Journaling time! Happy new year edition!

It's 2025 already! Happy new year! Kotoyoro!

Just a bit of blogging this time, not sure who it will interest but I am old and I miss journaling lol. Nintama related stuff of course, and things I'm excited to share in the future. Under the cut because there are a lot of pictures.

Between trips here and there, new year's celebrations, and a lot of napping under the kotatsu I haven't done a lot of translating...and I found I kind of miss it, it looks like I've gotten addicted to it haha.

...But even when I'm touching grass, cartoon ninja addiction never stops.

It's kinda hard to stop thinking about them when promo for the movie is everywhere!

We (the innocent friends I dragged there and I...) tried three different drinks at the Nintama collaboration menu at Dipper Dan ; the 6th years' matcha latte with boba, the 4th years' strawberry milk, and the 1st years' blue soda float. They were all decorated with cute toppings notably the very nintama like 3 colored dangos....All very cute and very sweet!

I got nice goodies I won't all go over, but most importantly I got this!

The soundtrack for the movie, which I already ripped of course lol and will probably share some tracks here! (idk if we'll dump it on Tasogaredokijou later?) It features familiar and new tunes, and some pretty heartbreaking humming... if you know, you know, ahem.

Speaking of, Tasogaredokijou has been pretty quiet this end of the year, everyone has been busy of course, but I hope to be able to get back into sharing stuff here soon. There are so many things I'm excited to work on, the episodes Amako Soubee wrote that aired recently obviously (I translated them all already! just need to be beta'd and subbed!!! Excited to share), content from the limited movie pamphlet, most notably the short story, annnnnnnnd, some more goodies I recently got my hands on...!!

I'm so excited to have my own version of the first movie, I already translated the script so it will probably be the first thing I work on when I'm back home. Comparing the file available on streaming services VS the raw available online is crazy...I'll post comparison screenshots in a bit.

I finished the 7th chapter of "15 Minutes"

annnnnnnnd I have over 1K words done on chapter 8. Because I'm not going to leave ch7's cliffhanger just, you know, hanging there. That would be rude and uncivilized.

You know, like getting shot off a roof and then continuing to be Needled after you're clearly dead, GEEZ. Dang Jackals. You'd think they had a grudge against me or something.

Nope, don't know why. Can't think of a single reason why I'd be on their bad side. *revs forklift some more* 😇😉

Anyway, still have a lot of editing to do before it's ready to post but I'm hoping it'll be before s2 starts, just 'cause.

ALRIGHTY I'm not going into the entirety of the whole backstory of Kirix and Barlow's species but we kinda need to know in order to know why some stuff happens later on here

Basically, this all takes place in a REALLY BIG valley that no one can enter or leave due to the enormous frickin mountains surrounding it first of all (also it's a medieval fantasy)

200 years before this, something that was seen as a demon by 99.9% of the entire population of the valley blessed a villiage that lived on a mountain with uhhhh

Well she turned em all into dragon-peopls

And then cast a spell preventing humans from ever going in the mountain ever again

And then dipped.

Because of this sequence of events, everyone else in the four kingdoms of the valley assumed that the entire newborn species was just. Completely and entirely demonspawn, as the creations of the biggest demon anyone had ever seen ever in the valley (A dragon. She was a dragon. Who did nothing except be super scary and crush four houses, all by accident.)

FAST FORWARD 200 YEARS BECAUSE I HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT KIRIX AND BARLOW ENOUGH YET

Kirix and Barlow are two of the descendants of the original dragon-people who were transformed, and they're at the age where they must pick a Ye Olde Careere Pathe™

They are LITERALLY THE BESTEST FRENS EVER. AND THEY'RE IN LOVE BUT AT THIS POINT NEITHER HAD CONFESSED YET.

One day they were out hunting to... Practice hunting, and they accidentally crossed the barrier and got captured by humans, which they didn't expect! It had never happened before, after all.

The thing about these people is that they were trying to start a war. I actually explained this yesterday on discord! Lemme go copy and paste some stuff.

A bunch of humans (AKA the Dorinian army (Dorian is one of the human kingdoms in the world)) were tipped over the edge of years of mounting tensions (it's a long story), which

lead them to REALLY want to just. **Slaughter** the entirety of the Axyerin (placeholder new name for the species). It's a really long series of events that hasn't really been developed that much, but the tipping point was when 30 children went missing on the mountain adjacent to the one the Axyerin live on annnnnnnnd Whuh oh several of them were really fuckin important oh noes

Well, the problem here in the Dorinian's eyes is that there was no real way to *really* make the big scary monsters who could fly and breathe fire maybe ate their children fear *them*.

Unfortunately for the Axyerin, Magic.

Magic in the valley is fuckin SCARY 66% OF THE TIME

If you are a human child in this place, you can be born with the ability to learn one of three forms of magic: Illusion-weaving, the ability to take control of some area of someone or something's body (like their hand for example), and Potion/general magical mixture-making.

