The Five Nights at Freddy's movie has several flaws, this I can't deny.
But you know what isn't one of them?
"We didn't get enough of the animatronics killing people! That's what we came to see!"
So, in other words, you wanted a movie less faithful to the games?
Because that's the thing: in the original that this movie is largely adapting, the animatronics only ever kill one person: you, the player character, if you fail to keep them out of your office, which results in a Game Over. Completing the game hinges on you making sure that the animatronics never kill you. The only casualty in the story is the Phone Guy, who gets killed off-screen by Golden Freddy, who in the game is not an animatronic but a mascot costume.
The movie already gave us more than what the games allowed in terms of animatronics killing people; not only opening with a different security guard meeting his "Game Over" but having a whole sequence of vandals breaking into the place and getting picked off one by one, with each animatronic getting in a kill and each kill being brutal for a PG-13 film.
Now, I suppose you could complain that the main character, Mike, is never in any danger from the animatronics until the final night due to Afton's evil plan that they're following, which isn't true to the game at all. To that I would argue that what works for a game doesn't work for a movie. In the game, your main character is working security for an active facility and just keeps coming back to work each night despite the killer robots. This ludicrous premise works fine for a game since it's just an excuse to keep the gameplay going, but in a movie someone almost getting killed by animatronics yet then coming back to risk it again once would be breaking any suspension of disbelief, let alone doing it four times. Hence the change where the facility isn't active, Mike never learns of the danger he's risking on his first two nights, and is fooled into thinking that the living animatronics are friendly on the following two nights.
More animatronic carnage would've been fun. But absolutely not necessary.

Another Doug Walker fail: not getting what the show was going for with Two-Face. It's flipping the script, where instead of a good guy who has a bad thing happen to him and becomes split between good and evil with the scarred side symbolizing the evil, it's a bad guy who has a bad thing happen to him as a result of finally doing good and becomes split between good and evil with the scarred side symbolizing the good. I like it; it's an interesting new take.

I always have thought she is like Nostalgia Critic with incest fetish.
Eh, personally, I don't see that as exactly fair. Like, I get what you mean, and maybe I just have a bit of a soft spot for Doug, but.
I see Doug's failings as more a matter of incompetence than active malice personally. Unfortunately, I am nostalgic for the Nostagia Critic, having grown up watching him.
Yes his media hottakes are not good. Yes, the people who take issue with the unfortunate business decisions he made have the people involved every right to be angry with him. But I personally adore and embrace Doug cringe and all. I make fun of him out of love, where I make fun of Lily out of disdain. I respect and understand everyone who feels differently, but that's where I am at emotionally with it. I don't think Doug meant any harm, even if some of his actions did result in very real harm to some.
If I saw him at a con I'd tell him how much I still kinda love him. Respect what he's done even though it's . . . You know. Very Doug Walker.
He's still that tiny bit, you know, my babby grill. You feel me? Maybe not. I know the whole Channel Awesome thing is very dependent on the age bracket you're in.
If I wanted not for money I'd totally use those funds to buy Channel Awesome from Mike Michaud the fucking fuckface himself so Doug could continue being the cringelord he is without all that fucking toxic baggage. Provided he uphold less toxic business practices.
I'm with Lady Emily in that he shows . . . A degree of some kind of Tommy Wiseau kind of artistic integrity I think is a bit sister slay if you know what I mean.
I cringe, but in a "my dearest beloved" kind of way. I hope that makes sense. I love my camp queen Doug Walker.

I’m sure Doug Walker thinks he’s a funny writer or whatever but in reality he just makes one gigantic Family Guy cutaway gag that goes on for half an hour and makes everyone groan as it goes on. And he’s not even classic Family Guy cutaway gags, he’s modern Family Guy cutaway gags.

It’s official. I would rather this movie be about any of these kids except the one it’s about!
- Doug Walker
Me: This is exactly what I thought of the two main characters in The Untamed.

