air. I'm going to take a walk. You stay here, make sure Blaine stays out of my bedroom.â
Kurt starts out with going around the block, but he's still upset after and takes another loop, this time longer. It takes half an hour for him to feel ready to go back inside and deal.
Sitting on the couch with his dad and Blaine as they watch baseball is annoying as hell. Any other time, he'd take the closeness and read Vogue, especially now that his dad has admitted to knowing about it. But with Blaine actually watching and interacting with his dad about the game Kurt feels uncomfortable not doing the same. So he tries. Once he gives up and reaches for his magazine he heard his dad and Blaine joke about having bet about how long he'd hold out.
And then the next hit comes.
âSo, Kurt, I know that this might be a bit weird for you, and you can totally say no if you want to,â sure, just like I could return the 'gift' of your presence, â but I'm applying to NYADA for next year.â
Kurt sighs silently. Of course he is. The thing is, he can see it, the way Blaine probably assumes it'll play out. Blaine moving to New York, going to NYADA, buddying up to Rachel just like in high school... Kurt being expected to just take it, regardless of if he had been accepted or not. Any contacts Kurt might have gotten supposed to be at Blaine's beck and call, Blaine talking his way into Kurt's classes trying to replace him, like he had in Glee and with Cheerios... Kurt bending over backwards to make Blaine happy, just like in high school.
Because there would never be a chance of him being allowed to continue to say no to Blaine with them at the same school.
Thank god that's not going to happen.
And really, what was Blaine trying to do here? Pretending that Kurt's opinion mattered? The time for that would have been months ago, before applying.
âOh really? You know what, I think NYADA might be perfect for you.â Not in terms of actual schooling, maybe, as Kurt's had the blinds torn off regarding Blaine's talent, but for the rest... He imagines Carmen Tibideaux subjecting Blaine to some of her special treatment. The definition of Karma, surely.
âReally?â
âOh yeah. From everything I've heard you'd get along really well with the dean, and well, Rachel seems to thrive. Good luck.â
With no encouragement to keep talking about NYADA Blaine wanders off to grab something to drink and Kurt refocuses on his dad, trying to squeeze out as much of this visit as possible.
âHey Kurt? What does NUY want with you?â
Kurt turns his head so fast it feels like he's in danger of whiplash.
âAre you going through my mail? Stop it!â
The words come out hard and he can see both his dad and Blaine react. He doesn't care though.
âYou know, you going through my personal things wasn't cute when we dated either. Back then I just cared more about keeping the peace than about keeping my privacy. Since that's not a problem anymore, let me just be clear. I might be allowing you to stay here, but that's not an invitation in any way. Not to snooping, not to feeling at home, and not to getting back together.
âThis is my home, and you are â putting it kindly â a guest. Behave with the decency I know your mom expects of you. If you can't do that then leave.â
He wishes Blaine would, but knows it's not likely.
âBuddy...â
âKurt! You can't mean that you'd throw me out. Where would I go?â
Blaine looks like Kurt has done the verbal equivalent of throwing a bucket of ice water in his face. It has no effect on Kurt's resolve though.
âI neither know nor care. You either respect my home or you don't stay in it. This is New York. There are thousands of hotels and hostels.â
His dad just stares at him, as if he doesn't know who Kurt is anymore, and it hurts. Out of all the people liking Blaine better than him Kurt had never figured his dad would be one. And yet here he was, feeling the same way as he'd once felt with Finn.
âBuddy, you're being a bit harsh here, don't you think? Yes, I'll admit that maybe bringing Blaine without warning you was a little...impulsive, but why are you so angry? And don't be so hardnosed about getting back together, for your own sake.
âLike I said earlier, love's important. Holding on to love is important. I don't want you to throw away what you and Blaine have, not when you never know what will happen, or how long you'll have that opportunity. It's a cruel world, Kurt, but having someone to share with makes it better.â
Kurt takes a deep breath and tries, really really tries to keep his bitterness in. He's not doing that great a job.
âHolding on to love is important, sure. But there's such a thing as holding on too long and too hard. Blaine and I broke up for good reasons, and I wish you'd respect that.â
It's like his dad isn't even hearing him though.
âYou know, your mom and I found it hard being apart too.â
Kurt did know. As a kid he'd loved hearing about his mom's semester in France, and he'd been told enough to know that it'd been tough. He'd read some of their letters to each other though, and he doubts either of them dealt the way Blaine did.
âSo? Yes, being apart is hard. But that isn't an excuse for everything. I didn't want to get you involved in all of this, but since that's obviously not going to be an option anymore, fine. Blaine cheated. He felt I didn't pay enough attention to him, you know, between finding a job and a place to stay, and making enough money to pay the bills, and generally trying to make myself a life here after he practically pushed me to go here.
âAnd so he went and found someone else to give him that attention.â
He practically spits out the last sentence. It feels good to finally allow himself to say it, but the look on his dad's face doesn't feel as good.
If he was less angry maybe he'd be able to stop himself, worry about his dad's heart. But the anger's been simmering too long for that.
âThat's why we broke up, and that's why I find the idea of getting back together objectionable. And you can talk about holding on to love until you're blue in the face, but I'm not the one who needs that lecture.â
He swallows down the lump in his throat, but goes on.
âAs for the rest of it, are you seriously suggesting I take back my cheating boyfriend because that's better than being alone? Or because I don't know how long I'll live? Because if you are... What's next, dad? Telling me I should marry him because you and mom didn't get enough time together?
âIf any of those things are going through your head you are also welcome to leave. I'll never not welcome you in my home, dad, but I need you to respect me. I need you to not act like you're putting someone else's son above yours.â
That's a warning that hits the target, and it's obvious that Burt Hummel remembers a row of uncomfortable talks about Finn. He deflects by turning on Blaine though.
âYou...â
âNo, dad. It is over and done with. Leave him be. Just... Just leave it alone. I don't want to take anymore fighting. Please?â
They stare at each other and for a while Kurt wonders if he should have done as he normally does and just backed down. Swallowed down his hurt and anger and frustration, kept quiet about the injustices done to him, and just pretended to be okay. Tried to not upset his dad, and risk his health.
Except he's done that for years, and it's clearly not working. His dad's health has failed again, with the cancer â and no matter how good the prognosis, or the treatments available, a cancer diagnosis is a health failure. Plus his dad is trying to fix him and Blaine, out of some misguided idea that they're going to be the next Burt-and-Lizzie, and he never would have done that if Kurt'd been honest about the cheating instead of blaming distance.
At least Kurt hopes he wouldn't.
âSometimes, dad, first loves end. They end because of death, or because they're not meant to last, or because of something else. And then you meet someone else, and they make your life amazing. I'm not going to deprive myself of that by holding on to something that's ended. Just like you didn't. You found love again. I will too.
âI just need to be allowed to do so.â
They keep staring at each other, and then his dad nods. Kurt can't help it, he throws himself in his dad's arms, with tears already beginning to fall.
As they hug Kurt hear Blaine muttering in the background about finding a hotel, but he doesn't care. The door to the loft closing feels like it's closing on him and Blaine too, and it's such a relief.
After several minutes they let go. Both need to remove traces of crying, but that's good.
Once they're seated again Kurt searches for something to talk about, but his dad beats him to it.
âSo, NYU? Or should I pretend I didn't hear that?â
âNo! I have been thinking about things, about school, and I was an idiot for not applying to more schools last year. So, I did some research and then I did something about it. I've applied to half a dozen schools, and I've already been accepted to one for the fall semester. I don't know if there's any school willing to take me for the spring, but if there's not I'll just keep working and try to save up money.â
âAnd what about NYADA?â
There's no judgment in his dad's voice, and Kurt smiles as he tries to describe the situation diplomatically.
âIt's...not looking as good in my research as I thought, so while I did reapply there I'm not sure I want to go there. I really shouldn't have listened to Rachel last year, because as it turns out? NYADA actually isn't the most prestigious school for performing arts, and it's probably not even the best for me. I guess we were both a little starstruck, you know?â
The game is back on, but they ignore it and talk, and it's everything Kurt would have wanted.

Months later as classes start up Kurt receives voicemail after voicemail about Blaine starting at NYADA, about how bad it is that Kurt's not been accepted, about them meeting up. Kurt ignores them as he did the calls and walks into vogue.com with a smile.
He doesn't feel the least bad about not getting in. Hell, he didn't even apply for the fall semester.
No, Kurt's happy where he is, with his job at vogue.com, a spot at the New School and a couple of scholarships helping pay the way. Oh, and a new boyfriend, which also contributes to his happiness.
Turns out? Acting in new ways can get you new and rewarding results. All you got to do is try.

Seen these ads? (Obey Me! Review)
This is a visual novel/otome/gacha card RPG game with the same characters and themes as featured in the ads.
As stated in many of the ads this game centers around seven demon brother love interests (as well as some other potential love interests) although the game has a lot of plot elements other than just romance. Most of the ads that Iâve seen feature real art that appears in the game one way or another, and the ads tend to be focused more on the characters and theme in general rather than specific gameplay. Of the ads that do appear to show gameplay, most of the time itâs not really what youâll see in the game but still follows fairly close to the actual game (for example, the âkiss, free, whipâ ad on the top left doesnât show real gameplay, but you can kiss or whip that character. But that specific art comes from a gacha card I believe and isnât what you see when you do the kissing and whipping).
A few notes before I get into the full review:
Iâm a lesbian, so Iâm definitely not the target audience for this game, but I always try to be objective and open-minded when playing any game Iâm not the target audience for (other examples Iâve reviewed in the past are Moments, which was also primarily targeted toward women who are attracted to men, Immortal Taoists, which involved a genre I had never heard of before and really had no interest in, Time Princess, which also wasnât my favorite genre but was still a great game, and various Genius Inc. visual novels, which are targeted more toward high-school age boys as far as I can tell).
Speaking of lesbians, this game weirdly censors the word âlesbiansâ but not any other LGBTQ+ terms (that donât include the word âsexualâ) as far as I can tell; I decided it was enough of a one-off thing that it wouldnât factor a huge amount in my overall review of the game, but I think itâs still something to take note of and not let off the hook since it definitely shows bias and can be offensive to players.
This game is rated 12+ on the Apple App Store, and I was pretty harsh on Crush Crush for being rated that way because I thought it crossed the line with some of its sexually suggestive content. I kept that in mind while playing this one, and personally I donât think it crossed the line in the same way, at least not from what Iâve played so far; although it does have sexually suggestive content (most often when interacting with the character Asmodeus, who is literally known in the game as the âAvatar of Lustâ), itâs much more occasional through tidbits of dialog as opposed to in Crush Crush where it involved a whole section of the game and was more interactive in nature. I would definitely still cringe at the thought of a 12-year-old reading some of this dialog, but I think it fits fairly within the App Store descriptors of âInfrequent/Mild Sexual Content and Nudityâ and âInfrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes.â
Last note - there is a character in this game (Luke) who has the appearance and demeanor of a small child who you can interact with in a similar way to the other love interest characters, which concerned me for obvious reasons. I looked more into this, specifically reading into all of the different dialog options involving this character, and his responses never seem to be more than platonic, which is good. He still blushes when you give him gifts and stuff, which is kind of awkward, and it seems weird to throw a kid character into an otome game, but all considered I wouldnât say the game is promoting anything inappropriate (unlike one of the Genius VNs that clearly involved relationships between an adult and minors).
Sorry I know thatâs a lot of notes and disclaimers but I just wanted to that all out of the way as general concerns anyone might have trying this game or reading this review!

(Iâm trying a new color-coding system to help highlight some of the main points of my review if you donât want to read my entire essay word-for-word lol. Pink is a positive aspect of the game, red is a negative aspect/criticism and purple is not necessarily positive or negative but just something I wanted to highlight.)
đ Is the game actually fun? Yes! Just in terms of production value, this game is top notch: the art and character designs are very appealing, the transitions between charactersâ poses and facial expressions during VN scenes are actually animated (which looks much smoother and more natural than switching between still images), the voice acting is great (although the VN scenes arenât fully voice acted, some parts like phone calls are and the characters say different phrases during scenes and battles as well)(Note: all the voice acting is Japanese), and the music is FANTASTIC and perfectly sets the vibe throughout the game.
The best parts of this game in my opinion are the different personalities of the characters and the overall plot; although some of the charactersâ personalities can be a bit one-note at times (for example, one characterâs entire personality that Iâve seen so far is that he likes to eat and is always hungry), the characters each have their own charm and play off each other well. I found myself getting invested in each of the charactersâ desires and goals throughout the story, even the characters I didnât particularly like. The story is also chock full of humor which is always fun, and the whole world and backstory built around this game (the âDevildomâ setting and the idea of an exchange student program with angels, humans and demons) are also unique and impressive.
I really enjoyed the multiple modes of storytelling i.e. how the VN chapters are supplemented with text messages and phone calls from characters and an Instagram spoof with additional side stories to unlock. I know this isnât a new thing in mobile games (even Gardenscapes and Homescapes do it to an extent lol) but add the compelling characters and overall production value on top and itâs a really enjoyable experience. Since the home screen of the game is set up like itâs your phone, with the different parts of the game represented as âapps,â the game kind of creates a feeling like youâre really living in this world with these characters where you can freely scroll through their Instagram feeds and check the messages you get from them on your own time. The shop where you can buy items and premium currency is called Akuzon (an Amazon spoof) and the place where all your gacha cards are is called âcontacts,â which further adds to the immersive effect.
The âdatingâ part of the game is pretty cute although I havenât gotten super far so Iâm not sure of the full scope of the romantic interactions. From what I can tell, in addition to the dialog, blushy faces and bedroom eyes you get from characters when you give them gifts and touch different parts of their body (above the belt lol), when you raise your intimacy level with them you get additional phone calls and messages from them (I havenât played a lot of otome games but I think thatâs how a lot of them go). I wasnât that invested in this part of the game but I think thereâs some strategy that goes with using the right combination of gifts and touches to maximize intimacy boosts and get certain dialog, which adds a whole other aspect of gameplay in addition to the main game. I also noticed that occasionally your choices throughout the VN chapters will give you a small intimacy boost with a certain character; I kind of wish this was even more integrated since most of the time I felt like no matter what I chose it didnât make any difference in my relationship with characters. Also, I donât think thereâs a way to âofficiallyâ date a specific character, itâs more about raising the intimacy level to earn more interactions but it doesnât actually affect the main plot.
As far as the main mode of progressing through the game, which is winning âdance battlesâ with teams from your gacha collection, this part of the game has its own positive qualities such as the cute chibi forms of the characters that appear on screen and the fact that some of the special attacks show a little anime clip of the character (of course itâs less exciting when you see the same clip every battle but I still thought it was a nice touch). I was a little disappointed that there wasnât a rhythm aspect as the âdance battleâ name would imply, and your main interaction during the battle itself is basically just tapping hearts that pop up and tapping the characters when their attacks are ready, but you also have the option to skip that whole interactive sequence and just get a result based on your teamâs stats, so thereâs not much to complain about there (especially since the battles are sort of a side note compared to the storytelling aspect of the game despite being the main element of RPG-based gameplay that allows you to progress). If you are interested in the RPG aspects, thereâs plenty of that to work with (building teams, balancing attributes, managing resources/rewards to level up cards and progress through skill trees of sorts, all that good stuff) although youâre limited to an extent by how difficult it is to get a lot of gacha draws without paying real money. Itâs even harder to be able to focus on both strategy and character relationships while playing for free when the same scarce currency is used for both gacha draws and gifts.
đż Is this a free game or a âfree gameâ? Despite what I just said, I would still consider it a free game - you can gradually save up some of premium currency the game gives out through tasks in order to pay for more gacha draws and other items, and as far as I can tell you can access the main story and the other parts of the game without hitting a paywall. I only got to the fourth chapter so far though so donât take this assessment as gospel. Like with a lot of other freemium games you might feel pressured to pay (especially when you run out of gifts to give your lover boys, which was the biggest downer for me, or if youâre obsessed with wanting to collect a lot of cards or get a specific card) but since you donât actually need to pay to progress I still consider it free.
Thereâs also an energy system where you hit a wall and have to wait if you run out, but I never ran out because of the huge amount of energy the game dumps on you when you first start, and it seems like there are a bunch of other ways to get extra energy as well. There also arenât pop-up or watch-to-earn ads in this game that I saw.
đ Features
Main visual novel scenes and storyline (the visual novel scenes come between dance battle stages and there are a few short side routes that branch off but still one main route as far as I can tell, I donât think your dialog choices really make a different except for in how the characters react to you immediately afterward. Still the main storyline in itself is fun to follow and itâs fun to get different reactions out of the characters based on what you say)
Dance battles (Iâm not fully knowledgeable about the minutia of the RPG system at play here but in general the outcome of the battle will depend on the level, rank and attributes of your cards compared against the difficulty and attributes of the stage youâre playing. There also âmemory cardsâ that can be assigned to support your team and expendable temporary boosters called âglow sticksâ that boost your stats for one battle. During the battle itself you tap hearts that appear to earn extra points and you can tap your characters when their power is charged up to âattackâ your opponent and use special skills. There are guides online that go deeper into stats and strategies and such if youâre interested. Different stages have different rewards for completion and you can quick complete levels youâve already beaten to mine resources you need)
Gacha mechanic and cards (the gacha area of this game is called âNightmareâ and there are a few different pools along with event pools each with their own odds and sets of cards you can get. For the default pools you get free draws periodically and I believe you get one free draw for each event pool IIRC. You also get a bunch of vouchers for draws when you first start the game which got me handful of SSRs and a couple URs to build a couple of solid teams right off the bat. In addition to drawing directly from gacha pools you can get some cards by collecting card pieces as rewards from stages and events until you have enough to get the actual card. Each card has its own set of stats/attributes, can be leveled up and has a skill tree of sorts that can be progressed through with resources mined through beating stages, although itâs more of an attribute tree than a skill tree since most of the branches just add points onto one of your cardâs attributes. Some cards, the rarer ones, have special skills that can be used in battle)
One-on-one characters interactions and intimacy i.e. the âdatingâ part (there are two ways this occurs: 1) you can set a specific character to your home screen that allows you to enter into an interaction with them, with a refresh period in between interactions 2) the main way, which is through âsurprise guestsâ after dance battles. These surprise guests show up frequently but not always, and theyâre always one of the three team members you used in battle, selected randomly. For each one-on-one interaction you can do three actions - either give a gift, touch the character or ignore the character. Sometimes the character will also offer you a high five which counts as an action if you oblige. Different characters have different favorite gifts and touching different parts of the body can get a different reaction depending on the character and your level of intimacy I believe. Your intimacy level with a character increases depending on the combination of actions you perform, and sometimes the character also gives you gifts back like more energy or resources. There are guides for this online as well)
Text messages and phone calls (text messages are the main mode of storytelling outside of the main VN scenes - you get messages from characters or multiple characters in group chats that you respond to with preset messages or stickers similar to how you make choices during the VN parts. Some of the text messages correspond with the main plot as you progress, ex. A character texts you to be in a certain place at a certain time and next VN scene is of you two meeting at that place. I think other text messages also come up when you reach certain intimacy levels with characters. There are certain group messages that you donât respond to where youâre basically spying on a group chat among characters and just get to see what everyoneâs saying. In addition to written messages and emoji stickers characters will also sometimes send pictures. Phone calls are fully voice-acted dialog you have with another character and they seem to pop up when you reach certain intimacy levels - Iâve only gotten ones so far with the two characters I have the highest intimacy with)
Instagram spoof/âDevilgramâ (Devilgram is an in-game photo sharing social media app similar to Instagram and the photos on there correspond to gacha cards. When you acquire the gacha card that corresponds to a Devilgram post you unlock a side story, but you also need keys to unlock further scenes from that story, which can be gradually earned through completing tasks and such)
To Do tasks (completing tasks on your To Do is the main way to earn premium currency in the game along with other rewards and resources. There are daily tasks, overall tasks and tasks specific to each character. Examples of tasks are completing a certain stage or number of stages, beating a stage using a team that includes a certain character or reaching a certain intimacy level with a character. There are also beginner missions when you start the game that I think stay available until you complete all of them)
Events (there are sometimes side story events called âpop quizzesâ and gacha events that are available for a limited time, or sometimes an event has both a corresponding pop quiz and gacha pool. The pop quizzes are separate chapters with their own dance battles and VN scenes, and the battles will come with reward points that you can spend on different prizes. Sometimes there are unique cards you can only get from an event. Other minor types of events include log-in bonus events and events where you can get special types of gifts for your love interests. Thereâs also a feature where you can âtime-travelâ back to old events at some cost but I havenât explored this much)
Jobs (you can assign characters to passively complete jobs that earn you a small amount of non-premium currency over time and also increases your intimacy with the assigned characters by a small amount)
Customization (you can unlock avatars of different characters to use for your profile and set the name you want characters to refer to you by throughout the game. You can also change the outfit of your homescreen character, change the homescreen wallpaper and change the homescreen background music by making purchases in the Akuzon shop or acquiring certain gacha cards)
âïž Ad Honesty Rating: 4/5 (just from the ads Iâve seen, especially the ones that appear to be running currently, there donât seem to be blatantly fake ads and the ads show real art and do well conveying the theme and characters in the game. However some of the ads are misleading about the actual mechanics of gameplay and may also lead you to believe there are actual romance routes with the characters which is not really the case)
âïž Overall Rating: 5/5 (I definitely didnât want to give this game a great rating just because itâs super popular on Tumblr but I can definitely see why itâs so popular. There are lots of things to do, the characters are very lovable, itâs funny, the art is great, the music is great and the lore and overall vibe are compelling and unique. Itâs a high-quality game with a good story and Iâll probably keep playing it)

