Another question: what's the whole point of VK Day and why is Mal and co deciding who should be coming to Auradon or not instead of Ben, the 'king' himself? It's like giving applications to SA victims to seek refuge.
Also, I see where you're coming from with Lonnie. The poor girl was written so poorly that they, the writers don't even bother to include her in the disastrous 'wedding'. I think she and Audrey were never close, so maybe she wasn't so quick to defend Audrey, but still she could have done something. In addition, I was reading a response to a ask I sent in terms how the writers treated Lonnie and this person says Lonnie was this 'token Asian' that was forced in descendants.
As for Audrey, I believe she was suffering from a lot of trauma and genuinely needed help. She was neglected by her parents, her grandmother emotional manipulate and abuse her, Ben openly cheats on her with Mal...it's too much for her to bear. Agree?
I'm pretty sure the point of VK Day was because nobody wanted to go, the movie contrasted from the books in this regard. In the books they make a dumb system 'to be fair' to the kids who wanted to come to Auradon that they have to apply. (This is dumb because the C4 who were the worst ones on the Isle got hand picked and ended up living the best lives in Auradon while the kids they terrorized watched.) They didn't want special treatment given to particular kids (Which happened anyway because Dizzy, the one Evie wanted off got picked ) but when they realized nobody was really applying VK day was created to like hype up the kids to apply. But there's other dumb things involved like, they had to say something about their favorite C4 member....You mean the Isle bullies(Mal really but you know the C4 was a gang altogether) , you're asking kids applying for freedom which of their former tormenters were their favorite? Then I believe there was something about parent's permission which in a normal situation that's like duh of course but it was canon that most villain parents were abusive until D3. So why would actively abusive parents let them get away from them?? Whole thing was stupid and they should've just left Ben in charge because at least when he was the only one running it was no apply for freedom bs.
As for why the C4 were even in charge that my friend I have no idea why because there's literally no reason to. It would make sense for Evie out of the four to be involved because she wanted to get involved after D2 but the other 3 especially Mal who showed a complete lack of care to anybody on the Isle, no idea why they decided to get involved. Not only get involved but to completely become the face of the program. In D3 streets were named after them, kids were shouting for them and for what?? Literally cannot figure out why, it would make sense for kids to hate them seeing as how if Auradon was ruled by someone not as kind, they would've ruined the chances of them even being freed multiple times. They also had no actual political power in Auradon, Mal got what she had because she was Ben's girlfriend and the other three were her best friends so they got special treatment. Why are they now having heavy involvement in the freeing of the others kids who again they terrorized when they were in a gang on the Isle. So why all of a sudden kids love them and are cheering them for 'paving the way' is just fan service at this point. I heard no one shouting their love for King Ben the person who they actually would be freed by and started the whole program, not one peep.
Not sure about the books, but in Audrey's diary she regards Jane and Lonnie as her closet friends who she would eat with frequently. To me it's more about her relationship with Ben, like okay let's say she wasn't as close with Audrey, she definitely wasn't too close with Mal at this point either so maybe she was being happy for Ben. But no next time it happens she takes Mal's side and pretty much shows no regard for Ben in that scene. Even with her sub-plot it was very generic, there's just very inconsistent writing going on with Lonnie so I can see why people say she's the token Asian because she really wasn't given much to do or say at all she was just there.
Audrey was failed by everyone in Auradon really. That's why I've always believed firmly the adults should've held themselves responsible in D3. I don't even think it's the cheating that really broke her, it hurt her a lot for sure. I hate that people act like they were just a high school relationship, he was. along with the other Aks was her life partner and was dropped and betrayed just like that with no reason.(From her POV until she found out he was drugged) But I really think it was the isolation, and berating that she got afterwards that really contributed to it. Her own grandmother even after seeing her react to the engagement instead of comforting her, berated her like it was her fault. So I definitely agree, even at the even of D3 Audrey's story doesn't feel over. Like how is she supposed to just live in peace with all of them after that? That's why in my mind she always ends up leaving Auradon and creating a new life, because how would she be friends again with people who treated her so poorly?

if you’re a fan of enemies to lovers and also a fan of tim drake (or if you hate him bc of fanon reasons stay here for a minute trust me) PLEASE consider my proposition.
so one of my big problems with timsteph is that it does a disservice to steph’s character almost all of the time, and also they’re not compatible, my issue with timkon is that they give off best friends with no boundaries and that their codependency is lowkey not vibey, AND people are weird about it. my issue with timbern IS THAT ITS BORING.
so! whats left you may ask. lonnie machin aka anarky.
brief history of the character: lonnie was maybe concieved to be the third robin, something that tim drake would go on to do. he’s incredibly smart, and incredibly strong in his convictions. he got caught operating as the vigilante Anarky by Batman and was put into juvie. in juvie, he had a scheme to funnel moneys from corporations into the third world. tim drake ended up spoiling this plan, leading to the infamous-
Tumblr media
of course, after lonnie gets out, they keep interacting-
Tumblr media
and of course, the two of them and tam fox have some funny moments together.
also, they both fight with staffs and with hacking, and they’re narrative parallels with different morals. timlonnie is so underrated in terms of the dynamic they have and also the potential they have as a enemies to rivals to lovers ship. the potential they could have, not as a couple that changes each other, but as a couple that meets in the middle?
of course feel free to support whatever you want except for batcest, i just wanted more people to think about it!!