Doug is still pretty reasonable on Star Wars, but still makes fumbles all the same.
1. Certain points he made elsewhere are absent here when they really needed to be brought up again. For instance, the fact that The Empire Strikes Back and especially Return of the Jedi were NOT near-universally beloved in their day, that general audiences enjoyed The Rise of Skywalker regardless of what Star Wars "fans" think of it, and that the final season of The Clone Wars ran into issues due to both Rebels before it and The Bad Batch after it.
2. He still takes the same bad-faith critic view on The Rise of Skywalker, namely that it's a "retcon of The Last Jedi made in a panic by Disney / Lucasfilm after the backlash", pandering to toxic fans and backfiring since they hated it. All facts on record disprove this, as the bulk of the film's story including Palpatine's return and Rey not being just a "nobody" after all was locked in before The Last Jedi came out and any backlash was known. Doug even says "it would have been good if these ideas were there at the start of the trilogy"...news flash, Doug: they were. Seeds in The Force Awakens were always envisioned by J.J Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan into blooming this way (ex: music from Revenge of the Sith's opera scene playing when Snoke appears, Palaptine being heard in Rey's vision twice). The dissonance felt with The Rise of Skywalker was not a deliberate move due to any backlash; it was the natural and obvious conclusion to having one creator start a trilogy with his own ideas on how it could go, then have a totally different creator with totally different ideas continue it, only to have that first creator who still has those ideas of his return to end it. Hell, CinemaSins gets it!
3. Yeeeah, he's really underselling the backlash to The Mandalorian's third season. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are the new Star Wars content creators that the "fans" have rabidly turned on due to the third season focusing on Bo Katan and the Mandalorian civilization's story rather than Din's. And I agree with this base criticism, just not with the fervor it's given.
4. I love Andor too, but because it shows new, previously underexplored areas of the Star Wars universe and fleshing out characters and storylines leading into Rogue One (plus it's just well made cinematography-wise). Doug just can't leave it at that, though, and has to gush about how "adult" it is (is it a Freudian thing that he's so obsessed with that concept, given what a man-child he is?), intentionally or not giving the impression that he thinks Star Wars should normally be dark and edgy, and fuck that noise and anyone who spreads it around.
5. No mention of the video games and theme park additions that have only come along due to Disney purchasing Star Wars? Y'know, like the Battlefront series or Jedi: Fallen Order? Galaxy's Edge and Rise of the Resistance? Those are further points in "Disney Star Wars" favor that shouldn't be discounted, just like the overall positive financial earnings made.
Finally, in regards to the question posed: Yes. Absolutely.