I have approximately zero idea about what Guardian is about, but I am unexpectedly extraordinarily invested just from the gif sets that you reblog, with exactly zero context. I may not know whatâs happening, but the way these beautiful people gaze at each other I can *feel* it. Damn! Whatâs going on and how do I actually watch it?
THAT GAZE IS EVERYTHING IN THIS SHOW. They sell it so hard, and it's hard not to be ride or die with them basically from the moment they see each other in Episode 1. The show has a couple of phases, basically a monster of the week phase early, with character development and relationships building in the background, then major plot emerges and sort of overtakes Monster of the week, and then BIG CONFLICT, punctuated by a couple of digression arcs, some more compelling than others.
I'm going to put this behind a cut because I got excited. Anon I'm so excited for youuuuuuuu.
Okay, so you have that well-dressed man in waistcoats, suits and glasses:
This is Shen Wei, upstanding professor with some secrets and a lot of capacity for pining. i'm not going to say a lot about him except he's delightful and I don't want to spoil anything. I think 2/3 of the show's budget went to his wardrobe and I think it was a good call.
Also he wears these arm garters, that ... shouldn't look that good but. Anyway, this is my favorite pair, so.
The more casual guy with an oral fixation (those damn lollipops), motorcycles, and a lot of insouciance is Chief Zhao Yunlan
He's the head of a secret government task force/police force of people whose job is basically to investigate mysterious crimes, (think X-Files), especially ones where powers might be involved, with the added understanding that the gov't knows about people with powers but the average person doesn't, and there are tricky diplomatic issues involved bc one faction of them aren't really allowed in Haixing (where our characters live). He has issues with authority and is very competent. He is also a slob, and his deputy chief and roommate is a cat who roasts him regularly.
Most of his team is powered but he's vanilla human in the show. Thereâs a strong found family element to the team which is pretty great.Â
Okay, so it's on both YouTube (ep 1) and Viki (ep 1)with English subs. I've also seen downloadable files, I think on DW.
I will tell you RIGHT NOW that the first episode feels like a fever dream, largely bc there's a lot of bonkers exposition in the first 10 min and then basically every major character introduction is like a punch in the face. Part of the reason the exposition is so wild is that the censors had to change a lot of major charactersâ backgrounds so they aren't ghosts anymore, so they're uh. descendants of aliens, and that's why they have powers that definitely aren't supernatural. This will be mentioned in the first 10 minutes and never come up again.
After the first episode, basically the episodes move into MOTW format, but, since the town they live in is apparently 6 blocks long, a lot of the characters they run into in these episodes come back or are still around, which I like--it feels a lot more organic than a lot of episodic shows where people show up for an episode and then disappear forever.
The CGI is terrible, costuming all over the place, most of the villains look like conceptual rejects from Hot Topic, and YET IT IS SO COMPELLING. The two main characters stay with you and honestly make the show.

Hello all you lovely people! Today I come to you bearing gifts!
the gift that is this fic, which is quite possibly the longest fanfic Iâve ever done. Period. Iâve written more for a personal story of mine, but this oneâŠthis just takes the cake.
14 pages, 6988 Â words. That may not sound like a lot, but for me it was a huge thing, and Iâm actually pretty proud of it.Â
this was inspired by the song âBurn the Witchâ by Shawn James, which I highly recommend listening to towards the end of this.
So this involves witches, as you might have guessed. I did do some research on this, referencing a few holidays. With that being said, this is not the fic to go to looking for accurate information about Pagan Holidays, their differences, similarities and all the right customs. This is all mixed in with some fictional things that I felt helped the story flow. If you want an accurate description of their holidays, practices, beliefs, please go do your own research, or ask someone that knows about them, as that person is not me.Â

You were standing beside your mother, hanging onto her skirts as she placed a flower crown in your hair, your small hands reaching to gently feel their soft petals.Â

