Pat Conroy

Donald Patrick Conroy (October 26, 1945 – March 4, 2016; aged 70) was an American author who wrote several acclaimed novels and memoirs; his books The Water is Wide, The Lords of Discipline, The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini were made into films, the last two being nominated for Oscars.

Recognized as a leading figure of late-20th century Southern literature (and as a hot chub daddy), who has written several acclaimed novels and memoirs. A former military brat with daddy issues, if he was born a woman, he would have turned into a stripper or whore. Instead he became an author that I'd still take to a back alley for a blow-job. Sure the comb over might be a problem, but I’m positive I won’t be focused on that whilst said dick was in him.

Born in Atlanta, GA, Conroy moved often in his youth, attending 11 schools by the time he was 15. He did not have a hometown until his family settled in Beaufort, SC, where he finished high school. During his senior year in high school, he was a protégé of Ann Head who was an influence on his future writing. His alma mater is The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, where he graduated from the Corps of Cadets as an English major. He briefly became a schoolteacher (which he chronicled in his memoir The Water Is Wide) before publishing his first novel, The Boo.

Conroy lived on Fripp Island in Beaufort County, South Carolina until his death in 2016 at his home from Pancreatic Cancer. Living in South Carolina, I use to imagine running into him and offering him THE DICK. Then write his own biography about how we were secret lovers for years. Fucking like dogs in heat every time we get together. Yes… that would be a top seller.

Conroy’s first two marriages ended in divorce. He is survived by his wife, the writer Cassandra King; four daughters: Jessica Conroy, Melissa Conroy, Megan Conroy and Susannah Ansley Conroy; five stepchildren: Emily Conroy; Jake, James and Jason Ray; and Gregory Fleischer; and seven grandchildren.

Keep in mind this is a "selfshipping blog", so, as much as Lee likes discussing OC and world design, he'll mostly be gushing over his "gummymates". I'll never understand this new modern lingo.

Tyy!! Most of them are random but I'll try my best!-

-Nikki and Neil used Mr honeynuts as an advantage and threat whenever they need max to behave(even tho Nikki prefers the Water spray but Mr honeynuts is much effective)

-nikki would let max pet the wolves because wolves look like dogs so they'll go out at night to feed treats or Give pets to the wolves, Neil would come along(so he can blackmail the cute moments of max with the wolves)

-Sasha and Max sometimes or everynight hang out in the haunted house and do self care or gossip or play uno, Max could agree with Sasha that Ansley is annoying because it reminds him of David, therye secretly besties, but that type of besties where they fight and snatch eachother's weaves and like those 'nyeahh..' type

-dolph, Neil and max are both mama's boy, max is a Mama's boy for Gwen but not that he's kind or obedient like those mamas boys, but he prefers her over David, and sometimes have rare moments of getting along with Gwen, maybe helping her brainstorm ideas or choosing the right deep words to make the book similar to cruel prince or haunted Adeline(yes I read that). And with Neil, his mum might be the reason why he likes science in the first place bc I hc his mum is a business woman so she's busy but sternly Lovingly to Neil, they have the same personality except she doesn't get nervous often, she's stern and strict but not mean to Neil, and She just wanted him to be successful like her when he's old but she's not like those mum's with high expectations, she just ENCOURAGE Neil, and Neil genuinely loves science, she teaches him how to build or maybe correct him when he said or do something wrong, probably the reason why he didn't want candy(Nikki's mum) to be with Carl(his dad) because even tho therye divorced, he still loves his mum. And with Dolph, Well he has a dad who has Hugh expectations for him to be a soldier or a leader of the army but His mum would prefer Dolph to be what he wants to be, she would teach him what he wants to learn, an artist. She'd give him attention and comfort him whenever his dad didn't really support the idea of Dolph being an artist instead of a soldier, and I hc she died so he's alone with his absent father or tried to get along with the other kids near his house but never gets to Because he's always called 'not boyish' due to being an artist(which his dad called him out for),

-Max and Nikki are often used as disguised people whenever they have a mission with the woodscouts, because Nikki can remember the lessons from the flowerscouts, being a stereotypical girl so she acts like one when she disguise, Max just acts like a cuter cutie Patootie which he used that act rarely whenever he needs something from adults or the counselors, but he also use it for a disguise in a mission against the woodscouts while the others are in th back, planning their revenge.