favourite twdg villain?
I'm a fond enjoyer of the St. John's as villains. I don't know if they're my favorite just because they're only in one episode, but I love the concept of this family almost immediately jumping into cannibalism toward the start of the outbreak, dealing in human flesh to bandits, and casually feeding this group their friend's legs.
Like... what the hell was this family like before the outbreak that all three of them were like, "Hey now listen... nothing should go to waste, the dead are eating people so why shouldn't we? We gotta survive and in our defense, we only target those who were gonna die anyway... like y'all."
Dude, Mark was shot in this shoulder with an arrow. He wasn't going to die from that injury. It's so fucked that these seemingly friendly people took the group into their home and then fed them Mark's legs.
If we take the idea that everyone is infected and have the capacity within themselves to become walkers, to become monsters, then the St. John's were infected long before the outbreak, y'know? Not literally, but something was wrong with them and the outbreak just further spread that infection and changed them.
But again, are they my favorite? I dunno if I can say that since I have a lot more appreciation for Lily now. Yeah, some of her writing gets a little wonky in ep3 of TFS when she goes on her monologues and shit, but y'know what? I'm into it.
You have to remember who we're talking about and the fact that she's the antagonist; Lily isn't some anti-hero in TFS who secretly has a heart of gold that's brought to light because she reunited with Clementine... she's a fucked up woman who did fucked up things in the name of survival. She's full of rot now. She sees kidnapping children and turning them into soldiers to protect her home as a means to an end, but she doesn't actually give a shit about the people she's taking. They aren't people to her, they're as the episode title suggests, toys in her game. The only one she sees as a person is Clementine, and while that makes her hesitate at first, she sees Clementine's a prize to bring back.
She remembers what happened in S1; her father had a heart attack and as she tried to save him, Kenny smashed his face in with a saltlick and then expected Lily to just stand up and help him get back to his family because "he did what he had to, he made the hard choice." Yes, Larry was a piece of shit. No one liked him, and you can even question Lily on him and she'll tell you that he has a lot of pain. Yes, it makes him an asshole, but he's still her dad and he's all she has. I mean... the simplification is daddy issues, but in all seriousness, I don't doubt for a second that many of Lily's issues stem from Larry being a shitty father to her.
Then everyone thought she was losing it when she insisted there was a traitor in the group, which she was right about, but she was unstable. She was unwell, but how do you help someone like that when you don't have training to go about it? Then Lily ends up killing either Carley or Doug and the group turns on her, and either she's left behind or she steals the van and runs away.
Then we don't know what the hell happened to her until we see her again in TFS, but like... a lone woman with decay festering inside of her joining the delta? Exposing her to their methods? I mean, what else did she have to lose? She had nothing, she lost everything, and she has a lot of issues. Survival is easy when you're numb, when you don't care about the individual; they're all just cogs churning to make the system run, and if a piece doesn't cooperate, you get rid of it and find a new one.
Plus I think there's something to say about Lily not wanting to be perceived as weak again. That whole display she put on in the cells? Telling the story of what happened to Minerva and Sophie? I get the criticism that it feels like Lily did a 180 between episodes but like... yeah dude, because it's a performance. It's not just her and Clementine anymore. It's a display of power and authority. She's playing the part and thriving in it as she ensures everyone else is terrified of her.
But then when Clementine and AJ get the upper hand? Again, she's not afraid to play up the pleading to earn enough sympathy to spare her- hell, just to let their guard down enough to strike and get the upper hand again. I mean, she's got nothing else to lose, right? If she doesn't go for it, she'll be killed and sure, you can kill her anyway but at least she tried.
Honestly, I look at Lily in TFS and still see that scared little girl playing the tough bitch, just like Carley said in S1. It's just now escalated from "tough bitch" to a downright vile person. She's so... lost? I suppose? Lost within herself and the monstrous means she's taken to survive.
I get the criticisms of how she was used in TFS, but for me, it's like when people complain about Minerva not getting the redemption arc she supposedly should've gotten, y'know? There's no saving her. Lily was never on our side, and there was no getting her on our side. She wasn't ever going to redeem herself. Even if you spare her and she drifts away on her raft, can someone like her actually find redemption? Or will she just find another group that'll feed into her rot?
Truly, I say let her be horrid. Let her be the piece of shit villain with a few fleeting moments of humanity. Let her drown in the blood she's spilled.
#asks#twdg lily#twdg andy st john#twdg danny st john#twdg brenda st john#twdg clementine#twdg minerva#twdg mark#twdg larry#twdg kenny#i know i used to complain about lily in tfs a lot years ago but past cj complained about everything tbh sksksks#now i'm just like babe lily's interesting as shit like not every villain needs a redemption arc just because you think they're hot#and don't wanna feel bad or because you want her to be like she was in s1 when she was sympathetic like... it's been years#that's like being mad that clementine isn't the same person as she was in s1... the difference is we got to see clementine grow#but what happened to lily is a mystery... but that doesn't mean she didn't change especially for the worst#i dunno sometimes i look at lady antagonists in media and then look at people's reactions and i'm like.......... hmmmm#c'mon now- if kenny came back in tfs the same exact way then y'all would be foaming at the mouth insisting he's complex#and morally grey and he's just really sad about his family dying and really he's a sad widdle meow meow but also the best villain#who should be spared because he always cared about clementine and aj and he's just traumatized and sad and amazing unlike OTHERS#like.................... okay sure mmhmmmm#side note but the worst thing about kenny is the fact that he IS a brilliantly written character but his stans tend to just be the worst#anyway i like lily she's a great tfs antagonist like i recognize there are some weak spots and i wish she has more of a presence in ep4#if she lived but y'know... gotta make room for minerva being the final bridge boss so... yeah

I do kind of feel a tiny bit of sympathy for Doug Walker / the Nostalgia Critic just because the market for generically angry nerd reviews really dried up years ago and he seems to be (to his credit) thus far unwilling to move on to the much more lucrative "angry anti-woke nerd review" market; but there is something kind of sad about a man in his 40s still playing a character that he himself thought had run its course more than decade ago because he hasn't been successful at doing anything else.