It was the brightest summer you could remember, the first thing you could remember actually.
You could see your father, as well as some of your parentsâ friends, all gathering wood into this large pile to be lit that night. You felt a thrum of something run through your fingers as your hands fell back to your sides. Excitedly you tugged on your motherâs skirts.Â
Sheâd just placed a crown upon a friendâs head, looking down at you with that sweet smile that had you giggling.Â
âWhat has you so giggly darling?âÂ
She bent down to your level, nearly falling over as you thrust your zinging hand in the general direction of her face. She carefully pushed your fingers back, a gasp at her lips as soft yellow hues glowed from your fingertips, your other hand still preoccupied with the soft flower petals.
âWell would you look at that! I knew youâd be getting it soon!â She pressed kisses all over your face, the last one landing on your forehead. Her attention was pulled from you as someone called out to her, a young woman, no older than your own mother, with hair so dark it was almost green, carrying someone whoâs hair matched hers.Â
âInko! You made it!â She hugged the woman- now named Inko- closely, only pulling back after a tight squeeze.Â
âThank you for inviting us! Are you sure itâs alright that weâre here? These arenât, well, really our traditions to do-â
âNonsense! Youâre family, you are just as welcome here now as any other part of the year. Now who is this young one?â You watched as she motioned to the, what you could now see was a young boy, who had the brightest green eyes you had ever seen, with a magic all their own.
âThis is my son, Izuku, my pride and joy,â She nuzzled his cheek, pressing a kiss there. In an attempt to get him to smile she blew a raspberry on his cheek, which had him giggling, but his eyes remained trained on your mother. âHeâs a little shy around strangers howeverâ
â Thatâs the same little one I saw last year? Goodness, heâs grown so much!â
âOh I know! It seems like only yesterday I just had him!Â
You frowned, you wanted mamaâs attention! It was like sheâd forgotten you were there. You tugged on her skirts with a whine, hardly mollified when she only gave you her hand. You pressed it against your cheek.Â
âAnd this is the lady of the day?â Inko set down Izuku in favor of looking you over.
âYes indeed, our little Birthday girl, (Y/N)â She smiled down at you letting go of your hand, âWhy donât you show Izuku how to make a flower crown, hm?âÂ
At the idea of doing something fun your mood brightened immediately, offering your hand to him. He instead looked up at his mother, now adorned with her own flower crown, who gave him a light push towards you.Â
He nervously gave you his hand and you pulled him over to the circle of people braiding flowers together.
Somehow, that little moment blossomed into friendship. As the hours passed, heâd opened up, little by little, much like the flowers in your hand had when first blooming. He told you stories from his village, tales of a heroic man- a knight you would later remember- under the name of âAll Mightâ.
 As he talked, he paid close attention to how your hands moved as he made his crown. While it wasnât perfect, he placed the small crown over the one your mother had given you, saying it wasnât any good. You told him right then and there you were proud to wear it. You had yet to finish yours, so you asked him to continue his stories as you worked. It may have been all he talked about for the first hour since then, but you were keen to hear his tales, eyes sparkling with something wonderful as his freckled cheeks turned pink at the sound of your laughter.Â
He was also incredibly interested in your traditions. You were too young to have them all memorized by heart, but you did know that at every celebration, you, and others of your kind in the area, came to this specific clearing in the woods.Â
The area had been used for as long as any elder could remember, slowly built into a circle with a place for the fire in the center, steps built into the hill as makeshift seats, the grass around the area lush and green, the best to dance around the fire in. During this celebration in particular you adorned crowns of flowers and built the fire, dancing and offering praise to the gods. Hardly any from the village came to these celebrations, but they did not condemn your ways and kept to their own.Â
You danced and played the day away, the other children chasing after you in good fun. Giggles and loud shrieks filled the air, air soft and warm with the scent of the lavender fields so close by.
Of course, you were both so young then, by the time the stars were high in the sky, the both of you were out like lights, leaning against one another with a blanket draped over your laps. You only remember briefly waking as you were cuddled next to someone in your bed. You paid no mind as your father kissed your forehead, leaving you with a whisper of âgoodnightâ. You snuggled back into the person beside you, green hair tickling your nose as you slipped back into sleep.
When you awoke the next morning, breakfast lingering in the air. Your heart clenched sadly as you were alone. Had yesterday been a dream? Where had your new friend gone? You scrambled out of bed into the main room, Izuku sitting next to his mother, stuffing a sweet bread your father had made into his mouth, whilst Inko and your mother talked about the previous night.
Since then, Izuku and his mother had returned to every holiday, the Autumn equinox, Samhain, the Winter solstice, every single one. You would count down the days, a small piece of charcoal to mark on your wall until the day he arrived.Â
With every visit came more tales of knights and their battles, Heâd even started writing them down, so that way no one would forget them and their deeds. You had joked that with a memory like his, he would never forget.Â
During the time in between visits, you learned how to help manage your fatherâs shop. He taught you which herbs and plants had medicinal properties, how to bring a potion to the right temperature and keep it there, hands glowing a soft blue.Â
Your mother taught you the other properties of magic, warding away evil and the right way to banish an evil that had long sunk its roots into itâs target, hands glowing a soft purple. You were all too happy to learn from them, how to help people with a kind hand and a soft smile.Â
But there were times your heart had wanted to be cruel, to be angry. When all you wanted to do was place something wicked on the boys that ran around your village and teased you. Especially when they had torn apart a necklace your mother had given you.Â
It wasnât rare by any means, but your mother had given it to you and thus it was special.
You told your mother as such after hours of searching for the pendant, with little to no luck of even finding the chain. She had nearly dropped the jar of spices into the soup she had been making.Â
âCurses are not things to be taken lightly darling,â She sat you down at the table, your feet kicking in an irritated fashion, toes barely touching the floor. âThey are dangerous, and not for the faint of heart. But most importantly, that is not what our magic is forâ she tilted your pouting face up to hers, so she could look you in the eye, her other hand taking your smaller one into hers. âOur magic is to help and heal. Those of our magic who choose otherwise haveâŠThey have died, or worse even. So promise me youâll never curse or hex anyone. Alright?â
âI promise mum,â you sighed, anger dissipating into a strange form of disappointment and forced contentment. She let go of your hand with a smile, a confused expression on your face as you opened your hand to find the necklace sitting on your palm as if it had been there for hours.Â
That promise only lasted a short time. The next time Izuku had visited, the boys began to pick on him as well, he was shorter and smaller than they were, a prime target. That was all easily ignorable, taking his hand and leading him off somewhere else. The last straw had been a kick to his dream.
âYouâll never be a real knight, no matter how hard you try! Youâre too much of a mamaâs boy, too weak!â
You could have sworn youâd seen red, though Izuku begged you not to do anything. It was only his asking that spared the boys a beating they would not come out of unscathed.Â
So instead, come nightfall, you had slipped from your bed, careful not to step on Izuku as you passed. You snuck into the shop, grabbing one of your fatherâs bowls and setting out into the forest. You picked at your ingredients with haste, mashing them together with water and a stone. You uttered the foulest curse your young mind could think of; giving the boys a taste of being so close but never there. An itch they couldnât scratch, they would never be able to scratch, no matter how sharp their nails.
Pleased with your work, you washed out the now empty bowl. You ignored the sickly feeling in your stomach, setting the bowl back in its place. You closed the door as softly as you could, sneaking back into bed.
However, that morning you awoke to your skin feeling itchy, the sensation unrelenting no matter how hard your nails scratched. Your whimpers of panic woke Izuku, eyes wide with panic of his own, he dove out the door and ran for your mother.Â
Thatâs how you found yourself alone, with your mother, the offending bowl in question as well as one that had an ointment of some kind in it, your mother smearing it over your red skin.
âI hope youâve learned something from this,â her voice held just the barest hint of amusement, though only just barely. âPoison ivy isnât exactly a walk in the parkâ she finished with your arms and moved on to your back.Â
âIf you werenât careful however,â her voice turned hard, your body tensing at the shift in tone, âThis could have turned out far worse. Far more dangerous. Magic isnât a game, there are real consequences to your actions, just as there are in any other parts of lifeâ You nodded your head solemnly, the back of your mind thanking just about everything for the relief the ointment brought.Â
Of course you had to learn the hard way the effects of going against your own nature.Â
Youâd spent that Summer Solstice wrapped up with an ointment, dealing with Izukuâs annoying little smirk.
âI appreciate the thought (Y/N),â He whispered to you, the two of you sat a ways from the fire as you watched the others dance, âYou wanted to defend me, but please, donât go around cursing people, for my sake if not yoursâ he laughed, swatting your hand away from your own arm as you tried to itch it.Â
âYeah, yeah, see if I ever do anything nice for you ever againâ you groused, no heat behind your words. You were best friends, youâd do anything for him, just like he would you.
It was on your seventeenth birthday, a coming of age for a young witch, when you learned how far those feelings would go.
It was one hell of a birthday, you thought, sitting behind the wagon full of flowers that had yet to be formed into crowns, crying pitifully. The young girls of the village had teased you, your dress was so short compared to the usual style, even the sleeves! Your ankles were on full display and your feet were bare.
You hardly minded their comments, their concerns didnât matter. It was your coming of age celebration as well as the Solstice. Everything was perfect, youâd even woken up early, gotten all your chores done and had enough time to have a relaxing bath beforehand. Their sense of fashion didnât matter compared to your traditions. Not only that, but your mother had made the dress herself, it was soft and comfortable.Â
It was only when the other witches your age had decided that the color you wore wasnât appropriate for the celebration, in these âmodernâ times, far too dark and disrespectful. While they had etched a seed of self consciousness into your mind, you carried on, your mother had chosen this color specifically for you and the celebration at hand. The colors were fine! In your irritation, you stomped away hardly looking where you were going, falling face first and sliding into a patch of mud, probably leftover from yesterdayâs rain.
You looked up from your predicament, one of the others dogs lifting up its leg to pee near you but not on you. At that angle it hardly mattered. The giggles from younger children were harsh enough, grating on your ears, whispers from some of the elders of this being a bad omen. But what was the worst of it all? The concern in Izukuâs eyes. Heâd made a beeline towards you, but before he could reach you, you had sprinted off, just away from everyone.
You didnât know why his eyes made it all the worse, that look never would have bothered you before, right?
The sun was starting to set, the wood was almost arranged perfectly to burn all night long.
You wiped your eyes, glaring down at the mud now on your hands.
âI thought I might find you hereâ
You jumped, heart launching itself into overdrive as you whirled around only to see Izuku.
âOh! IzukuâŠyou scared meâ you placed a hand over your heart, as if it would slow to a normal pace if you did so. âShouldnât you be helping with the fire?â you asked, scooting over so he could sit next to you.
âWhat kind of a friend would I be if I let you be here by yourself?â he asked, his gaze patiently waiting to meet yours, as soon as you had the courage to.
âYou seemed alright with me being here up until nowâ you muttered. A flash of hurt appeared in his eyes, you immediately regret your harsh tone.
âW-Well, I had wanted to let you cool down before I just got in your space-â
âNo, that was unfair of me Izuku, Iâm sorry. I justâŠeverything was supposed to be perfect. Or realistically perfect. Falling flat on my face in mud wasnât exactly a part of the planâ you wiped your hands off on what little remained of your dress. âOr being considered a possible bad omenâ
âI know what thatâs like, remember on my fifteenth birthday, when I was helping carry all those crates?â You had to hold back a snort, as you recalled the story.Â
Your father had arranged for you to meet a supplier of a rare type of herb, as well as a few crates of spices for one of the shopkeepers in the village. The poor man had fallen ill this year and had somehow convinced his supplier to meet him halfway instead of going to the nearest town.Â
Izuku had been visiting at the time and, of course, offered to help you. You had just gotten over the main hill, you could see the people of your village milling about. You turned to look over at Izuku, only to watch as he fell face first onto the ground, tripping over a root. The barrels of spices went rolling down the hill, him rolling after them.Â
The barrels landed with a crash against some boxes stacked near the well, Izuku was hardly so lucky as he had rolled right into the wells wall.
âYou were so lucky that you came out of that with only a broken armâ you laughed softly, a huff of laughter escaping him as well.Â
âAt least the spices were alright, Iâd have felt so bad if theyâd all gone to waste because of my clumsinessâ he placed a hand over yours, not even minding the dirt and tears that clung to it.Â
âItâs not quite the same as a âbad omenâ, itâs also probably a little thoughtless of me to say â forget themâ when theyâre a huge part of your culture, your traditions. ButâŠI want you to know that, they could call you any and all these bad things under the sunâŠand your parents wouldnât believe them for a minuteâŠI wouldnât believe them for a minute.âÂ
He stood up then, pulling you gently along with him. You allowed him, though your eyes were too preoccupied with seeing what everyone else is doing. Most were gathered around the fire, listening as one of the elders spoke, others talking and laughing amongst themselves, their cups full of sweet liquid.
He led you down to the river, the water warmed by the long summer day, softly babbling as the wildlife went about their ways. He sat you down on one of the rocks, taking one in front of you for himself.
âWhat are we doing over here Izuku?âÂ
He didnât answer you, reaching into one of his pockets and dunking a cloth into the water.
âIsnât that your handkerchief?â you ask, face molded into disgust as the cloth came closer to you.
âWhat? No, well yes, but this one is an extra one, itâs clean I promiseâ he gently placed his hand on your chin, tilting your face up as he wiped the muck off of your face.
His touch was soft but firm, eyes only taking in his work as your own counted the freckles that danced along his cheeks, the way he bit his lip in concentration. Somewhere in the deepest part of your mind and the very center of your heart, you knew why that look had your cheeks turning red and your heart hammering in your chest. But at the forefront of your mind, you couldnât tell why.
The two of you were silent as he continued his pattern, dunking the cloth into the water, washing out the dirt and wringing out the water to carefully wash away the dirt on your face.Â
It doesnât take him long however, to finish with his task, washing and wringing out the cloth for the last time. His eyes finally meet yours, offering a gentle smile that only widened as he booped your nose with the cloth, the face you made sending pink butterflies through his stomach. You couldnât help but laugh as well, his good mood far too contagious.
âAh, there you are,â he said, his hand still holding your face as he took in your smile. You only hummed in agreement, internally mourning the loss of warmth from his hand as he pocketed the cloth.Â
âThank you, Izuku, that wasâŠyou are too kind for this world, I thinkâ You stood up from the rock, you couldnât stay down by the river all night. Your dress may have been ruined, youâd have to apologize to mother for it, but someone must have brought an extra. Or so you hoped.Â
Hand in hand, you walked back to the clearing, trying to slip past the majority of the party to get to your mother, only for a gentle hand to stop you both in your tracks.
One of the elders, Mrs.Tachibana, looked up at you with kind eyes. She was mostly known for her talent for seeing into the future. Thatâs what the majority said it was, she described it as, â getting a feeling Iâll need such and such object todayâ only for it to come in handy at the oddest of times.
âIâm sorry Mrs.Tachibana, did I bump into you?â She shook her head at your question.
âOh no dear, but I do have something for you. I had made it for my daughter, but it seems she made her own dress this time. I think Itâs a good color for you!â She carefully handed the dress to you, to which you handed to Izuku, your body was covered in mud! You werenât about to dirty some other dress.
âOh are you sure-â
âOh yes of course dear, no one else is going to be wearing it tonight!âÂ
You quickly changed behind a tapestry your mother had been working on, feeling much better and cleaner in this new dress, it was a little on the short end, but just barely past what your motherâs dress had been.
You walk back out to find Izuku waiting for you, the fire having been lit. The music was hardly loud, but the drums struck a chord within your heart that pulsed with energy, a need to sing along, to move to the beat. You bound over to him, taking his hand in yours.
âI see youâre feeling betterâ He mused, his foot tapping to the beat.
âMuch better. Come dance with me?â You tugged gently on his hand toward the fire.
âYou know Iâm not the best dancer (Y/N)â He warned, as if you didnât have years of experiencing it first hand. You shrugged your shoulders, even though he was far from good, he was most definitely not a disaster.
âIs that a No?â You swayed back and forth on your heels, looking up at him with what you hoped was a sweet enough look to get what you liked. He let go of your hand, for a moment you feared youâd pushed your luck too far, suddenly his hands were on your waist, lifting you into the air as he spun you into the dancing circle, your shriek of surprise worth the slight pain of him stepping on his own toes as he brought you back down.
You danced the night away together, hardly pausing for a break, you didnât need to for whatever reason. You just wanted his arms around you, spinning you this way and that, lifting you in time with the music that had your stomach doing somersaults that tickled.
He felt the same, your laughter had his heart soaring, the smile on your face shooting Cupidâs arrows right through his heart. He tripped and stumbled every so often, but it was all worth it if it meant you were having a good time.
The two of you finally stopped to take a break, the moon high in the sky. You pulled him towards the river once again, the cool air there was bound to cool you off.Â
You sat down in the grass, pulling him down with you as you laughed at his startled expression.
âWell Iâd say you did quite well with dancing!â
âOh do you really? Even with all my fumbles?â
âEh, you just added a few new steps!â
âA few new steps she says!â He barked out a laugh, tears gathering in his eyes, your own giggles twisting into his like sweet music.Â
Your laughter died out naturally, the music of crickets and rushing water kept you company, the drums from the music thumping distantly. He leaned back, looking up to the sky, you followed suit, your shoulder pressed against his as you pointed up at the stars.
âI think Iâll draw a new image in the stars. Just for tonightâ You traced the shape with your fingers, Izuku mirroring your actions to see if he could get the shape.
âAnd, what are you going to call this new one?â
âHmmâŠIâm not sure yet. Itâs a processâÂ
Your brow furrowed as you thought, the thoughts clear in your eyes, oh he was hopeless.
You jumped slightly at the feel of his hand cupping your jaw. His eyes were full of an emotion you couldnât name, but it set your skin ablaze.
âIâve had a great time tonightâ you murmur, eyes wide and watching. What was he going to do?
âI have too,â he matched your volume, thumb idly stroking your cheek gently.
âIâve actually thought about this for a while, but I wasâŠafraid to ask you, in case I somehow ruined our friendship. ButâŠthe thing is (Y/N), I know our friendship is strong enough to withstand that. I want more than a friendship with you, IâŠI want to be with you all the time. I wanna be there on your good days, bad days, those days where everything and nothing are going on at once, I want it all,â he took a deep breath, steadying his shaking limbs and resolving his nerves.
âWhat do you say (Y/N)? Be my Love?âÂ
Your eyes had watered considerably, your own hand holding his, you couldnât help but nod.
âI was starting to think that my feelings were one sided,â you laughed, tears dripping down your cheeks. âI would love nothing more than to be yoursâÂ
He leaned into your space, so carefully, his hand gently pulling you closer until your lips met his, soft and warm, just like yours. You slowly pulled back, only to be gently pulled back in again, over and over until you were used to one anotherâs rhythm, kisses becoming slower and longer.
His tongue softly asked for entrance, and you readily allowed him access. He tasted of the sweet drink that had been served, goosebumps raised along your skin as he leaned you backwards into the grass, his eyes half lidded as adoration danced along the pinks of his cheeks.Â
He was careful not to press you too hard into the ground as he kissed you again, your tongues dancing as your hand gripped the hair at the base of his skull. The groan that rumbled through his chest and that particular rough pass of his lips had your toes curling.
He parted from you again, staring at your kiss bruised lips, wet and so inviting looking, moving slowly towards your (E/C) colored eyes, finding the same emotion fluttering in his heart. Carefully he sat up, you following after him with a smile on your face. You sat together, curled into one another as you watched the stars.
It had been four years since that Solstice, the two of you now adults. A year or two after becoming lovers, Izuku had finally found someone to train him into becoming a knight, a real hero. It meant that you would see him less, but he would always write to you when he could.
You were saddened at the news, but also so proud. Finally after all these years, his dream was coming true. He promised you that he would always come back to you, that once he had become a knight, able to help you build your own healing stand in the main city, Heâd properly ask you to marry him. You knew he always kept his promises, one way or another.Â
How could you deny him his dream? You couldnât truthfully.
That brought you here, scratching out another day along the tally you made. Only a few more days until Izuku came back. You helped your father run the shop now, almost fully taking over as the village healer.Â
You braced the day with a smile as the regulars came in, the usual ointments for Mrs.Tachibana, some medicine to the mother of some poor twins who had caught some sickness during the seasons change to spring, a wooden spoon covered in semi-crystalized honey for the wailing babe, their teeth slowly but surely coming in.
The morning rush could hardly be considered as such, your doors opening right at the first peak of dawn. You waved off the last of the morning patrons in no time at all.
You bend down to grab a few herbs, mixing something to help soothe Mr.Yamadaâs vocal chords. You hear the door push open, pulling you from your line of thought, your eyes meeting bright green.
âIzuku!â you cry, rushing over to him, arms wrapped around his shoulders in the tightest hug you could manage. Heâd grown so much taller than you last remembered- well just bigger in general!
Heâd bulked up considerably- he joked he wanted to get better at giving hugs along with being a Knight- and was now a full two heads taller than you. You only pull back to place your hands on his jaw, pulling him down to kiss you properly.
âDid I surprise you?â he laughed, pressing another kiss to your forehead.Â
âYes! You werenât due back for a few more days! Oh Iâm so happy your home!â You stood back up on your toes to press more kisses to his face. âTell me everything!â
He told you all about the training he went through- hell as he called it, eyes looking back with a slight fondness that only nostalgia could bring- the antics he and some other knights in training had gotten into. His teacher, Aizawa, was a hard man, but ultimately soft hearted in his own way. He couldnât wait for you to meet the friends he had made, and you were excited to see them.
âI have heard someâŠother things thoughâ he hesitated, leaning against the counter as you finished Mr.Yamadaâs medicine, the yellow glow from your hands dimming until it was no more. âIn the city theyâre telling stories of witchesâŠand not good ones either.â you hummed in agreement, concern laced into your features.
Youâd heard of rumors of witches in nearby towns and villages. At first, nothing was seemingly worrisome about it. So some covens had decided to announce their place in the world, big deal.
Until the rumors had become something dark. Stories of sacrifices, hexes and curses upon innocent bystanders, children. Soon there were rumors of witches in every town, every village.
âEven the people here have started to becomeâŠnervousâ beforehand, the villagers not a part of your coven had nothing to fear from you, youâd never given them any reason to. But these new witches, witches that were said to be everywhere, brought fear into your community.Â
âIâm worried Izuku, theyâve started burning people in the next few townsâŠIâm not sure what we could do, a show of our magic could scare them into a frenzy, but not doing anything could be just as bad. They even have a witch hunter!â you set down the pestle gently, Izuku taking your hand in his.
âIâm worried too. But for right now, the best we can do is wait and see how things go. No matter what, Iâll always be here, you wonât go through this alone.â your heart fluttered warmly at his words, pressing a kiss to his hand.
The next few days did little to raise or diminish your worries. You walked about the village, showing him what all had changed in his absence, ignoring the stares of the same village girls that had teased your dress all those years ago.Â
It wasnât until the third week that had changed. Even that morning, the dew felt strung and the air was hot and still. Your father had asked you the night before to gather some lavender from the fields in the morning, he was running low on stock.
The two of you agreed, baskets in hand you walked to the fields.Â
The breeze began to pick up as you climbed up the hills, the sweet scent dancing around you as you looked up into your lovers eyes.
âIs it just me, or have the lavender fields gotten smaller?â he joked, sitting beside you as you carefully snipped away at the plant, making sure to cut the stalk specifically so the flower could regrow.Â
âNo, I think youâve just gotten taller.â You mused, handing him the stalks to carefully separate the leaves and the flowers themselves.Â
It was a tense silence as you worked, though you couldnât tell what was on his. On yours however, was the frequent news of witches being killed. But not only witches, but innocent people as well, for the slightest and most ridiculous thing. Spoiled milk, your neighbor suddenly falling ill after accidentally tripping over your shoe?Â
These people wouldnât know a witch if one kicked them in the ass.
âI think,â Izuku startled you from your thoughts, âIt would be best if tonight, you and your family leave with me. At least until all of this calms down.â There would be no reasoning with the public, not with the mass hysteria and distrust of everyone.
âI would agree, but papa would never give up his shop, weâve been there for years, generations evenâ you handed him a few more stalks.Â
âWeâll have to convince him somehow. I had hoped things would die down, considering the evidence and logic-â
âSince when have the masses and logic ever seen eye to eye?â you quip back, brow raised into bittersweet amusement.
âSince never, but I had hopedâŠWell It doesnât really matter what Iâd hoped. What Iâm thinking now is, I write to my fellow knights in training for help. To help move your coven safelyâ He started to mumble, various questions littering his mind, how fast could a letter get there?Â
Their letters had been casual, while important, they werenât of any dire emergency. Would his friends believe him? No of course they would, once he proved to them the logic of things. The masses may not be soâŠsensitive to logic, but his fellow knights were not the masses.
It takes you until sunset to gather enough petals to fill the basket, though the two of you were hardly in any hurry. You walked back to the village, the tense air having loosened just ever so slightly.
All the relaxation the lavender provided was gone the second black smoke was visible over the hill. Lavender forgotten, you ran to the village, the smoke billowing from two stakes. You raced down the hill, passing the well.
NoâŠNo gods please no!
On one stake was the remnants of your mother, her eyes open towards the sky as her body drew no more breath. Beside her was your father, eyes closed. A cry of rage and sorrow rang loose, distant from your ears as strong, familiar arms wrapped around you. You screamed and kicked, clawed at his arms. Your throat felt raw as you cried, eyes looking for someone, anyone to blame.
Youâd only heard descriptions of him, hairdo pale it was blue, with eyes as red as the blood of innocents he condemned- Tomura Shigaraki.
âLet their souls be cleansed of this evil, so they may find rest at the side of the great one, All for Oneâ his voice was horrid, nasal and cruel, the imagery of snakes filling the back of your mind. He didnât believe a word he was saying, so evident by the snarl at his lip he called a smile, twisted pleasure saturating his eyes.
âAh, the main event has arrived!â he snapped his fingers motioning towards you and Izuku, his guards making their way over to you.
One man pulled you from Izukuâs grasp, two men grabbing Izuku by the arms. He swore, headbutting one of the guards, kicking back on the others shin. âYou let go of her!â he growled, another pair tackling him down to the ground to restrain him.
âYou evil, wicked thing! How dare you kill these innocent people, how dare-â you shrieked and shrieked as you struggled against your captor, another guard capturing your other arm.
âYou may struggle now witch! The evil within fights back! But donât worry, youâll soon be cleansed.â
Despite your struggles, the both of you are taken into one of the old jails, hidden underground.
The place was dusty from lack of use, the packed earth against the stone kept it cool. You were leaned up against the bars, Izuku leaning against the same ones across from you. He couldnât hold you like he wanted, the bars too small for anything else but his hands.
âI should have thought about this harderâŠI should have made a plan soonerâ he murmured, breaking the silence. âIf I hadnât wasted time, then maybe-â
âDonâtâ your voice was clipped and harsh. You hadnât meant to be, regret adding to the myriad of emotions pulsing around your broken heart. âMum and Papa wouldnât want you toâŠto talk like that.â you wipe a tear as best as you can, your hand reaching to find his again.
âItâs no oneâs fault but that damned Shigarakiâ you hiss, â Heâs the witch hunter. Heâs selling the world a story and theyâre all buying it.â you could feel his lips pressed against your forehead. You shift so you are on your knees, holding onto the bars for balance, you kiss him, deeply, trying to memorize the taste of him one last time.Â
You stay like that, murmuring sweet nothings to one another, for who knows how long. You only know that it is all too soon when they open the doors again, dragging you out to the stake. Izuku struggles against the guards as they force him into a kneeling position beside Shigaraki.
Your heart hammers in your chest, adrenaline rushing through your veins as you struggle against your bonds. What you wouldnât give to become the witch they so feared, maybe then your parents would be alive. Maybe then you and your betrothed would have a chance of surviving.
The fire starts all too quickly, Izukuâs agonized screams of horror sharp in your mind as tears run down your cheeks. Your last image of him couldnât be of his eyes filled with hopelessness.Â
âI love you Izuku! I love you so much, Weâll be together again I swear it-â
âSilence Witch! Your spells have no power here!â
You ignored them, screaming louder, a cool burning sensation wrapping around the ring finger of your left hand, âI will find you! I donât care how long it takes, we will be together!â
âI love you (Y/N)!â he cries back, a cool burning sensation around his left ring finger was left unnoticed. He was focused entirely on you. Until his world went black.
The guard righted himself, adjusting his hands behind his back, Izuku sat there, his head tilted forward, unconscious. Your heart finally severed, the only explanation for the black ink that spilled from it, tainting all in its path. The wind howled as a sudden storm raged above you, hair twisting this way and that, fueled by the wild look in your eyes, satisfaction found within the fear of Shigarakiâs red irises.
Your magic wasnât made for curses or hexes. But with your heart broken, the once golden light of your magic turned vengeful, bubbling and vicious. Even as the smoke rose, your voice boomed across the village.

You had all decided to go to the fair that had opened up. Towards the end of your merriment, you spotted a fortune teller of a sort, and decided to go inside. Everything had been fairly light hearted and fun, until the two of you sat down for your turn. The fortune teller was shocked, the past had something important for you to see, and by all that was good you were going to see it.