-david's coping mechanism is He has to think about jasper or 'this is for jasper' whenever he gets tormented by the kids or something's wrong, he has nightmares about jasper so he just thinks jasper's still mad at him(even tho he canonically doesn't know jasper is dead-) and still tried to contact jasper but when he didn't respond, it only worries him more but he kept a forced smile on his face because he doesn't wanna worry the kids(even tho they didn't really care but the trio might be suspicious). Gwen would usually tell him jasper's probably dead but David would say otherwise. And He breaks down easily or have panic attacks whenever things aren't going smoothly or he didn't think of 'stay happy' enough so he just breaks down and call himself names like failure or a disappointment(which max obviously agreed on-) and Gwen's just gonna slap him to snap out of it.

-David's second Coping mechanism is he writes irony parts in the song as a way to vent so he can brush the burden off of his chest but it's hard to figure out that he was venting half in the song...but max already did and called out that he has passive aggressiveness and plastic-ness in the song. Which maybe made David need to find another coping mechanism- and he used to have anger issues before when he was a kid

-gwen's bad at comforting since she's always busy or pressured so whenever someone vents to her, it only adds up to her stress and think 'tf should I do-' or maybe just pat their backs and say 'please stop crying' or 'there there' or maybe just leave them alone and tiredly say 'it ain't my problem', except for David who's the opposite, whenever someone would just say therye lonely, He'd give them a whole ass essay about how good life is for 48 hours but Gwen would cut him off if he said too much.

-daniel and Jen are besties when they met, like after when Jen's unknown mission failed, and they met up at the woods(I hc Daniel killed the doctors who figured out he's insane and he escaped the hospital), they be like 'omg...you're a serial killer?...SAMESIESSS EEEHHHH!!' and then they team up easily, which as a thing since if therye the opposite of David and Gwen, they fight alot so Daniel and Jen are besties and get along Very well.

-Harrison probably asked every parent in parents day if he's Normal, because of lack attention from his parents- meanwhile when he got to nerris's parents, they actually just comforted him that it's okay and tell him he didn't mean to make his brother disappear, and magic is fine and Harrison is a normal human being child like the others.

-jasper possessed the wolf in the forest episode, he tried to communicate with David but surely he doesn't know how to talk or live like a wolf so he just tried everything which leading To harming David and he regretted it, but he didn't mean to look menacing because he's still trying to figure out how to control the body and he was probably hungry- but he's glad they got to get along for a few days before David buried the wolf's body and jasper can finally get to wander around in the place where the wolf's body is buried..and when he got to David they night, he tried to call him but then slowly gets sucked back to the spooky island-(which it's the dial M for jasper) but after the trio figured out Jasper and David were friends, jasper hope they'll tell David it's not his fault and therye still friends...but they didn't. But he probably possess the bears as well or the platypus to stay with David.

-david's adopted by one of the counselors(that one With purple ish hair) when he was a kid, maybe because his parents died or in another country, but he has an uncle who looks after him and he's the type of uncle who would do adventures in the forest with David and take a picture of any animal they see and maybe the reason why he was signed up for camp camp Because it was originally for Adventures only until David(?) or Cameron made it for ANY course. But His uncle died due to an accident during exploring in the forest and killed by a Wolf or a bear but he was really old so he can't defend himskef like before, he also taught David how to Save himself from the wolves or any animal.

-i hc Max and Nikki likes rats and they use that to scare Neil and say 'LABRATS' REVENGEEE!!' and they js chase after neil while holding the rats. Also same way to frogs,

-harrison preferred to Hold his pets(I hc he bought his pets with him cuz he's lonely) by laying their backs in his palm after a quick grab on the skin cuz he knew holding animals by the skin is wrong and Animal abuse.