BreadtubedebacledebatebothersomBS
I followed a few 'breadtube' (media analysists with a leftist liberal-leaning political view) people before they even got associated with the term 'Breadtube' and had being left-leaning as their 'brand', so I'm just really hyper aware of their 'eras', what they were talking about at what time, and of their shifting worldviews because I'm familiar.
As @padawan-historian said, I think it's irresponsible and presuming bad faith to assume lefttube essayists are the b-all-end-all of the discussion and that their audience always sees them as that. Yeah, maybe I and other -white ppl- viewers didn't hark about it as much as we should have, but the fact that we noticed then and now that Lindsay left out the anti-indigenous stuff in Myer's work is proof enough that no, we don't follow her blindly or think she covers everything perfectly. We like her because when she does cover everything she has to say, we think she's really good at doing it and that's what we admire about her and other essayists. It's not that we can't be our own well-spoken people, it's that we like her perspective.
As far as any breadtuber being dismissive and/or not addressing the fights they've gotten into online for the sake of their critics and concerns about their attitude- I GET why they are so pissy about people telling them what to do...but that does not make it okay.
Lindsay's first big internet gig was taking the 'girl equivalent' to a centrist movie reviewer(Nostalgia Critic) only to break from that mold quickly and try to be her own person. She faced a lot of discrimination directly from her bosses and from 'fans' (sexist assholes), was told to film and be okay with SA jokes despite being a survivor, has been targeted by GamerGaters ect. I've been here since before GamerGate happened and it was BAD. I get why she's done with people chiding her to do a thing like they're her personal PR manager is annoying and even destructive -but I don't think that make's it okay for her to group all her critics together like that when she did her 'mask off' addressing.
Jenny Nicholson was in the Brony fandom (could probably end it right there but let's keep going), she's faced a lot of weird AT BEST behavior and parasocial fans for a long time. She really has had -multiple- impersonators and a LOT of people presuming she said a thing when it was really one of those impersonators....and I also think her lashing out at John Boyega and his fans then blocking people who were @ing her for a response was a really bad move.
You absolutely don't have to stan or even like a white/cis/straight/abled creator who you think is talking down to you, and whom their audience (me) you think is racist for dismissing your dislike of them. I will say, however, you absolutely need to pay attention where you're getting some of info from- with Contra, with Lindsay, Sarah Z, Jenny there are legit creeeeeeepy assholes and parasocial stans who want to use legitimate criticisms to better their vendettas. PLEASE for the love of god don't listen to anything Doug Walker or Mike Michaud tell you about Lindsay -those men really don't care about anything but their own brands.

Sponsorships throughout youtube
Ah, sponsorships. Just talking about them is a minefield. Thankfully, nobody reads anything I say, so I don't need to worry.
The problem with sponsorships becomes apparent with the one question you never ask a YouTuber: "Do you actually use this product in your daily life?"
Its not really a fair question, because they can't answer it safely. If they say no, they risk losing that sponsorship, and some of their income. If they don't use it, you're forcing them to lie. You could argue they shouldn't be shilling it if they don't use it, but YouTubers don't have that many other ways to make money, so it's more complicated than that. As long as they don't lie about the product, and think it's okay, even if they personally don't have a use for it, I think it's fine.
However, it also a bit deceptive. people come to watch your content, and you're using that to make sure they watch an ad too. Of course, people can just skip it. Whats the solution to this? I'm not sure, but the solution I like best is when they turn the Sponsorships INTO something you want to watch.
Heres some examples:
================================================
Nostalgia Critic: the Ad segments
Tumblr media
Channel Awesome is a very controversial topic, and its not hard to see why. Beyond the drama and scandals, Doug Walker, while generally considered a nice, well-meaning guy, just isn't that funny a lot of the time. However, I personally quite like his ad segments.
They aren't connected, and are all completely random, with everything Dr. Frankenstein pitching you Stamps.Com to a door dashing through the street pitching you DoorDash. They don't always work, but they do always try to make a new one each time, and through a combination of just enough self-deprecation and lots of surrealism, its still pretty entertaining. Theres an ad for Chime, a money-saving app, where the skit is someone talking to a dollar bill like they would a bratty teenager, and the joke being that you shouldn't always have to worry about money. If that sounds funny, thats pretty much the level of humor of most of them.