One of the things I think about a lot as a bisexual trans man is how the things Iâm âallowedâ to say map directly to how people read me as a person.Â
Pre-transition, I experienced a lot of misogyny due to my life and career choices. Iâve been sexually assaulted twice and was stalked by a supervisor at a previous job. As a passing trans man, people do not assume that Iâve had these experiences (and I donât blame them for not expecting it - how could they know?). That occasionally puts me in a strange position. For example, I once took a diversity training where the instructor asked a series of questions about different experiences and asked anyone that had had those experiences to stand up. It is VERY uncomfortable to be the only man standing when the question âHave you ever been harassed due to your gender at work?â is asked. (I would like to caveat that the instructor told us standing up was voluntary, that we should only do so if we felt comfortable.)Â
The experience brought up a lot of different thoughts for me - that my identity is not fundamentally captured in our binary understanding of gender and gendered experiences, that assumptions about gendered experiences leave me isolated from everyone around me, that such attempts at diversity training without space to share your actual experience leads to misunderstanding. It also made me question how much explanation I âoweâ to someone when I speak out about my experiences. Speaking superficially, the answer is of course that I donât owe anyone anything. Speaking more realistically...should I have clarified that my experience should fall into the âfemaleâ bucket, because the people harassing me assumed I was female? The instructorâs point was to highlight that women face an issue men largely do not, and by standing but not speaking out, I muddied that point when I could have just explained.Â
Assuming Iâm cool with explaining (which is sometimes true and sometimes not, in that case I had the spoons to stand but not to explain), even that is complicated. Knowledge around trans people and trans issues is not widespread. If I bring up my transness in a discussion, the discussion has to be sidetracked to bring everyone up to speed about what exactly that means. Even if people are familiar, they generally respond as if thatâs something that needs to be discussed or something I need to be reassured about, which leads the whole discussion off on a tangent. I remember I was once having a conversation with two people at a party, one man and one woman, and the woman was sharing a pretty personal memory of sexual harassment. I wanted to commiserate because Iâve had the same experience. But commiserating meant sharing my status as transgender, which would have pulled the focus away from her and onto me to explain all that, and she was in the middle of being really vulnerable so of course I didnât want to do that. That meant that for all intents and purposes, I was isolated from connecting with someone via shared experiences due to my status as transgender and due to other peopleâs perceptions of my experience. That...sucked.Â
Professionally, Iâve been involved in many conversations around gendered issues. It is definitely the case that as a man, I can talk about these issues (and be listened to seriously) in a way that women canât. But to be more clear, that means talking about them as if Iâm a cisgender man. Because the value here doesnât come from me saying âIâm a man and yet was sexually assaulted while being perceived as femaleâ, it comes from me pretending to be a cis man and saying, âbut I still believe women when they talk about the seriousness of sexual assault!â In fact, I canât tell you how many times Iâve told my own stories of harassment and misogyny and pretended that it was something that happened to âa friend of mineâ instead. Again, I donât owe it to anyone to pretend to be cisgender in these conversations. I also donât owe it to anyone to come out as transgender so people have the right context. AND YET, I do feel I have an obligation to say something. So in the end, I still have to choose one of those options. If I donât, the people around me seeing me stay silent in the face of misogyny are not going to magically know that my silence is due to the complicated nature of my gender history. They are going to see me as a cisgender man allowing misogyny to happen. I want anyone seeing what they think is a cisgender man failing to stand up to misogyny to call that person out. Equally, I do not want to be called out because someoneâs perception of me is not correct.Â
Joking has also become vastly more complicated. I never realized how much joking I did that relied specifically on someone being able to see me and make assumptions about my identity in order to understand the joke (which, to be fair, isnât just a gender or sexuality issue....the other day, a coworker Iâd only ever chatted with online sent me the message âthanks you in Asianâ, which had me preparing for a very serious conversation until I saw him in person and realized he was literally referring to himself as an Asian guy). I could very easily make a sarcastic joke now intending to call out misogyny that would come off as me being sexist towards women.Â
Same deal for sexuality. I made a joke today at work that might have seemed homophobic if it were coming from a straight person. I am not a straight person. My coworkers donât know this. The guy I said the joke to, to the best of my knowledge, is a straight guy. If someone overhears that joke and feels offended because they are LGBT or on behalf of LGBT people, does that mean I did something wrong? And yet...am I required to censor the way I talk about my own sexuality in order to not seem like Iâm being homophobic? Do I have to come out in order to not be perceived as telling homophobic jokes? It becomes a situation where I either censor the way I talk about my own identity to reduce harm, I commit to being true to my identity and perpetuate harm, or I out myself in an attempt to give context but therefore open myself up to discrimination. Â
The whole subject is complicated. And mind you, Iâm not advocating in any way that call-out culture is toxic or flawed with this post. I can and do want people to feel comfortable calling out others for what they perceive to be discriminatory or bigoted behavior, even if that means I end up in the crosshairs. Iâm just trying to share some thoughts about how being part of a community in a way thatâs not visible can be complex and frustrating to navigate. This is a subject I navigate daily, sometimes multiple times in a day, and it never gets easier.Â

But this fic is just...I cannot WAIT for the second and third parts of it. The world is so richly realised and the characters have such phenomenal characterisation and development in just this one chapter. Itâs so...involving to read, you just get lost in it. Itâs truly a beautiful work of art that I canât wait to see how everything goes!

Itâs such a slow burn romance but itâs so delightful and rewarding watching this cold and moody lawyer warm up to his bright and bubbly HR person. And then you learn the backstory between them and...I just loved it all!

Itâs so delightful and fun, reminding me a lot of Kikiâs Delivery Service. Jimin is a little rascal but I love that he teases her because he genuinely cares. Itâs all just a truly wonderful fic and story put together in one delightful package.

Gukyiâs Hogwarts series was such a delight to read and I remember reading this fic with a smile on my face. Wanting to scream at reader because POOR TAEHYUNG OBVIOUSLY LOVES YOU. Poor guy trying so hard despite everything :(

Jungkook is so nervous with her whereas Hoseok is just...so unbelievably calm and dominant about it all. He knows exactly what gets his girl off and itâs sweet how amused he is by Jungkook. You can feel the slight insecurity almost off Jungkook because Hoseok has been with her for years but you can also feel the genuine love the reader has for him, along with the friendship Hoseok obviously has too. I really enjoyed it all!

But then youâve got Hoseok, the new guy on the block whoâs ridiculously good. The sex is just...it feels so realistic and like itâs two people in a relationship having sex and not just being filmed on camera. God I want them together lol

However, you donât quite see it like that. Spending most nights dancing at the club he owns, you catch his eye. Itâs never the wrong side if youâre underneath him, rightâŠ?
; My Thoughts: Look...I still canât believe I read a fic with zombie sex and that I actively WANTED to read a fic with zombie sex lol. But disregarding that, itâs still phenomenally written and the world is built up so well! I loved reading this and it didnât feel as long as itâs word count. The characters were interesting with little tidbits being thrown out there that made you a little more interested in their history.

; My Thoughts: At this point, I think I just love anything by this author. But this fic was so...real and beautiful. The connection between two people who want more from life and deserve from life, who are both stuck. Hoseokâs story is heart breaking and getting to see him slowly come to life and learn to care for himself again was beautiful, while seeing the reader getting to care for herself by caring for him was just beautiful as well.

Maybe they just need a little time to bloom.
; My Thoughts: I love this story so much :333 itâs such an interesting twist on hybridâs in that there are ones who get discarded because theyâre âdefectiveâ. Itâs horrible to think about and I just want to love both of them. Jin is so...sweet and he tries so hard, being the one to put himself out there with the reader because Taehyung is just a sweet and shy bub. Seeing them come to life slowly is so rewarding!

Fred receives another letter from Angelina and must face some tough questions from George.Â

               In your message you said, you were goin' to bed,
But I'm not done with the night. So I stayed up and read, but your words in my head, Got me mixed up so I turned out the light.
And I, don't know how, to slow it down. My mind's racing from chasing pirates.
Fred figured it was just his luck that in the confusion of everyone running from his mother, he ended up in his bedroom with George and Hermione. He also figured it was just his luck he was too angry with his twin brother to censor his words.
âAre you fucking kidding me George?â Fred seethed, trying to keep his voice down as they were in fact still hiding from their mother.
âOh lightenââ
âNo! No, I will not just lighten up! Why?! What was going on in that evil little skull of yours?â Fredâs hand tightened on the towel around his waist as he paced back and forth. He was angry. Angrier than he had ever been at his brother, which was saying something because heâd never actually been cross with George before. Sure, heâd been miffed and on the odd occasion annoyed by his twin brother, and vice versa of course, but never like this. No, he was well and truly pissed off. Which meant this was entirely new territory for the both of them as Fred tried to manage his emotional tirade and George tried to manage Fred.
âWell, Iââ
âYou know how things are with Angelina right now and you knew how I felt and then you had to go and do this? I mean, why would youâtheyââ
âFredââ
ââespecially after what I told you this morning. I mean, I know weâre in it for a laugh and all most of the time, and to be fair this was quite funny. If it were anyone else, it wouldâve been a real gut buster. But come on. This was just cheap!â
âFredââ
âAnd to include Ginny in it? What? Did you tell her?â
âFRED!â George whispered harshly, putting a stop to Fredâs pacing, and clamping his hand over his brotherâs mouth. At first, Fredâs instinct was to rip Georgeâs hand off of his mouth and continue his rant. He was upset. Therefore, he was entitled to as much whinging and scolding as he pleased.
But then he saw Georgeâs eyes flicker to a very confused and sheepish looking Hermione sitting on the edge of Georgeâs bed and that instinct vanished. His eyes grew wide, realizing only then that heâd been freely ranting about Hermione and himself with the girl in question sitting right there. Fucking arsing balls, Fred cursed in his head. How much had he said? Enough to give anything away or only enough to make himself seem like a raving lunatic? He thought about subtly asking George but didnât get the chance.
Their motherâs angry footsteps sounded from the top of the stairs followed by her equally angry voice, âSomeone had better come out here and face me or Iâll be knocking down every single door in this hallway.â
Fredâs head swung from his brother to the door and back. âYou have to go out!â Fred whispered in a panic.
âMe? Why me?â asked George.
Fred looked down at his towel-clad body pointedly and then to Hermione who was still sans shirt. âFirst of all, you owe us. Second, I wonder how mum will feel when she finds Hermione in here with us like this,â said Fred.
Georgeâs face contorted in conflict as the pros and cons of taking the blame for waking up Walburga once again, or having their mother find a half-naked girl in their room. Finally he gave a sort of whiny sigh.
He was just shy of opening their bedroom door when he turned and pointed a finger in Fred and Hermioneâs direction. âI want you two to know that Iâm doing this out of the kindness of my heart and that by going out here Iâm fully proving my remorse for this afternoonâs prank.â
âJust go!â Hermione squeaked, shifting uncomfortably, and holding her arms tightly across her chest.
George took a deep breath and squared his shoulders before opening the heavy oak door with flourish and slamming it behind him quickly. âMum! Youâre looking lovely this afternoon,â said George, his voice muffled as he now stood in the hallway.
âI should have knownââ she sounded aggravated and slightly defeated, thought Fred ââletâs go. Youâre going to help me shut that old bag up and then I think the basement closet needs de-spidering, George Weasley.â
âCome now mum, surely by now youâd be able to tell that Iâm Fred.â
Fred sighed, shaking his head, and smiling against his better judgement. Leave it to George to have the last laugh. âWankerâŠâ Fred mumbled as he crossed the room to his dresser. He dug into one of the drawers and pulled out an old shirt. Throwing it in Hermioneâs direction, he politely averted his eyes and began to grab clothes for himself.
âI didnât know you were a Puddlemere United fan.â
âWhat?â Fred turned, her comment catching him off guard. While it was a Puddlemere United shirt, you couldnât know that unless you were familiar with the navy-blue colour and golden crossed bulrushes.
âPuddlemere United,â Hermione repeated, staring strangely at his hand, and then looking away with a slight blush. Fred look to his hand to find that he was still grasping a pair of striped, blue pants. He turned around again, grabbing a pair of trousers â a brand of muggle jeans Lee had turned him and George onto â before grabbing a clean white shirt.
âYeah. George is a bit more of a Falmouth Falcons fan, but Iâve always preferred Puddlemere. I didnât know you knew anything about quidditch.â
Hermione let out a snort that while rude, Fred found to be quite endearing. âPlease, you canât be friends with Ron and Harry and not know at least a little bit about quidditch. Iâve read Quidditch Through the Ages at least five times.â
âNever would have guessed it from the vacant expression you get on your face every time itâs brought up,â Fred laughed, pulling his shirt over his head. The cotton material felt nice and light in the warm room.
âThatâs because itâs usually Ron going on and on about the Chudley Cannons or how much the Slytherin house team sucks. The same story gets a bit boring over time. Now, if he wanted to talk about the history of quidditch rules and legislature, or the statistical odds of certain teams winning or losing, I might chime in.
âJust when I thought I had you figured out, âMione.â Fred turned but paused, looking between the clothes in his hand and Hermione staring at him once again. While he certainly wasnât shy, he didnât really fancy Hermione getting a full view of hisâŠfull frontal for a second time that day. Especially when she hadnât seemed all too cheery about it the first time. âDo you mind?â
âOh! Um, of courseââ Hermione turned, covering her eyes with her hands ââsorry.â
âSâalright,â Fred laughed. Something about Hermioneâs embarrassment made him feel a whole lot better about the situation. âYou know, I guess I was right.â
âAbout what?â asked Hermione, still facing the other way as Fred zipped up his trousers.
âLast summer when I guessed you were trying to see me and George naked.â
âOh piss off!â Hermione cried, the tremor of a laugh in the back of her throat.
If Fred werenât trying to tease her to make himself feel more comfortable, he probably would have gaped in pure delight that Hermione Granger had just told him to piss off. But, he was, so instead he continued, âYou know if you really wanted to get a look, you just had to ask. Iâm taken, but George would probably say yesâŠand Ron,â Fred hesitated to say the last part. The words had come to the tip of his tongue without him even trying, giving him pause to wonder why his brain was at all interested in what Hermione thought of seeing Ron naked. Because you fancy her, you daft git, scoffed the little voice in his head. Ah yes, there was that he supposed.
Hermione made a disgruntled sound, âYes, I suppose thatâs why Ginny was involved. She probably told George all about how she thinks Ron has a crush on me.â
âYou can uncover your eyes now. Iâm all decent.â Fred crossed the room and settled himself onto his bed, crossing his arms behind his head.
âAre you sure?â asked Hermione in a teasing manner. âIâve been burned twice already today. Iâm not quite sure Iâm ready for a third time.â
âShut up. Youâre fine,â Fred laughed, throwing a pillow at the bookish girl.
âOof,â Hermione grunted, the pillow knocking her to the side but making her laugh all the same. She brought her hands down, hugging the pillow to her chest.
âAnd how do you feel about that?â Fred asked Hermione, trying to make his voice sound as casual as possible.
âAbout what?â she questioned, running her hands over her mussed hair.
âYou know, about Ron liking you or whatever.â
âHonestly?â Hermione asked, sounding like it was a topic she was entirely tired of talking about.
Fred perked up at this, watching Hermione crawl up Georgeâs bed until she was parallel with him.
âIâd rather he didnât,â sighed Hermione, tucking her legs underneath her and scrunching her nose in the way that made Fredâs stomach flip. He watched as his shirt hung on her frame, engulfing her upper half and the top part of her legs. If he didnât know already that she was wearing shorts, he could have easily assumed she was in nothing but her knickers and his shirt. Merlin, he really needed to stop giving her his clothes if this was the direction his brain was going to go every time. He looked away, down at his hands that heâd moved to his lap, now laced together by the fingers.
âWhy? Holding out for someone else?â It was more of a joke than a serious question really â a call back to her hesitancy to accept Viktor Krumâs invitation to the Yule ball. In fact when Fred said it, it was in such a sardonic tone that he never even considered that he might be hitting the nail directly on the head. Fredâs heart gave a sort of leap in his chest when she didnât answer right away. He expected her to tell him off, or throw a pillow at his head, but instead there was silence.
Looking up he was surprised to see Hermione had gone slightly pale, mouth open and eyes wide in panic. âIââ
Before the girl could answer a tap at the window pulled their attention. Fred hopped off his bed and walked to the window where the same stately owl heâd seen a few days prior sat on the ledge. His stomach gave a strange pull as he realized who the owl was most likely for and from. He wasnât prepared for the harsh wave of heat that washed over him when he opened the window. It felt like it had gotten at least five degrees hotter outside. How could it possibly be any hotter? Fred wondered, taking the letter from the owl, and closing the old window tightly as it flew off into the sun-hazed sky.
He held the letter addressed to himself in sweat-slicked hands. Glancing at Hermione who now looked curiously in his direction, Fred thought for a moment that he should perhaps open it later. That way he wouldnât have any questioning looks, or expectant faces. On the other hand though, the curiosity was killing him. He had not written Angelina back since the last time she wrote. Truthfully, the letter didnât feel like it warranted a response and of course heâd been quite busy with the troublesome distraction that currently sat in the room with him. Heâd picked up a quill a few times since but staring at the blank page he felt at a loss for words. What should he write? All things currently of interest in his life felt quite shady and untoward and everything else felt inconsequential. Finally, he decided to just get it over with quickly.
The envelope only tore a little as he opened it carefully before sliding out a letter that was pleasantly longer than the last one heâd received from his girlfriend.
Dear Fred,
I finally got to reading the rest of your letters. Iâm sorry to hear that your summer isnât going as fun as youâd hoped. Where exactly are you anyways? From your letters it sounds like youâre in London. Why didnât you tell me you had family there, you wanker? I would have made you visit them one of these past summers and we could have hung out. London has a lot of cool spots â wish I were there to show you around, but camp lasts all summer long. I guess the only upside to that, is I donât have to listen to my mother whing on and on about my chores or my clothes or whatever else sheâs decided to have a go at for the week.
Fred laughed lightly at the mention of Mrs. Johnson. Angelina had been in a tense war with her mother for the past two years. She swore up and down that her mother was unhappy with anything she did, no matter what. Fred could relate to that. The two of them often swapped stories about their mothersâ disapproval and the wild things theyâd done to stir up trouble in their families. He remembered the amount of begging Angelina had had to do that past spring in order to convince her mother to let her go to the summer-long camp. Mrs. Johnson wasnât too pleased with how athletically inclined Angelina was â convinced that her daughter should be a bit more proper. Secretly, Fred figured Mrs. Johnson finally relented to Angelinaâs request just to have an end to the constant badgering.
Have you thought about taking the day off? Youâre 17 now and youâve got all those galleons from Harry (lucky bastard). Surely you and George could sneak off to Diagon Alley for the day or even muggle London! I can give you a list of places if youâd like.
Things are still busy here.
A large drop of smeared ink painted the parchment after the last sentence, as if sheâd spent a long time contemplating on what to say next, allowing the ink to drop from her quill before messily attempting to clean it up.
Oliverâs been helping me a lot these past few weeks and itâs actually been pretty great! I know what youâre thinking, how can I possibly be surviving? Donât get me wrong, heâs still obsessed with the game in that overly intense way, but heâs not nearly as bad as he was in school. Turns out when heâs not consumed by winning the house cup, heâs quite a cool bloke.
Iâm making a lot of new friends as well! There are some guys from Ilvermorny here, the American school. Theyâre quite loud and brash â it reminds me of you.
Anyway, I should probably wrap this up. Oliverâs promised to show me and a couple other people some defensive techniques heâs learned from Puddlemere.