Two of these things are terrifying in practice if done in certain ways.

Kirix and Barlow were to be the subjects of this.

They were both horribly tortured for months about something neither of them knew- how to break the mountain's barriers. Or at least bypass them.

Of course that didn't exist.

It had never existed.

Of course, they both lied a few times about where humans could break in, but that always resulted in just... An increase.

Until one day, Barlow was SUPER EXTREMELY DESPERATE and told the torturer of the day a not-so-random location- a place infested with mountain sprites that were protecting something no one had ever gotten to because they could cast SUPER EFFECTIVE FEAR SPELLS TO DRIVE PEOPLE AWAY. Barlow didn't have all that background info tho, all they knew was that it was the designated haunted area on the mountain that was just outside on the barrier.

A week later when people returned from checking if Barlow's claims were true, they realized very little was going to "work".

So what did they do?

They brutally murdered Kirix while Barlow was forced to watch.

And that is why the line, "Barlow had sent the humans to the haunted place.

The price was... Kirix."

Hits.

So.

Fucking.

Hard.

Hmmm. Well, I lead a rather boring life with shit self esteem, so I really don’t look ahead much these days because it keeps me from being too disappointed. Hm. But I’m gonna try to make this a positivity post, because you were so kind to me and I think it’s good to try to think positively sometimes. 

Hmm. Five things I’m (eventually) looking forward to:

Getting my purple sofa from IKEA. I’ve wanted this stupid sofa for a year now and I just... haven’t gotten around to buying it yet. This would be the opportune time to get it though... I’m home so I wouldn’t have to take time off for delivery... I just don’t have anyone to help me build it. That and I’m a tightwad, but I know I want this sofa, and I usually wait a bit to spend that kind of money on stuff to make sure I want it before I buy it. I want it. A lot.

Getting my own place that’s not a shit apartment with annoying neighbours. I’ve been saving up for 10 years for a condo of my own; I can use my RSPs as a down payment (in Canada, you can open up RSPs and take it out early if it’s for first-time home ownership OR second education). I have enough for a down payment, but again, it comes down to... I’m a tight wad, I HATE spending that kind of money. But I know I’d be happier in a place that I’m not renting from shitty landlords.

My eventual Christmas Trip to Disney. For my fortieth year, I wanted to make a big Christmas trip to DisneyWorld; I even opened up a savings account so I would have enough to go in a year and a half. I’ve always wanted to go at Christmas, and it’s been a long time since I last went. I even convinced my sister to come with me. Then COVID happened. That plan has been put on the back-burner for an indeterminable time; at the rate the US can’t fucking get their shit together, it’s looking like at least 4 years until I can. I am NOT crossing the border to go to COVIDWorld, thanks. So for now, it’s a dream trip, that maybe I’ll do for my 50th instead, 45th if they clean up their act.

Seeing my friends again, whether they’re my real life ones or my 221B crew, I really miss everyone terribly. Also in this, seeing my sister again. I haven’t seen her in 2 years; this summer was supposed to be our big Road Trip Summer, annnnnnnnd COVID. Jess and I are super close, and I try to see her at least once a year; last year I couldn’t because I worked all summer, and this year it was COVID, so yeah. Sad. I miss everyone. I’ve seen my K-Town friends on my 3 weeks off, so that was nice. Just a pain that all my close friends live far away.

Publishing ONE of the 6 fanfics I’ve been drafting for years. I constantly, when I can’t blog, or watch TV or draw, I just write little pockets of fanfics that one day will be finished, if I can stop starting new ones. 2 Sherlock, a TMNT one, and continuing with my Sonic series I never finished in my youth. THEN I got into Red Dwarf again and I plotted out 2 more stories; one of them is near done. I just can’t get the filler bits in any of them. I write all the good stuff LOL. Ugh. I love writing, I’m just... not popular enough for people to care so I guess the motivation has never gripped me. It’s just a hobby / stress relief for me, and not a serious thing, so I just do it when I feel like it. I draw most of my free time.

Alrighty! I'm going all out on this one soo be prepared for a long haul since my curiosity MUST be quenched: 1, 3, 4-6, 11, aaand 13-16 for the writing ask thing, please

OOOH! Awesome!!! Okay! [rolls up sleeves!] Here we go!

1.     What's something you've written that you know is OOC and you just don't care? Omg…I thought my dark secret would never be heard. Me and Incubirb wrote a fanfic together in high school called Dealing with Chibis. It’s a YGO fanfic. We had fun and it’s still posted on FF.net but the yamis are OOC. VERY OOC. Do we care? Nah, it was something we wrote when we were younger and it’s a reminder of the good ol’ days and annnnnnnnd how we improved n,n Yes it’s cringe but it’s OUR  cringe damn it!