RYAN GEORGE: THE ADSTRONAUT
Tumblr media
Ryan George writes comedy sketches loosely taking place in the same universe where he plays everyone, certain animals can talk, and Jurassic Park was released before the first time someone ever shoplifted.
I'm a fan, if you couldn't tell.
Above is the Adstronaut, an astronaut with a best(and only) friend is a green alien named Florp-Flap, who has a strained relationship with him. Ryan puts effort into making the sponsorship sections as funny as the sketch itself, with ongoing gags and ridiculous reactions. However, it's still separate from the sketch itself.

TWA: The TWA expanded universe.
Tumblr media
Terrible Writing advice is a channel dedicated to telling you what NOT to do in writing via sarcasm, and it's glorious. The Sponsorship Wars are after-video skits in which the various archetypes he's established interact off of each other, becoming something of actual characters in the process, and try to steal the sponsorships from each other. They go one after another, and all tie in, starting off slowly but quickly escalating into a massive plot thats actually pretty entertaining.
There are two sides here: the Knights of Artistic Integrity, well-meaning but not extremely competent warriors who believe Ads will doom the universe, try to convince everyone to relinquish their ads. Their opponent is Inner Greed, the embodiment of Greed itself who wants to take over the entire universe, and then beyond, through the power of-well-money. Greed is the one pitching the products in the latest sketches, despite being framed as the villain, and theres actually an undertone of anti-ad commentary throughout most of it, with the knights of artistic integrity fighting for a world where content creators don't need to sell themselves out and fill everything with ads, and are paid and valued for what they do.
He's still selling stuff, so its mostly seen as an unfortunate necessity, but its actually fairly engaging and funny. Theres a bit where the Dark Lord keeps finding himself accidentally using stock Hero lines and almost vomiting. It's weirdly adorable, and an excellent way to make someone actually want to get through ads. ================================================
Neytirix: The sponsor segments
Tumblr media
Neytirix is a criminally underrated art, animation(And sometimes music) channel, specializing in cute, cool, and creepy. They often redraw things to their own views of them, usually either making it adorable, awesome as heck, or incredibly terrifying. The spectrum is generally that cute things become creepy, creepy things become cute, and cool things can become either, or just more cool. Onto the main topic. While it started as an off-hand joke, the ad sections are now a full-blown story and sometimes just the entire video. Above is Sponsor Pufferbunny, the spokesman of SkillShare. He appears any time anyone says 'skills', has a disdain for everything and everyone except SkillShare, and a taste for blood. However, he can't survive in our world for long. Once he's delivered the sponsor, he explodes into a puddle of gore-if your lucky. If you're the one who summoned him, either you explode when he appears, or once you've gotten through the entire segment, you die. Its highly implied to be some form of mind-control, with the people involved not fully knowing what their saying, and not being able to stop once they do.
Whenever the ad isn't for SkillShare, there tends to be a different horrific monster, but Pufferbunny still keeps showing up. Its end goal is unclear, and its methods are unknown, but if you see it, your only real chance of survival is to finish the ad. If you're the one who summoned him, its a coin flip at best as to whether its you or someone else who explodes. If not, your best chance is to just keep completely quiet, not giving a single prompt to segment to advertising. Never, under ANY circumstance, say the word 'skills'. That, or already start using SkillShare, and it'll leave you alone.
Theres alot of body horror, and the series starts in the end of random other videos(Redrawing peoples submitted characters, redrawing minecraft, model-buidling, random content about her pets) But recently the story has become alot more connected with the redesign series.
I could go on and on about this channel: how the main author avatar has an entire factory for redesigning original characters, how its horrifically painful for them and they come out mutated and monstrous, how she barely seems aware of it and actually seems to think they like it to some extent, How the main characters are basically MLP oc's that are subjected to incredible horrors, and more. But this is personally my favorite way sponsorships have ever been handled: Litterally making an entire story about them.