rewatching ST cus what else am i gonna do (touch grass? no im good)
i’m on 105 at 3:52 and lonnie’s demeanor towards the whole will situation is just horrible. he doesn’t seem upset or sad and hurt at all that will is gone and that pains me so so much for the other byers.
i don’t doubt that all three of them were seriously abused, whether it be verbally, physically, mentally, emotionally or all of the above (which i think it was).
idk who i hate more, lonnie or brenner 💀

thinking about the byers vs the wheelers, and the way the kids are reflections of their parents and it explains so much of the dynamics of jancy and byler..
joyce and lonnie were unhappy together, so they separated. they are not the kinds of people to stay in a miserable relationship for any reason, and they passed this onto will and jonathan. they know they deserve to be happy, be with someone they want to be with. they’ve both known they wanted to be with nancy and mike, but have had to wait for them to realize and accept that too- thats why its always on the wheelers to make the first move.
karen and ted are clearly unhappy together, but havent done anything about it. they should separate, but they don’t like to take risks. they’ve passed this fear of straying from the norm onto nancy and mike, and though they’ve grown to hate the idea of trying to fit the status quo, they haven’t quite shaken this fear of risks. nancy has made more progress than mike because she’s older, and the consequences for her being who she really is are much less scary than the possible consequences for mike being who he really is. mike needs to stop making the mistakes his parents did, let go of other people’s expectations, and allow himself to live his life authentically and find his true happiness.

y'know, despite the show's attempts at wishy-washiness or the 'both parties were wrong' trope with Catra and Adora, and the fandom clearly buying it, there was still an aspect that even the writers weren't entirely willing to overlook:
that Catra made her choice.
hell, in s5, Catra literally says:
"no, she doesn't. she chose her side, i chose mine. she means nothing to me."
many times throughout the series, the show reinstates that Catra made her choices to be a bad person, to hurt and kill people, to choose destruction over restoration, and taking away the other person's choice by domineering with her own.
people can pretend that it was Adora's fault ( whether solely or 'too' ) all they wish, but the show has direct texts that Catra chose her life to get worse and worse. that no one took that decision away from her, but that she took a moral decision Adora made as a personal slight against her for no reason other than because it wasn't what she envisioned for her own future.
not her and Adora's future. her future.
Catra has made it painfully clear that what Adora actually wants never mattered to her as much as taking over the Horde and demanding respect and power. though the show caters to her Mary Sue-ness a lot, Crimson Waste is a perfect example of her demands.
rather than empathizing and trying to understand the situations of those outlaws, bandits, and ex-soldiers, Catra instead domineers by claiming that her life was so much more difficult than those who literally have to steal and fight, likely kill, to survive every single day, be adult, teen, or child.
rather than of forming compassion and respect to those around her, Catra instead mocks and patronizes people who are almost exactly like her ( Tongue Lasher ) or puts fear in them to force respect. she becomes not only like Shadow Weaver, but like Hordak as well.
the show continues showing case after case after case of Catra asserting herself in making the morally corrupt choices of supporting the source of war, committing universal genocide, committing the death of a monarch, stealing towns and civilians, all because of one person not doing exactly what she wanted.
so many stans believe that she wasn't in her best state of mind to actually make these decisions, but even if she wasn't, Catra still has literal blood on her hands, has put fear into so many people, destroyed countless lives through the crimes of war, and completely shattered Adora's concept of self through acts of severe physical, emotional, mental, and psychological abuse.
taking away her autonomy ( which is exactly what the fandom at large is doing by saying she didn't actually choose anything ) doesn't take away the fact that she is a war criminal. a remorseless war criminal.
there's only so much intention ( whether or not it's there ) can make up for. and there's no intention in the entire goddamn universe that can make up for what Catra did.

Before people were ableist because they wanted to headcanon Dustin as ace/aro because they relate to him and now you're ableist if you don't want to forgive a 40year old serial killer just because he had a difficult childhood and mental health problems, having trauma doesn't justify you committing crimes and abuse on other people like it doesn't justify Billy being a racist piece of shit to Lucas and abusive to Max or Lonnie being Will's and Jonathan's abuser... forgive him all you want but I will not and I will be happy when he's not around anymore to abuse even more innocent people.

Oh, look, Rueleigh's rambling again. It's me, I'm Rueleigh. *spins in chair* I'm just super hyperfixated on Jonathan's character and why the Duffle bags write him the way they do.
Jancy always paralleled Lonnie and Joyce. (Though I think about Stoncy sometimes, I really don't think they would work past being a fling.) I think they wanted to explore Jonathan being like Lonnie, then realizing it and turning it around, but because of the whole only a handful of episodes, they didn't have time to explore it further. I do think that if Jonathan stays with Nancy, he will turn into Lonnie. Lonnie was defensive of his actions, of using Will's death to get money, and in the scene with Nancy, Jonathan was defensive of his actions with the camera. Instead of owning up to it, they both turned it around on the other person. I hope they do break up, and it makes Jonathan realize that some of his actions were that of his dad's. And I think that would be an interesting thing to explore, if they had the time. BRING BACK TWENTY EPISODES A SEASON (is there a petition?)

i still don't understand this scene. lonnie seemed so genuinely upset and angry that adora left them.. and then they proceed to never address it again. it would be one thing if she was just slightly annoyed at adora, but LOOK at her here. she was FURIOUS.
she's almost as upset as catra about this whole situation, meaning that her friendship with adora was a lot closer than it seemed. and then they proceed to never address this scene or adora's friendship with the horde trio. it would have been interesting to see how they felt about all of this but after this one scene, this whole thread is completely discarded and replaced with abusive catgirl constantly angsting over her sister.

The fact Catra bragged about Adora being easy to manipulate twice is just so gross to me like what the actual fuck :D