 2.    Something you hate to see in smut. No build up! Okay, I’m all for PWP because sometimes you just want to read smut without having to read a story behind it but please at least give the audience some foreplay. Also and I used to do this, don’t say womanhood an manhood, just say cock, clit, vagina, and things like that. Because well…sex is an experience, or I’ve been told, but it’s also dirty and passionate so using the terms can make it a little better or I can just be a huge perv. I’m probably the latter. Finally, weird ass things that would be near impossible during sex. Shampoo is NOT lube, ripping out a woman’s tampon and flinging it behind you is not sexy, sex in the shower/ on the beach/ is not romantic and I’m assuming harder than it looks.  Or something that is outright gross that is supposed to be romantic >< I’ve read of questionable shit and I just had to pretend I never read it. Just…but logical about it, please!

 3.    Something you love to see in smut. I personally like non con…hear me out. It’s a fantasy, it’s a good plot device, and it’s just so dark. I also like a weird powerplay and pet play because…well no one needs to know that ^^: (stay tuned One Piece fans). I also like good chemistry with the characters, like the more experience boy or girl with another girl and descriptions. Like don’t just say “and they totally did it!” yeah no, describe the act and the senses.

 4.    Something you hate to see in dialogue. Using net speak in writing. Not making a conversation believable and writing an “accent” in someone’s speech. Once again, I was guilty of this years ago, minus the net speak. The writing accent thing can be good in some cases but horrible overall. Like in HP, JK Rowling writing the way Hagrid talked. I’ll admit, it did kind of get you into the mood that Hagrid had an accent but when she did it with the French accent and Bulgarian one, it just became really…distracting. Have your readers imagine it instead of having to read/listen to an accent. Just say that they had a strong accent or if they do speak in broken English in order to emphasize a plot, by all means! Once again one of my fave authors did this well. In one of her stories, the characters were aliens who spoke Russian, this woman had RUSSIAN in the book so the reader was just as clueless as the characters in the story. Same story and one of the characters had a thick Polish accent made it difficult for him to make friends, so she emphasized it when him and is stepbrother switched bodies and he realized that one of the things his new brother had to face.

 5.    What "don't ever do this" writing rule are you guilty of constantly breaking? I know I break a lot! Hell, there’s run on sentences and things like that everywhere XD But apparently the ,” that a dear sweet nitpicker brought to my attention. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not like “OMG HOW DARE SHE!” it’s more of, she was just doing it to be an ass? Like really trying to find something wrong with a story? Anyway, that. I don’t know why I do it. I think it’s a habit that I have to break but I didn’t know it was a habit? Like some writing rules says its okay. Some say it’s bad, some people don’t even notice it. But that’s just how I’ve always write. No one else seems to care so I just kept doing it.

 6.    What do you need to work on most? Rereading my work! I don’t get offended when my readers point things out! Like I welcome it because sometimes I’m concentrating on writing that I don’t see the mistakes or rapid typing that I forget to go back. Like I write in layers. I write the beginning, scenes in the middle, the end, refill things, connect things, and polish things before posting but even I overlook things. I don’t have a proofreader so I’m grateful for the extra pairs of eyes XD Seriously I don’t get offended in the least!  

 7.    What aspect of writing have you had the most growth in? Character development! Seriously! It takes time and a lot of work to write a good character! My first real fanfic characters were OCs and one dimensional at most. Then again it was middle school and high school and emotions were high, things weren’t the best but still, they were my characters. They stuck with me in college and it gave me more than enough time to revamp them into proper characters. Also during that time I was working on a coping mechanism writing/story and learned how to really flesh out a character and giving them a back story on how they came to be instead of “this character was just born AWESOME!”

 8.    We all project onto our characters. Where has your personality or life choices leaked onto the page the most? Well, with me and not so much in my One Piece fanfics but Hetalia, my issues with my family, especially my mother/ grandmother. Because of my family situation, I never really had a safe place to express myself freely and when I did it was always taken away. I was around a lot of adults who were affected by my grandmother’s own issues which resulted in immature adults with issues of their own where I had to always be the “adult” or the “bigger person” one to someone who was twice as old as I was when I was a preteen/teenager and they were full grown ass adults. Which sucked since being a mature kid really gives more problems and doing things just to please a family who wouldn’t care less but I did have a Dad who really took the time to really understand me which was nice. So a lot of my Reader-chans have either unavailable parents, awesome parents, or raised by people who aren’t parents but the best parents they could ever have because in my opinion, sometimes the best people who actually care isn’t your family and if these people accept you, treat you with respect and genuinely care about your well being then they are your family.  

9.    What's the most ridiculous thing you've done to put off actually writing? Hmmmm Well I’ve always found time to write but usually now with the pandemic, it’s mainly “I have to clean!” which is partly true but malaise DX Well For one fandom at least. Not to mention I’m adding in a lot of filler so I can send a ton of sad fanfics without feel guilty XD