He sure can pick 'em.
Tumblr media
October 3, 2024
During his term as fake president, there was a 92% turnover rate in Donald Trump's team of senior advisors. And that doesn't include his confirmed Cabinet secretaries, of which a full 14 resigned or were dismissed (many others who went through the administration's revolving door were mere acting secretaries). Trump also had four different chiefs of staff, press secretaries and national security advisors in as many years. As well as six or seven different communications directors.
Trump, it seems, is a terrible judge of people. Which amply explains his endorsements of politically inept, ideologically extreme and, ultimately, unelectable Republican candidates. His most recent bad choice was the clown who's currently running for North Carolina governor, Mark Robinson (pictured above with the other clown who recruited him). Trump has a long history of praising Robinson. He once pronounced Robinson to be “better than Martin Luther King” and has called him "an outstanding person" and “one of the great leaders in our country.”
But when reports surfaced of Robinson's horrifying record of deeply racist and misogynistic statements, Trump waffled on retracting his endorsement and pretended not to know what all the fuss was about. Said the guy who wants to be leader of the free world, “I don’t know the situation.”
In the 2022 midterms, Trump endorsed a whole platoon of far-right duds. In Pennsylvania, it was the election-denying fanatic Doug Mastriano for governor and the bumbling New Jersey resident Mehmet Oz for senator. Also, the incomparably incompetent Herschel Walker for Georgia senator. As well as Arizona's gubernatorial hopeful and sorest of losers, Kari Lake. All were defeated bigly, of course. ABC News at the time observed:
Gone are the days of GOP committees in Washington, D.C. carefully rolling out endorsements regardless of ideological purity. This year, more than ever before, traditional arms of the Republican Party have practically ceded control of candidate promotion to Trump.
Now rumor has it he is encouraging Marjorie Taylor Greene to run for US Senator from Georgia against Jon Ossoff in 2026. Or possibly for governor, given Trump's well known animosity towards the current incumbent. But Greene's playing it coy for now. Asked if she is considering a 2026 Senate bid, she burbled, “Oh my goodness, what is today? Wednesday? We’re on Wednesday in May of 2024, let’s do Wednesday.”
Still, even with Trump's hackneyed "complete and total endorsement," Greene's reputation for divisiveness —especially her repulsive anti-Semitism — would likely turn any Senate race into a Robinson-type disaster for Georgia Republicans. Further proof of Trump's poor ability to discern other people's ability.

I’m force-feeding myself theory. Music theory, that is. Circle of fifths, not theory of scarcity or whatevs. No, that would be productive. This is trying to teach myself to ride a bike from a manual about motorboats written in Cantonese and I’m a wormbaby and we’re on the moon. To be both rockist and racist, Jimi didn’t need this shit. So the legends go. Jad Fair doesn’t know that F# major is the relative major D# minor. If Calvin Johnson knows, he learned it from Doug Martsch during a Halo Benders session and it is of no relevance to Beat Happening. Now obviously Sun Ra and Cecil Taylor knew this stuff from infancy, contrary to what most people I play their work to suggest, vociferously, but that’s jazz. I know very well that I’m not or will ever be dedicated enough to the craft to be an actual jazz musician. If Grimes knows about the circle of fifths, she learned it from Elon Musk. [Ed: THIS LINE DID NOT AGE WELL] Bo Diddley and Little Richard, despite decades of character assassination by white rock critics in the name of authenticity, probably were pretty handy with the circle of fifths, but I’ve yet to see any indication that Chuck Berry didn’t suck. The real big secret on this front is that Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson actually had the musical sensibilities of a hollowed-out turnip filled with cheese whiz and pencil shavings being used as a kind of anti-pinata at a naked mole rat birthday party, which the little ugly sightless dears taking a gulp of schnapps and then wacking at the the thing with stale baguettes. Which, incidentally, that sound is going to be sampled on the new Scott Walker album.