Fred was left with a sour taste in his mouth. What could Angelina possibly have to tell him that she couldnât have written in a letter? And what was this whole business with Oliver being a âcool blokeâ? Up until that point heâd only ever heard Angelina talk about how much she hated him. He was a crazy, obsessive, misogynistic pig â sheâd said it at least a thousand times over. Especially in the times that Oliver disregarded the women on the team and referred to them all as âmenâ or âguysâ. And what about those guys from Ilvermorny? What were a bunch of Americans doing in England anyways? Didnât they have quidditch camps in the states? Lastly, there was the fact that sheâd signed it âbestâ and not âyoursâ. It was a small thing, but she always wrote âyoursâ, even when they werenât dating.
âWhoâs it from?â
Hermioneâs voice startled Fred. So immersed in the letter and his thoughts of Angelina and Oliver and guys from Ilvermorny, heâd completely forgotten she was still there.
Fred cleared his throat, âAngelina.â
âIs everything alright?â asked Hermione, furrowing her brow, and staring hard at the letter in his hand.
âOf course, why wouldnât it be?â Fredâs voice came out high and crackly, making him feel foolish and completely invalidating his statement that everything was alright.
âWellâŠitâs just that youâve been frowning at that letter for about five minutes now and earlierââ she took a deep breath ââearlier you said something to George about Angelina. It sounded a bit like it was something unpleasant.â
âOhâŠyou caught that?â Hermione Granger had to be the most annoyingly astute witch heâd ever met.
Hermione nodded and stood from the bed, crossing the room to stand before him. She looked nervous, like she was using all her courage to say her next words, âDo you want toââ
âHey!â The door to the room opened and Ginny and Ron came barrelling through. âThe coast is clear. Mumâs got George cleaning out spiders in the basement,â said Ron, now fully clothed and looking a bit pink around the ears as he avoided looking directly at Hermione.
âI just know heâs going to lord that over my head,â sighed Ginny, leaning against the wall and crossing her legs at the ankle. âThe whole thing was his idea anyways. Seems fair that he should take the brunt of the punishment.â
âYou still havenât dealt with the punishment youâll be getting from me Ginevra,â bit Hermione, sending a disapproving look at the younger girl.
âOh come on, Hermione. You know I only had the best intentions. Sânot my fault George mucked it up and you had to see Fredâs bits as well,â said Ginny, pulling a face.
âI very much would have preferred to see no oneâs bits.â
âCan you please stop calling them âbitsâ?â asked Ron, frowning. Fred had to agree with his little brother. There was something incredibly emasculating about the word.
âMenââ Ginny rolled her eyes ââsuch fragile egos. Come on, I think thereâs some lemonade in the kitchen and Iâm parched. Itâs so bloody hot!â
Ginny pushed off the wall and sauntered out of the room followed closely by Ron. Hermione hesitated for a moment, looking up at Fred and then back down at the letter in his hand. Fred quickly folded the letter and shoved it in his pocket. It probably wasnât the best moment to get into him and Angelina anyways.
âCome on, best not to keep them waiting,â he said and made his way out of the room and down towards the kitchen.
Fred didnât see George again until dinner. His twin had emerged from the basement closet looking incredibly tired and slightly squeamish. This pleased Fred immensely as he still felt like Georgeâs full punishment hadnât been served. When everyone had sat themselves down at the long table for their meal, Fred made sure to put as much space between them and Hermione as possible. He needed to have a proper conversation with his brother about that afternoon. Thankfully, they had a few extra guests from the Order and so it was easy to do.
âSo, you didnât tell Ginny about me liking Hermione then?â Fred whispered as he piled potatoes onto his plate.
âOh so now youâre ready to have a civil conversation?â asked George tiredly, taking the potatoes from him and serving himself as well.
âOi, donât get cheeky with me. Youâre still the yob who started this.â
âYouâre right, sorryââ George passed the bowl of potatoes to the wizard beside him who was currently in a deep conversation about transportation restrictions with their father ââno. I didnât tell her. I thought she already knew but turns out she was talking about Ron. Classic case of miscommunication.â
Fred nodded. âMmm, well thatâs good at least. What were you thinking though mate? You couldnât possibly think locking me in the bathroom with Hermione was a good idea.â
âI just thought it would be good to get you two alone together. You know, force you to actually have an open and honest conversation about how you feel,â mumbled George, cutting his ham into little pieces.
âAnd me being naked was supposed to aid in that?â Fred raised an eyebrow, reaching across the table and snagging a roll.
George looked down at his plate, suppressing a very pleased expression. âThought it couldnât hurt. You two looked very cosy this morning. Figured all you needed was a bit of provocation to get the subject flowing,â George admitted.
âYouâre an idiot,â Fred whispered, laughing lightly, and shaking his head. While still quite displeased with his twin, he couldnât dismiss the humour of the situation. âWhat makes you think Hermione and I donât talk already?â
The question seemed to catch George off guard.
âWhat? You thought all those times we were working in our classroom and reading in the library, we were sitting there in silence?â Fred questioned hypothetically.
âWell, you certainly couldnât have been saying anything of substance. Otherwise youâd both have finally admitted your feelings for each other.â
Fred let out a long breath. âGeorgie, you know youâre my favourite person in the whole worldââ Fred started.
âIâm touched, Freddie.â George brought a hand up to his heart.
ââsome would say I even love you like a brother,â Fred went on.
âNot sure I could say the same, sorry.â
âBut, at the end of the day I am in a relationship with Angelina. It wouldnât be fair to her if I were to go behind her back with Hermione. And Hermioneââ
âYou canât still tell me you think she likes Ronââ
âNo. Actually she told me the exact opposite earlier this afternoon,â Fred confessed, trying not to focus on the way his heart lifted a little at the thought. âBut it doesnât mean she likes me either. Hermione is a nice girl. She deserves a hell of a lot better than me and even if she did like me, well like I said. That wouldnât be fair to Angelina.â
âIs it fair to Angelina though for you to keep going out with her when you fancy someone else?â challenged George, bringing his voice to barely a whisper as they both leaned in to make their conversation more private.
âI⊠ââ Fred struggled with the words ââitâs complicated. I still fancy Angelina too. Itâs not like Iâm dating her for nothing. Sheâs great. Sheâs one of my best friends, sheâs tough, sheâs fit, she loves quidditch, and weâve known each other forever. I canât justâŠI canât just give that up because I also fancy someone else.â
âDo you fancy Angelina though?â
âWhat?â
âDo you actually fancy Angelina.â
âI just said I did, didnât I?â Fred felt lost. What was George getting at?
âYes, but you just listed things you like about her. Things most blokes like about her. Bloody hell, things I like about her â no offence. But, and correct me if Iâm wrong, arenât relationships supposed to be a bit deeper or some emotional crap like that? You know, something a bit more than just âweâre mates, and she lets me shag herâ?â
âIâŠwell on that logic then how do you know itâs not just the same thing with Hermione?â
âAre you shagging Hermione?â George asked, eyebrows raising high.
âNo, but the idea doesnât sound half bad. What if itâs more of a âweâre mates, and I want to shag herâ situation?â Fred took a large bite of his dinner roll and reached forward to grab his glass of pumpkin juice.
âHonestly, Freddie? Thatâs a bit out of my wheelhouse. But you should probably figure that out. Sooner rather than later,â said George lightly before taking a mouthful of stewed carrots.
Fred swallowed the bite of roll and scoffed into his glass. âThanks for that. Great advice,â he said sarcastically before drinking deeply from his cup.
George grabbed his own glass and raised it lightly before answering, âBetter advice than you get anywhere else. Cheers, mate.â

I know Iâm not supposed to say anything, but I think thatâs rubbish. I think you deserve to know that youâre not alone. Despite the lack of action from the ministry, I want you to know that there are people out there taking this seriously.
When you get here, youâll understand.
Hermione crossed out her third attempt at writing Harry before crumpling the parchment and throwing it angrily in the bin beside her. This is impossible, she thought forlornly. Sheâd been having an internal battle for the past two weeks on whether she should follow Dumbledoreâs instructions or go with her gut. Every fibre of her being wanted to tell Harry what was going on, to let him know that he wasnât alone in this fight. But her foolish and incessant need to follow directions and stay out of trouble stopped her every time. Professor Dumbledore was a wise man. He was smart. Most importantly, he knew a lot more about what was going on than she did. So, it would make sense for her to keep her nose out of all of this and simply follow his lead. But despite her headmasterâs in-depth knowledge on most things, Hermione knew one thing to be true. He didnât know Harry Potter nearly as well as she did.
Professor Dumbledore had insisted that they neednât worry Harry on the comings and going of the Order and the efforts being put in place against a now fully risen dark lord. He needed time to heal from what happened the previous year with Cedric Diggory. That was all well and nice except that if you knew Harry at all, then you knew that he never stopped worrying. He was definitely the suffer in silence, woe is me, martyr type and usually the only thing that did stop him from worrying and obsessing was action. Harry Potter needed control, or heâd go insane. Usually this control came in two different forms. The first was distraction. If he couldnât have direct control of a situation heâd resort to quidditch or flying or something else physical to take his mind off whatever it was. The second was involvement. Harry wouldnât stop until heâd solved the mystery, and everything was put right in his mind. Thatâs why they hadnât ceased their research first year until they figured out the secret to the philosopherâs stone. Or why their second year had ended in Harry fighting a basilisk underneath the school. Or why heâd declared to kill Sirius Black himself when heâd found out what he thought to be the truth of his parentâs deaths.
But Hermione knew that Harry, currently locked in the confines of his aunt and uncleâs muggle neighbourhood, was unable to do either and so she was certain the only thing heâd been doing the past month was stewing in internal misery. The fact that heâd neglected to respond to her and Ronâs letters thus far, not even their birthday wishes, only proved her theory right.
Dumbledore may be an expert on the innerworkings of the ministry, but Hermione was an expert on the innerworkings of Harry Potter. So, surely it would be best if she told him something. She had to be able to get some sort of message to him that wouldnât reveal too much if intercepted by the ministry or Voldemortâs people. Just something that would quell the frustration that was surely rising in her best friend.
However, the right words simply were not coming to her yet, so she rested her quill back down on the table and corked her ink bottle firmly, before moving to her bed and sitting down huffily. She needed to focus on something else or before she knew it sheâd turn into Harry.
Picking up the small ball of yarn and worn wooden knitting needles on her bed, Hermione started in on her practice. Recently sheâd taken up knitting as both a hobby and a way to further her work with the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare. This came entirely from an event that took place a week prior when sheâd simultaneously met Kreacher and seen the horror that was the Black familyâs legacy of house elves.
âWhat ARE those?!â Hermione screamed, jumping back, and toppling into Ron who had been following her into the fourth-floor study.
They had been tasked with cleaning out the old Black patriarchâs study.
âBloody hell, Hermione. What?!â yelled Ron, catching her in his arms and putting her right on her feet.
But Hermione ignored his question, too overwhelmed by the sickening sight before her. On the wall, sitting above the bookshelves opposite the stately mahogany desk were the heads of house elves mounted to the wall. They hung stuffed, pale, and lifeless like common animals on display. It made her sick.
âOh that is twisted,â said Ron, having now entered the room and seen what had made Hermione scream.
âIâwhyâwho would do something like this?â Hermione asked, torn between her inability to stomach the sight of the house elvesâ severed heads, and the sheer shock of it keeping her eyes glued to them.
âThat would be my dear mother again, Iâm afraid,â came Siriusâ voice. Hermione imagined he must have been nearby, most likely visiting Buckbeak in the attic, heard her scream, and came to investigate.
âThis is disgustingâŠthis is barbaric. How could anyone do something like this?â she asked, feeling tears begin to well in her eyes.
âYouâd be surprised. Itâs an old practice in pureblood families, not really done anymore, but at one time house elves saw it as a badge of honour to have themselves commemorated like this after they diedââ Sirius strolled into the room, looking up at the mounted heads, hands casually in his pockets ââI never cared for it though. Absolutely refuse to do it for Kreacher when he finally croaks.â
âKreacher?ââ Hermione was finally able to pull her gaze away from the elves to look at Sirius ââyou mean thereâs a house elf here?â
âCourse there is!â cried Sirius in surprise, tone laced with a bitter edge.
âDonât worry Hermione. He doesnât do any of the cooking or cleaning or anything like that,â interjected Ron in a reassuring manner that did very little to actually reassure her.
âHow did I not know about this?â she asked, feeling overwhelmed and dazed.
âWell, my mum always said a good house elf was one that got the job done but was rarely seen. Canât say thatâs very true of Kreacher though. He clearly only holds up half of that statement. In factââ Sirius, turned looking about the empty study around him ââKreacher!â
With a pop, a small little house elf popped into existence before him. He was different than the house elves Hermione had seen before. He seemed older, more haggard, and dirty. His nose was long and droopy, and the cloth he wore for clothes was so dirty, it looked to be more filth than it was material. Kreacher sneered nastily up at his master and then around the room, spotting Ron and Hermione. Hermione didnât think it was possible, but his expression turned even nastier once he saw them.
âFilthy mudblood, blood-traitors alike. Tarnishing my mistressâs house like this,â mumbled the little house elf and catching Hermione completely off guard. Youâd think the words would hurt less after hearing them so much in the last four years, but they held a fresh sting every time. The only thing that had changed was her ability to better mask the hurt she felt.
âGive it a rest you vile little thing,â grimaced Sirius, surprising Hermione even more than Kreacherâs words.
Ever since sheâd arrived at Grimmauld Place, sheâd acknowledged that Sirius held a certain disdain to his childhood home. However, she had yet to experience the level of contempt the older wizard held for the house elf before him.
âOf course Master Black. Kreacher is sorry. What can Kreacher do for you?â responded Kreacher in a mocking tone. The words, while objectively respectful, held no trace of true respect whatsoever.
âYes, Iâm sure you are,â said Sirius sarcastically. âI need you to dispose of these disgusting relics immediately.â Sirius pointed up at the row of heads, looking as disgusted as Hermione still felt about both them, and the behaviour of the two individuals before her.
âNo! Those are mistressâs! Kreacher refuses,â cried the old house elf in outrage.
âIt was not a request, you disgusting beast. I am your master, and I am ordering you to take those vile things down and throw them away. Do you understand me?â spat Sirius, crossing his arms, and glaring down at Kreacher.
âYes master Black. Of course.â
Hermione had been in such a shock after that that she had left the room and retreated to the kitchen. While she truly needed a cup of tea to calm her nerves, it was still too hot and so sheâd allowed Ron to pour her a glass of pumpkin juice as she processed the event. Sure, the things Kreacher said were horrible and hurtful, but look at the way Sirius treated him! Maybe if Kreacher was met with a little kindness, he wouldnât feel the need to be so mean. And the headsâŠshe didnât even know where to begin with the headsâŠ
It was at that moment, that Hermione formulated a plan. The house elves clearly needed a way out, whether they knew it or not. So, that afternoon sheâd gone to Mrs. Weasley to borrow knitting supplies and get a few lessons.
âHey Hermione, have you seen Fred and George?â Ronâs voice from the doorway, brought Hermioneâs attention away from the complicated mess of yarn in her hands. Sheâd gotten her knit and purl stitches confused and was currently trying to figure out which direction her yarn was supposed to be facing. Looks like she needed more practice.
âWhy would I know where they are?â she asked, frowning back down at her work, and cursing under her breath. A few of her stitches had slipped off her needles.
Ron gave a short laugh, snorting through his nose. âCome on Hermione. You spend more time with them these days than anyone else.â
âIâmââ
âDonât give me that âIâm helping them with their schoolworkâ excuse, Hermione. Iâm not thick. Youâre helping them with their inventions arenât you,â said Ron, crossing the room and leaning against one of the posts of Ginnyâs bed.
âJust a little,â Hermione admitted sheepishly. There was no point in lying to Ron about it now.
âI knew it!â Ron cried enthusiastically. âAre you also helping fund them? They seem to have a lot more money these days than not.â
âNo, Iâm not, but Iâve actually been wondering the same thing!â said Hermione with equal fervour. The last sheâd heard, the two of them were still trying to get their money back from Ludo Bagman. Perhaps her suggestion of blackmail the previous year had finally worked. Though if it did, she didnât want to know anything about it.
âHmm, strange,â Ron commented, staring down at the heap of yarn in her hands in confusion. He was probably wondering what she could possibly be making, but thankfully he was kind enough to not make any comments. âYou know helping those two is going to become a conflict of interest when you become a Prefect, right?â
âWhat makes you think Iâm going to make Prefect?â
Ron snorted once again. âCome on Hermione, are you telling me youâve thought there was any other alternative.â
Hermione felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment. As much as she tried to keep a level of humility to her, she had to admit that the notion that any other Gryffindor girl in their year would be chosen for Prefect felt preposterous. This was something sheâd been working towards since first year.
âI donât help them that much. Mostly itâs just a bunch of reading their notes and telling them where their magic is wrong. Nothing wrong with that â itâs educational really,â she half lied.
âOh yeah. Educational,â Ron snickered, pushing off from the bedpost and walking towards the door. âWell if you do see them, tell them mumâs looking for them.â
âWill doââ Hermione went to return to her knitting but stopped, looking up at his retreating figure ââwait, where are you off to then?â
Ron turned, leaning in the doorframe now. âProfessor Lupinâs downstairs. I convinced him to teach me how to play chess.â
âBut you already know how to play chessâŠâ Hermione gave him a wry smile.
âYeah, but he doesnât know that. Iâve bet Sirius ten sickles I can go at least four games before he realizes Iâm hustling him,â said Ron, a large grin spreading across his freckled face.
Hermione let out a small laugh and shook her head before saying, âI swear, you get more and more like Fred and George every day.â
âThose wankers? Absolutely not.â
And with that, Ron disappeared into the hallway, a little more pep in his step than usual. A smile remained plastered on Hermioneâs face for long after Ron had left. She felt warm and content in the way only a cheerful and easy encounter with a friend could leave you feeling. Her and Ron had settled into an unspoken understanding after the mortifying bathroom encounter. Of course neither of them spoke of it, both choosing to act as though it had never happened. In a strange way, it was almost as if they needed the uncomfortable situation to become comfortable with each other again. Ron seemed less dopey and more relaxed around her, and as a result Ginny stopped talking about Ronâs feelings for her.
The same sentiment went for twins. It was as if the little bit of chaos was all the group needed to fall back once again into the comfortable friendships that had existed before. Hermione still felt her stomach flip and heartrate increase every time Fred entered a room or brushed past her too closely in the hallway, but she tried to ignore that as much as possible. That was her problem after all, not anyone elseâs. And most of all she didnât want to ruin her friendship with Fred over her stupid crush.
They had grown closer than ever over the past two weeks. Most likely due to their new tradition of late nights in the library of Grimmauld Place. When everyone had retired for the night, tucked in snuggly in their beds, Hermione and Fred would slip from their sheets and reconvene on the old couch of the library, till late in the night. They discussed Fredâs inventions, their interests, and their lives. It usually ended in some kind of debate, but Hermione always found herself laughing in the end. Sheâd never been able to talk so freely with anyone. It was both a blessing and a curse.
When her yarn had tangled for the fifth time, Hermione sighed and gave up. Instead, she opted to make her way down to the kitchen for a snack. Dinner was soon, but sheâd missed tea that afternoon and was feeling too peckish to wait.
âCheckmate,â said Ron proudly as he stared smugly at the rumpled wizard sitting across from him at the kitchen table.
âHi Professor,â Hermione greeted, eyeing a plate of Chelsea buns on the kitchen counter.
âHello Hermione,â said Professor Lupin tiredly, his head balanced in his hands as he stared in bewilderment at the chess board in front of him. Sirius sat beside his old friend, snickering silently into his hand.
Hermione suppressed her negative emotions towards the suave, long-haired wizard. Seeing the way he treated Kreacher had left her less than pleased with him.
âYou swear youâve never played before?â Professor Lupin questioned Ron suspiciously.
Ron shook his head in mock innocence and Hermione had to turn away in hide her smile.
She grabbed a bun, taking a large bite out of it and sitting down at the table beside Ron to watch him square off with their old teacher again. The pair had gotten through exactly five and a half games before Professor Lupin had declared in frustration that there was no way Ron had never played wizardâs chess before.
Everyone in the room burst into laughter at that point, the twins and Ginny having wandered into the kitchen and joined in on the fun knowing full well that Ron was better at wizardâs chess than anyone theyâd ever met. After that Professor Lupin refused to play anymore games, but Sirius and George stepped up to try and beat Ron in a combined effort.
Ron had just managed to corner their queen when Mr. Weasley came striding into the room with purpose.
âHey dad!â Ginny greeted cheerfully. But her good humour melted away when her father ignored her greeting.
Arthur Weasley looked worried. Worried and frantic. Hermione had only ever seen that expression on his face once before â at the Quidditch World Cup.
âRemus, Sirius, emergency Order meeting now. Whereâs Molly?â
âSheâs upstairs I think, shall I go get her?â asked Sirius.
âNo, Iâll go. Other members should be arriving soon, have them meet in the dining room.â
Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Fred, and George were all ushered out of the kitchen shortly after that. None of their pleas to stay or questions were acquiesced or answered of course. So instead, they opted to sit at the top of the stairs and gleam as much information as they could from the members that entered headquarters. Hermione assumed it must be serious. Ron told her that they had never had an emergency meeting like this before. This fact was only solidified in her mind when Dumbledore arrived looking quite grave, his long robes billowing behind him as he stormed down the entry hall and disappeared through the doorway to the dining room. Professor Snape was with him, a fact that caught Hermione by surprise.
âProfessor Snape is in the Order?â she asked George sitting next to her.
He nodded and whispered back, âUnfortunately. The slimy git only comes around every once in a while. Always thought heâd be on the other side, but if Dumbledore trusts him, then he must know something we donât.â
âItâs clear he knows a lot of things we donât,â said Hermione, beginning to worry the inside of her bottom lip. It had to be Harry. Something this serious and this panicked always had to do with Harry.
That suspicion was confirmed a few hours later at dinner when Mr. Weasley told them that Harry had been accused of underage magic by the ministry earlier that night. Apparently, the ministry had tried to expel him outright, but Professor Dumbledore had insisted on a trial before they went to such extreme punishment. Hermione was more concerned as to why Harry needed to use magic at all than the thought of him being expelled. Apparently he had produced a patronus in front of a muggle. There was only one reason Harry would produce a patronus â dementors. Dementors in a muggle suburb? Now that was cause for concern on many levels.
Hermione ate very little at dinner, too consumed by the problem at hand. The ministry had complete control of the dementors. Only they could dispatch dementors away from Azkaban. Was this the Ministerâs way of getting rid of Harry? To easily solve their problem of him? If this didnât work, what else would they do? What lengths would they go to silence Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter?
A little voice in the back of her head proposed that perhaps Harry had gone looking for trouble that night. Or worked himself up so much that he imagined the dementors and tried to play the hero. Guiltily she thought of the half-finished unsent letters in the garbage bin in her room and wondered if this would have happened if she hadnât been too meek to break the rules and give her best friend a glimmer of hope.
All these thoughts and questions stuck with her well into the night. Lying in bed, staring up at the darkness of the ceiling above, sleep evaded her worse than ever before. Sitting up, Hermione peaked over at Ginnyâs snoring form in the bed beside hers and slipped from the covers. She padded silently out of the room, down the hall, and down the stairs to the library. While the days events had been out of the ordinary, Hermione hoped that her and Fredâs tradition would remain, and she would find him in the library. The urge to talk to him itched at the back of her head fervently.
However, when she got to library, she found the door cracked and the whispered voices of Professor Lupin and Sirius drifted out. Hermione held her breath, turning away from the door and tiptoeing back towards the stairs. She didnât need to listen in on their conversation to know they were most like talking about Harry. Once back on the third floor, Hermione found herself at a standstill. She should go back to bed. It was no use wandering the dark and grim house at night when she was already out of sorts. However, instead of making her way to her own bed, Hermione found herself walking not to her door, but Fred and Georgeâs. Like an invisible pull at her centre, she gravitated towards it like a planet in orbit.
Not bothering to knock considering the late hour, Hermione quietly opened the door and slipped inside. She walked silently to Fredâs bed and found him sound asleep. Sheâd never seen him asleep before â up until that point she didnât think she could be any more handsome than he already was, but up until that point sheâd never seen him blissfully gone to the world.
As if sensing her presence, his eyes opened, blinking slowly as he took in her presence.
ââMione? I thought youâd gone to bed. Went looking for you earlier but Black and Lupin were in the library,â he whispered, his voice low and gravelly.
âI canât sleepâŠâ
They stared at each other in the dark for what felt like ages. It was as if they were experiencing group thought, both of them teetering on the edge of a decision they were both unsure of. Hermione should go back to her own room. She shouldnât be sneaking into the room of a boy who had a girlfriend. She should beâ
âGet in,â Fred whispered, lifting the covers, and pushing them both of the edge.
Hermione didnât need to be told twice. She slipped into the covers, burying herself deeply into their warmth. It had been a heatwave for the past two weeks, but the house felt colder that night than it ever had.
âMerlin, your feet are freezing,â Fred whispered when Hermioneâs feet accidentally brushed his own.
Hermione moved them away quickly. âSorry,â she whispered back in embarrassment.
Fred surprised her by reaching down and hook his hand around the back of her leg and pulling her feet flush with his own. âGive âem here,â he grumbled before releasing her leg and settling back into the mattress with a deep sigh.
Hermione smiled into the darkness and rolled over onto her side. She kept a safe distance of propriety between them, making sure the only thing touching was their feet. Her head fell heavy on the pillow and for the first time that night she was able to relax.
âFred?â she whispered tentatively.
âWhat?â came the soft sound of Fredâs voice back.
âThank you.â
Fred didnât answer, instead he shifted, and Hermione felt his hand fall atop hers, gripping it tightly. It took barely minutes for Hermione to fall asleep to the firm and grounding feel of Fredâs thumb rubbing the delicate skin on the back of her hand.