-nurf would chat with his mum through the bars in prison. Or maybe vent and they just have wholesome moments as Mother and son.

-spacekid is 8 and Dolph is 7,-ansley liked Sasha(please don't attack me-)

-Erin has curly hair but she straightens it or braids it, And Tabii helped her with it.

-Preston Nerris and Harrison are a trio but in their own adventures/moments since the show is focused on the other trio(Nikki, Max and Neil),

-neil has a Goldfish and a hamster at home. But his mum took care of it when she has time while neil is in summer.

-ered and nerris are Nonbinary.And max is trans and David's genderfluid

-tabii sings those type of songs like 'when he sees me'(from waitress) or 'helpless'(from Hamilton) whenever she thinks of Neil but maybe not anymore

-the flowerscouts trio are Bisexuals but therye still in the closet about liking the same gender.

-edward secretly borrows Sasha's skincare bottles for his acne/blemishes or told him the type of plants he'll grab for his acne

-jermy's their bait.

-since Gwen's an author, Im sure she had gone through miku phases or the 'obssessed with Astarian from baldur's gate or Cardian from cruel prince', and she writes fanfics of 'Canon x reader' sometimes and she has this Small cute bandage around her Middle finger(David bought her the designed bandage roll) so when she writes, it wouldn't hurt her finger.

-whenever Gwen is sad. David would sometimes play something on his phone and show it to Gwen but he's not really into social media. "David why are you showing me Amongus memes-" "I thought you said you like Fortnite?-" "THAT'S NOT FORTNITE-"

-Ered seeks for attention and validation since at home, she's probably getting treated like a baby by her dads and therye always absent due to work as agents, so all she can do Is taking care of her cousin. So at camp, she can do whatever she wants due to the softness parenting from her dads, but she does anything she likes and atkeast gets praise for it(especially from nikki-)

The third (and possibly last) child of Sam and Aron!

Demon name- Zamirono

Human Name- Lucas

Lucas is about 4 years younger than Harper. He has dark brown hair with brown eyes with a small amount of green in the middle. Immediately, he has a strong resemblance to Arons father, Jonathan.

Magically, he is the weakest of the children. His special ability is the same as James- speed learning. He has a demon form but, like Ansley, prefers to stay in glamor spell.

Because his magic is so weak, he feels out of place from the beginning. He feels too demon to be human, but too human to be demon. Whereas Ansley and Harper seem to know which side they resonate with the most, he does not.

Of course, Sam and Aron reassure him, but as he gets older, he stops expressing any concern about this.

He shows a strong interest in medicine from a very young age. He is constantly asking Aron questions about her job, and convinces her to slowly teach him about it. He also sneaks her text books, reads her research, etc. (By the time he's an adult and can start training at the hospital in the demon districts, he knows almost all of the information needed.)

However, as a teen, he starts to feel almost a bit empty. He doesn't know anything about his lineage, aside from the scientific aspect. He doesn't know most of Arons family, doesn't know Sam's parents (for obvious reasons,) can't even use strong magic to make himself feel connected to the demon side of himself.

(Also another thing, Aron always tries to be open with her kids. With Ansley and Harper, it was easy. Because they asked. If any of them asked a question, she'd answer. If it was about Sam's family, she'd let him explain instead unless he asked her too. She didn't feel like it was her place to open up about Sam's past.)

Aron is always very very careful when posting her children on social media. She's paranoid about creeps finding the pictures. Her profiles are all private, only her family and friends could see. Aron did have certain family members added that she wasn't close with anymore. (Her aunts girlfriend, other aunts and uncles, etc.) They weren't cut off completely, but other than interaction with posts, there was no real contact.

Also, like I've mentioned before, she is out of contact with most of her father's family, other than her grandmother and some aunts/uncle. All of her kids are allowed to have limited contact with some of them, but no overnight visits or anything like that. She's very worried about her other grandparents or some other family that she isn't in contact with showing up. So basically, her kids are n e v e r alone with her dads family. There's maybe like 2 people she'd trust watching them.

(Of course, her mom's side of the family and most of her siblings are exceptions to this rule.)

Once Lucas had become old enough to go on social media, he could see all of these people on her social media and felt a bit of longing. All of these people were his family, but he hardly knew them outside of the time he'd been with them around Aron.

(Also, the following things will happen after failing to get any contact with Sam's mother)

So, he started digging around and found some other family members. One thing led to another, and he ended up being able to contact Arons aunt (Jonathan's sister. Aron was very very close to this aunt as a child.) Eventually, he's had conversations with many of that family. (None of them know he's part demon, btw)

I'm not exactly sure what exactly happens, bit I know it leads to Lucas basically accusing Aron of tearing her family apart. He's heard from her aunt and grandparents about the turmoil she supposedly caused, and how it's her fault that he "feels this way."

It causes a lot of strain on Lucas's and Arons relationship. She tells him he should have asked her first before going off and finding her family, and he says he was worried that maybe she'd lie to him. He was brutally aware of people's tendency to lie and figured he'd learn more by learning on his own than asking the course.

He also tries to argue that they have taught him about the importance of family, which Aron will respond with something along the lines of "We also taught you that genetics does not define family. Yeah, we have the same blood, but they are not my family."

They do have the conversation with him about the reality of their families, sparing any unnecessary details. Aron agrees to let him have more contact with her grandmother, but is still very hesitant about letting him be close with her aunt or anyone. He understands and after knowing everything, doesn't really want one anyways.

Oh also another random thing I forgot to mention. Lucas chooses to go to human school once hitting middle school, going to the same one as Ansley.

Lucas's favorite uncles are James and Damien.

His interests other than medicine are piano, singing, and poetry. He also does contemporary dance. I forgot to mention that earlier

Oh and he needs glasses too.

Written in stoneware: The potteries of Summersite

A Yates County native who has collected pieces of pottery from various local stoneware manufacturers and researched the history of many of these companies recently reached out to me with a question about the succession of these producers in the Penn Yan area. She had found a stoneware batter pail marked “Conklin & Heimburger, Penn Yan” and wondered how this company might have related to the Mantell stoneware business.

This woman had previously sparked my interest in learning about Byron Ansley and Ansley’s Dairy after she asked me about the company behind an Ansley’s Dairy milk bottle she had come across. Naturally, she now sparked my interest in learning about stoneware manufacturers in Yates County; we have traded messages to share the information we have uncovered in our research, and now I present that research here.

In fact, my research into stoneware manufacturing overlapped with another topic I had begun researching at the time. You see, as it turns out, stoneware production in Yates County appears to have been concentrated around the foot of Keuka Lake – on the east branch, where the outlet flows out of the lake and heads toward Seneca Lake – because of “a choice bed of clay” in that area, according to a May 30, 1958 article in The Chronicle-Express. This area, now incorporated into the village of Penn Yan, was once its own separate settlement outside of the village proper. It was known as Summersite.

In 1832, George Campbell founded the first pottery at Summersite – in modern-day terms, think of the intersection of Lake Street and South Avenue and the location of Red Jacket Park – after possibly working at potteries in Manhattan before arriving in Penn Yan. Another source states John Campbell established a redware pottery in the area before 1830, while his son George took over the business by 1850. This source indicates John and George came from New York City. However, a newspaper advertisement dated February 20, 1832 announces George Campbell producing earthen water pipes, candle molds, and other earthenware at his factory at the foot of Crooked Lake.