Globe-hopping is hell on a wardrobe and hard on the feet. Sometimes you have to get out of the limo to spend your money.
Michael Hutchence rarely comes to New York without luggage monogrammed INXS or Max Q, so one would think that on a visit without portfolio, the last thing he'd want to do is add on more baggage. But given a free day, a book of tickets, and our offer to go anywhere to do anything, Hutchence got into the limo with an agenda we could hardly call a new sensation. What kept us from sulking was that he hadn't left the devil outside.
Michael: You think we can load this car up with Yamamoto, Comme des Garcons, and Armani by 6?
Hal: Driver, step on it. Down to Grand and make a left.
[The car turns onto Union Square West.]
Isn't there a club on the corner here?
The Underground.
That's the one that keeps surviving regardless of how many people get shot there. How many are they up to?
No one's quite sure.
Where are we now? I don't recognise this.
This strip of lower Broadway didn't exist last time you were here. Now it's like a mall-less town's Main Street.
And Tower Records is City Hall. Not bad. It's wild to see this much activity because people around the world now talk about New York in terms of decay, how New York is such a rude place, and we keep telling them, No, New Yorkers are quite friendly, we like it there. New Yorkers are just very honest. They don't have time to bullshit. I like New York because people are linked to each other. L.A. Is fun, but segregated. Here there is a metro, and a different philosophy of getting around so there's rich upon poor upon rich. The only thing I don't remember is how many homeless are asleep on Park Avenue and everywhere else. Or is it my imagination?
No, it's real. How come you choose to live in Hong Kong instead of Australia?
For about three years, I thought it didn't matter where I lived. But I kept passing through it again. I grew up there, from when I was four until twelve. My dad still lives there. It has great energy, like New York. And it's ten hours closer to the world than Australia is. If you travel a lot, it adds up.
[We enter the Yohji Yamamoto store.]
So austere. Do they go wild if you hand back anything wrinkled? Those clothes over there are good acid-house colors. Has acid house caught on here?
Not like in England.
That's 'cause New York has bad radio. Are these dogs always here? They must sleep in the shoes. Ooh, look at these here. Not very me, but very Star Trek. $500 for a T-shirt. I see. I'll buy six. No, twelve. Now, here is something very stagy. Ultraflouncy. I like that, but the general consensus might kill my career.
Is what you wear onstage the same as you wear off?
I sort of smush them all together. My favorite piece of clothing is a leather jacket I had made for me that says âHutchâ in chain mail on the back.
Did Michael Schmidt make it for you?
Yeah â how'd you know? He's great. He sort of looks like a beautiful snake. He loves all the Hollywood stuff, but he's so sincere when he talks about it. Almost makes me like it. Is there somewhere funkier we can go, like Yankel's House of Pile? I saw that on the way down.
If you want old clothes, we should go to Cheap Jack's.

Do you enjoy recognition?
Depends on where I am.
Like when you're out on your own. Shopping, for instance.
Shopping, yeah, 'cause I get discounts. And there is a definite bonus to recognition when I'm onstage.
It makes the night go faster. But I'm not an institution yet. Sometimes I think about how hard it must be for someone like Bob Hope to go for a stroll. I don't really get hassled. I can stand in the middle of a street in London, or even New York, and usually nothing happens. I don't think I have that distinctive of a face. I got recognized in Tangier once, going by in a taxi, very fast ⊠from a distance ⊠in a fog ⊠during monsoon season. Just kidding. It's odd how once you are conscious of being watched, you stop being so self-conscious because you realize there's nothing you can do about it. Of course, nobody in Hong Kong gives a shit who I am.
Aren't people there freaking about the city's eventual realignment with China?
Thousands are leaving a year, but they're the ones who can afford to leave, to give Australia half a million to let them in, though a lot more are going to Vancouver or New Zealand instead because they've heard, and it's fairly true, about Australia's racism.
It's actually more like unconscious racism. There's a naivete to it that you might call charming if it wasn't so sick. See, most foreigners don't realize â because we refuse to believe it ourselves â that Australia is southern Asia. Australia is linked to England in everyone's minds.
Yet most Australians don't have the faintest idea why the Japanese tried to invade us during the Second World War, and can't understand why they might not have wanted any foreigners on the biggest island in the Asian paradise. If we had lost, my home would be covered in rice paddies by now. Australia would have been Japan's Great Plains, their grain barrel.
I've never met one Australian who knows that. We have it so easy in Australia. It's very easy to live there. Tougher than it was before, but that's because five years ago it was ridiculous. I used to live in a three-story, five-bedroom house. It cost me $20 a week.
Did you make that much playing music?
Nah, but so what, we were all on the dole. Everyone went on it. That's one of the reasons you have so many bands in Australia. It's cheap to live and collect, so all the bands go on it. You wouldn't even have to go pick up your employment check; they'd mail it to you or transfer it to your account. Ready cash. I guess because there is such an anti-authoritarian vibe in Australia that people are quite happy to accept government checks. âAw, screw 'emâ - that's the attitude. Lots of people accept four and five checks or even have jobs. It's very lax. That's why we're stuck with the tall-poppy syndrome.
Translation?
Don't be successful, don't rise above your mates, or you'll get chopped. It's weird. It's the don't-leave-the-pub way of life. I think people in America are generally happy for someone's good fortune; they know how to let themselves go. In Australia, they go, âGood, mate,â and don't ask a single question. There are no celebrations for a job well done. I'm still shocked at how Americans cheer you on when they like you. I know you don't fancy it anymore, but I like phrases like âdress for success.â
And that's why you're shopping here?
I love hideous ties. Girls love 'em. Dunno why. Its like red socks. Are the playing Richard Hell? I haven't heard this song in 20 years. God, you must hear better music in clothing stores than you do anywhere else in New York. All these baseball jackets are so cheap. You know what they pay for these in Australia? I should buy the whole lot, take them back. I'd never have to tour again. I could get 150 to 200 bucks just for the ratty ones. I think this is the first clothing store I've been in that wasn't playing videos.
Are videos big in Australia?
We've actually been involved in music video a whole lot longer than in America. Because we are so far away, the only way we've had to understand all this music flying around the world is through video. Since the '50s, even when it was only 10 minutes a week, Aussie tv has been showing music videos.
And we don't censor the way you guys do. The âWay of the Worldâ single is a very serious song, but MTV is quite shy of the video, you should note â I say this diplomatically. They censor here for all the wrong reasons. Like it's okay to stare at Cher's crotch for four minutes, but it's hard to say something truthful about the state of the world.
Could it be because with a group that's become as wildly successful as INXS has, it's inevitable that favorable reaction always turns?
I don't think INXS has reached that point yet. Give us four more years. We've only recently become hip in England. At the beginning, they hated our guts.
Why?
'Cause we are Australians writing pop music, why else? They don't make much in England, apart from nice jumpers and Jaguars, and one of the few things they can claim some turf on is pop music. So, they're not happy when someone else does it. It's a standard trait of island people; they're very territorial.
But you guys are island people too.
Yeah, but we got a bigger island. Now, if we can just get rid of some competition from the expatriate colonies.
Isn't it enough already with this rivalry between Australia and England? L.A. And New York have settled their feud.
England still treats Australia like we're descendants of convicts. Well, I guess we are, aren't we? We're trying to get rid of them, but unfortunately, they're coming back with money and buying up half the country. Don't you resent the Japanese buying Rockefeller Center?
I resent the Rockefellers more.
[Having tried on everything and bought nothing, Hutchence decides against old clothes. We head down to If boutique.]
Armand Basi. Nice stuff. That Claude Montana is fabulous, but God, this stuff is expensive. We don't know anyone here for a discount, do we? My father used to design clothes for a shop in Hong Kong called Dynasty. Glitzy evening wear for too much money. One year, when we did our first tour, we bough ta lot of Sprouse, real colorful stuff, and we spent a fortune, especially when you consider it's disposable fashion. All it had to do was last a month. All the buttons fell off, it shrunk, seams opened up. We would have been more upset, but it made us homesick for the mother country. Disposable fashion is very English. The nice thing about it when it comes from there, however, is that even though the stuff falls apart, it's cheap.
Ah, I like this. Very sexy, very smart. Basi, right? I found the best underwear. I think it's called Nikos. Someone gave it to me last night. Well, that's a plug. No names, please. These pants might go with the Basi shirt. [Like Navy pants, they have over a dozen buttons instead of a fly.] Not good clubwear. Certainly not quick enough to please me.
Your choice of underwear would have to be very discreet.
And always clean. Maybe these pants come with a catheter. Should I ask the shopgirl? [He raises his arm to call her and, wincing, puts it down.]

No. I think I have a cracked rib, from too much fun the other night at Inflation, this super club in Melbourne. Melbourne has some of the best clubs in the world. Great people. Amazing clubs. Sydney has nothing. Boring as hell. Nice place if you're a surfer. Really pretty, like L.A. But very corrupt, Sydney. Everyone is always paying everyone off. That's why you can't afford to do a club there. It's like, in order to get a club license, all the other nightclub owners have to agree to your having a license. And four people control the voting on that. Melbourne now has a club called Razor that is so exciting. It used to an automobile club, especially popular during the '50s, where people used to talk about their cars, you know, with photos of Mini-Minors making hairpin turns around corners. Like a racing club, I guess, except for slower cars. Razor gets the best people.
[He picks up a pair of huge, get-lost-in-the-rain-forest-and-survive black shoes and delights.]
Many people have shoe fetishes. I guess it's around the world actually, not just with Imelda. I think people are probably just jealous of her because they secretly wanted so many pair. But these are big, like size big. Are Americans getting larger feet, or do they just want more room? I always notice shoes when I'm here.
There's almost like a $100 tax on shoes in Australia. Like a pair that will cost you $50 here will cost you almost $200 in Australia. A pair of Levi's cost $100. I never buy furniture in Australia, either, and I have an obsession with furniture the way Americans love shoes. It's a shame I don't have an obsession with homes, too, since I have no place to put all the furniture. I have it stored all over the world.
Let me get the Basi shirt, and then I want to buy records. I would get them later, but I just remembered I have a friend coming in tonight for only one night. He and his father are trying to get down to Nicaragua. They're helping Ortega keep the Contras back. Good luck. What's so weird about their going is that these guys are publishing magnates in England. Entrepreneurs. They should be serious Thatcherites, but they just hate Thatcher. Real lefties.
If everyone is so vocal of their dislike of her, how come she's so strong?
The British love her because they love to be miserable; they love to complain. Thatcher's become irrepressible. She's finally showing signs of faltering, except she's winning by default, because no one wants to put Kinnock in, either. It's like your Dan Quayle. What an alternative.
Are Australians political?
It's compulsory to vote, if you want to call that political. Frankly, nobody particularly gives a fuck. That doesn't mean Australians are not aware people. I think they know more about what's going on in the rest of the world than the average American, but that's because they have to compensate for being in the middle of nowhere. They're more concerned about international politics, about the environment. Every time the Americans come into Sydney harbor with their nuclear ships and submarines, there's always 5,000 people telling them to fuck off.
But the hell with domestic politics?
Do you know anything about our system? It's built on a bickering sort of war. The front page is always about politicos throwing shit at each other, spending more time insulting each other than governing.
Mind you, they are really very good at it. It's a fine Australian tradition of political insult. Listening to parliament is hilarious - âShut up, you bastard!â - and that's our prime minister, Bob Hawke. He's in the Guinness Book of World Records for having drunk a yard of beer in record time. He is actually a brilliant leader, a Rhodes scholar at Oxford, and he has done a bloody good job, considering the apathy he's up against. What he should be real pleased about its restoring pride in being Australian, particularly after all that nonsense when the governor general dismissed Prime Minister Whitlam in 1975.
How was that possible without the consent of the Australian parliament?
We're still a colony. I think a lot of us were cynical after that. They felt like puppets. Probably had something to do with the CIA. The good old CIA. I'm in their files, I found out. That they should waste their time on me. I'm listed as subversive, for my lyrics to âGuns in the Skyâ and because I once threw condoms out to the audience in Northern Australia.
How is that subversive?
The more north you get in Australia, the more it is like the South in America. The man who ran Queensland, one of the biggest states in Australia, was this guy, Joh Peterson, who was in power for over 20 years. Peterson was this sort of South African leftover who arrived in Australia, and he made things illegal, like sex education, abortion, condoms to minors â you couldn't have the vending machines in clubs. [You can now.] Well, I slandered him, and so I got taken to court, where he was thrown out of office from the corruption uncovered during the proceedings.
Did that make you a hero down there?
Say what, mate? This is Australia, remember. Our heroes are bushrangers, outlaws, and sporting stars. If you're an athlete, you can get away with anything.
[Hutchence purchases the Basi shirts, and then we head to Tower Records at the corner. A street person approaches us.]

[We go through the revolving door and right to the rock section; within three minutes, Max Q is playing on the system.]

Holy shit. When did they take this thing? What a bizarre likeness. I hardly know this guy. This is not an approved photo. [He gets the attention of a young lady behind the counter.] Excuse me, please, this is not an approved photo. It's a pirate. Do you know where you get these from?
Salesgirl: âNo idea.â

I'm going to answer it this way, because I'm actually not a fan of some of those, and I've heard this is the way to do it if you don't want it ending up in the tag or the search I think? If i censor any of the ship names it's not out of malice! I simply don't want any of this to end up in front of eyes that just want to enjoy their ships đđđ if there is anyone who doesn't want to see opinions against t*d*d*ku, k*r*b*ku, or even iz**ch*ka, please don't read any further! Oh my goodness i hope this is all legible...

I'll start out by confirming that I'm not a multishipper. It makes me excited to see how the act of shipping itself can make others happy, but it's just not that way for me. I actually never read fanfic until I got into bnha (bkdk is just that powerful đđ) I'm actually...a little serious when i ship, or when i enjoy media, i analyze pretty heavily, so also, if that doesn't sound like anyone's cup of tea, i would once again recommend to stop reading and enjoy your day please!
I love analyzing characters and storylines and dynamics, but i will admit, I'm not a fan of most of the ships - not romantically. I think all the characters have interesting relationships to each other, all of the kids are great friends, and I love bonds and friendships so much đ„șđ„șđ„ș
Those first two are perhaps the biggest, at least they definitely were the biggest when I first entered. Once i caught up, I didn't really understand the enthusiasm, but people have fun shipping, so that's nice! I think of those two as easy ships, if that makes sense? They're pretty simple, and easy to digest.
I personally am not a fan of romantic t*d*d*ku for a very specific reason; it feels weird to me for Todo to immediately fall in love with the first person who's ever shown him kindness (since his mother of course). Todo had never had any friends, nor any want for friends, obviously because of the abuse he faced as a child. Mido was his first exploration at a life outside of his father, a life he got to make for himself, it just doesn't feel right to me that he should immediately think "oh, is this romantic love? Is this the one and only for me?" Well, perhaps a teenager might think that way, but i don't think that's actually how he feels deep down, and I'm sure that's something a lot of us have to learn as we grow (I've definitely struggled with my own understanding of romance for the past 8 years). I think he still is trying to learn how to socialize and to make friends and to be a friend (and he's doing SUCH a good job!) But to immediately plunge into romance, which can be complicated, i don't think that would be right for him. I hope that makes sense! I know they're a very cute ship, which makes for fun! But again, I can be a little serious when i ship...
K*r*b*ku kind of falls into similar territory for me? Baku definitely had friends growing up, but he's seemed to always have trouble understanding his feelings and where he stands with others, causing trust issues. Kiri is really the first person he knew where he stood with, a person for him to be comfortable with and feel on equal ground, which i think is such a huge and positive role in his life, and i don't necessarily think that it needs to be romantic - for both of these, i think these relationships are incredibly important, to everyone involved, and making them romantic doesn't make them any more important!! In fact, i feel like them as friends actually can offer a more complex, interesting, and human dynamic between these characters, as sometimes people simply default to romance and then end up pushing for the same old tropes and ignore all the intricacies Horikoshi includes in his writing.
Again, I love Mido's friendship with Todo, and I love Baku's friendship with Kiri. I think these relationships are incredibly important, and friends are incredibly important. People who ship them are having fun, which is so lovely, and i hope they continue to have fun! I hope you personally find more fics about them that make you smile and brighten your day đđđ
Iz**ch*ka is a little difficult, because they certainly are cute, separately and together. I thought they were cutest before Ura was told about her potential crush on Mido, when she was simply a source of bubbly energy and positivity that helped Mido open up and feel comfortable around other people. I feel though that, romantically, it's extraordinarily one-sided, and at this point, i have to wonder if they really are "end goal." End goal for shounen, of course, is hardly ever explicit ahzovndlfjsoxo but i feel like a better storyline for Horikoshi to take would be for Ura to realize that she's been confused, and these feelings haven't really been a positive experience for her. I've definitely gone through things like that as a teenager. Now, the ship can be very cute! They're basically the same person, and they're cute and bubbly! But again, it simply isn't for me.
I think Momjirou is very cute!! Of course, as a lesbian, i sense strong lesbian vibes from Momo, and strong bi vibes from Jirou, and I also saw the ship potential ever since the USJ attack - which i think, so did everyone else ahaovndofjsojfsk they're best friends without a doubt, though i have to say, i really like Kamijirou. She just makes him so soft, and he's so in awe of her, and she thinks he's so funny, I love how supportive he is of her, especially since she can be really insecure đ„șđ„șđ„ș
I also think Ura and Tsu are very cute but another easy ship, and i kind of really like Ochamina đ„ș they're both pink and space themed, they're bubbly and energetic and kick ass, and i think they'd be super cute...
I saved todobaku for last, because, you know what they say, best for last! đđđ
I've said it before, but if there was no Mido (impossible obviously, and i would never want that) then todobaku is where my heart would lie. Baku has never really been shown chasing after anyone except for Mido...and Todo, which really gets at my heart. There's a grudging respect there - very, very grudging ahakckdkfjskdk which i find very appealing! Todo is very important to Baku and he has also been able to show Baku some things about himself that he needed to question and reevaluate. Meanwhile, Todo puts up with exactly 0% of Baku's shit, which i find absolutely hilarious. It's funny to me how Baku wishes to intimidate Todo as he does everyone else, and Todo simply does not care. And Baku wants to be mad, and ends up mad that he can't be mad since Todo is a strong and worthy opponent. They just have such an interesting chemistry, there's so much friction, so much tension, and I enjoy it, particularly since they clearly should be friends, would be great friends, want to be friends, but Baku simply won't get over it đđ I do prefer them as friends, but friends that are incredibly close, two people that understand each other on almost a telepathic level, two people that give each other shit while also refusing to take the other's shit.
I do agree that many people in this fandom seem to think their ship stands on some moral high ground? It could be a disconnect from the previous generations of fandom, or it could also be the growing mentality on this site that everything needs to be a battle of moral superiority, and also that what you like is part of your personality, and if someone doesn't like what you like, then they don't like you or that they think you're factually incorrect. I personally have stopped going into the bn/ha tag simply because I don't enjoy, well, many things i find there, and I'm happy with those that i follow. I've definitely seen hatred and invalidation for both LGBT ships and m|w ships, neither of which I'm comfortable with. I definitely don't go off tumblr for fandom stuff because there's practically no acceptance for any same gender ships, or any queer headcanoning, which, I'll be honest, makes me scared, as i am a very anxious person avdkvndkfje i do think it should be noted that we should be as accepting of cishet ships as we are of queer ships - no debate on this one - but again, you are right when you say that many cishet headcanons have been used to invalidate LGBT voices, and any and all allies must always be aware of this! It is much more often that queer voices are silenced, that queer ships are ridiculed, that queer shippers aren't allowed to enjoy or see themselves. And to anybody that doesn't want to be an ally... I haven't really read much of anything recently, let alone other ships, platonic or otherwise, because energy has been low for me for a long time. The laughter and the applause in the room are quickly replaced by whispers between each other. They are clearly baffled with the turn of the event, trying to solve the puzzle.
âWhat is the meaning of this?!â While he still talks in a somewhat calm manner, the way his eyes stutter tell Jaehyun that he is anything but calm.
The officers in uniform reached to where they are standing, each proceeds to hold the arms of Mr. Jeongâs and Kyungmiâs. As expected, at least one of them goes berserk.
âDonât touch me!â Kyungmi swatted the officerâs hand, refused to be taken away, âJaehyun, tell them who I am! They donât have the right to do this!â
âOh, but they do.â Jaehyun talks calmly. A side of him that you know âwhen he locked on his prey and he knows the percentage of his success is almost absolute.
âJeong Jaehyun, you donât want to do this.â His father warned him, and for the first time that night, he whispered instead of speaking proudly, possibly so that the mic wouldnât catch his words. âDonât mess around.â
He took a glance at his father and his so-called fiancée that he never acknowledges. He gave a nod to the officers, cueing them to proceed with the arrest.
Before any of them could make a scene, Jaehyun took the mic again, âLadies and gentlemen, Iâm terribly sorry for the commotion.â He didnât even bother about the ruckus behind him, âI understand that today was supposed to be a celebration of our new launch, but Iâd like to use this opportunity to address a few things, and why it is important to announce it right here, right now.â
His eyes are now directed to your table, where he mainly locks his gaze to yours, âAlso, Iâd like to apologize to the involved team, especially to Mr. Seo and also Ms. [Y/L/N] as the person in charge of this project. Really, I do regret that I need to steal the star of the show.â
The way he calls you flinches you. Not only does it causes the whole hall to look at your direction, but also it feels extremely strange for Jaehyun to address you that way. Itâs foreign, so foreign.
âObjections!â Frustrated that his own flesh and blood did not obey him, you can tell that he starts to lose his composure, âJaehyun, what are you doing?! Youâre clearly not thinking straight. You exposing me means you exposing yourself.â
Jaehyun just stands there, giving his father a disdainful look.
Obviously you can hear a bit of their words from the microphone, but not enough for you to grasp the full picture as the stage was quite far. Everyone seems perplexed and share the same sentiment with you, except for Johnny.
âJohnny,â Noticing that it is very strange for him to be this calm, you called him in hope you could get an answer, âWhat is going on? Do you know anything?â
Smirk appears at one corner of his lips, âJust wait and see.â
âMr. Jeong,â Jaehyun said, purposefully talking in front of the mic so that the whole hall could hear him loud and clear. Thereâs a hint of contempt in the way Jaehyun called his father.Â
He no longer addresses him as his own.
âBefore you could object to anything, Iâd think it would only be fair for our valuable guests to know where Iâm coming from.â
âDonât you dareâŠ!â He tried to threaten Jaehyun, but at the same time he was being careful not to taunt him too much. He didnât want to lose his pride, even so, there was a trail of fear in his tone.
âOh, I do, sir,â Jaehyun said, ice cold. âTaeil, would you please.â
âGuards!â His father tried to intercept, calling his own men.
However they never arrived. The imperious man finally lost his presence of mind, looking around, puzzled. On the other hand, the strikingly handsome person who is stationed at the FOH immediately granted Jaehyunâs command.
âSo, your father, how is he?â
The screen at the stage displayed an audio-only footage. And even without the picture, it is no brainer to figure out who is the owner of the voice.
âYou know, itâs the same old, Jaehyun.â The other counterpart owns a fairly high-pitched voice, and it was no other than Kyungmiâs. âThank God your dad is well connected to Chief Jang! If not it will be over for us.â
âChief Jang?âÂ
âYes, him! Daddy was telling me he was involved in poker scam when all he did was to invite that stupid rich guy from Sri Lanka!â
âMs. Hyun, if I were you I wouldnât say such information in a public place like this.â That is when you realized the audio was mixed with rustles, including a few sounds of peopleâs laughter in the background.
âOh, Jaehyun, youâre so square!â Kyungmi squealed, borderline annoying, âWeâre going to be husband and wife soon anyway. Also, I know your father would take care of it if things go bad, so itâs toots fine!â
âSo yeah, I was saying,â She totally dismissed Jaehyunâs warning, âDaddyâs worst habit is he never checks on his clientâs background. Who wouldâve thought he was a criminal, a mafia or some sort!â
âWell thatâs a surprise,â The clinking sound of cutleries being put down âpresumably fork and knifeâ leaks in the audio, âI mean, knowing our backgrounds, Ms. Hyun, I thought your father would take extra precautions.â
âI know right! But I think daddy felt safe because weâre about to get married. Nobody messes around with your father, Jaehyun, we all know that. In any case, the seven hundred million that daddy gets from him will also be split to your fatherâs bank account too.â
The whole audience gasps.
âNonsense!â His father tries to escape the officerâs grip. âJaehyun, I command you to stop! This is ridiculous!â
âJaehyun! You recorded our conversation?!â Kyungmi also protests.
âWhat are you doing, son?!â His father used all of his strength to move closer to where Jaehyun is, suit all wrinkled from trying to escape the officersâ grip. âDonât you realize the consequences weâll have to deal with once all of these leaks out?!â
âEveryone!â She pleaded, âThis is all fabricated! My father and I are people of honor! We, The Hyuns, would never do such things!â
âFabricated?â Jaehyun stared at the two people who looked awry in front of him.Â
That is when they know they just landed on the minefield.
Jaehyun scoffed, mockingly, âInitially donât want to show this because the footage is not very pleasing. Believe me, if only the two of them would admit the truth, I wouldnât.â He speaks to the audience, dismissing the protests behind.
âFor the record,â He continues, âI would like to warn everyone that what Iâm about to show you is containing graphic content and might be upsetting to watch. So if you are sensitive to the subject, I advise you to not look, but this is needed to unfold the truth.â
Jaehyun gives Taeil a nod, permitting him to play the infamous clip.
Suddenly the screen plays a motion image of a corridor. By the setup, youâre guessing the location was in the corridor of a luxury hotel. A penthouse, probably.
âReady, Chicago?â
âWhenever you are, Winnie.â
The unfamiliar voice called for the unfamiliar name, but after spending so much time meeting with him, you know that the voice belongs the man whoâs sitting next to you. You seem to be the only one who realized this, as you are the only one who shift your gaze to him who casually watching the footage while crossing his legs.
At the cue, they forcefully enter the room, at the sight of middle-aged men in the middle of intercourse, where a lone woman is unconscious. There are no subtitles available, but it is evidently clear that she was drugged. One of the men who was in the middle of recording the lovemaking panicked. He tried to escape but unfortunately for him the person who wore the camera got him. Johnny, on the other hand swiftly took care of the man who was raping the lady.
âDo we got them all?â Johnny checks.
âWe do,â Another man appears on the frame. He was wearing a uniform so you couldnât tell who it was.
âGood.â The cameraman applauds them for their swift and clean job. âTeddy, help Winnie tying them up. I got business to ask this guy.â
âRoger that, Casper,â The person with code name Teddy exclaims, before the camera pans to a disgusting figure of the rotten old man. Not only you were horrified with the fact that the footage wasnât censored, but you were also shocked by the fact that you know there could be only one who possessed the low velvety voice like the cameramanâs â no other than Jeong Jaehyun himself.
âChief Jang,â He approached the man in question, filming the manâs then-horny face. âLook what we got, a prestigious man gang-banged an immobilized woman. What would the society say?â
âDonât!â The man asked for mercy. âPlease, Iâll do anything! Donât let people know!â
He whimpers, but Jaehyun shows no sign of backing off, âAnything?â