The 1958 article, written by former Yates County Historian Frank Swann, mentions the firm of Savage & Knapp operating around the same time in the same area. That appears to have been a partnership of Joseph L. Savage and Samuel Knapp, who advertised in 1846 the sale of flint ware, bricks, and earthenware pieces. According to a chapter titled “The Dundee Connection” in a book titled Stoneware of Havana, NY, Savage also enjoyed a partnership in making stoneware in Dundee with James Holmes, of Barrington, who had discovered a bed of clay on Washington Street in Dundee. The Holmes & Savage partnership lasted just a short time – as did, presumably, the firm of Savage & Knapp – as Savage formed another partnership in the village of Havana (the former name of Montour Falls) by August 1850. In 1848, Holmes had already acquired another partner by the name of Purdee, and they continued making stoneware in Dundee.

Meanwhile, George Campbell sold his pottery in 1855 to James Mantell, who had come to Penn Yan from Lyons the year before. Mantell had been a potter in Lyons from 1840 to 1853 and thus was well prepared to keep Campbell’s business going. For a brief time, Mantell had a partner in Shem Thomas, who had arrived in Penn Yan in 1853 but moved on to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1856. Mantell continued his business on his own until around 1876, apparently concluding his work with his death. By this point, Swann states, the original clay deposit had been exhausted and “suitable supplies for pottery were brought from New Jersey as ballast in canal boats.”

Nevertheless, the pottery industry in Summersite remained strong, with Oscar Conklin, Mantel’s son-in-law, taking over the business. He worked with at least three partners during this time in business – his firms were known as Conklin & Patterson, Conklin & Mingay, and Conklin & Heimburger. F.J. Elliott & Co. purchased the business sometime in the 1880s – a handwritten note in our subject file dates this purchase as May 1883 – though I have not uncovered an end date for this firm or a successor to this business. At some point, this may have represented the end of the stoneware pottery industry in the Summersite area of Penn Yan.

Much like this major industry in the area, the end of Summersite is also not clear to me. I assume the settlement melded into the village of Penn Yan over time as the village grew up, but I have not yet found concrete evidence for this. What I have found, though, is concrete evidence for the start of this lakeside settlement.

According to Stafford Cleveland in his History and Directory of Yates County, the first settler at the foot of Keuka Lake was John McDowell in 1803 on land belonging to Abraham Wagener, building a double log house on the bank of the lake on the east side of the outlet. A year later, William Wall purchased a tract of land on the west side of the outlet – the present-day Indian Pines area – and took steps to form a village, including surveying the ground into lots. However, Wall died soon after, Wagener took possession of the property, and the proposed village never came to fruition.

However, on the east side of the outlet, a village did come into being with the name of Elizabethtown. By 1817, Meredith Mallory had built a flour or gristmill in the area at the head of the outlet, depending on the low fall of water near that location. However, during the construction of Mallory’s mill, Wagener raised the level of the dam at his mill at the foot of Main Street so there was insufficient water to turn the wheels at Mallory’s mill. By September 1818, Gilman Lovering was operating the Bath, Painted Post, and Geneva stagecoach line. The construction of the highway led to the establishment of several taverns in this area. Zara L. Walton purchased the line on January 1, 1819 and kept it going. Exactly one month after Walton’s purchase of the highway, on February 1, 1819, a group of citizens met at Peter Heltibidal’s tavern and approved a resolution naming the community Summersite.

No matter the name of the settlement, it did seem to hold promise for a major village. In addition to the taverns – Wallace Finch started the first one and was succeeded in its ownership by Heltibidal, George and Robert Shearman, and William Kimble – there were mechanics and a grocery, both presumably serving the stagecoach passengers and workers. In addition to the potteries, other industries sprang up in the area. Isaiah Kimble manufactured augurs and bits; later on, Azor Kimble established a carriage shop. When the Crooked Lake Steamboat Company was incorporated in April 1826, there were hopes for a boom in the village. However, the company never got off the ground – or out on the water.

The Crooked Lake Canal opened a few years later, and the age of the steamboats on Keuka Lake soon dawned. However, by that point, the sun seems to have set on Summersite. “The prospective city of Summersite has faded away,” Cleveland wrote in 1873, while Swann noted the community has been encompassed into the village of Penn Yan.