Johnny clearly was not satisfied with his answer. He almost lost his temper at the way this man looked down on women, he reactively choked the man out of anger.
âEasy,â Jaehyun commands, âNow listen you piece of shit,â Jaehyun squatted so he can be on the same eye-level as the man. He pulls his hair so he could get a clearer shot of his face, which in return gains a shrieking yelp from the man.
âTell me, where did you get all of these accesses?â
The man writhed in pain but refused to speak a single word.
âChicago,â
Johnny slammed the manâs head to the end of the bed, causing him to scream in pain, and blood started to ooze from his head. The audience screamed at the sudden violence. Some even took a napkin and rushed to the nearby toilet, feeling nauseated.
âTalk,â He pulls the manâs head once more, revealing his ugly sobs that are mixed with blood. âYou donât want to mess around with our friend here,â He gestured to Johnny, âHeâs a man of brute strength.â
âIâll talk! Iâll talk!â Itâs almost disgusting how he easily gives in. âItâs Wonshik Hyun! He told me if I could let him out of his gambling cases, he would exchange it with these!â
âWonshik Hyun?â
âThe founder of Hyun Ventures!â He choked, almost out of breath due to the pain. However when he looked at Jaehyunâs glare, he was instantly intimidated, âHe is addicted to gambling, and it is thanks to his partner, the founder of NCT Corporation heâs able to walk away!â
âYouâre from fucking law enforcement, Chief Jang.â Jaehyun scowled, sickened by the way he acted, âAt the highest ranking for fuckâs sake, yet here you are.â
âIâm sorry!â He cries, âI was about to investigate it but I just canât stop.â
Jaehyun clicked his tongue in disbelief.
âPlease let me go! Donât tell anyone about this! I have a family back home.â He sobs, asking for their pity.
âMy son, yes, my son!â His pathetic face quickly turned bright, as if he just found a way out. âHeâs about to enter college! My child, he aims to enter law school this year, surely you donât want to ruin his future?!â
A fist landed on his cheek, snapping his nose into a grotesquerie. He didnât stop with just a punch, not until Johnny held him back.
âEnough, Casper. He wonât be able to speak.â
âFucking bastard.â Barely holding his anger, you never know Jaehyun is capable of releasing such wrath. âWe are the one whoâs gonna ruin his future? Look at yourself you filthy fuckââ
The video stops, and the crowd quickly starts to murmur. They closed their mouths at the sudden revelation, and itâs obvious that theyâre giving displeased looks to Jaehyunâs father.
âHowâŠâ
Cat got his tongue. He canât say anything when the evidence is crystal clear.
âSir,â Jaehyun answers confidently, âYou, introducing me to Ms. Hyun is exactly the key that I needed to unfold the truth. That part I have to thank you.â
âJaehyun, you used me?! How could you, Iâm your fiancĂ©e!â
The crowds let out a loud gasp before Jaehyun calmly handles the situation, âFiancĂ©e? Did I ever say yes to the engagement? Youâre the one whoâs acting on your own. Our meetings are always arranged by my father, telling me I should get close to you. But Iâm glad I can turn our dinners to gain the information I needed, Ms. Hyunâ
His statements made Kyungmi lost all the strength on his legs. She couldnât accept if this is her fate so she continues to freak out, âHow dare you, Jaehyun! I loved you, and I thought what we share was real!â
If a gaze could cut, Kyungmi would be in pieces right now. Jaehyunâs stare was sharp, and cold, causing her to flinch. âHow could I love you when I donât even have your number, Ms. Hyun? I know nothing of you, except the fact that you own a loose mouth.â
You can start to listen to the people behind you talking to each other.
âSheâs his fiancĂ©e?â
âWhat kind of fiancĂ©e that doesnât have each otherâs number? What a crazy woman!â
âSheâs just delusional, Jeong Jaehyun probably just talked to her once and she thinks heâs her!â
âMs. Hyun,â Jaehyun continues to speak, this time looking directly at her, still standing near the mic. âIâd like to thank you for giving me the most crucial information regardingâŠâ He hesitates but decides to proceed. âThis father of mine. But Iâd like to tell you and,â He looks forward to the guests. âTo everyone who attends.â
âThereâs only one woman in my life that was able to change my heartless soul. Sheâs the one that I will always treasure. I never know my heart is capable of beating the way it beats when sheâs around me. Her views, her visions. Sheâs different from any other woman I knew. Sheâs a fighter, a firecracker, in fact. And that is why I love her. Sheâs the one who introduces me that there is always hope.â
âBecause of this,â He looked back at the two people, scornfully, âI was unable to keep her. But like a ray of sunshine after rain, I hope tomorrow, or the day after, or even after it passes seventy years.â He took a quick glance at you, before directing it back upfront. âI hope it could bring her.â
You bring both of your hands in front of your hand, not expecting his sudden confession. You swore youâre not a crybaby, but the last few minutes are probably the most information you have to take in a short period of time and itâs understandable that youâre unable to keep your emotion in check.
Your heart is about to jump out of your chest, heart racing from his words. Tears welled up, but youâre not a fighter âlike what Jaehyun mentioned, if you didnât try to fight your own tears.
âFool!â Finally snaps, his father uses every bit of his strength to escape from the hands that are holding him. âYou just expose our family, Jaehyun! Do you think you can escape this?! Or your filthy ungrateful brother?!â He said, grabbing his sonâs suit. Jaehyun, whoâs clearly on the upper hand in term of strength, easily broke free from his grip.
âDonât act like weâre your own,â Jaehyun grunts, âIâve not used a single penny you gave to me. You can check my bank account where you always transfer my money. The amount is exactly whatever you gave to me in years.â
His face slowly lost its vibrance, âAnd donât act as you care about Mark,â Jaehyun looks at Markâs direction, nodding at him to make him feel secured. âI did this for our family, when you failed to do so. I bet all of my net worth that you donât even know that Mark has been working part-time for his own spendings. Also, from this day onwards all of his necessities will go through me as I will be his guardian.â
Markâs jaw drops, he could not believe the turn of the events âof his rotten father finally meeting his doom.
You thought by now his father would turn himself, but you were wrong. Instead, he started to laugh hysterically.
âHeh, do you think it will be easy, boy?â His father snickers, as if he lost his sanity. âWait until I talk to my lawyer. Do you think my men would stop? You just took one person, son. That is barely enough to take me down.â
âOh?â Jaehyun raised one brow upwards, âThree months ago when you first introduced Ms. Hyun at Seoâs office, weâre already more than halfway in on our operation.â
âNot only I was involved, but I am connected to your people too. I hope you havenât turned insane to not remember that you do planned on making me the next heir.â He said, unfazed.
âMost of your powerful men are now waiting for their trials. Youâll be the next in line. Youâll have the right to consult with a lawyer prior to any further questioning at your own expense. Though, your personal lawyer, Mr. Yang would not be able to attend due to the fact he receives money from illegal transactions.â
âYou son of a bitch!â Jaehyunâs father finally lost it, about to throw his fist to Jaehyun. Him, being well-trained in combat, is able to tackle it easily, twisting his fatherâs arm.
âBitch? Who are you referring to, my deceased mother?â He looked low at his father, whoâs writhing in pain. âLetâs finish this in the court. Though, Iâm positive youâll end behind the bars for the rest of your life. Then, go and think twice before you call my mother that way.â
He pushed his father away and the officers quickly grab him. With Jaehyunâs commands, they finally take both Mr. Jeong and Kyungmi away.
âSorry for the scene,â He runs his hand through his hair, fixing it before he greets the audience, âThere will be another separate session for the press release regarding this. So for tonight, do enjoy the food and the champagnes. I was told the canapĂ©s are marvelous.â
He then goes down the stage, to where Mark is. Mark practically runs to his older brother, asking for a further explanation about the whole situation. Same goes with the rest of the people. As expected, the crowds start to swarm around both of them.
âI guess nobody is interested in the canapĂ©s, huh?â Johnny said, finally turning his body to where the rest of you are.
âDuh. But before that,â You lean forward so youâre closer to Johnny, âYou are a fucking secret agent? What the heck is going on! How could I not know?!â
âLanguage, [Y/N]. And if you do know then Iâm doing a lame job as a secret agent, no?â He chuckles, rightfully earned your tiny punches.
âI thought you invited me for your project launching party, [Y/N].â Yuta finally spoke, after every single one of you on your table was silenced due to the drama that happened on the stage. âYou never told me that⊠weâre going to watch a soap opera.â
âBelieve me, Yuta,â You rolled your eyes, âHow could I know?â
You guys were busy discussing what just happened, and then suddenly you sensed that flocks of people were coming to your direction.
You turned your head to find the fine man in white suit was the one who brought the crowd to you.
â[Y/N],â He says softly.
âJaehyun,â You reactively rose from your seat, but quickly hesitated. Jaehyun did declare his love to you. Sure, he never mentioned your name but that doesnât change the fact that the first woman he approached was you âand you know how much people quickly jump into the conclusion. The last thing you want is to gain peopleâs attention by being together with him.
âJohnny,â As if he could read your mind, he quickly glanced at Johnnyâs direction, which Johnny replied with a single nod.
âAlright, everyone,â Johnny stands up, fixing his suit. âDonghyuck, letâs guide them to the VIP room.â
Without any further explanation, Donghyuck escorts both you and Yuta to the designated room. The journey there was tedious, you couldnât imagine how Jaehyun could even walk to you with the crowd constantly barging him with questions.Â
âMr. Jeong! What makes you do this?â
âIs it out of revenge, Jaehyun?â
âOur transaction with NCT Corporation is legal, right?â
The crowd was more persistent than what Jaehyun thought. They keep pushing, demanding for an answer while Jaehyun kept his mouth shut. As the result, they squeezed you. Of course, Jaehyun would stay by your side in a heartbeat if he could, but thereâs a line that he couldnât cross âYuta trying his best to protect you next by your side. But thereâs so much that Yuta can do, fighting the rest of the hall by himself.
âSicheng,â
Jaehyun uses his eyes to point in your direction, and a person named Sicheng who was stationed nearby quickly guards you. It becomes more bearable, since he granted you with enough space to walk, especially when youâre wearing an evening gown.
When they almost reach the end of the hall, more bodyguards are stationed, letting you and the rest of the group in while they hold the crowd who are still curious.
âAlright,â Johnny closes the door, now that everybody is inside the room. âSo, how should we start, Jae?â
Now all eyes are on Jaehyun, including yours. But Jaehyun only fixes his gaze to yours.
He was drained. He might win this, but that was after he pulls every of his ace cards. All he wanted was to hold you, and for you to pat him on his head and thank him for his effort.Â
But he canât, not when Yuta is crossing his arms in front of his chest, waiting for an explanation. Yuta might not be directly involved, but now that he knows, he wonât accept a cliffhanger.
âUhm, so where should I startâŠâ
In contrast to his excellent stage presence, he is now stuttering, clearly awkward after engaging in eye contact with you. You are equally as nervous, fidgeting on your own fingers.
Yuta seems to notice the tension, breaking the awkward atmosphere, âI think you guys should talk.â
Everyone is in shock with his statement. Clearly giving him a âyou just let your lover talk with her ex, though?â kind of look. Yuta, on the other hand, finds his action to be very logical.
âI think you owe [Y/N] plenty of explanation, man. Probably something thatâs only between you guys.â
You give him a look, asking him once more whether heâs sure with his decision. He gives you a gentle nod. âJust make sure youâre back for me.â
As much as Jaehyun is thankful to Yuta for giving his permission to talk to you, it doesnât change the fact that his last sentence stings. The fact that Jaehyun is no longer the owner of your heart makes his heart feels heavy.Â
Eventually you and Jaehyun agree to his suggestion, making your way to the room next door.
âI, uhm,â He scratched his head.
âSince when, Jae?â You asked first, giving him the hint where he should start.
âWell, letâs sit down first.â
He then proceeds by telling you that it started after he met Johnny again. They were teammates back in high school but turned out the friendship actually didnât start there. Johnny entered NCT Corp. due to the fact he was the agent that was stationed there, for a mission that was obvious; arresting the head of Jeong.
He approaches Jaehyun, but Jaehyun outsmarts him to figure out his identity. Johnny thought he failed his mission, with his targetâs son finding out who he was, but what a twist of an event it was for Jaehyun to actually offer his hand to help.
âSo you were living this life even when we were together?â
â[Y/N]...â He gently speaks, as if he was afraid to break a heart that is so dear to him, âIt was never my intention to put you in danger. It was a miscalculation on my side to fall for you that night.â
âMiscalculation?â You emphasized his choice of word, ready to snap at him.
âThe best mistake Iâve ever made.â
Your cheeks start to turn pink at his remark, makes you forcefully break the eye contact.
âUhm,â You awkwardly converse back to him, âNo wonder you always came home late. You were rarely at home before midnight.â
âArenât you pushing yourself?â
You were about to tug one of his wild strands of hair, before you back off and remembered that heâs no longer yours.
He lets out a disappointed smile.
âI met you and I was already in the middle of my mission.â
âYet youâre still asking me out?â
âI wish I could blame it on the alcohol that night, but I know they just unleashed my deepest desire. I couldnât forget you ever since that night where we met at the bar. Ever since we made the first eye contact.â
âBut youâre keeping secrets from me, Jaehyun. And not just any secret, you being a COO is already a big step that I have to take. Then suddenly you are the next heir of an underground business, and the next thing I know youâre also a secret agent! I was living a pretty normal life, Jaehyun, then you suddenly came into the picture. How do you expect a person like me, dating a powerful man like you?â
âItâs just the consequences that I have to take eventually.â
âYou couldâve just told me properly, you know, as a warning.â
His voice was saturated with regret, âI know itâs wrong, but I swear I would never purposely put you in danger. The reason why I didnât tell you all of these was because the egoistic part of me didnât want you to leave me out of fear. I was overly confident that I could overtake my father in no time. I thought I could keep it hidden and live my life peacefully with you, but I didnât expect him to... meet you.â
Part of you felt guilty at the way he mentioned how you would leave when you discover the truth. On how accurate his predictions were.
âItâs justâŠâ He sighs, âI was this close, [Y/N]. Of course, Hyun Kyungmi was an opening I never knew would come, but even so I was confident I could arrest him on my own. And I have to do this. For Mark, and for my future, our future.â
The sentence ended with a pregnant pause, both of you unsure how the conversation should continue.
Was it always this awkward with Jaehyun?
âSoâŠâ He finally breaks the silence, âYuta, I think heâs a great guy.â
Your eyes quiver at the way Jaehyun speaks Yutaâs name.Â
âHe is, Jaehyun.â You carefully replied, âThough his jokes are borderline rude, itâs just his way to show his affection.â
Jaehyun dryly laughs, âHeâs different from me, doesnât he?â
His words stop you from going, prolonging the pause.
âBut Iâm glad heâs able to make you laugh like that.â
You saw how his gaze turns soft. Itâs been forever since Jaehyun got a chance to look at you, and only you. Itâs been a while he could have all of you for himself, for you guys talk in private like this.
He was intoxicated, in you. And he let you slipped away. He finally reached his goal, but he didnât receive his prize.
âI miss you, [Y/N].â
You pressed your lips together. Air of melancholy filled the way you look at him.
âJaehyun, I-â
âI know, I know. Just⊠let me get this out of my chest.â
He took a deep breath in, âPlease let me this one go,â
He hugs you, and it feels like years since the last time youâve felt Jaehyunâs warmth.Â
There was a momentary pause before you could react.
Is this okay?
Is this fair, for you, Jaehyun, most importantly, for Yuta?
But how could something that feels so right be so wrong?
So you hug his broad shoulder back, pulling him closer to you. Indulging his embrace thatâs been missing from you.
âYou know, I always thought by hiding it from you means I can have my own haven. Living a triple life is can be quite chaotic.â
You laughed, âI could imagine.â
He scoffed warmly, âI have to wear three different masks in each settings, and there are times where I feel like I could break into pieces.â
âBut then I met you,â He carefully caressed your hair, making sure he didnât ruin your hairstyle for the night. âEvery time I woke up next to you, I just knew what Iâve been missing in my life. How our mind connected, the sound of your laughter, and the way you teach me how to love, and the way you loved me back.â
Jaehyun always feels perfect, but he is a human too. You can feel heâs trembling, fighting the waves of emotion, âFor once, I could be just myself when Iâm with you. Not COO Jaehyun, or the next heir for some underground business, nor a secret agent. I can just be just Jaehyun, and it was liberating.â
His words hit you hard. You never knew how much weight he has on his shoulder, and how he hold everything on his own. You never knew that Jaehyun leaned on you that much.
Itâs not fair for him to tell him all of this now. Not when you thought you can live your life without him.
âThe next morning after you left, I thought I just had a nightmare.â He continues, âThat night was probably the longest night I ever experienced. I fell asleep, drunk. When I woke up and I couldnât find you next to me, I thought you were in the kitchen. You always said you wanted to make me breakfast.
Jaehyun took another breath in, âYet the only sight I saw was the mess from the night before and everything finally became a reality for me.â
He lets you go, to see that youâre about to cry. He forcefully smiles, trying his best not to show the already apparent sadness.
âDonât cry. Youâre kind, thatâs why you pitied me.â
No, thatâs not it, Jaehyun.
You wonder why it is so hard for you to tell him so, but words just wonât come out.
âI realized that I meet someone and we sometimes drift apart. Sometimes it seems to be too much and too vague, so I get anxious over it. Even so, the world moves on, and so are you.â
Are you?
âIâm happy that Yutaâs able to make you smile. Something that I took away from you that night. Iâm sorry for hiding things from you, but please know everything that we shared, our relationship, is real. Probably the most genuine feelings that I ever felt.â
You took one of your fingers to wipe the corners of your eyes, preventing the tears to ruin your makeup.
âJaehyun, please donât be so hard on yourself. Now that I know every reason behind it, it would be stupid of me not to forgive you.â
He nods, and there goes another silence.
Are you OK leaving things this way? How could you figure out your heart when your mind is filled with numerous tangled threads?
Suddenly the room next to you became so loud, surprising both you and Jaehyun.Â
âLooks like heâs here,â Jaehyun stares at the wall, seeming to know the reason behind the fuss.
âLetâs go?â He offers his hand, shocked with his own action.
âSorry,â He quickly shoved his hand to his pants pocket. âOld habits die hard.â
Oh, Jaehyun.
That, you too know very well.
Both of you walked to the first room to see Taeyong whoâs busy crying while Mark continuously patted him, telling him to stop.
âThereâs no way I could not cry, dumbass!â Taeyong pouts, receiving tissue from Johnny, âYouâre finally free, Mark.â

iâm not sure i will ever get over pegoryu. like, to me at least, itâs kind of obvious ryuji was meant to have a romance route, at least in the early stages of writing. like yosuke, the way his relationship builds with the main character is heavily implied to have something else to it. the only difference is that with ryuji, we have nothing. no scrapped confession lines, no solid proof that he was meant to be a dateable character in the game. but even just in tropes, they fit under a ton of japanese romance stereotypes. thereâs a point in the anime where ryuji is handing saeâs treasure to akira, but for just a few moments, their hands linger on each otherâs. ryuji knows the plan is to get arrested and have akiren fake his death, but heâs stated in the game that he was worried akira wouldnât make it. i think the scene was meant to demonstrate that ryuji believed in akiren despite his rational fears, but they already did that with his mannerisms. he said he knew their leader would make it, but sounded unsure. he wasnât ready to say goodbye in any way but he pretended to have confidence so their plan would work, but even so, the animation adds this detail without prompting. i understand that this is a strange detail to linger on for this long, but iâve always thought of this scene when i think of pegoryu. if you ask me, this probably isnt the best point to say âryuji would confess here!â because he absolutely wouldnt. he wants their leader to be able to focus, he wants him to be safe more than anything. what i do think, though, is that this is a huge turning point for ryujiâs thoughts. everything leading up to that hand hold was more likely a buildup towards ryuji accepting his feelings himself. again, like yosuke, ryuji delivers a few lines implying that heâs weirded out by gay men, or that he wouldnât really even consider a relationship with a guy, so it would obviously be a while before this himbo of a man accepts his own feelings. but upon understanding what he felt, i donât think he felt trapped or upset. i think he would promise himself that as soon as akiren got out alive, he would confess to him.
now, the moment akira comes back to leblanc, youâll notice that everyone is waiting for him. however, the first person to run up to their leader is ryuji. not only does he become the first person to approach akira, he gives him a big ol hug while heâs there. he says that he missed him, and he seems extremely relieved/ happy to see akira again altogether. this can easily be read as platonic, although itâs extremely doubtful ryuji would walk up to just whoever and give them a hug in the same manner he did akira. you never see him do this with anyone else in the game, he is ONLY this touchy with akira, and thatâs highlited a few times. the game makes it very clear that only one person gets this treatment. this touchiness isnt just for one scene though, there are clear times where ryuji approaches akira unprompted, as if he just wants to be with him. the infamous bath house scene where ryuji leans on akira, to which akira says âdonât touch me,â (very flustered, might i add) and the treasure chest opening animation, where he keeps his hand on akitaâs shoulder supportively the whole time, even giving him a little pat on the back.
speaking of being extremely touchy,, the valentineâs day short that nobody talks about. i know i just wrote a novel on how touchy ryuji is in the game, but this is a whole different BREED of touchy. there are points in this animation where ryuji smiles and holds akiraâs hand, refers to akiren as âmy renren!â and most importantly kisses akira. now, in all fairness? this short was really vague with what exactly happened. you ask ryuji if youâre his valentine, to which he provides an extremely clear âyes, yes of course,â before pausing and providing a much less confident âNOT!â you converse wirh ryuji for a while, and then it cuts to the attic. you can only see silhouettes of ryuji and akira through the window at this point, but theyâre very clearly holding onto each other. their faces both lean towards each other, then the short is over. thatâs it, thatâs all the clarification we get. iâve seen a lot of people argue that this was a hug, and usually i could agree. with a company like atlus, itâs a lot more likely thatâs all it was. the one thing that leads me to believe otherwise is the fact that they didnât let us see. if it was a hug, thereâs nothing to censor, right? if they keep a kiss subtle, or if theyâre able to make it subliminal, less people get pissed, everyoneâs happy. EVERYONE EXCEPT ME BECAUSE THIS WAS BULLSHIT LET THEM KISS!!!!
regardless, touching back on the point where ryuji realizes his own feelings, thereâs a scene during shidoâs palace arc where ryuji calls the mc after everyone leaves his place. this is another scene everyone and their grandma has talked about, but i feel like i cannot drive this point home enough: this is the point where ryuji would have confessed if he hadnât gotten too scared. he starts to say something, but he brushes it off with a âforget it,â and itâs never touched on again. am i going to say ryuji knew he would sacrifice himself if it came down to it and he wanted akiren to know in case that had to happen? yeah thatâs. exactly what iâm going to say. in the end, i think his fear of ruining things outweighed his bravery, and so he hung up.
one of the BIGGEST points in the game that just drives home the idea that theyâre romantically involved is at the very beginning. during the first palace ever, when akiren awakens to his persona, he does it to save ryuji. this might not seem like much, but considering the fact that most everyone else has an extreme driving reason to awaken to their persona, and akiraâs is this kid he just met, i think that says a lot. DARE I SAY, they are literally soulmates. not only that, though, because akira is also partially responsible for ryujiâs awakening. i would argue it was ryujiâs anger at kamoshida for taking away the track team, or the fact that ryuji himself was about to be killed, but i believe that if that were the case, ryuji would have awoken to his persona at the same time akira did. there were extremely similar circumstances, and the opportunity was definitely there. but instead, itâs only when akira is on the ground and encourages him not to lose hope that he gets pissed enough to get his persona. they are each otherâs reason to not let hope die. thatâs it thatâs the post
